xboarder ICS completion - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Apparently xboarder bricked his phone and Samsung wont exchange it therefore he cant develop anymore for the skyrocket but he is open sourcing from where he last left off. Since its being open sourced somebody should look into making a t989 build. It has gsm working I think.

Man I thought these were hard to brick... sucks

Well, when you're trying to develop ICS from source without barely anything, anything can happen I suppose.
Sucks that ICS development has taken a bit of a halt. I heard he made good strides too.

hah, right. total bs. and this kids, is why you don't donate until AFTER somebody has created a rom

well its not bricked according to him. the cpu is dead thats what he said since he checked it somehow. then samsung wont replace it? doesnt that seem kind of odd that they wont replace his galaxy s2? i dont see how they cant replace it, if it took a ****.

Lol...

Someone, told that there is an officially supported jtag available now. His response "cpu is dead".
I smell bull****.

I like howxda has been going down hill because people assume the worst in others. He's making something from scratch and you expectit to be perfect. bricking your phone more than once seems kind of expected when you are working by yourself and testing experimental builds in your own phone. I believe he never purchased a new phone so maybe that is why Samsung is not replacing it.

Well dude something fishy is going on because we have year warranty on our phones out the box and samsung doesnt know he mods his phone all he has to say to tmobile is his phone wont turn on.....trust they will give him a new one.. So idk whats up but our variant i dont think will ever see ics

To be honest im gonna get bashed for this but ill state some things i've notice..I've been following xboarders work since the sensation which he was accused of kanging from the CM team and threw a ***** fit hence the "they dont like me"you guys must of heard from xboarder himself. So he left the sensation community and his rom to kristofpetho i believe or was it melvin, cant remember its been awhile. Then he received a donated amaze 4g and soon enough he was working on asop ics which was never finished..Then lef tthe amaze to work on a donated skyrocket with the same tactics luring ppl to think he's building a asop ics rom..so far nuttin's been finished but a ported sense 3.5 rom for the amaze i think he kanged RC team..I say this because i seen a post NRGZ28 said about it and xboarder quickly replied pm me and that was the end of discussion..The sense 3.5 can be arguable however cause its just speculations of a post i have no real facts if its kanged..I understand he's just a kid and he's working, testing on his own but the facts is there just browse like i said i've been following him since we've had the same phones..I know im not a dev and havent put out anything but im learning and im thankful for the righteous devs that we do have.Just sucks ppl donated to him..This isnt a i hate xboarder post i have nuttin against him i just dont like shady ppl..

He sent back before. He is saying they won't do it again. He says the jtag won't work cause his cpu is dead.
I think the kid hit a wall and doesn't want to admit defeat. Considering, how he was treating the other guys trying to work on ics.
He said he was going to release a 4th preview in a day. That was a week and a half ago. So.. I think it's too hard for him.
Without drivers cyanogen and slayher haven't got an alpha build. So this kid was full of cap from the start.

Ics/samsung/iPhone4s

I think that samsung should pull out all the stops on ICS and let it loose to as many new devices that can support it as possible. Apple will give there phone the latest updates as long as the hard ware can handle it. Sammy in particular should give ICS quickly to compete with iPhones new iOs. Also to make up for the forever long wait we had to get this device. Ya they take forever but they must know its a problem and one would think there guys in samsung's "think tank" would let the company know where its lacking. Samsung's goal after all is to sell tons of phones and keep the customer happy as a fat kid at a ice cream truck ( yes there is a little pun in the ice cream comment )
xD ... Sad to say it... But the words samsung and update shouldn't be used together... Were already overdue on that LOS patch, original epic users are still on froyo as will...

no it does not
we are all hoping that Samsung tries to stick it to apple and dominate the US market similar to Nokia in the international market. I am as I think we all are that Samsung realizes that establishing support for top tier devices at minimum for 12th Months is what it is going to take. Now I say that we HOPE that they realize that, not saying they will. If that is the case, hopefully the community is strong enough to carry them otherwise for me its one and done on samsung.

isn't samsung now one of the google partners for timely updates? a bunch of manufacturers I think signed a deal with them saying they would release updates within 18 months of google releasing it(HTC, LG and others were also included). But once they release it, then the carriers usually take their sweet ass time pushing it out to us. from what I hear they gave sprint the los fix a while ago. It's sprint that's holding it up now
I believe they are on paper but I also believe that status has no bite to enforce it

