Whats that sounds so stupid a kids rom? I watch when my kids play with my phone
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium

I would actually be interested in a kid friendly rom because I'm planning to get my baby sister an android phone soon. Probably not a gs2 though, lol... so a kid friendly rom for this phone wouldn't do me much good.

Try kid mode in the market. It's free and very good.

Why does a kid need a smartphone is my questuon
Sent from my SGH-T989 using Tapatalk

everything is pretty much kid friendly, its what you get from the market thats not. only thing is theming it..

I was thinking about this the other day. On computers not phones. I think what you gotta do is have a keylogger and the balls to confront the little ones about naughty or dangerous surfing.

No. No offence but I don't think this would be very popular. So what, whenever my kid asks to use my phone I do a nandroid and flash to a kid rom or iOS???? I don't thinks so.

Like I said earlier try kid mode from the market. It's kind of a launcher in a way. You set it up so that your kid only has access to certain apps. They can't make calls can't even run the browser unless you allow it. I have it on my phone and I love it.

Me babay. Make bebe romz, ¿k?

I was just looking for exactly that. For those that are wondering why a kid would need a smartphone etc., it's not the point. They wouldn't be using it as a smartphone. I have an old SGS1 that I don't see why I couldn't repurpose as a media-player device + for my daughter. An ipod would do the trick but 1) this thing would kick the pants off any ipod I've seen so far capabilities wise (16GB built in, microSD slot up to 32GB, bigger higher resolution screen, play whatever media format you put in it, etc.) and with voodoo sound even the sound quality is better, 2) it's not made by Apple, and 3) I've already got it. I will try the kid mode launcher another poster mentioned below but I think there could be a market for this judging by the amount of kiddie tablets etc. that are on the market now and way cheaper if you already have a device or can pick one up used. Will post back after trying the kid mode deal.

Sounds interesting. Maybe one that is baby proof. So that they can't mess things up like send unwanted messages or delete stuff or make calls. Not so I don't have to watch them but so that I don't have to keep taking it from them

Nova will accomplish all this stuff, or other apps. You just hide apps you don't want them using. Like market, system apps... Etc. The only issue would be browser. But I'm sure that could be dealt with also. And yeah.... If they are sharing the parents phone... What good would a safety rom be when I need my phone. And if it's their phone... It's simple to kid proof. My 5 year old has an s2 we didn't need anymore. It has Netflix, some games, some videos on it.... And just about every thing else is hidden. Never had an issue with her getting into things she shouldn't. As far as games that can lead you to market and purchases.... There's a password for purchases and generally I just get rid of those games.
Anyway.... No, the kids rom would never be made.... But really, once you kid proof your device... That's basically what you have. So there's no point.

what should I/do I need to know about the GS2? pros and cons please
I really love my Epic, but I know I'm going to miss my QWERTY
this will be my first full touch-screen phone so I'm a little weary
how do you guys like your GS2's?

I've had mine for about a week now (came from and EVO) I have no complaints whats so ever........... Your mileage may vary.......
Its a good device coming from the Evo. Its has a few issues like the Loss of service, but I did experience that until I rooted the device so I dont blame it on the phone.
The one problem that I do have is that it wont play most games for more than 10 to 15 minutes. But I use it for reading more than anything else and sprint and samsung are suppose to be releasing a patch next month.
I would say stop calling it the SGS2 (which, I know, it is) and get used to ET4G. If for nothing else than to know that if something is labeled SGS2 that you should. not. flash. it.
As far as QWERTY goes? Pffft. I was so worried when I got my Evo that I was going to miss QWERTY. I didn't have the Hero long enough to get used to it, then I got the Moment and got used to it (that keyboard sucked anway)....but the transition took, oh, a week or two. That was a year and a half ago and I've never regretted ditching the real keyboard. There are hundreds of 'em. Find one you like. I go back and forth between Swype and SwiftkeyX and can haul major ass on both....especially Swype. SwiftKeyX is totally worth whatever it costs. If you let it read your texts, emails and Facebook posts it's prediction is simply amazing. You barely even have to try being precise.
This phone is the epic now... If you like your keyboard, turn the phone landscape, then the keys r bigger than my gfs physical keys on the og epic

I got it last Tuesday and love the phone and size. Im using the "Go Launcher" and LOVE IT, amazing how easily it is to make your beautiful looking and functional. The only problem Im having is LOS. And battery life is not that good either but , what can you expect from a dual Core phone with a big ass screen. You can tweak it with SetCpu. But Im still trying to find the best configuration so i can have a optimal battery life.
But i must say the phone is amazing and also it also lets you uninstall a lot of the preloaded apps without rooting, something other phones and carriers wont permit.
I am also getting this phone... just ordered it tonight.. should be here no later than Wed!
I'll be switching from the Moment and lack of a physical keyboard was also something I was wondering about. Hence why I sub'd to this thread.. I wanna see what y'all have to say.

