2 Cheap 99p Cases for the S2 - A Quick Review - Budget Friendly - Galaxy S II Accessories

As an ex user of the Galaxy S, I thought I would review 2 budget cases for my new S2 i91000.
Both cases were bought for 99p delivered with screen protectors.
Now I must admit I’m not a fan of cheapy cases but I needed something to protect my phone whilst in use.
Lets start with the:
BLACK SILICONE S-Line GEL CASE
Made using a combination of matte and glossy TPU material. You may have seen these for sale everywhere from ebay to amazon to phone stalls.
Vary in price from 99p to 3.50.
First impressions – 7/10 brings something different to the market.
Fit – 8/10 –Not super tight and not lose. It’s a good fit.
Looks – 8/10 – Ok it’s not going to set the world alight but someone has put some brains into designing this case. It has textured sides which aid grip; it’s not something that’s going to fall out of your hand. The back is 80% matte, 20% gloss in a “S” style design. Unique and sets it apart from other “plain” cases.
Grip – 8/10 – As above the textured griping on the sides really sets this case apart if you have butter fingers or are clumsy.
In use: 8/10 – I didn’t encounter any problems when using the phone for calls or texts.
Improvements – I think I’d give this case a solid 9/10 IF the back the case was also textured. It would further aid grip without sacrificing too much thickness.
Overall – 8/10
For those of you on a budget I think this case is ideal. For 99p it’s hardly breaking the bank and looks pretty nice too. Although it won’t protect much in the event of a drop the grip does reassure you in some way.
BLUE HYBRID SILICONE CASE COVER
A 2 piece case for those looking for extra durability and protection for their S2’s. Silicone & Plastic shell.
First impressions – 8/10 – A rival to a ToughCase.... errr Maybe not!
Fit – 5/10 – Loose, not particularity a good fit with button recess.
Looks – 8/10 – Looks good to me. Comes in different silicone colours but I think blue is the best. Pity the fit is horrible. Thick but not a brick!
Grip – 3/10 – Everytime i hold the phone with this case I fear it slipping out my hand. The plastic shell is too smooth for my liking. It’s a shame they didn’t put a texture backing on because they are clearly marketing this as giving the best protection for a case.
In use: 6/10 – I didn’t encounter any problems when using the phone for calls. Texting can be a little awkward at times due to the silicone getting in the way. Dust and fluff tend to stick to the silicone (as expected).
Improvements – As said if the plastic shell was textured and the case was more of a tighter fit then this would be a winner!
Overall – 6/10
Looks wise it’s great. Protection-wise, I think the case is too much of a loose fit to absorb impacts. It will still protect your phone in some capacity but don’t expect too much of it.

hi there, can you please tell me if you can buy gs2 cases that fit extended batteries. I've got a 3500mah Batt and i know it's a long shot - cases for extended Batts and all that!
i suspect there's none made for extended batteries. lol

I have a similar one and would recommend them !!

I have the Blue one but in green and for the price of about £3.99 is amazing the one thing you mention is same with me Grip – 3/10 not sure i'd place it that low though since still use on bike and never dropped..
Button recesses are fine if put on correctly yes it can be an a## but worth it and it fit's tight!
Looks far better in green btw

i have the clear version of the sline one and it fits perfectly with the samsung 2000mah offical extended battery

Thanks for your input

I have the black silicone case and can highly recommend it, I keep buying additional ones like the 0.3mm one from eBay which actually damaged my phone a little, and a bumper (which is yet to arrive) but I keep going back to this one!

[Q] Case mate pop or sgp hybrid?

Hi,
I am about to buy one of the above cases and I would like the opinions of those who have them. The plus and the minus of each of these cases.
Thank you in advance
Good post! I am picking between the two as well.. I am leaning towards the Case-Mate Pop out case because of the stand and how useful it is since I video chat with google talk often and being able to set it on the table and watch a movie or chat sounds great.

I just bought a case mate pop. Looks good and will def provide protection but too bulky in my opinion. And i didn't get a free screen protector!!!
I'm using SGP hybrid for several weeks now, very happy with it.
One thing u should know about it is that curved headphones is problematic with it and some micro usb connectors might not fit the case (but will do fine after some shaving ).
Can't comment about the case mate.
I was actually picking between the Case-Mate TOUGH series and the POP...
I went with the POP after deciding between the two, and it was because I liked the idea that you could set it down as a stand - for me it'll save having a cradle and at night like Im used to my blackberry having a large clock and I kind of wanted that feel.
But when it gets here I can vouch for its quality. Right now, im playing the waiting game...

