what would be the best kernal for me to have ?

my battery drains like a bugatti veyron doing 252mph constantly
so what would you advise . is the kernal i have now the best or should i change .. i dont want to reall lose much performance on what i have now but would like the battery to maybe improve if possible ...
from full charge taking plug out searching market for 2 mins the battery drains 5-8% in matter of mins
and i have only had the phone a week

With that kind of drains the problems the kernel won't change that much. There is probably a app that causes the battery drain so looking in to that will have more effect. Also the brightness/screen on is the biggest drain and kernel won't do much about that.
You said that you have the phone a week, the battery needs some time to reach it's full potential and you probably use the phone a lot because it's new. So use the phone normally for another week, after that week let the phone drain until it shuts itself off, leaf it off and charge it till it's full. (there is a different calibration method but this always worked for me)

First of all, I would assume that you don't use the phone non-stop (it would be justified to lose power in a few hours if you're on it non-stop).
I recently had issues with power consumption as well. What I did was:
1) check the built in battery monitor: menu-settings-about phone-battery-battery use. The bad thing about this monitor is that it does not differentiate well the apps consuming power, but you can still see if there's something wrong, as the most consumption should come normally from the screen and voice calls. For me, the most consumption was made by com.htc.bg, which, if I let the monitor on for a few seconds, would transform in the calendar app. Weird stuff. I unchecked the calednar auto sync from menu-settings-accounts and sync. It may have slowed the power loss down, but not significantly. I noticed a significant loss of battery by WiFi. I realized, I needed more information so:
2) I installed an app called 'Power Tutor'. What it does is, it calculates which apps consumes power, and it shows you in percentages. After install, you need to start the 'power profiler'. It will appear in your notification bar. If you let it run, after a few hours, you can see in "view application power usage" who is using power. That's how I discovered that my winamp app was really off the charts using power like crazy. So I went in the winamp settings, and I unchecked some options that could have determined this power consumption, like wireless sync, automatic mount as USB drive, etc. There was actually an option that was overriding the wifi power management, stating that the wifi does not stop after 180 seconds of standby. Basically, if you have wifi on, and you stop using the phone for 3 minutes, the phone automatically turns off the wifi. This was not happening any more, due to winamp. So I unchecked all those options, and voila. It worked, I have now normal battery life.

be aware of a couple of things
1. battery drain for the 1st few weeks are high because of a couple of factors, the battery "learns" and gets conditioned over a period of time (doesnt use the old 16hr charge process). its a new device for you so its a novelty, you probably mess about with it with the screen on more than you think.
2. there is a configuration within HTC's builds and in the memory chip of the battery to stop over charging. the device will charge to 100 and then slowly deplete to 90% while still saying full on the phone. as soon as you disconnect it recalibrates to the correct value which is anywhere between 90% and 100% depending at which part of the cycle you catch it

Some other tips to increase battery life, from a friend of mine in the Romanian forum:
1) use the app watchdog, it will warn you when an app is using too much of the processor and will ask you if you want to close it.
2) juice defender with the paid add-on 'ultimate juice' - with the correct settings... it's amazing.
3) Dial *#*#4636#*#* - phone information-network type: select gsm auto prl. The phone will stay on 3G when it has good signal, and switch to 2G when it doesnt, saving battery
4) Change the wallpaper to a static one, not a live one.
5) Go to menu-settings-accounts and sync and increase sync intervals for weather, news, or even set them to sync manually when you choose.

ok my screen is on 13% brightness
i hardly ever use my phone , the only real use was to root , s-off, put ROM ETC ON
I reply to about 50 texts ish per day and search the market for literally 1-2 mins to see what new apps are in
i dont play games or anything
the thing the battery uses most is the screen and as i say i have it on monochrome theme with 13% brightness, there is nothing synced , i check automatically for email etc .. actually beautiful widgets is set to auto update every 4 hours
i never use wifi as i have a 3gb download/data usage, i dont use gps ...well i do but i have had no need to .. thats about all i can tell ya
rastaman the pt2 is a bit weird it should stay at 100 if just taken out of charge

S4 Mini Battery life

Hi all fellow forum members! It was about time to retire my old Galaxy S2, and i decided to buy a S4 Mini. About the same size, better specs and everything. But i dont like the battery life at all. I dont think its normal for my battery to discharge 20% over 8 hours at night. Does anyone have the same problem? I have been trying different approaches. I installed Snapdragon BatteryGuru, put the phone on power saving mode all the time, even switched 3G off, although without 3G there seems to be an improvement, but I'll let you know how's that going. So my concern is that i might have a faulty device.. or software.. idk.. when i had crazy discharge syndrome on my S2 i just changed the kernel and/or the ROM. Any advice or opinions on the battery life of the S4 mini will be welcomed and appreciated!

