GPS DEAD - Acer Iconia Tab A100

I am on FlexReaper, changed my server to Austria via FastGPS, using WiFi, have a clear view to the sky for more than 25min....I have tried everything!
The saddest thing is that my A100 does not see even a single satellite! Is there a manual way to reinstall the GPSs driver or check if it is faulty?
Please help me, I am desperate!

You should have posted this in the FlexReaper thread it is one thread above. Or the general section.

Have you tried the GPS fix? I had to reinstall it manually after I did a reset. it's just an lto.dat file that goes into /data/gps IIRC. Also GPS status is an app that is included with Flexreaper it can be useful to see what is going on with your GPS reception.
This link has the info
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1636757
and has eww245 said if you are able to you should post this kind of stuff into the Flexreaper thread.

Sorry for the wrong place! Could you remove or move it?
As I have already installed RF1 and the patch is included then I have no luck with it as well. Could you please tell me how to manually do it? There is nothing clear in the theme you have posted and I am NO pro!
Thank you

I have downloaded first the patch but it said errr already patched? Then I have downloaded and copied the lto.dat file.
Still NOT even a single satelite!
Should I make resets,formats?

Did you reboot the device after putting the ito.dat file into /data/gps? Mine went from almost never getting a sync up when using Navigator app to always working(still takes a min or two when I first enable GPS) but then it works like a charm. In fact the battery on my old Nuvi w200 finally gave out on me so I'm using my tablet as navigator all the time now.( still need to find/make a good mount for it) and does GPS status show any satalites? Also GPS Status(the app) also has some features inside the menu that will reset some stuff that might help. GL wish I had more things to suggest. If non of this works I'm guessing you may have a harware issue with your GPS, but I don't have enough info to be sure of that.

Is "Use Internal GPS" selected under "Settings > Location services"? I don't know how, but last time I flashed a rom it wasn't selected, nothing was, so when I tried to use the GPS it would obviously fail.
Don't know how common that is, but sometimes stupid little things like that can give us the worst headaches.

Sure, What I did was look inside /data/gps on the tablet and I didnt see ito.dat. So I extracted the ito.dat out of the Flexreaper ROM .zip. You will find the file inside data/gps within the .zip file also. Take this file and copy it to /data/gps on the tablet. This can be done via root explorer, script manager etc, or via a terminal.
Assuming you extract the ito.zip from the .zip and place it into a micro sdcard and the root of the card, the following command would work to copy it via terminal emulator.
su
cp /mnt/external_sd/ito.dat /data/gps/ito.dat
It may or may not fix what ever issue you are having but it's worth a try and easy enough to do.

If you are on latest flex-A100-reaper , type in terminal.
Su (enter) gps-update( enter) and this will update your lto file for gps.
Normally it is done automaticly.
But all this information is in OP of flrexreaper.

Development?

If this does not help, try the following:
1. Install Terminal emulator for tablet
2. Turn off the GPS on the tablet: Settings -> Location services -> GPS satellite - uncheck
3. In the terminal the following commands:
Code:
su
echo 254 >/sys/EcControl/GPSPower
4. Turn on the GPS, Google's location service and WiFi on the tablet. Wait 5-10 minutes for the GPS data updates on the tablet (most likely it will be much faster).
Following these operations my tablet finds satellites within 10 seconds after turning on.

1) do not overclock
2) do not tamper with the phone immediately after boot, leave it alone for a while (30 secs, 1 min)
3) do not fill the desktop with widgets, they eat lots of resources
If none of these works, while still NOT overclocking, delete data.img file inside andboot folder and start from scratch.
Cheers.
Pretty strange, since I have a Sprint TP2 and Wifi works perfectly.
You might want to start by renaming your data.img to something else to back it up, and then starting up. If after you boot Wifi works, then you know something is messed up in your data.img. Otherwise, you know it's something else and you don't need to wipe out your data.img.
Wifi can also easily get bungled if you update your kernel and don't update your modules file.
The kernel (zImage) and modules (modules-xxxx.tar.gz) go hand-in-hand, and they MUST be updated together.
1. Formatted SD Card with HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool
2. Deleted exchange inbox folder in SD Card (I have no idea why the formatting does not wipe it clean)
3. copied ProjectAndroid2.2Froyo.112210.cab to root of SD Card
4. Ran cab from explorer
Ran ProjectAndroid from WM
Ran Update

HW3D X
N AM DIAL X

Unable to scan for networks
WPA Wifi is on in WM
I renamed the data.img file... still does not work

That is the one I use on my sprint tp2. Works awesome. I can even wifi tether. Did you download the one at the bottom of the page from Nov. 22?

