{GPS FIXED} GPS is Working For CM7 Now... - HTC Wildfire S

GPS problem is fixed for cm users....
It is not by me... credit should be given to devs (modpunk)......
I dont know for your device, bt it is working on my wildfire s using CM7
..... because people using cm7 have issues with GPS... So there is a solution now....
Read this post and apply it....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23949139&postcount=234
Voila.... m loveing it now...
Now no need to install sense rom...
GPS is working perfectly...

Thanks so much for this!
I am also running CM7 on the Wildfire S (Build 7 March). The GPS works, but it seems to take a lot of time to lock into a position. Sometime son Google Maps you can see it go crazy and move you all around until it pinpoints your exact location.
I have looked at the link you posted but, and apologies for this, don't really know how to execute the code. I am quite new on this so should I use the terminal on my phone or run it from the ADP teminal?
If so, could you please add the steps necessary so newbies like me can get it to work?
Thanks so much for figuring out this one out!

1. Update "GPS Fix 1.2" from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392466
2. Edit file: "system/etc/gps.conf" using file manager (eg root explorer)
3. Change line "SUPL_PORT=7275" to "SUPL_PORT=7276"
4. Save file
END

your solution is not working for me, however standart solution posted here does the job

UPDATE: THIS FIX DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK. It does sometimes but most of the times it seems to put me in the middle of the UK f I turn the GPS on and off. I then have to run the GPS Status App to get a good location. I cannot recommend anybody to follow these instructions.
Hello boss!
Indeed, I followed the link and downloaded the ZIP file. Just install it from the recovery program and see your GPS flight! I also found interesting installing the GPS utility mentioned on the post.
Thanks for your help guys,
Yona

Gps fixed!!! (for real)
I found an actual CM7 fix that actually works... well on my HTC Wildfire S anyways
What I did is download the cm-7-20120717-UNOFFICIAL-marvel.zip (the top one) from http://code.google.com/p/cm7-wildfire-s/downloads/list onto the PC
Then download the JoyFireS ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665529
Then I unzipped both ROMs into seperate folders
Then because they fixed the GPS configuration files in the JoyFireS ROM I then used the windows search to search out all the GPS files and used them to replace the ones in the CM7 zip in their respective directories (and there's also a location one under one of the GPS files, it says location on it)
Then I Rezipped it and installed it using Clockworkmod Recovery
Then to be sure i installed the Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.1 (the top one) on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132412 via clockworkmod as well... I think it works without it but I like a faster GPS Fix
Then I enjoyed a fixed GPS (and a sense of achievement) :victory:...
I will attach the finished zip when I can figure out how i can do it... I'm a noob at this and I don't know how to post this up, in the mean time you have to go the hard yards...
Credit to the people that made the CM7 zip, the JoyFireS zip and the GPS Fix Zip... I am honestly a noob at this and I'm surprised this works... well for me anyways
Just note that while indoors the GPS is much less accurate and that it tends fix on a false location, best use outdoors only

