Rogue Recovery. What else is there? lol.. - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I find it completely hilarious that this phone and the development makes no sense.
Like this thread for example. the OP says not to flash with Rogue Recovery, yet THERE IS NO OTHER RECOVERY OPTION AVAILABLE? lol..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1553591
why hasn't anyone said anything to anyone? I've been flashing ICS and GB with Rogue Recovery no problem.
Is this just to frustrate people for fuN
If there is another Recovery available only to the super leet, then fine, but stop saying you can't use the ONLY RECOVERY AVAILABLE. makes no sense. at all.

I find it completely hilarious that this phone and the developement is makes no sense.

Really, that's the sentence you want to use to speak out about something that, in your words, makes no sense?
Also, it would seem they explained how to flash it, not using rogue recovery.
2. Clockwork is the preferred method of flashing this ROM.

I guess I don't understand what you are struggling to understand.

Folks usually recommend using EL29 or EL26 with stock CWM. It's not a "secret" or anything.

I tried to edit it , but I had to wait for 5 minutes due to the over bearing neo-nazi - protection this forum has in place.
It's not the same quality forums from 2010 anymore, That's for sure.
Anyhow, I thank you! Thanks for contributing and answering my question. You're a big help.

Just thought I'd add, I believe in past builds you had the ability to flash using stock recovery but that had been disabled by Samsung, so maybe that's why they mention rogue by name?

Stock ClockWork Mod recovery is available. In fact Rogue Recovery is based off of ClockWork Mod...

The only recoverirs in question are ics rogue recoveries. When wiping it causes some bricks. All gingerbread should be great. Its only ics . But now that you bring it up I will wait for yours. You seem to be awesome at deving right? Cool can't wait!

EL26 and before had both Stock CWM and CWM-ACS chris41g.
I don't remember the earliest CWM-Rogue, but that is the only one being repacked with current kernels as chris41g hasn't checked back in a while.
When people refer to stock CWM, not Rogue, they are usually referring to the stock EL26 CWM repack that chris41g put together.
You can find a collection of stock CWM and Rogue CWM in the Auto Root package. I never packaged in ACS recovery.

And it's only the versions after 1.2.1 that were having issues. Even then must people aren't having issues but due to the isolated instances Steady decided to play it safe and past the warning.
Also, the majority of the issues involved using the Rogue Recovery with CyanogenMod Alpha builds in some form or another (and the alpha builds come with their own slew of warnings).

Hi.
It's been asked for a zillion times and is being worked on. Many expect it to be posted today, though we will have to wait and see.
Thanks.

thanks for being rude. ill look elsewhere for a more intelligent response.
Don't think anyone was trying to be rude. Everyone's a little on edge due to some folks having issues even on stock, thankfully I'm not one of them, and/or issues with the rooted kernels, then when someone comes in here and makes a thread that plain ole common sense or a few minutes of reading would satisfy it probably starts to feel like babysitting a gaggle of impatient 3 year olds...

Follow the rules and post in the correct spot and do some reading beforehand. Will help you find more information.
If you get the stock sprint/samsung kernel it will take away the yellow caution sign/exclamation mark at boot correct?
I downloaded and used SPH-D710_Zedomax_EpicTouchKernel-v1 and I am getting that yellow sign now. Just want to know if I unrooted if it would take that off.
thx!

Are you talking about the one with CWR built in when you say Bubby's kernel?
From here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1268037
?
I thought you had to flash up su in order to get root - or is there another one I'm missing somewhere

3.0.8-gaaa2611. that's my kernel version. I haven't install Kernel updates here. What do you mean by stock camera? <pardon for the noob question> My phone is already rooted/unlocked.
What were your instructions for rooting? (Assuming you weren't rooted before you posted this)
Your root method may have wiped everything

No, i'm using gallimaufry. I'm surprised too, I didn't expect such a high score
Check my sig to make sure you're installing the roms correctly.
Post two will detail it.
A "stock" camera is the camera that comes pre-installed. Not one from the play store.
I'm on AOKP, and can confirm no such issue.
I think my camera started malfunctioning <didn't save images/videos> when I wipe data due to I forgot my screen lock pattern <yes, I forgot! WTH>. Then, I flash AOKP b29 to see if it will solved my dilemma but it didn't. Last resort was, flash original stock ROM from Google website. Now, I am back to stock ROM.
@Jubakuba: I follow your procedure before, but when I tried to re-install Titanium Backup <free> to restore apps, it didn't succeed and prompts error which is something like code:32.

Something I just found out last night. I've been using MIJJZ Blend Goodness rom for a while now, but I still have zip file from other roms I've tried. I flashed the wicked sensation rom extended toggle zip and it works perfect. I have done a couple of different one. So if u like a add-on zip from another rom try to flash it to a different one and tell me what works.
Just wanted to point out that you should stick with like os versions if you are attempting this. Like flash a zip from an FF18 Rom to another FF18 Rom. Mixing versions is not a good idea. It might appear to work but you will likely run into problems down the road. You could get lucky and not have problems it's but best not to risk it. If you decide to do it anyway, make sure you have a good backup first.

