What case do you use? - Atrix 4G Accessories

What is a good minimal case for the Atrix?
I care more about feel than protection.

If you use or are going to be using any of the docks, don't bother with an actual case. Too much of a pain to deal with every time you dock and undock (I used to think otherwise!).
I took mine off because it now just goes between my desk or pocket and the vehicle dock.
That said, if you are not using a dock, this case from Seido is rock-solid and looks great, Comes in several colors, this one just happens to match my roadster.
(while I really wouldn't characterize this case as "minimal," compared to an Otter Box, it is!)

I've been using a Seidio Surface for about a week:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=mobile&field-keywords=seidio+surface+atrix
Very impressed with the quality of this case which feels good and is very slimline and lightweight yet still sturdy.
You'll find video reviews of the case on Youtube which may be helpful.
The added advantage for you living in the US is you will only have to pay about half the amount I did to get one posted over here to the UK!

I was using an otterbox.. But i find it makes it hard to swipe at the edges of the phone so I'm back to being bare

I had a Speck candy shell case for awhile, but I found it made the screen smudge when I would try to clean it so I took it off.

I use Body Glove that I got at the at&t store. I've loved it from the start. I don't know how good it is for protection, but I like that iit doesn't feel like it'll slip out of your hand and it's easy to take off (miui ROM makes me have to battery pull sometimes.)

This is the exact case I'm using on my Atrix too! I love this case, I even got the same color hahaha. I like that it doesn't hinder the fingerprint scanner in any way. and the grip on it is solid.

nothing special but does it's job

Incipio feather, but they keep cracking. Even though the company is great and has already sent me replacements twice.
I have ordered these now

Doesn't really qualify as a "case" as such, but a full body kit from Zagg definitely qualifies as minimal. I take pretty good care of my phones and hate the extra bulk in my pocket so it works for me. Having said that, these don't help much in a fall...

I've used several cases but ended up with just the zagg front. The battery cover completely covers the corners so I didn't feel the extra bulk of a case was really worth the extra protection. Plus they're cheap to replace and cases are a pain when using docks.

First time you drop on one of those corners on concrete - You'll wish you had a case

I have....twice. Both from above waist height. Battery cover is scratched but that's it. I could replace it but, meh.
For all their shortcomings in the software department, Motorola actually makes some well built hardware.

You are amazingly lucky you haven't shattered the screen! You know what they say though, 3rd time's the charm! lol

I, too, have gone caseless. I've got a screen protector on it, but I figure that all the corners and back panel are just a piece of cheap plastic. When it comes time to resell my phone I'll just buy a shiny new backplate for the same price as a nice case. It's worked for almost a year now.

It depends on your taste, but the Otterbox case I bought is actually pretty good protection and slim factor. Only thing is that you lose the ability to use the docks.

I've gone case-less also. Due to the slippery feel, I definitely wanted a case but there wasn't a good, grippy option that could still be used with the cardock. Surprisingly enough, I've trained myself to grip the phone carefully and its only been dropped once but with no damage (from 6 feet high). Moto builds tanks.

My Seidio Spring-Clip Holster (belt clip) review.

