Lumia 900 and T Mobile - Nokia Lumia 900

Since their are several reviews out and the phone itself is coming out in a few days, I was wondering if we will know soon if the Lumia 900 will run on T Mobile.
Specifically I am interested in the new $30/100min plan with unlimited text/web. What is the hardware requirement the phone has to have to be able to run on T Mobile's 4G network? And if the 900 never were to come out officially for T Mobile, would and unlocked or international version of the phone work?
I understand that a lot of this is still assumptions but thanks for any input.

If you unlock it, voice & edge features would work. But, 3G/4G would not.

what are you basing this on? Has someone verified this?
At present it seems pretty ambiguous. On the one hand Nokia doesn't mention it in their specs, on the other hand the FCC filing lists 1700 as a UMTS band (as well as an LTE band). Also, other AT&T phones (skyrocket) using the same Qualcomm 9200 work on T-Mobile.
I don't think anyone could give a definite answer until its been tested.

I think we will find out in a week or so. The FCC filing links back to the Finnish documents that appear to have testing for those bands. It's unclear to me if there are multiple variants tested in the documents.

FWIW, today i was calling TMO Account rep to get a new SIM card..While on the phone she was asking if they can offer me a deal for contract extension. I politely declined and asked them if they are getting the Lumia 900 anytime. She said something interesting - they were recently trained (self training) on it, but was not sure when such a device is coming. She herself said - why would they ask to train when the phone is not in the vicinity.
I also did ask her if she was referring to the Lumia 710 and she said no as it has been out for couple of months.
Let hope the Lumia 900 hits TMO soon.

Here's to hoping.
My HD2 is getting tired and I am not interested in the 710 or Radar.

I heard a few months ago, T-Mobile was getting the 900 June-ish. 2 reasons I think what I read is valid.
1. The CEO or who ever it was, said they can make it without the iPhone. Android is too fragmented to lure that many new people.
2. This same guy, the President?? said they need to take another look at Windows Phone. The Lumia 710 is hte #2 seller at T-Mobile. I've actually walked in a Tmo store and saw lines looking at it. T-Mobile is known for cheap rates, and cheap phones. They cannot succeed like that too much longer. With out the iPhone franchise, and without a heavy Android franchise phone, Windows Phone is all that is left.
If they try to pass off the 710 or the radar as top line franchise phones, they will fail so fast. These are good phones, but not top end.
And, its logical. T-Mobile HQ is only a couple of miles away from Redmond HQ. There are alot of T-Mobile people working at Redmond HQ. They have a good relationship. It makes sense.
And final thing I heard, , T-Mobile offered to host the 900. But Nokia wanted Verizon. They settled for AT&T. So picture this....imagine, a TV commercial with Carly (the TMobile girl) carrying the 900....things dreams are made of..

LOL.
All the talk of T-mo raising rates recently I'm wondering if there will be any savings staying on.

If anyone does receive a unit early or is able to buy at the store today/tomorrow, could you please take a picture of the side of the box that shows the frequnecy bands? Thanking you all very kindly in advance !

i've got a buddy that works at ATT, i'll see if he can send me a pic of the side of one of the boxes tomorrow.

Pretty sure I've seen and heard numerous times from different Nokia reps that the Lumia 900 is an AT&T exclusive. Of course, they didn't say how long of an exclusive it would be, or if they'd introduce some new phone with a different model number that's just the same thing for other carriers...
When will we see the Lumia 900 show up for other US carriers?
In the US, the Lumia 900 will be sold exclusively with AT&T.

From a very recent Neowin interview.
Chances are though, since it's on AT&T, it'll be a phone that is not compatible with T-Mobile 3G/4G network.

If he can get the pic make sure it's the side of the box with the barcode that shows the IMEI and serial. That's the sticker that should list the bands.

It is an AT&T exclusive for 45 days.....that's up at the end of April/early May.

Right about the time the european 900 will be released

Anandtech's review speculates an unlocked version might work. That said? Why not wait for the superior chip in the international version. Worth it, IMHO, not to mention the rotten EL DIABLO label plastered on the front of it. The Nokia logo is enough for me.

I don't know about anyone else but I was planning on getting the Rogers version and not the AT&T one (specifically to avoid the ugly AT&T branding).

