read something like this in the att forum, so its specifically gapps? and what about freezing is that a no go? Sorry im coming from a nexus one and im used to unlocked systems where you could control pretty much everything
thanks for the heads up tho

Freezing is fine. I posted one of these in the att forum as well. I'll do one in the sprint just to be sure the message gets out.

Anyway to recovery from Security Error?

There has to be more to this because I deleted Books and Movies and had no problems at all.

If you're unlocked via freegee 0.5 you can remove whatever you want.

[Q] Verizon Xperia Play Failed to OTA! Please Help!!??

I have the Verizon Xperia Play r800x, the bootloader is unlockoed, the phone is rooted and i removed some system apps.
- i did relock bootloader
- i temp removed root
- the apps i removed were, Sims, Tetris, Visual Voice Mail, Skype Mobile
It lets me download the OTA update, after its finished, it reboots my phone and shows that its downloading. but when it turns on its still at 2.3.2 and a blue box pops up saying Update Failed! So im just wondering how can i fix this problem and update??
Any help is appreciated, thank u
Can't OTA if any pre-installed apps are deleted. That includes games.
The only way is gonna be flashing stock and starting over.

Thing is, I've seen a fair few posts with this problem now.
I have this problem, but I removed nothing. I froze, then unfroze.
Thinking it could be a bigger problem than people think?
same deal i got failed update don't know what im doing wrong i have bloatware and same, never messed with it but i do have unlocked bootloader can that be the problem?

If your bootloader is unlocked or any bloatware is moved/removed, its not gonna work, no matter what.
Theres a thread in general and a thread in development on this already, take a look.

Well, it also depends on which unlock method was used. Mine was unlocked by the testpoint method by Alejandrissimo and I was able to OTA update with no problem. But it is a well-known fact that the other methods will soft-brick if you try to update via OTA.

Go to the update thread. On page 51 follow the instructions from Rogue Leader. Did mine last night and have update and root installed.

[Q] [App] Google Wallet Apk

I was reading the instructions about installing the Google Wallet apk and it says if in US just install apk.
I purchased a unlocked GSM GN so basically I would have to root instead of just installing apk, correct? I'm on TMOUS and 4.0.2 also.

I had to use the market enabler outside the us and had to be rooted. I think you should be fine without root since you are in the US, did you try to install the apk?

I'm not rooted and can't do a nandroid. Basically scared ****less of screwing up with no backup after reading this:
Troubleshooting
Secure Element not responding!
If you have a Nandroid backup of a version of Wallet that worked, try restoring to that. Otherwise, you're screwed unless you get a new device. The Secure Element in your phone has now locked you out.

So, no, I haven't installed the apk yet.
If you're in the US with the unlocked version, you should be able to just install the apk. I did it and got no errors or anything.
The only reason why you'd have to root or anything is if you're outside the US where Google Wallet isn't fully supported.
That troubleshooting is because people are regularly flashing ROMs over and over with Google Wallet on all of them, and they're not properly disabling/restoring each time they do so, so the secure element in the phone gets wacked out.

KFHD 8.3.0 update broke root! Now what?

I turned on my kids KFHD today and saw a lock screen ad, which I had eliminated when I rooted the device. I went to titanium backup and, sure enough, no root anymore. Voodoo didnt keep it. I used a method on XDA to root in the first place but IDK if it will still work on 8.3.0 (doubt it) and I dont feel like doing a data wipe right now to find out. Does anyone know to regain root on this version? Its only a few hours old and I havent seen anything about it yet.

I was able to get it re-rooted, but it took two tries before it finally worked.
You can reflash 8.1.4, and then run Chris/Prokennexusa's OTA-Update-Defeat script to kill the update services. My 8.9 survived Amazon's OTA update and remained on 8.1.4, rooted, with Hashcode's bootloader intact. Chris's defeat script works!
Hashcode reviewed the update the and major change was to plug the security hole that allows us to use an alternate bootloader and flash new operating systems.

Thanks, might have to do that.
I rooted 8.3.0 with the same method I rooted 8.14 with.
It still works, because it's a bug in ICS that hasn't been patched.
Just saw this. I didn't check the version on mine until now. It's on 8.3, and has been rooted since I brought it home on Wednesday. I did it Wednesday night and if it updates overnight it kept root.
If not, it was on 8.3 the whole time.

