[GUIDE]WINDOWS 8 LIVE USB : install it on a USB KEY - UPDATE 11/01/13 - RTM TOO !!! - Windows 8 Development and Hacking

Hello to all ...
I have received many requests from some other forum users with whom I collaborate x and I am here today to explain how I solve a problem that does not yet seemed to have a solution ...
I WANTED TO INSTALL WINDOWS 8 ON A USB KEY AND ON THIS
THEN IT RUNS DIRECTLY !!!
I'm not talking about putting the ISO on a USB Key and then install it on your hard disk of a PC but installing it directly on it so it's ready to run on every PC on which we put the key.
NB I would like to remind everyone that the version of Windows 8 used from myself for these experiments is Windows Customer Preview 8 32 BIT, it is freely and can be found on Microsoft's site and downloading is free. This is not the ultimate version 'cause Win 8 is not out yet (due out in late 2012, perhaps) or a pirated copy. Therefore I don't intend to encourage or push someone to piracy. All of following is perfectly legal.
A few simple steps and an afternoon of testing. Here's how I did:
01) download the ISO of Windows 8 Customer Preview from Microsoft's Site (English)
02) note the relative activation KEY (always English)
03) unzip the ISO of windows with WinRAR to any folder on your PC
04) unzip the file /SOURCES/INSTALL.WIM with "UniExtract" (universal extractor) in any folder on your PC
05) have a partition of at least 12 GB free on your USB stick
06) format it, if u want, as NTFS format with Cluster Size = 1.024 bytes or 2.048 bytes
07) from the disk management of windows on that partition, run the "mark partition as active" so that the PC can then use it to boot
08) copy the entire contents of extracted INSTALL.WIM to that partition (except the trash folder, RECYCLE.BIN)
09) open the attachment that I put here in RAR, copy the 2 files on the USB KEY and from the DOS command line ( if not works, run DOS Shell as administrator ):
10) bcdboot.exe X:\windows /s X:
11) bootsect /nt60 X: /force
where X is the letter of the partition used in the USB stick. Reboot and ensure that the PC starts from USB stick. In figure 01 you can see my 8 partitions on the same USB drive where I have Windows 7 32 & 64 BIT, WINDOWS 8 32 & 64 BIT, LINUX Pinguy 32 & 64 BIT, Easeus Todo Backup Recovery with Linux shell.
NB The above guide works with the English version of Win 8 Customer Preview 32 BIT as well as the same 64 BIT only that the second requires a bit' more size (about 3 GB +). My guide is the minimum requirement under the which wraps everything but if u want it running more lean, fast and efficient, then we say that the ideal is 16 GB free for the 32 BIT and 20 GB for the 64 BIT.
The first start will make the whole configuration of the system, will ask for the key to activate the free copy of the system, your name, a password that you
can create, etc. From second boot, windows 8 will start in half a minute on a dual core processor with 2 GB of RAM. I remind you that booting from USB, will never be as fast as if it were installed on the hard disk, unless you have a USB 3.0 and never the same also in this case...
THIS IS A PREVIEW, THIS METHOD IS NOT YET FOUND IN THE WEB. I CREATED IT ONLY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON BEING ABLE TO DO IT WORKS. MY PROBLEM WAS THE COMMAND LINE FROM DOS BUT NOW IT'S PERFECT AND WORKS PERFECTLY ... SHARE THIS HOW TO IF YOU WANT, JUST PLEASE REMEMBER TO WRITE MY NAME ... PYCON IS ALWAYS QUALITY !!

