Is anyone else disappointed with the HOX? - HTC One X

Not from a performance stand point but the build quality/defects. I didn't really notice until people pointed it out but the screen flexing, dust under the screen and my white one gets marks on it so easy. I mean there are multiple threads about the defects and other issues. I payed around $760 for this phone and the quality isn't up to par? I love the phone and I'm keeping it I just expected better from HTC. The Nexus One was simply perfect no defects and things for me, I thought it would have been the same for this phone. Gah oh well. Still love it though.

I understand how you feel. This is my 5th HOX and it still has minor issues like screen gap and dust between it, but I'm living with it coz I'm tired of replacing my phone every week.
First one died, next one had dead pixels, third one had scratches out of the box, fourth had LED bleeding (hole between LCD and body on top). Will never buy HTC ever in my life again, considering I paid 590euros for this disappointment.

Its a great phone.
But I have never had something that has given me so much grief when straight out of the box, it completely ruins the excitement. Disappointed that HTC let this out with so many big issues, however after a week and x3 updates the major issues have been ironed out.

Have none of those issues on mine. Out of curiosity... Are any of your units from a carrier?

I have no issues. If you need faultless hox get one from india!

Seems fine. It's a phone, it lives in my pocket, it gets dusty and scratched in the end, then I replace it in a couple of years. I guess if I elevated my expectations I might be able to muster some disappointment (but only in myself).

First one the screen wasn't perfectly stcick to the body, seconed one led light bleed thru the space betweent the dispaly and the body but I can live with that

Sadly yes, doesnt seem any faster than my desire HD (i know it is) and the main deal breaker for me is the battery life.1% drain a minute, makes me scared to use it in case the battery dies. Everything else however was perfect. No other issues.
If the battery life gets better with updates/custom Roms I'll keep it, if not I'm selling it probably

mine is in repairs. 3rd handset. if they come back and tell me they are going to give me a replacement as it can not be fixed i will insist on an s3 as i had enough with the crappy HTC phones and nothing but troubles since i took this contract with the phone. Phone has potential but blah this situation over the last month has put me off it...
so if all things go well the phone will be long gone in a weeks time

I only have a yellow spot and was going to swap it because of this however after reading all the posts in this thread I'm having second thoughts as I might get one with other/more issues....

Tmo/HTC refub quality

I am on my second replacement device from Tmo for my G2, and it is also messed up.
Come to find that my phones have been bricking due to an aftermarket battery, hence the exchanges. I have tossed that battery and use my original shipping battery. the first replacement the screen flickered a lot when the screen faded before turning off, the hinge was better than my new one prior, but still a tad off. this one i just got has a missing pixel, and the hinge seems a tad misaligned as well, more than the other one...it taps a bit when typing on the screen instead of hardware keyboard, which my original new one did soon after purchase but not as bad as the original one.
anyone else having issues with refurbs like this? what have you done with tmo to get the situation rectified?
That's why I don't bother sending my phones in. They give you someone elses old defect
sent from my HTC Desire Z
i agree, but i cant afford 500 bucks for a new device right now.
tmo offered me a sidekick 4g with android, a mt4g black, or a HD7 as a replacement if i didnt want another G2 refurb. for ****s and giggles i asked about the G2x they were out of stock. I really need the hardware keyboard
Sidekick 4G isn't bad... same size only downside for me is
NO FLASH for camera. But other than that its decent. I think G2 is best qwerty android smart phone.

lower quality camera and no flash is the number 2 and 3 reasons why i dont want it because i use the phone for business sometimes and need a decent camera and need to send pix on the spot, reason number one it screams teenager lol

I guess there has been a grand shift in how good sidekicks are? They were generally known to be total junk.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA Premium App
Supposedly yes but its still inferior to the g2 overall except maybe the processor.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
I checked out the g2x today at the store, its nice and I may consider it, but I read a lot about the issues it has and makes me wonder if its worth it yet or not. Even the store reps are saying they are just swapping them no questions asked.
Sent from my HTC Vision using XDA App
Well tmo for now won't budge off of the mt4g or the hd7 as my options over another g2, so ill be getting another phone shipped to me. Let's see how this one ends up doing.

just keep sending the phone back until your satisfied thats what i did . took about 5 times till i get the right one. make sure its made in thailand too cause the one from china got some yellow tint on the screen .

