Back to the Galaxy Nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

Hello, A while back (January) I had the Galaxy Nexus, but for a few reasons traded it in for the Iphone 4s. I now regret that decision and have just gotten another GN and could not be happier! I love and miss this phone so much! SO GLAD TO BE BACK!!

Any reason why you didn't go for a newer phone, such as the One X?

These posts always crack me up

I left the gnex for the rezound and almost immediately regretted it. I also have a 4s and can say it hasn't even been turned on since I got the nexus back.

I think after the torture of using iOS he should be given PTSD therapy.

Hahaha welcome back my uncle also did the same, but his android was a galaxy mini... and he still liked it more!
I don't like using iOS it seems counter intuitive for me...

i thought the rezound was a pretty decent phone? i've been thinking about swapping my Gnex for a Rezound.

i just got an iphone 4s, and i must say it's pretty dope, and once you jailbreak it, it's even better. I don't see why so many hate on the 4s, it's a well designed device with solid software. I haven't had any problems with getting through a full day on one charge, plus there's TONS of cases and other accessories for it. iOS5 really isn't bad like people been saying on here, i guess it varies from person to person. Yes i still have my Nexus, and don't plan on abandoning it any time soon. Just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on the iphone 4s since i just got it a few days ago(my first iphone ever) and loving it

I'm waiting my GNex for today or tomorrow and selling my LG P500 & HTC Desire HD!!! Can't wait to have it.

Agreed.
I can agree to the fact that the iPhone 4S has good hardware, but the software isn't even ****. It's far beyond ****. So ****ty that ****ty can't describe the feeling of it. I used to have an iPod Touch 4G. Used to.

I don't hate the 4s nor do I hate iOS. I used to have a 3g and a 4, and I still have a 1st-gen iPad. As phones and OSes go, they are a very good introduction to the world of gadgets/mobile computing/mobile technology. They're powerful yet easy to use and understand, which is the main strength of the iphone. Copying, syncing, backing up, etc., can be done with one click of a button. All the complicated stuff happens in the background and the user doesn't have to do much thinking.
However, all this requires iTunes, and, oh boy, do I hate iTunes. It gets even worse if you use Windows. ITunes on Mac is bearable. ITunes on windows is a PITA. Also, iTunes is great if you only have 1 computer and only ever plug into that computer. But if you have 2 laptops, a desktop and an office computer, then you're going to have decide which one will hold iTunes and your media collection. You can have itunes in all of them, but that would require that each computer should have a copy of your entire media collection.
Want to copy some photos from your PC to your phone?
iOS: email it to yourself or use itunes.
android: plug your usb cable, then drag and drop. Or use bluetooth.
Want to transfer 10 photos from one device to another?
iOS: send 10 emails to the other iOS device or download to PC, then multiple attach to an email (or sync with iTunes if that other person doesn't mind your iTunes wiping his device and/or he/she is your husband/wife and syncs on the same PC anyway).
android: multiple attach to an email, then send. Or, add to zip file, then bluetooth. Or, android beam (if hardware allows).
Want to copy a song downloaded/bought/ripped from your office computer?
iOS: Copy it to a usb drive, bring it home and sync with itunes.
android: plug your usb cable, then drag and drop. Or use bluetooth (but might might take a while depending on how many files)
Want to transfer pdfs, docs, spreadsheets, etc. to your phone for viewing on the go?
iOS: use itunes or email to yourself.
android: plug your cable, then drag and drop. Or use bluetooth.
Anyway, you get the picture. But if you like mobile gaming, iOS is currently the platform of choice. As for me, I'm the keyboard and mouse kind of gamer.
EDIT: I should point out that my experience of iTunes on windows was on a winXP desktop. Things may have changed over the past 2 years for iTunes for windows.

