Exactly my plan I'm trying to get some practice fabricating an enclosure though... haven't done it before, so trying to see when I can get some practice in. In the mean time I'm just connecting it directly to a small amp board I've got so I'm using it as a radio... it looks techie ghetto as hell though.

Only thing with my plans is that I want to make it so I can remove the tablet without having to remove the dash. You seem to plan to just leave it in. Maybe when I get a nexus tablet (depending on the price) I'll decide to leave it in.

In the picture u don't have the acer ring, it can be verry useful in your case if you wan't to adjust the volume in a nice way. looks verry good in a car interface to

I think volume control from the market would work out better though, but that's just me cause I plan on rocking CM9. If I would keep it stock though, I would have to agree that the acer ring would be cool.

Great minds think alike. I've just bought an a100 for the exact same purpose. I'm stuck on the problem of phone call integration. Since I cannot pair my tablet to my phone as a handsfree device, there is no way to interrupt my music with an incoming call or take the call over the car speakers and microphone.
--edit--
Official ICS for the a100 drops on April 27!

What a coinkidoink... I was just looking at this
It covers something regarding the headset profile on ubuntu machines. Personally I have no coding skills, but a little light reading never killed anyone.

wandered on to this thread, i have had my acer a100 installed in my dash for about 2 months now
(new registration to this site it wont allow me to link pictures or my build thread sorry)
I dont have a way to power on the tablet without taking the fascia off it rarely completely dies over night though. I have it set so that screen remains on when powered from stock settings and the car adapter is powered from the accessories position of the key switch sleep set to 15 seconds for when key is turned off. using car mode keeps the screen full illumination while in use.
originally I had used automateit app to do all this but then learned I didn't need it and have since used the above scenario.
Since going to Android for a head unit I can never go back to a "standard" car stereo

hey guys i jut wanted to share my desk cradle i made. for only taking 20 minutes to make (17 minutes looking for that damn piece i just saw) it turned out pretty good.
P.S. i have the red mesh case and it fits perfectly and looks awesome!
Does it go into desk home automatically?

No it doesn't. There are no options available for the app to even allow this. Perhaps there is an app out there that allows you to open up a certain app when it's plugged in, just like how there is one to turn off wifi and such.

The best desk clock/alarm app I have found is Kaloer Clock: http://www.kaloer.com/kaloer-clock
Not only it looks better (IMO) than the Samsung desk app, but it is simpler and it can come on automatically when connected to power. Moreover, you can set it so it comes on automatically when powered only during certain hours.
And it's free
good find, I'm gonna try this bad boy out.
there are two big problems with this docking station....
number one-- those are erector set pieces... way better than legos...
and where is the A/V cables that plug into your tv? (step your game up)

Honestly I have no serious issues with this phone. The very little I have is checkerboarding in the browser (although the browser is fast and smooth as hell), home button seems to be the only button on the phone that lags (this is definitely a software issue) and screen resolution isn't as sharp as I am used to coming from the Sensation.
The pros on the GS2 definitely outweigh the cons so I'm happy with my purchase. Coming from the Sensation I was faced with wifi/data signal issues, overheating, lag (mainly on stock software), and a few random reboots and so far I have neither issues with the GS2. I recommend this phone to all!

Those are my only issues too. I can't really say they are issues because the browser checkerboarding was known before purchasing. They all do it. The home button taking a little bit to react has to be from the double tap on the home button option. This can be fixed and i'm hoping it will be on an update.

The only con I am experiencing is I seem to have trouble charging this thing with anything other than the included AC adapter. I cannot charge this phone while it is connected to a computer with the screen on and streaming music.
I think the radio in this phone is a bit weak as well, I have trouble getting reliable service while inside large buildings.
Otherwise it is an excellent phone. My 4g speeds are 14900 Mbps, I've had a 3700 Quadrant, and battery life is exceptional. I went to sleep at 0300 with a charge of 80 and woke up at 1000 with a charge of 71. Compared to MotoBlur, Touchwiz seems to be a lot easier on the battery while idle.

