Trident Kraken and Aegis case for Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I guess Trident are working on some great cases for our nexus. The kraken case seems to stand out the most with a protector for the camera and some unique design on the sides of the phone.
Here are the links

Update:
Facebook response
Trident Case "We definitely gave some love to the Galaxy Nexus Fam. We will release the Aegis and Kraken AMS both during the last week of February. We will post it up, once its out."
Currently there out of stock and only at the EU store. And will be released in the US on the last week of February.

To be honest what i see so far( i recently just got a GN), we have already a few cases that fit that category. At the case wiki, i read some people happy with there cases that also have extended batteries. If your looking at Trident for slim cases, you should look else where since there pretty but an alternative of Otterbox cases. I believe you should check out the Seidio surface case(recommended), Mercury case(around 10 bucks) and the SGP case(expensive a bit), they both seem to fit your bill.

i had one of these for my droid x and they are awesome. phone looked brand new after 2 years of use, and i am hard on electronics

The trident cases are a wanna be outter box. I have a lot of experience with using them and working with both companies on the business side. My money would go to otter box everytime.

I wouldn't say that, I feel like they both bring competition in the rugged case department. But Trident has a great approach for bringing options to most phones with different colors and unique designs that at time are superior then Otterbox in protection. Im not saying Otterbox is not a good brand but sometimes they seem to focus too much on the apple devices and leave other device cases with less quality.

I disagree. I may not have the insight you do on the business side, but I think Trident makes a quality product. In some aspects better than Otterbox. I don't see how Trident is a wannabe Otterbox. They both offer great products. Just my opinion.

I would get one. I had an aegis case on the htc sensation and I was comfortable with it's looks and protection.

I wouldn't recommend look-a-like cases, this is because most look-a-likes while may provide atheistic look that some people seek but for the protection and overall quality can be lacking. For example looking for dual layer/triple layer case for the galaxy nexus gives you a Ballistic SG look alike case which may look nice due to color options but obvious feel of cheap plastic and rubber turns it off completely based on my personal experience with those cases. There's a reason why some cases are priced a bit high which just overall better quality and support.

Diztronic and CruzerLite fits the bill at only $9.90
I have both of them and both fits perfectly. Though I do prefer the feel of the Diztronic (in Black/Matte back)

Most of those reviews are "almost fits" or modded, etc. My defender actually broke when I put it on (they replaced it, nice folks). If this case you're linking actually officially supports the 2100 I will lean toward buying it. ICS blue is hot.

I'll pass on this, price is to expensive for me.

Does it fit the extended battery/cover?

I've been waiting for Trident to make a case for our phones for a while as I really like the distinctive rubbery feel of the cases.

Gotta agree. And the names for materials used get more and more ridiculous too.
"Ballistic shock absorbent polymer" you mean..silicones?
Thanks for sharing though
I love this case for the nexus s. I want to buy a pair of them for both me and the wife. I have the extended battery GSM and hers is the normal GSM. I'm sure they made it specifically for the Verizon model but I'd like to see a review testing it on the various models. You would think it would work on the extended Verizon model. If so, it should fit. Just don't want to plunk down money on two cases and have it not fit.
By the way, these cases are awesome for the nexus s. My wife is very hard on her phones, and this thing delivers on protection. Its not waterproof but other than that its great!

I like the way these cases look until I start using them on the phone. Good protection but just like the otterbox and toughcase I had they just add too much bulk. So I always wind up going back to my rearth ringke slim. But if you think these cases are too expensive, imagine the alternative when the case may have saved your phone? Just sayin...
I ordered it today as I personally like to have a few cases. I currently have the otterbox commuter as the daily case, but would like to have this ballastic case as a "heavy duty" case for outdoor activities and what not. From what I hear from nexus s and iphone users, these cases are life savers. Through I must admit Ballistic polymer sounds like a fancy name for abs plastic... marketing gimmick 101...LOL

I kind of like the extra bulk of the thick cases. The phone by itself almost feels too thin and too slippery in the hand without a case.
I'm currently using the Incipio case on my GSM Gnex and it feels just right.
134$ for shipping to denmark Are they fu****g crazy
OK... received my case today. I got it for about 20 bucks from amazon. Its the genuine item. The case is similar to the one for the nexus s.
I emailed ballistic about the fit of the case since I have a GSM with extended battery. They told me that it won't fit either GSM or Verizon with the extended battery. I mainly got it for my wife who doesn't have the extended battery but wanted to check the fit on mine.
It fits! It fits just fine on GSM extended models. Fit and finish is nice like all ballistic cases but this one smelled like a dirty suitcase. Im sure the smell will go away but I don't remember my nexus s case smelling like that.
The case feels good in the hand but does add a lot of bulk so not a thin option. Great drop protection though.

