This has been mentioned a few times before...its an old Epic og trick. Its not fullproof as I and a few others have tried it. No dice....

It worked pretty well for me. Not pinpoint, but close enough to actually use.

i always used this method ##GPSCLRX# and it works for me.

Yea my phone just hangs and never reboots. What rom did you have success on?

Wrong section. Your instructing people to flash an Epic Touch tar on the OG Epic. People who don't read before doing (which are common here) are going to brick their phones. Plus as far as I know I haven't heard many complaining about gps not working on cm9 for "our" device.

Dude! This is an E4GT build, not for our phones. Bad English or not you screwed the pooch here.....sorry.
Edit: I see Z already covered this.

Tried it and didn't work at all.

The way it worked for me was on a EL29 Rom...you can be on any 29...if I remember right from what I read on a different thread...When I was on fb21...no GPS...Went into Recovery from there ...restored one of my old EL29 Roms...went outside got a lock on GPS...From there went back to restore...restored ICS fb21...when it booted up ...went back to GPS and got a lock instantly...So it worked for me with that method...

Yup..an OG Epic trick that works for more people than it doesn't if clearing a GPS stats doesn't work. I didn't check the link in the OP but pay attention to what you are doing if you try it

Odin 1.85

For anyone that doesn't have it yet.
MD5: 69b41fc23052e9df82b5464928583b65
Posted new version with proper download mode notes, thanks to Kn0wBuddy, which are
hold Vdown+Power
Don't use the put included with this. I did not realize that was left in there. I will update with the correct pit once I get to my computer.
Probably a good idea posting this for those that don't have it.

Thanks! Haven't touched Odin in a while, I'm a few updates back. Good to see it'll work on our new phones... now... how come nobody has root yet?
Comming from a Evo 4g...was wondering...I looked at this and it says to hit the 1 key...I am guessing we do not need to do this for the E4T ? And I guess Odin is what we use to flash things to the phone ?
When I did the Evo, I had to do the old school root. Unrevoked and all that was not around lol..
What is Odin?
Just found out I get the phone for free with cyanogen working for Samsung will the phone be worth it or should I stick with my Evo 3d and Droid x? Plus never used Odin before really just helped people root their phones with it along time ago it just unlocks the phone right?

I think I read already. There were screenshots already posted. I should also have this Friday morning if Sprint doesn't open it up Thursday night or Best Buy even.
Correction. This was posted in E4GT General.
You get to *odin mode* by holding down volumne + and - keys at the same time along with the power key, release power key when device turns on while continuing to hold + and - keys untill the droid guy screen comes on, then release.
Glad to see you over here by the way Crawrj. I take it your upgrading as well. Look forward to your first plus kernel for this thing.

yeah like deano said, you can flash ANYTHING. once AdamOutler gets started on development for our device, we will be able to flash custom bootloaders like the Captivate can, for those who dont know, the Captivate was recently able to flash the Nexus S bootloader which means it is basically a Nexus S in disguise lol. Odin will also let us falsh stock and custom ROMs and kerenls as well as Modems (radios) plus recoveries such as CWM.
Also if anything screws up its ur way outta trouble...things such as "omg i'm bricked" and "help i'm stuck on the boot logo" won't be seen as much in the Q and A section as much... get to know Odin referring to people coming from EVO or any other phone Odin is ur new bff

Love Odin
Sounds cool. Ahh starting the learning all over again lol.
Odin is great. It was almost impossible to brick the Epic with it. If you get any kind of phone life, you can almost always get it back to stock and start again. Also, 30 seconds to flash a different modem. We had some great stock GB leaks with Busybox,Superuser included (thanks Crawrj.) Great tool.

Its really not that involved. All you do is put a tar file in "phone" and a pit file in "Pit" and select run and let it do its thing. Modems get flashed in "PDA" section and that's basically it. There is more detail but that's a quick rundown. I am not the most tech saavy myself but you catch on quick. I have used it 50+ times. I will try to run down a more thorough description.

Kernel sources? I thought we needed those. The international version as it stands now runs fine on my phone.
seeing as the international is a gsm phone, wouldn't the kernel sources be sufficiently different from our phone so as not to work? Never messed with kernels before, so sorry if it's a stupid question.

Kernel sources for everything not related to ril would help us, so Wifi, BT, GPS, etc. Since we already have 3g and SMS working, my guess is that the kernel source for the int'l SGS II could round out what we need to get an acceptable working ICS ROM.

Not entirely. The radio sources would be, yes, but the hardware drivers are the same (so stuff to get the camera and whatnot working could be used) as our phone, I think.

Samsung already stated they will be having updates by the first quarter for some devices like the SGS2 , but in the end it's up to the carriers and Sprint loves to drag it out.

People have been having issues booting back to stock or anything else for that matter. May I ask have you nandroid back to anything since booting it up? Also does your pc recognize your phone?
I wouldn't expect Sprint to have a Release of ICS for the Epic Touch until late Summer or early Fall 2012. By then, the phone will be almost 1 year old and Sprint will start saying the ET4G is "End of Life" and stop supporting it altogether.

