I'm a brand new Galaxy Nexus owner! Actually I bought it for my girlfriend; there's no way I could give up my Note. Anyone know how to get this thing set up on Page Plus? The first thing they asked for is an ESN or MEID #, so I pulled the battery and there's only an IMEI # listed. The customer service rep said they can't do anything without an ESN or MEID; but then how does it work on Verizon? If it works with Verizon, it should work with Page Plus.
I'm starting to worry now, because I also just found a thread here where they're trying the same thing but stuck because they can't find the diagnostic menu for manual programming. Anyone know anything about that? Now that I have it in my hands, I reallllly want to get it working!!!

And why did you decide to go for the Verizon version and go with Page Plus? You'd be better off getting the GSM version anyway and using that. There are many many many more MVNO and prepaid options if you just bought GSM. Its not like you were going to get LTE on any prepaid network anyways. Buying a Galaxy Nexus and parking it on EVDO is kinda ****ty.
That being said, looks like you're gonna have to do some research on this one. My guess is theres an issue because Verizon activates and registers phones on their network using the LTE SIM, rather than traditional CDMA methods (afaik).
Err...Verizon uses the MicroSIM. It contains an MEID number, so it can easily be attached to the network when it's plugged in.
Also, the CDMA/LTE Nexus is carrier-locked, so even if you had an MEID number it wouldn't be allowed on Page Plus' network.
Did you seriously spend $650 without even doing a minute of research?
It was a great deal I couldn't pass up: $300! (though it does have a little road rash on the bottom edge.) That's why I bought it right away without first doing the research. I'm sure I can re-sell it if I have to, but I'd really rather not.
After posting I went to About in settings and found that it does have an MEID #, which happens to be the same as the IMEI, but missing the last digit.
So there's no unlock for it yet? I assumed that it being google's Android flagship would mean almost immediate root and unlock.

But its a CDMA phone... Just resell it and buy the GSM model. Save yourself the trouble.
Do you think it might help if I went by a Verizon store and got a SIM card?

How are you gonna convince them to do that when you have no indication whatsoever of signing a contract or using their service? lol.
And that still doesn't remove the fact that it registers on the network with the SIM, which Page Plus (in my reading) does not do, as they don't have LTE.

I figured I'd do some sweet talking... And maybe ask to get set up for Verizon prepaid.
So are you saying if you're in an area where Verizon hasn't yet rolled out LTE the GNexus won't fall back to CDMA or EV-DO, or whatever those non GSM people use?

Of course it will. It does EVDO and LTE. Not everywhere has LTE yet. What I'm saying is why deal with EVDO (you'll never get LTE on Page Plus) when you could have HSPA+ with the GSM model.

Page Plus's network is Verizon's network. (though I don't think LTE is included. People on AT&T MVNOs (such as straight talk) regularly get SIM cards from AT&T stores to fix service issues...
I found these guys who claim to flash all sorts of devices including Android for Page Plus, and they have a huge Galaxy Nexus picture front and center; I contacted them and hope it's not false advertising.

Yes its the same network, I'm aware of how an MVNO works... what I'm saying is Page Plus doesn't activate phones using SIM cards because it doesn't have LTE or that system in place, whereas Verizon does. Which leads to issues.
Just makes more hurdles. As I said, you're going through extra trouble to just get a EVDO-stuck Galaxy Nexus. But that's your choice...

If you (really) ended up with a used, slightly damaged Verizon Galaxy Nexus for that price, and can't use it without signing a contract with Verizon. I say you're pretty much screwed since the price of Verizon's Galaxy Nexus just went down to $99 only.

Thank you for taking the time to comment in my thread. I started it with hopes of generating conversation that could lead to clues on overcoming the hurdles of putting the GNex on Page Plus. I don't need suggestions for other courses of action; my girlfriend is very happy with Page Plus (and the Verizon network) where she travels for work. I wanted to get her a new phone, the best one that'll work on Page Plus, and I found a smoking deal on it so I bought it.
So what it won't achieve LTE speeds; there's still many other things to like about it, and nothing else will achieve LTE on Page Plus, either. It's a perfectly good plan; not everyone's willing to pay twice as much or more just for LTE, but may still want a top notch phone.
I'll give it a week or two then sell it if nobody can figure out diagnostics mode on it, but I have high hoped.
And if it took paying $50, it'd still be dirt cheap compared to going to Verizon! You'd make that money back and then some on the first month with Page Plus instead of Verizon!