I got my Ballastic case today and I am pleased to say it fit my GSM just fine...no issues. And mine has no odor or smell whatsoever. Overall, the design reminds me a LOT of the OB commuter case, except for the trade mark bulky edges on the ballastic. The overall silicone is thinner than I had expected, but the case looks great for a thicker case IMO. The button cut outs are right on the money, unlike my commuter. There are no dust covers for the ports, so perhaps the commuter has the edge in terms of dust protection, but some people find those silicone flaps annoying to open, so it depends on the person.
Why is this case not getting more play? Its the best tough case out there for this phone and its 30 bucks on Amazon. Go go go
I'll take some pics tomorrow. No videos though

Thats one ugly m0th*rf**ker, if you think you need that to protect your phone, leave it at home, you'll never get a scratch. 34$ for a good looking case, complementing the looks of the phone no problem, paying 34$ for a cheap silicone case: priceless.

Well beauty is in the eye of the beholder. I currently use the sgp Neo hybrid and it does look nice, but some people need more protection than that. If you think the commuter, defender, or kraken cases look good either then you're crazy. They are what they are to protect the function of the phone. Btw, the ballistic is not just cheap silicone. The base part is silicone, then poly carbonate shell, and a rubberized coating on the shell. Also, those bumpers do an awesome job absorbing impact.

it's good looking case, and easy to remove from when you need it..
I personally use the otter box commuter case with Ghost Armor screen protection. Both work very well, the case doesn't increase the weight noticeably and retains a thin profile. One tiny issue is the rubber liner attracts lint, but not bad enough to bother me.

Yeah it attracts lint. Gets kind of frustrating. Compatible with extended battery too. I'm buying the Rearth Slim case to try it out, it's apparently very low-profile.
One thing that I dislike about the Otterbox Commuter is the lack of grip when compared to other cases such as the Case-mate tough case though.

i agree, out of all my cases the otter was the worst because of how slippery it was and it made the phone very bulky. if you dont want your phone to be too thick def dont get this case it will almost double the thickness of your phone.
i have been buying case, skin, an screen protector. in the end, running naked still the best. no case no screen protector.
I'm using the OtterBox Commuter case. And I really love the quality, and my phone is very protected in it. The downside is that it makes the phone really bulky and thick. So I'm gonna replace it soon I think, and use the OtterBox when I need the extra protection.
Searched alot for other cases on ebay, but they all seem so cheap and low quality. Found, and ordered, this though. Hope it's good when it arrives. It's made of aluminium and metal.

You will probably have reduced reception. A plain ole simple tpu is a great balance between protection and thickness.
bow chicka wow wow.
i spent $500 on this phone, i'd like to keep it in perfect condition. i'll sacrifice the few mm of extra thickness for piece of mind that it won't get smashed.
With a case on, you can't see the phone.
So you will also see no scratches.
Put it on when you dropped it

Otterbox Top Quality
I've owned three Commuter cases (for Samsung Captivate, Infuse, and Note) and you can't beat them for the protection.
The only issues I have had are how the clips are attached to the plate. Twice I've had them break on me, BUT, Otterbox has been very prompt at sending me a FREE replacement. I also have to say that each time I was leaning in such a way that I was putting pressure on the belt clip, so I can't entirely fault the clip. Since they replaced it (promptly), I have no negative feelings.
Although they are a bit pricey, you can definitely see why they do cost more. I would HIGHLY recommend them. They give your phone top-notch protection. :good:
I bought the case today and compared to the case mate tough this provides much more protection however it does the phone slippery due to the hardcover having minimal grip. The biggest gripe I have with this case is the power and volume rockers are really difficult to press and I have contacted otterbox about it and just awaiting reply now.

great review, I have been searching for a gal s3 specific otterbox review and haven't found any... until now.
That is an issue re the lovely sleek lithe lines of the s3 being covered and ruined by protection, but as has been said, thats the trade off i guess.
I am having a really hard time deciding between a few cases. Bought the invisible skin full body protector (it's my goto scratch protection despite niggles with it) and that will sit beneath any case I buy. May have to take the rear skin off to fit but will cross that bridge...
Fancied a defender but the built in screen protector bothers me as I am worried about it fading and misting over time, where as the commuter does allow for the separate screen skin which then can be removed and replaced independently if required.
Would really like the defender but it is increasingly looking like the commuter will be the best solution :/
I just picked the Aegis off eBay for $26 shipped. Good case so far.

I would buy from the official site to be safe.

Yeah noticed the box looked different. Most likely they are replicas.
Plus the official site gives you all the good detailed order status. If you create account that is.
Immediately got a confirmation email as well.

Yes it adds bulk.... Any case that offers top level protection well add bulk.
Otterbox defender
Trident kraken
Seidio Obex
Ballistic SG jazz and the HC series (coming soon)
And this case.
All add bulk.
You give up the sleek thin design for mil spec protection.

