Now that you have your G'Nex, (and isn't it the ish?!!) Is there any functionality of it, or ICS, that was a bit of a let down?
I've had mine a little over a week and I'd have to say, that for me it's the camera. Panorama is VERY cool, and impresses everyone, and zero shutter lag is great. But I notice that the quality of basic snapshots is lacking. Colors look unnatural, strange tinting, etc. It may all be in the settings, which I have just now started tweaking. Hopefully I can come up with the right combo, because what's the point of all of the rest, if the pictures come out bad?
Other than that's it's been a major lovefest with the new "baby", complete with frequent battery changes, and late night chargings.

IMO nothing let me down in regards to the specs and quality of this phone/ICS. I came from the SGS so everything with the GNex was a big improvement for me.
Some will probably say that the battery is a letdown, but given the sheer size and resolution of the screen i'd say it is OK.
/PS: I have the GSM version.
I was letdown there wasn't a hidden micro sd slot. That's it.

I would also say the camera, but I will also say the speaker on this phone is a piece of crap!! I can't believe they shipped the phone with such a low ass speaker! Unbelievable!!! But I still like the damn phone

This is actually a bug in the Google ROM and is fixed in 4.0.3
None. The speaker is a bit of a let down but that wasn't a highly-touted feature.
I dislike the fact that the camera requires a tap to focus and another to take a picture. Why can't I just tap the shutter button and it focuses for me?

I must be a sadist, because the screencap feature works for me, EVERY TIME.
The only thing I find to be a letdown is the lack of official Google Wallet with the Verizon version. I don't trust putting a hacked app on my phone that pays with credit cards. Other than that this phone rocks!!
In the original reveal for the GNex, the presenters had mentioned a 'manual white balance.' I got really excited for this, thinking we'd be able to set a custom WB or at the very least manually set the color temperature (in K) to whatever we wanted. Turns out they just meant it was the same as the previous iterations of Android, and that we were limited to Daylight/Tungsten/Fluorescent/etc.
A true manual white balance would alleviate a ton of issues that people complain about in regards to color reproduction. Oh well -- maybe one of these days.
The speaker, like many claim, sucks quite some donkey balls.
The option, or rather not to have the option, to slot a micro-SD card, but we knew that when we bought it . Still 16g should be enough for your phone (imo).
A feature of ICS I never use though is faceunlock... highly featured and beloved, but I don't use it.
It's a nice add-on though but I like to have no lock at all, had my company mail on my older SGS1 and always had to unlock through letter/digit combo.. meh so just slide away for me
Overall, this is the best phone for me, still gonna get the SGSIII aswell to play with.
Or maybe 'encourage' my girlfriend to get it when her contract has to be renewed so I can claim it
the overall smoothness was a huge let-down for me, initially, as most of my previous droids were smoother and faster in comparison. 4.0.3 took care of that once and for all though. Everything's close to perfect now.
This is pretty much the best smartphone on the market right now.
Sometimes I'm amazed by the reading comprehension (or lack thereof). He asked what advertised features of the phone ended up being a let down.
-Couple of things here...nobody ever said the phone would have a SD slot.
-Yes they advertised NFC but don't recall them claiming Wallet would be installed, the highly touted NFC stuff was Android Beam.
-The speaker also was not any kind of advertised feature...we all know its a gamble on any phone.
Anyways..while the face unlock feature works its hardly secure as has been demonstrated, I'd complain a little about the camera but I don't believe phones should be expected to take good pictures that's what DSLRs are for.

couple of things here. if the picture i want to take is that important that i need to worry about wb i will use my 5d and shoot in raw. also a lot of people seem to be having issues just taking a picture with the gn if you think these same people are going to be able to figure out setting a manual wb thats a hella stretch.
Really I think it's a matter of the nexus not living up to the hype. For months people have been hyping up this phone. My last phone was a Evo 3d, going to the nexus was really a blah kinda upgrade. ICS is really nice and having it be fully functioning is a very good selling point, but on the 3D they pretty much had everything except the camera and wimax. I would say it ran almost as smooth as my nexus. Don't get me wrong the nexus is a great phone and would recommend it to others. It's just not a huge upgrade from a modern dual core phone.
Also the speaker is kickass compared to the Evo 3d's! And this phone should of been named the Nexus Prime!

