I would, however every do it yourself job has only been USB charging unless you are running a custom kernel. The OEM dock does AC charging and invokes the dock mode which gives proper landscape with the OEM launcher.
USB charging is not enough to keep up in Navigation mode.

I found something interesting in the description that they provide (will be higlighted in bold)
The OEM Samsung Desktop Dock is designed to hold the *Samsung Galaxy Nexus while charging it. The dock comes with a standard micro USB input that can be used with either a main charger or USB cable and a 3.5mm audio line-out connection so that you can connect your device to an external speaker for high-quality audio reproduction. The dock has been designed to be used in both portrait and landscape orientations. This means that you can switch from answering emails to watching YouTube clips without having to unplug your device. The dock also has additional volume controls on the side so that you can adjust the volume regardless of the orient of your phone.
I wonder what these additional volume controls are. Because looking at previous pics of the dock I didn't see any actual buttons on it to control the volume. I hope they aren't referring to the volume on the phone or external speakers.
It is just a shame that I had already ordered the dock from expansys.ca and expecting it in a couple of days otherwise I would have went with this option.

hmm this has been out for a while in canada... almost a month, if not longer

Did you get the dock yet? I was told from Samsung Canada HQ that due to the lateness of the device the landscape pogo pin dock would not be released to Canada. That was yesterday

I ordered two of them on April 17th. They are being shipped (from Vancouver). I have the tracking number, and the expected delivery date is April 24th.

Cool I ordered one yesterday but no tracking as of yet

Yeah mine is on the way as well, should be able to pick it up from my local store on Monday!

Mine is showing shipped now. Should be at my store by Monday I hope. Excited to test it out.

Pogo
Are you sure it is coming? I ordered this from gocellular and the guy who runs the website there told me he was misinformed by the person he ordered it from... it was just one of the portrait docks. Not trying to burst anyone's bubbles but I would hate you guys get a landscape dock just because of some unscrupulous supplier.
Please post if you get it! I would be glad to order from whomever has these things.

Would this be compatible with the Verizon i515 Galaxy Nexus?

Based on the title and photo that looks like the Verizon version. So it does not have the gold pogo pins. It's a big piece of plastic with holes cut out so you can plug your individual cables into the phone (power/AUX).
If that's what you are looking for then go to town, otherwise you might be disappointed.

But how do you know? it says its compatible with all models and he doesnt give any hint that the pogo pins are missing...
The Verizon one is confirmed to not have the pogo pins. Also look at the pics on the ebay listing. On the base of the mount there should be two connectors one for power and one for the audio but there isn't anything there.

the base is different on that model. The one you want has a thinker base. It looks like its 3/4 in thick

No, its not available here yet and may never be.
I'm having a hard time believing that they would manufacture the phone with the contacts on the side and then not release any accessories that use them. Maybe Google will sell them.

My Nexus One accessories took weeks to months before they were available. I guess they want to give 3rd party manufacturers a chance to sell their knock offs.
The Ebay description does say, "The Vehicle Navigation Mount automatically puts your Galaxy Nexus handset in Vehicle Mode when docked." It might be legit.

Vehicle mode only means that it will activate the car dock screen, or at least that is what it has done on my other phones. This doesn't really mean that it will have the charging pins though. After reading the description of the dock on Ebay I came to the conclusion it is like the current Verizon model and does not charge or have audio hook ups. It says something to the effect of "has cut-outs in the plastic so you can still plug in your USB cable to charge the device". I have no doubt that it is legit, it's just not the legit charging/audio dock.
Legit or not legit, the GSM car dock with the 3-pin connector isn't available as of yet. The few websites that have offered them show a pre-order status so there is no way to check for sure.

I looked at that mount. Verizon had a universal on in the store that can work with my Defender case still on, so I went with that. It was only 19.99 plus I got 25% off.

Correct the Galaxy Nexus does not have car home. But interestingly enough my Nexus S got the Google update to ICS 4.0.3 and it does have car home on it.

Correct, I have a MM dock and when it's not plugged into my pico projector, it displays an option to run the "Widget clock". The included (cheaply made IMHO) IR remote can start/ stop media as well as a few other things. BTW, if you didn't know, HDMI is backwards compatible with DVI, so a passive, inline adapter can connect the MM dock to any modern display. There is an 3.5mm audio output from the MM dock as well.
Thank you! Just one more thing question.

More along the lines of this.
I like the cable ones as they don't put much stress on the sockets

Typically, the DVI display connections i use are vertical, so I don't have stress on mine. However, I see your point. Note that you'll need an adapter on the other side of your wire to connect to the phone, though.

Thank you - thank you - thank you!! I have just ordered one myself I don't know how I'm going to manage to wait the 3-5 days for delivery, even though I went without a dock for MONTHS already. Thanks again.
Be wary if you think you're going to get in on this deal - I received a Standard Dock instead of the Multimedia Dock. Needless to say it's being sent back as item not as described. Gonna hit up a store to grab this, since their warehouse had no idea what they were doing.
I had the same thing happen. Turns out they call the Standard Dock the Multimedia Dock, and the Multimedia Dock is known as the HD Multimedia Dock. If you noticed, this thread says the HD MM dock was $15, but the one you bought was only $10.
I buy three of each and I get my three standard docks. I call bell and they say they want to ship my hd docks this week.