Anyone with a picture of the side of the box showing the frequency bands?
I was thinking of picking up the Cyan. The AT&T logo doesn't bother me so much. Someone mentioned that tethering might be locked down though. May have to wait for Rogers and the black model. In any case having a picture of the box where the lable is showing model# and IMEI number would be a big help. That's where it should show the frequency bands.

The 1700/2100 is not listed in the HSPA specs. :-(
They are only listed under the LTE. I have an un easy feeling that it's not going to work (fully functional with cell/data) on T-Mobile or Mobilicity.
Looks like I'll have to hold out to see what the Rogers specs will be. The Lumia 710 I bought from them was GSM 850/900/1800/1900 and HSPA 850/1700/1900/2100. Hoping they do the same for the Lumia 900. We'll know in about 10 days when they launch.

RMA UK device, came back with US Motherboard, AT&T locked Internet.

I RMA-ed my HTC Titan X310e from UK because of the GPS Problem in tracking me down .
HTC sent it back with a US Motherboard of the Titan P series, which is from AT&T.
I have a goPhone service before and the UK Titan acquired great 3G for me, but now , i have the 4G icon popup, but i can;t access internet. I can call, text a message and receive them without any trouble.
I thought that even GoPhone services doesn't provide 4G Speed, at least they will still let me connect to the 3G network? Because i can't surf web at all.

I tried. No luck.
But guess what, i swap the IPhone 4S Simcard from my Brother. I was able to get online on that sim.
So look like AT&T locked my simcard? Can they do that? because my simcard is a goldphone one.
A gophone sim will work in any att phone and an att sim will work in any gophone or that's how it is supposed be. If it's not working for you even after using the network tool I would stop in an att store (a corporate owned one) and talk to someone about it. BTW that 4G is still really 3G it's just how att shows HSPA+.

I had the H icon for HSPA+ ( I believe) when my phone is still an UK devices.
Now my titan is more like a mix from US Motherboard of AT&T Version and other part from UK version...
But what do you mean by a Corporate Ownder ATT Store?

The moment you walk into a corporate owned AT&T store and ask them to fix your phone because you wanted unlimited Internet again on your smartphone, they'll more than likely say its not possible.
The data plans on GoPhone pre-paid accounts were never meant for smartphones, as prepaid smartphones have their own capped data packages you can purchase.
So if you really find someone very nice or helpful (and that is a big if), then great. But more than likely, they will turn you away and tell you that you can only use regular data packages on your smartphone device with a prepaid account.

I think you need to get onto HTC and ream them for sending you back a different phone that what you purchased. You purchased a UK phone, did you not? They sent it back to you with AT&T parts. This is not ok, as far as I'm concerned... if the substitution was not approved by you. It's up to HTC to make your smartphone 'right' again.

But on the back, the model is from AT&T.
As far as i know, they said they replaced the MB and that is all they did, so, the screeen, camera... and something else that i don't know is still from UK.
As far as you guys tell me, i will have to find another temp replacement since this could happen regularly and i need my phone for my stuffs.
PS: I plugged the old GoPhone simcard in to a GSM Phone and i still have EDGE Signal and can surf web on it...

Probably because if its got an AT&T/US IMEI, then AT&T is well aware that you are using a smartphone and they can actively block you from taking advantage of smartphone internet without the appropriate data package.
See before, you had an unknown IMEI from out of the country, so AT&T can't make heads or tails of it, and therefore they don't do anything about it when you use it on a plan you aren't supposed to be using it for. But now that they know you are using a smartphone, they say no data plan for you.

When you imported your Titan from the UK, AT&T had no way of knowing it was a smartphone. Therefore, you get to bypass any of their 'requirements'.
For example. I have a $20/mth unlimited GPRS Media Max plan. I get unlimited GPRS (from my feature phone) and 200 sms. Tethering is 'not allowed'. Now, I only use imported phones. I'm able to tether at HSPA speeds and my Lumia 800 from the UK is unrecognizable. Last year, I once put my SIM into an AT&T HTC HD7S and they immediately (and w/o my permission) forced me off my plan. A nasty little call to them and a ticket that took 5 days to resolve got me back on my old data plan.
Long story short. If the imei of your device is not recognized by AT&T as a smartphone, then you're victim to all of their limitations.