I don't have too many battery problems, I guess. My phone has been off the charger for around 10 hours - and the battery has dropped to 85% - which I think it OK. I've sent some text messages, checked e-mails, used WhatsApp and had a few phone calls, not exceeding 10 minutes in total. Oh, and the GPS is on 24/7 for now, but I've just got the phone rooted, so this will not be the case any longer. The phone says it still have some 7½ hours left - which wouldn't be enough for an "all nighter" tonight.
I have disables many of the push notifications, which might be the reason why I think it's a fair battery life so far. I used to have the SGS2 as well, which lasted around the same as this phone I reckon. The biggest hog is the Google Services/Framework that takaroundes up 25% of the battery usage at the moment.
I have though of having getting an extra battery for this phone, as it's always nice to have one charged.

My I9195 uses about 3% during night (7 hours, 3G data and wifi off). Try to use an app to see wakelocks used on your device, e.g. Wakelock Detector or Better Battery Stats - they might provide you with some hints to apps that keep your mini from deep sleep, which can cause the battery drain.

If it's an I9195, can you try to disable NFC and see if it improves?

My biggest drain is the screen. The device lasts about as long as my friend's S2 (we were playing a coop game together) and then surfed the net over 3G for a while.
We both scrambled to look for a nearby charging socket at almost the same time

Hi all! I have found the source of my battery drain. It's Google location services. Turns out it's a common problem on android 4.2.2. I tutned off Google location an I my phone drained 2% over 8 hours. Sync, wifi and 3g were also turned on. There is a fix over at the nexus 4 forums, but it requires root and I don't know if it will work on our galaxies. If you have root, google nip wakelock fix, try it and report back.

I had battery problems on my s4. Turns out it was the SD card. Removed it and battery improved. In the end I had to change it for a new one.

Which one did you use? Sandisk 32GB?
I got an S4 mini for my gf with that card and it has terrible battery life.
The battery drained from 100% at 7 in the morning to 15% at 5 in the afternoon...
That's surely not normal...
Edit:
I noticed that the "media" service took up almost as much cpu time and power as (active for 1,5 hours) as the mobile connection.
I suspect, that some corrupt media files or whatever kept the service alive, which tried to scan the DCIM folder over and over again.
I checked the SD Card which was full of almost 5GB of old pictures pictures which for some reason couldn't be deleted because of "unknown errors".
So I took the SD Card out and put it in a card reader, to back up the files. Then I deleted the files, put the card back and formated the card.
Then I copied only some of the new pictures back into the DCIM folder... I'll see tomorrow if that helped.

And FYI - the following is the message I wrote to Samsung and am waiting for their test to validate the result of my S4 Mini. Based on what Samsung told me, the Safe Mode calls out same phone settings as Factory Default, but it seems the following test cases did reveal different resutls from what Samsung told me...

Hi pudin! You can turn off Google location services from maps app. Go to settings->google location settings and uncheck allow Google to use your location. And to further improve that you can turn gps off, and turn it on when you need to. Yesterday I decided to root my phone because greenify was asking for root permission and everybody was putting the good word for that app. Turns out it's a total croc... you can hibernate downloaded apps, but you can't do the same with pre installed. 0 use. Further more I started to receive an annoying notification that my phone's security has been compromised and it needs to reboot. Got angry, downloaded an official firmware from sammobile, preinstalled, turned google location services off and got this pretty decent battery life. Screenies are below, feel free to post your thoughts. Please note that I keep BaterryGuru and PowerSave on at all time.

Thanks for prompt feedback iconata! Now I can confirm the Google location services have been disabled on my S4 Mini. Also, I don't enable GPS unless I need it so those battery consumption numbers were tested without GPS running in the background. I got the call from Ssmaung tonight telling me my phone consumes more power than what they tested, so I'll return it to Samsung for further diagnostic tomorrow. Will keep you posted if any update.
BTW, I'm not that kind of guy brave enough to root my phone like you guys...