Really??? With on/off button and then vol-down? 45% of the time I get the Phone Options menu, 45% the phone goes to silent. I'm not being facetious, I REALLY want this to work. As Big Samm says; on the iPhone it's dead easy and works 100%. On MY Nexus; hardly ever.....
Any ideas what can be wrong on our phones?

The dealbreaker for me was
1-People in the USA complaining about when going in dense places the network drops out.
I'm always in parks and on the outskirts of the networks so this is not good for me.
2-Pages and pages of complaints + New upgraded OS
These complaints may not end for months and I don't want to be a ginnypig for google
3- 5mp camera.
Can't see myself downgrading from 8mp to 5mp Camera, Close up is OK but zooming is not good
for somone that seen what the difference would be, A 12mp will be out in 3-4 months
I could ADD more.
Well I was all for the whole thing, except for less codec (audio/video) support than the SGS2, less app compatibility, worse media player, no SD card slot, worse camera...
I can't really see any benefit for an upgrade from the SGS2 for me... Other than the novelty of ICS of course

Superior screen
Forums are designed to hear more complaints than gratification...people spend more time trying to find something wrong with their devices instead of just enjoying them. All forums are full of this OCD behavior. You have to face it that majority of the owner who enjoy thier devices are not posting how much they love them. They are rooting, adding Roms, or just nothing and letting it be a friggin phone.
I love my GN...sure it has a few bugs but if you keep waiting for the next best thing then you will never buy anything. Just buy what you like try it out and form your own opinions.

I was told to try the Pure google phone experience because I didn't care for the SGS2 touch wiz or the UI either way I tried the Nexus S at Sprint yerterday and today again to make sure what my feelings were about it and it had the same old specs 5mp camera and it was slow as **** and dull dull dull

Nexus s has gingerbread for the time being unless you root, and the UI is way different from ICS. All of the reviews I have read say the interface changes in ICS are for the better.
If you have a SGS2 then there is no reason to upgrade. I passed on the SGS2 because I wanted Google to be in charge of my updates instead of Samsung. Considering the galaxy s only went up to gingerbread and they're not gonna update it even though it's capable of running ice cream sandwich I don't see any compelling reason to leave samsung in charge of my updates. The development community will pull through but you have to admit the roms would work a lot better if they had a nice stock kernel to pull from as well as the source code provided by OEM.

Well your talking about the GSM version. What about Verizon. See I heard the opposite, that it was getting better reception then some of the newer phones out... razer and rezound.
There really aren't lots of complaints about the phone itself outside the, already fixed, volume bug.
Just like the volume bug, see how quickly it was fixed? This is why we choose the Nexus phones. Other phones would have gone for weeks or months before a new fix. This is the reason.
As far as the camera... 5mp with instant shutter > 8mp with 5second shutter. Sure I'd rather have a 8mp with instant shutter, but whatever. Out of all the photos I take, 5% end up on Facebook and the rest go to waste in a folder.
I dunno. I have different reasons for getting a Nexus. I would keep my G2x otherwise until quads come out. The Nexus is the one phone on Verizon that isn't locked down by their BS policies and bootloaders... and work pays for my Verizon line. Galaxy Nexus = +$80 a month I save.

I find your points invalid. Not to argue but just throwing out my opinion considering I've had the device for the day and have compared it to my friend's 4S and a GS2.
1) The network problem that people have been having doesn't seem to be a problem. It's not because of the device to say the least as no one outside of the US has whined about it.
2) ICS has got to be the best Android OS to date. Not because it's new, but because it is the most refined and by far the smoothest experience for any mobile OS. I prefer it over iOS 5.
3) For any regular person, 5 MP is great. Especially with the zero-lag shutter which I have to say worked amazingly in my test. Compared to 8 MP you can honestly barely tell the difference. If you require that much quality from a digital camera then you should invest in an actual decent camera.

