Easy there champ. lets wait for 4.0.3 to be OTA'd.
And remember that just because the NS4G has 4.0.4 doesn't mean the Galaxy Nexus will ever get it (it might skip right over). If you remember, the NS4G had different OTAs and build #'s than even the GSM Nexus S. Its a different device.

true, im fairly new to the nexus line of phones, so i got a little exited, im used to waiting 6+ months for an update lol

Yay, so we're going to be two updates behind the Nexus S soon. Nice job Google!

I doubt there will be leaks for the GSM galaxy nexus. Leaks usually come from carriers, and since there is no official carriers for the GSM version, I think it's doubtful we see leaks.
The verizon version is different. As we've seen, select people with verizon connections have builds prior to official releases. They just keep them among the select few.

The GSM Galaxy Nexus is not exclusively sold in North America FYI. O2, Three and Vodafone are just three of the networks that I know of who officially offer the Galaxy Nexus here in the UK.

Read my reply above. Just because the NS4G is on 4.0.4 doesn't mean were ever going to get it on the GN. The NS and NS4G were on different builds of 2.3 also, but one was never "behind" the other. Chill out.

Anyone know when the 4.0.3 image will be available for the GN? Seems weird the Nexus S have received it first.

I think this belongs in the QA forum, but to answer your question:

tl;dr: "soon"
Thanks. It's interesting they publicised 4.0.2 instead of 4.0.3. So much for the Galaxy Nexus being the first to get updates...(Not that it really matters, only a small update )

Everything is "nexus." They simply just spread the love around, that's all.
Wish they could do that for the Nexus One I envy the Nexus S. Will the non-yakju get the OTA updates from Google? Haven't been able to catch up to the yakju vs. non-yakju debate.

Non-yakju will get the update but I believe its maintained by Samsung so you'll have to wait for them to push it. It takes a couple of minutes to switch to a yakju build. Or you can flash a deodexed 4.0.3 ROM when that gets released sometime this weekend as 4.0.3 has been dropped into AOSP.
Sadly, the Nexus One wasn't able to go through this process due to hardware limitations.

Whats up with Google and the Nexus

You know when you buy a nice shiny new Nexus, you'd expect to be leading the way in the Android version race...
But what the hell is Google doing with the Galaxy Nexus? Handsets are still at 4.0.1 and 4.0.2... but the Nexus from last year and the Xoom officially have 4.0.3.
Whats up?

There are already other threads on this.
The Nexus S OTA isn't even pushed to everyone. It's on hold right now.
The Xoom's ICS push is only for the WiFi version and only for specific people who signed up for it.
Who says that the GN will even get an OTA 4.0.3 update? They may even wait for 4.0.4 or whatever at this point. Who knows. But theres clearly a reason why they're not releasing it. They're not finished and just holding onto it for no reason...
If you really want it that bad you can install a custom ROM based on 4.0.3, or compile it yourself from source and flash it. Or, just wait for the OTA and chill!

Xoom ICS has gone out to the general pop.
I'm on XDA multiple times a day and never seen an actual thread on this. Yea we have kangs and AOSP but who doesn't. I bought a Nexus to get Android updates as they come out... I'm running 4.0.3 and it isn't a huge deal that it isn't out officially, but why is it rolling out to everyone else BUT US?
Yea 4.0.3 may be more geared with older devices to bring them up to speed... but obviously it isn't hurting the Nexus's unofficially running the 4.0.3 AOSP roms, so why not just throw it down to us? If the Nexus is the developer phone for Google, then 4.0.3 was developed on a new Nexus. Then why don't we have it yet?
Something just seems strang IMO. Having a Nexus One and following the Nexus S, I haven't seen them update an older device BEFORE the current line. Isn't it a little weird that last years model is running a newer version then we are? Some Nexus's are running on 4.0.1. Whats that about?

One thing I'm curious about: Why on Earth was OTA for SNS halted?! My SNS with 4.0.3 was fine, IMO
If you are going to root and put a rom on your phone why do you honestly care? There are so many threads on this already. No PHONE is being pushed 4.0.3 right now anyways.

holy hell guys the OTA for the nexus s was halted because they found some bugs during rollout, so they stopped. and they stopped galaxy nexus because of that as well. when they fix the bugs, they will continue the roll out. do you guys think google is doing this on purpose, they want to NOT give our the update to all as some master plan. or the more likely answer, they are fixing serious bugs.