If i have to go with contract based... either the way is hurt, because their cheapest plan for an individual is like $69 for calling and data (they just require data for the contract, but we also need calling...)...
So basically, i don't really see the difference between branded and unbranded device if i use the contract-based sim (at least for me - who text and use data alot ) because there isn't much options,
Here is the Update:
I tried the iPhone Microsim in the slot for Titan, little weird, but it works.
The reason that i RMA-ed the phone was about my GPS when it fu(ked up. At least i know it is fixed (somehow) when it was able to acquire the position of mine, little bit slow, but i think that because i am staying inside the house and my location doesn't have great Signal for AT&T tho... ( i usually have 1-3 bar of AT&T inside.) But whatever, it was able to track down where i am and hold it for over 3-4 mins.
I also tried surfing web without Wifi:
So... I think i am going to AT&T store tomorrow. Sign up for a god damn contract...

[Q] Expansys USA HTC One X Help

I need some help from the real experts. I think that I may have screwed myself here on my One X Purchase. I got it from expansys-usa.com. Hopefully this is just my ignorance but from what I have been told by HTC customer service is that I received a Malaysian version of the One X. And that It will not be compatible at all with any US carrier for Data.
Here is where my current situation.
Ordered the phone wednesday 4/18 from Expansys-Usa.com
Received today, 4/20
Took it in to my local T-Mobile and had my sim from my Nexus One Cut down.
I receive phone calls and texts just fine but no data connection at all will work.
I was at T-Mobile for 2 hours as they tried to manually enter all APN settings, as well as talk to HTC support, no luck. In the end I was told I had a Malaysian model and that was the issue. When you enter the APN settings and save them, all it says is no Sim card found, please enter one. But the messaging and calling is connected in the back ground..
I have not been deep into phone tech for the last year or two so I am rusty on everything. What do you guys think, is there anything I can try to do here or is my only option to return the phone if possible?
Why would Expansys send out a Malaysian model? When first booting my phone the only language options are Asian-English but with like 12 different version of all different Asian countries. I get no option for anything in Europe.
Thank you..

Sounds like a t-mobile issue.
I have the same model as you I believe (asian region model, got "English" at initial startup but with a lot of different asian countries). All I did was go to "APN" setting in mobile networks, click on "AT&T" and everything works fine for me.
So yes, the asian one works on USA networks, but yours sounds like a t-mobile issue. This is of course if you have the same model as me, which is sounds like you do.
You know even if you had a European model it would only get 2G on T-Mobile?

That might be OP's problem. T-mobile 2g is so slow it would almost seem like there is no data connection.
HTC One X does not support t-mobile 3g.
Thanks for the replies. Although, I do know that I only will receive 2G. I had planned on this. But the problem is I get no data at all.
It is good to hear that there is someone else with this version and its working on ATT at least.
If your account is not provisioned correctly for the APN settings you are trying to use the phone will refuse to connect at all. Have Tmo check the plan they have you on. I had a similar problem with AT&T.

Well a good update.
Like in the thread I linked, it was an issue with the T-Mobile sim cards. Only the old style works with this phone. At least for now, hopefully a software update will fix this. I went to another T Mobile store the guy there was really helpful and we tried a handful of simcards. Ended up with the conclusion that the 3G sim cards worked, old style. He had to grab one out of an old Sensation package he said. But the newer 3GG ones dont. I dont know of the real diff but I wanted to share how the outcome was. I am now happily on edge. Hopefully 3G soon!

That might be OP's problem. T-mobile 2g is so slow it would almost seem like there is no data connection.
HTC One X does not support t-mobile 3g.

Wrong, Edge works on 3g and it is as fast as it can be..If you watch some videos of the One x on tmo you will notice how fast Edge is..
I bought from expansys USA as well. No problems at all and received the Taiwan build. I know a few people were having problems with T-Mobile and data. The issue was solved by getting the older micro sim card that said 3g, not their new one that says 3gg.