UPDATE 11/01/2013 => WINDOWS 8 RTM 32 & 64 Bit
Hello everyone ... After a while 'on the run, I remembered having to try again with the release of Windows 8 RTM Build 9200, then finally ... 2 little hours for testing a program of which I already knew the existence ( not new, just some persons often combine this program with wrong DOS command or not right card format ) et voilà ! IN A FEW STEPS, WINDOWS 8 LIVE USB ... RTM VERSION AND PREVIEWS TOO ( I tried with my old Consumer Preview, I assume that it might work with the very old Developer one ). However, if the preview doesn't work, my previous method still works for sure with the previews...
Pre-requisites:
A) have the ISO Microsoft Windows 8 RTM ( remember men... the free trial is 90 days)
B) have a PRIMARY partition at least 12 GB free space on the USB drive formatted in NTFS with the choice between
- Cluster Size = 512 bytes
- Cluster Size = 1024 bytes
- Cluster Size = 2048 bytes
C) have the two little programs WINRAR (including trial version) & GIMAGEX (opensource)
Here's how:
01) open with WINRAR the ISO of Windows 8 RTM ( or the release u want to use )
02) extract the file /SOURCES/INSTALL.WIM to the hard disk ( where you want )
03) open with GIMAGEX ( Image Extractor Tool ) the file INSTALL.WIM... This's a small portable utility, download it, unzip it where you want and open the executable in 32-bit or 64-bit EXE depending on your system:
- go to 2nd tab "APPLY"
- in the 1st field "Source", click once on Browse and select your file INSTALL.WIM
- in the 2nd field "Destination", click once on Browse and select the root of your USB drive (eg X: )
- in the 3rd field "Image" you can check by clicking on Select that it's the NUMBER 1
- "Verify" not flagged
- "Check" not flagged
- click on APPLY and wait ... here it's stolen to me about 20 minutes ... depends on key and system ...
04) from disk management builted in windows, choose the partition of the USB key used and right click to "mark partition as active" so that the PC can then use it to boot
05) open a DOS command line with administrator privileges
06) go to the directory of the key X: \ Windows \ System32 where X: is the partition of the USB key
07) bcdboot.exe X:\windows /s X: /f ALL
FINISHED!
ENJOY IT !!! PYCON RULEZ !!!

wow, that's impressive. thanks for this guide, im gonna try it out very soon

No, because the proccesor in your prime has an ARM architecture so it wan't boot a 32 bit system. It also doesn't have BIOS to boot from USB.

how long did it take you to "unzip" the install.wim ?

Somebody have lenovo tablet try them but i dont knw about the chipset

It depends of performance of your PC.
INSTALL.WIM is 2,5 average size file, so on my I7 the uncompress
got me waiting for about 6 / 7 mins... So try, if u jave a dual core
it's possible u've to wait up to 12 / 15 mins to uncompress it...

If you format the USB where W8 is on, then its normally removed?

Yes, but whwn I had it installed on a second partiton of my HDD and then formatted it, I couldn't boot back to windows 7

No man, u can't format the usb key on which u've installed Win 8.
'cause for the system, it's the C: and so the system partition, u
can't format it, resize it, remove it from usb tray icon...

@pycon: I think he meant that he wanted to format it from Windows 7 (or whatever his other OS is), and I think it's safe to do that.
@k.janku1: That's because Windows 8's dual boot screen is shown AFTER Windows 8 actually boots, so before deleting Windows 8 you first have to remove it from the boot list in "msconfig" (just type that in the search), and if you already formatted your HDD partition where Windows 8 is installed, then your only solution is to repare your MBR using a Windows DVD or some other boot tool like SuperGRUB (it can restore Windows MBRs too, not just Linux!)