I agree, but its irritating to have to keep doing it. Just remember you have to keep doing it within the first 30 days of the exchange so you don't have to pay for express or any shipping again. Eventually ill end up getting a better alternative as tmo will have to realize the cost of these exchanges would exceed the costs of a brand new phone.

Light leak

Wow :[
I had a unit which had LED light leaks from below the capacitive buttons and so I went and got myself a newer unit in exchange. Now guess what? There's light coming out of the micro USB port!!! I can literally see from where the light is leaking and its pretty intense as well. Plus now I have light leaking from my multitask button..
Guys, before buying, check your unit before you bring it home. It'll be worth it cuz then you won't have to be running around like I may in a day or two!

Wait what?
so you are telling me i can get a new one because of this?
My model has also some light issues.
if the screen is dark , i see the light on the bottom of the display and also coming out of the micro USB port should i send it back to amazon and tell them to give me a new one? or what should i say?

I don't see why that should be a big problem as long as it does not interfere your day to day usage.
I got my unit replaced because of light leaks and yellow spot in the bottom right corner and the 2-nd phone has worse light leaks than the first.
Of course is a problem , you're paying your hard earn money for phone without defects and I can't believe that HTC are sending their phones to the stores without any checks for problems mentioned.

I pretty much agree, when we go out to buy a phone, I'd like it to be nearly perfect. Cmon, I mean as a buyer it's the least I can expect. And if it's not perfect, I'd never want it to have light leaks at least

I bought a One V and it had light leaks aswell, on the screen edges near the Back and Multitask buttons, as well as in the USB port.
Is this simply a problem that all One V's have? I have sent the unit back, but I am in doubt of replacing it with a new one, because I worry that it will simply also have light leaks.
Is there anyone with a One V with no light leaks at all? Please reply if so (and by that I mean having it tested in a totally dark room, which is when the leaks become best visible)
Thanks,

I went to 3 service centres, all had nultiple units sent in for replacement and htc themselves told me it was an issue and they were working on solving it in their next production lines.
I also had 2 aets replaced! Maybe you can give it a try? Just make sure that you check at the place itself if it's defect free or not..

I see. Well, I orderdered mine from a webshop on a contract, so I can't check easily for light leakage. I have to recieve the device by mail, check it myself, and send it back for a new one if it has leaks.
If the whole first production line is affected then it's a bit risky for me to get a replacement shipped to me, because chances are it will have leaks as well. So I can wait for the new production line - but I have no idea when those will be shipped to my webshop (but I can try to ask them).
Or I can simply choose another device. The Samsung Ace 2 is nearing release, and is about the same price. It has a dual-core processor aswell (albeit 800mhz). But it runs Gingerbread, and although it'll get updated to ICS, it's uncertain when - and I'm not sure if I really like touchwiz.
The Xperia Sola is another alternative, with 1ghz dual-core, but it has a ****ty battery and I'm not sure about the build quality of the device. Although I do really love TimeScape, and it'll get ICS soon.
Bleh, choices! I'd love to simply get the One V if it didn't have any light leaks guaranteed, I really like the materials and shape of the device, and sense 4 lite is great on ICS - even if it's just a single core.

Yeah I'm fairly impressed with the One V and it's surely the best in its class out there!
Well, looking at your situation, if you don't think that leaks would make a difference to you, then yeah might as well stick to the V. I mean, it's the least you can do if you wanna own it right now ageing as you have not many options under your belt. Regardless, Italy and great phone, I'd use it any day!

I had the One X with the exact same problem. I.swapped it out for another, and that too had lightbleed. I don't think swapping it out will make a difference. It appears to be a design flaw. I decided to go back to the Note.

No Light Leaks or Yellow Spots!
Even my One V doesnot have these problems.
What i would suggest is when you buy the phone, the manufacturing month should be post May. If you planning to buy a One V, and you see the manufacturing date as April 2012, give it a miss! HTC, I think, have solved the issue since then.

However this one has a dead pixel (again) and the front speaker holes where the led is are mis aligned, wonky basically and tbh I think it looks tacky like a cheap knock off

Personally I'd just return, the One X is an Amazing Handset, and you shouldn't have to live with a defective unit, i'm not sure why you're so unlucky to get 6 of them, but better to persist than give up and then not be able to return later.