Would you mind quoting the measurements of the case ? I can't find them anywhere

I also bought the case mate pop but also find it a little bulky. I passed my phone to a work mate the next day and he dropped it from a few feet and it didn't damage the phone whatsoever. So I do like it and I like the kickstand. But I am thinking of getting the Barely there case for when I want to travel lighter with less bulk. I always tend to get a handful of cases until I find something perfect
I was looking at both of these cases myself last month. I ended up buying both to try them out.
The Neo Hybrid is nice, looks good and is very form fitting. Bought in Red.
I settled on the Case Mate Pop case, in White. It has a bit more bulk. My biggest fear is to drop the phone and for it to land face down and break the display. The Pop case has more material around the edges of the phone so if it does fall face down there will be a larger gap between the display and the pavement(a mm or less, probably). The Pop case is a little harder to remove as well but I think it protects more. My .02¢.

Surely sounds like 2x10^22 Yokto Cents to me.
Just had the Case-mate Pop! delivered today (white and grey). It's very well made and looks and feels excellent (even the girlfriend said so), and although it adds a fair bit of bulk, it does seem to protect the phone quite well. All sockets/holes etc seem to have plenty of clearance so access to them and sound coming out shouldn't be an issue. Very nice case, especially since Amazon UK were doing it for ~£17 instead of the usual £25.
Case mate pop + 2000 mah battery and cover
Does anyone have both the case mate pop and samsung 2000 mah battery? I would like to know if they fit. Thank you!
i personally don't like neo hybrid. the silicone is thin and the plastic is flimsy and can be easily deformed

I'd like to see the case off the phone sitting beside to see how much thicker than the phone it is.
Can someone help with that?

Thinnest case for extended battery Nexus ?

Just bought the extended battery at Verizon for half off, also walked out with the Incipio double case. This case feels tough and sure can take s beating, great for outdoor work and kids dropping my phone. But this case is a little too thick for my liking.
But on weekends or going out would like a second thinner case. What thin cases fit the extended battery ? Anything like the Feather or Rearth slim fit ?

I just use ghost armor full body, and then I use a belt clip pouch that I drop my phone into. It is the slimmest option, I protect the whole phone from scratches, and I can keep it on my side. I'm not really worried about dropping it, because even with a case if you drop it in the right spot, you will end up with a broken phone. That's what insurance is for. At least that's my opinion. I hope this helps.
I just picked up the Diztronic case below and it fits great and doesn't add much thickness to the phone- nice and thin. I don't have my extended battery yet but per the reviews this case fits, just a little more tightly which is fine with me.

+1 on the Diztronic 3rd revision case. I am running it and I love it. I have 3 other cases and this is now my daily driver. You can even leave the extended battery cover on too. I use the Incopio when I need extra protection.
Also a big +1 on the Diztronic rev 3 case. Full access to all controls, full protection yet thin. Just about perfect as far as cases go and I have tried a few.
Diztronic has very upstanding customer service to boot!

I've been bugging Rearth about making their RingKe case to fit the Verizon w/ extended battery. This case has been getting a lot of accolades here...
With the Verizon extended battery going for $24.99, it should just come standard with the phone. At such a cheap price, and only adds like a business card extra thickness it is so worth it. Plus you may get up to 2 extra hours on it over stock.
Point being, with extended battery so popular, I would hope case companies realize this, and pump out cases that are officially designed for it.

My local Verizon store didn't have any in stock but they ordered it for me w/ free 2-day shipping. Still $24.99
I went into the biggest Verizon store in my area, called first asked if they had the Nexus extended battery, they said YES, and tons of accessories too. Go in there and they said the battery is 50% off, they had like 4 on the shelf. Just call the largest Verizon store in your area, I am sure they stock them.
I am using the phone today with no case, crosses fingers The Incipio 2pc case was just way too bulky for me, felt like a my old EVO 4G which was a giant. Back to caselsss and this phone looks awesome, the gray color makes this phone looks stealth, like something a pilot from F-22 Raptor plane would have in the cockpit I just want a razor thin case to go around this now.
Oddly enough I tried the High gloss silicone Verizon case and its is really nice. feels thin in the hand
I use the SGP capsule case. Its clearly designed for the GSM version because my Verizon + extended battery keeps the lips from grabbing the edges all the way.
But the phone is on there and not going anywhere. You'd have to really look at it to see what I'm talking about.
I'm still waiting for something specifically designed for the Verizon with extended battery.