I can only test it on my own GT-I9300; please report back your success with the information needed in the table above.
If you have a custom kernel, you have to make sure there is one of the three possible lun files available (see Problems section).
Regarding US versions: Starting with 1.4beta, it also works with US versions (see here). This may not be the case for all variants, so please report back with the information needed in the compability table.
Problems? Not working?
Report the exact problem, model/ROM/kernel/etc., the exact error message and the results of the following commands (use Terminal Emulator or something similar):
Code:
mount
ls /sys/devices/platform/s3c-usbgadget/gadget/lun0/file
ls /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun_ex/file
ls /sys/devices/virtual/android_usb/android0/f_mass_storage/lun/file
mount | sed 's/ on / /g' | grep extSdCard | cut -f 1 -d ' '
Note: Only ONE of the three ls commands must be successful (file exists)
You may need to replace "extSdCard" in the last command with the mount point name of your external sd card (e.g. external_sd or sdcard1 for CM10)
If the last command does fail, there is probably something wrong with your BusyBox installation. You should reinstall it - I recommend this app.
On some Win7 PCs, these steps may be needed:
Now follow these steps:
1. On your Windows 7 computer you will see it will try to install “SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device” as one of the drivers and fail *this is normal*
2. Go into Device Manager on your computer, right click “SAMSUNG Mobile MTP Device” and select “Properties”
3. Click on the “Driver” tab and click the “Update Driver” button, a prompt will then come up
4. Select “Browse my computer for driver software”, then select “Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer” on the next screen
5. Select “USB Mass Storage Device” as the new driver from that list and finish up that install
6. At the end you will see something like this on your computer – Screenshot Here
7. Windows will install final drivers automatically and a new “Disk drive” will show up on your computer, this is your external SD card on your device
Keep in mind that it is not possible to get access to the internal storage as USB mass storage device.
Click to collapse
Get the "extSdCard is being accessed by [...]" message? Wait until the app accessing the sd card has finished, stop it yourself or reboot.
Changelog
Code:
1.8
- added support for third lun file, should work with GT-I9305 (Intl LTE version) now
1.7
- fixed recognition failure if "mount" output contained "on" as the second column (e.g. Siyah kernels)
1.6
- fixed code so that it (hopefully!) works with recent CM10 versions again
- made some error messages clearer
- drop of "beta" name doesn't actually mean much by the way, but I think it looks a bit cleaner this way and does not make a difference
1.5beta
- added support for CM10 sd card paths (/mnt/external_sd and /mnt/sdcard1)
1.4beta
- added alternative method for users without s3c-usbgadget (may work on US versions)
v1.3beta
- rewrote the whole logic
- now opens Play Store entry of BusyBox if it is not yet installed
- notifies user if device seems to lack s3c-usbgadget module
- notifies user which apps are accessing the extSdCard
- generally better and more precise error messages
v1.2beta2
- added info about busybox requirement (maybe this will be removed later)
- added link to donation app
v1.2beta
- Automatically tries to unmount extSdCard before starting UMS mode. This will fail if some app is accessing it, so just wait or cancel that app if you know it and try again - possibly several times. This prevents the potential data loss with previous versions.
- It now checks the location of the extSdCard device. This should help with compabilty, e.g. for US versions.
- Added some log output and toasts (2s delay)
- Added link to this thread and version number in app
- It's a beta so please beware, but I think the worst probable thing that can happen is that it does not work (e.g. it does not start UMS if it cannot unmount the extSdCard).
- Dammit, the whole day is already over
v1.1
- Added option for going back to MTP
v1.0
- Initial release

On of the drives is your external card. That's the only one that can be accessed. Theoretically it should be automatically mounted by windows, somehow this does not seem to work for you... I think you should not need additional drivers, but I'm also not sure what the root of the problem is.

[GUIDE]How to Enable .net Framework 3.5.1 Offline in Windows 8,8.1

Many of us are using Windows 8 Developer or Consumer Preview. While using Windows 8 Beta version, sometimes you will get the message to install .net framework, for running those applications which require .net Framework to operate.
But it becomes quite difficult for us to download and install Microsoft .net Framework online. There can be many reason for that.
Know here question arises that Windows 8 comes with pre-installed .net framework application, then why it is asking for re-installation.It is because Windows 8 beta Setup doesn't install the .net
Framework,we have to manually install it.
How to Install / Enable .net framework 3.5.1 in Offline mode
Go on "Search" Option of Windows 8 and type cmd

Now enter the Following command in "cmd"
Code:

Please note:- Letter "G" in above command is the drive letter in which your Windows 8 installation Disc has been inserted.
Just click Enter button after writing the commands.
Wait for a minute and your .net Framework will be installed.

[8.1] WinPE 64-bit en-US

Might be you need a "Windows 8.1 Rescue Disk 64bit" at some point. If you won't create such a WinPE by yourself, you might use the one I created by means of phantastic WinBuilder tool. Note, that this WinPE boots in legacy mode and only comes with legacy apps.

