[Q] What's the best combination of custom kernel and rom for efficient battery use? - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I wanna know what's the best mix of custom kernel and custom rom that is battery efficient out there right now. Currently I am using DoomLord's kernel v11 and T.E.A.M. rom but my battery drains fast and I have tried several battery saver and task killer combinations and just manage to come up with -2.36%/hour battery usage(wifi turned off). Are there tweaks/tips for a stable underclocking and undervolting procedure? Currently I'm underclocked to 921.600 with -50mv on all frequencies/voltage settings. Need some expert advice thanks

Well I am using the stock rom and doomkernel over clocked to 1516 and it keeps the battery going all day with normal usage.

I'm using kieran's miui port and kernal and the battery life seems pretty decent, definitely better than what I was getting with stock.

Some expert advice is to get rid of taskkillers!
Who's the expert that said that? GOOGLE (not the search engine, the Android developer team)

And if u undercooked it it will last even longer

2 3 days o really???
last time i used cm7.2 unofficial it only last for 9hours....
Say no to Cm7 and Cm9. you cannot pass a day: with only modrate useage. and there are lots of bugs in both. Use Rom with Stock functions having root permissions.

Same here...with cm7.2 i have the best live on the battery..with music..10 cools a day and some min of playng games my battery last at least 3-4 days.
I use SmartAssV2...only
Yeahh... Only thing that you really can do to save your battery is to underclock your processor. The best setup in my opinion is: (But you can correct me)
*Main - 806 MAX - 245 MIN - SmartassV2
*Screen Off - 245 MAX - 122 MIN - Ondemand
*Temp > 49.5C - 320 MAX - 122 MIN - SmartassV2
*Charging - 806 MAX - 320 MIN - SmartassV2
*Battery < 16% - 672 MAX - 122 MIN - SmartassV2
Other thing is deep sleep which is on CM9 now but i have no experience on that.
Battery depends on your usage, your cpu freq, apps that running in background, and last thing i feel very draining my battery is mobile data. Try switch to 2g if you didn't need data to much.
Well for Rom I'm using phiex cm7 and my battery life is about 2 days for standard using and about 12 hours if I'm fully playing with my phone

lewa rom
I think you should try lewa rom.It has cm7 features,it is nicer, and has a better battery life
CyanogenMod 7.2 (unofficial) by KANG and phiexz is really great. the phone is really fast, stable and battery lasts a long time, more than ever before!
given that Android stock ROM 2.3.3 was a big improvement over 2.3.2, with 2.3.7 from CM7 and all of the neat things it adds, it just runs on steroids
very pleased =)

+1!
I am use the CyanogenMod 7.2 (unofficial) by KANG since RC1-b1 version, it wasn't great at that time, system obvious lag and I have to use the CPU profile 'smart.v2' on CM setting-performance, then I can't get pushed email anymore.
I installed the latest version of CyanogenMod 7.2 by KANG 20120325 this morning, it's works like a charm, no lag in default settings, really good battery time and stable. The only concern is the average available memory are about 60 MB when the Dell Voice, Hotmail, GMail running in the background.
I'm running Android Gingerbread 2.3.6(stock XXKTF) and optimized with the ROM Toolbox, and it works very well, I swore that I would never reinstall any custom ROMs because of those little bugs(data,wi-fi not working, crashes and many others). I've tried CyanogenMod 7.2, 9 and GioPro v1.6 and I've been disappointed.
I use cm7.2 and im having no problems with battry or unstable rom. I can use 1 battery 2-3 days, alwqys connected to wifi.

I've been using the "Particle ROM" on my GIO now for a while. So far, it's the most stable Custom ROM I've used, WIFI is fine, no obvious bugs and very good battery performance.

[Q] Phone tweeks on CM7.2 RC1

I'm currently running CM7.2 RC1 which runs amazingly and hardly uses any battery at all. Is anyone else using this ROM and tried installing Adrenaline Mod, Supercharged V6, or EXT4 all? I've tried but I haven't seen any performance increases after applying them. Does RC1 have them built in already?
Thanks!
If there is no performance improvements that you can see from installing the mods then I don't see a need to install the mods.
CM does not have any of the mods you listed. ext4 support has been added to the ramdisk of cm7 a few months back but it's not quite the same as the mod as it doesn't actually convert the filesystems like the mod does.
Do you use any of the mods? If you have, have you noticed any boots in performance?