I hard booted my TP2 to factory settings, used the .rar files instead of the .cab...
getting the same message "Unable to scan for networks".
Yes, I am getting the same error when I try to turn on wifi in settings.
The instructions in xda is a bit misleading for .rar
The steps say
1. Unzip
2. Copy contents of .Rar to the ROOT of your SD card
When you unzip, the content is in folder "XDAndroid2.2Froyo.112210" sub-folder "XDAndroid2.2Froyo.XXxxXX"
The instruction should say, "Copy contents of "XDAndroid2.2Froyo.XXxxXX" to the root of SD card.
Please correct me if I am wrong. In any case, my wifi still does not work.
Have you tried updating manually? Also, you should get an 'andboot' folder if you go into that XXxxXX folder.
I also found a mistake with Reef's build... I asked him to update it. Basically he's not using a signed FRX03 image... I sent him a new bundle, doesn't look like he's updated it yet tho...
What I'd recommend in the meantime is to update this build manually. Download a new system.ext2, new kernel (zImage/modules - they go together!) and rootfs.
You can find all of those updates at http://xdandroid.com/wiki/Main_Page

Updated version to enable Unknown Sources

This is the latest release of my fix (June 14, 2011). This version addresses the Market ID and Moto Blur issue.
This version does not require the use of scripts on the phone. It uses ADB and sqlite3 (both are included in the zip file).
I created a new thread here because the older version was so full of bugs and comments about said bugs I figured it was time to start fresh, seeing how I am using a different method (the method I should have used to begin with) for this hack. Also, this should have been in development to begin with.
I have not had a chance to test the latest version, aside from verifying the awk command works as exptected. The rest is a strong educated guess, mixed with a re-tooling of it to just use Android Debug Bridge to do what I was having scripts do in the past. Should be much more reliable.
IF YOU DECIDE TO USE THESE INSTRUCTIONS: PLEASE, read through this page entirely from top to bottom at least once prior to doing anything. This way, if you are unsure on anything, you can ask the questions you need answers to. I am not liable for anybody messing up their phone because they didn't think to read the F'n manual prior to following these steps.
If you don't read this through completely before starting, and you brick your system, Don't come crying to me. I warned you.
This version makes it close to impossible to brick the system, but I left that bit in to cover my arse.
If you do not have the phone rooted, download the second zip file, and install the drivers found below:
Motorola Driver(install before you run the batch file)
You will need to enable USB Debugging:
On your phone,go to Settings->Applications->Development->Check "USB Debugging"
Latest version installs busybox for you, but if it doesn't, the script will pause for you to check, and tell you how to quit out of my script before proceding. If you have issues with that, let me know. I haven't tested this version, but by all accounts, it should be more reliable than my previous iterations, with the plus side of not having to purchase an app.
I have not tested it, so you may still need to tell it to install, but it should install the apk.
1. Download the attachment located in this post.
Unzip to a folder on your desktop.
PLUG IN YOUR PHONE NOW!!!
Double click on the batch file ("enable_unknown_sources.bat"). You may have to run as administrator, but I don't think so. Built on Windows XP (I'm a linux guy who wrote this at work in a couple minutes)
When it prompts for you to OK the super user for "unknown", look at your phone. It should have a prompt. If not, it may be ok. We will see....
once your phone has rebooted, you phone will have "unknown sources" enabled already. Don't worry about rebooting. The batch file did that for you.
Quite a bit less work than before. Good news: it's done! never to worry about it again...unless you upgrade....
DISCLAIMER:
DO NOT FOLLOW ANY OF MY STEPS IF YOU ARE UNSURE OF WHAT YOU ARE DOING! I have done my best to ensure that the instructions are accurate, but I made mistakes in the first revision, so who's to say that I didn't miss something this go 'round as well? If you decide to follow this walk-through, your actions are an agreement to not hold me liable if your phone becomes a pretty brick. I am not responsible for what you do with this information. If you have no idea how to do any portion of these instructions, you can either walk away (best idea), or ask for help here.
I am also not the 2nd shooter on the grassy knoll, nor am I the cause of all your woes throughout life. I always wanted to say that in a disclaimer.
Thanks to Vahnyyz for reminding me that I forgot to have you enable USB Debugging.
IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS:
Have you installed the Motorola Drivers?
Do you have Debugging enabled?
If the answer to the 2 questions above are "yes, damnit! Give me a good answer, and stop wasting my time with these stupid questions", then you will need to tell me at what point the scripts fail. I will look into the problem as fast as I can.
so I tried the program you put on and everything because I haven't been able to root my phone as of yet, but the file I downloaded that included rooting did not work, everytime I ran the application it stated that "Device Not Found" and my phone is connected through USB at the moment.
Forgot a part
Thanks for letting me know about your issue. You need to do the following:
Ensure you have installed the drivers on you computer
Ensure USB Debugging is turned on
To enable USB Debugging, (on your phone...duh) go to Settings->Applications->Development->Check "USB Debugging"
as soon as I run the. bat file, command screen tells me to make sure that busybox is installed, which it is, to unplug phone, go to, busybox and install. Wife's phone is already rooted, once I hit next, "unknown" will pop up on the screen for a second and then....nothing.
Need to fix that to state "....after you ensure busybox is installed, plug phone back in"
Just plug the phone back up prior to proceding
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App

