Is there still interest in a Free Tilt2/Touch pro 2 HardSPL/ unlocker? - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Windows Mobile General

Since this is an older phone I'm thinking of trying to come up with a free Hard SPL and an unlocker for this phone. I know there is a HardSPL made by olinex group, but it only allows one free hardspl (I have 5 lines on my plan and thinking of getting TP2s for all of them) and theya re charging for the unlocking. I would like to check if there is still an interest in such a free tool. I don't want to spend a lot of time on something that I would only benefit from very few times and no one else would be interested in using.

Perhaps bug Olipro, see if he'd be willing to do that...? I can't imagine they're making too much money off the project anymore...

Yes, definitely.

Yeah please do it!! Im new to all this but I know I really need the HardSPL flash software.

It doesn't look like this phone is as popular any more. Only two people interested in this. So I'm definitely not going to dedicate a lot of time to this. So I might work on it when I have time to kill but will not give it high priority. I'll keep monitoring the thread to see if this changes.

If you go over to ppcgeeks.com I think you'll find it's still very popular.

It would be nice, i have just setup 10 devices without HSPL using stock Roms, but i would love to be able to freely HSPL phones we are looking at setting up about another 15 at this stage, we can get a lot of these phones for $190NZ.
If i was able to HSPL them we might get another 50+
It is true that these phones are getting older now, but in saying that they are a good quality phone that preforms as expected no matter what i throw at it.

Well, count me as third one And nand is coming for the tp2, so interest will grow.

Yes, but that thread says [testing]. Thats ok, because for me [stable] is less interesting. But my wife definitely wants [stable] and doesn't want to make an exception to that general rule when it comes to her phone

One more person wants it!
After unlocking my first one, I really wanted to use it on the second one I found at a great price.
I have a great deal of respect for the folks (guy/gal) that originally cracked the boot loader, but it has been over a month since I requested to use it on a second device, and despite polite correspondence, my "ticket" is still "open".
I can understand them being busy with newer devices, but I think it is kind of sad that they have the code, and will not even respond to requests for it.
A simple "we no longer support this device" would have been appreciated, as apposed to leaving people hanging for a ticket that will never be addressed.
Even kinder, if they are not gaining revenue from it, maybe set it free!

thanks
cajun
I've just used your keyboard fix after installing kwbr's Tilt 2 rom. Thank you very much, worked beautifully. I'd thank everyone on that thread except I'm not allowed.
Took me ages to get ActiveSync to work in XP, had to install a CAB supplied on the hard spl thread to get it to work. Thanks for your efforts.

I'd like to unlock mine just for the sake of it, plan on keeping it with sprint but who knows in future? which is why I'd unlock mine lol, but since I have no real need presently I'm not tempted enough to pay for it, since the cost of the unlock is more than what phone is now worth :S

Got an ebay replacement for my TP2 and got the "commercial" error message from the Rhodium HardSPL file. Not looking to jip anyone, just want to get my replacement back to the way my old phone was. PM'd Olipro, but I know they are busy (no response yet to ticket).
So if this thread leads to another way to HSPL these things then that would make my phone very happy.
Cajunflavoredbob, could you PM me too?
Thanks.

Count me in. I still use mine as primary phone, but will upgrade soon and nice to have unlocked. Also interested on the behind the scenes as to how it all worked, read the other thread in ppc a few minutes ago and wondered if there were any interest in this. Also wonder if anyone has the stuff from the other groups I could look at, even if it would not work for me.

Yeah I bought off eBay a bad ESN Verizon one for 40$ thinking it would have worked perfectly with GSM networks here in Italy to then find out that I would have had to pay another 20$ to Olinex just to unlock it. I owned one and paid that fee in 2009 (and that's why I bought one again... I loved it so much...) and he didn't ever answer my ticket where I was asking for this favor seeing I already donated and it would be dumb anyway to pay 20$ to unlock a 40$ worth phone...

Go here.
No PMs, please.

I just ordered a Touch for Sprint cause I get 3000 MIN. Nights/Weekends. Unlimited Txt/Pic Msg/Data. for $20 a month. So i'm breaking my Tmobile contract..
I like to try out new roms, but there really isn't much.
Will any cooking be happing in the Vogue forums? Hope so..

