Virgin Mobile US Jelly Bean official update, GB28. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Have any VM US users installed the official update from Kies for their "Samsung Galaxy II" (Epic 4G Touch) yet? Have you had any problems? Has anything improved? The two problems that I read about so far are:
- Google Now closing quickly. Seems there is a fix by clearing cache or reset.
- BT not stable for some audio devices.
How is your battery life, has it improved, I read one report on the Sprint device that it did.
Please let me know of your experience with the official VM Jelly Bean, id GB28 US update from Kies, good or bad, thanks.

Um, using odin takes a minute or 2 at most plus the wait time for the install which is less than 10 minutes. What's really a pain is lazy people sitting around with their hand out like that dude on the interstate on ramp.

Similarly, i only meant to say that even if you are dissatisfied with the update, there are easy methods readily available to go back to the ROM you are on now.
You asking if anyone else has tried the ROM is fine. The other user complaining that it's too difficult flies in the face of everything that xda is about.

Could someone post a link to that rom. I would like to look at it.
Also does anyone know if Virgin Mobile has Visual voice mail build in, or are they still on the dial in / old indicator style of voice mail.
Thanks.:fingers-crossed:

Hi wizard, this thread is about the official Samsung update via Kies. I am not sure about VM-specific ROMs as I am not rooted.
Currently on stock ICS, Virgin has visual voice mail but it only seems to work sometimes for me. I am not sure how it will work on JB or if it will even exist on the official JB. I am pretty sure some vendor-specific features like Sprint ID and Virgin Mobile ID are lost in the official JB release.

I guess I miss understood the thread. The title implied there was a E4gT with a Virgin Mobile GB28 based rom in existence.
I am looking for a phone.apk, that used the non-visual voice mail system, which is comparable with the E4GT. I was hopping I might be able to get it from this rom.

New maintenance FW upgrade in testing - EK02 now

Looks like Samsprint is working on the next upgrade finally.... I had been looking for the .rdf files nearly daily since release and I knew Samsprint reps were full of **** when they said it would be released soon.
http://device.sprintpcs.com/Samsung/SPH-D710/EJ28.rdf
Based on OG Epic experience, I would expect at least 3-4 more internal testing releases before OTA release. I will plan to reach out to Samfirmware to see if we can get a leak. If anyone has a premium upgrade /w samfirmware, feel free to ask direct for us since I don't
For those who don't know the releases are based on letter for the month, J for October since J is 10th letter in alphabet, and the 28 is the day. So this is the first testing firmware so far and it was made October 28th.
Edit: ej31 now....

They are just files made used somewhere for sprint whenever a new firmware is created. Most the time they are internal testing so all it shows really is they are at least making updates which before now they weren't.

Switching from EVO4G to Epic Touch - Where do I start?

Hey guys,
After two years of use, I finally managed to shatter the screen on my HTC EVO 4G. Now that I'm due for an upgrade, I'm going with Epic Touch 4G as LTE network won't be in my area for another year.
I've been browsing the forums and after lots of reading, my head is spinning.
There's all these acronyms.. like FF18 I don't understand.
I'm getting a brand new Samsung SII Epic Touch 4G tomorrow from a Sprint Store.
I plan on using some form of Cyanogenmod if available.
There are TONS of root threads that I've found - Where do I start? Which one should I go with?
Sorry if it's noobie questions, but I appreciate any answers. Thanks!
Read the stickies sections in the forums. Ff18 is a ice cream sandwich build, its just the build date. F=2012 f=June 13th. Fh13= 2012 August 13th etc. Qbking77 has helpful videos on YouTube. Just read in the forums a lot and read the stickies section and you will pick it up. Enjoy the phone. It depends on what build you are on to root. Sfhub has one clicks for every build I think.

You're better off going to qbking77 videos on YouTube. He is really credible and will help you get comfortable with roms on this device. After a few roms you will more easily download and flash roms on your own.

No rom will require a modem to be flashed. As modems are sepreate from the roms. Only time you will flash a rom/kernel/modem all in one is the one click .tar odin. You can flash modems independently.

