Light leak - HTC One V

Wow :[
I had a unit which had LED light leaks from below the capacitive buttons and so I went and got myself a newer unit in exchange. Now guess what? There's light coming out of the micro USB port!!! I can literally see from where the light is leaking and its pretty intense as well. Plus now I have light leaking from my multitask button..
Guys, before buying, check your unit before you bring it home. It'll be worth it cuz then you won't have to be running around like I may in a day or two!

Wait what?
so you are telling me i can get a new one because of this?
My model has also some light issues.
if the screen is dark , i see the light on the bottom of the display and also coming out of the micro USB port should i send it back to amazon and tell them to give me a new one? or what should i say?
greetings
sauce

Yes u can get a new uniy, I had 2 exchanged
If it doesn't make a difference to u then let it br, doesn't really matter. Jus make sure the display is bug-free.

That's why I refuse to buy another HTC phone, quality is ****.
Same as my EVO 4G

What's the big deal?

I don't see why that should be a big problem as long as it does not interfere your day to day usage.

I got my unit replaced because of light leaks and yellow spot in the bottom right corner and the 2-nd phone has worse light leaks than the first.
Of course is a problem , you're paying your hard earn money for phone without defects and I can't believe that HTC are sending their phones to the stores without any checks for problems mentioned.

you don't see it as a big problem?
look at my pictures! you'll see how the light is reflected straight into the display. so on black screens it is a very nasty bug.

I pretty much agree, when we go out to buy a phone, I'd like it to be nearly perfect. Cmon, I mean as a buyer it's the least I can expect. And if it's not perfect, I'd never want it to have light leaks at least

I bought a One V and it had light leaks aswell, on the screen edges near the Back and Multitask buttons, as well as in the USB port.
Is this simply a problem that all One V's have? I have sent the unit back, but I am in doubt of replacing it with a new one, because I worry that it will simply also have light leaks.
Is there anyone with a One V with no light leaks at all? Please reply if so (and by that I mean having it tested in a totally dark room, which is when the leaks become best visible)
Thanks,
pheroo

I went to 3 service centres, all had nultiple units sent in for replacement and htc themselves told me it was an issue and they were working on solving it in their next production lines.
I also had 2 aets replaced! Maybe you can give it a try? Just make sure that you check at the place itself if it's defect free or not..

I see. Well, I orderdered mine from a webshop on a contract, so I can't check easily for light leakage. I have to recieve the device by mail, check it myself, and send it back for a new one if it has leaks.
If the whole first production line is affected then it's a bit risky for me to get a replacement shipped to me, because chances are it will have leaks as well. So I can wait for the new production line - but I have no idea when those will be shipped to my webshop (but I can try to ask them).
Or I can simply choose another device. The Samsung Ace 2 is nearing release, and is about the same price. It has a dual-core processor aswell (albeit 800mhz). But it runs Gingerbread, and although it'll get updated to ICS, it's uncertain when - and I'm not sure if I really like touchwiz.
The Xperia Sola is another alternative, with 1ghz dual-core, but it has a ****ty battery and I'm not sure about the build quality of the device. Although I do really love TimeScape, and it'll get ICS soon.
Bleh, choices! I'd love to simply get the One V if it didn't have any light leaks guaranteed, I really like the materials and shape of the device, and sense 4 lite is great on ICS - even if it's just a single core.

Yeah I'm fairly impressed with the One V and it's surely the best in its class out there!
Well, looking at your situation, if you don't think that leaks would make a difference to you, then yeah might as well stick to the V. I mean, it's the least you can do if you wanna own it right now ageing as you have not many options under your belt. Regardless, Italy and great phone, I'd use it any day!

I had the One X with the exact same problem. I.swapped it out for another, and that too had lightbleed. I don't think swapping it out will make a difference. It appears to be a design flaw. I decided to go back to the Note.