If you are coming from the Moment you will love this device. I had the moment for 6 months but I had to get rid of it because I hated it. I went to the and loved that until my charger port broke. Got this as a replacement. This is better than the Evo, considering the screen is excellent. Also it is so much lighter and thinner than the Evo and Touchwiz is not as bad as people make it out to be.
The only problem with it that I have had is the sound bug which causes some games to just quit.

Here's a little devil's advocate.
I bought the ET4G on a whim after seeing it on Craigslist for an attractive price. After using it for a week, it's going back on Craigslist and I am using my OG Epic again w/ the new Gingerbread release (and physical keyboard fixes!).
While the ET4G certainly offers a snappier Android experience and a better camera than the OG Epic, I didn't find the boost in speed or extra screen real estate to be worth the $325 I paid for the device. I think the only speed boost worth writing home about was the speed of the ET4G's stock browser. Lastly, the audio quality of SGSII is inferior to SGSI and in all honesty not worthy of a high end smartphone - this was the deal breaker for me.
Considering that you already have the OG Epic, I'd wait until the middle of next year so you can get a killer future-proof 720p LTE phone at a fully discounted price. All that said, the ET4G is still a great device!

That's one reason I haven't taken the plunge (though I tried once, and the guy at the store said he couldn't mess with my plan). When I played with it at the store, it wouldn't rotate. Meanwhile, some of the apps (especially the camera app) would go landscape and not go back. Anyone else have that problem?

PSA: If it's not made for E4GT, don't flash it!

Just browsing through the forum this morning, I've seen several threads that the basic concept is "HELP I FLASHED SOMETHING FOR THE INTERNATIONAL SGSII AND NOW MY PHONE IS FRIED".
So just a reminder: It's probably not a good idea to flash anything that is not made for your phone unless you're absolutely certain it won't mess anything up.
I always thought that was common sense, but apparently not.

If they can still get to Odin mode after flashing the international ROM it is able to be saved. The thing is you have to install the drivers from the international phone to get Odin to recognize it. I know it's worked at least once on here

I think more iphone users are starting to fall inlove with android due to 4'52, removable ram, removable batteries, easy syncing, apps, customisations. Idk they are usually getting pretty smart pretty fast after converting but allas, some new i phone user are uses to if apple will allow you to view it or download it than it will work on the iphone because 50% of evertthing is locked down and restricted and the iphone wont let you [email protected] up. They get here to android and ont realise you can do anything and IOS wont be there to hold your hand and prevent you wrong screwing up... Ehhh o well

The timing of this couldn't be any more perfect. This thread goes up, and then someone boinks their E4gT by flashing the latest leaked int'l SGS2 ICS ROM lol.
I can understand how there could be some confusion - the Epic Touch is a Galaxy S2 variant.
Even I had to do some research, verifying the battery for the Epic Touch is indeed different from the other phones, and the software / drivers are different in subtle and not so subtle ways.
But I agree, one should always read, read, read, and read more before they flash a ROM for their phone, regardless of the type of phone. Making assumptions is one sure way to brick a phone.
At the very least post a question here before doing something questionable. It never hurts to get a second opinion.
But yes, the Epic Touch is different from the Galaxy S2. Please do not use any software for the SGS2 for the Epic Touch unless it has been specifically tested and used here by others, more experienced veterans.

Good post op. I am so surprised I see so many posts about I flashed a rom and now my epic touch won't boot. Then we find out it was for the international SII. There is no reason for making that mistake. I understand its a variant if the SII but that's why there is an epic touch subforum. Its just unbelievable when I read their posts.

Seems a little ridiculous, since the ICS built in browser already syncs with your Chrome account, and a plugin sends pages that you have open to your phone (actually you can use chrome to phone with gingerbread...).
It's only available for 4.0 and up because of hardware acceleration in ICS. I just used it a few minutes ago and it takes some getting used to but I actually like it. It is much faster than the stock browser and the whole bookmark transfer is pretty sweet. I saw that someone was able to open over 99 pages before it finally crashed. Lol

Most people could care less about flash...me included. Look at the iphone, the millions of phones running without flash. It makes the browser laggy and nothing but ads in my opinion. Things you could do with Flash.
Watch NBA highlights since NBA Gametime sucks
Watch VideoBB
Watch Streaming Sports from my phone

A decent amount of things that an jailbroken iphone cant do but an android can are do are related to flash.
Im not an apple fanboy so when they decide to not include flash I think its a stupid idea and another step towards sandboxing users. Im also not a google fanboy so when they decide to not include flash I think its a stupid idea and another step towards sandboxing users

I agree. Aside from advertisers having a way to force their wares down our throats I still do use Flash for things like embedded videos in certain sites and to watch some Youtube videos that aren't available on the mobile version (still don't understand why they do that).