I used bin4ry tool v25, It wasn't rooted, but I can install playstore, go laucher!
Went out of town and forgot to post back here. I did re-root with the original method and it DID work! I backed it up but I was surprised to find that all my data, apps, even passwords, etc were all still there after re-rooting (even after the supposed data restore) and were all working but I had regained root! The only thing missing were the kindle Books selections. Not a bad tradeoff!

no such thing as a root keeper
Not f'realz anyways. I'm on 8.3.1; gotten used to rooting the same way, THAT is nice. I initially had to fiddle w/ADB, windows 8 doesn't initially allow unsigned drivers. There's a proceedure for that. After that was fixed, the b1nary root works like a boss ...
The kindle fire first aid works well for market installation (make sure to install busy box first, b1nary root didn't, and that's easy). OTA blocking works well, I forget what I used. My update to 8.3.1 was intentional
Seems a more stable update. In fact, all the updates seem worth-while: google maps didn't gps track w/1st version, with silk installed couldn't watch amazon vod. A lot of quirks seem to be fixed, google play store and amazon app store seem to be playing well together.

Hey, fyi when you reroot, go into app settings after and clear data on the Amazon apps like Kindle, Silk, or VOD. My stuff doesn't show up even on the "cloud" if I don't do that. You'll have to redownload media, so that might stink. Not really, imo.

[Q] my phone has some malfunctions

i bought a galaxy nexus phone over 9 months ago, i didn't know about android then, but now i notice some serious problems with my phone.
first of all i tried a pattern security lock and set the time to immediate but nothing happens ever!!
then i tried to update the android but there is no check for updates in about phone!!
some really good apps won't start on my phone, it always says "unfortunately, .... has stopped" like google play store, yahoo messenger, nimbuzz and some famous games
i tried to update android with recovery mode and again there was no install zip from SD card!
is it a way to solve my problem?
What OS version are you running? Also, what Nexus do you have? There are different versions, some of which are updated by Samsung (or others) and lag behind the Google variety. Perhaps this is why you aren't getting updates.
Being that you are having multiple problems, that probably aren't linked to one cause, I would think a factory reset is in your future. You could try clearing the data and cache for the problematic apps first though.
i tried to use nexus update checker but it says your device is not nexus!!!!
also there is no google framework in app list!!! i have done factory reset but it didn't change any of my problems

What version of the OS are you running? Go to settings > about phone it should say it there, under something like Android Version. 4.X.X
What type of device do you have. I derped the link in my first post, but I have fixed it now. It has info on how to figure out what Nexus you have if you are unsure.

Are you running a custom ROM? Or anything not stock? Custom kernel, recovery, updated radios, deleted or modified a stock app....etc
You may just be best off by unlocking the bootloader (if it isn't already) and flashing the factory images for either takju or yakju.
Was your phone used when you bought it?
When you boot your phone, is there an open lock below the google writing?

New update and rooted Pixel 3 XL How to?

Hi all,
Pixel 3 XL
Android 10(QP1A.190711.020)
ELEMENTALX-P3-2.05
Have a look at attached screenshots, how would one apply the new update without messing it up, i finally have GPay working, and I really want to keep it that way.
Thanks
I cant seem to be able to upload attachments, "url can not prase" ?
Not sure about keeping Google pay, but I followed A/B slot update from here https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/blob/master/docs/tutorials.md
Everything is working fine on QP1A.190711.020.C3
You will need to reflash the kernel.
Only using systemless hosts and edge sense modules in magisk.

Good to hear.! I have a WearOS watch with Google Pay so I haven't had a need to use my phone much.
I have to get rid of ElementalX without losing all my stuff. This kernel has many bugs, my assistent won't start when squeezed anymore.
Is there a way?

How exactly have you determined that it is the kernel, and what does "many bug" mean? There are a lot of us who are using ElementalX on 10 with no issues including assistant squeeze. You can start by installing any other kernel available in the "Google Pixel 3 XL ROMs, Kernels, Recoveries, & Other Development" section (you will need to re-root) and see if it makes any difference. It would also be a good idea if you posted in the dedicated thread for ElementalX. Besides getting user answers, @flar2 will be able to answer any questions specific since it is his kernel.
As for possible issues, how you installed could (dirty, clean, OTA/OTA sideload, factory image in BL) make a very possible difference as well as what version you have installed (specifically if you installed the new c3 image). It sounds like you have a bad Android 10 install and are going to end up needing a full clean install. Good luck.