I agree with crawj on this. Bad idea. Unless you're using a morph universal zip like ALL my mods on the black rom (except extended toggles). Then you can flash them to nearly any TW rom. Already thought of this problem lol. So did MIJJA74.
LOL Funny you mention this... I recently found I had many zips mixed together from Goodness and Blu Kuban on my sd card. The few I got wrong just did away with my notification bar or caused systemui to FC. I guess I was not so lucky. Like mentioned before, just make sure your backed up first.

True true, Cyber is right... Even if you're just flashing a battery mod it can have bad results between platforms or tw/ aosp etc.. Before flashing anything always do a nandroid back up.. Be safe not sorry.
FYI i have tried this while back on ff18 and i bricked ma phone thus some did work great yet when an update came along for the rom after reboot it also went into reboot lock so just an fyi might work great now but as the others mentioned down the road (in my experience) i got f'd

New user E4GT , need some help.

Hey guys, I just broke my galaxy nexus (fell in the pool) and a buddy gave me his old E4GT to use.
I did my research around this forum and found a ton of different things.
What I've done so far:
Wiped the phone and rooted using odin for FL24 which is the stock ICS build on the phone.
What I want to do:
Flash CWM recovery
Flash a Stable rom
I've been reading about a few unstable kernel issues around the forum and I'm a bit confused.
I would really appreciate the help with this Thanks
You should know that in order to flash a ROM, you need to flash a safe gb kernel, EL29 directboot or EL26 CWM,do you know about the emmc bug?
Since I dont see a specific question, check this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1953783

There are a ton of really stable builds in android development, and most have cwm built in. Jellyverse is a kick a** ROM, but doesn't have cwm, but it's easy enough to flash that after you load the ROM. Good luck.

ROM
Well if you're looking for a stable ICS ROM, I can definately recommend the Blue Kuban FL24/FI27 ROM. All you need to do is boot into a safe kernel (http://e4gtcm.blogspot.com/p/tools.html), then boot into it (MAKE SURE YOU ARE ROOTED AND HAVE FILES ON YOUR PHONE, FAILURE TO DO SO WILL PUT YOU IN BOOTLOOP), then wipe data/factory reset, and then flash the rom (if you want the Blu Kuban ROM, here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1625535). And you should be :good: to go.

*Note* After you flash the rom using the EL29 Directboot (which is needed to be flashed either through Desktop Odin or Mobile Odin), the ROM will automatically install a safe recovery after the ROM flash.
Thanks for the link to the newbie thread (missed it) also thanks for clarifying on the EL29! Right now I'm installing JellyVerse

D710BST i think Im ready to flash a ROM

So here's the deal. I rooted my D710BST (ICS 4.0.4, fl24) with framaroot. I had no custom recovery so i used mobile odin (i don't have a pc) to flash garwynn's custom kernel ( http://www.sxtpdevelopers.com/showthread.php?t=119 ) so i can run agat's cr. Well now i have random power downs and gps failure. I have not been able to play ingress in over a week and its driving me nuts!!!
I just wanted to run this by more knowledgeable individuals. In theroy (until confirmed), since the kernel is a safe kernel, i can jump straight outta ICS. I am wanting to load ProjectX ROM ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2320041 ). It requires a clean flash. [q] Since mobile odin can flash from internal SD and i lack computer, can i not move all my pics, vids, personal files (etc...) to my external SD, remove it, then flash clean?
noob alert: everything i have ever done in the root world is in this post
5min between posts?!?!? I just wanna edit this one!!! grr
What gives? Do i need to put "[q]" in the title?
I drive a cab and kinda rely on my gps. I can manage, with just my map; but i miss my navi!
Can you put a custom recovery?

More stock stuff? Sheeesh, why am i rooting? This beautiful sounding ROM was developed by your team! Why the discouragement? And, as i said before, i do not have a computer. How come no one will just answer the question? I am a strong person and can take criticism, if that is what i needed. Is your projectX ROM not safe/ideal?!?!? Sorry man, Im just baffled you would discourage use of your own products. Am i missing something? Confused
Sorry for sounding stubborn but, i really wanna try that ROM. Im just saying, if i wanted to stay stock, i would have never researched my way to xda. All the op details were so i can be thorough. The actual question was about the internal (clean) flash. I mean, should i not try your ROM?
If you read the first post in the thread you would see the instructions on how to install... and the first step is upgrading to the official upgrade because this creates the Preload partition, it is a necessary step. Not discouraging you from using Project X at all, I am about to release an update soon. I just want you to be aware of the proper procedure so things don't go wrong. The first post in the Project X thread has all the steps you need along with links to all the files you need.
Oh my god! I am sooo sorry i read that the wrong way! I feel like anass now! My apologies.
Yeah, i read about the partition change from ICS. So, using your link to upgrade and fix partitions would make for a smooth projectX installation? Does that mean i don't have to clean flash, since Im not coming from ICS?

Thank you for all your help. This, in particular, helped me out the most. Without knowing what to expect, I got a bit worried when there was no boot after el29 kernel flash. Limited computer access kinda snailed the process. Once i was up, i had to do the "clear data" on play store and its framework, in order to download anything. I lost your custom store but, I'm running! I am really enjoying all the green! I love the Pandora lock screen and the starry boot animation and the....... I'm sure I'll find tons more, in due time!