Checked the image you posted and it looks like you were still doing something such as making calls and playing game over night. Your 3% power consumption per hour is similar to mine, but in my case Cell Standby and Device Idle are the 2 major items consuming the power the most over night, when the phone really enters the standby mode. Try to have your phone enter the standby mode without doing anything over night and check if the result is still the same.

strange thing... my battery was showing 16% left.. and went dead..

that screen on over night wasn't me, today ill remove apps and try to get a clean start not from a day use

New FW update that improves battery drain
In coincidence I got notified of a FW update just yesterday night, one day before I sent my phone into Service, and it did improve battery drain significantly, from 3% to just 1% per hour over night after I checked the phone this morning. You guys may want to check the update as well, and I'll test my phone again tonight.

Which firmware?
I flashed the pre-rooted MG4 (over the stock MG4) yesterday, wiped the phone and froze all the samsung bloatware stuff.
That thing is still draining about 4-6% per hour while just lying around untouched. The phone is in power saving mode.

Unfortunately the higher than average battery drain in stand-by mode prevented the Samsung Galaxy S4 mini from getting an impressive overall endurance rating. Even so it did more than well and if Samsung improves the stand-by time with future firmware updates, it might be one of the longest-lasting smartphones on the market.

[Q] Why Battery Draining Fast?

I have owned this phone for about 3 days, but I have some battery issues.
I attached 3 pictures, and on the first picture, you can see there appears to be no wakelocks, but on the 2nd picture, the Android OS used the vast majority of my battery life, and the 3rd picture, Android System has a lot of "Wake Up Device" (i don't know what the number means is it minutes?)..
I have uninstalled/disabled most of the apps I don't need, and have the brightness set to low, and on airplane mode with all sync off, and zenmotion turned off, and this still happens. I lost about 11% battery overnight with this problem. It seems like when I am using the device, the battery drops a percent every minute even when I am just scrolling through the Settings.
I only used about 1 hour screentime on this phone and the rest on idle.
I already installed both system updates.
Does anyone know why this happens? I know there is a memory leak problem, but I saw on another thread other people don't have that bad of a drain anymore...

Mine seemed fine for a week and then I got this today. Pretty much done with it. Can't even get it to factory reset.

I have zenfone 2 and at the 1st week the battery drained very fast but then after I Updated all the aps of Zen Ui i noticed improvements to my battety life. go to settings and go to zen ui instnt update and update all the apps. now im using my zenfone 2 whole day surfing from 9am to 7pm and i still have 30% battery hope it works for you too. try it

Battery drain issue still not fixed with updates???

Disable PC Link and Party Link default apps, worked for me. They're default apps using cpu all the time like they're SO Android... Disable all default apps that you don't use too

I've got here two brand new models, which differ only for touch and battery version (Z2C3 01040005 1525 and ... 1526)
The 1526 doesn't show any drain. The 1525 does, as of its very first boot. I tried keeping same settings of course.
I'd like to point out that when connected and charging it shows big steps like going from 63 to 72% and it also reaches 100% in less than 60 mins.
When disconnected the discharge path exhibits about 1:15min of operation.
May I suspect the battery is defective?
PS: after a factory reset from recovery seems have fixed the problem for now at least...

I made an account with this website and took the time to write this, so I can let users who own this phone know one of the
biggest battery drain features I've found......DISABLE HOMESCREEN APP MOVEMENT SENSOR, in app icon settings.
When you tilt your phone app icon adjust to the tilt, yes looks cool until you realize how much battery you could save by leaving then static and not constantly running a fDucking tilt sensor.

Battery Drain Advice

Disclaimer: I'm new to the forum so apologies if this is in the wrong discussion area etc!
I got my Galaxy S9 on Friday 9th, prior to that I had an LG G5 which is now gone. In the last few months of using my LG G5 the battery life was questionable - the phone would get hot (sometimes without even using it a lot) and the battery would drain by 30% an hour. I noticed, but didn't test fully, that Google Play Music seemed to really cane the battery and phone - i.e. was getting hot and draining quickly. As an example, I'd leave home at 7am taking it off charge at the last minute (100%) and get to my office at 9am and it'll be at 50% and very warm. Prior to that (can't exactly pinpoint when the drain started to really kick in) it would only drop to 85% - much more acceptable.
The G5 has a replaceable battery - 2800 if I recall . So I threw down £50 on an official LG site for a new slab of Lithium - slight improvement, but still terrible and warm. 55% instead of 50%.
"Right - time for a new phone" as I assumed that 2 years of app updates meant the CPU was lagging. Bagged a Galaxy S9 - today was my first commute into the office. Started on 100%, arrived at 55% with a 3000 battery! And it got super warm like the G5.
Most of that time I used Google Play Music, which according to AccuBattery the discharge speed was "33% per hour". Second was Google Chrome at 30% per hour (though I didn't use it much at all on the journey).
My question is - what logs can I check, or apps I can use, or something to find out what's going on? I need to test a few things of course to pinpoint the issue. If it helps - I restored from my G5 when I setup my S9.

