To update from 2.3.5 to 2.3.6 ODIN is not needed. You can simply update via Samsung Kies or OverTheAir(OTA). To do it over the air you will need to register at Samsung via phone. If you have trobles I can guide you trough this.
Incase you still want to Update via ODIN I will send you an instruction.

Which is the best method ? Can you guide me through it please?
In the meantime, Kies is getting updated.
So if i use Kies, i should wait till i get the phone to 2.3.6 and then Root it ?
Should i root the phone before the update via Kies or after the update?

I would say updateing OverTheAir is maybe safer, because Kies messed up a couple of phones. I have updated mine a couple of times via Kies without an issue.
I will tell you both options, choose yourself:
OTA(OverTheAir):
1. step backup everything what is important to you. Nothing should be deleted, but you never know.
2. Make sure your phone has min 80% battery(safety reasons, not required) or be connected to the power socket.
3. You will have to have WiFi on your SGW enabled and connected with internet access.
4. Go to Settings->About Phone->Software update. Here they will ask you to register, do that and login.
5. Rest should be done automatically by your phone, download, updating etc..
If you don't want to register you should use Samsung Kies. It may be even easier but a couple of issues have been reported.
Samsung Kies:
1. step backup everything what is important to you. Nothing should be deleted, but you never know.
2. Make sure your phone has min 80% battery(safety reasons, not required) or be connected to the power socket.
3. Install Samsung Kies.
4. Make sure USB-Debugging is disabled(Settings->Applications->Development->USB-Debugging)
5. Connect your SGW with your PC and let all the drivers install.
6.Open Kies and wait until Kies recognizes your phone, than Kies should show, if you click on your device, that there is a new firmware available for your phone. Hit update and wait for 30-50 minutes(maybe even longer).

First do the update, because the root access will be vanished after updating.
So:
1.Update to latest firmware.
2.Root via recovery.
3. If you like, add CWM.

Thank you alot !!!!!!!!!!!!
I think since people have reported issues with Kies, thats why i asked to update via odin in the first place, after reading a post in another thread.
Ill just follow the steps you outlined for the "OTA" update. Right now the battery is at 49%, ill charge it full and then do the OTA update.
I will report back here.
Once again thanks for taking the time to right everything down.

Yes, the latest firmware (LA2) is rootable, but only with the method via recovery.
Make sure you check the Software update-status after the update. Maybe it will have to update once more.

Alright, The-E. I have my phone updated.
This is the message i see after 2 updates.
"Phone Updated to version I8150JPLA4/I8150OJPLA1/I8150XXKL3"
The phone definitely feels a lot snappier and the icons have changed a bit as well. Theres a bit more detail in the colors.

Yes I just noticed this too. In Germany LA2 is still the latest firmware.
I think you are one of the first with this firmware. I think the way how to root should'nt have changed. All you can do is try and see or wait till somebody tries and reports.
good luck

Alright, so if it does not work, will it brick my phone ? Are there chances of it happening ?
Do you want me to do any tests before rooting ?
i have noticed that the contrast is quite high in this update, HOw can i take a screenshot and post it here.

As far as I know, bricking should not happen, because actually it is just transfering data
and setting permissions. But new firmware ne rules ;-)
If it does not boot or anything, you should be able to go to download mode and reflash the firmware.
This is how far I can tell, sorry, but for the rest you are by your own.
If you try do a backup of anything you need.
If you want to make a screenshot: while pressing Home-button, press the Power-Button.
BTW: There is no phone bricking reported for the SGW til now. There was always a solution.

You will have to search a I8150JP...... firmware. You have right now I8150JPLA4.
You can also get a older one and then update.
good luck, got to leave
EDIT: I have checked sammobile.com, they don't have a I8150JP...... firmware. So in case something goes wrong you will have to flash first a other firmware from a other region and wait till you get a new firmware with I8150JP... .

Hi guys,
My phone uses build VJKJ4, 2.3.5 and I'd like to update to 2.3.6. What firmwares I can use? What should I look for? Any chances that my phone may not work due to different region standards?
Funny thing is that Kies says my phone can't be updated through it. WTF?!

Hello MR THE-E
I install my rom I8150JPKJ3_OJPKJ4 (2.3.5) from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1458964
And after that I cannot upgrade the device
I tried about->software update->update result = No update avalable
Then I tried kies but kies show not error and current firmware version: I8150JPKJ3/I8150OJPKJ4/I8150XXKJ1/I8150JPKJ3
The device was rooted after reading this thread I unroot the device and try but the same result
can you help me please?!?!?
what is SGW?????

