[ROM] CM7 Barebones 03-29-2012 - Custom TWRP/CWM backup - Kindle Fire Android Development

This is my personal barebones backup of CM7 that was compiled on 03-25-2012 via the IngCr3at1on/whistlestop/loosethisskin" repo's. Many things have been removed and tweaked.
No personal information is on it. I have restored it to my two Kindle Fire's without issue via TWRP/CWM. Bare and ready for anyone's use.

All languages beside's English (need another language? Look at the extra section)
Install instructions:
I urge you to make your own backup before restoring this one!
Extract the contents of the download to the root of your sd card. (You will need 7-zip)
Boot into recovery. (Hold power button until it turns orange when you first power on your Kindle Fire)
To prevent problem's "Factory Reset", wipe "cache", "dalvik cache", and "system".
Flash "Step_1_CM7BAREBONES.zip" like you would any other rom, but do not reboot afterwords. Go back to the Main Menu instead.
In TWRP, Click Restore, and choose "STEP_2_CM7BAREBONES". Make sure "Data" is checked and select "Restore Now". If using CWM, click backup and restore>advanced restore>CM7_Barebones_Step2>Restore Data
Reboot and enjoy.
Click to collapse
Updating from a old barebones version:
I always recommend a clean install. But you can try without wiping.
Just Flash "Step_1_CM7BAREBONES.zip". No need to do "STEP_2_CM7BAREBONES" (nothing changed). System should be wiped and the new files copied over. If you have problem's, wipe everything and do a clean install.
Tip's on usage:
Swipe up on the homescreen to open notifications.
Swipe down on the homescreen to hide/show the statusbar.
Button Savior is at the left/middle. (can be changed). Useful when you need to exit a fullscreen app or the statusbar is hidden.
Volume Control is at the top/center. (can be changed). Slide finger along the bar to adjust the volume.
Home button on the statusbar is mapped to open the app drawer.
Note: Install a web browser of your choosing.

TWRP has that issue sometimes. Usually a hard reboot will fix you up. I would do that before trying to restore the backup again.

No good man. I was excited to try this too, it seems exactly what I wanted.

Hmmm. Looking at the logcat. I do see a error, that I do not get on my first kindle.
"07:18:26.525 Error logwrapper 1359 executing /system/xbin/run-parts failed: No such file or directory"
Let me see what I can figure out.

Awesome, thanks bud

Ok I have a round about fix that seem's a little more reliable. I will update the first post.
Edit: Editing the download links and instructions in a attempt to make this easier. Might want to hold off for the update.
Edit #2: All done. Hopefully.

i'll give it a try and report back.
Edit - Everything looks good so far. Minimalistic, liking it...

Liking this ROM so far. Good work!

does this have the features like hold the power button to pull up the big menu and the options to hide the home and back button like the other cm7 rom has?
(im new to cm7, sorry)

Cant download from the market

NK Update
NK update is just a new boot image with the kernel I have compiled from Behnaams kernel source. It enables overclocking the device to 710MHz using overclock widget from the market (not included) and hopefully should fix some stability and battery issues, but read more on the kernel itself for info.
You don't need to wipe or anything, just copy to your SD and from recovery, flash the 21NK.zip.
I'm not sure if I have set permissions correctly for the new wlan.ko module that has been compiled for use with this so let me know if wifi doesn't work. (if not, a simple "chmod 644 /system/lib/modules/wlan.ko" should fix it.)
ALSO SEE POST 3 FOR THE NAVIPANEL (CAR HOME) I HAVE HACKED FOR USE WITH BRUT MAPS (THANKS TO BEHNAAM FOR ADVICE)

Battery life was too horrid, so I switched to the Legend Build, I'm happy to release the final NeORoM1.3c which was never publically released on the understanding the re will be little to no further support for that build.

They show, yes, whether or not they work remains to be seen because I havn't bought any.
Very nice ROM.
Mostly translated Menus (german), not like the Eris leak.
Its nicely fast and more apps are running stable as in VillainROM 3.4.
I found a little graphic bug after boot when you unlock the SIM card. But its not fatal
It is possible to remove the bootsound? I dont like that.
Oh and Swype (beta leak) is force closing. But it doesn't greatly matter.
Edit.
Here is the little bug
its the same when you setting up your mail account
Edit. Uhh OverclockWidget is also force closing. Could you fix this? would be very nice
Download link is broken . Please upload in another mirror .
Edit: Now working .

1. Download MAGLDR 1.11
2. Download ROM from link above and extract
3. Install MAGLDR. Either put phone in bootloader mode or boot into Windows Mobile. Run ROMUpdateUtility.exe from MAGLDR folder.
4. Boot Phone and select in the menu "4. USB Flasher"
5. Run DAF.exe on your computer from my ROM download.
6. Once flashing is done the phone will reboot.
7. Phone should boot directly to Android in NAND.

Ohh my apologies, sir. I haven't mirrored yet but thanks for the heads-up. Sooo for every person that downloads your file from Hotfile you get paid? or is it for every time you upload? Just curious.
is this build rooted properly or do i have to use other methods to root?

