Amazon pushed back the release of the ics g9 to april.
do you have any info if this is due to the delay of ics, from februari to end of march or even later?

Not impressed with amazon but I guess its an Archos issue rather than Amazon so I got to wait till April 10th now. It better be worth it lol

This is the 1GB 1.5Ghz model available in 8gb and 16gb.
Have just ordered after confirming ram with them.
Regards
What did they confirm? 512Mb or 1 Gb RAM?
Thanks
They told me that the one specifically on that link comes with 1GB of RAM.
Thank you!
I have just recieved the one from the link and.. it is 512mb RAM -.-;
I have mailed them to find out what's going on.
CORRECTION:
I have just upgraded to ICS and all of a sudden the device is showing 893MB of RAM!!
How weird! If anyone wants any details or anything please ask

I'm not surprised... the kernel has to support 1GB memory layout and it came late in Gingerbread kernels. Probably not really functional.
How does feel the tablet ? Smooth ?
Do you have access to a 512M one to compare ?
I have access to the 1GHz model so comparisons are unfortunately not just with the RAM.
However I can say that the browser supports many more tabs now without having to reload the tab when switching - also has not caused any crashes yet.
The most noticeable thing is when launching a memory intensive program on the 512 model the launcher is pushed out of memory and has to be reloaded when returning. This hasn't occured for me (yet) on the 1GB model.
Other than this I can't think of any other comparisons for just the RAM. Of course the device is much more fluid thanks to the higher GPU and CPU clock, and the quadrant score is a fair bit higher.
The dual core 1.5GHz Archos is only slightly faster than the single core galaxy tab? Are you sure?
---------- Post added at 06:05 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:04 PM ----------
want to ask if you know the US turbo version would also get 1G RAM even if the CPU is 1.2GHz? Thanks in advance!
The Galaxy Tab has much lower blue (processor), red (memory), and yellow (graphics) score than the archos, but it has very high green (i/o) score which I think is to do with the speed of the flash storage.
U forgot to "reply me", but I saw ur post anyway... Well, I missed the color and compared the whole score, sorry about that, haha.
BTW, do you know the US turbo version also has a 1G RAM or the 512M one? Thanks!
The US turbo 1.2 GHz is 512 I'm pretty sure.
The 1.5GHz can be either 512mb or 1GB, you will have to ask wherever you want to buy it from
how about batterylife?
does anybody know if there are going to be custom roms cooked in the near futur?
thanks

is there any benefit to have 1gb ram? I can't think of anything I could possibly do to use that much ram on my tablet. does it increase overall stability or anything?
1gb really?
...are you *positive* about 1gb ram? The ARCHOS website doesn't mention it like that and from what I hear the new ones too have "only" 512mb.

if cajl says it it's probably true. besides it makes sense. all manufacturers are gonna jump on the bandwagon and make all devices with 1gb+ ram
for the 1go YES it is true - mail from Archos -

I think it's not much difference.....Into Nexus S with 512Mb RAM and only 1GHz ICS run very well almost as fluently as Motorola RAZR 1Gb RAM and with dual-core 1.2GHz
Problem is slightly different if we refer to games !

Not 1gb RAM in A80
Have just received a brand new 1.5Ghz Archos 80 G9 ref 502036 expecting 1gb RAM: system info app confirms 1.5 Ghz but only 466Mb RAM (i.e. 512Mb model).
where have you buy this model ?
Hi cajl I bought it in the UK: couldn't get it anywhere until last Friday when I got a stock notification email: now quite a few suppliers are offering it again.
Some suppliers are advertising it as 1gb but Archos on their web store do not specifiy the RAM (all with the same model number).
I have contacted Archos but honestly, the guys there do not have a clue! They have escalated my query this time however, which is, "is there a 502036 available with 1gb RAM, because my model only has 512mb".
One of the suppliers advertising it as 1gb is also following up the query for me with Archos. All they can say is that Archos notified them the new stock would be 1gb RAM but their item looks identical to mine in every way (and to the one on the Archos web-site - all the same model number of course too).
Very surprised that even with part number, model number, product ID and everything, Archos could not tell me what my RAM was: I had to download an app to find out myself.
They also insisted that unless Ice cream sandwich was pre-installed, it was not 1.5Ghz: but mine definitely is, even though it still only has Android 3.2!