I'm as big of a stock Nexus fan as the next person (own the Gnex, sold the SGSII for it, for example) but the search button bug is still not fixed on the Nexus S.
So, Google isn't held to a "do no wrong" standard...they are faster than regular manufacturers for updates, but we are never guaranteed perfection.
My first sgn has most definitely had reception / no signal in low cell service areas. However any other phones in the area whether its an iPhone or an android are still able to make calls when my nexus cant. I have a replacement device coming to see if its a radio issue.i will say though that any where there is a good signal the thing screams. However the signal also drops in those areas and doesn't recover. Hopefully its just mine.

My point to the OP is that if you into each & every phone thread here on XDA, you find that every phone has pages & pages of complaints. Therefore, no matter if a new phone is released today or 6mos from now, this will continue to be the case for those too. I guess I dont understand what the OP really want anyone to say. I try things for myself and base my opinion. I certainly dont base my buying decision solely on what forum posters say because going into it i alrdy know that most posting are going to be negative. That is the case in EVERY phone thread.
This phone rocks. Period. I am loving it more every day.

If the OP has a problem with #2 on his list, then google nexis devices aren't for him. Tech geeks buy these phones cause they come with the bleeding edge of android OS technology. And with that comes bugs, things that may not be finished, ect. Plus we usually like to tinker with stuff, break and fix it
If you don't want to be a guinea pig for Google, then don't get a Nexus.

1. My Android journey -> N1, DHD, SGS2, GNex. I made the switch purely because I was madly in love with ICS ever since seeing it on a colleague's GNex, and the improved screen resolution on the GNex. The lack of fixed capacitative buttons have made for a nice added layer of personalisation (with custom ROMs of course).
2. I've taken a few shots with the GNex and am generally satisfied. I think for day to day point-to-shoot moments, it isn't bad at all. The zero shutter lag actually helps capture "the moment" well. But yes, I do miss the superb clarity of my SGS2's pics...

4. Hell no. Although if the rumoured Galaxy Nexus "Plus" is coming (faster OMAP4470 CPU @ 1.5GHz and 8MP cam) then I will... but this is just a rumour...

2. No. Like all cameras on phones it is fine in good light.
3. All updates are exactly the same whether they come from Google or Samsung.

2. If you focus the Nexus before you shoot, it'll take good photos. That's all it takes really. Pretty much the same with all other phones. If you dont focus, it'll take okay pictures but if you make it focus first then it'll take good photos.
3. Yes, just flash yakju on your GSM nexus then you'll be good. It worked for me.
4. No regret at all.
I just wanted to say something about the camera.
"Capturing the moment" has not really been there for me because I use a pattern lock to secure my phone so I can't go to the camera app as quick as I wanted to. So if you use any type of lock screen that is not the slide one, I wouldn't think that would be that great.
Also about the quality, I would just recommend that you get a friend or go to a store with the galaxy nexus and compare it. I personally don't take many photos so I didn't really care about the quality but I gotta say... its worse than my sgs captivate in my opinion. So I would recommend trying it out for yourself.
Overall, if I had a sgs II I wouldn't switch because that device is still a great device and it will get ics sometime in the future. I would just save my money...
That was just my own personal opinion on the whole thing. Hope you make a good decision!

I'm leaning towards the switch but I would like to actually use a unit before I make the final call so I might swing into a Verizon store and check one out.
Don't the hardware is a downgrade. The only thing it has is the screen and that's it.once the s2 gets ics it will be much faster and better

I have spent 2 days with the nexus as a replacement for my water soaked SGS2(exynos) version. Before the haters get on me, i just want to give my honest opinions.
The Nexus is not as bad as many make it out to be. It does have a great screen and does feel nice in the hand. It is also pretty responsive as well.
Things i dont like coming from an sgs2...
-camera is terrible no matter how u put it-im sorry, it just is compared to sgs2
-micro stutter are quite frequent. There is a fair bit of lag throughout the whole phone. Whether it be scolling through web pages, homescreen, gallery or contacts, it just always has a bit of lag. Not crazy lag but again, coming from an SGS2 you never saw it anywhere.
-talking to people on the phone doesnt sound as clear
-speaker is weaker
-no SD
-battery is ok but not as good (could be because i have had it only for 2 days and also might need updates)
-browsers very fast but not as smooth in scrolling, pinch to zoom or playing videos
-apps not completely compatible yet (not nexus' fault)
Again, this is just my take on what i have seen. The phone just seems like a bit of a "work in progress". Also, i think sammy really put their full attention on the sgs2 and its software when they made it.
If you have a choice between the two, definitely go for the sgs2 unless you absolutely cant wait for ICS.

the nexus screen is sharper and larger. the sgs2 screen is more vibrant and more contrast.

