Gonna have to go with jainanshal here. In both stock GB and CM9, photos get saved to DCIM\Camera on the SD card automatically for me.

Do you think I just see it like that in my gallery because its in a different folder? So theoretically if your right when I take out my SD all my photos will be gone?

I ask cuz i had trouble with 3d gallery trying to find pics that were in subfolders. I think i was using myns rom.
Im not exactly sure how to make the gallery find them especialy if their not already there, but unmounting then mounting the sdcard or using switch pros feature to reload media would be my only suggestion.
I fixed my problem, i put all my important files on the computer including my pics. Then i formatted my sdcard then i put all of my pics in the DCIM folder under the camera file and walla i fixed the problem.

The album should find them automatically. I took out my SIM card and put it into a friends Evo and my music and photos were automatically compiled. Is your SD card still mounted? Because if so, your SD card won't work till you unmount it from your PC.

In the camera settings, storage, change to sd
Sent from my LT28h using xda app-developers app
Ok found that setting.
Will that move all my previuos picture in internal to SD card automatically?
Or only those picture taken after I made the changes will store in sd card only?

True, they are saved as DSC_xxx but you can see the date and time in the settings when you open a picture in the album. Dunno how to change it though

i dont think those are featured in the camera app
Yea, i can see the details by going to the detail of the file, but other smartphone can actually print the date and time ONTO the picture, so when i print it out, they are visible in the paper.
This feature is missing from this phone, why would sony miss that.

Photo Saving Issues

Hi all, Ive searched through the forums and cant find the answer that im after so I thought I would ask it the question myself
The Problem
When using any of my cameras, once a picture is taken and I go to view it in the gallery I either get:-
1. The picture is saved properly and I can view it fine:victory:
2. The thumbnail for the image shows up fine but when I go to view the picture by touching the thumbnail, the image loads and then in front of my eyes, it corrupts by either turning completely grey or turning into blocks of different colours and then going grey.
3. When I open the gallery, the image is already corrupted and just shows a grey square with a lighting bolt through it.
When this all started, I was saving the pics to my 64gb sd card (exfat) using the ext2internal memory mod which caused my sd card to be viewed as internal memory while using Foxhound ROM. I then tried A different ROM so I went on to Chaos ROM (which I may add, is awesome) but to no avail. I then removed the ext2internal mod so it was seen as my external sd card again but this didn't fix anything either. Next, I decided to remove the sd card completely and save the photos on the internal sd card but that caused me another problem. I now take a photo but when I go to view it in the gallery, its not therre at all, its like I havent evn taken the picture. Ive used ES file explorer to search for the photos but I cant find them anywhere. Ive tried all the usual fixes but nothing seems to work, I am completely stumped.
Im getting really annoyed with this now as its been happening for a little while and ive lost some really awesome photos to this issue. I hope someone can help with this as I really dont know what to do next with it, I have almost given up taking pictures with it. I wouldnt even mind having to save to the phones internal sd card but i cant find where the pics are going once I have taken the photo.:crying:
PLEASE HELP
Can you view the photos if you connect to the PC ? Did you make sure to remove the file you used for the Mod ? Did you Format your SD Card properly before starting to use it ? Are you sure you checked all the Folders where the pictures might be ? DCIM, Pictures, and Media. Did you check in both Internal, and External Storage ?

Answers I'm the order that the questions were asked.
No
Yes
Yes
Yes
And finally Yes.
I formatted the sd card again and have put it back in the phone and I still can't find or save photos. I then re installed the ext2internal mod again and can now save and view pictures but I'm now back into the position I started in.
Any Ideas?

Your signature in the last post suggest i9300 S3? While many suggestions here may help, it is better if you asked in the Q&A forum for your device? Or in the Rom thread maybe someone else has experienced this and has a solution. This forum is the Sprint SPH-L710, while an S3 many things are different.

Hmmm. that Sig was not in his first post. I would tend to agree with ed. If you are not on a Sprint Device, you would be better off asking in the correct forum.

KitKat causing SD card problems - woah intentional?

