Anyone know how to tighten the slider mechanism for the keyboard?
My XDA IIs is really loose, if I hold the XDA upright and slide the keyboard
out it wil slide back down on its own.
Need to tighten this somehow.
Anyone?

Same problem here, I took a piece of felt and attatched it right under the space bar it helped some would like a better solution if anyone has found one.
Only ONE SOLUTION = SEND IT BACK!
I've sent my second one back last week. If you look at a thread a few months ago regarding pictures of the inside, you can see that there are NO SCREWS in relation to the tightening of the slider. It's just metal sliding on metal so once it's worn, it's worn for good. With my typical usage these devices seem to have a life of about 4 months before I have to send them back. I'm waiting on number 3 now...

You mean they replace the whole unit? or just the metal thing?
I had mine a couple of weeks now, and when I got the unit, the keyboard was tight as a V..... but now, i can push it out with no effort, good thing its protected in a metal case.

I sent mine back today for both a loose keyboard and the fact that pressing one button seems to activate like 2 or 3 others.
My keyboard became too loose to stay up very soon after I first got the unit. I did however spill coke all over it and after that the screen stayed up perfectly for months
Probably not a recommendable solution though.

How to fix the issue
You need to get a coffee can and then put the blue angel device in it. Fill it up with gas and light it afire. Now stop complaining and go buy a alpine. Blue Angel devices where the worst device HTC has ever released.

I fixed mine
The red color surrounds the responsible area of the mechanism slider.
So you just need tape and rubber matirial about 1mm thickness or use the same tape used on the housing "it's surrounded in yellow ", attach it from the back to force the cliper...
You can test the slider b4 closing the housing cover..
Do this at your own risk!!!

the problem now is... how to open xda IIs ??
i already open from back side, but i can't separate the keyboard from the screen.... is there anyone who have step by step to separate keyboard from screen then we can solve this sliding problem.... thanks....
there are 4 screws holding the keyboard on the screen.. slide the keyboard all the way open and two are at the top and the other two you can access through holes on the keyboard that line up with them.. the parts that the keyboard slide on are not metal.. they are plastic and melted into place if you look closely.. you can take very small pieces of plastic and super glue them in the correct places to tighten the screen up some.. just takes a little enginuity
Anyone got a problem with the fit of the sim cover?
I didn't notice any gapping when I took the phone out of the box but after fitting sim card, when I replace the sim cover there is a distinct gap....very small, much less than 1mm.
I've had the cover on an off half a dozen times but can't get it to fit back snugly

I've the same problem.
The gap of the SIM cover is about 0.5mm.
As far as I remember it didn't exist when I unpacked the phone.

as well as sliding on from either side i put a tiny amount of pressure on the middle to keep it down so the plastic guides were in line
My sim cover sticks out on the right side (looking from top to bottom). Any way we can buy a new one?

Not only a poor fit and a gap! but the quaity of it is just pathetic!
It crumbled and kinked between my fingers the first time I tried to remove it.
Why on earth bother to make a perfect alloy housing and chassis and then stick a flimsy piece of plastic on the thing! It should be made from alloy too!

agreed, mine doesn't stick outwards, it's just not a snug fit.. i've almost broken mine aswell taking it off!
definitely not the build quality i'm used to from HTC..

Didn't work for me. I've tried perhaps 2 dozen times, always get the gap .
It is clicking into place though so at least its secure
The gap between the screen and the case is also slightly wider at the top than the bottom. Maybe the bottom cover is fitting perfectly and its the rest of the case that's slightly off?!?!
You guys probably have phones from some early production batch since mine fits perfectly, no problems what so ever.
First of all you cant make the cover from alluminum - the antenna woun't work. Second - my phone had a nasty gap when I bought it, but when I installed my SIM I took great care in closing the cover. The gap isn't there any more. You have to position the cover correctly in fully open position, then press LIGHTLY on the cover where the two locking teeth are ang GENTLY slide it in position. It worked for me. And remember that you have to be very gentle with it, because it can break easyly and AFAIK there are no replacements for now...