It's just their next gen browser. They're looking to replace the standard Android browser with this. I bet eventually they integrate chrome apps as well and try to use that to replace Chrome OS and maybe make a netbook version of Android.
I do agree and I do see where flash can be handy but it has to work good on all android phone. Unfortunetely it doesnt on the slower phones. Android has to be uniform across all phones and right now it isn't. Looking at this browser I am seeing how a browser should be. Just the option to have all your computers bookmarks synched and the option to see all windows open on other computers is just awesome. That option alone has me sold. This is a big step forward for android. The browser always leaves me wanting more. There are third party browsers but why would you have to use an third party when your running on one of the best operating systems out there. Oh and the other big thing is how it handles multiple windows this ****s on the iPhone.
You can get porn without flash...don't ask me how I know...

TSF Shell

Is anyone brave enough to drop 17 bucks on this new launcher? Apparantly it is as awesome as the videos released awhile back. Anybody have any thoughts on this? Im about to take the plunge and purchase it but would like to know if anybody else has tried it yet and feels that its worth it.
There isn't enough flashy effects or options that would ever have me drop $15+ on a launcher. To each their own. Most free or low priced launchers are plenty smooth with all the options I need or want.

Today I bought real racing 2 for £0.70 - much more worthy.

I'm not happy with it.. waste of money...if it was $2 ..maybe...trebuchet is better imo

I just used tsf for about ten minutes. I would definitely not pay what they are asking. Not only is the launcher overly complicating and a waste of ram, its overly sensitive.

i was just about to post asking about this when i saw this thread. is the epic able to handle it well?
it sounds like people are going by bad first impressions. the problem is i would be shocked if this thing didn't take awhile to adapt to. can you guys who tried it honestly say you would not come to love it once you adapt?
the functionality and looks seem amazing and i was shown the video by my friend who uses a bionic and he loves it. does it lag on the epic?
but yeah 17 bucks is steeeeep in a culture that doesn't like to pay for apps already.

For that much money id better like it right away now have to "adapt" to it. That's crazy expensive...

haha true but they show most of the features in the video so you should be going in knowing that you'll eventually be able to move everything around that fluidly, but will take a bit of getting used to. shouldn't be more than a few hours i'd imagine.
anyway i'm thinking of taking the plunge when i get home, just wondering if those who tried it got bad lag or anything on our dated phones
It actually runs just as the video does, I dnt dislike it but its just extremely complicated. Def not worth 17 bones, but having aquired it *cough* thru alternative means *cough* I can say it is a very pretty launcher.
Man, I've been wanting this Launcher for 2 months, and its 17 bucks? Forget it.
I am Z.

Heh. My GF loved the SPB launcher, but i finally converted her to ADW. Might sneak her over to GO Launcher next update.
Still, I felt $15 was to much, but $17 is just an absurd amount for just a launcher.
This Epic post was brought to you via Tapatalk
Been using this for a few days. I like it and its nice eye candy but... definitely NOT worth $17. Honestly, no launcher is.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk
the most ive EVER paid for a launcher is nova launcher prime...and that was only 4 bucks. 17 bucks?? for a phone app?? ONLY if i was rich... or maybe if i had a really nice tablet or something, but not on my epic. cm9 with nova works perfect for me. i wshould look at this video tho, now im curious to what a 17 dollar launcher looks like. anybody find it on 4shared mobile yet?? :x
unfortunately this is a terrible launcher.
It's unintuitive
Features that one might look for aren't there.
Memory hog
this are some of the falling points of the launcher, but that doesn't make it bad enough.
There is no free version of this launcher, no way to give it a test drive before you get down and dirty with it.
You MUST drop over 17 dollars on it!
WOAH!
Hold the phone a minute.
Seventeen dollars for a launcher, a homescreen.
What does it do for these 17 dollars of mine?
It launches other apps.
What else?
That's about it.
Well does it at least have some sort of cool effect that shows you're using a powerful phone capable of handling an app that costs seventeen bucks?
No. It has very simple graphics.
Why does it cost so much then?
Eh. Why not?
Bottom line:
Crappy app not worth the money.

It's real snappy yet it does cause a slight lag in other apps on mines. Although pricey...I still kinda like it.