Definitely agree with it. I came from the Sensation and it would overheat. This phone barely gets hot even while charging! Maybe that's why Samsung phones charge so slow. It pushes out less power and since it pushes out less power the phone will most likely not overheat do to this.

The "brushed metal" screen thing has been only problem I've had. I exchanged it for one that looks pretty normal & I'm honestly not having any other problems. This phone is unbelievable & everything I've ever wanted in a phone. Great signal(I get signal at my work now, which I didn't before), great sound, great battery life, great colors, doesn't overheat, and the bluetooth range is excellent. I can literally walk across my house without it disconnecting, which is a breath of fresh air coming from a Sensation that I couldn't get more than 5 feet from :3
Agree. Hardware wise there isn't much if at all that needs to be fixed. Everything is nice and solid...great finish.
It's blazing fast..doesn't overheat and does everything well. Reminds me a lot of a Mac...It turns on, turns off and does what it's suppose to well. Reliable.
The phones amazing and I recommend it to EVERYONE.

I exchanged mine yesterday because it had the textured screen flaw. It was made on 9/27, got a new one made on 9/28. Looking great now, still messing around with it, a functional GPS is my biggest worry. I'll be testing that today when on the road.
Only down side I see is the occasional lag with TouchWiz. Coming in and out of applications, you notice a few slow spots here and there. Nothing I really care about. Coming from the G2X, this phone is a dream.
my phone works great the only issue i have is the phone acts strange when i try to use it and its charging...weird

Try a different charger. I've had this problem on several phones, it has to do with the charger outputting the wrong voltage or something. My phone does this too with the old Sensation charger that I use at work but it doesn't do it with my home charger.

Try a different one anyway, I've had included chargers cause this problem with the phones they came with.
---------------------------------------
One more slight problem that I've noticed- occasionally Doggcatcher & certain music players will give me errors about not being able to access the sd card. Its like it unmounts itself randomly or something. PlayerPro is the only one so far that hasn't done this.

New Bluetooth Headset

Hello, I have the Samsung Galaxy SII and I own already two BT headsets:
- Plantronics Discovery 640
- Nokia BH-609
The problem with plantronics is the blue light that flashes. Especially at night if I am watching a movie with low light, it is so bothering that I have to turn it off. Also it is old tech.
The Nokia BH-609 has great sound quality but a big problem for me: if I put it together with my phone one the same pocket there are 90% chances that the multifunction button gets double clicked and the phone redials the last called number (usually wife ) I installed third party apps in the Galaxy SII but couldn't reassign double click function.
Another problem with BH-609 is that if I will separate the phone for some minutes then to save battery it turns off and then I have to flash it on again to use it.
So now I am on the market for a new BT. Money is not an issue. My requirements are:
- difficult to double click (like plantronics or jabra)
- not bothering flashing blue light or at least a function to turn it off (like nokia BH-609)
I will use mainly for calls but I want to listen to low level music when I walk my dog.
Since money is not an issue I was thinking Jawbone ERA Motion. Do you think it meets my requirements?
Also does the plantronics Voyager Pro+ have a function to turn off the blue flashing? Or at least is it less bothering than Discovery 640?
Thanks
Well nevermind I just ordered the Jawbone ERA Bluetooth Headset (Midnight)
Hope I won't regret it.
I got it yesterday. Very cool looking headset. There is a free app that shows the battery level in the phone. Use the same charger as the phone (SGS2) I also got it updated easily through the jawbone website.
So far so good - think it worths the money.

i bought the Motorola Finity.. it is and isn't worth the money.. sound canceling is amazing, but it won't notify me of my notifications if my phone is silent... defeating some of the purpose of needing it..
sadly, this was the only blue tooth that i found that actually fit in my ear... all the circle buds were to big.. so... it is what it is..