No change...iTunes still suxxxxxx ass

[q] who made the switch to iphone?

i just had to do it lol .. not bad at all imo
You switched? I said I wasn't thinking about it..but now I am.
My phone pissed me all the way off today. Unplug from 10am at 99%...at 2pm I'm at 25%. 25!!!!!! And from 10am to 2pm, I was in my class for an hour and didn't even touch my phone. That's basically 4 ****in hours. 4! I'm still pissed. I've been pissed all day. Let me know how that phone is.
Edit: And you'll probably get flamed for this. People might come in and be like "THE EFF THIS GOTTA DO WITH THE E4GT!!" and this will probably get closed...if it does, pm me. I really want to know about the iPhone
Don't give two ****s about the iPhone. Enjoy being a sheep. And imo, you're trolling.
im loving this phone so far i got the 32 gig i have had all the top sprint phone 3d , photon, and the epic touch ......only thing i miss from my epic is the screen size ... so far speed very fast. better cam better screen i will update on batter life later
Not me. But, I know my daughter wants one. I will do it once the prices drop on Ebay for a clean ESN one off contract. I myself will NEVER own APPLE. It amazes me how people hated M$ years ago and now Apple is doing the same and it's ok. But to each his own. Hope it treats you well. My sister loved hers.
i am a fan of tech, not companies. If an apple product fit my needs from a phone standpoint, i would make the switch no questions. Right now, ET4G is what i am digging, but if you get what you need with an iphone great!

That is the way I also think.....I would switch if the 4s came out with a 4.0-4.5 screen, had a 4g radio would be even better if it had SuperAmoled. Right now it would be a downgrade for me on what I want out of a phone.
if it had 4.3" screen and wimax, I would have bought one
but for now, especially since its off contract, and id need at least 32gb.....who has $749 for a phone lol
Ill wait for the iphone 5 LTE version I guess
What a mistake
Just got my iphone 4s in the mail today and i regret it already after 5 hours, this os is so lame and boring theres nothing to it got to spoiled on android with customizing everything, not much different from when i had the very first iphone.forgot about no flash too wtf was i thinking listening to all these paid off reviewers that always give it over rated reviews and the pics are good but not as good i dont care what anyone says.pics i have take with my epic 4g touch are cleaner, brighter, sharper and better even when compared on my desktop, even with the random minor issues my 4g touch had it is still better by far.every issue could but fix with updates that should be around the corner.iphone 4s is a mistake and waste of money unless u like no flash or sd slot or just dont like doing cool things to the appearance of your phone, very plan os.selling on ebay tonight already reconnected my epic 4g touch, now i will never leave android.
you have been warned!!!!!!!!!!!!
I did the opposite 4 weeks ago, went from iphone on att to epic 4g touch. Happy that I did for many of the same reasons listed above, also the screen size, camera quality, etc..

Rogers Galaxy Nexus Discussion Thread

Feel free to use this thread for general discussion related to the Rogers Galaxy Nexus
I've just HUP'd to a Galaxy Nexus, pretty excited to get it in the mail this week. I'm coming from an iPhone 4s.. I've been a die hard Apple fan but I did try some gingerbread phones before and didn't mind it, just had lots of touch screen issues/texting issues (timestamps) and found it to be a hassle.
Anyone else move from an iPhone 4s and want to share an opinion?

I think my main issue though was the grid of icons, using iOS for so long I just started to absolutely HATE it. When they included Notification Center I was happy, but I realized I never even used it like I did when I had my Infuse, because it didn't feel like a real part of the OS... just a place to go to clear notifications, not SEE them and interact with them.
It is honestly the best phone I have ever seen, everything is great on it. The quality and size of the phone makes the iPhone look like a toy in my opinion. Also ICS gives Android the polish that's its needed in looks and performance.

FYI you really should wait a week when their new upgrade policy goes into effect which means you actually pay what you owe not an over inflated amount when you upgrade
And i'm going from a iP4 to a Nexus as soon as i find a best buy with one in stock
I'm considering getting the Galaxy Nexus as well. I just sold my iPhone4. I hardly ever used it as a phone. Just for music and to play Angry Birds. Sooooo happy I sold my iPhone4! My main device is BlackBerry, but I have 2 lines. I have the HTC Amaze on my second line now. I love the Amaze but it's too heavy for me to carry both devices. There's only so many purses a girl could buy! I was messing around with the Galaxy Nexus this weekend and it's a pretty sleek device. I thought about getting the Samsung Galaxy SII because of the Exynos CPU, but I need a notification led light. BlackBerry spoiled me in that department. Besides the Galaxy Nexus, any other device I should consider? I need something that is light, thin and fast.