Hey guys, thanks so much for all the help.
I have successfully rooted my Epic 4G Touch and flashed CM9 Alpha 6 on it.
Thanks SO much to QBKing77 for his very intuitive and simple videos.
My next question involves CM9 and Wireless Hotspot
I noticed that whenever I activate Hotspot, my 4G disconnects and falls back to 3G.
I have searched on Google and saw that this is a relatively common problem, but is there a fix? If not, are there any other AOSP ICS-based ROMs I could use that have portable wifi hotspot available with 4G?
Thanks again guys.

I'm unsure overall. And don't worry there's no chance it will already be mb1 lol. If new out of box, it will at a minimum be at LJ7. Ma6 and mb1 have been released in the last week. The phones in box left the factory months ago and haven't been updated since maybe in a few months the new in box phones will have the mb1 update so just get ready as if your LJ7 or a previous version.

I really do not know. I went to MA6 from whatever was previous on my phone(4.1.1). then I rooted then next morning OTA MB1 and rerooted all in less than 48 hours. So i have really no way of knowing what changes were in between MA6 and MB1. There were some minor changes I noticed after updating to MA6.
Google Settings appeared in the App drawer. I think there were some keyboard modifications where there is a separate heptic feedback switch to turn on or off.
Other than that I think everything else was behind the scenes type stuff and bug fixes.

Just wanna make sure. Regardless of which baseband I'm on, any rom should work, right? Sprint roms of course. It's just that on the Note 2, some baseband versions wouldn't play nice with certain roms (cause errors, etc.). I'm seeing some roms in dev section saying, "based on ma5" or "based on ljc." Does that mean I HAVE to be on that baseband to flash that rom? Sorry for all the noobish questions but when you bounce around devices, you get confused

A brick is NOT in my future. Look I respect the fact that you've been around a while and have helped many out but just because I ask a noobish question doesn't mean I'm a noob. I've owned an OG Evo, a EVO 3d, the EVO 4g LTE, the galaxy nexus, the sg2, the gnote 2, and sg3 and many more I probably can't remember right now. I have been a "flashoholic" for quite a while, flashing roms, radios, mods, etc. I've even helped devs build flashable zips to install mods. I HAVE NEVER BRICKED A DEVICE. Maybe my question wasn't clear but it doesn't matter cuz I already updated my baseband to mb 1 and I've flashed several roms, all without incident. It seems to me that all roms work regardless of what baseband your on (as long as they are for the right device). I respect you and others on this forum and I just didn't appreciate the tone with which this came across.

T999 updadates, where we are?

is there any doc available on Tmobile website, which show us how far we are getting the S3 updates? or what updates are lined-up?
Heard about the premium suite months ago, never heard anything officially from Tmobile that when we officially will get that update.
Now other devs are working to port the S4 apps.
is there any info that devs are working to port the premium suit to port from international s3 to t999?

At this time there is no word for the 4.1.2 JB update from T-Mobile. As of now Verizon, Sprint and MetroPCS got 4.1.2 without Premium Suite built in, so I don't expect it for T-Mobile. Just my opinion T-Mobile may skip 4.1.2 and go straight to 4.2.X, again just my guess.
As much as I want to see this phone get 4.2.x, We most likely will never see it from T-Mobile.
|When Emotion Goes Up, Logic Goes Down|
|Even If You Fall Face First You're Still Moving Forward|
We will see the 4.2x update from tmobile but you're gonna have to wait a long time for it. As premium suit I think thats going to be related to the hardware. Maybe thats why none us s3 have it.. So far the only S3 that have premium suit are the quad-core version which means only the international version
If you root your phone and go to the original development section, there are a few 4.2.2 custom roms to choose from. I've been using rootbox 4.2.2 as my daily driver for quite a while. Why wait when it's only a few steps away?

Says it. Sure there are apps that can be substituted but its not the same. Yes ive ran rootbox and it is awesome but I then end up actually finding a bug that kills it for me. I've tried aokp but Kasper left. I've rooted every phone I've had and this is the first after rooting it and returning to stock that is rather keep stock everything. I'd rather wait for an update. But that's just me.