Thanks for your input. Actually problems started yesterday evening. The phone shows that the ERA is connected but in some calls I hear nothing, completely no sound, even though it seems connected and the SGS2 shows that the headset handles the call.
Is it common problem?

Hi, what do you mean new rom? For your info I updated yesterday through maker's site and I have the new firmware. The problem is this:
1 out of 5 calls (approx) I hear nothing, although the Galaxy S2 shows the the call is being handled by the headset. So sometimes for testing I call a phone of a friend in the same place with me, and although I hear the ring on the other phone, I hear nothing from the headset, that somehow still controls the call, because if I double tap it the call ends.
I called the online shop that I bought it and await for their reply.

Oh I see, no my phone is not flashed or rooted.
Does my BT problem sound to you like a faulty headset or a common jawbone problem?
I think a bad headset. Oh, and sometimes for whatever reason, bt doesn't work with all phones, but a new model should have no problem. I'd call jabra support and find out.

I have a cheap old Plantronics 220. The volume level sucks and the earloop is just painful.
After playing with my friends Jawbone, I'm thinking about going that route. Unless you guys have some other suggestions about 'loopless' headsets.
Plus you can pick up the Jawbones new on Amazon now for around 40 bucks if you look around. Win.
i don't know. i returned mine back and waiting for the new one.
as a design and fit to the ear without the loop it was excellent. it had also the clearest sound that i heard from BT headset.
Cons on using on android:
- you have to use 3rd party app, otherwise there is no sign of connection with the phone (unlike most other headsets that show a headphone display on the top of the android)
- if you set the headset as multimedia also (not only to work during call) and have set the android to notifications sounds, these sounds will go to the headset and will drain the phone's battery pretty fast.
These are my conclusions from only two days of usage.
I use this. http://www.motorola.com/Consumers/U...ices/Bluetooth-Headsets/MOTOROLA-FINITI-US-EN
No need for 3rd party app, at least on inspire. Fits amazing with out ear loop, but I use it for the just in case. Would freak if it fell and busted it I lost it.
It fits inside your ear, not just sitting there. It has stealth technology, which says blocks wind to 40 MPH. But I know that I can be on a phone call and vacuum and no one knows I'm vacuuming. Lol.
Here's the thing I don't like. If my phone is silent, so is my bt on notification. And if i get a phone call, I don't get the ringtone all the time, but itbalways says, who is calling me.

I've been using a Platronics Discovery 655 for about 7 years now and so far it's been the best one I've owned. I wished they still made them.

SONY's Smart watch review with Xperia Ion.

so i decided y not buy the smart watch since i already have the headset pro to see how this comes in handy.
So first of the smart watch and head set pro do the same sh*t, only difference besides there looks is the watch has more apps.
Now even thou they do mostly the same thing. The watch does work good in most part's. Easily with phone outta sight ,you can check your message ,fb,tw,Google ect and even check weather and answer calls. Control music and volume. I find all of this to work out pretty well when all 3 devices are snyc, phone, watch, headset.
The bad and good.
The watch when not in use goes into sleep mode ,so in order to see the time you gotta double tab screen. But you can switch options to different watch looks to keep the screen on according to movement . Thats kool and all but can kill battery life quick. I have no problem tapping lol.
one Down Fall i notice .
Even thou i can read txt message, set up a reply option or call, i wish i can actually type and reply from the damn watch itself
Good example, Google maps for the watch is one of the best application on here, keyboard pops up, easy to use. Type in any location from the watch easy have a gps on my hand only if it talked. So they could have easily done this for texting.
Using all 3 device in public like on bus or at work, works out very well for me. Only time you gotta pull ur phone is when its time to reply to a text and its so anyyoing knowing this watch can do so much more.
Well am not done with this review ill be back with more so i hope this helps out anyone even if your not interested. It's always good to have information Laying around in case lol.
IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS, LET ME KNOW.