*Updated: Aug 8th* "Complete" Verizon GPS Fix/Custom Rom Install

Many people before myself have addressed this issue! Their has been post about how to fix verizon gps and many relies to "GPS NOT WORKING, ECT.." Regardless their are people that still have questions and very still unclear on how to resolve.
I've had this issue as well and fixed it many of times I have also been on the question side of things it sucks not knowing what going on... I figured I would attempt post the fix and answer as many questions regarding this issue as possible. Please feel free to pm me for missing info and or a better explanation of what is written. (I'm not perfect)
This Post is Geared to people who can NOT use GPS because of verizon "software disabling". If your not sure you can use gps please look below to Side Notes for testing.
If your gps works and you need guidance on how to flash a custom rom! Start From Step 3
Definition of GPS Types
*aGps this uses an internet connection to triangulate with distance from radio towers. Process time for location lock ruffly 5-15 sec(not this topic and verizon attempts to block these attempts)
*Gps takes a moment to lock on to multiple satellites to triangulate your location. Process time for location lock ruffly 2-4 min(Weather Dependent)
Read The Entire Post Before Attempting
DO NOT LET CUSTOMIZATIONS RUN
Install Instruction
Download Step1 Flash/Unlock with 0.40.coke (necessary for Step2)
Download Step2 **Load Unlocker & Flash Older ROM without GPS (This resolves Issue)
*Reset with pin-hole just before customization
Download Step3 Flash/Unlock with 2.31.coke (necessary for Step3)
Download Step4 **Load Unlocker & Flash Verizon Stock Rom (Strongly Recommended)
*Reset with pin-hole just before customization
Download Step5 **Load Unlocker & Flash Newest Radio Available (I recommend 3.42.3 or 3.42.5)
*Reset with pin-hole just before customization
6.1 or 6.5 Step6 **Load Unlocker & Flash at least 2x any custom rom (I Recommend NFSFAN's Rom)
*Allow Customization to Run Fully for Custom Rom's
*Install A GPS app of your liking (I use and Love tomtom/Garmin, nsfan always includes GPS viewer for testing)
Side Note
As each rom is installed if you accidentally let it startup fully dont worry its ok, Its just very important not to Let the Customization Run. After Step4 or Step5 you can install the below Cab's to test if issue has been Resolved. If you need to use active sync during these steps make sure to Remove from Airplane Mode and or Un-check option under USB to PC (fast syncing) Also Step 1 & 3 Coke Un-locker's are not compatible to x64bit systems. There maybe a way to get around or another version of coke unlocker, its just unknown to me. If anyone here knows of a way PLEASE let me know!
Gps Testing Cab's

*After install go into the Connections -> Manage Exsisting -> General Tab --> Delete Connection
*After that is done, Goto Start -> System Tools -> Open Advanced Config
*Press Menu -> Press "Import provisioning XML" Search for mxipupdate_oemoperators_102.provxml,
(Should be located in the Windows Root Directory)

Provisioning phone 1st time
Your phone needs to be authenticated(*228 Option 1)! There are many way to resolve this. Tech support can manually have you add an Akey(26? hexadecimal code). Online Activation VZW Site or I prefer this method,
Attempt to make a phone call. You will Receive a VZ Error with a 800 number to call. Call this number and Explain
"I Just installed my phone and its not authenticating to make phone call. Unfortunately I'm on the phone in question and do not have an alternate to contact you with. Can you please fix this?, I have a few important phone calls to make!"
After which they will place you on hold and may explain giving you "temp authentication". This is not true is permanent. Process Including Hold time Usually is resolved with 4-8min
Side Note Thanks to -Digital Doug
After following the above instructions if your phone needs to be authenticated still and you speak
to verizon tech support! They will instruct you to dial ##778 to get your phone to open up a hidden configuration menu.
This doesn't work with NSFAN rom's. You need to dial ##778# instead. Its a small detail

thanks for such informative writing, i myself really don't need the gps on my phone that bad, but it can come handy sometimes and i've been hesitating to do this fix because i heard that downgrading radio can mess up the phone, but i think i'll give it a go sometime this week and will report back.
Quick question: i always flash my phone from the SD Card since day 1, because for some reason the Laptop disconnect the USB sometimes, so.. is it safe to unlock from SD Card as it is to flash from SD card??
thanks again.
I have never flash from the SD card not sure what you mean
Ive also have that usb disconnecting issue with all of my vouge like its loose on the mini usb connection. All i do is plug it in and dont touch it till its done. But if you where to accidently disconnect the usb for any reason. No worries coke unlocker will cover this issue and just reload and try again.
Well i followed your instructions to the T. And i was beginning to write how its not working. But then i noticed that it started picking up satellites. So YES. SUCCESS. IT DOES WORK! Just a side note how do i get rid of the Bell logo when i first boot up?
Also, what steps did you follow afterwards to get your internet and mms up and runnng?

Bell Logo is something to be removed when flashing a Custom rom. Me personally i don't care to change it but from what i understand its just swapping a file in the custom rom and then proceed with a normal flash.