It is out officially.
Build.
It.
Your.
Self.
The difference between a Nexus and every other Android phone is that you can take the LATEST publicly available source code and build a 100% fully functioning ROM with it. No matter how you slice it, you're not going to be able to build a 100% functioning Stock Android build for any other phones. They are hacked together. They are frankenbuilds. Yes other phones have 4.0.3 releases, but none of them are 100% functional. Not sure if you noticed, but for those phones you'll see a list of "what works" and "what doesnt work". For the Nexus phones, you can just build directly from Google's source and it will just work.
See: Nexus S vs Galaxy S. Although the Nexus S and the Galaxy S are identical in almost every way, the Nexus S has had ICS for months now. And you can build 4.0.3 for the Nexus S and it will Just Work.
The Galaxy S ICS releases otoh are FILLED with "known issues" - feel free to check yourself.
Just because it's not an OTA doesn't mean it's not available. You want a pure AOSP build that will be identical to an OTA that Google would push? Just build it yourself.
Something just seems strang IMO. Having a Nexus One and following the Nexus S, I haven't seen them update an older device BEFORE the current line. Isn't it a little weird that last years model is running a newer version then we are? Some Nexus's are running on 4.0.1. Whats that about?

They updated the Nexus S 4G a few times before they ever rolled out updates to the mainline Nexus S. There's really no rhyme or reason to when they roll out OTAs. If you care so much about having the latest official build though, again, build it yourself from their source code. What else do you think they do? The OTA for 4.0.3 will/would be built from the same identical 1's and 0's, bits, and bytes, that is already available quite openly in the AOSP tree. It's been available for months.
i was on 4.0.1 standard with no OTA updates. doesnt matter because the nexus is made to be customised, and be a developer edition device.
i was happy to flash 4.0.3 and a custom kernel. if you arent, then i think that buying a nexus was not the wisest of decisions.
I think people just want a quality official update direct from Google. Not knocking anything the developers do, but they aren't official builds. I'd rather have something I know Google wants out there running on my phone. For all we know, there are issues with 4.0.3 which is why it hasn't been actually placed on the Nexus S and Galaxy Nexus. Yet, you are so eager to say put it on yourself.

I've been using Androids since the Eris came out. Seriously, 99% of the time the ROMs/kernels put out by the devs here and on other sites are more stable than the official OTAs by the companies.
And I've been using Android since the G1, minus a small timeout on WP7, and custom ROMs always came with quirks left and right, that in their entirety always managed to piss me off in some way. If they don't do stupid **** in the kernel (I especially like the enabling of Linux kernel features just because they sound nice), they mess around with the userland, trying to improve things into breaking.

Google tells you how and what to build a completely untouched version of their code. If that bugs ya, and is not official enough for ya, then you are missing the point of this device. The device is officially supported by AOSP for yakju and mysid. If the idea of a source built rom bugs you just because its not on a Google sanctioned buildbox, then thats a shame.
I understand what you are saying about customized builds, but its easy to make a completely stock Google approved experience. Download source, setup vendor, and then make. Then you can use fastboot to flash. No need for clockwork, no need for root. If there is a demand for this, I would be happy to make both maguro and toro builds. I won't even root them and they will be odexed.
Once i get some time i plan on compiling myself a fully stock ics rom. Cause i can and that is the point of this stupid thing.

If this 4.0.5 update is real, I really hope Google has time to update the Android repos this time. Seriously.
It's embarrassing seeing Google promote the Nexus as the open phone and then release binary updates with no source attached, like it did with 4.0.4.

Exactly. It was a leak.
Couple things here.
SFR is the only company reporting it and has been before 4.0.4 was discovered.
Anyone find it funny a carrier announcing a software version for a carrier unlocked device?
Its not impossible as this is a Nexus device. It is unlikely though. Maybe its a typo? 4.0.3 was labeled as 4.1 on the repos at one point on accident. It shows in the commits.

Yes, I do not see why a carrier would claim to be rolling out a developer device ota, my bet is that it is listed by accident as its not their job to update, still think it may hint to 4.0.5 though, misadvertised or not

I've never read that.
4.0.3 was the official platform release
it was the release for the galaxy S
Everyone assumed it would come to the gnex because why wouldn't it but obviously google wanted to fix a slew of issues first.
To be honest I couldn't care less what version gets released as long as the bugs get sorted out ASAP. Browser stability is a big drawback for me, especially on flash rich sites. Countless random reboots and other annoying bugs along with general "smoothness" of the OS is needed.
By the way I'm on unrooted stock 4.0.2 GSM GN.

Google classified 4.0.3 for Nexus S. Check the page.
Don't ever expect anything from French providers, they are way too slow and inefficient. (except Free which is a brand new company)
0.0.1 updates are typically device and location specific update.
According to who?
Last I checked, 4.0.4 included fixes needed for the entire platform, not just a specific carrier.

If they say they will release 4.0.5, given the fact that they modify the system, it means that they will / they already have the official 4.0.5. Which means we might get it before they release their modified version.

