Discussion about discussion thread - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Title says it all.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium

Still dont understand why there are separate discussion threads for every ROM out there...anywhere else you go the discussion about the ROM stays in the Dev thread so that issues can be talked about and resolved in one place...
Call me crazy, but it just seems stupid to me to junk up the forums with all kinds of threads about threads....

Lol. Sorry, couldn't help myself.

Because some of us don't have enough posts in the forum to go to the developers thread and address our issues there. I'm sure once most people reach that minimum of 10 posts you'll see less and less of them in the general section

But seriously, basically what it boils down to is the Dev threads were, long ago, ONLY for Developers, i.e. developers working on a ROM openly discussing code, etc., maybe beta testers (sanctioned, not the masses of us) reporting in their bugs etc. NOW most Dev threads are for pretty much everything directly related to that ROM, and sometimes a little off topic. Not to say thats how EITHER should be, just pointing out history and todays reality. Some devs encourage open discussion in their threads, anybody with questions or issues to post and they can watch one forum, some request a thread in General for anything that isnt 'Development'... which is kinda vague, but I think the idea is to set it up that way to avoid the dumb posts that already violate rules anyways (i wanna have your baby, etc), but is enforced vigilante style by indviduals who even amongst themselves dont have the same OPINIONS as to what is relevant in there anyways. It all seems ridiculous, but thats how it is. I suggest following the Devs requests, dont break any real rules, and maybe we should ask the devs if they would prefer the questions directly pertaining to their ROM be in their thread, or in a million General or Q&A threads... and flag the minimods if theyre abusive (against the rules).

That sounds good. Can I subscribe to your magazine?

[POLL] The Holy Flame War is Upon Us - (D-Day) - War Briefing: Day 4

I'm sure all of you are getting sick of the flood of questions that come in and the single question and answer thread is just too long to go through to find questions let alone answer them. Hopefully we can get enough people on board to let the moderators know that this is a welcome addition. Seeing as how many phones have highest number of threads in the Q&A section, I think it is a worthy addition.
Problems:
1) Lack of moderation - the volume of posts, especially from new users is higher than the what can reasonably be moderated by the current number of moderators.
2) Relevant threads containing real information are buried by new threads (many which are off topic or not posted in the correct forum)
3) The forum is disorganized, which exacerbates the issue of new users asking duplicate, off topic, poor, misinformed questions.
4) There is an incredible lack of information for new users on usage, which creates a contentious atmosphere between new users and senior members who re-answer the same questions over and over, most of the time about HOW to use the forum and search features.
5) User modifiable resources like the wiki are unknown or obfuscated from new and long time members alike, thus rarely used. (On a side note....we should all be using the wiki to push pertinent information, valueable posts, references and guides up so that noobs (and experienced users also) can find them easier.)
Proposed Solutions:
1) Create additional subforums to help organize posts into relevant categories. (I vote for at least Q&A. MOST popular forums on XDA have this, so there is certainly precedent.)
2) Better sticky posts, with clearer titles. "Hello from your moderator." is not as clear to a new user as "[MANDATORY README]-[FORUM RULES][QUESTIONS][INSTRUCTIONS][If you don't read this you will be flamed, harrassed, possibly shanked in your sleep!]" You are reading this thread because of the title...that or you saw the DVDA postfix...you sick sick bastard...either way I win.
3) More moderators. It is far too hard for Whosdaman to constantly update sticky posts with relevant info. It is up to everyone here to get that info out so we aren't bombarded with questions that have been answered a hundred times. Wiki anyone?
4) We have a great resource in user editable wiki. There is a lot of stuff that can be done BETTER on a wiki than in a 1000 post thread, like reference material, guides, and instructions. We need to make it obvious to ALL users that the wiki exists and get people on board with updating it. Threads are a great way to hash out possible solutions and have a group discussion, but a lot of times what people need is a reference or guide and they shouldn't have to search a 1000 post thread to pull the relevant information.
5) Original posters need to update their OP when new information is revealed or when there is misinformation in a post. Having a post that's title says your flash cell is about to explode only to have to read 600 posts to find out that this information is untrue helps no one. Discussion is GREAT. Misinformation is NOT, and only fuels the confusion and duplicate thread issues.
From The Front Line:
Thanks for the outpouring of support and ideas to help get the ball rolling. Several of our ideas have been recently implemented so I am really hoping for some good news next war update.
20110109: Woot! We now have Q&A. Thanks mods and supporters!
20110109: My social experiment of double entendre "sticky posts" has 2000 views in only a couple of days. I'm not going to call this one confirmed, but if it stopped even 1 bad thread it was worth it.
20110109: We have sticky wiki in all the subforums. Now we need to add content to the wiki before people stop using it.
One Last Thing:
There are very few things we can change with regard to how many new users visit this forum, or the knowledge level of these users. The only thing we CAN do is make what they need to do as obvious as possible to these users, so that we can spend more time coding and writing relevant posts, instead of redirecting people to the search button, or frustration flaming newbies.
+1 agreed. This is ridiculous, it's a clusterf**k in these forums. Q & A is exactly what we need.