I'm not saying your situation is just like this guy, but in order for this to flourish, we all have to work together to build ROMs. I am still very new to it, but once you starting playing around with building them, it begins to get easier. I'm not trying to sound like an ass over this, but if you are "so disappointed" in Vogue ROMs... you might want to step up to the plate and do something about it. I know that is what I am trying to do by learning how to build a ROM. There is a lot of whining and b00n-ness in the Vogue forum, I think it has to do to the fact that this phone is *still* rather new to this community.
As far as the kitchens are concerned, (more or less) they are the same approach. It just bottom lines to the fact that there is a time requirement to build one and the necessity to actually sit down and learn something rather than pointing and clicking. I feel that there is an art to this since we don't have a GUI-based kitchen for the Titan or the Vogue. Because of this, I think more thanks needs to go to the people leading this battle (Cokeman, DogGuy, etc).
Again, I don't mean to incite anything, but complaining doesn't help the community in any way. I guess I have read too much of it lol. I apologize in advance if anyone gets upset over this *end rant*
In case you haven't seen it yet, a few Windows Mobile 6.1 ROMs have recently been uploaded.
You also might want to check out PPCGeeks.com Vogue Forum as there is a lot more activity there than here.
To be honest, I agree with Mr.Geoff...
I'd love to get down and dirty with ROM cooking, hell I might become the next Helmi.
Anyways, I can't start doing anything as I don't know where to start. If you can point me in the right direction, I should be able to take it from there.
I would like to learn how to do this myself, but, I've found it hard to get information to get started. I know this place is full of info, but when I search I can't seem to figure out were to even start. One thing I'd like to know before I do anything is how to make a backup of my current ROM and Radio and anything else that I might want to put back after a change. Do you have any good links or info to start by backing up my current device?

I have had to wander a lot on XDA and PPCGeeks to find the information I needed. There has/is a lot of info in the Hermes, Trinity, and Kaiser sections.
Attached is a Word document that does a pretty good job of giving you an idea of adding stuff to your custom ROM. I would give credit to the person that made it, but I don't remember who that is.
The software for creating an oem package that was mentioned in the document is not free, but there is also something else out there that does an acceptable job (and I use it). Again, I would give credit where it's due, but I don't remember where it came from (I think I found it on this site).
This should give you guys a decent understanding on what needs to be done. The temporary kitchen is on PPCGeeks. If you guys aren't a member there, I suggest you become one It will be well worth your time.

Elite Team ROM Project & Signing Team

Hi Guys,
So, this is the placeholder thread for a ROM we intend to produce... we want ideas... donations would be a plus, we don't actually have a Diamond.
Also, we want people familiar with building and extracting NBHs, or with a bit of savvy, who we can trust who we want to give our signing certificate to so they can sign ROMs (for yourself, and for other people)
Those interested, please post!
count me in!!!
Probably a noob question but anyways. Is this another team working on another project? I already donated to Tom's work. It doesn't really matter, I just want really nice things to happen really fast to the beloved Diamond. In fact I decided to wait for the Touch Pro but guess all this will jump start it when it finally arrives.
I'll help in any way I can...
count me in if u guys feel i can apply for the team. read my works to know more about me
Me too, know the basics, but I'm not so retarded that I can't follow instructions to do anything you need once I've got one.

yes, another project... since Tom Codon is just a feckless untalented twit who uses other people to release **** (yep, jocky made his (unworking) Hard-SPL, not Tom), he had success with the Nike project in getting a free device, so he fancied freeloading his way to one here. (interestingly, I was originally slated to get a device... enough money was made but it seems that disappeared into Tom's pocket)
So, I frankly don't like this crap, so we're stepping in to take over basically... this is partly why we're releasing the Hard-SPL with signing, so good Ole Tom doesn't rip us off and resume his game.
I was originally uninvolved in these politics, then people started telling me how Tom was deliberately trying to avoid working with me so he could release a Hard-SPL and keep the stuff to himself, well, I guess that ****ing backfired now.
Anyway folks, me, cmonex, bepe and walshieau plan to bang out a a suitable ROM for your delight.
So, anybody with ROMs, skills and anything to contribute, PM Me or Cmonex (or post here, we'll get around to PMing you)!