Dock is in stock now. Just ordered mine. FWIW the shipping is free... Agree that $90 is steep but there are still no other POGO options for i515 that I've seen.
Now all I need is the POGO car dock...
Not that GSM version is any cheap also, but you pay for a really high quality made accessory, any original accessory cost more than aftermarket..

The pogo pins are for charging and audio out... no reason to suspect this would allow for data transfer without pins analogous to D+ and D-. Samsung even lists it as being merely a charger in the spec sheet.

DIY if you just want a charging dock without audio out, it's real easy to make, made my in 2-3 hours.
Of course if you DIY, you can't throw abuse it it, it's gona break faster than the original Samsung one, but it works
Any confirmation of it working with the OEM extended battery and back?
mine will show up in about 24 hours. I have the OEM 2100ma extended battery and will post results as soon as I know them. Based on posters who bought this dock back in Feb when it was first introduced, I expect it will fit w/o issues.

Car Mode enabled

So, I just purchased a Car Dock for my GN from expansys, arrived a few mins ago. Upon putting my phone on it, a notification saying "Car mode enabled" appears. There is no other changes though...
My question is, so what is car mode supposed to enable? So the Pogo Pins are just novelty?
GSM Galaxy Nexus Running AOKP build 37
When Car mode is enabled, the default Car Home app is activated, and audio is routed through the dock. Sounds like you don't have a "Car Home" app installed though at the moment.
Well, you're not supposed to be able to put a car home app in the Galaxy Nexus...
I was hoping that something would happen with the car dock... I guess this is a Google fail?

Can't you simply download any car home app that you choose from the play store? I haven't seen one that is built into the nexus.

Galaxy Nexus is supposed to be Google's flagship phone and the pogo pin was supposed to enable something in the phone, even on stock without the user needing to download anything extra like what the nexus one is able to do.
The Galaxy Nexus however apparently is not able to do anything different regardless of when you purchase a car dock with pogo pins or not. The user still have to get a "Car Home" app from the marketplace.
So, why did I buy an official car dock instead of just getting a better dock that cost cheaper and works with multiple devices?
Do you get what I mean?

Well sort of. But I don't understand why it is an issue to install Google's Car Home. The files I posted are ones I ripped from the Nexus One ROM, so you have the same functionality as the N1.
When you insert the GNex into the dock, it launched Car Home, exactly like the N1...

That's not exactly what's going on. As another poster noted, "Car Mode" on the phone does a couple of things when you insert the phone into the POGO dock.
- The phone does into landscape (no big deal I know)
- The phone activates a digital audio stream (spdif) through the pogo pins which the car dock changes into analog via a digital/analog board in the dock. This enables you to use the line out with a 3.5mm jack while only needing the 3 pogo pins connected
- The phone triggers whatever default "car dock app" you have installed. There isn't an OEM one at this time preinstalled, but from my experience those usually suck anyway compared to the market offerings. There are free car dock market apps out there, but CarHome Ultra is by far the best, in my opinion.
- The phone charges at AC speed via the included adapter. This is enough to not lose power even when the screen is on, running navigation, and using an audio player all at the same time.
The dock is far from a google fail, in my opinion.

This depends on the orientation that you have. If you have it portrait, it stays portrait. So basically this is not what the dock does.

Yeah, I realize... I was just kinda hoping a little that the information that I've heard so far was wrong, as in google hid something inside the phone's system that would activate something that would make the phone awesome...

You can do this using "Fast Charge" from AOKP ^^
One other thing the dock does is it forces the phone to "Keep Awake"
I guess I'm just pretty disappointed after all the hype that there might be a secret feature to it. The dock is pretty nice regardless.

I was disappointed too. I thought the dock would unlock a secret feature so it would make me breakfast while I drive to work and dinner on the way home.
At least it charges my phone at an AC rate without needing to connect a wire everytime I get in the car.
Well, that helps although I think Google should direct the user to get a car home app. It was preinstalled with Gingerbread, I think..
I was thinking that when you get the car dock a secret would show up or something. I installed the one from Nexus One.
Thanks for the clarification.

Nexus 7 Desktop Docks

So upon researching dock options, I see that the official dock is in the works, with a MSRP US of 50 dollars:

Has anyone come across any viable third party alternatives? I'm so ready to use this with my PS3 controller to get my gaming on.
Edit: Well, looks like I missed a digit on the date. Ignoring my ignorance, let's talk docks! I'm very interested in 3rd party options or the viability of the old one functioning with the 2013 refresh.