Just a curious..after seeing this beast in action 3 of my friends went ahead and purchased the note2. Ps these were the same ones complaining that "oh do u really need a phone that big" and so on lol.

I converted 3 people.
Is it really that good? I keep hearing good things about it. But then I heard lots of good things about SGSII. Then I found out about the fluttering phantom key presses, the cheap- plastic back cover, the poor support by developers. For a "super phone" I'm really pretty jaded with this phone. What's the real 411 on the Note 2?

Cheap plastic cover still there, but if you have a case, you can't tell. Dev support is awesome for the device, the dev teams are actually very prompt in helping and replying. People use my note 2 and fall in love with it. The screen size is great for watching videos and editing word documents. It feels good in the hands contrary to what people may think. Web surfing and researching stuff online is easier with no need to zoom in. Everyone who owns one or used one has different opinions on y they like it, but they all love em

Hey I converted a few iphone enthusiasts to get the note 2. They love it.

I converted myself. For longest time I thought that Note 2 is a piece of garbage. Too big, made by Samsung, etc. Then I played around with it in store and yea, it was great.
So far, 2 iPhone users may be converting as well.
I've converted one. When I saw my 18 month old son could hold it in one hand, I tried again to convert my wife from her N4 again, but she wouldn't yield. -_-

Like you, I've had the E4GT. This phone is beyond it lol, by miles.
No phantom key presses on the N2, but as mentioned earlier..the plastic cover is still there. I'm running MIUI on my N2 right now and it truly kills anything you throw at it. Just a great overall solid phone.
I converted 4 people and they love it btw 2 were iphone lovers
I converted 2 of my partners. 1 got his on Tuesday. The other one is waiting for his tax check and he'll be getting 2 for him and his ol lady. They both had Droid Razrs. My third partner is an Apple fan. He didn't want to look at it. Maybe afraid that it might convert him. Lol
So far I've converted 6 people, 2 from blackberry, 3 from iPhone and 1 from whatever Nokia was using back in the day. I also helped a couple people make their choice when they went to a smartphone for the first time.
I found older folks really like the note 2 for the screen size and the keyboard size.
Converted 2ppl and 1 is waiting to upgrade to this phone so I guess I can say 3.

Haha this thread is awesome. Love it. Just out of curiosity how are you guys convincing iPhone users? I'm having a hard time with my friends. They're so closed minded and don't want anything that's not iPhone even after I show them the features of my note 2.

I put there iphone on top of my phone, show em how much bigger it is. They responded, "bigger isnt always better", i respond, "ask your girl what she thinks about that". Then they complain about how android doesnt have apps, then i show em every damn app they have, and how good the devs made em to fit our screens. Then they say how it cant be perfected because every android phone is different from one another and how apple phones are optimized cause theyre all the same. I tell em another historical figure wanted everything the same type....... His name was hitler... Look what happened to him. They give typical uneducated responses and eventually become quiet. Then i say "this is your last chance. After this, there is no turning back. You take the blue pill, your story ends, you wake up in ur own bed and believe whatever you wanna believe. You take the red pill, and you stay in wonderland, and ill whow you how deep the rabbit hole goes."

I've converted 4 people.
1. My girlfriend, who saw it the first day I had mine then instantly ordered hers online
2. My cousins coworker. He was #teamiphone to the fullest. He started by saying the iphone is the best phone ever invented. Fast forward a week later he pulls out a note 2 with Verizon lol.
3. My other cousin. He had a Samsung infuse 3g. Said the note 2 was too big. One day after a trip to the mall I got something to eat. When I met back up with him an hour later he had the note 2
4. My girlfriends step-mother. She too said it was too big and that she didn't like it. Lo and behold she ended up with a note 2 about 2 weeks later. I asked her why and she said she could see better on a large screen.
What I get from a lot of this is that even though people say they don't want it, deep down they are jealous inside lol

I got that same response from some of my hardcore iphone co-workers. Their iphone was like the savior of the masses... that is, until I showed them how i can have text and browse while watching videos at the same time. That's when I see their jaws drop to the ground.
The other thing that gets ooohs and aaahs is when they stop by my cube and question my nfc tag that I have by the entrance - and I tell them that with a swipe of my phone I can set up all my preferences without fiddling with the settings.
Pic of what it feels like holding those itty bitty phones. I also got a co worker who gave me the it looks your "holding a phone book to your face"..two weeks later she has a note 2. Lol.
Ps I dont see too many note 2 in the wild which I kind of like. ..makes it more a "unique club" but we'll see how long that lasts. Do any of you peps see alot of note 2's around?