EDGE/GRPS and "fast" shouldn't be used in the same sentence. EDGE is 2G, not 3G, and speeds are highly influenced by load on the network. 1MB down would be a stupendous result but in some markets is can be as low as 300KB. If it works for you; cool. But people shouldn't think that EDGE speeds are going to be a satisfactory alternative to HSPA/HSPA+. And speeds will vary widely across T-Mobile’s network.

I initially tried using my One X on Tmo here in the states as well. I got a prepaid micro sim from the tmo store and had no issues besides only getting dreadful Edge only. Switched to AT&T and had no problems getting hspa+ with no issues. I have a China made one X I bought from Singapore. If you're bent on using tmo, try a micro sim.

[Q] AT&T users with F400S and LTE Data

Hi all, long time reader/lurker, but finally took the plunge on one of the Korean G3 phones and ran into this...
Quick question for the people who have the F400S on AT&T: Do you guys get LTE Data on your G3's? Mine just came today, and I get great service (surprised I got LTE, was originally just planning on 3G usage) but whenever I access any site that isn't att.com/esupport or att.com/biztech, I get the redirect in the image.
Message says: "We're sorry, but you are attempting this transaction during a restricted time period set by your wireless account owner."

I have no weird account restrictions, and I've got a support ticket in AT&T (should hear back by the 16th), but was hoping to get some advice if any other AT&T F400S G3 owners are getting similar messages.
I'll post back with what AT&T tells me on whats going on.
UPDATE (6/12/2014): I knew I needed to link my new IMEI to my old SIM card (from HTC One). Though I had done the update with AT&T last night, it appears that it took a solid 5-6 hours for that update to apply.
The issue I had run into where it would ask me to "sign in" to the AT&T network, but kept redirecting me has resolved itself.
So for potential Korean G3 buyers on AT&T here in the states, remember to call AT&T and have them update your SIM card info to match up to your new IMEI. I had to deal with 6 awful phone support people, but finally landed on someone who knew what she was talking about when I had a chat session with a technical support agent. (The phone people were ridiculous saying I needed to buy a new data plan, or buy a new phone... ugh ::facepalm:: lol).
But after a solid day of rest and the IMEI update, I cannot be any happier... definitely an investment, but considering I buy phones off-contract every few years, this was a very reasonable buy (got it for $720 on ebay with shipping included)--my guess is that the phones off-contract here will run round the 649-699 price... assuming they charge a premium on LG's new flagship.
But as a side note... This phone is awesome! The screen is one of those things you just gotta see. Resolving pixels is difficult to my eyes, and I haven't done a side-by-side with a 1080p phone yet.

Did you try a different browser? Also does it happen on all sites?
Hi again
Thank you so much for your questions/replies!
mrfriday2010- Yes, I have a 10GB Data/unlimited texts and minutes. LTE coverage where I am at was spotty (we got it on one of their later rollouts). I am guessing I am accessing the AWS bands that would have supported the AT&T/T-Mobile deal... but that fell through.
daraj- Also Yes, the issue occurred on the default browser and chrome.

I know you have a 400s, I have a 400L and a LG Gpro2 "S" both of them get LTE voice and Data, some things to think about
do you have correct LTE sim card?
I have had the same issue and I fix it by turning off wifi then back on and it fixes it
for whatever reason the phone seems to have issue going from wifi to data, my GS5 does the same thing

Everything is all good on my F400S now . After AT&T updated my IMEI to match the new device, all is up and running (and also after about 6 hours of letting that update take effect in their systems).
Just weird though, its the first time I have had to do that. Back before the days of LTE, I was able to access 3G from my SIM without having to update IMEI info.
Thanks for your input though .
Also something I noticed about my F400S -- I thought it was interesting that underneath the back cover, towards the top of the phone, it shows F400 S/L. The phone is the S version (SK Telecom), but I am assuming the L version seems to work alright on AT&T as well maybe?

Where are you guys purchasing you G3 from? Amazon or 28mobile?
I picked mine up on eBay. Got it in about a week from order date.
For those of you who got it working on AT&T: Did you just pop your SIM in and go, or did you have to manually create an APN?
I have an L model on the way and I was under the impression that I'd have to manually create an AT&T LTE APN in order for it to work properly. I'm currently on an LTE plan and using an LG G2. I swap sims all the time with no issue.