Oh, it'd move. Looking at completed listings on Ebay and craigslist offerings, I'm pretty sure it'd be snatched up rapidly at $300. $99 is with 2-year commitment and those subsidies tend to translate to street value around $350 (i.e. that's the discount you get for signing a contract.) Anyways, I have a habit of giving old devices to friends/family.
Edit: especially with the terms/conditions Amazon puts on top of Verizon's in the contracts...
Edit 2: of course neither I nor anyone else would have to sign a Verizon contract on this phone, since the original guy who got the subsidized price did it.

I highly doubt anyone is doing much research on this, since it's such a rare request. Most people will just get the GSM model, if they do not want to use Verizon.
If you have a local shop willing to do this for you, I recommend contacting them - but I wouldn't pay a cent until you've verified functionality.

I am doing my own research too cause I too own a Verizon Galaxy nexus, and want to get it working with my local carrier in Mexico. Still looking to get it in diagnostic mode but wit no possitive results yet. As always, there will be a solution, but as things are going until now, it could take some time to appear.
And as yomuppet says, dont pay a cent until you see the thing workin!
I'd pay the 50 bucks to get it flash by that website or another site called beige something...
Otherwise you need CDMA workshop.
Look up HTC Thunderbolt on pageplus on these forums and you'll find a video on how to do it on that fone. I image it would be similar process for the sammy

I totally understand original posters issue. I like the nexus and would like to get one but I too am a happy pageplus customer and would like to see if there's a way to make it work. Lame that people can't address the issue at hand but instead try to ridicule your decision. I tried setting up the droid charge (also a 4g lte phone) on pageplus but with no success - and ended up selling it. And yes, I walked into the verizon store and asked and they just gave me a sim card. but it still wouldn't register - and I also gave them the imei #minus the last digit. Too bad... I really like the new lte phones but I haven't seen many of then work on pageplus yet. If anyone figures it out, please post it here.

No, I'm not asking when/if the Incred is gonna hit Sprint.
Due to a falling out with Verizon, I'm now with Sprint, and would like to bring the $300 phone over to them (even if I would love to get my hands on an Evo). Now, considering I've never even considered taking an unlocked phone and dropping it onto another provider, I was hoping someone here in the forums may know whether or not it is possible to do so.
I mean, they're both CDMA and Sprint does use Verizon's towers...
It's not possible sadly. Not for any technical reasons, there are no issues there, but Sprint won't activate a phone's ESN number that's not in their system. The ESN contains the model number/vender/etc. Being that this phone is a VZW-exclusive, there really isn't a lot you can do... sorry =/.

HTC is known for releasing phones that are better than and similar to other carriers versions, so i'd try to hold out, HTC releases phones every other month or so too. You can still use the phone as a Wifi only device atleast so its not entirely useless.
also, from the sound of it DeeBG, the ESN seems to be the same as a VIN for a car, didn't know the ESN contained all that info, i thought it was just an id like a MAC I.D. on wireless devices.
As far as them not activating the ESN, a while back they were part of the Open Handset Alliance, as was Verizon, and T-Mobile was also in there, and as far as i've read, Verizon is the only carrier that left it.
An H-SPL* unlocked HTC Touch Pro 2 with Windows Mobile from Verizon can be made to work on Sprint, its just that the 3G won't work (just to give an example)
*H-SPL is the equivelant of Root on Android, except on Windows Mobile OS

You're chances are about as good as Janet Reno winning a Miss America pageant. Sprint will not activate it as the MEID is not in their database nor would they even remotely entertain the idea of adding it as they can not support it if there are problems.
anything is possible but you are then on your own with no warranty or support from sprint. if you search around you can find how to do it but it is not easy and really not worth it unless you enjoy messing around with programming phones.
best bet is to ebay your INC and get an EVO on sprint. you'll probably come out ahead money wise anyway.
I say try activating it online. It wouldn't hurt to try. Can't speak for Sprint, but I've activated an old MotoQ from Sprint on Verizon's network within the last 6 months or so. So, I at least know Verizon does it. Or maybe they both carried the same phone at one point. But, trying doesn't hurt.