I don't care for the iPhone. No offense to iPhone users. It does nothing for me. I agree the WP7 are lame in Canada. I think Telus is picking up the Nokia Lumia 800. I had the HTC EVO 3D 3 times....yes 3 times, LOL, the battery door drove me nuts. But it wasn't just that, it was laggy and whenever I talked on the phone, everyone said I sound like I'm talking through a tunnel. The Amaze is AMAZING! It's A LOT better than the EVO 3D. The Amaze is faster, call quality is much better, build quality more solid, screen looks better even though they both have the same res. and the speaker is much louder. The speaker on the EVO 3D was low and tin like. Overall I am very happy with the Amaze.
Now I just need a 2nd Android.

I use both and eash OS has it's strengths and weaknesses. I actually prefer WP to Android except for my dirty little shame: Every Nexus I get turns into a portable torrent box. And since I don't have a computer this is my all in one. And they did a fantastic job with Android Chrome, I must admit.
But this pissing contest **** has got to stop.
Why can't people except that in some areas on different OS's will always be better. Some hardware specs will always be better. That's life. Personally? I root for a three horse race. Each OS, Android, iOS, and WP all pushing and pulling to stay ahead.
The end result? The consumer wins.
Bravo sir.. bravo

I am a Windows developer and I don't like metro stuff at all. Guess we are going to get stuck with it but I absolutely hat eto be forced into any UI...
I LOVE MY GNEX!
Does anyone actually by Windows Phones?
I think Microsoft really dropped the ball. They were one of the few in the mobile smartphone game with their windows mobile platform. It was a true multitasking device that was capable of doing almost anything.
Then the iPhone came out and basically did less then WM phones just made things prettier. Know instead of Microsoft stepping up their game with their age looking UI they just hung back for a while.
Then came Android, which almost feels like it would have been the natural succession for Microsoft except they just waited. So all of us WM phone users started to jump over to Android. Now we are so happy there, why would we want to even try a Windows phone.

Yep. At any given time I tend to have three or so and swap back and forth. Right now? Main EDC is a stock GN with a back up 4s. The 900 is my next and I'm considering a SGS3. If the SGS3 has TW puked onto it, that's out. I sell the 4s and move into the 5. If I find a Titan 2 cheap I may grab one to play with it. (Forgot to mention I'm still looking for a Finny.)
I love Mobiles.
I had an interesting 'battle' with a windows rep today. I beat her hands down loading a webpage. She wasn't very happy.
But she did beat me updating a Facebook status.

Is the Galaxy Nexus still good?

Here's the thing: I'm in high school, and love developing. I love the android platform because it's so much more open than, say iOS. I currently have an iPhone 4S, and my mother is going to get a new phone tomorrow. This will be her first smartphone. I know iOS is more user-friendly and Siri would be a great help to her, since she drives a lot but also likes to text/talk to her friends. So what I'm wondering, is should I give my mom my iPhone, and get a Galaxy Nexus? Are they still top of the line devices? I've been longing for android ever since my samsung continuum broke and I was talked into getting this piece of garbage. I know that my mom's interested in smartphones, and I was thinking that my iPhone would probably be the best thing for her instead of an android. Or, should I let her get an android and then keep my iPhone? Thanks for taking the time to read this, I appreciate it.
well has she tried to use your iphone yet? let her try it. and the nexus still seems to be a live and licking device i just bought mine last night and i love it.
if your momo doesnt like the iphone take her in to the store and look at some of the lower end android phones. im not sure what cell provider you have though or i could recommend some to you.
Is the nexus top of the line? Not anymore. Is it a great phone? Most definitely. And it's still a very relevant device. Plenty of development, and will continue for quite some time.

I'm guessing mom's would like the iphone. Give it to her! Then get the phone that Google built. Oh and developed ICS and JB on FTW!