Since they can never lock down the OS to prevent you running your own apps (because that'd never sell) they can't stop us putting stuff in RAM, so no matter what they try, we always have an angle to load our own stuff to flash.

If they manage to completely rebuild the bootloader, you'd need to work out how to use it, which would at least slow you down...

Oli and cmonex do a lot for this community whether you realize it or not. It seems like every new device that hits has oli and cmonex working on tools like hard spl and unlockers to further our tweaking and hacking needs. I can see why he gets frustrated with the state of things, he works quite hard on solving these technical challenges and all he gets for it is ripped off as in the case of people selling his unlockers on ebay. He may not seem like the friendliest of guys here but even if you don't like him you should at least respect him. I tip my hat to you oli and cmonex, you put up with more crap here than I likely would.

WARNING: Do NOT get ripped off.

This is a warning to all members of xda-developers.
One member, Olipro, is charging £75 for his "secret" to "cheaply" unbrick a bricked phone.
You could do that. You could let him break the law and void your warranty. Or you could give HTC a call. That's exactly what I did this morning, and they have said my bricked HTC Touch is still under warranty, and not only will they fix it for FREE, providing they don't find out that I tried to load a cooked ROM, but they are actually sending someone out to collect it for free!
So if they don't find evidence that I tried to load a cooked ROM they'll fix it completely free, including returning it.
If they DO find that an "illegal" ROM has been loaded to it, they will charge me £50 and fix it.
How's THAT for excellent customer service? Even if they do find that I have tampered with it they will only charge £50, compared to Olipro's £75.
So let this be a warning to everyone. DO NOT PAY OLIPRO TO "FIX" YOUR BRICKED PHONE!
*BUMP* This is really important!
Should be stickied.
I find it really hard to belive Olipro would do that!
Even if he did, it is his right to charge you for a service. And because it's a free world with a free market, YOU have the option to go with one service or the other.
There's always the option of sending it back or trying to learn the unbrick procedure like Olipro did. ...not to mention the option of leaving it stock, untouched, if we are to speak about warranty issues.
seriously... Olipro has spurred many fronts in Phone customization... and for those of us without warranties and whatnot his price is kinda fair... hes not an organization that probably gets tax creds for shipping and fixing your **** ups...
As your phone is dead, you can always send it to me... You won't get anything back, nor will you get any money, but at least you'll sleep well knowing you've made a good donation to the cause...

I see where you're coming from...but at the same time, I think Olipro charges 25 more than HTC because he'll be teaching you the secret to unlock your bricked phone...as opposed to HTC unlocking it once...
Now, if you like flashing ROMs, I'm pretty sure you're gonna end up bricking your phone one way or another, and everytime that happens, you're going to rely on Olipro's "secret" method to unlock your phone...now let's assume for the sake of the argument that you brick your phone twice in a month...that means that your total cost per fix is 12.50...not a bad deal, considering that it's kinda frustrating to find solutions online, even in a site as comprehensive and as superb as this one.
I agree with what was mentioned above...Olipro DOES have the right to present a bill for his services. After all, we're not communists...and after all, he IS sharing something that he learned by himself...you also have the right to NOT take him up on that offer. I seriously doubt that he'll take that against you anyway.
I also understand how it can be upsetting, specially after finding out that the manufacturer can fix it for free, provided that they don't find out about the ROM being touched. Nowadays, our li'l Elves and Elfins have become our constant companions...and like a good companion, I'd get seriously pissed too if my Elf/Elfin got bricked.
Sorry for the long-winded note...just my two cents. Anyway, good luck with your device =) Let us know what happens.
ps...by the way, if HTC themselves are gonna repair it, can you confirm to us (after they give you back your device) if they put in WM6.1? I know they are planning to release that on the Touch, and I was just wondering if they might install that on your device already.
Cheers!
JOKE OR DISCREDIT !!!