No, Q&A IS the general forum. What is needed is a sticky in the general forum with a CLEAR and concise description of how to:
root
use Odin
use clockwork
flash themes
flash roms
battery saving methods
airplane mode trick
DRM services and how to stop them
and ANYTHING else that gets asked multiple times a day. I dont know if some sort of limited moderator status can be granted, but if so it would be nice for noobnl, Daemon and a bunch of others to have said status and be able to update this sticky at any time. I am sure there are a ton of people who would be glad to do it.
Then, what is needed is a sticky called FROYO SPECULATION, where EVERY thread that deals with speculation of the coming Froyo release is moved, and all discussion of that topic is directed.

That is EXACTLY what the Wiki is for. But people either don't know about it, use it, or update it. Anyone can update the wiki. Leaving all of the cleanup to moderators isn't fair, or effective at getting stuff up quickly. There should be better indication to go to the wiki and more people need to start using it.

Thats fine, but where the eff is the wiki? A person who just bought their epic and signed up would NEVER find it. There needs to be like a flashing light and have the font in size 4.2 million saying "Epic 4g XDA User Manual" or something like that.

I agree. Or a sticky at the top of ALL of the subforums linking to the wiki. There used to be a STICKYWIKI post, but the title got changed.
I agree the wiki needs serious editing and updating, and we should all be somewhat responsible. Maybe if you flame a newbie, you have to add a paragraph, like a swear jar smoothone, get typing hahaha.. sorry... had to... but I get the feeling you dont mind.
Honestly, I wish sprint would just say screw you, no froyo. This way, people would move on, keep developing, not thinking to wait on that elusive source code... and stop *****ing. The repeat questions, etc werent that bad until that stupid 26th thing brought a bunch of new people at once, so everyone here who was already waiting and annoyed, then get bombarded with new people who heard about XDA from engadget.
BTW... wheres those two who had those super secret sources?????? Kinda quiet....
Bloggers: do not cite an XDA member, or their word they have a good source unless they show you the goods! Somehow, everyone thinks XDA really knows more than the average joe... and dont trust Sprint sales info or personnel!!!!
Sure, let's create yet ANOTHER ignored forum that the mod(s) get to monitor and spend more time on while every single new user here ignores it and the search button just to post the question anyway.
Instead of making a new forum, we need another moderator added to help manage the forum.
And make a post count minimum to START a new thread!! Too many ppl coming over straight from google and, not knowing how to use xda (or their effen owners manual) to its fullest.

Dumping questions to a Q&A forum creates less clutter for the other forums, thus relevant threads will more likely be in the first two pages.

I love that idea, but there are occasionally relevant posts from new users. I would like to think that not EVERYONE that initially comes to XDA is a moron. But I guess I'm a glass half full kind of guy.
It looks like a lot of people are in favor of it.
The Q&A forum will just be full of people asking the SAME QUESTIONS over and over and over again. Why not just create a sticky that either links to an updated wiki or better yet that lays out nicely how to do basic things with the Epic4g?

That's ok, as long as the questions aren't in the other forums. But I agree, sticky to the wiki should be on all subforums.
Personally I don't care if the Q&A forum is filled with spam repost topics. All I, and others, want is for the it to be quarantined.

That will happen in any forum. We do need a sticky, but don't expect that to stop the noobs from asking before reading.
I see that some of the other Galaxy phones here on xda have a Q&A in addition to a general section. General is used for general discussion and Q&A is for all questions. It seems like it would be more obvious for noobs to wander into the Q&A section to ask questions and hopefully save the mods some effort while also cleaning up our little corner of this website.

Praise and a small moan...