Sounds like your trying to load the sprint rom from activesync. You should be loading it though the "Coke Unlocker boot loader"
Make sure to follow the steps above. Btw also if you have follow the step be sure your download is not corrupted!
Any suggestions with me not being able to receive data? I am using 3.42.5 radio. Should i try 3.42.3 to get the data to work?

Accidental Double Post
Generally speaking when doing alot of flashing you may loose your A-Key settings! which should be fixed buy using verizon's *225 function but sometime must be manually entered by their Tech support team.
You can also call them and say im on the phone and need to make an important phone call can you please unlock the phone. They may say its temporary but its a lie. LOL
Did you use the MMS Cab and follow the instruction because that will restore your data connection information! If so reinstall try again
Btw Dont worry its just a minor software setting it will work
Wow are you unable to help me with my issue. my data access doesnt work period. i keep putting in my username ([email protected]) and password (vzw). And i still havent connected? Please help me!
did you flash the original Carrier Rom?
did you try the mms cab?
I never said i was unable to help you tell me what you have done so far
also try this cab
Download Verizon provisioning cab by NSFAN
Well. I was waiting for a response and figured i try flashing it to the original ROM and let all the customization run first. Then started from Step 1. So thats where i am at right now. Step 4
And i finally got it working. GPS, phone, and data. Had to put a freakin 26 digit authentication code from verizon.
Yeah next time pm me bro, but of course it always nothing to worry about great community here and their is always someone to help.
Ill edit the original post later with all the information we covered. When I do if you have input of your experience you think i should add let me know.
Going forward when you flash to a newer verison of a custom rom you will NOT have to authenticate to verizon or call them for that matter at all. The only necessary steps are
installing mms cab, gps cab, restoring back-up contacts, and any other custom apps you perfer (I do this on a regular basis I swear its much easier )

Thanks for mentioning this, Unfortunately I ran into this issue as well with 64bit systems. I was unable to find a resolve to this issue I always keep atleast one of my rigs on win xp for compatibility issues such as what you see here. Although if you can find out please let me know that way I can add it here to the post.

I myself dont waste my time with aGps because verizon blocks theses efforts when possible to force you to use there software.. Sprint does not do this I believe so technically you can make it work easliy you just need the settings I would refer this this post

they cover aGps settings specifically. GoodLuck
Great Walk Through
I did this a couple of nights ago and am absolutely thrilled that I can now use my GPS. I have been searching for weeks, and this was great. I do have one problem though. My battery life seems to be horrible, anything you would suggest to maybe help with this. I also can't seem to keep activesync from opening back up. This site has helped me so much and Im sure it will do the same in the future.

1) do not overclock
2) do not tamper with the phone immediately after boot, leave it alone for a while (30 secs, 1 min)
3) do not fill the desktop with widgets, they eat lots of resources
If none of these works, while still NOT overclocking, delete data.img file inside andboot folder and start from scratch.
Cheers.
Pretty strange, since I have a Sprint TP2 and Wifi works perfectly.
You might want to start by renaming your data.img to something else to back it up, and then starting up. If after you boot Wifi works, then you know something is messed up in your data.img. Otherwise, you know it's something else and you don't need to wipe out your data.img.
Wifi can also easily get bungled if you update your kernel and don't update your modules file.
The kernel (zImage) and modules (modules-xxxx.tar.gz) go hand-in-hand, and they MUST be updated together.
1. Formatted SD Card with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool
2. Deleted exchange inbox folder in SD Card (I have no idea why the formatting does not wipe it clean)
3. copied ProjectAndroid2.2Froyo.112210.cab to root of SD Card
4. Ran cab from explorer
Ran ProjectAndroid from WM
Ran Update
RHOD400
Cdma x
HW3D X
N AM DIAL X
Getting the following message:
Unable to scan for networks
WPA Wifi is on in WM
I renamed the data.img file... still does not work