• Requirements:
1. At least 1 GB RAM; the WinPE completely is copied to RAM and runs from therein.
2. A storage device with at least 500 MB; the WinPE currently is ~300 MB of size.
3. A VESA-compatible display device. Note, that screen resolution will be set to 1024x768 and colordepth to 32-bit.
• Network:
Wireless networking is not supported in WinPE, this WinPE uses TCP/IP and/or NetBIOS over TCP/IP to provide network access and support for standard network drivers. Hence connect the PC to a router using an ethernet cable before booting.
• How To:
» You burn the .ISO on CD/DVD/BD (use 2x speed).
» You direct your Windows 8.1 x64 computer to boot from optical storage device.
» You power off the PC.
» You insert the CD/DVD/BD.
» You restart your Windows 8.1 x64 computer.
If WinPE has successfully booted, you right click anywhere in the desktop to get the WinPE's MENU shown.

For devices without an optical drive, it *should* be possible to format a USB stick, mark its partition as "Active", and then dump the contents of the disc image to the root of the flashdrive (note: not the image itself!)
Great work. Possible to add PowerShell?

Would be possible, YES, but I don't add it. Reason: MS PowerShell requires MS .NET Framework (~2GB) to be installed, too.
50+ downloads until this writing. No bug reports, wow. This encouraged me to spend further efforts in this project: result is version 2.
• Programs added:
TCC/LE, version 13.0.6.77
AOMEI Partition Assistant, version 5.5
Q-Dir, version 5.97 (March 24th 2014)
SumatraPDF, version 2.5.8665
SearchMyFiles, version 2.48
ESET SysInspector, version 1.2.402 !!! needs 38 MB RAM !!!
ODIN, released 2011-10-09
Calculator, version 2.6.0.0
7-Zip, released 2013-12-11
Agent Ransack, version 7.0.820.1
BOOTICE, version 1.3.21
TestDisk, version 6.14
CheckDisk, version 1.4
Could't add TrueCrypt, because no native 64-bit version of it exists.

Problem herewith is, that WinPE only detects the USB drive if you boot the computer with the drive connected. If you bootet WinPE from USB drive, then this USB drive isn't not useable for other purposes anylonger, means you can't use it for data transfer in either direction. If you decide to use another USB drive for data transfer then, if already running WinPE and you plug in such another USB drive, nothing happens. Hence also added:
Microsoft's DevCon utility
----------------------------------------------
• Shell modified:
Added "multiple-desktops" feature, you now have 3 desktops you can switch among
Reorganized the menu, perhaps a little bit less cluttered now
Added a desktop wallpaper, so one now recognizes when WinPE has successfully loaded
Download: See post #1.
Very good project I used de DVD with no problem for now.

Hi,
After W10 is installed in L530, how does it work? Smoothly? There are somes issues that we should to know? Where we can see a video?
Thanks in advance.

Hi
I can't post any external links or photos or videos etc. because I'm still junior member on this forum...
It works fine if you don't use a lot of applications at the same time.
That could be the only issue I found so far, because Lumia 530 has only 512 MB RAM. If you use it one app at the time, it works same as W8.1...
And you should limit background apps (in battery saver) to increase battery life (I think that's the problem with W10 on all phones)..
doesnt work in 635 AT&T GoPhone.
Thanks for the tutorial though

Before you start, you should find similar phone to yours (same cpu and gpu) among supported W10 phones and use its identifiers to apply them into your registry. I used identifiers of Lumia 535, because it has the same cpu and gpu as my L530...
Works fine on my lumia 530. Finally I got 10586.164 run on the phone.
The next updat to didn't work. Lumia 530 won't use sdcard. Any idea?
On internal drive only 1,3GB free. WIN10 tells me I need more
----
Finally it works - I just do HardReset once morer and same procedure. Thanks Dr_ausgemachten.
Asking about how does it work.