Hopefully we get some news soon from the big case companies
Does anyone know if the Diztronic case works with the GSM Galaxy Nexus with an extended battery?
The best case I've tried period that also works with the extended battery is the Case-Mate Pop case. It was recalled initially due to a lack of clearance around the micro usb port. In about another two weeks they'll have the second revision out and it will be my daily driver.
I've tried the Case-Mate Tough Case, the Boxwave Active, the Boxwave Slim Rubberized Shell Case, and the Seidio Surface. The Pop case sucked less than the rest and fits the extended battery with good protection and minimal bulk.
can't comment if it's the thinnest, but it fits and looks good.

White black duo-shield soft skin hard case

This is for the Verizon Galaxy Nexus, not the GSM Variant.
I ordered this case from the suggestion of another person on twitter and it came in the mail today. I was especially intrigued by it because he said it fit the extended battery rather well!
It turns out that it does and seems to be one of the first I have found (besides the Otterbox Series) that fits the phone with the extended battery included.
It is made of high quality materials, and isnt a lint collector in my pocket which is a big one for me. Below are a link to the pictures of the phone w/ the extended battery and the case itself.

I have this case in white/purple and loved it, but was concerned about the back getting "scratched" since the plastic part doesn't have any felt or cushioning. What are your thoughts on this? Is there any reason to be concerned in your opinion?

The plastic seems to be fairly strong, for example, it seems the coating is of high quality which makes it not easily scratch able.
For the most part I am not worried about the case being scratched and I really like it.

Thank you for your review and your opinion! That makes me feel a bit better about using that case as it is my favorite so far. I am still looking at the Kraken (when they make one), Rearth Rinke and SGP. I also have one of those cases that look like the ballistic ones. I like it though it does make it a bit bulkier.
Just ordered the White/Green one to go with my Beats . I'm a sucker for anything Lime Green, I have been going naked on the phone, hopefully I'll like this case. Biggest thing I was worried about what being a lint magnet, good thing it isnt

anything similar for the gsm?
I also ordered this case Black/Red. I have a GSM version. The difference between the LTE/GSM is .53mm so Im thinking it'll be fine. I read a negative review about this case that discouraged me but after reading this thread im feeling a lil better. Pics look great on the SGN. Also Carbon Fiber Ghost Armor will be between my boo boo (lol) and the case so I'm not worried about the plastic scratching my phone. It also comes with a Naked Shield screen protector wich I've read is a wet application. Any thoughts on the included screen protector? Is it any good? Doubt id peel my Ghost Armor screen protector off for any other but im still interested if it's good.

It adds near 0 weight to the phone, at least it seems as if it does not which is the important part
I just got this, LOVE IT! although it does add some bulk it barely added much weight and it fits well with the extended battery with one exception, I had to remove my skin that was installed on the phone... I was a little shocked it wouldn't fit with that skin but I guess I don't need it...

What case do you use?

What is a good minimal case for the Atrix?
I care more about feel than protection.
If you use or are going to be using any of the docks, don't bother with an actual case. Too much of a pain to deal with every time you dock and undock (I used to think otherwise!).
I took mine off because it now just goes between my desk or pocket and the vehicle dock.
That said, if you are not using a dock, this case from Seido is rock-solid and looks great, Comes in several colors, this one just happens to match my roadster.
(while I really wouldn't characterize this case as "minimal," compared to an Otter Box, it is!)
I've been using a Seidio Surface for about a week:
http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss?url=search-alias=mobile&field-keywords=seidio+surface+atrix
Very impressed with the quality of this case which feels good and is very slimline and lightweight yet still sturdy.
You'll find video reviews of the case on Youtube which may be helpful.
The added advantage for you living in the US is you will only have to pay about half the amount I did to get one posted over here to the UK!
I was using an otterbox.. But i find it makes it hard to swipe at the edges of the phone so I'm back to being bare
I had a Speck candy shell case for awhile, but I found it made the screen smudge when I would try to clean it so I took it off.