I hard booted my TP2 to factory settings, used the .rar files instead of the .cab...
getting the same message "Unable to scan for networks".
Yes, I am getting the same error when I try to turn on wifi in settings.
The instructions in xda is a bit misleading for .rar
The steps say
1. Unzip
2. Copy contents of .Rar to the ROOT of your SD card
When you unzip, the content is in folder "XDAndroid2.2Froyo.112210" sub-folder "XDAndroid2.2Froyo.XXxxXX"
The instruction should say, "Copy contents of "XDAndroid2.2Froyo.XXxxXX" to the root of SD card.
Please correct me if I am wrong. In any case, my wifi still does not work.
Have you tried updating manually? Also, you should get an 'andboot' folder if you go into that XXxxXX folder.
I also found a mistake with Reef's build... I asked him to update it. Basically he's not using a signed FRX03 image... I sent him a new bundle, doesn't look like he's updated it yet tho...
What I'd recommend in the meantime is to update this build manually. Download a new system.ext2, new kernel (zImage/modules - they go together!) and rootfs.
You can find all of those updates at http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Main_Page

GPS DEAD

I am on FlexReaper, changed my server to Austria via FastGPS, using WiFi, have a clear view to the sky for more than 25min....I have tried everything!
The saddest thing is that my A100 does not see even a single satellite! Is there a manual way to reinstall the GPSs driver or check if it is faulty?
Please help me, I am desperate!
You should have posted this in the FlexReaper thread it is one thread above. Or the general section.

Have you tried the GPS fix? I had to reinstall it manually after I did a reset. it's just an lto.dat file that goes into /data/gps IIRC. Also GPS status is an app that is included with Flexreaper it can be useful to see what is going on with your GPS reception.
This link has the info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636757
and has eww245 said if you are able to you should post this kind of stuff into the Flexreaper thread.
Sorry for the wrong place! Could you remove or move it?
As I have already installed RF1 and the patch is included then I have no luck with it as well. Could you please tell me how to manually do it? There is nothing clear in the theme you have posted and I am NO pro!
Thank you
I have downloaded first the patch but it said errr already patched? Then I have downloaded and copied the lto.dat file.
Still NOT even a single satelite!
Should I make resets,formats?

Did you reboot the device after putting the ito.dat file into /data/gps? Mine went from almost never getting a sync up when using Navigator app to always working(still takes a min or two when I first enable GPS) but then it works like a charm. In fact the battery on my old Nuvi w200 finally gave out on me so I'm using my tablet as navigator all the time now.( still need to find/make a good mount for it) and does GPS status show any satalites? Also GPS Status(the app) also has some features inside the menu that will reset some stuff that might help. GL wish I had more things to suggest. If non of this works I'm guessing you may have a harware issue with your GPS, but I don't have enough info to be sure of that.
Is "Use Internal GPS" selected under "Settings > Location services"? I don't know how, but last time I flashed a rom it wasn't selected, nothing was, so when I tried to use the GPS it would obviously fail.
Don't know how common that is, but sometimes stupid little things like that can give us the worst headaches.

Sure, What I did was look inside /data/gps on the tablet and I didnt see ito.dat. So I extracted the ito.dat out of the Flexreaper ROM .zip. You will find the file inside data/gps within the .zip file also. Take this file and copy it to /data/gps on the tablet. This can be done via root explorer, script manager etc, or via a terminal.
Assuming you extract the ito.zip from the .zip and place it into a micro sdcard and the root of the card, the following command would work to copy it via terminal emulator.
su
cp /mnt/external_sd/ito.dat /data/gps/ito.dat
It may or may not fix what ever issue you are having but it's worth a try and easy enough to do.
If you are on latest flex-A100-reaper , type in terminal.
Su (enter) gps-update( enter) and this will update your lto file for gps.
Normally it is done automaticly.
But all this information is in OP of flrexreaper.

If this does not help, try the following:
1. Install Terminal emulator for tablet
2. Turn off the GPS on the tablet: Settings -> Location services -> GPS satellite - uncheck
3. In the terminal the following commands:
Code:
su
echo 254 >/sys/EcControl/GPSPower
4. Turn on the GPS, Google's location service and WiFi on the tablet. Wait 5-10 minutes for the GPS data updates on the tablet (most likely it will be much faster).
Following these operations my tablet finds satellites within 10 seconds after turning on.