Hi LaCruz,
Please, could you give me your opinion as user of a L530 with W10? Is it worth upgrading the L530 to W10 considering that I have to pay $19 to register for Microsoft to unlock the L530.?
One of the reasons for bought it L530 was by the possibility of updating a W10. At the moment, my experience with W8.1 Update 2 is good. But, I always have the idea of upgrading to W10.
Thanks in advance.
Hi, cmolinap.
You dont have to pay anything. See tutorial (step 2) and you will unlock your phone for 2 developer applications. That's all you need!
dr_ausgemachte said:
Found this method on the internet a few days ago, since "vcReg and Extras&Info" method doesn't work any more. Tried and it works!!! I'm new on this forum, so i didn't know how to attach the necessary files at the bottom of the post, and I have inserted the photo with original links for download below the text.
1. Free up some space – The "100-year trick"
You will need a large MicroSD card – at least 4GB.
The updates downloaded alone require around 900MB of space. After it's finished, Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.164 takes 2.46GB on my Lumia 530. We're gonna need more space.
Hard reset your phone
When it comes back up, disable time synchronisation, and set the date to 100 years in the future (e.g. 01/01/2155).
Open the Settings App, and try to open all the various tabs. Many of them will tell you there's a problem, and allow you to uninstall it.
Uninstall any other apps from the All apps screen.
You should have around 1.4GB free space now.
2. Developer Unlock your Lumia 530
Install the Windows Phone 8.1 SDK
If you haven't already, you'll need to register as a developer.
Search for Windows Phone Developer Registration Tool 8.1, and follow the steps to Developer unlock your Lumia 530 (your screen must be unlocked during this procedure!! - set lock screen settings on 5 minutes or so).
Go to the app store, and install the Windows Insider and Preview for Developers app.
Open up Storage Sense, and move Preview for Developers to the SD card.
Make sure Windows Insider remains on your Phone storage; and the default App location is your Phone.
3. Interop Unlock your Lumia 530
Grab and deploy CustomWPSystem_0500. xap and WPSystem_Folder_Unlocker_Release_ARM. xap to your phone (using the Windows Phone Application Deployment 8.1 program from the SDK -> C:\Program Files (x86)\ Microsoft SDKs\ Windows Phone\ v8.1\ Tools\ AppDeploy\ AppDeploy. exe)
Copy CustomPFD_0003. xap to the SD Card
Open up WPSystem_Folder_Unlocker on your phone, and tap "Unlock WPSystem Folder (sdcard)". It should say "Success!"
Open up CustomWPSystem on your phone
Tap the red bar "SD Card permissions", then browse to your SD Card and tap Apply (the tick)
Scroll to the bottom, and tap "Select the XAP".
Pick the CustomPFD_0003. xap file you copied to the SD card.
Tap Apply Xap.
Browse to Preview for Developers in the All Apps list. The icon should have changed.
4. Change your Device Identifiers
Here's the real reason this works: We're going to pretend our humble Lumia 530 is actually a Lumia 535.
Open the Preview for Developers app
Browse to HKLM/SYSTEM/Platform/DeviceTargetingInfo
Change the following keys:
PhoneManufacturer: MicrosoftMDG
PhoneManufacturerModelName: RM-1089_1048
PhoneModelName: Lumia 535
PhoneMobileOperatorName: 000-IT
5. Force updates to download to the SD Card – the "1GB File trick"
Windows Update always prefers to download updates to the local phone storage. It's typically faster than the SD card, and a whole lot safer. But if there's insufficient space, it can download the update files to the SD card.
On your PC, open up a Command Prompt as Administrator(!)
Create a 1GB file (copy and paste following line in Command Prompt): fsutil file createnew C:\1gb.tmp 1000000000
Copy the file to your Phone storage.
Join the Insiders Program if you haven't already, and select Slow Ring or Release Preview.
Check for phone updates.
Soon after the updates begin downloading (say 5% to be sure), you must delete the 1GB temp file. While this file forced Windows Update to download to the SD card, we still need all that space we cleared earlier for the updates to actually install!
Allow your phone to reboot when prompted.
Installing process will be much slower, because installation files are downloaded on SDcard, which is generally slower than phone storage. With my Transcend 8GB SD it lasted for about 2 hours. If install progress hangs for >1 hour at the "Migrating your data" screen, it's safe to reboot and you've got 10586.xxx version now.
6. Hard reset your device
After Hard Reset, your phone will be lumia 530 again, but don't worry, the next update will come anyway!!
7. Upgrade your Lumia 530 to 10586.318
Once you've successfully got 10586.xxx installed on your Lumia 530, you can upgrade to 10586.318.
Delete all unnecessary data and apps from Phone storage
The old 1GB file trick again. Copy that 1GB file back to your phone storage.
In the Settings App, search for updates. They should again begin downloading to your SD card.
As before, delete the 1GB file after the updates begin downloading.