Ah, yeah. See, the bloggers were saying that the S works out of the box, but the L and K have to have APNs created manually before they will hit AT&T LTE. I guess I'll find out in a few days.

Nah, I do it all the time. I was just curious if that was the experience other L/K users were having. It has been confirmed that all three models work on AT&T's LTE, so I'm not worried.

Question Will T-Mobile carry the new Pixels?

Hoping they do, and there are decent trade-in values as well. This OnePlus 9Pro should cover a majority of a P6P 256gb model to make the transition easy. First time Pixel buyer trying to get off the OnePlus train after 4 models.

Stopped by a local store today, they will definitely stock the devices. They estimated the deals (Trade-in or other) would be available to store employees on Thursday evening or Friday morning.
So buying at Tmobile store, will they add all their spam and crap as opposed to buying unlocked ?

Yes, it should be bloated big time....
Saw the preorder availability on the T-Mobile site. Can't decide if I want to just order unlocked from Google or go thru TMobile. This is the hardest decision!
If you look at the news postings you will find an article on where to get the best deals on the Pixel 6. It has links to T-mobile's site, so I guess it is already up. There are some deals available, with Magenta Max IIRC. It also can be bought from Best Buy (unlocked) and of course Google (free Bose earbuds).
I don't want any phone that doesn't have an unlocked bootloader. While there may be great deals on the 6 from T-mobile I simply wouldn't put up with the crapware that is included, as well as the poor after sale firmware support. It seems to me one of the best reasons for a Pixel is to get regular security and OS updates direct from Google, when first released. It may be that the TM 6 can get security updates direct from Google - I don't know as that has been developing. And there may be a way to unlock the bootloader, which would allow installing a North American unlocked firmware. But if not both then I would buy direct. FWIW I just bought a 5a from Google and am downloading 12 right now.
I'll probably JOD! my 4a 5G for the Pixel 6 as I have the Pixel 6 Pro on pre-order from Google.
What colorway are people most interested in?
Ended up buying the black 256GB from Google directly after seeing my OnePlus 9 Pro wasn't even listed on the trade-in deals and even if it was I'm not changing my plan just for that. Not to mention they are only stocking the 128GB.
People need to be careful where they're ordering from as there is currently a lot of confusion with the 5g bands for the 6 pro. The google support page shows sub-6 missing but according to the Cnet article below most of the other carriers have confirmed that their version will have all the 5g bands that they'll be selling. I've decided to hold off until t-mobile clarifies what their 6 pro will cover compared to the unlocked version before I pull the trigger.
Will Google's Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro work with 5G? The answer is complicated
Google's new Pixel phones have a lot of promise, but also plenty of unanswered questions about 5G support.

This is a non-issue. That page merely omitted the listed of sub-6. Here is a snippet from another Google support page showing what is covered by model. There won't be a new phone like this released without 5G compatibility as it would make no sense, especially given newer modems cover almost all the required bands without any add-on's other than mmWave. Here is the page and shows carrier by carrier compatability:

Just curious...I've been buying my Pixels directly from Google for convenience, because I always prefer max internal storage and carriers don't always offer those.
This year, I wanted to make sure I got the 512 GB model.
Back in 2014, TMobile was running one of those promos where they offered to buy out your contract if you tried them out. They also had the Nexus 6 available for sale, so I decided to give them a shot.
At the time, the Nexus 6 was in high demand, and Tmobile shipped mine the next day. They also tweeted that their Nexus didn't come with all that carrier bloat, poking fun at AT&T.
https://twitter.com/i/web/status/536580024997249024
From what I remember, my Tmobile Nexus 6 64 GB was identical to ones shipped from Google.
I am a Sprint/Tmobile customer and have considered buying through my carrier to get a better deal, but go through Google to insure it is bootloader unlockable and unbloated.
Question: Does Tmobile add bloat/carrier apps to most of their Android devices?
I was just curious because of their stance on the Nexus 6 in 2014, but, of course that was 7 years ago and things change.
The (unlocked) 5a works fine on T-Mobile 5G. It does not support mmWave but that is not very useful for mobile applications anyway (mmWave doesn't have much range and doesn't penetrate walls well). If you are buying a MiFi then you would want mmWave if there is a tower close by. What you are losing is that you won't get the extremely high bandwidth when using the phone as a hotspot, but since there are only a handful of cities with this band available that is more theoretical at this point. BTW I am getting better 5G coverage than 4G LTE in my marina - TM put 5G on a nearby tower that they hadn't been using before. TM 5G is widely available, although not really much faster than 4G LTE.
Even if TM doesn't add bloatware (I'm not sure) it is still locked and probably not going to get the updates as often as the unlocked phone. Google has been working on bypassing the networks and directly upgrading phones but don't know if we are there yet.
Tmo is only carrying the 128gb variant...I pre-ordered the unlocked version from Google.