[REF] & [Q] My A100 adventure, and why is my GPS not working?

I just got a refurbished A100 earlier this month, I had wanted something that was able to be used
has a GPS when traveling, and a Android PC when at home when attached to a HDMI monitor,
the Android PC setup works well with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, however the Microsoft
bluetooth mouse that I have stops working after it sets still for a bit, and I have to manually reconnect, I
hope to find a mouse that auto reconnects or does not time out, the only other problem I have
with the Android PC setup is that one of the HDMI TVs I have, an old Sharp 720p TV, the TV I needed
to use for this, the top and bottom of the screen are cut off, and this TV has no adjustments for that,
but the A100 works good on a newer Vizio 1080p TV that I tried.
Here are the steps I took to unlock, root, install recovery and CM, copied from my notes.
I installed the drivers and rooted the A100 using:
Full root for A10x and A5xx ICS. Simple method.
I noticed that at this step my superuser will not update from within the superuser app.
I then unlocked the boot loader using this:
[How to] Install unlock bootloader for A100/A101
It happened so fast that I missed it and had to run the commands
"fastboot oem unlock"
and
"fastboot reboot"
after getting back into the bootloader using the Quick Boot app.
I then installed TWRP from:
[RECOVERY] [OFFICIAL] TWRP 2.2.2.1 for Acer Iconia Tab A100
then used TWRP to wipe and install CM10 from:
[DEV/WIP] CyanogenMod 10 Preview
and the Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100 from:
[DEV] [KERNEL] UNOFFICIAL - Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100
and the Gapps file gapps-jb-713.zip from:
http://d-h.st/I1K
After logging into my Google account and downloading a filemanager,
and letting it do a few updates, I used TWRP to make a backup from
my real SD Card.
I then ran/installed "jb-mount-swap.sh", Crossix's mount swap modded for CM10 by pio_masaki,
got that from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29592981&postcount=101
I put the "jb-mount-swap.sh" in "/etc" then changed permissions on the "jb-mount-swap.sh"
to give it everything, I then updated BusyBox and Superuser, and used Script Manager to
load "jb-mount-swap.sh" on every boot.
UPDATE
"jb-mount-swap.sh" Should be placed into "/system/etc"
The next problem was the touch screen sensitivity was crazy and the tablet was hard to use,
It was not like that in ICS.
I found this:
[Q] Screen too sensitive
And tried this first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22777698&postcount=65
I used "Acer Liquid Settings", found the app over at:
[APP] Liquid-settings v 1.3 final
and it sometimes worked but I still had problems, so I tried "TouchRecalibrate"
from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20189952&postcount=52
and seems to work a little better.
Tips and Fixes:
I had the CM10 launcher Trebuchet endlessley crash after changing some CM10 settings,
so I wiped the Trebuchet settings by going to "Settinga/Apps/All/Trebuchet/Clear data"
I then downloaded and installed a different launcher, I used Nova.
If you change the lcd density the Play store might start showing "Your Device Is Not Compatible With This Item"
you may be able to fix by going to "Settinga/Apps/All/Google Play Store/Clear data", and doing a reboot, you
may also have to change the lcd density back to the way it was, on my a100 its set to "160"
You can load a TEXT file from the Android browser by typing: "file:////mnt/external_sd/YOUR-TEXT-FILE.TXT"
or "file:////mnt/sdcard/YOUR-TEXT-FILE.TXT"
I had some wallpaper problems until I placed the wallpapers into "sdcard/media/wallpaper"
and used the APP "image 2 wallpaper"
My Problems:
My GPS doe not work, I have tried all the fixes that I can find, but my GPS just will not work, I have tried
[DEC.05.2011] Instantaneous GPS Fixation v1.2! *FOR ALL ANDROIDS PHONES!*
[GPS][Fix] Automate long term orbit data download
AGPS Patch Iconia 3.1 & 2.2 | GET BACK TO RAPID GPS LOCK, CAN LOCK ONTO MORE SATS
I have been using GPS Essentials and GPS Test to try and get a GPS lock, I never get anything, I tried with and
with out a case, I tried leaving it set out side for about an hour, it never got any satellites.
GPS UPDATE
My GPS now works, all I had to do was re-flash the ROM, Kernel, and Gapps, I made a backup
before I re-flashed my rom using TWRP, and restored "Data" only from that backup right
after I re-flashed, that restored my APPS, and passwords.
HDMI and Bluetooth Mouse UPDATE
I found a HDMI to VGA converter that works well, it also outputs audio, here is the link
SANOXY HDMI to VGA and Audio Converter (Support 1080P, Input HDMI, Video Output: VGA, Audio Output: 3.5 mm-outs)
It only converts HDMI to VGA, it does not scale anything, but the video and audio are both good,
however video is a tad soft looking, might be the cables I am using, you do have to adjust the monitors
settings, but I was able to fill the screen, I tested a a few monitors with the converter box, the Viewsonic
vs11354 I have worked fine, an old NEC LCD1560NX did not, and the Sharp 720p TV that I had problems
with HDMI, worked well threw its VGA with some screen adjustment.
I also got a Motorola Bluetooth Mouse SJYN0817A, it works well and does not die on me, it also pairs
without a pin like the Wii Remote controler, it was cheap, I think they are getting rid of them.