SGW is our phone: Samsung Galaxy W(W for Wonder) aka Ancora.
The reason I believe, that you can not upgrade to 2.3.6 is that your region have no update yet.
You might want to wait a bit longer if you want original firmware.

That doesn't fix issues for those of us that need to have the full stock firmware to re-Odin with. Guess those of us in the same boat wait a week or so. My problem was removing the knox files with root explorer. Bad move. Makes the phone unbootable. Called Samsung tech support and they confirmed that. Rooting no problem. Recovery screen totally blank. Never get to see the the white/green screen some say they have for a recovery screen. The magic use volume up keys 7 times etc I have seen posted don't work for me. Samsung specifically told me the stock firmware is proprietary, so they wouldn't give it to me. I can wait a week or so for developers to get their hands on appropriate files, including a custom recovery that actually works...like good old TWRP :victory:

have you tried to flash the S6 file? not the S6 edge but the S6. Try to get yourself in download mode and do that. Make sure you are using the correct odin. That is what happened to me and I was able to obtain ROOT.
If you can get into download mode, you can now use Kies to install the stock firmware. Just did it about 3 mins ago.

I used Kies to restore the Firmware. Unfortunately, I was unable to find the Firmware file on my computer (Or could not figure out how to use it). I did see a temp file that was the correct size, but it's name and extension were wrong. I tried to open the file using 7-Zip and WinRar, but neither would open it. At that point, I just allowed Kies to do it's job, and it worked well. Removed ROOT and am now running Stock Firmware and Stock Recovery. KNOX is still tripped, but I don't care at this point.
In Kies, use the option: "Firmware Upgrade and Initialization". You will need your Model Name and Serial Number. Found on the box or in Settings if you can get there. I've got a T-Mobile Edge, so my Model Name is SM-G925T. Your serial will be unique.

I deleted via root explorer a slew of knox fies. Samsung told me by doing this, it renders the phone non bootable. That is why I need a full stock firmware tar file I can use in Odin, to flash the original complete firmware for my 925 Edge.Removing root, re-rooting, will not help. Chainfire said that SamMobile rleased the firmware files but all I get is web page not available. Grrrrr. Really wish someone would post the file in the Development sections or at least provide a working link.

I had also removed all of the KNOX files, and most of the Samsung Files trying to get close to AOSP, but it became unstable. Kies re-installed the COMPLETE firmware again and all the stock files returned. I don't mean it removed ROOT only, it flashed the complete firmware. Kies uses ODIN internally to do the flash.

Okay I was able to find a workaround on how to restore my phone through Kies without getting an error.
do the following: 1) open Kies, click on tools, Firmware upgrade and initialisation, enter your model number and serial number and let it download the firmware, after an hour or so depending on your connection speed the firmware will be downloaded and your phone will reboot into recovery to install the firmware. done

That's exactly what I was saying to do a few posts back. Did it yesterday and it worked fine.
EDIT: I'm going to run through it again and see if I can find the downloaded file. I believe I found it last time, but it was not a TAR file, rather a temp file specific to MY phone. But I'll try again, and if I get it, will post it here.

No problem, as long as we all get there at some point. The temp file that Kies downloads is called tmpE635.tmp It ends up being about 1.6GB in size. I tried to open it using 7-Zip and WinRar, but neither will open it. I'll post it in case anyone wants to try using it in ODIN. I don't know if it is specific to MY phone, or the T-Mobile S6 Edge in general (SM-G295T).
But, honestly, I would suggest you use Kies yourself so you are positive to get the correct file. You WILL get the error message that says Kies does not support your phone, just ignore that and keep going.
Phone Serial Number
I just realized that the Serial Number Kies is asking for is not on my Box. It's in the settings/about/status menu, and also on a sticker that is stuck to the Plastic Wrap that was around the phone in the box. Looks sort of like this: R58G31D1PBA. So, if you cannot get into your settings, or don't have that plastic, I'm not positive how you will get it to start the download. Maybe if you just use someone elses serial number, that will start the download???
EDIT: Link to the Temp File from Kies (not sure you'll be able to do anything with it)

That was my plan ...however they do not support this model number yet so its not available to be reflashed. I checked sammobile as well figuring I could download firmware and use Odin to reflash and same situation.
There's a chance the sm-t377R4 firmware may flash as it's practically identical to the sprint firmware just a different csc.
Okay....will try and find that one.

Also, after i rooted can i update my device to a newer version or do i have to remove the root. Lastly, how do you back up your device? Thank you! I appreciate your hard work!

You can follow the tutorial below, it's for the Tab A but the procedure is identical.
Obviously don't use the cf_autoroot file in the tutorial use the one here. Also note the PDA button in Odin is now called AP.