Hi guys, my mother work at the airport of montreal and several days ago she find a HTC Evo 4G. She try to join the person impossible because there's a pattern to draw. She bring it back home since it was totaly impossible to call anyone and that no one call. That HTC is from spring and spring are in the USA at the beginning i tought that we could just replace the sim card, but I discover that this phone has no sim card on it. Now here is my question. Is there a way to pull out the sim card or is there a way to remove the lock that is set on it ?

DISCLAIMER: I work for a vendor for Verizon tech, so I do know this stuff, but I am not speaking on behalf of Verizon Wireless in any way, all this knowledge is my own, for your personal benefit.
The EVO is a CDMA/Wimax phone. CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) is a totally different technology than GSM (Global System for Mobile Communications). CDMA phones do NOT utilize SIM cards. The only phones that are CDMA that have a SIM card are Verizon's 4G LTE phones (and the sim card is for the 4G radio in an LTE phone). Make sense? CDMA = no sim card, ever, cannot work overseas (i.e. Verizon and Sprint). GSM = yes, these phones use SIM cards. AT&T and T-Mobile are both GSM, as are most networks outside the U.S.
Fun fact: CDMA is a more secure connection and cannot be "tapped into" or "hacked" as easily as GSM.
Edit: Yes, Verizon has phones that can use both Cdma/Gsm connections, but there are very few. I am not sure if Sprint has any, but the EVO is certainly not one of them.
Also no one could help you out for the fact that would be stealing. Also the person that lost the phone can have the location sent to their gmail if they know what to do. Otherwise it should remain in lost and found so when the person call to see if its there they can find it.

Umm yeah, what you are asking is stealing, and is illegal. Either take the phone to a sprint store, or take the battery out, write down the esn, and call sprint at 888-211-4727 and tell them you found the phone, they will ship you a box to send it back to them.

A lot of people are saying its the best phone they've ever used.
It has vanilla android with a Motorola launcher I believe.
All bloatware is uninstallable.

yeah definitely just call sprint and have them walk you through it although the guy from verizon has a point it wont do you any good unless you are living in the US since the phone will never ever pick up any signal overseas

I'm currently on Verizon. I left T-Mobile way back when to get the Incredible and upgraded to the GNEX the day it became available. I carried over my unlimited data and now I'm just a little pissed I have to give it up (or pay full price or pay for an extra line).
I've been out of the loop for some time, but browse the forums enough to hear people complain about the CDMA phones (mostly been with the GNEX). The One is offered on Verizon and T-Mobile and now I'm able to stay and upgrade or leave and go elsewhere.
I've had and loved T-Mo before. Their service here is just as good as Verizon. I also enjoy their surf the net while you talk (mom can rambe sometimes).
But I can find a plan with either one...
Should I get away from Verizon's phones for a T-mobile. Is it easier to unlock/root/ROM? Is there more support for those things (Dev working on new updates)?

The Verizon HTC One is newer and will not have root or a bootloader unlock immediately, but considering the T-Mobile HTC One has been around for months now, it most likely has a working root. If you stay with Verizon we will most likely get a root and bootloader unlock within a week or two. It's your choice. Which carrier do you prefer? Why did you pick Verizon in the first place if coverage is the same?

I left verizon for the G1 on T-Mobile then left T-Mobile for the HTC Incredible. Since I have my eye on the One and can get it on either I wanted to know which provider (or version of phone actually) would be better,
I'm sure someone will come up with something for the Verizon version, I just wanted to know which would have more support for ROMs and such in the future. With my GNEX, it always seemed the GSM version had more and quicker updates.
I really don't prefer one over the other, but I guess I'm just upset Verizon won't let me keep my Unlimited and T-Mobile offers it still.

I left T-Mobile and I will NEVER go back. They offer the ability to upgrade faster because their service sucks.

Bootloader unlock already works per dev. forum.
I tried T-Mobile and the coverage in my area was terrible and was forced to switch back to Verizon. Just be careful and really check that coverage map!