Review: HTC EVO 4G Seidio Spring-Clip Holster (non-cased phone) (MSRP: US$29.95)
Photo Gallery:
Easy to remove!
Tight, close fit to show off your shiny, new EVO!
High-quality plastic makes this one tough case and holds the EVO nicely!
Felt backing unlike anything that I have seen in a holster to protect the screen!
Introduction:
I would just like to start off by saying that, like many of you, I absolutely could not wait to get my hands on the brand new Sprint HTC EVO 4G. Also like many of you, the thought of scratching, dinging, or cracking my brand new EVO just makes me cringe. Also, the dust issues that the HTC Hero had drove me crazy, and I couldn’t stand having any dust in or on my EVO. This is precisely why I’ve chosen not to carry my EVO in my pocket (as I have done with every phone I’ve owned before) in favor of carrying it on my belt. The Seidio Spring-Clip Holster provides the exact remedy to my situation, and it does its job wonderfully.
Initial Impressions:
The first thing that I noticed when I opened my holster was the fact that, unlike any that I had used or seen before, it had a felt interior to protect the EVO’s large glass screen from any sort of scratches or potential dust build-up that tends to find its way into plastic cases. The plastic is very solid, and it is fairly hard to flex. Both the belt clip and the spring-clip used to hold the EVO in place are very sturdy and snappy.
Daily Use:
The slanted ridge on the spring-clip makes sliding the EVO into place a breeze. It felt very natural to just slide my EVO into place after just a couple minutes of use. The clip locks it firmly into place, and it even features a tiny groove in the plastic to ensure that it does no come into contact with the EVO’s power button (I didn’t even notice this until I became curious as to why it never triggered standby mode off). In order to make sure that nothing would become of my EVO in some high-speed conditions, I even tested some rapid, short movements to make sure there was no chance of the phone slipping out. The belt clip itself is able to be positioned in seven different positions for whatever you prefer. Personally (as a fairly thin person), I prefer to keep the holster in the upright position for the most comfortable feel. The EVO, being the heavy-weight it is, adds a fair amount of weight to your belt, but everything just feels natural. I actually prefer the weight because it lets me know everything is still there.
Conclusion:
I’d definitely recommend this to anyone getting an EVO who is either concerned about damaging their device or just wants a nice, professional way to carry (and show off!) their EVO. I find that it is worth every cent because the craftsmanship and quality of materials of Seidio products is second to none! I’ve never had any issues with one of their cases, and I don’t expect to have any with my belt clip. I would also like to remind everyone that there is also a holster available that is compatible with Seidio’s Innocase so you can protect your phone with a solid case and carry it on your hip to protect it from dust, dirt, and lint in your pocket.
I'm impressed!
I have the holster/case combo for my Nexus and it is awesome. Best holster i've ever owned for a phone the springloaded top clip is the bees knees LOL Plan to get this same one you have for my EVO.
I just ordered my case and holster combo from Amazon (half the price than the Seido site)
I had a holster like this for my Treo and really liked it, especially how it tightly hugged my side rather than sticking out like many other clip/holster cases.
The one question I have is how well it will work if you have one of those full-body super-thin skins (like Inivisible Shield or the cheaper versions from BestSkinsEver).
From past experience I found that the corners of the skins sometimes tend to peel away from the repeated sliding in/out of the holster. But I love those skins because they completely prevent scratches and add almost no bulk (but no drop-protection).
Hoping they get the caseless model of the Seidio holster on Amazon (less expensive and free shipping with Prime).
I can't take the cover off for the life of me lol
Any tips?

Thanks for the tip, ordered my combo for 39.
I just got this earlier today. Took pics, and was going to write a review, but I see a great one is already up. I really like this.
I wanted a Krusell case, but they don't make the style I want, big enough for the evo. http://krusell.se/products/1/?catid=50&productid=2854
I found this on Amazon, and it comes in a close second, for me. Wanted a way to carry the phone, but did not want a snap on case adding to the considerable size of the evo. Frankly, drop a phone with the Seidio snap on case, and your Evo will be just as well off, without the case.
Anyway, really just a bump to the review. I jumped all around, and could not get the phone to fall off
Great review. I had just ordered my Spring Clip and Phantom Skinz Carbon Fiber skin yesterday and can't wait to get them. Thanks for the great review as it seems I made the right choice.
Does anyone know if full body zagg or the like can be used with these holsters?

Yes. I have the Chromatic Carbon Fiber skin and clear screen guard from Phantom Skinz and it fits perfect.
Excellent write up, thank you. Based in large part on this thread I just got the combo set from amazon. I hope I didn't just get evo_rick_rolled.

you should be ok, might be a little tight tho
also, the holster will leave some marks on the screen protector... where the screen touches the holster on the inside. this is the reason i went with a hard plastic screen protector like http://www.clarivue.com/htc-evo-4g-screen-protector.html
over all i love these holsters, i have used them on 3 diff phones so far... i do have one of these for the naked Evo im not using that im willing to sell... im using the active case and holster now and i have the rugged on its way.

I haven't had mine make any marks on my naked screen. Given, that may be because there is no extra thickness from the screen protector and the case it just designed that well.