When I pick up my friends SGS2 to play around with it a bit, I gladly give it back to him.
The crisper and sharper screen with the noticeably higher resolution allows ics to shine. Don't listen to those who simply down play it's screen; it's pretty much *the* fundamental component of a touch screen device.

I might be the only one on the planet who actually likes that it uses MTP. I like not having to worry about whether the phone or my computer has mounted the SD card while it's plugged in.

So after reading reviews from tech crunch T3 engadget BGR etc etc I'm at 90% going for Nexus especially with the pure google experience and at least two years of updates ala nexus S rocking ICS

Camera quality
I had a Nexus and returned it, primarily because I didn't feel the camera quality matched my HTC Thunderbolt's (running Skyraider).
HOWEVER.
After a week without the Nexus, I got the bug to get ICS again, and all the bells and whistles that came with Samsung's device and the newest phone on the market. I use the camera for work, and after spending some time with it - I now feel it's every bit as capable as HTC's - and surpasses it in many ways. I think it was just dealing with something different that turned me off. Sure, it's 5 megapixels v. 8 ... but that's not an accurate comparison, since lens quality and picture-processing algorithms play such an important part. As others mentioned - the no-lag shutter is great, there are some fun built-in features, and video quality is outstanding. The ONLY thing I don't care for is that the photos are not in 16x9 format. That seemed odd to me, and I was discussing it with a friend who's into photography. He pointed out that the pix the Nexus is taking are in 6x4 format (I think that's right -- definitely not 4x3). He says that's an industry standard for printing photos -- that 16x9 presents a problem if you're trying to have a photo printed professionally. I'd still like the option to shoot 16x9 (if it's in there, I can't find it) -- but the camera is far better than some reviews (and my initial experience) would have you believe.

I love MTP when connected to my Win7 machine, but my netbook runs Linux, and I'm still figuring out getting MTPFS to automatically mount the phone's filesystem when I connect it. I can write a shell script to mount and unmount, but that isn't as nice as it "just working" on Windows.

So after the dissapointment with the sg3 announcement and all the issues surrounding the att hox. I'm considering this phone but want to know if the old specs it has and bad camera make it worth it still. I'm planning on using my att sims card in it and/or buying a prepaid tmobile sims card probably that $30/month one. It depends I just want to be able to know I have the freedom to do so with this device? Are there any other unlocked gsm devices with better specs that can do this as well? I guess other penta band android devices, I dont think there are many or any others like the samsung galaxy nexus. At the price point its at now is it still worth it? Would you guys still buy it?

You're always going to get biased advice, we're humans. But at the $400 price point, it's the best deal basically for an unlocked smartphone (I bought mine for $440, but got a Google Back Plate pretty soon after that.)
Trust me, the camera is pretty good with 0 shutter lag, if you're just going to make a Facebook post or something like that,the images are pretty good IMO. The phone runs amazing with stock ICS too, I never really did like TouchWiz or Sense.
You could get an HTC One X which has a better camera and overall design, but I'd stick with the Nexus because of the price point and better overall user experience (Pure Google .)
Right now I've been using the T-Mobile prepaid $30 for unlimited text, data (5GBs at HSPA speeds), and 100 minutes calling and it's working perfectly.
I'm using AOKP Milestone 5 and franco.Kernel Milestone 3.

Trust me, the camera is pretty good with 0 shutter lag, if you're just going to make a Facebook post or something like that,the images are pretty good IMO. The phone runs amazing with stock ICS too, I never really did like TouchWiz or Sense.
You could get an HTC One X which has a better camera and overall design, but I'd stick with the Nexus because of the price point and better overall user experience (Pure Google .)