seems like you might have have some options enabled in Google Play Music / chrome - that is keeping the phone awake
generally when you switch phones they apps and their settings get transferred automatically now - worth maybe uninstalling them for a day and see if you're still experiencing this issue
other than that it could be that your commute involves travelling thru areas of no signal where the phone keeps trying to find a signal - that can drain battery a lot

Thanks - I'll try that next time. Might also try a factory reset but not restore from the LG G5 backup to see what happens then.

how bright is your display? do you leave it on all your commute?
Got your wifi enabled which hunts for a signal even though you aren't using wifi? try turning it off. Same with location setting.

And how strong a signal do you have on your commute. Streaming lots of data on a really weak signal will kill battery, too.

Go into settings and see whats draining your battery.

Now the android system power usage is back to 4-5%. Previously it was 21%-25%. So issue resolved. Need to find out the way to inform this to Samsung so they can identify which app is consuming full battery power.

Hi, i'm facing ridiculous drains too and factory resetting hasn't seemed to help. I'm trying your resolution, but I don't entirely understand you. Could you kindly guide step by step? also, if you mean going to optimise battery usage, when i go there and select the 'apps not optimized' all the apps there are greyed out therefore not allowing me to select them.

One UI battery

Ever since I updated to Android PIE (One UI). I've noticed a major decrease in the battery. I was able to get a full day of usage with oreo, now I only get a little over half a day of usage. Not to mention the battery usage of screen off time is about 10-15% worse than what it was on Oreo...
I doubt I'm the only one with this problem, so has anyone found a fix to this? Or should I just revert back to oreo?

Make sure you factory reset after updating to Pie

I factory reset the phone after installing Pie and battery improved greatly. battery while using the phone is pretty much the same, but phone in standby time drains waaaay less battery than on Oreo.
You should factory reset your phone after every major update like this one

Is your google backup still working?
My SoT and standby battery improved graitly after deleting google accounts, samsung, and emails.
Only got twitter, fb, fb messenger as social media.
I know this is not a fix, but I did this, to check battery without google accounts activated.
I start to beleive my drain comes, from the phone trying to back up and get stuck, plus a play store that kept crashing.
It even showed at device maintenance, but then again, that one isn't working properly neither for a lot of users.

I've factory reset my phone. However I'm never gonna use samsung cloud to backup again, either backup wont work or restore won't work.
In terms of battery, it's gotten a little better, however I still feel like it was better back on Oreo.

Not factory resetting
I've owned my Galaxy S9 for a little over a month now, and I've done lots with it. I've installed a lot of apps and would hate to factory reset it and have to go through the process of setting it up again.
The battery has gotten worse on Pie but I want to fix the battery issue without factory resetting it. I know I can enable Power Mode but then I can't use Gear VR. Any ideas?

Clear cache from recovery
Install something like BetterBatteryStats and find out what is draining the battery (Needs some ADB commands to give it permissions but does not require root)
Disable AOD
Turn off background usage for apps you do not need to run in the background from that specific apps info screen
Dev Options > Background Check can also stop apps from running in the background
Turn off notifications for apps you do not need them from (I always assume if they have notification permission, they have to run in the background in order to provide notifications in the first place)
But the ultimate battery fixer after upgrading to a new Android version is and always will be a factory reset, you just cannot fix battery drain properly any other way, the previous OS leaves behind rubbish files which drains the battery, always been the case

I gave in and decided to back up my data using Smart Switch and factory reset. It was a pain setting everything up again and some apps just weren't reinstalled for some reason. I can confirm that the battery isn't as bad as it was previously, but it still drops by 1% every few minutes like on Oreo. I've turned on power saving mode and disabled AOD, but the battery still remains disappointing. Hopefully this will be fixed in a future update.