I often cant help to think that people only find (some of the minor) issues with handsets once they have been on the forums and then go to look for them.
I wonder if I passed what i think to be a defect free handset to someone that has had more than 6 or 7 replacements that they would find defect that I dont see?
Just a thought….
Steve
No offence, but, return it and move on to a different handset... It is insane for anyone to buy/return/exchange 6-7 times for a product. Clearly the product doesn't work for you. If I have to exchange a product more than once, I'm done with that product..

That's the thing, I could, but to me there just isn't any competition to it, 100% working it wipes the floor with anything else (i hate Samsung's touchwiz and everything else they do with it like the stock browser has no desktop mode at least on sgs2, desktop mode is necessary for me) if there was a nexus with the same specs I wouldnt mind that, but then again I'm hooked on sense there's so many little features that I take for granted now and when I use another phone, it just doesn't feel right. And that's why I have to keep swapping, once I find the perfect one (which should have been the first one dammit) I will be a happy bunny
Edit: damn sense, any other product would have absolute maximum 2 tries then it would be off to another brand

I've almost driven myself mad trying to decide whether to return my HOX due to the flicker at low brightness. The problem is that for me it's a bit of a PITA to find the time to return to the shop, and the other thing is that both of the HOXs that colleagues of mine own, which came from different shops entirely, also exhibit exactly the same issue. So considering my phone is otherwise a very good example without any of the other issues I've heard about, I've decided to stick with it and see what the 1.30 update does.
This issue definitely isn't bothering me just because it's mentioned on this forum; I discovered the discussions on here after noticing the flicker myself.
I'd return it and get a replacement.

Had One X more than couple of weeks? No problems?

Hi,
I know there are number of threads about the problems of HTC One X and sorry for creating another one.
But I want to know about people who has been using it for more than couple of weeks (because this problem comes after using it for a while) and have not had the wifi issue.
So if you have been using it for more than couple of weeks, could you please share your wifi experience and also the phone version number, which is the first five digits of the serial number (HTxx, SHxx), so we can see if this is a problem only found in earlier stock and whether HTC has fixed the problem
Update: I added a poll. If you can vote your choice we can all see how much of the HOX is actually giving problems.
Thank you.
Had my first one for 3 weeks before a yellow spot appeared and I had to return it. Wifi and everything else was fine. HT24.

I also have a flawless one, no screen flicker,no yellow spots or anything

I didnt expect to hear from so many positive HOX users since I have been consistently hearing about peoples complaints of the HOX.
Thank you for the reply guys. It would be very helpful if you can mention the HW version number too.
First one developed yellow spot after two weeks, this replacement has no problems (other than slightly weak BT compared to my old Xperia).
Also this replacement runs a lot cooler than my old one. I think the yellow spot is partially caused by overheating so I'm hopeful that this new one doesn't develop any.

I got my One X on launch day in the UK, and not had a single issue with it.
One thing to remember is that the vast majority of the public will not actively praise something, yet those with issues will criticize it.
I was once told by some PR guru that those who have a negative experience will tell around 15 people about it, those who have a positive one will only tell around 3. With the advent of the internet and social media those numbers have escalated.
I've had my One X for about a week now. No issues whatsoever.

New One X not turning on

I received my new one X and had put it on charging for more then 10 hours the phone is not turning on nor showing that it is charging.
and i tried charging another HTC with the same charger it is working can anybody help me about this

I dont know what HTC are doing!!
this is pathetic, I rarely see a problem free ONE X!
I thought i was lucky with mine, until this week I got the SOD, my data it gone!
although I hate the S3 I recommend you switching to it instead of this crap and keep replacing a one x every day (N)

agree, but look at the members here, some replaced their phones ten times!
and most of the phones have issues so there is a problem with HTC.
sorry but thats my opinion.

My opinion is for you to stay on topic. Let's reduce the useless rants to a minimum. Saying that HOX sucks is in no way productive unless you want to open up your own "HTC One X suxs" thread go ahead.
Now back to the OP! Where did you buy this device? Be weary of shady ebay sellers trying to get rid of a bricked device.
What do you plug it in to? USB charge off a wall or a computer? Are you using the charging cord that came with the HOX? Is there a red light near the front facing camera?