It appears that the update file I generate is incompatable with the updater built into the version of ClockWorkMod I am running. Anybody have a newer build of the CWM I can use for testing?

{GPS FIXED} GPS is Working For CM7 Now...

GPS problem is fixed for cm users....
It is not by me... credit should be given to devs (modpunk)......
I dont know for your device, bt it is working on my wildfire s using CM7
..... because people using cm7 have issues with GPS... So there is a solution now....
Read this post and apply it....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=23949139&postcount=234
Voila.... m loveing it now...
Now no need to install sense rom...
GPS is working perfectly...
Thanks so much for this!
I am also running CM7 on the Wildfire S (Build 7 March). The GPS works, but it seems to take a lot of time to lock into a position. Sometime son Google Maps you can see it go crazy and move you all around until it pinpoints your exact location.
I have looked at the link you posted but, and apologies for this, don't really know how to execute the code. I am quite new on this so should I use the terminal on my phone or run it from the ADP teminal?
If so, could you please add the steps necessary so newbies like me can get it to work?
Thanks so much for figuring out this one out!
1. Update "GPS Fix 1.2" from here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1392466
2. Edit file: "system/etc/gps.conf" using file manager (eg root explorer)
3. Change line "SUPL_PORT=7275" to "SUPL_PORT=7276"
4. Save file
END

UPDATE: THIS FIX DOESN'T SEEM TO WORK. It does sometimes but most of the times it seems to put me in the middle of the UK f I turn the GPS on and off. I then have to run the GPS Status App to get a good location. I cannot recommend anybody to follow these instructions.
Hello boss!
Indeed, I followed the link and downloaded the ZIP file. Just install it from the recovery program and see your GPS flight! I also found interesting installing the GPS utility mentioned on the post.
Thanks for your help guys,
Yona
Gps fixed!!! (for real)
I found an actual CM7 fix that actually works... well on my HTC Wildfire S anyways
What I did is download the cm-7-20120717-UNOFFICIAL-marvel.zip (the top one) from http://code.google.com/p/cm7-wildfire-s/downloads/list onto the PC
Then download the JoyFireS ROM from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1665529
Then I unzipped both ROMs into seperate folders
Then because they fixed the GPS configuration files in the JoyFireS ROM I then used the windows search to search out all the GPS files and used them to replace the ones in the CM7 zip in their respective directories (and there's also a location one under one of the GPS files, it says location on it)
Then I Rezipped it and installed it using Clockworkmod Recovery
Then to be sure i installed the Qualcomm Vision GPS Driver v1.1 (the top one) on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1132412 via clockworkmod as well... I think it works without it but I like a faster GPS Fix
Then I enjoyed a fixed GPS (and a sense of achievement) :victory:...
I will attach the finished zip when I can figure out how i can do it... I'm a noob at this and I don't know how to post this up, in the mean time you have to go the hard yards...
Credit to the people that made the CM7 zip, the JoyFireS zip and the GPS Fix Zip... I am honestly a noob at this and I'm surprised this works... well for me anyways
Just note that while indoors the GPS is much less accurate and that it tends fix on a false location, best use outdoors only

[REF] & [Q] My A100 adventure, and why is my GPS not working?