The 0 lag shutter its only for 4.0.2 or lower and the images suck, but after that starting from 4.0.3 they activated the autofocus and it will take few milli seconds more to take the pictures but the quality its awesome... I mean you can take a good picture with the camera.. Nothing bad about it..and really good 1080p vídeos, Im also on aokp milestone 5 and franco milestone 3 runs buttery smooth, flawlesly, good battery, loads of features, very very good user experience, you have everything handy and i paid for mine 650 dollars for it in january on Amazon and would pay the same again... The only device i would change this for its the upcoming nexus (guess in november/december)

Does the screen tend to look to blue on some white pages say when browsing? Im getting that impression from the videos I've seen. The on screen buttons are the only way to navigate the device, I mean do any roms fix this? Just feel like youre losing screen real estate.
The camera auto focuses now? I didnt even know they could add that function with software updates.
And great, I'm thinking of using the tmo prepaid card from time to time.

My screen works great never seen any color bugs here under any condition low/high illumination, sunny, night low brightness high brightness or any combination of that and Yes they fixed camera with autofocus and works awesome now, vía software
And no when needed ics will hide the nav bar and make the screen wider

Yeah, there is auto-focus, but it really doesn't change any performance honestly. The phone on default sets the video on 720p if I remember correctly, but you can change it to 1080p and the quality is superb. For the screen, it really depends on what phone you get, but you can easily change it by gamma tuning. But don't ask around for these settings, it differs for every device. As for the on-screen buttons, you can use AOKP and go to Settings>ROM Control>Power menu options, then turn navigation bar toggle on to use some apps full-screen (it really looks better, esp. in Modern Combat 3.)

There's always going to be new phones coming out, they're going to have different specs. And many of them with greater specs on paper will not run as well as the GNex because of the overhead of all the bloatware running on the phone.
I don't know about others, but my GNex is VERY fast. Speedtest on t-mo's network is almost double what my G2x could do. Scrolling and typing are very responsive, and Chrome as a browser is insanely fast.
Overall, this phone is perfect in my opinion. I've missed my N1 ever since i "upgraded" to the G2x, and now it feels like i have a clean, quick, crisp phone back.

This is the best and only phone with full penta band 3g radio for world use and ATT and T-Mobile. That's pretty big advantage for some.

Yeah, I've experienced no random reboots, and the battery is superb if you use franco.Kernel and AOKP.
At this point though, I would recommend buying from Google Play direct, because I bought a Nexus from Wire4Less and I ended up getting a DoCoMo Nexus (already pernament unlock though), even though I emailed them in advance and they told me that they were selling the European version of the Nexus (but I got a $40 goodwill refund because of this.)
The pentile display shouldn't be much of an issue if you aren't a screenophile, and besides, you can just gamma tune which fixed my screen issue.
I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan myself and I get around 4-8 Mbps speeds.

The S4 can take some incredible pictures... the One is solid and fast, but a lot more inconsistent than the S4. The S4 also allows me to say "cheese", "capture", "shoot", to get it to auto-focus and snap a shot - which comes in handier a lot more often than I thought. The One also doesn't quite match up with battery life, but that makes sense given the smaller battery.

LOL! Right! I have been reading and debating for weeks and I feel no closer...The Camera is the most important feature for me as I am a crazy shutterbug, but that build quality on the One is so nice...I want the One to have the better camera and an SD card slot damn it! Stupid people at HTC!

Are you stuck on ME7? The S4 I bought a week ago had a bad button - it came out of the box with ME7. However, in store yesterday they just grabbed one out of another box brand new to swap out, and it's on MDK. Since the One is locked up for now, and the S4 I have now can theoretically stay that way as long as someone (like yourself ) continues providing stock/rooted ROMs, correct? Making the decision even tougher... that, and as much as I like the speed and quality of the One's camera, the S4 can simply take some amazing shots... S4 also seems to get better battery life, but the One's UI is smoother/snappier.