Firstly, how did you brick? Its pretty easy to not brick, and if you do, then you can fix it easily unless you ****ed it up by being a total idiot.
Secondly Flashing a cooked ROM or SPL or anything to your device constitutes breach of warranty, so although HTC said they'll do it for £50, they might just say **** you.
Lastly, you have no right to criticise him. He has made hacked SPL's for Many of the devices on XDA, and so loads of us are indebted to him. Plus, you made a grave mistake by opening this thread, because you are now going to feel an extremely intelligent guy raping you intellectually.
Btw, i like your thinking mrvanx

Do you blacklist service providers because there rates are more expensive than others?
Everyone has the option to shop where they want and pay what they are willing to pay for the service.

I'd think it's more likely an idiot tax... After all, if you research what you're doing, and read things properly, then do things properly, then the chance of you bricking your device is very, very low...
If you're just too silly to read and want someone else to fix your screwups, then 75 quid is more than appropriate...
I just hope HTC does fix your phone, cuz if they don't, if I were Oli, I would let you hang in the dry with that paper weight for being an idiot

Esko if you'd read the original post, HTC IS going to fix his phone and they will ONLY charge him if they find evidence of tampering....
My 2 cents is: if its true that oli charges that price with a crash course in unbricking it might not be so bad.
But if he just unbricks your phone, he is charging an extortionate price! (in dutch: woekerprijs).
I find this strange because in the short time I've been here, I've seen many good posts by him! Olipro isnt someone I'd ask to unbrick my phone anyway I'd maybe ask him which posts i should read for my particular case.
Oh, I get it. It's perfectly fine to pay someone to teach you how to rob a bank and then rob a bank as many times as you want. I never knew that!
So, anyone here selling tutorials on how to rob a bank?
I was told during my conversation with HTC that custom ROMs in general are illegal - Thus this whole site isn't exactly innocent. But if no money is being made then HTC aren't going to take down the site. However, Olipro is SELLING custom ROMs. Excuse me, but where is he buying these copies of Windows Mobile and HTC's copyrighted software from in order to resell them?
As for my Touch, UPS came and collected it and it is now with HTC.

Your logic is dumb and full of holes. Oli has done so much for the phone community and the fact that you would post on here about something like this proves that you don't think through things thoroughly.
Custom ROMS are not illegal, they are illegal if they include software that is not "free and open".
The problem you have is that you don't think for yourself. Instead of reading enough to un-brick your own device you pushed it to somebody else. Then, when HTC told you, "custom ROMS are illegal" you said, AHAH! XDA is partially at fault as well.
A better, more mature and more logical response would be to ask yourself why you didn't read enough to NOT brick your device to begin with.

If he was selling ROMs we would be VERY aware of it, as it happens he ISNT selling ROMs and I will VERY gladly stand by that statement.
I think the lesson to be learnt here is that quite clearly you didnt understand the risks of flashing your device, and obviously didnt prepare yourself for the consequences if it went wrong.
Nearly ALL veterans of this site have had a bad flash and it is one of the risks of freeing your device from the ROM on it. If you dont want to lose your device like this again, dont meddle with the software on it. Easy.
dude let me try to make it simple...maybe you'd understand that
its not illegal to put a custom rom even though it voids ur warranty
so the point im trying to make is WHY DID U COME TO THIS SITE if U DIDNT WANT TO PUT CUSTOM ROMS? is this a site where u can get free sex??? no .. the only reason any one comes here is to better their device , to make it more usable and sometimes to LEARN how to add your personal touches to it..and if something goes wrong its not any one elses fault except your own .. if you try to fix it and fail then you have to options ... either get some one from here to help you out or go the the manufacturer and try to get them to do the repair ..
if the former is the case (i suppose its same with the latter aswell) the price they would charge is upto them ....even if oli charges you 150$ for unbricking your phone its still less than the 300-800$ DEAD PAPER WEIGHT you would have cos of your stupidity !!!!
see how simple it is!! now go **** ur self!
Bit more heated than it needs to be, this..
I'm not sure there's a debate to have. Some noob people would 'brick themselves' (as we say in UK) if they bricked their phone and be frightened to touch it and make it worse. If someone's offering to do it for them for a fee, seems simple enough to me.
The 'noone need flash their phone in the first place' debate is irrelevant really. Someone just needn't use such a service if they don't want to. It's quite debrickable if you want to do it. Someone can do it for you if you're too nervous after that first ****-up.
Still not sure why a debate's sprung up.

