[Q] [App] Google Wallet Apk - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I was reading the instructions about installing the Google Wallet apk and it says if in US just install apk.
I purchased a unlocked GSM GN so basically I would have to root instead of just installing apk, correct? I'm on TMOUS and 4.0.2 also.

I had to use the market enabler outside the us and had to be rooted. I think you should be fine without root since you are in the US, did you try to install the apk?

I'm not rooted and can't do a nandroid. Basically scared ****less of screwing up with no backup after reading this:
Troubleshooting
Secure Element not responding!
If you have a Nandroid backup of a version of Wallet that worked, try restoring to that. Otherwise, you're screwed unless you get a new device. The Secure Element in your phone has now locked you out.

So, no, I haven't installed the apk yet.

If you're in the US with the unlocked version, you should be able to just install the apk. I did it and got no errors or anything.
The only reason why you'd have to root or anything is if you're outside the US where Google Wallet isn't fully supported.
That troubleshooting is because people are regularly flashing ROMs over and over with Google Wallet on all of them, and they're not properly disabling/restoring each time they do so, so the secure element in the phone gets wacked out.

So I have no intent of installing any rooms or rooting for that matter. I would be fine than, right?
Thanks for the clarification, by the way.

read something like this in the att forum, so its specifically gapps? and what about freezing is that a no go? Sorry im coming from a nexus one and im used to unlocked systems where you could control pretty much everything
thanks for the heads up tho
Freezing is fine. I posted one of these in the att forum as well. I'll do one in the sprint just to be sure the message gets out.
Anyway to recovery from Security Error?
There has to be more to this because I deleted Books and Movies and had no problems at all.

[Q] Mt6573 cannot root, google play not working

I got an HTC One X bootleg from China and the google play apk I installed does not work at all. I understand, I need to root it so I can install a modified version of google play. I've tried every way possible to root it using bin4ry, gingerbreak, doomlord and superoneclick to no avail.
All I wanted was to make google play work that's it. Is there anybody who can extend help? Thanks in advance...

Do you have your bootloader unlocked?
Do you have your Google account activated?
Are you 100% positive that your One X is genuine?
Which G Play are you trying to install? How re you trying to do that?
Please provide some additional info.

I don't know anything about bootloader. Sorry.
I do know I have a valid google account.
No, I was fully aware that my device is just a clone.
I downloaded the latest version of google play apk. I downloaded it to my sd card then installed it manually.
Hold volume down and power to get to bootloader. Take a pic of it, then select recovery, take a pic of that too.

please report in a comment if this method worked for you...
a little thanks never hurt anyone and sharing is caring with a little mention
I'm not able to activate NFC payments.
I tried also patching build.prop (as in previous methods) but Settings->About->Tap & Pay says "not available".
I know that transactions would be anyway declined when the wallet is used outside US, but with previous patched versions, at least the functionality could be activated.
The good thing is that everything else (sending money, loyalty, offers) seems available even without build.prop changes.

well since the NFC payment dosent work anywere in the world yet besides US so it makes no sense to get it working, but everything else is working fine so thats a big plus i guess..

You are right: there's little sense in tapping a phone to a POS and getting an authorisation decline back. Nevertheless there are those who want to try (for test purposes only )

I already had registered previously a US address, so my method was... simply to install the apk.
No need to spoof the originating country IP (Italy in my case).
And I did not delete the existing cards.
Just installed the apk and launched the app that successfully opened up, asked my usual PIN and presented the various new options (send money, etc.).
Just to be clear: I already had installed the old version patched by modaco (v1.6-R96-v13). I never tried the subsequent Xposed mod (would be curious to know if it works with v2.0-R133-v9).
So fo me it was a version upgrade and not a fresh installation...

well i dont think the modaco patched version or the xposed mod have anything to d with this because i never install any of them and when i tried my method it worked fine for me... so i guess this means my method works fine with the latest version as long as u got a us adress i think....

g Wallet does not currently work without US based SIM
I rooted S3 and installed Wallet app successfully. Tap and pay featue was also activated successfully. Changed build.prop file to Google Nexus etc. Device confirmed changes to build prop file. However, without a US SIM card, the NFC Tap and Pay will not work!
Do you have a US SIM card? I had my WiFi operational with a US IP because I live in US.
Please clarify if you did anything else special.
Thanks.

well i live in Dubai so there is no way for me to test the tap to pay option and basicly i dont need it here, thats why i didnt bother to check if it works or not or even try to activate it for that matter. but other than that the app works perfect for me.
Thanks a million dude.