I just got a refurbished A100 earlier this month, I had wanted something that was able to be used
has a GPS when traveling, and a Android PC when at home when attached to a HDMI monitor,
the Android PC setup works well with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse, however the Microsoft
bluetooth mouse that I have stops working after it sets still for a bit, and I have to manually reconnect, I
hope to find a mouse that auto reconnects or does not time out, the only other problem I have
with the Android PC setup is that one of the HDMI TVs I have, an old Sharp 720p TV, the TV I needed
to use for this, the top and bottom of the screen are cut off, and this TV has no adjustments for that,
but the A100 works good on a newer Vizio 1080p TV that I tried.
Here are the steps I took to unlock, root, install recovery and CM, copied from my notes.
I installed the drivers and rooted the A100 using:
Full root for A10x and A5xx ICS. Simple method.
I noticed that at this step my superuser will not update from within the superuser app.
I then unlocked the boot loader using this:
[How to] Install unlock bootloader for A100/A101
It happened so fast that I missed it and had to run the commands
"fastboot oem unlock"
and
"fastboot reboot"
after getting back into the bootloader using the Quick Boot app.
I then installed TWRP from:
[RECOVERY] [OFFICIAL] TWRP 2.2.2.1 for Acer Iconia Tab A100
then used TWRP to wipe and install CM10 from:
[DEV/WIP] CyanogenMod 10 Preview
and the Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100 from:
[DEV] [KERNEL] UNOFFICIAL - Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100
and the Gapps file gapps-jb-713.zip from:
http://d-h.st/I1K
After logging into my Google account and downloading a filemanager,
and letting it do a few updates, I used TWRP to make a backup from
my real SD Card.
I then ran/installed "jb-mount-swap.sh", Crossix's mount swap modded for CM10 by pio_masaki,
got that from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=29592981&postcount=101
I put the "jb-mount-swap.sh" in "/etc" then changed permissions on the "jb-mount-swap.sh"
to give it everything, I then updated BusyBox and Superuser, and used Script Manager to
load "jb-mount-swap.sh" on every boot.
UPDATE
"jb-mount-swap.sh" Should be placed into "/system/etc"
The next problem was the touch screen sensitivity was crazy and the tablet was hard to use,
It was not like that in ICS.
I found this:
[Q] Screen too sensitive
And tried this first:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=22777698&postcount=65
I used "Acer Liquid Settings", found the app over at:
[APP] Liquid-settings v 1.3 final
and it sometimes worked but I still had problems, so I tried "TouchRecalibrate"
from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20189952&postcount=52
and seems to work a little better.
Tips and Fixes:
I had the CM10 launcher Trebuchet endlessley crash after changing some CM10 settings,
so I wiped the Trebuchet settings by going to "Settinga/Apps/All/Trebuchet/Clear data"
I then downloaded and installed a different launcher, I used Nova.
If you change the lcd density the Play store might start showing "Your Device Is Not Compatible With This Item"
you may be able to fix by going to "Settinga/Apps/All/Google Play Store/Clear data", and doing a reboot, you
may also have to change the lcd density back to the way it was, on my a100 its set to "160"
You can load a TEXT file from the Android browser by typing: "file:////mnt/external_sd/YOUR-TEXT-FILE.TXT"
or "file:////mnt/sdcard/YOUR-TEXT-FILE.TXT"
I had some wallpaper problems until I placed the wallpapers into "sdcard/media/wallpaper"
and used the APP "image 2 wallpaper"
My Problems:
My GPS doe not work, I have tried all the fixes that I can find, but my GPS just will not work, I have tried
[DEC.05.2011] Instantaneous GPS Fixation v1.2! *FOR ALL ANDROIDS PHONES!*
[GPS][Fix] Automate long term orbit data download
AGPS Patch Iconia 3.1 & 2.2 | GET BACK TO RAPID GPS LOCK, CAN LOCK ONTO MORE SATS
I have been using GPS Essentials and GPS Test to try and get a GPS lock, I never get anything, I tried with and
with out a case, I tried leaving it set out side for about an hour, it never got any satellites.
GPS UPDATE
My GPS now works, all I had to do was re-flash the ROM, Kernel, and Gapps, I made a backup
before I re-flashed my rom using TWRP, and restored "Data" only from that backup right
after I re-flashed, that restored my APPS, and passwords.
HDMI and Bluetooth Mouse UPDATE
I found a HDMI to VGA converter that works well, it also outputs audio, here is the link
SANOXY HDMI to VGA and Audio Converter (Support 1080P, Input HDMI, Video Output: VGA, Audio Output: 3.5 mm-outs)
It only converts HDMI to VGA, it does not scale anything, but the video and audio are both good,
however video is a tad soft looking, might be the cables I am using, you do have to adjust the monitors
settings, but I was able to fill the screen, I tested a a few monitors with the converter box, the Viewsonic
vs11354 I have worked fine, an old NEC LCD1560NX did not, and the Sharp 720p TV that I had problems
with HDMI, worked well threw its VGA with some screen adjustment.
I also got a Motorola Bluetooth Mouse SJYN0817A, it works well and does not die on me, it also pairs
without a pin like the Wii Remote controler, it was cheap, I think they are getting rid of them.