I knew about both guides, but this was from my own notes, that I wrote for my self,
I take notes on stuff I do like this for two reasons, one is if I screw up, the other
reason is if I forget.
I often use the Web browser to open a text file containing my huge WiFi passwords
and such, so that I don't have to retype them, this is done before I have a
file manager, and often downloading and installing a file manager is the next
thing I do.

I appreciate your addition to the A100 forums. Several of your links are broken on my end. As for the GPS, I would suggest a full wipe and reflash as a starting point.
Edit : I'm assuming GPS was working fine on stock?

I got the tablet refurbished and then let it do the OTA updates, the very next thing I did was
root, install recovery and CM, I only used it about a day or so with ICS and only installed what
I needed to, I never thought to test GPS, I guess I can try to backup, then wipe and reflash.
Thanks for pointing out the bad links.

I swear that TouchRecalibrate does nothing! lol
I had to do some google searching and there are a lot of reports saying that you must follow the instructions carefully, and than it says recalibrating and does nothing, no matter how long you let it set.
I may be wrong.
Now Liquid Settings, I set the sensitivity to 0 and it did help.
Thanks for those! Pretty cool.

I get two problems with sensitivity, touch is too sensitive, and I get rapid touches from a single touch,
TouchRecalibrate does seem to help, but not completely, as it seems to help the most with the rapid
touch problem, and not very much for the sensitivity.
I also would not doubt the pseudo effect, but from what I understand the TouchRecalibrate APP is made
for the ViewSonic gTablet that seems to share the same resolution and CPU, its just that the screen sizes
and PPI are different, so there is a possibility of it working.

Cool man glad it fixed it for you. Enjoy
I just had something odd happen, I started having trouble changing the wallpaper,
then the "jb-mount-swap.sh" stopped working, some games and apps also stopped
working, and it froze and then spontaneously rebooted on me a few times, I tried
rebooting and changing the directory of the "jb-mount-swap.sh" file thinking I had it in the
wrong place, I tried placing the file in both the internal and external storage and rebooting,
I even made sure the permissions were correct, then out of the blue the A100 only booted
to a blank screen, and would not boot into android, so I booted into recovery, factory
wiped, installed CM10, the Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100, and Gapps, then
restored my "Data" from my backup, and it seems to be working, I wonder what happened ?
If the mount swap is removed or stopped from running it can cause allot of issues with apps. The mounts go back to normal so apps lose their data and info and go insane.