[Review] Seidio Innocase for Vibrant

So the first thing I noticed was that this is not a slider, but a front-and-back snap case. The product description says "Unique snap together design and opening slot makes putting on and removing your case easy" but for some reason thought it was a slider like the Surface II for the Captivate. So, it's not their fault I misunderstood.
Since the front bezel cover is so thin, my initial impression is that it seems a little flimsy. The back cover is also quite thin and has no lining like other Seidio cases. I think this was a conscious decision in order to keep the case as slim as possible. The fit is quite precise, so I don't think the lining would really make much difference as there is no movement within the case.
Although the front bezel piece seems flimsy at first, it feels quite sturdy once you snap it to the back cover. I do have some concerns the clips that snap together will wear down over time if you remove the cover frequently. Only time will tell on that point.
It has Seidio's "signature soft touch finish" which is like a somewhat rubberized matte texture. It's quite nice, but attracts prints if you have oily fingers.
Overall, the fit is pretty much perfect and the cutouts are precise. It's very thin and has a nice texture. Of the six cases I have, it's certainly the nicest. It does, however, cost about as much as the other five cases combined - $29.95.
At $19.95, I'd probably recommend it in a second. At $30 I have some reservations, namely the long term durability of the clasps that keep the two pieces together.
Vibrant case wont work
should be gettin mine tomorrow....
i think they have 6 month warranty which actually does work. thats another big plus with this company.

Good to know. Hopefully won't have to use it.
Thanks for the review.
I'm still sticking to my white mesh case. I like really light and almost-not-there type of cases.
Thanks for the review, mine should be here within a day or so.
I ordered using the coupon code XMAS15 that was posted here. Not certain it's still valid though as the poster said it may expire on the 19th.
To the OP, how does the phone feel in your hands compared to what you had previously?
Also, did your volume buttons ever rattle? This is my only hesitation as the silicone case from t-mobile prevents the rattles I have from the volume rocker (which is loose).

For reference, I've had TPU's, hybrid TPU/Plastic (the one with hard clear back), a generic version of the Barely-There, and a flexible plastic perforated case (XMatrix Cover from DayDeal).
The added size and weight is similar to the XMatrix perforated case. It's not as slim as the Barely-There style cases, but I think it's definitely lower profile than TPU or silicone.
The finish is nearly the same as the Barely-There knock off I have, but seems a little more durable (the coating on the old case started to come off within days). It's smooth, almost suede-like, but has a bit of tack when held in the hand. When put on a smooth surface, like a desk or on wood trim in a car, it does not stick at all. This is a bit of a negative for me. One thing I like about TPU cases is that they kind of stick when you lay them on a smoother surface (I usually put my phone on the wood trim next to the gear shift in my car) but are not tacky otherwise.
As for the volume buttons, mine are not loose so I can't really comment on that issue.
One other thing I've noticed in the last few days of using the case, is that bezel cover is attached to the bottom part in only a few spots so there is some give in the areas that aren't clipped together. I think they should have added a couple more contact points on each side. It's not terrible, but I'm a bit OCD so it probably bothers me more than it would most other people.
I'll report back, should be here anytime now.. thanks man.
Case is good, very slim and feels good in hand, not perfect like other Seidio products. Like the review states, the case is NOT slide-on which sucks. I dont know why they used clip-on design, with slide-on case could have been even slimmer and more durable. Fit is also nice, but also not perfect, phone is just a little loose in case, not noticeable right away until you play with it.

After waiting around for the SGP Slider, I was also hoping this would be a sliding case.
I did get to hold a Captivate with the Innocase II, which is a slider, and the fit was pretty awful. It moves around a ton compared to this front-back type. I guess I'll take this style and more precise fit over slider with a bad fit.
Is it the bump on the Vibrant that is the main issue with a slider?
I was a bit let down to find this was a snap on the front/back design.

it is nice and clean. my nexus one case fits better, but they probably had to make it clip-on design i guess for Vibrant bump
Nice review! I can't help but feel like Seidio threw this product together in a hurry, after they realized there are people with Vibrants. It just looks cheap compare to their other offerings.
Just got it. initial impressions:
1 feels great in the hand. Looks good too.
2 I absolutely hate how easy it un-snaps.
3 I want to know their return policy till they have a legit case like the ones I am accustomed too from seidio.
4 it's much more difficult to press power now.
EDIT: okay, found out how to do the return, just waiting to hear back from them.

Looking for the thinnest case?