Custom ROMs are illegal. M$ just has the common sense to not take down this site and destroy what little image it has.
Olipro is perfectly justified in what he does. He doesn't owe it to you to fix your problems.

I think Android on the Rhodium is a lost cause now :(

I hate to admit it, but everyone has moved on to the HD2. They have pretty much everything working on the HD2 but there is no developers working on the Rhodium and we have no sound yet.
I really thank all the devs and everyone else involved into making Android run on our Rhodiums, but we gotta face the truth someday. It was fun and I cook WinMo ROMs for the Rhodium, but we gotta realize its dated. The only reason I still have my Rhodium is because it has a keyboard. I'm waiting for a humming bird core HTC phone with QWERTY to make the upgrade. I know some people are gonna flame. Its OK I understand you want to hold on to that Rhodium you have. We ALL do.
PS: Its sad seeing craiglisters selling Android for the HD2. I wish I could kill them all. They don't deserve any money since they did not do any of the work involved nor did they contribute ONE thing. This is why I hate scenes like the smartphone scene... People take credit for what isn't theirs.

Keep doing what you do Reefer, I am patiently waiting for the next update!
I'm getting sick of threads on this, I'm sure devs do not appreciate them either..
Why you gotta be so negative? They are doing their best they can so why don't you lock yourself in the closet and come out of there once android has been fully ported to our device

I an getting a little woried that we have reached the point of no return. It would be helpfull if the devs did post updates to let use know where we stand. I am not giving up hope just yet. I can't upgrade for quite some time and don't want to pay out the nose for something that could give me just what I am looking for.
Just want so feedback from devs to know what's up?

Its funny, I bet there were people like you guys years ago for the Kaiser and Vogue... they work 100% now BTW. It doesnt mean people still use their Kaiser with Android for their daily phone (some do of course) but thats not what XDA is about. This used to be a strickly development forum, now its full of "gimme-gimme" users who think the OP of the thread is Customer Service.

Keep up the good work. Ignore the leeches. All they do is take. They dont realize that their purpose should be to test and return feedback on the testing. Instead they seem to think that this forum is like you said, full of customer service reps. Its pathetic.
Anyhow, there are tons of people who appreciate all of the developers work and look forward to more updates.
Yea Reefer, let em have it. I wish I could help more to unlock the potential of this phone. It really is a pretty slick device that just wasn't given enough polish or muscle. I researched the purchase of it for months beforehand and don't want to just give it up now.

No one thinks this is CS, i flash a rom, install a kernel and it messes something up. There is no one better to ask than the devs that made the rom, right????? BOOOYEAH
OP, there is work being done on the sound issue, however it is slow going. I try following the development, but it's WAY over my head.
Reefer for president !!!
agreed its completely dead i envy all the hd2 ppl running android
You are absolutely correct very dead. You should just get HD2s and give me your TP2s.
or pre-order ur 4g Epic.. thats what i did..

Wrong. they make a rom and put it on here for everyone. and lets say 50 people download it. and 25 of them have a problem with it. you realy thing that a dev has time to try and fix 25 peoples problems while at the same time make updates to the roms cause your demanding them? thats not how it works. if you install a rom and something goes wrong then you ask the 24 other people if any of them have had the same problem or found a fix. your a tester. if your getting the devs work for free. the least thing you could do is test it and let everyone know how it works.
Dated but not dead.
You may think its dead but for people who still own the TP2, like myself, would like to see this till the end. I still have another year with this phone before I can upgrade and I cant fork out 500+ dollars to buy a new one like the HD2 or Incredible. I'm sure there are others out there in the same situation. So just because you were able to move on with an upgrade doesn't mean its dead.
sound will be working in a matter of time acl is making head way on it over at ppcgeeks.

Possible S-off method for 4.4.2

Looks like mobiletechvideos has an s-off method that works.

Worth a look, I am stuck on 4.4.2 S-On myself.
What are your thoughts?

I was chatting with Josh from the site and the phone is actually taken apart and the JTAG method is used. Not sure if I will be able to do this, however, another member on here says he had success with this method from them.