Hello all,
I have to say I love this site. I am a daily visitor and, although I am new, have learned much about ROMs. I do have a moan though. I'm currently running Shed's Gingerbread for the Eris and have located what I think is a bug. Unfortunately, I'm not allowed to notify him or ask others for for info in that specific forum because I dont have 10 posts yet. I'm tempted to just post random messages to make it to the limit but dont want to clutter the board with messages that mean nothing. It would be nice if that feature was removed so myself, and others like me, can contribute to the development of the ROM.

Hi,
Please don't go posting "junk" posts about, as they will just get deleted and you'll get a warning from someone. You'll be at ten posts in no time, and if you take a visit to off-topic, there is plenty of interesting discussion to suit all interests
Regarding the "bug", you should perhaps make a thread in the general/Q&A forum for your device, and give the details there.
The reason for this is because without the restriction, we see all manner of new threads made in development forums with little or no purpose, and this does a very good job of keeping everything much easier to find
Hi,
I'm concerned too...don't really get the point of 10 posts policy ...don't think that 10 posts will make me a developer
...not much more than now...
Do you think that force people to chitchat on other threads when they want to talk about dev is really constructive?
I wanna share my usage impressions on custom rom so If you want consider this as my first silly step to the 10...

There's an extensive thread discussing the reasoning for this.
After 10 posts, you should understand the rules on XDA, and how they apply.
If you have to "earn" the privilege to post in dev, then you have likely looked for why you need to do it, and stumbled upon the rules.
Dev forums are for development and dev related discussion. Not for support or queries. They go in general or Q&A.
The vast majority of "useless" posts like "when will it be released" are made by users with < 10 posts, so there is an obvious correlation between postcount and quality of posts. If people take a look around and read the rules and other threads, they'll see how things work, and be ready to get stuck in and not annoy people

[IDEA] Development for the welfare of our community

So why are we the only forum that has to have 40 generals for each rom, why are we not like every other phone where the chat about the rom is done in development? I feel this could alleviate a lot of the "RentaMods." Since i found it to be an easy way to find solutions to many issues... for example the galaxy nexus there roms they don't have 5 different threads for one rom... guess where people talk about the developers rom... in the developer thread... guys i know this is earth-shattering stuff... but let's just keep it simple one thread one rom.
I await my ban with GLORY, but i consider this development since it is essential to our community at e4gt xda since it is causing problems between many users.
this rom is the bomb!!

riggggght this belongs in dev, isnt this just like trying to be the forum police?? arent there already rules of the forum (stickied at the top of each section) that should take care of this...
as for this whole idea that talking in a dev thread should be fine, most of the chatter is the same damn questions every three pages! if everyone would not be lazy and again follow the forum rules 3/4's of most threads wouldnt exist.
my point is why do we seem to be the only phone that has a clusterfuck of twenty threads instead of a clusterfuck of one thread?

i dont see why it matters what the general or q&a sections look like or amount of threads, thats what they are there for. why should everyone have the right to turn a dev thread into a clusterfuck?? as for the rest of the forums i only frequent the nook color section and the dev section is HEAVILY moderated and respected
I came from the EVO ROM section it's not half as ridiculous as this forum when it comes to being watched. I don't think I ever posted in the general section for a ROM. Yes the questions get redundant but most of the time it's just as easy to answer the question as it is to ***** that it's in the wrong section or that it's a frequently answered question. Not to mention that a lot of people troll these roms from tapatalk or the xda apps which offers virtually no convenient search functionality. yes Google works but not half as well a everyone acts like it does. It took me 30 minutes to search for a specific thing that had been "talked about frequently" in the forum through google. but could have been answered easily enough and in less time then it took to post a lmgtfy link. it's a forum people are going to ask questions it's the purpose of the site period.
All it comes down to is this.
Certain devs request certain guidelines for their development threads.
Do they have the right to request that?
I think so.
And being as the devs make the community, their wishes should be respected.
Not ignored and spit on.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Plus have you looked at the general section lately? People post **** about iPads.....iPads! Which have absolutely nothing to do with e4gt at all! fav modems, games, stupid **** that has no specifics about a particular rom at all. Random rants who wants to dig through that kind of **** to find an answer to a question that a developer or senior member who has been in the forum for a bit can answer in a short conscious answer. I answer plenty of noob questions because I know a while ago I was in the same place.
I don't consider myself a "DEVELOPER" but I've posted couple of roms.
I don't want to have multiple threads for my roms because it will take more time from me to follow all of them.
I think, if you have questions, bug reports, problems with my rom you should ask, talk, report them in rom thread so the members of the forum who use my development can find all the questions and answers in one thread.
And it's easier for me to keep eye on all problems related to my rom.