I know Verizon is great as far as coverage, but I know T-Mobile isn't bad in my area either.
I just really want to know if there will be developers that care about this version like I'm sure they are with the GSM version.
I am glad to see that it's unlockable (for now). That puts even more of a time crunch as I'm sure Verizon will have an OTA out there to kill that soon....
I did 2 months of t-mobile prepaid just to test our their new LTE network in my area (San Jose Bay Area, CA). I have 2 verizon lines, 1 for work and 1 for person.
Yesterday, I officially terminated my personal Verizon line and moved the number to T-Mobile. While T-Mobile's 3G/4G HSPA reception is shotty, their LTE network in San Jose is extremely solid and robust, especially considering how new it is.
Just my thoughts and opinions.
I just switched from Verizon to T Mobile, I tested it out for a week before I ported my line. T Mobile is just as fast here in Chicago and about $50 lower a month than Verizon. If you travel I would probably stick with Verizon. I just went from Chicago to NJ and had terrible to no signal through OH & PA.
I have used both carriers. In my opinion Verizon has the best coverage, but t mobile has the cheapest plan. When I was with Verizon I paid 130 a month and right know I'm only paying 70 a month for t mobile for unlimited everything.

All 4g data can run while on a call regardless of carrier. 3g was limited to resound and thunderbolt on verizon

To be honest, I just figured this out last night as I was on hold on a call and answering emails. I remember I wasn't able to do that at one point, and never even noticed the change. The commercials come to mind of other carriers making fun of Verizon not being able to do that so I never even tried. Since at work and at home (if not on wifi) I'm usually only a 3G signal anyway if it worked I wouldn't have noticed. And I live/work in Norfolk VA which is not exactly the middle of nowhere. Maybe my GNEX just sucks...... I dont know. This is a congested area though so maybe that's why?
I went to both last night. The guy that helped me at Verizon was reason enough to quit them and never go back. The entire time I had to talk over his football game on his iPhone. Had it connected to a speaker and had it on full blast. I actually had to repeat myself numerous times... a**hole. He made it quite clear I was a nuisance to him.
I know I'm comparing two different phones and I'm sure any other radio out now will blow away whatever is on my GNEX, but speedtest on Verizon was low teens while T-Mobile was constantly over 20 on the One
I may just make the switch. If I travel I can use wifi if I don't have service. Every McDonalds and Starbucks has it, so I'm not worried (those are EVERYWHERE :laugh. and either way, I believe I'll just buy the phone outright.
I guess I still have the question of GSM vs CDMA. Since Google is pushing the updates for the GSM version, would that be the way to go?
Sorry for the stupid questions, I just don't want to make the decision to realize it was the wrong one. Other's advice is always appreciated.
buy T-Mobile. It runs same roms as universal so development will always be more. And if tmo had service as good as Verizon here, I'd be on it. It's so much cheaper.

If you was one of the lucky few when the HTC one was first launched then you was able to unlock through HTC dev before Verizon issued the stop. Now if you want an unlocked bootloader you need to find a person like sonic with a java card to unlock your phone for a fee.
Now some has said there are devs who possibly found an exploit but are waiting until Verizon updates the phone to 4.3 so they can't patch the exploit right off the bat.