I had the storage card problem again, shortly after the last restore, this is what I did to fix it.
I put "jb-mount-swap.sh" into "/storage/sdcard1/" and made sure the permissions were correct, I then
checked Script Manager's "List" it showed a few phantom "jb-mount-swap.sh" from when I tried using
other directories, so I deleted all of them, then with Script Manager I selected "SU" and Boot" icons for
"jb-mount-swap.sh" and pushed the "save" tab, I then updated Superuser and BusyBox, and its working,
hope it stays that way. :fingers-crossed:
You do know that's supposed to run from /system/etc? I'm surprised its working at all considering you're remounting the partition its sitting on.

I had put "jb-mount-swap.sh" into "/etc/" not "/system/etc" I wonder if thats why I had problems,
it does seem to be working good in "/storage/sdcard1/" I have not had any problems, but I will
move "jb-mount-swap.sh" over to "/system/etc" to help keep any future problems to a minimum.
/etc and /system/etc are linked, so that's fine.

"jb-mount-swap.sh" stoped working after I moved it into "/system/etc" but the superuser APP shows
that it gave root to SManager just after boot, and when I use SManager to run "jb-mount-swap.sh" I get
"mount: Device or resource busy", I then reboot, and the "jb-mount-swap.sh" is working, so I reboot again,
and "jb-mount-swap.sh" stops working, its does this:
(1) "jb-mount-swap.sh" not working
(2) Reboot
(3) "jb-mount-swap.sh" is working
(4) Reboot
(5) "jb-mount-swap.sh" not working
Did you update smanager to run it in the new location?

Just for a test, I copied the "jb-mount-swap.sh" to another directory, then deleted
"jb-mount-swap.sh" in "/system/etc" I then made sure that "jb-mount-swap.sh" was
not listed under SManager's "List" or "Favorites" then I copied the "jb-mount-swap.sh"
back to "/system/etc" and set it to run with SManager again, I still have the problem,
so the next thing I tried was using SManager to change the "jb-mount-swap.sh" file
permissions, so I used SManager to remove all the permissions for "jb-mount-swap.sh"
and then add them back, rebooted a few times and it still has the problem.
I tried reinstalling SManager, did not help, I tried using ROM Toolbox to run the script at boot,
but still have the same problem.

Hi Loney,
Installed just now and all seems well so far - well done!
John
I'd like to suggest an addition to the backup method that many folks are using - always test your restore, but dont test it (the first time) on your device.
Your backup file should be about 2 gig.
find a 2 gig or larger flash drive or sdcard and restore your backup image to that drive.
when you're done, there should be 8 partitions, as there were on your Nook to begin with.
If you can't get that working - you're not ready to root yet. Until you're sure you can restore, don't start making changes, please.
People turn up all the time having screwed themselves over by restoring a partial backup and not knowing it, or having restored only one partition from a complete backup and having blown out the partition table.
Out of curiosity is this listed as Glow only just because that was all you had to test it on?
I have the non-glow version so was going to test it, is there any reason why this may be a bad idea or has anyone else tried this yet? Thanks

You are spot on. I didn't want to cause problems for people. Is your firmware 1.2.0? its firmware differences which are most likely to cause a problem. If you have a good backup, give it a go. If it works great. If not, you could try sending me your framework.jar file and I can try and find out what the differences are. Good luck!

Thanks for posting this. Very useful for people who aren't familiar with the nook. I will mention your name and this post when I update my guide with this information.
Also, the US nook touches - both the NST and NSTG - are now going to be running under OS 1.2.0 per BN.
The BN support announcement on this is here:

Hopefully, we'll wind up with net fewer folks quasi bricking their devices.

This is great news. Everyone will benefit from some constancy across all devices.
Thanks, yes my nook is 1.2.0 so I've now installed the ROM on my non-glow light and it looks like it works fine! Seems stable and could start using it straight away, the only fault was opera wouldn't load/didint install properly but I followed the guide and re-installed it and it now works
I think the simple layout is really great, although one question, I plan to add the kindle app. Will I be able to add it to the "book" symbol (ie when I press the reading book it'd be nice to get an option of barnes&noble or kindle)? Im sure there is probably a legal reason why it hasnt but i think a kindle app would be good to include as standard, since kindle is one of the most popular ebook services and I bet most people have some books they'd want to access
Great work on the ROM!