I'm wavering back and forth myself between getting the One and selling my S3. Aside from build, I personally feel the quality of Sense all the way through is far superior to TouchWiz. I think with the camera is 50/50 because I've had some great shots on my S3 but I've also had some horrible shots; interestingly enough, now that I think about it my first S3 had a horrible camera but the CLN I got takes much better photos.
Anyway, for me even if the battery life is so-so on the One I think fit-and-finish will still win out on me if I go through with it.

The S4 may seem to take better shots because of its over processing. I would personally just find as many camera comparisons as you can and even check out Flickr's camera finder to see.

Sense is definitely cleaner and simpler than Touchwiz, and snappier. But TW on the S4 has a few features that become relatively addicting once you're used to them (this isn't my first S4 )... Air Preview is one - it seems gimmicky, but once you're used to using it, it's pretty handy. Using your voice to take a picture is another I use ALL the time - keeps the hands steady and helps with the self-shots with the kiddos.

This isn't my first S4 or my first One - it is on Verizon, though. I've tested them both extensively, and honestly they both do a lot of processing. The One's camera is really fast, especially if you're using touch-to-capture, and has some cool features like "events" videos. The One has a tendency to wash out in lighter scenarios because it lets so much light in. The S4 keeps lighting more balanced, but if there's a shadow in the foreground (like on someone's face), doesn't bring it out as much because of that "balance". Honestly, the S4 takes better low-light shots than the One does when it's in Night Mode - which it can recognize automatically, but doesn't always do it. But it's also a slower shot than the One's low-light shots. Flash-based shots are hands down to the S4. The One's are good, don't get me wrong, but the S4's shots are bright and balanced with little to no washout, and very crisp and clear. You can really take advantage of those 13mp with the flash. Outdoor shots, especially in good sunlight, also go to the S4 most of the time. If all else is equal, and you're snapping a photo of your kid going down a water slide 30 feet away, they'll both do great - but the S4's will actually be croppable, while the One's will get noisy really quick at that distance.
So in general I like the quality of the S4's shots better, I like the feel and speed of the One's camera better (less the lack of voice control), and I like the feel and speed of the One in general, but also miss some of the voice controls that the S4 has. I also don't hate the S4's feel - it's very thin and tight... just not the nice brushed aluminum feel of the One. I also like that I can root/rom the S4 if I want - I don't do it much any more but would like the option. I can hope the One will be able to soon, but who knows... If I ditch the One today, it'll probably get s-off tomorrow. If I don't, it'll probably be 3 months...
edit: and I also tried out a Droid Maxx for a few days and besides battery life and an incredibly smooth, stock-like UI, found it lacking in almost every other area compared to the One and S4

Ha no worries! I never use the voice features or any of the Samsung TW features on my S3, so that's a non-issue. As long as I can control aspects of the camera like metering, exposure value, iso, etc I can work with the camera.
My brain is going so fast trying to think this one through.
I absolutely agree with that sentiment! Months of reading and my conclusion is that I want a mash up of the 2 phones. The One with the S4 Camera & an SD card slot! In the long run, I am an amateur photographer and the S4 will probably win...

I've been wondering this same thing but for me the tricky thing is the lack of the software buttons I'm so used to on my Galaxy Nexus.
Though between the s4 and the one there isn't much a difference although the one's offset home button is kinda odd to me.
Hoping one day I'll be able to flash a rom that ignores the hardware buttons in exchange for software buttons, but that might not be as nice either. So still a tough decision.
I had the s4 and went with the one. The camera is barely better on the s4. No cellphone camera is going to take good shots in low light conditions and I think the one does a bit better than the s4. In normal to great light conditions the cameras are pretty darn close to me. I like the Zoe feature of the one.
Battery life seems to be pretty much the same as well. I'm getting just about the same amount t of screen on time.
I think the one ui is much more fluid. And the big winner for me is the screen. Wow does the one look way better!!
The build quality is amazing on the one as well. I love how it feels like its a solidly built phone he plasticy. I out a case on mine so it kinda doesn't matter but you can still feel that the phone is solid.
Of course that's just my opinion.