To back up you device you need to install TWRP.
Search Google for info on using TWRP.

Thanks For the help!
Where do I get TWRP for Tab E T560, and how do I install it?
Thank you.
Edit: Found the answer.

There's a chance the sm-t377R4 firmware may flash as it's practically identical to the sprint firmware just a different csc.

I tried the t377R4 firmware that didn't work. Any idea on where I could track down a copy of the t377p? Odd I can't even use the Samsung Smart Switch or even Kies as it doesn't recognize the model number. Or if anyone has a backup available they can share please let me know.
I have a US Cellular Samsung Tab E SM-T377R4 and I rooted it using the procedure below. The root process went fine and everything is working well except Recovery Mode does not work. It just boots to a black blank screen when I try to go to Recovery Mode. But that's no big deal to me.

You can follow the tutorial below, it's for the Tab A but the procedure is identical.
Obviously don't use the cf_autoroot file in the tutorial use the one here. Also note the PDA button in Odin is now called AP.

Surprised recovery doesn't work, considering the 2 devices are identical specs.
Try installing Twrp, you'll probably find that works OK.

Same problem here... I've been looking all over for a copy of the SM-T377P stock ROM. Anyone that happens to have a copy/link for it please share.

What's the issue?
Rooting gone bad... Rooted my SM-T377P with KingRoot and there is an FRP Lock that comes up a week later. All of the custom ROM versions I have keep getting rejected by ODIN every time I try to flash them. The only other way I can think of doing this is to flash the stock ROM for the device.

You realise you can't flash a custom rom with odin?
Also when you flash the stock t377r4 firmware what part fails?
The aboot fails every time I try to flash it

Got it last month, but thanks for the heads up in case others have not.
does anyone have this to flash with ODIN? I just need to flash this to get the newer baseband radio from it.
---------- Post added at 04:36 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:17 PM ----------
Okay found all of the stuff OIDN and drivers and the rom along with TWRP 2.8.7.0 to flash with ODIN after the firmware it flashed so that you can go back to a know good working recovery once your done with the baseband update. I'll post a link to my google drive once I have all of that in place. Now what I'd like to know is if you would like it all in part ie. rom zip then the odin zip and the recovery zip and the drivers zip or would you like it in one big zip file? Let me know. That way I can get up to the drive that most of the users want it in. Thanks and glade we still have devs that work on this old but still kick a$$ phone.

Take sim card out while flashing.
I tried to flash mine through ota update. Somehow damaged my sim.
I realised a day later that i could not send an sms message. Recieve ok send no. Everything else was fine. Lucky i had my girl's sim to test it.
Had to get a new one at the store. They tried to charge me. Ha!
Better safe than sorry.

I accepted this update via OTA and had no such problems, I suspect your problems may have been caused by a failed update.

Yes. it was. The file I downloaded from here (QD2 Update) would not complete flashing. So I ODINed the PL1 firmware and tried to flash again. did not work. blahdiblah.
Eventually I went through the OTA update from PL1. the phone rebooted telling me to insert sim. I managed to restart the phone and get the sim recognized, but the sim was damaged somehow with it not being able to send text messages.
Went to the store. they at first tried to charge me for a new sim.... but then the guy remembered that I had previously called his manager complaining that he was too good of a salesman.... then he told me straight: "we've had a bunch of complaints about that problem" (OTA updates breaking SIM cards)
So, Just to be on the safe side, I take the sim out from now on.
Alright.

Network Problem
hey. Guys i have a sm-n900t but my sim card wont read. There is a round circle with a line in it and when i try to call some it say "mobile network not available" please help me guys...
I suspect you may have an out of date modem that's not compatible with the latest Lollipop update. My initial questions to you are did you install this update via OTA or using ODIN and what OS did you have prior to installing this update? If your currently installed modem is indeed out of date, the first troubleshooting step would be to re-flash the N900TUVUFQD2 firmware using ODIN.
If I'm on this baseband version, can i flash the Dompop rom: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...rom-dompop-urv1-tekhd-edition-note-4-t3060175
Or do i need to change baseband version??
Also, to root my note 3 should i follow this guide or something else? https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2672393

here, i just posted this: https://forum.xda-developers.com/no...updated-bl-cp-t-mobile-galaxy-note-3-t3651839
ODIN should update the modem partition when you flash the latest firmware, I'm not sure why yours didn't update unless you somehow flashed it incorrectly. I'll record a video on how to do if you'd like.
I have the SM-N900TUVUFQD2 from T Mobile, but not on a major network.
Would like to update to Marshmallow, can someone please post the steps on how to do this or a link if someone has the Marshmallow update file, please.
The link in AndroidHacker99 post is 5.0 Lollipop
Update; I am running Phronesis N5 6.0.1 v3.0 and it is running very well with no problems.