No Light Leaks or Yellow Spots!
Even my One V doesnot have these problems.
What i would suggest is when you buy the phone, the manufacturing month should be post May. If you planning to buy a One V, and you see the manufacturing date as April 2012, give it a miss! HTC, I think, have solved the issue since then.

I hope you guys enjoy the One X

I was gonna buy it today but decided on a nexus for now and will get the S3 when it comes out. Don't mean to troll or anything. I know this phone is gonna be great down the line with dev supporting it, unfortunately for me all the issues reported turned me off about the phone. BUT it will undoubtedly be a beast in the near future. Enjoy your phone guys!

That's true that phone usually ship with some issues but they were so many bothering me with the one x. But that will all be fixed very soon hopefully HTC will take care of it, then the devs. As for the s3, it's not out or announced yet so let's see what happens.
Cheers. Good luck with the SIII. My first contract should be running out about the time thats released so I'm gonna grab one too!
How much cheaper did the Nexus work out at compared to getting a One X? I wouldnt have thought there was much difference in price? I know here in the UK the SII handset only, is only about £25 cheaper than the One X

Well I got the white version which was just a little more expensive than the black version ( I went for the white one because that's the color I would have chose for the one x). I got it for 500 USD even plus a TPU case that comes with a screen protector and an extra screen protector. All together plus one day shipping was 550 USD. I'm very happy.
personally my desire HD dint have any hardware issues, whatever isssues were there, were due to software bugs, However my SGSII had hardware issues and I went through two replacements before I got a somewhat acceptable phone.
The point is all the issues that you have been hearing about was also there for other flagship phones. 90% of users dont notice issues, only the fussy ones do.
For eg:
Display issues:
SGSII had yellow tinge, dark circle, screen burn and color banding.
IP4 had yellow spot
Network issues:
IP4 death grip
SGSII ****ty wifi, GPS
Heat issues:
SGSII had a lot of overheating issues due to the display as well as motherboard.
Personally all my S2s had reached 60C battery temps at some point or the other playing riptide
In a nutshell, although there may be some genuine initial teething issues with the ONE X, very few and hardly any are major. Its only that since its such an anticipated phone, things are being blown out of proportion. Personally I dont find the ONE X any hotter than the SGSII.

Same boat as you man. I'm not getting a nexus or one x, but holding off for the S3. Samsung has beautiful hardware, and the development of the S2 was amazing. I've ALWAYS bought HTC, but its time for a change, HTC has gone downhill. Your OP was in no way offensive though. I however in the last year have had an iPhone 4, sgs2, iPhone 4s, HTC sensation, HTC sensation xe, galaxy note and now HTC one x and I can assure you this one x is NOT hardware gone downhill! Is is easily the most elegant, well built device with the best screen by far out of all of the above. (yes, I am an addict and proud of it) which reminds me anyone wanna buy a sensation or a note? Could someone please describe what the screen flicker means?
I don't have any of the hardware issues but I do have one problem. On very low brightness when I scroll in apps (like when reading an article in pulse) i get a very faint change in the brightness of the screen. It's like it goes a litter dimmer and then gets bright again. Happens everytime I scroll at low brightness. Is this the screen flicker people talk about?
I also get a few jagged lines on the screen, but that happens *VERY* rarely. I don't even know a way of reproducing them.
Would you say I have a faulty set? Or is mine fine and these issues should be fixed by an update. I'm still on 1.26. 1.28 hasn't yet rolled out in India.

our screen flicker is really when the backlight is flashing very fast, mostly in grey areas of the screen. best you see it when viewing the standard picture in the "camera shots" folder, the one with the snowplains and the sun.
my screen flickers like crazy there around the sun.
if you have it, you will notice it there

the only thing wich fails is the screen, wich will flicker after some use. this will somehow get fix'd, doesn't matter if it's software sided or hardware
if it's software sided we will get a fix, else we can all exchange our device for a non flickering one..
but the gsensor? no problems here..

I haven't heard one person complain about the G sensor and the phone is hardly a month old for you to be talking about "within a few weeks"
Go back to Youtube and troll over there.