I would use this with cation, taking apart the M7 is really difficult unless you have the HTC tool they use. ( haven't heard of anyone that really has this tool yet.)
if they do it the current method, the screen will break and they might be replacing it with a knock off if they have to get to the insides.
my $.02
Edit: quick google search yielded this:

Don't have my phone back from MTV yet, but Josh says he was successful. Will know for sure in a few days... Didn't want to wait until Aug for root and with the M8 out this week, figured a broken M7 would be a good excuse to upgrade ?. Hope this works tho. Will post as soon as I know more.

MODS: I come in peace. I work with and for the community for various projects, especially here on XDA. I have connection with many elite recognized developers and moderators on these forums and often work as a behind the scenes debugger for repairing bricked devices that are in BETA testing for free public solutions to benefit the community. This post is meant to be educational and to resolve questions about this service that has been raised. There are no DIY methods at this time or I'd be posting about that if so. Please contact me if you need references of such said developers before assuming I am a random bystander with bad intention.

No hard feelings at all for your cautious searching which is always encouraged when checking feedback on companies and people you may not know of! As for your edit with the BBB, we have been in business for around 4 years now. It's virtually impossible to not have something show up in the over 20,000 orders that we have done since that time. I'd urge people to see the literally thousands of positive references all over the WWW. Those 2 resolved scenarios were false positives where a customer could not reach us by phone on a weekend and quickly panicked. Just making a case for how it's impossible to keep a fingerprint free record especially online as we operate. It would almost be very odd to NOT have something show up with our amount of time in this business.
Now on to the fun stuff!
First off, I'd support a group buy of this as we did for the HTC Droid DNA about 1 year ago if someone heads up the original post for that as I will not be in charge of organizing such a thread due to conflicts of interest with this site and my business. If you are interested in that, the pricing will be better for all so please call me at 657-444-5824. The process is being done via JTAG and we have gotten very good at disassembling the phone. Contrary to the statement above your lcd is in no way compromised or broken as suggested. The device can be disassembled by skilled hands with virtually none to very little signs of entry. In most cases a user may not even be able to tell we opened the unit or the device will have some micro-entries near the volume button area which can only be seen within a 6 inch or less range. We even keep housings (new OEM) in stock just in case. The method is proven to work 100% for any HTC One with any OTA/RUU installed (yes even the 4.4.2 version). The video will easily display why this is currently not a DIY method. Don't worry you guys have some great devs that never stop cooking and I'm sure something will follow via USB. It could be weeks or it could be months. Until then, please don't shoot the messenger that is offering an S-OFF service as I work hard to even be able to produce these for the community!
Proof of concept video. By the way, @tomglass this is your device. Your phone is a star haha!

I'll be back in a week or two. Currently working out stuff for the M8, but I'll dig up my old VZW M7 files ;P.
For what it is worth, I removed my back cover last week to replace a faulty microphone, which is on the little board along with the charger port. Took me about 20 minutes, and as mentioned above, there is almost zero signs of disassembly. Proper tools are a must...

This is the first time hearing that the phone can be dismantled without the screen being destroyed. Kuttos to you guys. Its a hard process for sure. I retract my statement and apologize.
Second, I'm sorry for my overly cautious ways, I've seen to many members get duped into a good deal I tend to error on the side of caution. This is a great thing if you can successfully JTAG the One. I'm interested in the process and have worked with JTAG in the past.

This thread is extremely informative. Probably one of the most informative posts since the verizon 4.4.2 OTA came out. It sums up that there are services available to s-off. Pricey they may be, but to each their own. I love seeing developers and business owners come into the threads and explain in details. Hats off to mobile tech videos!
Sonic - it's good to see you back on the boards as well. Looking forward to an update from you regarding your services being renewed for the vzw HTC One :good:

It is shipping today with root and your requested TWRP recovery pre-installed!
Interesting video, and it makes me question why the One was rated almost impossible to repair by ifixit. I still wouldn't want to try, but for someone who knows what he's doing it doesn't seem too outrageous.
Maybe the video makes it look too easy.
I'm coming out of my hole to do this tomorrow. I see no bounty, so i hope everyone is generous enough to help beaups and I get the HTC M8.

If you/beatups release an exploit, I would be willing to donate to the fund for m8s.
The root exploit has been released.
Use weaksauce for temp root and firewater for s-off for htc one m7 on 4.4.2. Jcase just released it. Look up weaksauce.