OP has a point... in the OG epic forums most threads had just the dev thread, and the threads could be really helpful and relatively BS free, like midNIGHT, or 500 pages of insanity like viper or ACS... but really there wasnt ever ROM threads in general. I assumed this was an EVO thing, as I had heard that forum was nuts with kids posting inane crap and flaming... idunno. It seems like this phone attracts a lot of disgruntled people... tons of minimodding and attitude... sad really. Its not like the community for this phone is so big that we cant keep out dev threads relatively clutter free, but some members choose to flame everyone who asks a ROM RELATED question in the ROM thread... makes no sense. If you REALLY feel you need to censor and judge the validity of every post in the precious Dev section, DONT respond with another post, ignore them till someone helpful (theres usually one or two who 'troll' every rom helping people out... bastards...) answers their question, and YOU flag the oh so offensive post and even PM a mod, maybe we will get a clearer picture that the minimodding creates WAY more posts than the questions or occasional side topic.
Also, I think this is a little different now, as back on the OG Epic, a lot of dev discussion was done in the threads, not IRC (I havent been in a chatroom since like '99) or ROM specific websites, or PM.... everyone was involved. Really if you weed out everything that isnt ACTUAL DEVELOPMENT of the given ROM in a thread, you would have about two pages... so whats the point of the Dev section? I think theres a lot of much undeserved elitism going on where people dont want to be bothered by all the tapatalk notifications because someone else has a question... try just actually looking at the thread and see if theres an update to the OP or something... but lighten up... this phone has a lot of stick up the ass people... get over yourself.
To be honest, I pretty much only see 2 threads at most for a given rom, one in general and one in development. If you hear of a general thread being referred to, then it shouldn't be hard to find and use it.
Want to hear ironic? For whatever reason, the general thread gets ignored, so the dev thread is overrun. Where do people move to continue development, teamwork, and quality help? The general thread.
When did you first see the aokp rom? :sly:

And if would have read earlier in the thread you'd see that the decision to have two threads (one for questions and such and another for development) is totally up to the developer of the ROM himself.
While some don't want that, others do.
And I don't see what's so hard about complying with what they want.

Dev section for devs only

Can we make the development section only accessible to rom developers? That will stop all the questions and clutter in the development section and will force people to ask questions in the q&a and will have it so if people wanna thank the development they just hit the thank you button instead of posting it.
I think it would be cleaner. Since only devs can post they can help each other out and post relevant code and hacks.
What does everyone think?

I think it's a great idea as long as the devs post a 2nd thread in Q&A for us.

I don't speak for the dev's but from what I've read they seem to get helped by user comments. Now the random thanks and "OMG"s are useless but I think user comments are very helpful, lets developers identify bugs faster and see if there is a bug that develops if a user installs in a certain way or not...
I don't think this approach would be feasible. Mainly, how do you define someone as a developer? Many people have all sorts of working knowledge regarding Linux and Android and can provide valuable information to ROM developers yet they themselves would not be considered a developer.
Furthermore, developers tend to want feedback regarding bugs and workaround for their ROM's.
Just my 2 cents.
Some of the devs don't mind the comments and want as much feedback as they can get so I vote no
This thread is about as useful the posts it's griping about.

there is nothing wrong with the dev section now besides some users lack self control. if a dev wants the thread to be dev only and has a Q&A thread then practice good judgement and self control and use the Q&A thread if needed.
I don't mind users posting in my threads in the dev section but that's just me.
I don't feel crippling the functionality of a forum board to stop people who practice poor judgement and cannot follow directions from posting, is a good idea for the community as a whole.

how does one become a dev if they just start deving or has yet to gain RD status?
Totally not needed. If a dev only wants 1 page for their thread they can immediately close the thread and just update the OP when there is a new update. Might as well tell the devs just PM each other lol. not trying to come off mean, but giving some blunt scenarios.
I just feel it would be sort of like a dev only hang out where aspiring developers or can get constructive feedback from fellow developers.
For example let's say someone new has a rom they want to put on the development section. They first post it in the general section, then after a certain "review" process by the xda members it gets upgraded into the development section.
I'm not saying the dev section is bad, but I feel as this is a dev forum, it only makes sense that devs have their own section to discuss codes and hacks, where they can mutually grow and learn.

how does one become a dev if they just start deving or has yet to gain RD status?
Totally not needed. If a dev only wants 1 page for their thread they can immediately close the thread and just update the OP when there is a new update. Might as well tell the devs just PM each other lol. not trying to come off mean, but giving some blunt scenarios.