What are you talking about ?
Repos have been updated, source is available online for quite sometime, even gerrit is up again. People want the latest? Build from aosp master branch.
Are you saying that you want to download 7+ gb of source code with a OTA or a "leaked" update?
Or are you talking about getting source code of proprietary stuff, like gpu, camera, sensors, GPS? That won't happen, at least by what JBQ told us @android-building. It isn't nor will it be possible to build a update package for the nexus all from source code. And Google is still undergoing to get all the other binaries from hardware suppliers, since we only have two officially available of the five or six needed.

um, 4.0.4 for the CDMA version isn't official. We have 1 leak and that's it. And nothing about that indicates that its any "better" than 4.0.3 for the GSM version that Google is working on. Just because its .0.1 higher, doesn't mean its better. There may never be 4.0.4 for the GSM version. You don't know.

Um, I didn't imply it was official. And there are people that say there are improvements.
- some say the Android OS bug is fixed (although that is just a cosmetic bug).
- some say they are getting better battery life (but that could just be placebo).
- some say that the crappy low volume is finally fixed in 4.0.4 (but who knows).
You don't even know if google is working on 4.0.3 for the GSM version - sure it was mentioned by some google engineers to include some fixes, but that doesn't mean they haven't moved on to the next rev already after pulling back 4.0.3 for the nexus_s for whatever bugs that were in it that they felt they needed to pull the OTA.
I think it's pretty clear they aren't releasing a 4.0.3 OTA, as it's been in AOSP for what seems like forever now. So they must be moving on from it.
edit: add to it that 4.0.4 already leaked for the nexus_s too

Sadly it seems like nothing ever leaks from google. It's always for models released for a specific carrier (verizon or sprint) that leak. Probably during the carriers testing phase before they give google the green light to release an OTA.

It IS official as it's on the Google OTA server, it's just not officially been pushed out yet. There's a difference
As for the OP, we're not getting 4.0.3 after the issues found in the Nexus S release. We'll likely get 4.0.x as and when Google feel it's ready to be released. Dev phone or not, the release still has to be stable.
If you're THAT bothered, build your own ROM from the source

If its anything like the moment or epic, it will be when the phone is at its end of life and no longer sold in the stores. Oh, and it will probably be the last official youll see.
I don't expect to see a jelly bean update for this phone. I would genuinely be surprised if it sees official jb.
Although they said the sgsII that doesn't mean the epic 4g touch variant. More stuff to support and more stuff to go wrong that becomes sprints problem. Also, people would see how capable this exynos really is and not go get an sgs3, with the only differences being the screen and a 4g chip you're never gonna use anyway, because sprint wants the world to buy iphones. I'm getting off this sinking ship and switching to verizon asap.

The epic branding has been retired, its now the sph-d710 galaxy s2, Samsung has promised support for a minimum of 18months after release on all devices starting with the gs2 series so we will more than likely get official JB, and it won't take as long as ICS since the upgrade from ICS to JB isn't as intensive as from GB to ICS was. Samsung has sworn off carrier branded devices and starting with the sgs3 all devices will be nearly identical except for the few differences for network compatibility. Mostly radios and modems, otherwise hardware and software will now be as close to exactly the same as the original international variant and all devices will be available on all carriers as close to the same release date as possible.

Wow if what you say is true I will probably stick with the samsungs galaxy line for my next phone, because I was thinking about going right for the next nexus no matter who it was who made it.
They can't even get ICS right, I doubt we get JB.

I'm trying to decide between the note 2 and the new nexus for my personal line, whichever I don't get for it ill be adding on my work line, ill prob be getting the sgs3 on my personal line and putting the et4g on my work line when the note 2 launches until my upgrade comes up in the beginning of Dec. My dads got the sgs3 and will be preordering the note 2 so ill get the sgs3 once his note comes in. That's one good thing about having a technophile for a dad he buys a new phone off contract everytime it drops and gives me his old one so i don't have to use up upgrades too often unless I want a nexus or something he hasn't bought yet. He's been sticking with Samsung since the et4g launched, which I'm fine with I got sick of dealing with HTC and their locked up bootloaders after the GB update on the og evo and after the moto photon I won't ever buy another moto device that thing sucked to try and mod, I can't go with a device that you have to sacrifice something to be able to flash

Why are people saying that we won't have Jelly Bean? Samsung stated that they would support this phone for up to 18 months! Believe it or not Jelly Bean might be our last official update. I don't think they will go beyond 4.1.X :0

lol i hear that but id be happy if samsung leave they task killer tho i love it
They won't do a pure Android release of Jelly Bean I don't think because it would be too much of a change for regular people, even though most of us would love it. We will probably be able to get it through sprint id though. I wish they would change the colors in tw to stock Android blue though, so much better then green and white.

Yes....but i believe that when & if that day comes, theres gonna be a butt-load of sg2 users scrambling to get back to stock in a hurry. Ironic, cause the first update is pretty much what helped to cause the mad flash frenzy in the first place,(that & growing old waiting)