Rooted proper!
How would your rate the peformance of this build? As I recall original NAND bluetopia ran pretty fast. Does this puppy fly? Homescreen/Webpage scrolling @ 60fps?
Also, can fonts be changed by dumping new fonts to sdcard\fonts folder? I didnt like the curvy font style of original topia, and would like to know how I can change them.

Something like 1 cent per download...but the more people download the higher my status goes...the higher the status the more I get paid. I think when I hit plat its like 3-5 cents per download.
Yesterday I made just over a buck

Here is my new theme- I have been using it myself on my Nexus One for a month or so now. I grabbed some images from a theme by JaiThemes (if you appreciate my work please buy one of his cheap themes on the market) and edited them to how I liked them. Then I combined in some of my own images plus some xml edits.
It is CMMOD flavour. It is still WIP and isn't a complete theme yet- only the main
So here it is- a metamorph- please use metamorph by Stericson from the market- makes theming so much easier. I have found that applying each apk one at a time is more reliable, and increasing metamorph delay in settings makes the whole morphing process a hell of a lot easier. To get the clock, notification text etc the correct colour, after applying all parts of the metamorph you need to go into CM Settings, then User interface, then tweaks extras and select this theme form the dropdown menu
MEDIAFIRE LINK:
CMMOD_HD2_Theme
Experimental v2.0
CMMOD_HD2_v2.0.zip
I have also done a CMMOD ADW theme- works well on ADW EX as well of course- although I think Anderwebs has changed the name of the folders so adding folders on EX will give a stock folder at this stage. The thing is I hate using my home screen landscape so haven't done any landscape images properly- that is planned
CMMOD_ADW
If you prefer a clear GenieWidget then here it is- still CMMOD flavoured.
CMMOD_HD2_ClearGenie
If you use Better Keyboard or Smart Keyboard Pro I also have a theme on the market for that:
CMMOD_SmartKeyboardPro_Theme

Retransfer rom to phone.
If in clockwork it says copying System and this completes in around 3 seconds you have done something wrong or the zip has not transfered to sdcard correctly.
If that does not help