As you stated, that was then, when John Legere was just beginning the "Uncarrier" hype. I enjoyed the ride, but, now that the ultimate goal has been achieved (merger/acquisition), T-Mobile has been gradually backsliding, the Uncarrier has one foot out the door.
Count on T-Mobile bloatware being pre-installed & not all of it can be uninstalled &/or disabled.
The T-Mobile system apk for diagnostics can have the permissions denied, but, it's the one apk that can't be disabled, even w/an ADB command, or, app freezer.
If you're wanting to root/ROM, I'd steer clear of the T-Mobile branded Pixel 6/Pro.
If T-Mobile Pixels can be converted to US unlocked models (for development), it's news to me...........

I suspect that a TMO 5a or 6xxx can be flashed with the U.S. unlocked firmware, after having been SIM unlocked and then bootloader unlocked. But until someone does it I would consider this a risky proposition, and not worth doing considering that it is easy to buy an unlocked pixel and we know how to root it.

We'll know soon enough, I'll definitely be following this thread & any how-to threads for B/L unlocking.
It's not a deal breaker for me, but, definitely prefer the option to flash unlocked firmware, akin to doing the same w/T-Mobile OnePlus devices........

Thanks for posting and confirming what I was already suspecting. 7 years ago, Tmobile was the dark horse that was working to be seen as a legitimate alternative to the big 3. Former Sprint execs have even admitted they didn't consider T-Mobile to be true competition, compared to Verizon and AT&T.
I can't complain too much. I've have some Tmobile stock that has appreciated quite nicely over the years, and the old "uncarrier" initiatives and increased competition forced carriers like Verizon to allow 3rd-pary unlocked devices to run on their network, yet Tmobile Tuesday "gifts" are also not nearly as generous.
Hoping you can clarify something you mentioned earlier. You said Tmobile phones come with a diagnostic app that can't be removed or disabled. Does that mean that you could use the phone on Verizon/AT&T and still have a Tmobile app unable to be uninstalled, potentially collecting data?
I'm assuming if the the bootloader can be unlocked and rooted that any app can be disabled, but, as you stated, having a Tmobile variant no longer guarantees unbranding and bootloader unlockability.
Some people don't differentiate between whether a phone can be sim unlocked (to use on different carriers) or bootloader unlocked (to root or run custom firmware). That's not a huge deal for most people, but it gives me pause if I was buying a device on the secondary market, like Swappa.
The only way for a buyer to be sure they are getting a bootloader unlockable device is to ask the buyer where they purchased it from. To be fair, Androiid is more polished and no loner requires root to copy and paste or take screen shots, but I still like having the extra freedom and control to install my own updates.
In the future, if Tmobile ever gets all variants of the Pixel, including the 512 GB or 1 TB versions, with fantastic trade-in offers, it may make my decision more difficult, but I like being able to buy my devices directly from the manufacturers, especially for warranty situations, and use the carriers specifically for phone service.

Question Anyone on Verizon have their Fold activated on esim?