I really like the Seidio cases and wondering if there is another really thin case?
Thanks

I agree, I love this case. Most people can't even tell my Evo has a case on it. I've been told many times that I was an idiot for having a "naked" phone. It's great to show these people that the phone is protected and then ask them, "who's the moron now!"
Yeah, for me I am not really worried about dropping the phone. I just wanted something that I can gently toss/ slide on the table and not have to worry about the camera lens scratching.
Even then I thought the Barely There case made the phone kind of wide. LOL. Now I just brought the Sprints Extended battery to make my phone last through the day and at the same time I can get ride of the wideness of the phone. It is now thicker but still easy to hold.
The best cases I have been able to find are the knockoff TPU Cases on eBay.
They are durable as all-hell (practically scratch proof) super thin and add very little bulk to the phone. They also protect the screen and camera with slightly raised lips. The side buttons are extremely responsive in these cases as well plus the cases are about $2.50 so they are a great value. If you get the black case, it will be difficult to tell that your phone is even in a case at all.

Look for the cases that have the little red tag on the back, these are the best ones. There ones that come in bright transparent colors without the tag are thicker and the side buttons are harder to use with them.
Here are ones I sell for 10 bucks free shipping, you can get these of amazon or ebay but the ones I see are alright quality but hey search around

Definately rock the tpu, they are thin, cheap, durable, not flimsy like the silicone models, and kind of grippy so they don't slide around much- in the car. You won't be disappointed.

I vote for casemate barely there as well... I dropped my evo out of my SUV( like an idiot it was in my lap and I forgot) and it landed in the street and my screen was fine. I know a couple people who have had there screen shatter using the Innocase so I think it is more about luck on if your screen shatters or not. So I am just using the Phantom Skinz black carbon fiber Chromatics. if my screen breaks it breaks, that is my fault lol.
Seidio Innocase 2 Surface are somewhat thin and offer good protection. Bestbuy rebrands that case as the "Platinum Series"
+1 on casemate
I'd been through 4 or so cases before I settled on the Barely There case by Casemate.
Other cases were either lint magnets or actually damaged by phone with scuffing and scratching when I removed and put them back to get access to the battery or whatever.
There was no point in trying to keep it pristine anymore so I wanted to go naked with it, but the camera was still an issue. No case means the camera can get scratched since it's raised. So I found the Barely There case and it's the closest I can come to going naked but having some minimal protection for the body of the phone and also keeping the cam lens away from surfaces when I place it down.
I don't like the 2 piece hard shells, if you drop them you're usually done with the phone as they snap off

Rockin' a case, or running naked?

Was just wondering if you guys are or are not using a case, holster, ect. for your phone.
if your are using one if you could say which one and maybe some pros/cons, how you like it type of stuff.
I'm currently waiting on the otter box commuter to arrive, I had the incipio case much like the commuter and loved it but felt the commuter would add the extra protection I need.

Naked, for the same reason.
I'm going nude also. I roll with a naked Dinc2 because the slimness was one of the reasons I chose this phone, and since it is on my works company plan, if anything does happen to it I will get a new one no charge (to me that is, my company may get hit with a bill).

Running naked. I don't like how cases bulk up the phone. Haven't run with a case for many years now across several devices without incident, and my devices have survived numerous drops.
I have the silicone one from the verizon store naked feels too slippery to me i'm afraid its going to slip out of my hand on the subway. Its doing pretty good. dropped it once on the stairs in the subway and its still fine. the only thing that bothers me is sometimes i have to take the case off to use the headphones jack. can anyone recommend another one? (i like silicone cause it lets me get a good grip on it. too afraid i'd drop it otherwise)
Anybody check out the TPU cases for this phone? I also admire the slimness of the DInc2 and was thinking about this as an alternative to both hard and silicone cases.
Cheap on Amazon too.
EDIT...nvm saw the TPU thread down below. Definitely getting one!
Using the Incipio two piece case half the time, the other half running naked just for the slimness of the phone
Naked.
Look at this phone. It's basically already wearing a case. I mean, I know accidents happen but I feel like this phone was designed to not need one.
I have the otterbox defender series and love it. Adds a lot of bulk if your not into that.
Would love to get there extended battery if they would get a case to fit it.

Aluminum? On the earpiece grill? That's the only part I can think of that you're referring to...
the whole front is aluminum from what i saw from the scratch. it sure isn't plastic..
the entire casing besides the back case,, give it a run with ur finger nail, once that starts chipping, or you scratch it you will see what i mean, i could be way off with the aluminum but it sure isnt plastic like inc1

It is something close to aluminum or other soft metal, at least that's what I thought. I also scratched the edge of mine just taking off a mobi hard plastic case I bought. Didn't take much at all to make a scratch.
Now, the back is plastic but made to feel the same as the front but I'm pretty sure it's not.