Hi,
I need your help. Please, could you guide me in the process?
Ok. My Nokia Lumia 530 is a Dual SIM version and I live in Nicaragua. So, I will need to change some info before, in order to upgrade to W10. The RM to be used should be RM-1090 (Lumia 535 Dual SIM), but the second number (RM-1090_xxxx) how selected it? The Phone Mobile Operator Name should be: 000-NI?
Thanks in advance.

hi
I couldn't find Nicaraguan carrier in lumia firmware software site http://www.lumiafirmware.com/ (that's where you search for identifiers). I found Italian identifiers (RM-1090_1046). Don't be confused about that. My original carrier is 000-RS (Serbia) and the phone is sim locked, but it worked with 000-IT (Italian). Anyway, your identifiers will return to original after the update and hard reset. As I could figure so far, the point is to trick the server to send you an update for existing phone. Regarding hardware, there are no differences between Lumias (e.g 535) all over the world.. I hope I helped you

You don't need to pay to register. Install the SDK and open the 'developer registration' program. Sign in with any microsoft account and it'll work.

Thanks for the guide, I've successfully updated to the 10586.318 build too.
Something to note is Developer Registration won't recognize your phone unless the phone is connected to the internet, and the date is correct. So if you changed the date to 100+ years, you might have to change it back to register.
Also, is it possible to get Fast ring working on this? It reboots when I pick fast ring and doesn't find any updates.

RetroArch UWP (ARM) Release - [N64, ScummVM...]

Hi,
I would like to share with you this release of RetroArch for ARM devices
Over 70 Core successfully compiled and tested on low end device,
Including N64 core with GPU render (Which is very rare)
Version: 1.15.5
Platforms:
Any Windows on ARM (with UWP Support)
Window 10 Mobile (More details? ask here)
Lowest Build: 15035+ (14393 with few cores)
This release contains the latest ANGLE library (by Google) that used to make OpenGL ES supported
Also I made many improvements for UWP functions,
and reverted back the incompatible functions for the lower builds.
Download: Get it from Here
WindowsRT?
Recently I discovered that RetroArch (UWP) required DirectX feature level 11.x
and this was probably cause crash on WinRT,
so please use release marked with `GL` if `D3D` crashed
Note 1: Some cores are using "Interpreter" which is very slow on low end devices, we need "dynamic re compiler" to these cores.
Help me add Dynarec for Flycast: GitHub Issue here
Spoiler: Installation
Download the app from the link above
Extract the files
Install all the files in 'Dependencies' folder
Install the certificate 'RetroArch_UWP_1.14.4.0_arm.cer' as Trusted People (Local Machine)

Pick your custom folder
I made some improvements on the picker process so,
RetroArch will remember the last picked folder so you can open it again
Recommended: I advice you to always select root folder for all games
--------------------------
Create Playlists:
Playlists is nice solution to organize your games
also you can access to any playlist later without browsing any folder
Steps:
1- Press on 'Playlists' icon near to home icon at the bottom2- Select 'Import Content'3- Select 'Manual Scan'4- Select 'Content Directory'--Click 'Open'--Select your target folder, like 'DS Games'--After confirm click on 'Scan This Directory'5- Scroll to 'Default Core' and select the core6- Scroll to the end then click 'Start Scan'7- Your 'Playlist' will be ready in 'Playlists' menu8- Repeat the process for each folder you have9- Done, you can access the games anytime
Spoiler: Touch GamePad
By default RetroArch will not place any touch pad on the screen
To activate the touch pad do the following:
Be sure you have 'Update Overlays' in 'Online Updater'
Go to 'Settings' at the bottom
Scroll to 'On-Screen Display' and press on it
Then select 'On-Screen Overlay'
Scroll to 'Overlay Preset'
A lot of presets will be available choose what you want

