Touch Buttons - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Is it just me or are the three bottom touch screen buttons finnicky not always responsive on the first click? Like when you're clicking it one of the touch buttons quickly, you have to wait a second then touch the button again for a response. Also your thumb has to be right on the button, can't touch corners etc.
Do you guys find you often have to repress one of the touch buttons on the bottom?

Nope. Maybe you're missing the button.

Yes - especially when it is in my car dock.
My HTC Evo 4G has some kind of issue where the screen would not register touch if you laid it on a table or something but it worked fine if you held it in your hand. They were able to fix this with a software update (I have no idea how).
The Nexus feels like the same kind of issue - the soft buttons work ok if I'm holding it but on the table they don't seem to register a push well.

i noticed this too,
BUT, i also noticed that you have to pretty much touch the actual icon itself.
i tried tapping in-between the keys and noticed that it didn't do anything.
so no worries man, noting is wrong with your phone.
fwiw i have a wet screen protector on, so that might attribute to it.

Same issue here, I'm wondering if they dialed down sensitivity too much to avoid accidental presses while typing? I think it should only reduce sensitivity while the keyboard is up, not always.
Hope they increase the sensitivity a bit

i've seen stuff like this on other phones like my Samsung Wave S8500, some areas of the touchscreen don't respond properly unless part of you is touching the phone case, probably caused by the way capacitive touchscreens work?

I just find the multi task button is a bit laggy, but this could be to do with redrawing the app images that's about it.

Apps random minimize

Hello everybody,
today I have to ask if somebody has a solution for me
When I click sometimes on different apps just with the finger they minimze. I don't know why is there a special gesture or something? Its really strange..
FTouchFlo is disabled of course..
But maybe my device is just going to die
You know what, i have had that happen to me too!! Mine mostly happens when I press the centre key in the dpad, but i think it has happened one other time when i didnt use that key too.
I dont think its your device, might be something that has to do with WM6.1. Never had that happen in WM6.0.

This behavior is very strange..
I didn't noticed it with the dpad keys yet, just when pressing the touch screen somewhere.. It also seems to happen more often when the memory is very full or pressing on the right screen edge. Regards

Well, didn't found any solution yet but will looking for..
I agree with ICE, it does happen to me when using touch screen also. Maybe its an alignment issue?
It is an alignment issue! I am having this too! Touch screen smoetimes thinks that you press upper corner of the screen! I think this is Windows Mobile problem but also it may be a hardware issue!

I guess early WM6.0 releases had some screen alignment issues, but the more i read, it is related to hardware issue...LOL
I have the same problem!!!
Never had screen alignment issues, but my screen has damages from stylus on the "X" button from pressing there and on the scroll bar from scrolling while surfing the internet, I think that is the cause of the problem with my device..
I must say it is really annoying and made me realize I will NEVER use stylus in my life..
Just my 2 cents..
I've noticed the same problem occasionally, and from memory it (maybe) happened a lot more on some of the early WM6.1 ROMs. I haven't noticed it for a while though.
Do you think its the same as in the wiki? HT646 on http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Problems
Where the right corner keeps touching. If you've got any xbutton installed, its bound to minimize. Some of the problems farther down link this to the screen heating up and eventually not working till it cools down.

Well it happens even in the morning when the phone is fully charged, and hasnt been used/touched/handled in over 8 hours, so I doubt its a heat issue.
Shamanix, are you saying this whole problem may be caused by the HTC X Button software?
Happens to me also but only since I switched to 6.1 ROM's
I also had this issue on 6.0.
Can't really believe that this is an hardware bug, maybe a special hermes "feature"
Yesterday, when I was scrolling over the edge I saw the x button going down *lol*
Would be interesting if kaiser users have the same problems.
No I am not saying it is because of X-Button software... I said that I have damaged my screen when I was pressing "X" and "OK" button with stylus in the top right corner and that I have damaged right part of the screen where the scroll bar is again with stylus while I was surfing the web and scrolling so now when I press over the damaged area ( right side of the screen ) I can see X button going down just like Pay said..
So my problem is in damaged screen...
You can`t see the damage, but you can feel it with the stylus...
i have apps closing in random occasions as well. it didn't happen before using wm6.0 but it happened on almost every wm6.1 rom i flashed. i try avoiding the htx x button so i don't think it's related to it.
Im on WM6 with ftouchflo enabled and x-button bind to close apps. Happens to me also sometimes A bit annoying but I think I'll manage.
There appear to be many issues concerning the screenpart of the Hermes. I am not suggesting that this problem actualy is one of them but you might have a closer look to the space between the screen and the plastic of the housing. My whitescreenissues and the screen alignmentissues many people suffer from are caused by the thin layer of foam that HTC sticks the screen to the housing with. I recently put some new foam/tape in between and it helped me with my whitescreen issues. In the beginning I put to much and at that time touching the top plastic parts caused all sorts of reactions normally caused by touching the screen,.
Just a thought...

Capacitave buttons not very responsive..

Just been noticing that I usually have to press the capacitave buttons a few times to get it to recognize.... anyone else notice this. On my EVO if I press home or menu or back it recognized it right away, on the ET4G it seems to not recognize touch very well, but only on those soft buttons, everywhere else on the screen is great...
Mine work good, a hell of a lot better than my Epics. I'd say mine are a little less sensitive than the Evo 4G's and the Shift though.

I think these have a smaller area for the button than the EVO did because I was experiencing the same thing but then noticed I wasn't pressing low enough. Now that I'm getting more used to the layout it seems like I'm getting a response from the buttons every time.