Fortunately for us, we don't have to rely on Sprint, as Samsung will release the kernel sources we need to get where we need to go. Also, the 4.0 iteration we would get from Sprint would be TouchWiz'd up, which for me I could care less about. We will have daily-driver quality CM9 and AOSP ICS well before we see an official ICS-based ROM released by Sprint.
And before you ask, yes I have been with Sprint for a long time, and yes I came from the OG Epic 4g.

The people doing it are Odin a tar and its bricking them because they don't know what they are doing....you can use the tar file with mobile Odin pro and retain root which will allow you to use mobile Odin to flash kernel with cwm to get out of the brick but without root can't use mobile Odin...you can take the tar apart and make a ROM out of it...as long as the bootloader and radio is not in there you should be good

okay...**** man what an ordeal that was!! but i did it finally. got my phone up and running but now i have a couple of questions.
on stock rom(stock rogers rooted) shows 4g mostly but when i revert back to cm10 stable it bounces from 3g to h+. okay so i did a little comparison and while on stock it flips from HSPA+ 15 and UMTS: 3 but it only shows 4g. on cm10 it flips from HSPAP - 15 and UMTS: 3 but when it does that it shows 4g and 3g respectively. Now i know that custom roms especially this one shows "true" data and that they don't really align with the stock but i don't remember ever seeing 3g. Also, the current modem is 1747MVLLH1 but it doesn't match the two modems listed in another post titled "complete modem list" and they are: I747MVLLE8 and/or I747MLALH1. do i have the right modem?

Virgin Mobile US Jelly Bean official update, GB28.

Have any VM US users installed the official update from Kies for their "Samsung Galaxy II" (Epic 4G Touch) yet? Have you had any problems? Has anything improved? The two problems that I read about so far are:
- Google Now closing quickly. Seems there is a fix by clearing cache or reset.
- BT not stable for some audio devices.
How is your battery life, has it improved, I read one report on the Sprint device that it did.
Please let me know of your experience with the official VM Jelly Bean, id GB28 US update from Kies, good or bad, thanks.

Hi wizard, this thread is about the official Samsung update via Kies. I am not sure about VM-specific ROMs as I am not rooted.
Currently on stock ICS, Virgin has visual voice mail but it only seems to work sometimes for me. I am not sure how it will work on JB or if it will even exist on the official JB. I am pretty sure some vendor-specific features like Sprint ID and Virgin Mobile ID are lost in the official JB release.

I guess I miss understood the thread. The title implied there was a E4gT with a Virgin Mobile GB28 based rom in existence.
I am looking for a phone.apk, that used the non-visual voice mail system, which is comparable with the E4GT. I was hopping I might be able to get it from this rom.

Are you unfamiliar with the One Clicks?
The name is accurate...One click.
If it takes you more than 5 minutes to read how to click a button once, you may want to stay on the stock rom.

Synergy r484

Kinda new to the xda still trying to figure out rules. Kudos to the synergy guys tried a couple different roms and I'm addicted to this rom and is features. Just flanged the r484 and am support happy the mms issue wad fixed. Multi Window flawless. No problems with cameras. The only thing I have had issues with is reception 4g/3g. It seemed more stable with r433. Using ziggy and used custom install with pre selected synergy recs. If this post is on the wrong spot mod please fix. If someone has an answer for me greatly appreciated

Have you tried changing your modem ? Or going to a different ROM and updating prl and profile ?

Changing modem? Haven't heard that one yet. If you could elaborate on that one that would help. As for prl and profile I'll try that but I didn't have the issue with the previous build. Should I just try flashing stock and update? Then reflash. My area hasn't changed. Stock and previous r434 build I had very constant and strong 4g everywhere. With the r484 it can't make up its mind between 3g/4g. Thanks Daniel for the info

You change your modem through Odin. Been a while since I've done it (on HTC for a while there when my Epic broke it's charge port) but as I recall you put the phone in download mode, put them modem in the 'Phone' field after downloading it to your computer, and fire away. Do check the instructions first, I'm going off of memory from six months ago.... Some radios work better with some phones than others. Depends on your device.

That's probably (read:is) easier than Odin.
Thanks for the input guys. Very appreciated. I'll try that the next time I'm at the home computer and let you know.

I s-offed an Evo3D.... that was fun. I got it right the first time by some luck....
Odin is *much* easier than HTC.

I know right. I hate how the only way to root the newer HTC devices is by doing sketchy wire tricks.
Dunno about the ET4G, but my Epic was fairly easy to root. But the GS3 was much easier. My wife's Photon Q was about the same as the GS3.
I had an HTC but never played with it due to watching a friend ruin multiples of them. So I never attempted. Had my gs3 for three days before I rooted and started modding. For never doing this before and having mediocre comp skills this was fairly simple. Just want to make sure I cover my bases before doing something wrong.