I agree 100%.
if it's the hard gel case from verizon, I bought mine the day it came out, it was the only gel case they had, but they gave me a full refund as there was a Tech Bulliten out fromm what I read here on the forusms, no receipt or anything and it was a diff store and got my money back so I was happy, cmae home and ordered an ottterbox. sucks just from a case the potential for damage is there. hopefully in a few months we don't have a bunch of complaints about this. I returned my scratched device for a refurb. no charge. told them it happened with a case on it. they had no prblem with refurbing it.

I don't use them, but I will give pictures and a review once the case comes and I use it for a day or two. high quality case, can get it cheap on amazon, and great brand name, that isn't bulky. they also make a defender case, which isn't my style but looks like a truck could run over it and be fine lol.

Yeah, I used the Seidio for my Eris, and I am considering it for my DInc2. Never been real hot on the Otterbox look, though I haven't seen one in person. I like my cases low profile and simple looking. Maybe I'll meet an Otterbox one day and fall in love.
I don't even care if the wood case broke the first time I dropped it. If I could find a good one I would rock that thing like hobos rock trench coats and buy another if it broke.
I wood pay more for the case than I would the phone.

Any "otterbox" like cases

I've looked quite a bit and cant really find any good cases that are like otterbox. Its not that i want an otterbox. I just would like something similar that covers up all the ports on the phone. There only seem to be 3. Maxboost hybrid, trident and i bason i think. But they seem to be cheap and dont fully cover the ports. I already have the maxboost, witch is ok, but its pretty cheap, and every time i pull it out of my pocket the bottom half slides off and i have to slide it back in place. Why is there no otterbox? They got something against the N5?, they even got a moto g case. Its all about the $$$

I just bought this, from fleabay, Cant really tell you too much, never had an otterbox..
I can tell you its pretty cool, and the front screen protector is nice, doesnt hinder touch too much
The problem you are going to most likely have with the ballistic (because I certainly do) is the need to remove it once a week or so due to the level of dust that somehow manages to transfer from inside your pocket or anywhere else to under the protector. Unlike an otterbox which actually tries to keep dust out at the top, this is a wide open door. Also, it takes some getting used to looking at the case because of how much the 4 corners bulge out - definitely not the prettiest case around.
But I fully appreciate this case for what it does do right - I have dropped my N5 on concrete numerous times and it's sometimes funny to show off how good of a case it is to people I meet by just saying "oops" and dropping it from shoulder height onto pretty much any surface below. See the looks on peoples faces - worth the money right there. Lol

Ya thats one i saw also. It isnt very appealing.
Just received this hybrid a couple days ago and do far loving it. Tight fit, no play, covers all ports, not lint magnet, nice hard tpu inner and a decent built-in screen protector.

None of them are appealing to me. Even otterbox. On any phone. Just ugly.

Spigen Slim Armor, I have been using it for months. Looks great, protects well, and doesn't add much size to the phone. $15 for the smooth black, great deal
http://www.spigen.com/nexus-5-case-slim-armor.html
Looks arent as important to me, im just worried about the protection of the phone and ports
Most people haven't heard of it but Siedio makes amazing full body protective cases.
Search Google for the Seidio Convert Combo Case Nexus 5. (I'd give you a link but I have 2g right now)
The case makes your nexus 5 a little bulky, but not much heavier ime. It has covers for the ports and its a 3 layer case with a good quality screen protector included.
Honestly, I believe that the Spigen Slim Armor is quite overpriced for what you get. i say this having actually bought one myself. The software is totally rubbish. Also, since it depends on using the proximity sensor to activate the screen, it causes numerous issues with that as well. you could always use it without the software, but it still doesn't change the fact that you just paid $45 for a piece of plastic with a hinge.
+1 on the seidio convert case. I just got it from the android central store during one of their last sales and I love it. It comes with the seidio surface hard shell case with kickstand which is pretty slim and protective on its own, but it also comes with the thicker rubber outer case and hard shell for structure and more protection (and protects/covers the ports), plus it comes with a locking holster that you can switch mounting attachments on between the standard belt clip, or the car mount, running arm band, bike handle bar mount (sold separately).
The case is awesome, I couldn't say more good things about it, great shock protection, great dust protection, light water protection, great button response, and the ability the simply use the surface case in its own right makes this well worth the money!