I use ext4 and adrenaline. Ext4 is better internal memory management so no real user-end improvements, adrenaline has helped to speed things up for me. I feel like I can underclock a little bit more with it on.
What is your max clock now? Right now I'm down to stock speed again because I don't see a boost with being overclocked.

I found stock speeds (245/998) in setcpu or cm settings was best.
I hate to sound like a broken record but if you don't see an improvement with it being overclocked then the only other reason would be bragging about better benchmarks. Phone will run cooler at stock, more stable and probably better battery too.
And depending if you're running the kernel with cm7.2 or another kernel there are also governor settings to play with.
Thanks for your input! Now my only issue is how to check to see what is keeping my phone awake while the screen is off. Are there any apps or another way to check this? I'll attach a screenshot once I'm at a PC.

Screen Issue

I looked around and haven't seen an answer, but sometimes my lock screen won't respond and it'll stay dark.. my LED notifier will show I've had notifications or I'll hear the sound/vibe. I'd have to battery pull or just hold the power till it reboots.. Any info on this?
What ROM/Kernel are you running?
A little bit more info would be helpful

I am using Wicked ROM with the stock Kernel.
That's a 3.4 kernel issue.
You can try upping your voltage and/or OC a bit. Can also set your minimum Mhz to 486.
If those don't work, you might have to get back to a 3.0 kernel based ROM until they're more work done to the 3.4 kernel.
A full wipe and reflash could possibly take care of this but if you don't feel up to all that, Bwolf56's suggestion is a good one. Another option is to grab a different 3.4 kernel. I was having issues on AOKP's 4.2.2 milestone until I flashed ktoonsez kernel. Onedemand governor, row scheduler, uv'd 25, max freq 1134. Zero issues and great battery life
Wicked isn't a 3.4 kernel rom. It's touchwiz T-Mobile base. I'd suggest doing a wipe, check md5 and reflashing the rom.
I changed the kernel fresh install. Everything. It still happens just less often now. And it doesn't matter what combination of kernel and rom I have used so far.

[Q] best rom for batter life

i don't know which rom to flash, my battery is reallycrappy and lasts around 12 hours, i've flashed the .211 pre rooted update. I'm on a locked bootlader, any suggestions on roms with good battery life will be appreciated

On a locked bootloader?

U need custom kernel for custom ROMs. Stock kernel only supports stock ROM.
I use Trinity's ROM, it has a nice battery life (though I use custom kernel, i don't know if it will have much difference without it)
You can use Greenify to hibernate apps, it helps a lot.
Why not unlock bootloader?
U can relock it if you want.

I get a pretty amazing battery life on iHackers MIUI v5 ROM, and it is butter smooth. However, I think its for unlocked boot loader :/

Check Trinity's ROM. So far so good for me..
MIUI v5 is good but not smooth as Stock based JB.
Snapdragon BatteryGuru
Try Snapdragon BatteryGuru (download google play store). It runs an all devices with snapdragon hardware. It learns automatically and battery life could be much better.
FreeXperiaProject FXP228 - my favorit rom
because of the possibility to manually control the brightness of the display i was able to double battery life.

I agree, I've been ROM hopping and FreeXperia 228 has been the best so far in battery consumption. Also MIUI in Battery > Power Saving mode is pretty good. I've noticed a significant battery life improvement by using a firewall iptables via a firewall app like AFWall+ and just limiting apps that you know for sure that shouldn't need access to data.
afwall! is realy good. free, simple, effectiv. thanks.

Any Debloated Stock rom (just keep extended batery mode on)
or any Debloated non Stock ROM (usualy slimmer than stock but need unlocked bootloader)
id suggest my own team XCP rom but you might not like it so i Suggest you look around and try some out
Install custom kernel and add greenify.

Agni is good in battery consumption (under condition that you have disabled google search to access location & network address using xprivacy)
But I/O performance is less than the stock kernel and you can compare it using Quadrant Standard
Devil has high I/O performance in compare to Agni and stock But the overall performance, GUI effects and TW scrolling is not smooth enough as Agni
Agni has been great for me on DN3.