Alright, sounds like there needs to be some clarification here.
#1. I installed the update via ODIN, and IF you flashed the update via ODIN as well, your baseband WILL update (assuming something didn't go wrong, in which case I recommend a re-flash to ensure the process completed successfully).
#2. I never intended this to become an error reporting thread, I was simply posting a notification for those who didn't know about this update. You should go post about this in the Troubleshooting section of this Note 3 (TMO) subsection.
#3. If you want to complain to me saying "This update broke my phone!!"... It's not my software, therefore it's not my problem. All modifications (this includes firmware flashes) are YOUR responsibility and YOU perform it at YOUR OWN RISK.
Go look around on XDA, everyone says "PERFORM AT YOUR OWN RISK".
Hope this cleared most of it up, if not... go re-read it because you probably didn't ACTUALLY read it.

Nope, root is not needed.
Things to check: Do you have the most recent Odin? Did you download firmware for the correct Tab S4 model? Are you installing an older firmware over a newer version already on the tablet? Did you enter the right parts in the right slots in Odin?
I lean toward the thorough/careful side, so I recommend you start over from the beginning, making sure you have all the right stuff. In order to download the right firmware, you need three pieces of information up-front.
(1) Your Tab S4 Model Number
I have the WIFI edition, which has the model number SM-T830.
Go to: Settings -> About Tablet
It shows "Model number" just below the tablet name and [EDIT] button.
(2) Your Firmware Version - "Build Number"
Go to: Settings -> About Tablet -> Software information
Scroll to "Build number"
Installing a firmware with a matching version, or newer (last 4 letters, alphabetical order: ARK4 is newer than ARJ4).
Mine shows "M1AJQ.T830XXU2ARK4", which is the latest version (as of post date) for the SM-T830.
(3) Your "Carrier" or "Service provider"
Same screen as step #2
Settings -> About Tablet -> Software information
Scroll down to "Service provider / SW ver."
The last line in this section is a 3 letter code identifying your carrier.
Mine shows "XAR//", so it's XAR.
Now, go to sammobile.com to download your firmware. You can enter your model number (from step #1) in the search field.
As I mentioned before, my model is the SM-T830.
When you get to the page for your Tab S4 model, scroll down a tad bit and look at the section "LATEST FIRMWARES" and click on the "Select country" list. The list shows a country and the 3-letter code from step #3. My XAR appears in the list as "Cellular south (XAR)"... for some reason that's how Samsung lists the WIFI model for the USA.
After selecting, you will now see a list of firmware releases with dates. You can either just click the most-recent, or check against your firmware from Step #2. Compare the PDA field to your firmware version. My firmware appears in the list as: "2018-12-09 8.1.0 T830XXU2ARK4 T830OXM2ARK4", so I clicked that one (or something more recent if I want the newest). Clicking takes you to the download screen.
You can download via the "WAIT & DOWNLOAD" button, which takes about 2 or 3 hours (they meant it when they said "wait").
Please note on the right side of the page, you will see "INSTRUCTIONS (5 FILES)" which detail how to flash. The first line in the instructions tells you the most recent Odin version (v3.13.1) and provides a link to download it. The rest of the instructions tell you exactly what to do in order to flash. I followed them, though I left the CP slot blank since my model's firmware did not include the CP image.

@EatingPie
if you look at the previous post that is exactly what I did .... and nothing would load ... no error message .... just FAIL
someone suggested using USB 2.0 ... I would think the computer would do that automatically
I do not have a working system to look at some of the things you suggested ... I have a factory binary
I think I have an expensive paperweight
I think I will wait a month or so and see if anyone can come up with an answer
How to go from Factory Binary to a working system

Your flashing firmware this is not intended for your device, plain and simple.
You will also have a message on the device screen that will tell you the reason as well as the authorisation fail in Odin.
If you want to attempt to flash firmware not intended for your device, you need to be oem unlocked and rmm unlocked.
If you read the first response it says to use SMARTSWITCH. there is no reference to ODIN. if you install SMARTSWITCH on your computer it can restore the factory image. You need to provide the serial number from the device. (Usually printed on rear off device)

can confirm. i'm trading in my s4 for s7+ and even though I had just gone through the tedious process of rooting and twrp'ing the s7+ with odin (so fresh in my mind), it was still such a pain in the ass to try to figure out how to restore my s4 using odin. I fired up smartswitch for PC and it did it in about 30 minutes, one click.
coming from pixel phones, the way samsung rooting works in just crazy complicated to me.