In my next update you will be able to customise the launcher as you like. The fact that you cant is a bug that can be fixed by clearing the launcher data using the included titanium backup program.
Since i'm back from the hell of the "bricked nook", now i can come back to test your mod with more understanding.
It seems that if we change the language to all but english, the installation of the mod is doomed to a blank launcher. (that was the case for registering the nook i have to do it in english).
I reflash my nook after setting it in english and that correctly installs everything (not Opera but that's easy to recover it).
may be a note for foreigners who try to install this mod is to be aware of keeping the nook in shakespeare's mother tongue.
would you mind integrating in your future version the manga reader "perfect viewer"? fastmode.apk is also a request but now i understand that is not so easy.
thanks for your contribution. :highfive:
I'll report my experience using this technique. A few days ago, I purchased a US Nook Simple Touch (non-glow) which came with software v.1.0. I made a backup using the method referenced in the OP. I then upgraded to software v.1.2 via the manual (USB mode) method shown at http://www.barnesandnoble.com/u/Software-Updates-NOOK-Simple-Touch/379003175/ . I made another backup. I verified both backups using the SD card method as suggested by roustabout. Everything looked good.
I followed the OP instructions and was successful in installing TFU_ALPHA3.zip with CWM.
Upon reboot of the NST, I saw a dialog chooser asking me to select either the standard Nook software or Launcher7. I first tried Launcher7 and was greeted with a large gray "n" background. Nothing else. The only button that had functionality was the "n" button which brought up the "home" menu at the bottom of the screen. This got me back to the standard Nook software. So at least the reader still worked.
I rebooted and tried Launcher7 again, just to be sure. Still nothing but the large gray "n" background. No apps.
I restored my v.1.2 backup without any problems, and am now back to a "stock" NST. All good.
So while the TFU_ALPHA3.zip installation proceeded without incident, I didn't see any apps that I could run from Launcher7. I guess I'll have to try a different technique.
it seems like the same problem i said in my previous topic. did you set your language to anything but english?
i had the launcher7 without anything loaded. I had to set the language in english then reinstall the TFUAlpha3 to make it work correctly.
hope it helps.

I have the US version of the NST. I couldn't find any way to change the language in the settings.
fastmode is working but we have to set it manually. i read this here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1241419, and i tested it.
Code:
adb shell
# cd /sys/class/graphics/fb0/
# echo -n 1 > fmode
# echo -n 0 > pgflip_refresh
since no-refresh and fastmode are autoexclusive i set pgflip_refresh to 0.
values are lost when the nook reboots.
New version coming soon. Lets start a list of requests guys. And if anyone has tested custom graphics settings, what works for you?
Loney,
Things that aren't working for me:
* Launcher 7 settings can't be altered (changes don't "save")
* apk installs are hitty-missy. Sometimes moving an apk into /data/apps and rebooting will work, other times I need to install it again by clicking on it in a file explorer.
* Fast mode app does nothing (but we knew that...)
Other than that, all is cool. I have also installed the patched .jars from the "mod manager" thread and they work alongside your changes.
Well done for your efforts on our behalf. Shout if you want anything specific testing - I'm confident that I can recover from "bricking"!

I haven't tried this yet, but when I do I would imagine access to google markets would be needed.
A follow-up on my experience which may (or may not) help getting this to work with the US NST (non-glow). Yesterday, I decided to give GlowNooter (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1675706) a try. Suspecting that it wouldn't work out-of-the-box, I deleted /system/framework/framework.jar from the glownooter.zip file. Installation of the .zip succeeded, and I was able to run ADW Launcher. I added my account to YouTube, attempted to sync in GMail, rebooted, and installed the PART-2-END.zip. Then I tried to open up Market, but kept getting connection errors. I also tried the Browser app, but was unable to enter text into Google's search page. So I guess there is stuff in glownooter's framework.jar file that is needed for everything to work. I didn't try too much more.
Anyway, I reverted to the stock NST 1.2 software for now. But I am happy to help with testing new firmware since I'm pretty confident about restoring to stock software.