The One's camera is also wicked fast, especially if you enable touch-to-capture under shutter options - tap where you want it to focus, it adjusts lighting and focuses and snaps very quickly. And I love being able to make a short video montage with preset audio and effects and share that easily... pretty cool feature with the kiddos.
I think the main areas the S4's camera will win out are large scenic shots that you want to crop or zoom at all, for obvious reasons. And also shots where there's a lot of contrast, it tends to balance things out better, while the One seems to wash out the light areas when focused on the dark areas, and vice versa.

Of course, I have Dslr, but I don't always have it with me, and I have found that 50% of the time, the Phone can equal it...The other 50% it doesn't come close!
BTW, I took the S4 back and got the One! Was not happy with the Camera and that was the only reason I bought it...
Ever since November, I've been thinking about purchasing a new phone. I was set on the 2nd gen Moto X as I have a $50 discount code, but I got quite busy and didn't really have time to think about how I wanted to customize it and order it. And my Nexus 4 (what I'm upgrading from) isn't terrible, I just feel it needs to be upgraded pretty soon. But T-Mobile recently offered $150 off of their G3 ($450 final) and I felt it was a steal, especially for having double the capacity and an extra gig of RAM. So both are $450 in the end. I know you guys will recommend the G3 for me, but does anyone have certain reasons why the G3 is the better of the two? Any response is appreciated. Thanks guys

Personally, I love the power and volume buttons on the back. I rarely have to use the physical buttons anyway.

Thanks for your feedback man. How do you feel about the build quality? This is the real dealbreaker for me because I've felt the Moto X in person, and it's rock-solid in terms of build quality, but can't say anything for the G3 as I've never used it. But some people complain about the plastic build quality. I'm going to try and get my hands on one, but the another plus for this device is ROMs. Oh, sweet ROMs. The main reason this site exists haha

I'm impressed with the build quality, but I came from the S3 and S2 before that so was used to "worse". It feels nice, it's light, I was worried it would seem to big for me. The curved back feels nice and makes it feel comfortable.
Two things I think could be better about this phone. The notification LED - I never notice it when I get a notification unless I'm looking directly at it.
It's too small. The S3's LED was perfect. S2's was huge and looked like it was made for kids.
If I have the phone face up on my desk at work I never notice the vibration notification for texts. I did all the time in the S3.
I theorize that the curved back makes it this way since it's less contact area when face up.
I'll have to make an effort to keep it face down and see if I notice it. Mods for notifications like "Dynamic Notifications" , custom AOSP based ROMs and possibly official lollipop will take care of the notification problem by waking up the screen for them.
By the way, I got 115+ hours on battery last time I charged, but since I picked up a tablet at the same time and my wife and I are anti-social, I don't use my phone much.
The camera is awesome with laser focus on the stock ROMs. I rarely have to use the flash, too.

Just my 2 cents:
The build quality is relatively solid. I use the phone without a case with a glass screen protector and mahogany dbrand skin on the back. It has taken quite a few falls and there are only minor scuffs on the corners. There is no creaking of the battery door which is a plus. On the flip side I was not too pleased with the plastic back cover. While it feels miles ahead in terms of quality over the G2 and Galaxy S models, I find that it feels 'meh'. However this is easily fixed by a dbrand skin, which I cannot recommend enough.
As for why you would prefer this phone to the Moto X:
I would say for me it would be the Micro SD, the 2K screen, the camera (with OIS) and actually LGs recent efforts to keep the software up to date. LG arguably 'released' their Lollipop update for the G3 before the Nexus devices even got it. This bodes well for future updates, really.
As for why you would prefer the Moto X:
The build quality is great and the customisability is a plus. Moreover the software is much less bloated on the Moto X and less resource heavy. This however is pretty subjective and many actually like the G3 software.
In all honesty, I probably would have opted for the Moto X if it had had an SD card slot. However I got the G3 for a killer price and it has everything I need. I have no need to complain but it just feels rather... uninspiring.