FAQ:
Do I have to wipe fully if I am coming from a previous version of SB?
No, Formatting system, wiping dalvik, and cache should be sufficient. If you get Force Closes wipe fully.
My status bar is force closing, what do I do?
Go into clockwork mod, go under mounts and storage and format system
Why is my battery life so bad after flashing?
You just flashed it will get a lot better, go calibrate your battery.
When will when your next update come out?
Usually Sundays, please don't ask for ETAs.
I am getting hot reboots, what do I do?
Go into lockscreen settings, and change your lockscreen to rotary or ept.
Can I flash a different kernel?
Yes, most Epic Touch 4G Kernels should work.
E4GT HOWTO's (thanks to just_s for being awesome and writing this)
How to extract an apk from a ROM/zip (you'll need a program like 7-zip, winrar, etc.)
[*]Download the ROM/zip that contains the desired apk(s)
[*]Double click the zip and it will open in your default zip program
[*]Navigate to system/app and drag the desired apk(s) to an easy to remember location. (I use Dropbox or Minus, which makes the apk available on my phone without any further desktop steps.)
[*]If not using a cloud storage option, connect your phone to your desktop and copy apk(s) to your SD
[*]That's it, you now have the apk(s) on your phone and can proceed with double clicking and installing the app or if a system app to the next tutorial for installing a system apk.
How to remove a system apk w/Root Explorer (ROM Toolbox can also be used, but slightly different process):
[*]Open Root Explorer (or ROM Toolbox Root Browser) and navigate to system>app
[*]Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, R/W is on by default in ROM Toolbox)
[*]If this is a system app, long press existing apk and either move (if you want to keep it) or delete (if you don't care)
[*]Hit OK and your free of the undesired app.
[*]CAUTION: make sure you research before randomly removing things or you are likely to bork something. A good list of items that have/can be removed successfully in naerok's incredibly streamlined ROM can be found in Post #3 here.
How to install a system apk w/Root Explorer (ROM Toolbox can also be used, but slightly different process):
[*]Download or extract the desired app apk and place it somewhere on your SD where you can find it (I highly recommend Dropbox for this)
[*]Open Root Explorer (or ROM Toolbox Root Browser) and navigate to system>app
[*]Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, R/W is on by default in ROM Toolbox)
[*]If this is a system app, long press existing apk and either move (if you want to keep it) or delete (if you don't care)
[*]If moving, navigate to the place you want to store the apk using the Parent Folder link at the top
[*]Paste to the desired location then go to the place with the replacement apk
[*]Longpress the replacement apk and copy or move
[*]Navigate back to system>app (should still be mounted) and paste the replacement apk
[*]Longpress the replaced apk and select permissions
[*]Then leave all three in the first column (Read) checked, only the top item in the middle column (Write) checked and none in the third column (Execute). (rw-r--r--)
[*]Hit OK and enjoy!
How to extract a bootanimation from a ROM (you'll need a program like 7-zip, winrar, etc.)
[*]Download the ROM/zip that contains the desired bootanimation.zip
[*]Double click the zip and it will open in your default zip program
[*]Navigate to system/media and drag the bootanimation to an easy to remember location. (I use Dropbox or Minus, which makes the apk available on my phone without any further desktop steps.)
[*]If not using a cloud storage option, connect your phone to your desktop and copy bootanimation.zip to your SD
[*]That's it, you now have the bootanimation zip on your phone and can proceed to the next tutorial for installing/replacing a bootanimation
How to replace/add a boot animation
[*]Download or extract a bootanimation.zip
[*]Place the bootanimation.zip on root of your SD card (or use a cloud app i.e. Dropbox, Minus, Box, etc.)
[*]Make a copy of the bootanimation and name it sanim.zip and move that to your SD card as well
[*]Open a root manager app (I prefer Root Explorer)
[*]Navigate to system/media
[*]Select Mount R/W (top right in Root Explorer, on by defauly in ROM Toolbox) then either delete, or move existing bootanimation.zip and sanim.zip
[*]Navigate back to sdcard, then copy or move bootanimation.zip to system/media and then repeat with sanim.zip
[*]Some people replace only the bootanimation.zip and others only the sanim.zip, but I find each of those methods seem to create issues if the kernel you are running does not support custom bootanimations by default. So I replace both zips and it has worked well on multiple ROMs/Kernels. If this doesn't work for you, try replacing each individually. One of the three methods will definitely work for your ROM/Kernel combo.
[*]User 12MaNy has created a thread with several bootanimations available as well some methods for install
[*]Boot animation sounds can be found/added at /system/etc/poweron.wav and /system/etc/1_Power_on.ogg (may be listed as /system/etc/poweron.bak and /system/etc/1_Power_on.bak if these have been "muted".)
How to hack custom bootanimation support (Via chris41g)
[*]Rename /system/bin/samsungani to something else... (eg samsungani.old)
[*]Rename /system/bin/bootanimation to /system/bin/samsungani
[*]After that it will load whatever bootanimation is at /system/media/sanim.zip
How to add/restore/change bootanimation sounds (you'll need a program like 7-zip, winrar, etc.)
[*]Open the ROM zip that you want to run
[*]Navigate to /system/etc/ and look for poweron and 1_Power_on
[*]If they appear as poweron.wav and 1_Power_on.ogg you are good to go
[*]If they appear as poweron.bak and 1_Power_on.bak you need to rename them as above
[*]If they don't exist, you will need to add them to this location or replace them with similar sized sound files of your choice. Make sure to keep the filenames and formats as above
Stuck at a black screen, bootanimation, etc
No need to jump through all sorts of hoops. Simply download and flash Bubby's CWM Kernel in Odin 1.85. Boot into Recovery and restore nandroid, re-flash StarBurst or flash another ROM of your choice.
*Assumes you were rooted to begin with as you are in this thread and have previously flashed the ROM.

Roger that...
The ROM is nice and runs smooth. However market is not working for me, keep having device not compatible issues. Mostly properly due to 190 dpi setting but not so sure. Any idea? Thanks.
yeap...it's true...need to change dpi to 240...then clear market data...shud be ok...what I do is change to 240 then download an apps...after updated / downloaded an apps then I change back to 190...depend on yours...

Just tried to install google earth but said "could not be downloaded due to error. (492)". dpi 237 is the limit, not 240.
I'm using root explorer to change dpi to 240...no problem at all...after edit dpi make sure clear market data and reboot...

This patch works great. Market now works. I can change DPI using LCD Resolution. Great work!

just hit the thanks button below..
Hey, this 492 error is coming back again. I reset back to 240 and reinstall the patch again. This doesn't help. I google a bit and looks like the error is kernel related, not so sure. I'm using AF974-Kernel-V 3.0-EXT4 as posted on page 1. Any idea?
Cool and smooth. Thanks a lot.
Guys I need a helpful hand.
I'm new in android world but have flashed a lot of Windows Mobile devices so it's not that scary for me. I bought two days ago a Galaxy Tab 7 with Froyo 2.2. Decided to go with something newer so I've flashed it successfully with stock ROM v2.3.6. But now I don't have any idea how to flash this thing: 2.3.6-JQ8-ICSv1.zip in order to have this nice looking and useful ICS style (or whatever you call it). Odin doesn't accept zip files so figured out that it must be in some kind of boot mode so I entered into it by pressing volume up+power. Then I'm able to select this zipped ROM from the internal SD Card but when I go with 'update' option it says: "E:Signature verification failed".
What I am doing wrong
Thanks in advance

i assumed that you doesn't install cwm yet...so you need to install the kernel(at the front page) 1st via odin as a pda...then boot to cwm recovery by pressing volume up+power ..then install menu>choose zip from internal/external sdcard..reboot..

What is "cwm" and where I can find it?
How can I install the kernel (I guess you mean AF974-Kernel-P1000-V 3.0.zip) if Odin doesn't accept zip files?