I have a 501840,
Came preinstalled with honeycomb and showed only 512 RAM until I updated to ICS where it shows 1GB.
One user from this forum just had de same problem...do the update to ics and it should say 1GB...it due kernel limitations in honeycomb...
this did the trick for the guy i+m talking about...i hope

yes .. the update on ICS increase the RAM !!!!
Archos, it's a kind of magic !!!
magic indeed! Even as I read this thread, updates appear to have downloaded - but still I have 466 MB ram. Let me see if a reboot will activate the magic for me!
Is it the honeycomb update or the ice cream sandwich one?
For me, I could not update to ice cream sandwich with the tablet updater. I had to manually download the update here:
http://update.archos.com/9/gen9/gen9_4.0.4/firmware_archos_it4.aos
Download this file, connect the tablet to your computer, copy this file over onto the tablet, the tablet should ask you if you want to install the update (if it doesn't, find and select the file in the file browser on the tablet) then let it update.
Once you have Ice Cream Sandwich running you should have your 1gb of RAM.
Unbelievable: magic indeed! Tablet has auto updated (once I realised I had to request the install) from honeycomb to ICS and now has full 1gb ram (well, 'max 892Mb anyhow')!
Why o why can't Archos put this basic information on their web-site instead of just staying absolutely silent about the RAM? Only you guys, especially calj, not even Archos customer service or tech support (not at the customer interface level anyhow) have any idea what is going on! I guess the update would have happened anyway, but some of us like to know what is going on and to be sure we have got the right product.
Thanks again to all who have correctly informed me here.
Does this also apply to the 1.2GHz Turbo models? When I updated to ICS, it didn't show the 1GB of RAM, but I'm hopeful if I downgrade to Honeycomb, then upgrade to ICS that it might "unlock" it.

No, it doesn't apply to 1.2, Archos added memory very recently and it's only available on what they called ICS models.
It's not the fimrware installation that unlocks it, it's because ICS kernel is the only one that can handle it. So downgrading/upgrading won't work, and downgrading is not possible anyway.
Got my g9 101 ICS 1.5ghz 1gb few days ago. Seems like hdmi-out is completely broken for me. Tried with the official 4.04 and the test firmware no change. Have also tried keeping hdmi connected when booting the device and still nothing. Is everyone with g9 101 ics having this same issue?

Archos G9 101 Turbo 1.5GHz - qvcuk TSV

Qvcuk.com have this model as their todays special value today until midnight. It is the 1.5ghz model with 1gb ram & 8gb flash. It comes with honeycomb out out the box with instructions to upgrade to ICS. Also includes case, screen protector, stylus & software bundle all for £249.99 or you can have it on 3 interest free payments.
Seems like a pretty good deal as you can also use their 30 day money back guarantee to return it if you don't like it. I did this previously with an 80 G9 as I didn't like the screen.

When it will be available .. And at what cost?
Shipping of the first units should start around the middle of November - at least according to one reseller.
Quite a shame I went for the Vi10 Pro 64GB Z3736F, when this is coming around in a month (from China to Europe in 2 months with shipping?) for a bit extra price.

Impossible specs, cherry trail z8300 processor will not take 4gb ram ? if it was the cherry trail z8500 processor then it will take 4gb ram,so at the moment the specs are very unreal, also i thought this tablet was a 10.6 inch screen,it's down as a 10.1 ?
The price will be around $200. Pretty good for what you get if you ask me. Don't be fooled by these overpriced offers at Aliexpress. Banggood is a legit site and listed it at price below $190! And they marked the battery as a real 6800mah, not 8000mah. I 100% trust them rather than these sellers on Aliexpress having questinable reputation.
Could I technically Android and create a dual boot of windows/Linux mint on this?
I think that the real question, is wether the tablet has the z8300 or the z8500.
Because, as it has allready been said, the z8300 does not support 4gb ram
Anyone has any knowledge on that fact?

So search for "techtablets intel z8300 4g".
"
Many of the new Cherry Trail Tablets due to be released soon like the Chuwi Hi10 have Atom X5 Z8300’s in them, but with 4GB of Ram. I originally thought this must have been a typo, or it was the Z8500, as it supports up to 8GB of Ram. Well it seems the X5 Z8300 can indeed support 4GB of Ram, although Intel’s Ark claims it’s limited to 2GB & single channel.
"
see pictures of live operation system screenshots with 4GB.
The sellers "4GB" claims seem to be legit.
Eagerly awaiting the release of this to make my decision on getting one or going with the Teclast X98 Pro.

I'm not an expert, but I did see that it has an 8000mAh battery rated at 6500mAh. Not sure what that means, but it sounds less than stellar for battery life.