I knew about both guides, but this was from my own notes, that I wrote for my self,
I take notes on stuff I do like this for two reasons, one is if I screw up, the other
reason is if I forget.
I often use the Web browser to open a text file containing my huge WiFi passwords
and such, so that I don't have to retype them, this is done before I have a
file manager, and often downloading and installing a file manager is the next
thing I do.

reason is if I forget.
I often use the Web browser to open a text file containing my huge WiFi passwords
and such, so that I don't have to retype them, this is done before I have a
file manager, and often downloading and installing a file manager is the next
thing I do.

I appreciate your addition to the A100 forums. Several of your links are broken on my end. As for the GPS, I would suggest a full wipe and reflash as a starting point.
Edit : I'm assuming GPS was working fine on stock?

I got the tablet refurbished and then let it do the OTA updates, the very next thing I did was
root, install recovery and CM, I only used it about a day or so with ICS and only installed what
I needed to, I never thought to test GPS, I guess I can try to backup, then wipe and reflash.
Thanks for pointing out the bad links.

I swear that TouchRecalibrate does nothing! lol
I had to do some google searching and there are a lot of reports saying that you must follow the instructions carefully, and than it says recalibrating and does nothing, no matter how long you let it set.
I may be wrong.
Now Liquid Settings, I set the sensitivity to 0 and it did help.
Thanks for those! Pretty cool.

I backed up, then wiped, then reinstalled CM10, Kernel and Gapps, and then restored "data"
only, from the backup I made earlier, let it reboot, and now GPS works, I got 9 satellites
a few seconds after walking out the door WOW.

I get two problems with sensitivity, touch is too sensitive, and I get rapid touches from a single touch,
TouchRecalibrate does seem to help, but not completely, as it seems to help the most with the rapid
touch problem, and not very much for the sensitivity.
I also would not doubt the pseudo effect, but from what I understand the TouchRecalibrate APP is made
for the ViewSonic gTablet that seems to share the same resolution and CPU, its just that the screen sizes
and PPI are different, so there is a possibility of it working.

Cool man glad it fixed it for you. Enjoy
I just had something odd happen, I started having trouble changing the wallpaper,
then the "jb-mount-swap.sh" stopped working, some games and apps also stopped
working, and it froze and then spontaneously rebooted on me a few times, I tried
rebooting and changing the directory of the "jb-mount-swap.sh" file thinking I had it in the
wrong place, I tried placing the file in both the internal and external storage and rebooting,
I even made sure the permissions were correct, then out of the blue the A100 only booted
to a blank screen, and would not boot into android, so I booted into recovery, factory
wiped, installed CM10, the Jelly Bean optimized Kernel for A100, and Gapps, then
restored my "Data" from my backup, and it seems to be working, I wonder what happened ?
If the mount swap is removed or stopped from running it can cause allot of issues with apps. The mounts go back to normal so apps lose their data and info and go insane.

I had the storage card problem again, shortly after the last restore, this is what I did to fix it.
I put "jb-mount-swap.sh" into "/storage/sdcard1/" and made sure the permissions were correct, I then
checked Script Manager's "List" it showed a few phantom "jb-mount-swap.sh" from when I tried using
other directories, so I deleted all of them, then with Script Manager I selected "SU" and Boot" icons for
"jb-mount-swap.sh" and pushed the "save" tab, I then updated Superuser and BusyBox, and its working,
hope it stays that way. :fingers-crossed:
You do know that's supposed to run from /system/etc? I'm surprised its working at all considering you're remounting the partition its sitting on.

I had put "jb-mount-swap.sh" into "/etc/" not "/system/etc" I wonder if thats why I had problems,
it does seem to be working good in "/storage/sdcard1/" I have not had any problems, but I will
move "jb-mount-swap.sh" over to "/system/etc" to help keep any future problems to a minimum.
/etc and /system/etc are linked, so that's fine.