The date on that article is for July 31st, but back in 2012. It must be referring to the old Nexus 7.. the clue was the mention of a 3-pin connector on the side.
Right, so edited the OP to accommodate my terrible ability to read dates.
It looks like there are barely any options currently for a dock of sorts.

http://www.shopandroid.com/incipio-fixie-universal-tablet-stand/6A39A12239.htm
There are a couple of Qi charging stands as well:
http://www.androidpolice.com/tags/qi-charging-stand/
http://www.mobilefun.co.uk/qi-wireless-charging-pad-and-stand-p38173.htm
But again, this doesn't allow data transfer. It would be nice to place the N7 in a dock that is constantly connected to my desktop or by my bed for an alarm function.
The QI charging stand will take care of the second need, but data transfer would be nice as well. I'm very surprised we don't have docking pins.
I'm assuming being able to charge the device isn't a necessity, since you linked to the Incipio stand. I actually bought a black plastic stand at my local TJMaxx(or Ross, or Marshalls. One of those, lol) for only $4.99 or $5.99. I bought it for my Asus Infinity (10.1" tablet), and it works great in both landscape and portrait! Since getting my '13 N7 a few days ago, I've put it in the dock in both landscape and portrait as well. It also works great in either position! I've had my Note 2 in it, and even my Evo LTE before . Though, some of the display is blocked when either my Note 2 or Evo LTE is in this dock/stand. Just stating how versatile it is by being able to hold my 10.1" tablet, 7" tablet, 5.5" phone, and even 4.7" phone, all with perfect stability! If interested, you might want to check online for something similar. Knowing how well it works and how discreet it really is, I wish I would have bought at least 3 of these when the store had them in stock!
I'm gonna put some pics of the stand in the following post. Also pics of my Infinity an '13 N7 in both portrait and landscape position.

The Arkon Folding stand is nice. If you just want something small and effective. No charging, just a versatile cheap stand.

That looks decent. Does it have any weight in the base? The problem I have with plastic stands is they are too light and move easy.
Remember folks 3D Printing has arrived!

Microcenter has those for $6.99.
Another cheap option would be small photo easels. Foldable and prop your tablet up for useability anywhere in the house. They are often available at the dollar stores, so you really can't beat the price.
Microcenter has a nice-looking metal stand that raises the tablet if you want to use it as a secondary monitor.
None of these are docks, of course, but the design of the Cygnett stand would keep the charging cord out of the way.

I wonder if there will be an Official dock that lets you:
1. Charge
2. Expand TV HDMI out
3. USB port for Hard drive access
I really want the Nexus & FHD to be a Home entertainment player...may be a remote/ Or Kinect like gesture control app built in with the dock
Hope this comes true...it will be the best Combo for a home unit!

It is pretty lightweight! It's hollow inside though, so you could easily add some weight to it! It hasn't been an issue for me in the few months that I've had it. My Asus Infinity is a pretty big device, but this stand handles that tablet just fine. Here's a picture of the bottom of the stand showing that it's hollow, but still has plenty of unused space inside of it to add your own weights to it if you wanted.

I completely agree with you with an official Asus/N7 dock!! Charger is a must (obviously), an HDMI port would be great, at least 1 USB port, and a 3.5 auxiliary jack for audio!! If they would release an official dock with all of these features, then I would not think twice about buying it(assuming it's less than $100, should be around $50)!!!! Even without the HDMI port, as long as the other 3 are included then I would buy it! ChromeCast is going to be a pretty common household item for all Android users, especially given the low price point! That said, an HDMI port isn't a feature that I would choose over an auxiliary audio jack! Sure I could just stream music to my home theater system using ChromeCast, but I also have smaller speaker systems that I'd like to be able to use without connecting via bluetooth(Jawbone Big Jambox for example), and they won't be nearly as loud as my home theater for when I'm not trying to have everyone in the house listen to the same thing as I am!!
Also, my Asus Infinity has a mini HDMI port built in to the side of the tablet. I mainly use it for gaming anyway, but especially when I'm wanting to play on my flat screen TV!! Just so easy with the Sixaxis app, a PS3 controller, an having the HDMI port right on the tablet! I have an HDMI - mini HDMI cable hooked to my TV at all times. Basically, I said all of that just to say that this is probably the main reason that an HDMI port on the official dock isn't really that important to me, and why I'd prefer the 3.5mm jack over the HDMI port. That's IF I couldn't have both anyway!

just found this one. I haven't ordered yet, but I'm tempted. Looks like a legit charging dock for the 2013 N7.
thoughts?
Don't know if it's out yet but here's the official charging dock

Freaking pricey for a wireless charger though!! QI chargers can be found around $30 pretty easily now. The dock you linked should have at LEAST a 3.5mm port on the back if nothing else for them to have thy audacity to charge that much for it!!! Geez!!!

have you seen the Tylt Vu? thats $100.
But this really isnt that pricy imo...I'd much rather pay $50 to have an elegant dock / stand that will charge in portrait AND landscape than buy a $30 pad that you have to lay the tablet down on and thus lose the functionality of it. Plus it wont slide off on this.
Putting a nice dock with a qi charger warrants another $20 to me.

It looks like it uses the USB port for charging. My experience has not been good doing this.