I use Body Glove that I got at the at&t store. I've loved it from the start. I don't know how good it is for protection, but I like that iit doesn't feel like it'll slip out of your hand and it's easy to take off (miui ROM makes me have to battery pull sometimes.)

Incipio feather, but they keep cracking. Even though the company is great and has already sent me replacements twice.
I have ordered these now
Doesn't really qualify as a "case" as such, but a full body kit from Zagg definitely qualifies as minimal. I take pretty good care of my phones and hate the extra bulk in my pocket so it works for me. Having said that, these don't help much in a fall...
I've used several cases but ended up with just the zagg front. The battery cover completely covers the corners so I didn't feel the extra bulk of a case was really worth the extra protection. Plus they're cheap to replace and cases are a pain when using docks.

You are amazingly lucky you haven't shattered the screen! You know what they say though, 3rd time's the charm! lol
I, too, have gone caseless. I've got a screen protector on it, but I figure that all the corners and back panel are just a piece of cheap plastic. When it comes time to resell my phone I'll just buy a shiny new backplate for the same price as a nice case. It's worked for almost a year now.
It depends on your taste, but the Otterbox case I bought is actually pretty good protection and slim factor. Only thing is that you lose the ability to use the docks.
I've gone case-less also. Due to the slippery feel, I definitely wanted a case but there wasn't a good, grippy option that could still be used with the cardock. Surprisingly enough, I've trained myself to grip the phone carefully and its only been dropped once but with no damage (from 6 feet high). Moto builds tanks.

Yes! This!!! I have the exact same case its amazing! Like nothing can destroy this phone with this case!
I used a SGP Neo Hybrid since more than one year but a few month ago the polycarbonat frame is broken so I buy this one:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Book-Wallet...-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-III-GT-i9300-/271210987593
And I'm total happy with this Case since 2 month!
After trying about 10 cases of varying materials , shapes and sizes I chose the fake Neo Hybrid case since the origional doesn't seem to be available anymore. Build quality is quite good for under 10 bucks and if it breaks itll be cheap to buy another.
UAG is the best!! Very good quality and build. Using it with a 0,4 mm glass screen protector. Beats the plastic ones by a 1000 miles.
+1 on the bodyglove shocksuit!! The shizz.
Spigen neo hybrid now, had an Otterbox commuter for the last year. Like them both but I prefer the Spigen
Got to agree body glove is the best. Good price and doesn't make the phone to big and bulky.

Oh my god yes. the UAG case is really nice. The one thing I do dislike is that the lettering on the back came off within the first week of having it. Still recommend for durability. Btw those who want the case, Slate is a lot closer to the natural GS3 blue than you think!

most of the fake UAG case sell cheap and have letters failling off or just painted on it not mentioning the quality is not the same at all.
im not saying you brought fake one but just sharing some experiences.
also my fav case is indeed a UAG one (Scout/black) i got it from Ebay for 24$ port inclusive from a Belgian seller, i did some investigation because even if its only 10 bucks less than the official store its still suspicious, i did sent some detailed pics of the case and box info/bar code and according to the customer service : it's a original one, nonetheless i spared 10$ on it but i didnt got custom taxes.

also my fav case is indeed a UAG one (Scout/black) i got it from Ebay for 24$ port inclusive from a Belgian seller, i did some investigation because even if its only 10 bucks less than the official store its still suspicious, i did sent some detailed pics of the case and box info/bar code and according to the customer service : it's a original one, nonetheless i spared 10$ on it but i didnt got custom taxes.

Wow, I didn't know they sold many knockoffs. Mine was direct from Amazon through UAG. I think I just have oily skin which made it easier to reduce the sticky solution for the lettering. Thanks for letting me know of that! I might get another just to have more color selection
Lifeproof Fre.
Otterbox Armour is a close second, but the lifeproof is more practical for everyday use, as it's more pocketable and wireless charging works through it.

exactly what make a UAG better than a Otterbox, Otter are nice but too bulky.
funny experience: i had 2 S3 dropped from my balcony (around 3meter)1 from a friend with a Otterbox defender and mine with the UAG without screen protector both hit the concrete on the lower edge (where the soft bumper is) result : mine nothing the other had a little (very small) crack on the bottom of the screen xD
sorry for the blurry quality xD

That life proof looks really solid but still just a bit too bulky for me. I might get something a bit thicker than my UAG, but first I need a proper full screen protector. I've gone through like 5 because they are dammed hard to apply.