If your service is the same, then t-mobile is clearly the better choice. However if you plan on moving around at all, I'd be very wary of t-mobile. I too left verizon for t-mobile once and went back because Verizon had superior coverage. T-mobile was great in most areas, except where they weren't. Verizon was always good, everywhere coverage wise
So my gf has a Galaxy SIII from sprint, w no sim card. I have an at&t contract with two lines. I called AT&T and they replaced the IMEI for my 2nd line, to the IMEI of her SIII. Well obviously it's not that easy bc the **** don't work lol. I don't even know where to start, and don't bother telling me to "read the forums" bc I did and it's all gibberish to me anyway. Long story short I don't have any sim cards, never did. Not for my two htc one mini's through AT&T nor her SIII. Her SIII is running 4.1.2, which if i read some of the other posts right, it means it's impossible to transfer her phone to AT&T? I guess for starters is it even possible to bring a 4.1.2 SIII onto AT&T service? AT&T already changed the IMEI to her SIII, for whatever that's worth....
And on a side note, the SIII is completely stock from the manufacturer, aside from having the most current updates (Firmware etc). And I would like to emphasize that I have no access to any kind of "sim" card, nor will I ever. If there is a way to connect a Sprint SIII to the AT&T network, the method absolutely can not involve sim cards, and must be able to be done on a completely updated S3.
The last time I ever messed with the internals of a phone was back when the LG Ally was first released, and I did a one touch root, so I could use Verizons data through a WiFi hotspot, and not have to pay for a hotspot data package. So other than that I have not one pinch of knowledge or experience in this, as I've never had the need for it until now. I can follow instructions, but every single thread I've found on this site is so mind numbingly vague, it may as well read "insurt teh usb, do teh magix stuff, unplugs teh usb, ta-da!" And I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just trying to put into perspective how absolutely lost i am.
I tried the *# code in the dialer, and nothing. (probably bc i have NO sim cards)
I called AT&T and had them change the IMEI on my second line to the Sprint SIII
I read countless novel length threads on here, all of them seemingly useless.
I went to the sprint store to have them unlock it, they refused, naturally.
There is not an AT&T retail location for MANY miles, not like they'd be helpful anyway I assume...
I'm just stuck, all these threads do not apply to me, but I'm sure there's a way... There has to be.
To be able to connect the phone to the AT&T network you have to have a SIM card, without SIM you will never get to connect to the AT&T network. Your best bet would be to check here or craigslist to see if someone might be willing to exchange phones. or to purchase or upgrade to a phone with a SIM card slot, no sim card slot no service with AT&T.
I'm not a dev but I can tell you this.
1. Please do not insult one of the best source for Android development because you refuse to read the stickies and tutorials.
2. I'm sorry but a CDMA only Sprint Galaxy S3 does not have the necessary hardware to use AT&T's network. Though you state there must be a way you are unfortunately wrong in this case.
3. Prepare to get flamed and possibly have this thread closed.
4. You should try a Sprint MVNO or other CDMA based phone company like Boost, Virgin Mobile, etc.
5. I feel sorry if by girlfriend's phone you mean you bought a hot phone off someone.

We're not here to flame, he has a legitimate question and simply needs an answer. Bit1 is right it's a CDMA phone and won't work with AT&T. It's very unfortunate but you won't get it to work. Your best bet now is to resell it as a CDMA phone and purchase the AT&T version.
Well, I guess that solves that, lol. Yeah I did some foot work around the city, talked to several retailers and a couple techs, learned a lot more a lot quicker. So yeah it basically comes down to the radio being in a completely different band/freq wtfe than AT&T uses. (The whole CDMA and the other deal). I mean the IMEI isn't locked, the phone isn't "hot". She's behind $250 on her sprint bill and now has a $300 paperweight, so I was trying to add the phone to my AT&T plan. Anywho, thanks for clearing this up. As far as trying to sell the thing, I saw a kiosk with a used S3 for $280? Is there even a market for S3's? They don't exactly seem like the "in" thing anymore if you catch my drift. My next question would be, if I sold the phone to someone who wanted to use it on the Sprint network, can they use it? More specifically I know they lock IMEI's if they're reported stolen/lost, but would they do it for not making a bill payment? (She hasn't used the thing/had service in over a month now...) My goal really is to figure out what to do with the thing. Best Buy offered $150 for an S3, but I don't know if the IMEI is good or not : / The screen is cracked so i was going to get a $15 one off EBay, fix it, and sell it. My concern is on selling the thing, should I make the $15 investment and chance not being able to sell the thing? I use Samsung Pay and GearVR, and I'd rather not root my phone. I use between 10-20GB/month.
Some people say that "unlocked" doesn't matter anymore - that the carrier SIM will make it a Verizon device no matter where I buy the phone. Is that true?
I'm ready to upgrade from my S6 to the S9 or S9+ (I want to keep my S6). Should I purchase through Samsung, Verizon, Amazon, Best Buy? Does it matter, or should I just go with the cheapest deal I can find?
I plan on going straight through Samsung on a monthly payment plan. They should offer some type of a device trade in program so I can trade in my sons Moto Z and maybe get a couple hundred knocked off. My son can have my Pixel XL and I'll get the 9+.