Play Protect Certified: Device is not certified

Not sure if it has anything to do with unlocking bootloader, but it seems that I can't install Netflix because my device is not certified in the Play Store. Anyone else come across this issue?
It is caused by the unlocked bootloader. It has been that way with Pixels since the originals. The solutions are to root with Magisk (do not know if Magisk works with the Pixel 3 or not) or use a custom kernel when one becomes available provided the P3 works like the P and P2.
Sideload it, done.

what level is your widevine since you have unlocked your bootloader, did it change?
Actually I need to backtrack here, Netflix wont install on a rooted device and while some say it works I've never had it work with Magisk either. On the other hand you can just sideload and it will work fine rooted. I don't actually know what happens if the device is unlocked but not rooted because I've never done that. lol My bad. I would try sideloading though, it's got a good shot at working and nothing lost if it doesn't.
Just download apk file from apk mirror
Works fine

Figured, it's been this way for a fair while now and thats been the fix from the start.
Just open play store in settings\apps, clear data. Reopen the play store and see if it still says it. Might have to do it more than once. I unlocked my bootloader, and I saw that. I had to clear data twice. Now mine shows as certified.

Nope. Says it cannot complete setup because the device has been rooted or modified. And play store keeps jumping back to uncertified. Guess it won't stick. Have to wait for root. No biggie, I haven't fully jumped on the GPay train yet.

Okay, I thought something was wrong with my device. Good to know we're all in the same boat
I'm kiinda wondering if the much talked about Titan chip is going to make it harder to hide root. Some of the stuff out there is making that claim. Something related is that I followed a link to a google blog about it and the said that one of it's (Titian's) features is the ability to block unlocking. Not that it did block it, that it had that ability, so presumably it will depend on the OEM whether or not that feature is active. Was wondering where that will put the Verizon guys... Not trying to scare anyone because I haven't run into anything specific that comes from google and says exactly what it does but I know it's got my attention.

Hi
It happens to me on samsung s8 device not certified. I have tried some things( saw in youtube and foruns) and nothing.
So try this...
Open setting/apps/ and look if any app of google is disabled( chrome/gmail/play movies...) activate all from google and voila

Google pay not working.

Magisk says that my device is secure, but Google pay is not working. The payment method works when I am ordering from the Google play store. It is just my debit card. Any ideas?

I had the same issue and someone replied and said that the newest version of Google play services can detect unlocked bootloader. It works if you rollback to an older version but it may just be easier to wait until they update Magisk.

This was an issue on the stable release, so I switch to canary. As far as I know now, it should be resolved on stable with a wipe of data from google Pay but see this thread for more info - https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/discussion-google-pay-magisk-discussion-t3906703

I am on HavocOS with Kirisakura kernel. Google pay working fine with latest update for me. I have seen other people discussing non-working google pay, and switching to a different kernel solved it for them.

What happens if you don't remove your cards and just clear storage for Google Pay and Google Services? It said it can't remove my card because it's associated with a service or subscription, likely from financing my p2xl through Google. Any other work around to get Google pay working?

I updated magisk. Still isn't working. Anyone else?
Ehm I have advice because I had this problem either. Just lock bootloader and it will work. But be carefull, if you have custom recovery than there is chance to brick device.
Still ongoing with no permanent solution yet. Its likely going to take an update to Magisk to fix.
All of the workarounds are temporary for a few days before things are detected again.

thats what google wants you to do when they soft brick your phone with an update and you cant reflash it and you have to pay $$$$$$$$ to fix something you could do for free the allow unlocking option was the worst thing that has happened to android at least before this was around you could recover phone but lose data but now os bricked and cant read state of toggle rip your phone!!! so no im not re locking my bootloader to have android pay work i want it to work but not bad enough to risk my phones safety

Just a heads up guys I've actually relocked and locked my bootloader multiple times maybe 4/5 times in the past month and never experienced no hard it soft bricks always went smoothly as long as you follow the instructions. Now I'm thinking of relocking again because Google pay is actually more important to me than root but if there's an update coming to fix Google pay them I'll wait.

yes your phone wont brick from re locking the problem comes down the line for an update or something like that i have unlocked and relocked bootloaders many times too but what happens when your phone soft bricks months later after an update and it can only get to fastboot and it cant be unlocked because the phone can read the state of the togggle in the os if unlocking is allowed rip phone

Bruh just when i thought i was finally getting the hang of understanding this pixel. My 6p was so much easier to work with lol. So basically what you saying is that it's best to keep bootloader unlocked to prevent any possible bricks later down the road?