Spent hours trying to get this done, what a pain in the @SS!
It thinks the IMEI2 is a physical sim!
They have to fix this crap.
Verizon's support is going down the tubes big time.
I didn't know there is Verizon Fold 4 eSim option? I preordered mine and it arrived last Monday. Activated it the same day. It comes with a new pSim, and I have to admit I am questioning the necessity of pSim if every new phone comes with one (physical sim) and I have no reason to take it out because I won't be changing plans or carriers in the foreseeable future. Why have one? Give me the option to buy a specific/no change/this-carrier-only-forever, and I can save a few bucks? Why the heck not! I am obviously aware of tract phones, or maybe I am not if that is where your question is going to lead.
Verizon - yes
New Fold 4 - yes
Activated - yes
eSim - no
interesting concept I didn't know existed.
The box came with the pokey tool specifically for sim removal. I haven't bothered to double confirm there is actually a sim in the tray that pops out. I trust them, it's there and we know the phone doesn't come with expandable micro sd ability so the tray better have a sim, or why have the tray?
If I were to pop the tray out just to look and that is the only reason for pulling it out, I have a chance of breaking something. Don't do that. That's what pilots do, and then I gotta fix it. LOL
The purpose of having esim is so you can put your primary number on it and have a physical sim slot free. This way if the phone is a work phone (or vice versa) you can have both lines on one device. Also, for traveling it comes in handy. Not sure about Samsung but I know with Apple you can actually have multiple lines registered to esim. Only two lines can be used simultaneously but (again) this comes in handy for travelers that may not have service with a particular carrier but another does, for example.
Carriers have rules too that governor the use of esim registration as well as sim lock. For example a Verizon phone on equipment payment plan (EIP) won't work on TMO on esim. At least not for the intial 60 day period from activation. Other carriers (ATT), for example won't lift the sim lock until the device is paid off.
This is why I always get unlocked devices. Always.
I have a question for you, are you getting 5g on your unlocked phone with Verizon? I got my phone on launch day from Samsung, unlocked and have not had 5g. It was working fine on my prior Note20 ultra...
Would this esim issue solve the problem?

I got my fold 4 on verizon and 5g works. It's didn't work too good at first and then I chatted with customer service a couple of days ago and now I finally get the full speed like I used to. I guess they never activated it properly before.
I've had no problems with 5G.
Unlocked running big red V in Tampa Florida.

Possibly although if it is activated you should be getting whatever services are available.
Interestingly enough, I have two VZW numbers on my Fold 4 currently. One on a physical "5G" SIM provided by VZW in the past month, and the other on esim. Both numbers are on accounts with the highest level plan.
I was in an area that barely got any signal and the number with the physical sim was bouncing between no service and one bar whereas the esim number never completely lost service. Signals for both were in the -120 to -130 dBm range so very, very weak.
It was interesting to see this, however.
I've had both lines on my iPhone 13 Pro Max the same way and often see similar results and the signals showing for each often show different number of bars as well.

The website is so painful to log into... I'll try to chat with someone... Not had the time to go to an office, although not sure if they may be better or worse than chat...

Can you post a screenshot with Verizon activated on esim? I was told it can't be done yet...

Much respect, what did you say to them? How did you do it. It's failed 3 times for me. And I would kill to have Verizon on esim so I can have aren't back to is annoying at times verizon variant or unlocked?
Mine is unlocked direct from Samsung.
I probably spent a total of 6 hours of my time to get this (finally) working over a period of about 1 week. Started with the website. It detected the IMEI as esim and 5G capable and compatible with VZW. Everything looked good but it would not activate at all! Tried a second time and got an error to contact support.
Did that via chat and got nowhere fast. They opened a ticket that they said could take up to a week to get resolved! I called a few more times during this period, transferred around to different people, etc. Still no luck.
The final time that worked was even though Verizon showed up as a carrier I still had no service. I was transferred to someone else that did more TS and finally asked me for the EID. After about 10 minutes, she came back and had me power off the phone. When it came back on I did see Verizon showing up along with my number. It took a few minutes and texts started coming through and I had voice and data!
It was a royal PIA. Perhaps everyone will benefit now that Apple is switching to esim ONLY as it will REQUIRE the carriers to get their S4iT together and make this process smoother. Because this was a total cluster-f!

When I scan the cr is says my plans not setup and will not detect me
They need the IMEI 2 (esim) AND EID. Have no idea why they are having such a hard time with the newest Samsung phones! I was having the same issue initially.
What are the benefits of switching to esim? Besides having the sim slot available for an additional line or other carrier?
Not needing to carry two phones!
Anyone have an update regarding getting Verizon to activate your esim? They still won't activate mine, and I'm tired of carrying 2 phones (work and personal).