Or what about the users like me who just do things on occasion and have chose to not get "Dev" status. want to throw me out in the cold?
Like i said above, with explanation. this is not a good idea and should not be deployed in any form.

Well they can have sort of like a "coder" status where you would be able to contribute. I think what I'm trying to get to is having the dev section be mostly about helping other devs and improving roms rather than "thanks a bunch, this is my dd ". I'd want to be able to enter a rom thread and just see information about the rom, improvements that have been made, and when people are replying , they are exchanging ideas on how to fix certain bugs.
I think pm'ing is okay, but not everyone can learn how the process works. And someone like me for example that's trying to learn how to develop roms won't be able to follow the development conversation.
It seems I'm the only one that feels this way I guess.

I get what you're saying, but in the long run it will be more counter productive to the dev community then people posting "thanks this is my dd"
Or yaldak who has less than 100 hundred posts clearly this is harder than people self regulating and posting q and as
I would be disappointed to see the dev forums go to strictly dev's. I am relatively new to xda. I do not make unnecessary comments and I have donated to 2 devs as an appreciation of their work. I also like to keep up on what is working with new roms or not. It is really the beauty of Android that devs are able to do this at all. Establishing the rules of who could post in such a forum would be interesting as well. maybe stickies at the beginning of each dev forum (i haevn't looked to see if its there) to show how to do log cats might be more helpful and allow the rest of us to provide solid feedback instead of "Thanks" or "thanks...this is my DD" maybe a separate button for This is my daily driver would eliminate a lot of the crap?
What I want to know is how many threads do we need about not posting rhetoric in the dev section, how to regulate the forums, etc...? In the end, this is the same rhetoric clogging other sections.

They probably would go away if threads like the more roms more roms didn't appear in the dev section where the op posted a question in the wrong section then didn't feel like owning up to it so he proceeded to be a jerk to xraver and other posters.
Personally I like the dev board just the way it is
That is the reason I made this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1592170
Update: oops...didnt mean the above link
Meant the ics read me first topic
Not to be over dramatic, but to just help people get started and answer some common questions. The "thanks" posts, while plentiful, are a good thing to me personally because it tells me how many people are having a good experience with the ROM and/or mod. I don't like to shun users in threads; I feel that I do not need to police them. No matter what mechanism we put in place people will still make these posts. That is why we have moderators, to take care of the problem when it gets out of hand. And that is why--when being an OP in the Dev section-- its good to be very detailed and verbose (but not over complex!)
Just my 2 cents, and my personal policy on my own topics.
I am strongly against limiting the dev boards to devs only. I am completely for helping cut down redundancy.
I think that each dev should have control over there threads. Some like the thanks some think its a waste. I side with both, i will say that the devs that do not want thanks as posts should make that clear in the op. The only problem with the threads is there is way to many pages to read thru for sometimes nothing about the rom. I say to fix this someone somehow should keep the op uptodate with any issue that comes up. Now none has to read all the pages to get the info and i know its a lot to ask but its just a thought.
I have always thought the that if you aren't posting a log cat to the bug you speaking about, it's not helping the dev that much. IMO, and I know it don't mean much, if you aren't posting a log cat, don't post in the rom thread. Q&A threads can handle everything else.

What is your patience level for newbie-esque questions?

You know, newbies (like I myself am quite often) who ask dumb questions that can be easily answered with a five second google search.
Sometimes we get confused and ask questions that should be easily answered.
Sometimes we're just lazy or frustrated and ask instead of search.
Sometimes we're on our phones and searching is a PITA compared to just asking.
I get a little "short" with these questions, even though I too behave like a newb sometimes.
I try to be patient, but sometimes I come across as sarcastic in my replies.
I guess I have a low patience level then. I need to be better with my replies.
What about you?
Let's try to keep this conversation as constructive/friendly as possible. :good:
Meh, I have patience. But on this site, there's to many chiefs and not enough indians. I'm so sick and tired of people with responses like "use the search bar man" or "why don't you read the thread" those answers are just as dumb as the dumb questions and also "spam" dev threads.
I've always had the mentality that there's no such thing as a stupid question.
People have always and always will ask questions without doing searches....it will never change.
So don't be an ass when you see "stupid questions" its not hurting you in any way and just help the damn people.