I've had mine for a couple of weeks and am very happy with it.
Build quality: it feels solid and well made. I would prefer a textured back (like the G3 S) rather than the smooth back, but like poster above said, I can get a dbrand skin or something similar if I really want.
There is obviously an issue with cracks on top/bottom edges, but LG say that was a production problem that's been sorted. Do I trust that statement? No. We'll see what happens.
No complaints about anything. I even think stock rom is great (after being a Cyanogen user for 4 years).
g3 vs sgs3 roms
I also thought about buying this phone. However, I entered the forum and I was terrified a small amount of the available roms. My current device is sgs3 where I can select in countless available modifications. If something did not work, or just does not suit me I can quickly change it to something else. How is it here? This is as bad as can be seen from the number of topics in the Android Development section?

Wow comparing an old phone to a last year's phone.. Funny. Remember it's not easy to compile good stuff/mods to create a roms as there are many things to consider. Give it some time impatient guy.
On topic: i am 50/50 with this phone.
Pros:
*Camera with ois and laser af
*Ergonomics
*Plastic build yes, but its much better and premium looking than chrome which really looks cheap. (Hi Samsung)
*5.5 inch display in such a compact phone. (Hi Sony)
*Faster when it comes to SW updates
*Music output is great whether you're using speaker or earphones
*Power and volume buttons at the back? Genius! Makes the phone clean at the sides
*I prefer Knock code than fingerprint scanner. My phone is still safe even when I'm sleeping. Lol (Hi Apple)
Cons:
*Starts to heat up faster than other quadcore phones
*Ui is beautiful but sluggish
*Speakers at the back is ok but much better if they put it at the bottom for much clearer sound
*Stuttering even when using other launchers like nova
*I didn't pay for a premium device just to get this phone. Honestly, lag is tolerable but cmon.. This has a 2/3 gb of Ram with enough storage and has SD801 processor. We shouldn't be experiencing this kind of problem
Well i don't hate my phone. I love it. It's just the software that seems to be the problem. again it's for you to decide. You can use our personal experience as your reference but the choice will be yours.. Go to where your heart desires
I have found that without a case, the phone is pretty slick, and really thin, if you don't have a good grip on it, it will slip, if your not careful, not a deal breaker, just with any phone you gotta be careful

Thanks for comprehensive reply. I'm not saying that here should be as many roms as there are currently in sgs3 forum, it would be at least unreasonable, but comparing it to samsung's section form the same period there was twice more topics or even more . But no matter... I hope that some developers will start to get interested in it in the future.
I'm really happy that you've written not only about advantages but also about the other side of the coin. Of course, they aren't serious flaws but it's always useful to know the opinion about such things from an experienced user.
Maybe stuttering is quite strange, because not considering the price, any way you slice it it's main LG phone and it have powerful hardware comparable to the best devices of others produces so it is premium device. Undoubtedly it is caused by software problem (GPU I guess) and there's possibility that LG (or even one of developers) will fix it hereafter.
I have one question, how about battery life?
I just moved over to an ls990 (Sprint) from an HTC One (m7)...
Pros:
Much Better Camera
Much Improved battery life
Removable Battery
Removable SD Card
Cons:
I don't like the rear buttons (maybe you might)
AOSP ROMS are still very buggy (at least on the ls990/Sprint)
Overall I'm pretty happy with the choice, although I wouldn't have switched unless my HTC hadn't completely died (I'm guessing it was the internal battery.... which might as well be impossible to get to).
I would expect within the next year for ROMs to become much more stable for the LG G3, and I'm happy with the choice thus far. Hope that helps.

Yeah, there were/are tons of modded stock roms for s3. Thing is, 99.9999% percent of them don't deseve to exist.
The only good stock ones are 4.4.2 ports, omega rom and archidroid. And, maybe, S5 revolution. Other roms are "Let's take a stock rom, make a ton of useless build.prop edits and post it!"...
The g3 situation is different - roms are few, but distinct and good. There are some aosp/cm roms, from pure AOSP to Temasek's "Gotta kang em 'all!' builds, so things here aren't worse.
Battery life, is, unfortunately, same as on S3 or even worse. Bright 2K screen, snapdragon 801 and 4g don't add to battery life. 6h of 4g web browsing at most and 2-3 h of hardcore gaming is pretty bad.
There are serious flaws, actually. The main one is the absence of any cooling system for 801, plus it's facing the screen - which forced LG's software team to throttle it on 60° to prevent lowering screen brightness too low.