You can scale it down:
Go to 'Settings' at the bottom

After confirm the result go to 'Home'
Scroll to 'Configuration File'
Click on 'Save Current Configuration'
Done
Spoiler: Menu Style
The default menu called 'glui' (for Mobile), It's compatible with the mobile interface and very fast
but if you want to change the menu please note:
1- Menu 'ozone' is compatible with 'dxd11'--To Goback inside the menus press on the bottom bar2- Menu 'rgui' is compatible with any video driver and fast--To Goback inside the menus press on the top bar3- Menu 'xmb' is compatible with 'dxd11' and work fine with 'gl'but 'xmb' is not user friendly for mobile and need a controller to navigate better
How to change it?
Go to 'Settings' at the bottom
Select 'Drivers'
Scroll to 'Menu'
Choose the menu you want
before exit and apply change the compatible video driver
Quite RetroArch
Reopen, Done
Spoiler: Shaders
Shaders can add magical touch to the game
To enable shaders be sure you have 'Update GLSL/Slang Shaders' from 'Online Updater'
Steps:
Open the game
Press back button to In-Game menu
Scroll down to 'Shaders'
Enable 'Video Shaders'
Select 'Load'
Choose whatever you want
Done
Note 1: Some shaders could reduce the performance but most of them fast
Note 2: GLSL shaders will work only when the video driver set to GL
Spoiler: Free Content
Libretro is providing free content and some roms for testing
to get these files do the following:
Open 'Online Updater'
Select 'Content Downloader'
Download whatever you want
Downloaded rom will be exist at 'Load Content' -> 'Downloads'
Done
Spoiler: GLES Support
The fact about GLES 2.0, 3.0 support is: Microsoft using ANGLE library to translate the OpenGL ES call to DirectX
so at the end we are using DirectX.
That's led to few visual issues in the cores that support GLES and I'm working very hard to find solutions asap.
Spoiler: Non-UWP Support
Many of the compiled cores could work on the ARM release of RetroArch (NON-UWP)
Go to the download link above and download the cores separately from my Repo then add them to the Retoarch in 'cores' folder
Spoiler: App Permissions
For your privacy concerns here some explains for the app permissions:
-Internet access: used for download contents and online play-Act as server: for online/network play-File System (WOA only): Reducing the UWP limitations for files access (disabled by default)-Uses all system resources: for specific hardware usage (probable for some RetroArch advanced features)-codeGeneration: added specificly for PPSSPP core as it's uses VirtualProtectFromApp functionread more about VirtualProtectFromApp: Click Here
Spoiler: Known Issue
I guess there is known issue in libretro cores,
When the performance is low try ONE of the following:
Pause the game for seconds then resume
Rotate the screen
in some cases it will back to the normal speed
If you found any thing not clear, or you faced any issue while installing.. please let me know I will be happy to help.
Many thanks.

Hope it will work fine (don't forget to re-install the certificate)

- Start Search
- Or Windows+R then type eventvwr
Then:
- Select Windows Logs
- Select Applications
You should find error log related to RetroArch at the top..
Just do screenshot for the details so I can understand what exactly is getting failed.
Many thanks for your time.

Try this version, I re-targeted the package to 14393 and merged the cores from the latest release in case it worked, so you will not missed any core.
Download RetroArch 1.9.10 (14393)
Hope it will work fine (don't forget to re-install the certificate)

Hi,
I am trying this versione on the same machine and windows of Timdu66 but I can't install the certificate. It returns error if installing on local machine.
Error is on rundll32.exe - the parameter is incorrect
Is thera a way to work it out?

Not sure if the system is missing something, but try the following:
1- Open 'Start Menu'
2- Search for 'certmgr'
3- Select "Manage Computer Certificates"
4- Right click on "Trusted People"
5- Select "All Tasks"
6- Then choose "Import"
and follow the instructions.
(Another solution) Alternative method (if there is no other solution):
1- Turn on Developer mode (Settings->Privacy & Security->For developers)
2- Extract the package with '7z' or any archive app (to D:\RetroArch) as example
3- Register the package with 'powershell' (Win+R-> type 'powershell')
4- Run the following command:
Code:
Add-AppxPackage -Register D:\RetroArch\AppxManifest.xml
Hope it will work.