"jb-mount-swap.sh" stoped working after I moved it into "/system/etc" but the superuser APP shows
that it gave root to SManager just after boot, and when I use SManager to run "jb-mount-swap.sh" I get
"mount: Device or resource busy", I then reboot, and the "jb-mount-swap.sh" is working, so I reboot again,
and "jb-mount-swap.sh" stops working, its does this:
(1) "jb-mount-swap.sh" not working
(2) Reboot
(3) "jb-mount-swap.sh" is working
(4) Reboot
(5) "jb-mount-swap.sh" not working
Did you update smanager to run it in the new location?

Just for a test, I copied the "jb-mount-swap.sh" to another directory, then deleted
"jb-mount-swap.sh" in "/system/etc" I then made sure that "jb-mount-swap.sh" was
not listed under SManager's "List" or "Favorites" then I copied the "jb-mount-swap.sh"
back to "/system/etc" and set it to run with SManager again, I still have the problem,
so the next thing I tried was using SManager to change the "jb-mount-swap.sh" file
permissions, so I used SManager to remove all the permissions for "jb-mount-swap.sh"
and then add them back, rebooted a few times and it still has the problem.
I tried reinstalling SManager, did not help, I tried using ROM Toolbox to run the script at boot,
but still have the same problem.

[Q] MTP USB Device?

I thought I was doing great after uninstalling bloatware. However, when I tried to connect my Note 2 to my PC via USB I received the error that MTP USB Device driver could not be loaded. Apparently I must have uninstalled something on my Note 2 that is not allowing me to connect to the PC via USB. I have been searching for days, read many postings with the same problem, downloading various Driver apps to no avail. I even downloaded and installed Samsung Drivers which also did not work. I still can use my USB plug from NOTE 2 to my Flash Drive to get stuff transfered to/from Note2/PC.
It never ends. Fix one thing and then another pops up. LOL
What else can I say except - H-E-L-P.
What de-bloater tool did you use ?
Does it show the apps it uninstalled ?
By default any de-bloater should only delete apps from /system/app and
/data/app.
Have you considered starting over by flashing root injected stock Rom?

I did not use any de-bloater. I used Titanium Backup Pro (TBP) and have a complete list of all apks uninstalled.
In TBP under Backup/Restore all apks uninstalled are listed. Plus, I kept a list of all that I deleted.
No, I have not considered starting over by flashing root injected stock ROM. Thought about it, however, if I
do flash, I'm back to square one.
If I don't resolve this one problem, I will remain at this point until new OS comes out. I do have a work around for time being.
I do appreciate your help, time and concern. Thank you.
What really amazes me is that this problem is all over the Internet and I can't find a simple solution. I have Googled it,
been on here doing searches, reading postings, etc. I have even tried Driver Booster.

Sometimes we miss something small and obvious. Have you disabled USB debugging mode in Developer options?

Can you check your phone setting by dialing *#7284#?
Method 3 on the link below.

Tried this and again no success.
Method 3 – Ensure you have the right settings By default my phone was already set to the right settings for USB file transfers so I’ll assume most of these ship with the same configuration, hence why I have this as method 3. I found this on a forum and while it did not work for me, it seems a few other folks declared it a success.
1. Launch the phone key pad on your note and press *#7284# (don’t forget to start with that * symbol!) When you press the last pound sign (#) this will bring up an option that will allow you to change your USB connection settings (modem or PDA) – change it to PDA.
I did not get any option that allowed me to change the USB Connection settings when I entered *#7284#. So I dialed that number and got an error Unable to process request.
Tried new USB cable and it still tried to load/install device drivers but not successful. Same error MTP USB Device Failed.
Thanks again for trying to help. I do appreciate your help and time. Still looking for a resolution.

Yes, I do have Phone UTL as shown in TBP. How do I access it? I can't under the Method 3.

I am trying to find out if you have all the files and compare with my files to find out why I can access phone utility and you can't. Your issue may be the driver or files idk. Tbh, I am not an expert. Just another android enthusiast trying to help. I have Tweaked Rom so mine may be different. I have found 2 system files in TBU, Service Mode and MTP Application. Do you have them also? Does service mode work for you when you dial, for example, *#0011#?
SUCCESS-Thanks to Y-O-U!!!!