This has got to be the worst move ever made by Google (and I'm a Google fanboy). Makes me frustrated. Samsung is one of the only companies providing micro sd card slots, and now this comes and screws that up. What can you even do with a micro sd card now besides read it...?!
Here is the article: http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/65841
Leibeck explains what this means to users, writing,
“If your device has user-accessible internal flash storage, your SD Card is a “secondary external storage device”.
What this means is that with KitKat, applications will no longer be able create, modify, or remove files and folders on your external SD card. As a for-instance, you can no longer use a file manager to copy files from your computer to the SD card over a network. This ability, which has existed since the beginning of Android, has been taken away.”

This is horrible.....shame on google
I'll be waiting. No need to rush in and be an early adopter. I wonder how the S5 is handling this/going to.
Google mess it up on purpose, to force people to use their cloud services and be bombarded by their advertising, that's how they make money and their official explanation to improve security is so lame. Anyhow, hopefully Samsung will fix it sooner or later, or you can root it and fix it yourself, loosing warranty in the process. I took the high road and will not update, until a) it's all fixed or b) my warranty runs out and won't care about Knox at all.
Google gets on my nerves lately, first they messed up new maps update (at least I got option to stay on old version for now) and now this.

So should I not up date the software.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda premium
Google changed it because a lot of folks were having their app data store on the sdcard, which later on caused stability issues with the apps loading. Some resulted in FCs, crashes etc etc. So in order to increase stability, and possibly even security in Android, Google made the move to allow on app data to be stored internally. You can store and do whatever else you want to do on the sdcard like storing music, photos, other files etc etc. App data can no longer be stored on external...
Personally I don't mind, the Note 3 comes with 32GB minimum... That's plenty for me....

I still can go to settings and change to save the pictures to the SD card. It's the app data, not pictures that you can't move to an SD card.
These SD card problems are a super-dealbreaker for me, does anyone know a way (via root or whatever) to revert kitkat to previous SD card behaviors? If not, I'm going to have to revert back to Jelly Bean.

If you're rooted there is a fix. it's in the kitkat qa thread in the dev section. Seems to work fine.

Why not force apps to be defaulted to internal unless user unchecks that option for people using developers menu and/or root. Sort of like force gpu rendering option.

Possible photo recovery? Deleted via ES File Explorer

This is more of a general Android question rather than a Galaxy S4 question but hopefully somebody has knowledge about it on this board. Basically I had some old, nostalgic pictures that were saved to my external SD card first, and then moved to my internal memory into a special folder via ES File Explorer and I ended up deleting them because I thought I wouldn't need them anymore. I deleted them from my internal memory via ES File Explorer. Mind you, I HAVE done several wipes of internal storage from installing ROM's and whatnot so I honestly think it's beyond unrecoverable.
Do you think there are copies of the pictures saved on my external SD card that a super highpowered recovery program would find since the pictures were put on there first and then moved? Or am I really **** out of luck? I don't know how data recovery works from media storage but I thought maybe these could be recovered.
I have tried using DiskDigger made specifically for Android and scanning internal memory and it did turn up some old pictures but not the ones I was hoping for. Wondering if there's some other method maybe?
I have to look in my tech dvds for a applications that I use.

If it's too time consuming you don't have to.
If they're gone, it's fine. I still have them visualized in my mind . Just sucks I deleted them without thinking twice.
Try recuva: http://www.piriform.com/recuva
If nothing else has been written over the files, they will still be recoverable, as deleting a file only marks the space as usable. If anything has written over that space, however, you are unfortunately SoL. There are higher end recovery software suites that will help recovery partial files and whatnot, but recuva is super easy to use and is free, so I would start there.

Are you sure you scanned the right location? Depending on the camera app and its settings they can be stored on both the internal and external sd card. I'ved used DiskDigger numerous times and it found very old images.
By chance, would this be a 64gb microsd?

No it's a 32GB. I scanned data for internal and scanned my external card yes. Strange thing is it would display the pictures I already have saved and would make the list really long so going through it was a pain. I'll try it again tonight but I doubt it will work.

I asked about the card size because I got burnt with a fake 64gb card. Once it was about 6gb full images would start to corrupt or vanish and I couldnt recover them.