So I'm on my 6th handset, and no flickering at last.
However this one has a dead pixel (again) and the front speaker holes where the led is are mis aligned, wonky basically and tbh I think it looks tacky like a cheap knock off
I'm torn between doa'ing this and going onto the 7th handset or just living with the two issues

Those issues would bug me more tbh than the screen flicker which I currently experience but holding hope that 1.30 will resolve it. Try again and hope that the next handset is the holy grail.
Return it again until you get a good one mate. At the end of the day you are on a phone that you will be using at least a minimum for a year..so i say take it back

Personally I'd just return, the One X is an Amazing Handset, and you shouldn't have to live with a defective unit, i'm not sure why you're so unlucky to get 6 of them, but better to persist than give up and then not be able to return later.

I often cant help to think that people only find (some of the minor) issues with handsets once they have been on the forums and then go to look for them.
I wonder if I passed what i think to be a defect free handset to someone that has had more than 6 or 7 replacements that they would find defect that I dont see?
Just a thought….
Steve
No offence, but, return it and move on to a different handset... It is insane for anyone to buy/return/exchange 6-7 times for a product. Clearly the product doesn't work for you. If I have to exchange a product more than once, I'm done with that product..

That's the thing, I could, but to me there just isn't any competition to it, 100% working it wipes the floor with anything else (i hate Samsung's touchwiz and everything else they do with it like the stock browser has no desktop mode at least on sgs2, desktop mode is necessary for me) if there was a nexus with the same specs I wouldnt mind that, but then again I'm hooked on sense there's so many little features that I take for granted now and when I use another phone, it just doesn't feel right. And that's why I have to keep swapping, once I find the perfect one (which should have been the first one dammit) I will be a happy bunny
Edit: damn sense, any other product would have absolute maximum 2 tries then it would be off to another brand

I've almost driven myself mad trying to decide whether to return my HOX due to the flicker at low brightness. The problem is that for me it's a bit of a PITA to find the time to return to the shop, and the other thing is that both of the HOXs that colleagues of mine own, which came from different shops entirely, also exhibit exactly the same issue. So considering my phone is otherwise a very good example without any of the other issues I've heard about, I've decided to stick with it and see what the 1.30 update does.
This issue definitely isn't bothering me just because it's mentioned on this forum; I discovered the discussions on here after noticing the flicker myself.
I'd return it and get a replacement.

Is anyone else disappointed with the HOX?

Not from a performance stand point but the build quality/defects. I didn't really notice until people pointed it out but the screen flexing, dust under the screen and my white one gets marks on it so easy. I mean there are multiple threads about the defects and other issues. I payed around $760 for this phone and the quality isn't up to par? I love the phone and I'm keeping it I just expected better from HTC. The Nexus One was simply perfect no defects and things for me, I thought it would have been the same for this phone. Gah oh well. Still love it though.
I understand how you feel. This is my 5th HOX and it still has minor issues like screen gap and dust between it, but I'm living with it coz I'm tired of replacing my phone every week.
First one died, next one had dead pixels, third one had scratches out of the box, fourth had LED bleeding (hole between LCD and body on top). Will never buy HTC ever in my life again, considering I paid 590euros for this disappointment.

Its a great phone.
But I have never had something that has given me so much grief when straight out of the box, it completely ruins the excitement. Disappointed that HTC let this out with so many big issues, however after a week and x3 updates the major issues have been ironed out.
Have none of those issues on mine. Out of curiosity... Are any of your units from a carrier?