I guess I'm torn. I'm a new who knows nothing about code or programing but I also realize that its a dev site. The extra noobs here help spread the devs work to more people than they would have had use their work before. The easy to find solutions questions will happen.
I realize the dumb questions happen but I do my best to realize if someone tried sincerely to find a solution.
Zelendel's off quoted post makes sense when it comes to how we are viewed when we need help.

I try to help to the best of my ability with as much patience as possible. However, if I search and find it within seconds, I may come off as a little rude, and usually start the post with "please remember to use the search bar in the future. I found the answer within seconds....." and then below that I answer their questions. =p

questions
I understand that XDA is primarily intended as a development site, but I think things often get taken too far. I have been on XDA for about 3 years since before rooting my first Android phone. This, in fact, is about my fourth post. I am still locked out from posting in the Development forums. I do read several almost daily.
I understand the need to keep the volume of BS to a minimum on those forums, but I also feel the the developers do have a need/obligation to help people that are having issues with problems that they do not have the resources to troubleshoot or understand, and to raise the level of knowledge of all forum members. They publish many great ROMS, Kernals, utilities, etc on these forums with the expectation that everyone out there, including me are their Beta testers. They obviously are looking for feedback and results that other people are having to fix bugs, update instruction and documentation, and get ideas for future enhancements.
Most of the Developers are NOT entertaining any discussion of developing on these forums anyway. They obviously are either doing their work or collaborating with others offline of the respective forums.
Aside from blatant trolling, or a complete lack of self-initiative, I believe all questions should be welcomed and answered. Maybe this needs to be in in a sub-forum under the development thread that also helps us find valid information. One Q&A thread to support all of the I747 initiatives becomes a bit too general and overwhelming.
My two cents. Thanks for the space to say it.
I don't have any tolerance..
This is a DO AT YOUR OWN RISK website
A DEVELOPMENT website.
Its OK to be informative when the other person knows exactly what they are doing.
But to walk somebody every step of the way in my point of view its unnecessary. Devs don't have any responsibility over what happens to your phone. Nor do they need to do everything possible to make your phone work. I can cook a ROM and post it in the dev thread and say "absolutely nothing works but phone calls." I have no obligation to fix anything or make anything happen. Its a piece of work I chose to develop and share with other who are experienced and know what they are doing. Most problems, I'd say 90% of them, from a "stable" ROM come from the users end. Its is a persons duty as an individual to know what you got yourself into and to figure out a way to fix it. A lot of people still don't comprehend that.
I also have no tolerance into trying to turn XDA into a "social network" If you keep in touch with other members here outside of XDA then that's cool, but this needs to stay a development site...
I hate seeing the whole "I flashed this now my phone isn't working." My answer is always the same "Good, that way you learn." We all don't use the search bar or bother to use Google. Its a bad habit, specially on this site, but we all do it. But reading an OP should be the least thing anyone should do.. Most questions that are being asked are answered in the OP. And if you don't have the time to read a couple pages into a ROM thread, you shouldn't be flashing or messing with anything at all.
Once again I'll say, this is a do at your own risk. Its exactly why you get disclaimers in the OP of a rom.No one is going to hold your hand when you brick your phone.
Read read read and if you question yourself about modifying your phone, don't do it lol phones come with an already stable firmware on them.

The devs on here DO NOT have an obligation to anyone. Many build a rom for their own use and choose to share it. Others are out to achieve the perfect rom for their own use. For this reason some entertain problems while others will not. They do not have to help you if they choose not to. Many times, the question or problem presented has been asked and answered more than once, but rather than take the time to do a search and read a little, people want to have the answer handed to them. Welcome to a place where each individual is responsible for their own actions!
For the reason of questions, that is why XDA created Q&A. The developer threads are for developing and feedback (which is at the OP's discretion to act upon), not to answer questions you have. As far as overwhelming, this is why each section in XDA has the ability to do a search within...so you can narrow down the options.