Well, you'd be doing her a disservice but it depends on a lot of things, not the least of which is budget.
My thoughts: if you can get her a "powerful" android (as in, Galaxy Nexus or better, using your judgment and keeping in mind that some newer devices don't quite have the software edge) then do that. But, if it means you have to keep your iPhone.. well, I can't make that decision for you, it depends how much you like her I guess

GN is probably the best bang for the buck at this particular moment, especially if you custom ROM the hell out of it. Plus, it's relatively cheap so good if you're on a budget. (Make sure you take full advantage of its unlocked pentaband and go prepaid, preferably for the $30/month plan, which results in massive savings over time.) That said, it's about a year old and will be succeeded by the next Nexus within a few months.
Well is your mom tech-savy? No? Give her the iPhone. Yes? Buy her the next iPhone, it is just around the block.
Is Gnex top-of-the-line smartphone RIGHT NOW? NOPE. If you want top-of-the-line hardware, GS3 or HTC One X.
Is Gnex still an amazing phone? YUP! Despite the lower specs, Gnex runs smooth and fast.
Should you get it over GS3? I dunno. If you don't mind lower hardware or maybe you're on a budget, Gnex. If you definitely need top-of-the-line hardware, GS3.
My dad got an iphone4 and likes it my mom has had, palm Pre(my old) 3vo, and droid RAZR, and a touchpad cm9.
Now my dad its his first smartphone so iPhone is good for him. Mom on the other hand doesn't like iPhone.
On side note the nexus s(2010) is getting or got android JB. so I would imagine the gnex will get android K&L

I came back to the GNex due two two reasons 1) Due to its timely Updates to the Latest Android OS 2) No Fuss in terms of Bootloader, Kernel etc. And a Bonus Reason - 4 Cores are an overkill on a phone for someone who doesnt game alot..the only things I miss is the 32 GB storage and Poly-carbonate Uni-body exterior and well offcourse the camera (not a huge deal breaker).
Cheers
i bought an s3 but didnt even open it, bought the gnex and returned the s3
iphone 4s, cant believe the price this thing sells, its looks like it was made 3 years ago...
Never left the Galaxy Nexus. There is nothing on Verizon that makes me think twice. I have a nexus phone with 32gb of storage, 4G lte, a HD screen, and a great dev community. What's there not to like? No phone is a big enough jump that would make me want to leave.

Yup had a s3 on sprint and finally got kicked. Now on ST ATT with my gnex and love it

Not exactly jump back, but I just bought a GalNex even though I already own HOX. Love the deepblack screen and the simplicity front design of the phone. Also love the removable battery cover so I can switch out and put the 2000mah one.

i went to the rezound when I kept getting 4g issues with the nexus on verizon. Went back to nexus after they fixed the issue. Also got tired of the lack of updates from htc
I actually turned a blind eye on my GNex once google released the maps for iOS, and now I am on iPhone5 - no brainer it is a #1 app in the AppStore in less than 24 hours since release - but I am keeping my GNex if I need an android fix

I'm thinking of going in this position as well. I sold my Gnex and got a Nexus 4, and I bought an iPod touch 5 to keep up with iOS since I hadn't used it in a while. I'm really liking iOS again. I thought about selling my N4 and getting an iPhone 5, but its way too expensive (and I've purchased a lot of apps on Google Play). I'm probably gonna buy the next iPhone when it comes out and just keep my N4 as backup, and to have access to the apps that I purchased if I want to use them.
I switched to the iPhone and came right back. Screw iTunes, paying for music, hooking your phone to iTunes in order to DELETE PICTURES, tiny screen, you have to pay for everything, and their GPS application is a joke. Not to mention the development/root apps are the best things about Android.

Don't get me wrong I think jelly bean aesthetics are years ahead of the iOS.
I paid for quite a bit on the Play Store.
I use a lot of streaming services like spotify and pandora (have paid subscription to both).
On top, everything that I used on Android is here on iOS and some things are way more polished to be ignored - notably the google maps. Of course some things are just terrible like sharing.
Camera though kick the living **** out of GNex amateurish approach and a nice bonus.
Galaxy Nexus was the longest I ever had the same phone. Absolutely perfect even with verizon being retarded about updates. I would have kept it but it took a fall and the glass broke. Got a replacement screen which was a defect. Still waiting on another one but I picked up the note 2 to try and I fell in love with it. This phone killed my want for a tablet and it's absolutely perfect.

It is 16gb, but like I said I can't sell it because iPhone 5 is way too expensive. If you have an iP5 that you're willing to trade, my N4 is in mint condition

I am on sgs3 but coming back on gnex, even if 16 gb is not enough, this phone is crazy...