Being that your on Verizon, I wouldn't get an unlocked S9/S9+. I had an unlocked S8+ and I couldn't use Wi-Fi calling when I travelled internationally. I go to a lot of Caribbean islands and I couldn't call my family back home unless they had what's app.
I'm going to order through Samsung for a a Verizon version. I think that's the best option instead of unlocked.

You know thats a good point! I was originally looking maybe at an unlocked version but... having WiFi calling when out of the states is nice feature without spending $$$ on a separate international plan at the time.

That's a good point - glad you mentioned it. However, I am rarely out of the country, so I'm wondering if it's still in my best interest to have an unlocked phone.

I know this was the case with the S8+. I'm going to make sure that I confirm it with Samsung and Verizon. The unlocked version is cheaper than getting from Verizon.

Samsung is reading right. Though from Verizon/AT&T they have the higher price at $930/915 respectfully. So that being said it would potentially bring it lower than Samsung.
Best Buy says to get their discount there needs to be a qualified activation. Not sure but that sounds like you need to start a new line of service with the carrier. I have a plan already, don't need another. I'm with AT&T and am going to go with the carrier's model of the phone. HD calling or volte might or might not work with an unlocked model depending on whether or not they decide to activate it for you but WiFi calling won't work unless you have the AT&T model. WiFi calling is nice for out of country use, my family also spends some time in an area without cell service but WiFi is available. When I realized my wife had wifi calling on her iphone I was jealous. My Pixel didn't work. I like the features, security of the new phones. I think I'm done worrying about carrier apps, bootloaders and root. It's been quite a while since I modded a phone and improved on the stock configuration. I know, this is XDA but it's getting pretty hard to improve on this year's phones. My P2XL is still stock & I'm very happy with it like that.

Talking with BB reps so far, their qualified activation doesn't seem to be like anything. Can be a new line or current at least thats what I've been told so far and that is what they are expecting.
For the BB pricing though found this out and might only still refer to the Pre-Order period. S9+ will be $100 off still after the 2nd, and S9 will be $50 off after the 2nd. No clue how long it lasts after that though but its what I was able to get out of the rep today. Also talking around no luck at getting at least Verizon to honor the BB discount so... well really its not to much tough luck for them since they still get money.

Of all the confusing possibilities I've heard, I have not heard anyone say that an unlocked phone will have wifi calling on Verizon - basically everyone says wifi calling does not work on an unlocked phone...

This is true on AT&T phones. You won't get wifi calling unless you have an AT&T phone. Can't speak for Verizon. Can't speak for the S9 at all since we don't have any user feedback but I doubt the carrier bonus features will change.
The unlocked version will not get visual voice mail on Verizon. That is a no go for me. All one has to do is look at the status of the unlocked S8 on verizon for confirmation. Nothing is different here. In fact Verizon has recently stated it will temporarily stop selling it's own branded phones unlocked. The Verizon price of the phones are almost $100 over what the Samsung retail is and also the most of any carrier. lucky us. I don't need a new activation so I don't get the $100 off best Buy deal. So I pay the inflated rate at no discount and no offers. nada. Basically stuck. Oh well.. such is life.

You didn't need to start a new line. I'm trading in my S8+ for the S9+ with Best Buy and I got the $100 off. I'm not starting a new line, just upgrading my current. They just make you activate it in the store.
Call up the cancelation department and threaten to cancel to ATT. When they ask if they can do anything for you let them know they can offer you the phone and keep your GUDP. Worked for me.

I went with the unlocked from Samsung. So far, any issues I have would probably exist on the Verizon version as well (mainly minor quirks that I have to find workarounds for).
For some reason, it has been more difficult to force the camera shutter to silent. I have a Tasker task that always worked with S6 - when camera is opened, silence all audio. But with the S9, sometimes the "System Volume" will be stuck at full. It's grayed-out and I cant' change it. Not sure what's causing that. If I reboot, I can adjust everything again. At first, I thought maybe the unlocked version couldn't silence the camera shutter, but that's not the case. I can silence it sometimes. Gotta figure out why it gets stuck at full volume sometimes, though.
Yeah, I think that's the route I'm going to do as well. Plus they'll give me $200 for my current phone