I have no issues. If you need faultless hox get one from india!
Seems fine. It's a phone, it lives in my pocket, it gets dusty and scratched in the end, then I replace it in a couple of years. I guess if I elevated my expectations I might be able to muster some disappointment (but only in myself).
First one the screen wasn't perfectly stcick to the body, seconed one led light bleed thru the space betweent the dispaly and the body but I can live with that

Mine is also perfect
Vip branded croatia
Sadly yes, doesnt seem any faster than my desire HD (i know it is) and the main deal breaker for me is the battery life.1% drain a minute, makes me scared to use it in case the battery dies. Everything else however was perfect. No other issues.
If the battery life gets better with updates/custom Roms I'll keep it, if not I'm selling it probably

mine is in repairs. 3rd handset. if they come back and tell me they are going to give me a replacement as it can not be fixed i will insist on an s3 as i had enough with the crappy HTC phones and nothing but troubles since i took this contract with the phone. Phone has potential but blah this situation over the last month has put me off it...
so if all things go well the phone will be long gone in a weeks time

what is weird..that HTC failed to deliver with this phone and all you can read is nothing but trouble? that alone has put me off them mate and i am begging my phone does not get fixed and i can swap it for a different handset
I only have a yellow spot and was going to swap it because of this however after reading all the posts in this thread I'm having second thoughts as I might get one with other/more issues....

Had One X more than couple of weeks? No problems?

Hi,
I know there are number of threads about the problems of HTC One X and sorry for creating another one.
But I want to know about people who has been using it for more than couple of weeks (because this problem comes after using it for a while) and have not had the wifi issue.
So if you have been using it for more than couple of weeks, could you please share your wifi experience and also the phone version number, which is the first five digits of the serial number (HTxx, SHxx), so we can see if this is a problem only found in earlier stock and whether HTC has fixed the problem
Update: I added a poll. If you can vote your choice we can all see how much of the HOX is actually giving problems.
Thank you.
Had my first one for 3 weeks before a yellow spot appeared and I had to return it. Wifi and everything else was fine. HT24.

I have had my HOX since release, serial number: HT23X. The only issue I can think of is when coming back to a wifi area I occasionally have to unlock the phone before it connects.
one more thread?
my third SH248 is built like a rock, still as pristine as it was on day one, over a month running now and abusing the F&[email protected] out of it
@h00py no HOX will develop yellow spots unless the screen has a defect in lamination

I meant apart from the screen having a yellow spot everything else was fine. The screen definitely had a lamination problem defect thing.
Oh and my SH24 feels like a much better build. My only problem is that it has one of the white screens

I used to prefer it but since I read your post about yellow screens having better colour gradients I don't know anymore lol
Still, its better than having a yellow blob on my screen right?

both are great, i got used to loving the white now, especially on auto brightness all the time
but yes if i had to choose yellow it is but its not a in anyway a deal breaker
Thank you guys.
Since we are hearing mostly about the defected HTC One X, it would be good to know about people who has not had any problems too.
I'm still on my 1st phone had it since launch

I have the HT23 (since the release), and almost no problems so far.
I only have a rare issue of the phone booting when it's turned off while charging.
had my HOX since launch day. no problems!!
dropped it after two weeks and smashed the screen.
before dropping, the screen flickered a little. after repair, the screen flickered A LOT. to the point where whatever colour, brightness etc you could see it. software 1.29.xxx.11 fixed it - no flicker what so ever!!!
I also have a flawless one, no screen flicker,no yellow spots or anything
Wow.
I didnt expect to hear from so many positive HOX users since I have been consistently hearing about peoples complaints of the HOX.
Thank you for the reply guys. It would be very helpful if you can mention the HW version number too.
First one developed yellow spot after two weeks, this replacement has no problems (other than slightly weak BT compared to my old Xperia).
Also this replacement runs a lot cooler than my old one. I think the yellow spot is partially caused by overheating so I'm hopeful that this new one doesn't develop any.

I got my One X on launch day in the UK, and not had a single issue with it.
One thing to remember is that the vast majority of the public will not actively praise something, yet those with issues will criticize it.
I was once told by some PR guru that those who have a negative experience will tell around 15 people about it, those who have a positive one will only tell around 3. With the advent of the internet and social media those numbers have escalated.
I've had my One X for about a week now. No issues whatsoever.