That's another one I've heard use. Because I can. I get updated info on updates, leaks, if I have issues I usually find answers here than any other place. I can help others out with issues I've ran into before. Phones and tech are my hobby sort of. I've been using xda since I've owed a my touch 3g. I used to be a flashaholic up until I got this phone. I've rooted every phone and flashed ROMs on all of them. My choice is not forced upon you as yours shouldn't be forced on someone else. I know you most likely suggested rooti ng but the op question a appeared to be asking about stock updates. I know words online can't be taken at face value compared to speaking face to face but I don't mean any disrespect. Just stating my opinion about your comment.

[ROM][STOCK][CWM][ROOTED][DEODEXED]Galaxy S III(SPH-L710)(Boost) MD7

This is a stock MD7 for the Boost Variant of the Samsung Galaxy S III, with SuperSU andBusybox installed. Apks are also zipaligned. This will not install a modem and should not wipe your device. This was built from the Samsung Official MD7 build.
Thanks to Smith058 for the find, and for letting me use it to cook with.Link to his OPhttp://androidforums.com/boost-mobile-galaxy-s3-all-things-root/753772-odin-backup-sph-l710_md7-stock.html
Thanks also to Google and XDA, for obvious reasons
Kennyglass123 - For posting guidance and all the awesome moderating he does around town
Stryke_the_Orc - For believing in me, for being a great friend and mentor, and always pushing me to do more
Garwynn - For teaching me something new almost daily, and for helping me bring more Boost support to this phone
If I have forgotten someone, please, please, let me know. I am all for giving credit where it is due.

Flashing Instructions:
This will NOT flash a modem. If you are coming from stock MD7, you will keep MD7. Same goes for whatever baseband you have right now!
1. Download zip to your sdcard
2. Reboot into CWM, TWRP, or other compatible recovery(I used CWM 6.0.3.1 Touch)
3. Wipe Data, Cache, Dalvik
4. Flash zip
5. Reboot
6. Profit
Issues:
I do not claim to be the expert on anything, especially development issues. If you notice issues, please let me know. And if you have a solution to one of the issues I've found, please, by all means, post it and you'll get the credit. Enjoy
Note: It seems when rebuilding this to fix the issues above, I've lost the "rising orange Bs" boot animation. There's still boot-up sound, and the blue Samsung animation, but no Boost-specific. If you want it, you can get it from the previous build If I get time, I'll add it back in manually, but frankly, I like not having it there, it seems to boot a little faster

A little confused.
Is this for Boost or Sprint? Will Sprint users see Boost logos and such? Or is this for people who are trying to use a Boost phone on Sprint service or vice versa?

It's for the Boost Mobile Galaxy s3. Boost has their own variant of the s3 like other carriers now.

Notorious is correct. It's for the Boost variant of the S3. And to answer your second question, yes, it will flash Boost logo, mmsc url, etc.

Glad I asked.
I'd guess that it wouldn't work well on my Sprint phone.

Actually, it'll work just fine. It'll just have Boost signature and mmsc url. Just like Boost and VM users have to change mmsc url, you would have to as well, I think. I say that, because if you check mmsc urlv on this rom, it actually reads "not set." I would be interested to see if mms would send and receive on other carriers with it saying "not set."

Quick ? JD, does my Sprint S3 will have to be on the same MD7(since it was base on that one) or can it be on a different one...i.e newer/older version.

I'm not sure I understand your question. If you're referring to your modem, then no, it doesn't have to be MD7. This is a Boost build, so you may have to change your mmsc url to get mms

So I will not lose any apps or anything if of course I don't do a total wipe I mean?
I did a nandroid just encase but wondered if it would just do the "android is updating" after installing thus all apps would be untouched.
I flashed it once I had some time it kept nagging about wanting to upgrade and was very laggy and slow compared to blazer I was running not ready to be a daily for me at least not till I have some time to remove all the bloat.

Hmmm, that's the first I've heard of that. This rom is completely stock, but yes, not debloated. I just installed es file explorer and deleted all the crap it comes with. And for the other poster, this will not wipe everything if you do a dirty flash. And I'm using it as my dd with zero issues.

Glad to hear it. I have the MG2 tar as well. Anyone interested in a deodex/debloat of that? And silver, how's the build working for you?

Over 300 downloads, thanks everyone! I haven't heard any feedback, so I'm assuming it is working ok. Let me know!
I'm wondering is this ROM a daily driver or are there any kinks that anyone can report on.