Well at least Sammy isn't putting out updates like HTC. Every time I read about an update from HTC recently is says they are pulling it because of issues. Would rather an update be truly tested then just thrown at us with more problems then we started with.
Didn't the HTC Thunderbolt just get Gingerbread a year after it was released? The grass is not always greener on the other side.....
One thing that I don't see mentioned often is the fact the mobile phones are only a small part of Samsungs overall business; tv's, bd players, appliances, industrial equipment and more, are some of the things this gigantic company is involved with...Not defending their slow updating schedules and such, but, keep in mind that a company this big doesn't always focus the amount of attention on every division that they probably should.
I knew this coming into this phone, so, I am not really surprised in how long it has taken them to get updates out in the past, and, I doubt it will get much better moving forward, so don't expect them to be "first to market" when it comes to the latest and greatest software for this phone..
How about a los update?

You can remove the buttons in the launcher. I'll wait till ics is stable on are phone. Gingerbread still has it problems till i can move to it.

I currently work for an indirect sprint store. I been waiting for the ISC update. Well today my regional manager from sprint came in. He said last night around 3 am he got an update for ice cream sandwhich, and its real. He doesn't hack his phone or anything. So just wait a little bit and its coming out. I can tell you that it doesn't have face recognition, but its alot faster than the gingerbread that was on there.
Pictures or it didn't happen. Just kidding. That's great news. Happen to remember the build number. Just wondering because the first update might not contain face recognition.

I want to get excited too. Should our excitement be tempered by the fact that our device is a modified version of the GS2? The hardware is very different from the regular GSII from what I understand. Can't that cause delays?
Everyone called me a troll when I said I was going to get pushed an update early a few weeks ago, hopefully it is true, we will see. With the maintenance release just coming out though, I find it hard to believe ICS is just around the corner. Two otas in such a short period does not make much sense.

Our excitement should be VERY tempered. OG Epic users went through the same thing when GB was leaked for the i9000 (the int'l galaxy s). This time the leak is for the i9100 (the int'l galaxy s 2). I would not anticipate it will be of much use for us.

The hardware is identical to the international and att Gs2 except for the radios. Its easier said than done to convert it to CDMA without samsungs source code.

pardon my ignorance but the addition of the LED, the larger screen (even the ATT version has a different size screen and the epic is certainly larger than the international version) and the processor also varies doesn't it? Do those differences not make difference?

the screen doesn't matter they are the exact same screen just different sizes. Processor, CPU, gpu, wifi/bt chip, dac are all identical.

[Q] Are we, for sure, getting cm9?

I keep hearing we are, but I see no proof. Anything?
I am a total noob on here as well and I am not trying to be an ass when I say the following: Do a search!!
It is coming but from everything I have read on here from doing my own research, graphics drivers are a huge problem along with some other issues and CM9 will probably not see the light of day on the SGH-T989 until after Samsung releases their ICS build.
Also, it is never a good idea to ask for an ETA from any developer. From what I have heard from other people that especially holds true for Cyanogen.
I'm not asking for a ETA, I just want to know it's coming.

Seeing how well Samsung's promises of software upgrades go (on the Behold and Vibrant) I do not count on ICS being available for them at any time in the near future and definitely not in Q1. I'm sure we'll see CM9 released before seeing an official version from Samsung. At this point, between Dewizzed and CM7 I am very happy with the device and can wait (or at least try to!!).

Or maybe it is a unsatisfied owner feeling like venting/discussing the very current (and yes well covered) subject with other owners in a DISCUSSION FORUM.
Sorry but in my opinion... someone that jumps right into someone else's conversation (it is obviously not a conversation for you, you make it clear you disrespect the comment and submission) and yells "troll" is him/herself the troll.
Grandma didn't say it exactly like this but it went like this...
"if you don't have anything good to say... then STFU"
Something like that.
By the way OP... I hear ya, so do a lot of others. It pisses me off every time I see a press release mentioning some new ICS unit and here we are... still waiting. I rooted and am using a 4.0.4 that makes it "usable" but it still has crappy phone/data coverage/reception and Verizon has been promising that "patch" since early in January well before the launch day buyer's return deadline. We shouldn't have to root and take chances like that... lucky for me I'm an IT engineer and am comfortable with it but I would have been much happier with a 'bone stock" unit that works right.
There are a lot of threads on this... but then again there are always a lot of threads on everything so... whatever.
Verizon is dropping the ball big time... my only hope is that the update they come out with will be better that the leaked 4.0.4 and that is what is taking so long... and at this point in time is still not an excuse.

Luckily you're in the right place if you are tired of waiting for the OTA.

Unfortunately there's not much we can do for the official OTA though, for that you'll need to contact Google or Verizon.