I just ordered one as well!
I find that the OtterBox cases aren't as well designed as Griffin's Survivor's. Seems that the Griffin team does a better job designing cases, a lot more thoughts go into designing the Survivor cases than the Defenders. Griffin's marketing term is "over engineered".
I've got cases from both companies, for various devices (iPhone 4, iPhone 5, iPad, iPad 3) from both companies and from my personal observation… Griffin's cases are a lot more articulate. For instance, the iPhone 5 Defender case (by OtterBox)'s bottom area are somewhat more exposed than Griffin's, allowing moisture to come into contact with the phone. In the Griffin Survivor iPhone 5, it's got this thin membrane that covers the speakers and mic holes.
The thing I find different about Griffin's more recent cases (mid-2012 models) are exponentially more complicated to put on than the OtterBox cases. Perhaps this is a good thing, as you're not expected the case off your phone very often.
Griffin's design philosophy is rather different than OtterBox's. Griffin's approach is to take the device and insert it into a plastic frame, then wrap silicone shell, and then securing the entire "assembly" with front-plate that protects the face of the device.
Different from the OtterBox, where you place the device into a two-piece plastic frame that snaps together, then lastly wrapping it with a silicone shell. I should also mention, that the design on most OtterBox cases are less "water-proof" than Griffin's.
In the iPhone 5's Defender, the camera cutout at the back is exposed; while with the Griffin's Survivor the camera perfectly covered with a flap. Now, back in the iPhone 4/4S model, this is actually an annoyance as you've got to hold the frap with your finger as you're taking a picture. With the more recent Survivor models, they've redesigned this and made the flap pivot to the base frame. Yes, it can be an annoyance if you wanna take pictures really quick (having to open the flap, etc.) but heh… I like Griffin's approach better. This applies to the Galaxy SIII Survivor case as well. If you compare the photos on Griffin's product page, you can see that the back part of the Survivor case perfectly covers the camera + flash, using a flap.
The aesthetics… well, this is a subjective topic. I do find the mid-2012 OtterBoxes cases are more sleek looking than Griffin's Survivor. Griffin's Survivor does remind me of Master Chief though, especially because of that Squareish bumps, hexagonal texture. It's a lot more military looking than OtterBox's.
Where OtterBox wins is the design on their holster. Griffin's holster design is very minimal, as it barely covers any surface.
To put it short, Griffin's Survivor cases covers more of your phone's surface area more than OtterBox's.
One last note: Griffin's silicone shell is also a lot thicker than OtterBox's. I find it a lot more cushioning. But it's also a lot bulkier than OtterBox.
Damn, I should do a full on comparison.
Didn't see an answer to this question. How is the screen protector? Is it the same material as the otterbox defender?

Best Rugged case

So I'm waiting on my OnePlus 3T. Other than that the overpriced Otterbox and what's OK Amazon, has anyone found a good rugged case that doesn't add a lot of bulk to the phone? Thanks.

I found this Orzly's case so good, maybe too width for you though. Look up for "Orzly® Grip-Pro Case" (XDA does not allow me to share links yet)

Some people might say that an Otterbox case is overpriced. While I agree that they are certainly costly compared to other cases out there, they do offer some pretty good protection. I see it like this... Some people get insurance on their phone because they know that one day they might need to make a claim and get a replacement phone. Me personally, I've never had insurance on a phone and have also never broken a phone. So instead of paying a monthly fee for something that might happen, I pay a one time fee to ensure that I'm getting good protection on a costly device. With that said I do have an Otterbox case for my OnePlus 3T and so far it's been great.
You can take a look at Poetic Cases. I'm rocking now the Revolution on my Moto Z Play, model made for Z Force, and I can tell you, for under 20$, u cannot find other 2 pieces case with protection on display, some plastic. The plastic will scratch easily but in the end, not the shell worth, just the nucleus . It's a little bulky, steady in hands and the back piece is made from hard plastic and the edges of it from some nice good TPU.
Sorry for my bad english skills. Hope you got the ideea.
anyone thinking about rhinoshield? (https://rhinoshield.io/collections/oneplus-3)
I saw a video on youtube where a dude using this bumper case on his 3, tried getting the phone damaged by dropping the phone from various heights. the phone was unscathed even after falling from 22 ft (2 storey up). however in general usage, the phone will (likely) not be falling from a 2 storey building but a user's pocket height, so the case seems good. however, at 25 USD, it feels a bit pricier. but i guess that's a better protection/weight tradeoff than most fully phone covers.
what's your opinion guys?
I use a Spigen Neo Hybrid Case on my 3T and I love it!!!
Good protection yet slim (adds 3,25mm thickness) and beautiful!
For my eyes it is the best looking case out there that adds enough protection.
And even the price is not bad with 14,99 Euro here in Germany or I think $17,99 on amazon.com.

I have this case. Works well, and will work with the oneplus 2 holster from Seidio if you are so inclined. Also works with the TGSP without causing the edges to lift up.
Definitely would recommend and second the spigen case.

The faux carbon fiber look at the top is great too, gives a D-Brand kind of feel to it.

Could you give me precise measurement of the case (with calipers )? I'm currently using a Tudia Merge (rugged dual layer) and I find it kinda wide and thick (that's what she said...). This Spigen looks good, but I don't want to spend yet another $10-$15 if they're the same.

Oh, I didn't think about that. Sometime they do put them a bit smaller than real life, but I guess I can still get an idea about it.

It's covering the microphone on the back!
The answer is OtterBox always. I have it in black and it feels awesome. Best protective case.
Picked up the Otterbox when I ordered my phone. Not sure how $25 is considered overpriced for the protection you want.
You get what you pay for.