Sim Card Too Big?
Just got mine today and I had the same issue, think mine was because my sim card (a t-mobile one I've had for, dunno, at least 4 or 5 years now?) was slightly too long. I noticed the little ridges on the inside of the cover were leaving small dents in the sim card where I'd been shoving, so I used a nail file to remove a tiny amount from the blank end of the card and it seems to shut a lot better now.
Going to to try to fix the gap on the battery cover next...
Don't get me wrong, love the phone, but it has got to be one of the worst unboxing experiences ever, forcing you to fiddle with these two ****ty little plastic covers before you can use your expensive new toy. I seriously thought I'd broken my battery cover trying to get it off before I've even got to unwrapped the battery!
Just watched the various videos on you tube at the launch yep the gap is there .. seems normal I've put a gel cover over mine so not overly concerned

My gnex makes cracking sound when grabbed.
The sound is only coming from the left side about 1.5cm below volume rocker. There is no movement of any parts of the phone just that frigging sound.
Now should I send it for replacement/repair or just live with it? Its £500 phone and something like this happening after a week of usage?

Did you try removing and replacing the battery cover? It might not be in properly?
I got mine yesterday and have noticed that the back cover has a bump in it, as if its not sat down correctly,in the same place as the OPs phone, iv taken the back off and back on again so many times to try to get it right!!!... doesn't want to know...not sure if its the cover or the phone....its going back tomorrow...not good for a £500 phone....hopefully I'll get a good one...

I have the same issue. I thought it's just the way it is on this phone, the back cover is really cheap.. I can even see a very small bump on one side.
The problem is that this is happening even without the cover on the phone. I take the cover off from the phone and press on the side of it I can still here cracks. There is so many things I love about this phone, dictation or the screen or the actual size and thinness of the phone. Unfortunately samsung is making their devices from really thin and cheap plastic. Have the same problem on my samsung galaxy tab 10.1 on the back cover. it feels like the back cover is going to come of the device. The only reason I didn't return my galaxy tablet is because I got the free cover with it which means I don't really feel the back.
Unfortunately due to lack of the covers for samsung galaxy nexus I cannot resolve this issue that way which will be satisfactory for me. ps I just said the above text, I love this phone

Bottom left. Left to the "SAMSUNG" logo, where back cover joins with the rest of the body.
EDIT: I've just attached picture of that bump.

Hmm Nothing here. I ran my finger all the way round where the battery cover joins the body and its flush all the way round.
I just removed the battery cover and put it back on, and still couldn't reproduce it. I did notice tho putting the cover back on is not really straight forward. if you're looking at the back of the phone:
- There's two tabs at the bottom of the cover which need to slide in - cover pushed downwards into the body.
- Theres a tab on the right which has to be slid in towards the right.
- There's a tab on the left which has to be slid in downwards.
Trying to do all three at the same time is a bit weird. I find putting the bottom right tab in and he right tab in together, then slightly bend the battery cover to slide the bottom left and left one in. Then push the rest down. If you don't slide the tabs into where they slot in, you can't push them down properly afterwards.
i thought 5 year olds knew how to put battery covers on
it comes off top to bottom, so when you go back to put it on, snap it in bottom to top

Yeah, that bump comes from not putting the back on properly - I've done that once

what I meant is not the actual battery cover, is the frame around a phone that is making a cracking sound and its located roughly about 1.5 centimeters below volume rocker. Basically its normally were you would hold the phone

The bump is definitely due to not putting the cover on properly - I just tried it now. (the left clip needs to be pushed into the phone and then slide downwards to latch on).
But the cracking sounds definitely seem like an issue with your nexus. I just squeezed all the way round the housing, with cover on and off and I dont have any cracking sound at all.
I would send it back for a replacement, who knows it might get worse, or have a broken housing inside.

Seriously though that creak would drive me crazy. Its not that heavy so there is no reason to stress the body.
My Transformer will creak if I hold it with one hand while picking it up because of the weight. Perhaps it wasn't sealed properly?

Not sure if you have a specific problem but I have noticed the best way to put the back on in general is to start at the bottom and make sure you click every one on your way to the top.
I got the CDMA screen... there is a difference in the case that the screen is on.
Is there a way to remove the case and just use the screen?
The phone on the right is my GSM phone and the one on the left is the CDMA version.
The screen is EXACTLY the same I just need to change the back somehow and I cant find anywhere how to do it.
Please help!!!
I don't see why not, they are essentially the same phone. I would compare teardowms between the two phones before I would try though.

LOTS of heat from a heat gun to melt the insanely strong adhesive, lots of patience with a spudger to pry it away, and an act of god that you don't shatter the LCD while trying to pry it off. Then, hope that it actually IS the same LCD. There's a huge chance the connectors don't fit the same way.