Ditto. Not because of quality, but function versus dollars. However I know there's 3rd party mods/apps for the watch, I'd like to hear more on those in execution.
Maybe Spectre can chime in too with his review.

I really like the smart watch. I've used it numerous times to change ring volume to vibrate or silent, view text and emails without pulling my phone out. Its nice to be able to see whether an email it txt is important and needs a reply right away or not without getting your phone out.
Honestly you don't really think you would use it that much until you actually have it. My biggest complaint is that the watch screen isn't bright enough when in direct sunlight.
The google maps app is awesome. I haven't used a lot of the other third party apps.
I don't have a problem with how the phone functions as far as having to double tap the screen or push the side button to turn the screen on. Swiping is easy. The apps could use some more function like replies and stuff but honestly that's not really the idea behind it. Its quick access to view emails, txt, Facebook, twitter and other things without having to use the phone in hand and it does that real well.

Read a lot of reviews online about this and decided NOT to buy it. Horrible screen, clumsy to use, etc.

I have one, and I find it to be very useful. My watch was a present. I thought it was going to be a useless gimmick, but now I can barely live without it.
On the way to work (on the bus), I usually have music playing. I can leave my phone in my pocket, and switch tracks easily. At home I often connect my phone to a dock for playing music. Again, I use my watch as a remote.
I prefer to have my phone on silent/vibrate, but I have missed calls because I do not always notice the vibration. With my watch, the watch vibrates on a call! I never miss calls now.
Having email alerts and SMS alerts is pretty handy. I have wired up my home alarm system to my home network - it sends emails when my alarm goes off. These come straight through to my watch now.
The screen is very good indoors. Outside, it is pretty hard to read in direct sunlight, and not great (but usable) in shade.
The UI is pretty poorly thought out. A back button would make life much easier. To go "back" on the watch, you need to do a pinch gesture. This is pretty hard on a tiny screen. A hardware back button could easily be located on the left side of the watch.
One puzzling thing is that the API does not allow 3rd party developers to add new watch faces. I would have thought this would be a big selling point. Writing a watch face as a complete 3rd party app does not work as well, as it tends to chew more battery and doesn't integrate with the other apps properly.
The connection to the charger is stupid, whoever thought of it should be ashamed. It is very finicky. I've found the best way to deal with it, is to wrap a rubber band around the watch and cable - otherwise it may stop charging (it sucks to have it go flat 30 minutes after getting to work).
The bluetooth connection uses v2, not v3 - so it uses more battery than it needs to. Having the watch at a distance from the phone will cause it to go through batteries a lot faster.
The watch itself is relatively tough, but the clip is not. I actually broke one of the little clips that hold the watch to the watch strap. Luckily for me, the guys at Sony Central in Brisbane had a watch that had a broken screen - so they helped me to transfer the clip from that watch onto mine (the alternative was to wait for 4 weeks for a warranty repair).
On the whole, I like the watch! It's not perfect, but it is very usable.
The good
Music control
Alerts
Vibrate on call
The bad
Clip is fragile
Charging connection sucks
Cannot add 3rd party watch faces
Screen sucks in sunlight

I found the new faces ok for a few minutes, but I keep going back to the large digital watch face. It is by far the most readable. This watch really needs more digital faces!
Could some of you guys suggest which one to buy.?
I saw bunch of models and I don't know which one to buy...
Tnx

There is only one model of Smart Watch. Just buy one from Sony or eBay or Amazon or on polish site Allegro.pl

I dont know about one with a speaker but I picked up one from Amazon about 6 moths ago or so that has 2 slots. In the front your EVO sits on USB and is a charge/mass storage slot. In the back is a slot for a second battery that has its own dedicated USB port to charge it. It was somewhere between $10-$25 I think. Maybe I can find it in my order history and link it for you if you like.
Found it and Amazon still sells it for $19. I like it. It does NOT fit with an extended battery out of the box, but I modified mine to work with it. I use it almost every day. I keep it next to my PC on my desk. Very handy.