[Q] Alternative to Power Button to turn screen on / off

It's been something that has bothered me ever since I bought my Galaxy Nexus. The existence of just one physical button to switch the screen on and off makes me question the lifetime of Power Button.
Does anyone know of any apps, mods, whatever for this? My first thought was to enable the Volume Keys to wake up the screen, I have also read about the proximity sensor but I don't think having the sensor active all the time is a good approach. Another way could be shaking the phone to turn it on.
Taken from a google search .... "There's an app called "No Lock" that will wake the Nexus One using the Volume rocker"
May work on the Galaxy Nexus too maybe but i dont know
Yea, I've seen that app too but it doens't do exactly what I want. Plus it disables entirely the lock screen which is certainly something I do not want. :\
look for smart screen on app, it enables you to turn your device on and off with the proximity sensor

Screen off & Lock works fine & cuts the wear & t4ear on the power button in half. I halve it set up as swipe action in Nova launcher.
AOKP had volume rocker wake in the ROM Control too.
Can try this app "Smart screen on"
it uses the proximity sensor to wake the phone..

Have you tried "ShakeOff"? Turn the screen off/on with a shake. I haven't tested it on the GN but it used to work on my old phone.

Volume rocker. You have warranty anyway for a year.
Also, you do realize there's only one way to accelerate in a car right? Are you worried that the pedal won't work everyday so you'll need to find an alternative way to drive?

that's a nice analogy. now consider this:
car's are made to last, let's say, for 10 years.
smartphones and electronics/gadgets in general aren't.
not even going to mention the "years of expertise" behind the mechanics on a car.
thanks - everyone - for the replies I will try those!
I will say the power button on this phone is we made and I'm sure it will last just fine
I've had worse. Like my thunderbolt

AOKP can do what you request.
my power button on my GN stopped functioning after 6 months of use. It requires me to press in very hard to get a response now or none at all. I'm in the process of backing everything up and beginning the warranty process with expansys. Have to say, I considered this to be the best phone I've ever had and this just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
You could always try PGM Nexus (free). It allows you to unlock your phone by sliding your finger across the screen.

how so? I'm not one to nitpick small flaws, every phone has them. the power button failing is a major issue though. I would've still attributed it to a defective exception if I hadn't see many more people reporting the same thing. I did start using the volume rocker wake in cm9, but probably a bit too late

Even i worry a lot about the power button thingy. I use PGM nexus free version and it partially does the job. But for screen off i still have to use the power button.

Intermittent unresponsive portion of screen

After having a week with the Note 2, I have found a rather annoying problem with the screen and was wondering if anyone else has the same issue.
The problem involves the portion of the screen where the "L" key is. Sometimes it triggers on touch but most of the time it doesn't. To test, all you have to do is mash on the "L" key repeatedly. Mash all over the region of the key and if your key doesn't respond at time, then you have the same issue as me. The funny part is, the region to the right of the key works fine. I can mash all I want and the key registers.
I have attached an image that highlights in green of the area I have having issues with. I also tested this by turning the phone to landscape and mashing the key that falls into the green area. I do have a screen protector but I removed it and the problem is still there.
I am currently using SwiftKey 3 but this issue happens on the Samsung and Swype keyboards as well.
I'm going to call ATT and ask for an exchange.
im not getting that

I had that issue...but it was because I had button savior installed...and I think it was looking for that edge swipe gesture. anyhow I uninstalled button savior and all is well.

[Q] I hate the S4 physical home button. Can it be made better?

I am not looking for a flame war or stupid "I agree" vs "I disagree" comments. I am looking for solutions. I am sorry for starting the flame war.
I recently got an S4 and am very unhappy with the physical push home button. I wish it was a capacitive button.
I HATE the physical home button!
Are there any fixes that can make the capacitive touch screen above and below the home button work to make it so that I don't have to hit my phone when I want to use the home button?
Its slower to use <endless S Voice complaints>
Its usage is inconsistent with the other capacitive buttons <requires more physical force>
Incompatible with pen use
It is more likely to break than a capacitive button
Its more likely to get dust and dirt and lint inside your device
It cost more to manufacture and assemble
Why would they make this a physical button? What's the point? So many down-sides, no up-sides that I can think of. Was Samsung only copying the iPhones physical button?
The one good reason to have another physical button on the phone is for recovery. You need a button to press since the touch screen requires drivers and more software that recovery does not have.

I'm sure someone will figure out a way to add the Navigation bar like the Nexus devices. Warning, that navigation bar will burn it's image on the screen over time. That's one of the reasons I decided to get rid of my Galaxy Nexus.

I agree, this is the biggest letdown for me coming from the S2 T989. It really is annoying, with no good reason to exist that I can think of. Hopefully the S5 will go back to the S2 way of doing things.
There isn't really any point to ranting about it now. Id suggest using Swipe home button app if you don't like the physical home button. I personally doesn't like it but im sure it works well for some people, I don't like capacitive home buttons either. My reason is, when I'm watching a video or playing a game, accidentally touching the home button brings you back to the homescreen which is quite annoying. I prefer physical over capacitive. That's just my opinion though

Theres many ROMS available that let you replicate the nexus Navigation bar, or you can mod the stock OS to allow you to do that as well. You can also disable the function of the physical home button if you wish as well. I have nothing against the physical home button and personally prefer it, and i tried the nexus navigation bar and it worked perfect however it felt like a waste of screen space when i could just disable it and use the built in buttons.