It could potentially be the same thing, just with a different frame.
I'll see if I can ask a Sprint tech nicely to give me a defective one that I can try to throw on a GSM frame.
Yay, I love fun projects.
If you want to see if it will work, plug the LCD flex cable from the CDMA screen into the GSM board, then tape the battery to the contacts and try to power it on. If it starts to boot up and you can see the screen, it should be good with a different frame. If it doesn't feel like it's going to fit, don't force it though. You'll screw up your board, then you'll have bigger problems.

I got a really good deal on this screen and I thought it would be able to fit because the screens are exactly the same.
Is heat gun my only option? (Can i use a hairdryer as a heat gun?)

You can use a hair dryer but it will take longer. It will eventually come up though. Be patient and don't force it. Heat it, then pry gently, heat some more, pry some more and so on until it comes off. Be very, very careful!

I would heat the frame - that's the part you're going to be pulling off.
But seriously, I know they look like they're the same thing, but try what I said before. The iPhone 3G and 3Gs screens look identical, but the flex cable fits differently onto the motherboard. Before you do all the work to remove the frame, just check it.

So has anyone successfully separated the display form the frame??
Separating the display from the chassis is fairly simple. Separating the glass screen from the digitizer is nearly impossible.
Btw... separating the digitizer cable straight down the middle is also fairly simple, but it is not recommended.
So a few days ago I began to notice that the back of my phone is now creaking, I first heard it when i went to pick my phone up the other morning and it sounded like an old hardwood floor creaking sound, it's progressively gotten worse to where now when i hold my phone during a call if i shift my hand at all the person on the other line can hear it. I was wondering if anyone else had this problem. The creaking seems to be isolated to (if you're staring at the back of the phone) the left half of the phone just below the power button and stops creaking above the phone model number beneath the glass.

I've noticed this too but after putting my diztronic case over it, the creaking stopped.
My phone rattles when a tap my fingers next to the lens or put the phone down. No creakng yet.

They have a similar thread on the international optimus g page with the same complaint. I wonder if the Nexus owners do to.
Edit: the Nexus has the same issue. Just Google nexus 4 and rattle. Seems pretty wide spread.

So this makes me curious as to what other defects its going to have, but I'm on to a different issue, phone dropped about 2" and the digitizer broke, so when my new screen comes in i will do a walk through tutorial on how to replace it... starting to wish i had gone with the GS3...
Mine is also doing that. Just started to notice it today. Kinda makes my opinion of the build quality a little less. But still love the phone. Minus the messaging bug. LOL.

If I use my shoulder to hold the phone to my ear I get a creaking sound too. That's the only time I've heard it though. I imagine it has to do with the glass back.
Here, too. It's the camera side, right below it, that creaks. Fortunately, it's only noticeable when I deliberately squeeze it.

Hey, so I just noticed that if I flip the phone over and orient it so the camera is on top, then it will creak when I push on the left side. You can also see the casing move in slightly. It's almost as if it's broken somewhere but you can't see any crack.
I thought the people at Best Buy had said the back was glass but it's looking more like cheap plastic at this point. Is it different on AT&T maybe?

I dropped mine from chest height and nothing happened to it. That really sucks for you. How much was the replacement screen?

The replacement screen was $130 went with 2 day shipping (Digitizer/LCD Assembly). Just the digitizer was only $60 but it's a good thing I went with the whole assembly because when i was trying to pull the glass out of the housing some of the shards came off by themselves, and revealed that LG "fusing" the glass to the lcd is literally glue covering the entire LCD making it damn near impossible to just replace the digitizer and make it look nice.
Also a few warnings to those disassembling their phones:
1) The battery isnt solid, more like cased in an extreemly soft metal so it will dent if not carefully removed (it's glued into the housing)
2) The chrome edge dent's very easily, have a small ding where i got impatient, TAKE YOUR TIME!
3) When removing the back cover don't cross over the volume rocker, power button, or USB port with the spudger. for the top of the back removal gently push the back cover forward dont try to shove your spudger in their, it wont work lol.
I'm going to be doing a full disassembly guide that's a lot easier to follow than the "engrish" version korea put out for us english speaking techs when my new roll of 3m tape comes in. =P
This cracking is caused by a small piece of sticky under the back cover you can either remove the sticky or ad some more this would prevent the cracking...
I posted a service guide here on XDA search my name for it... It will show how you can remove the back cover... just when taking it off remember the back can crack easy and the plastic can ding or dent rather easy and make sure you don't mess up the power button or the volume buttons
