Are you sure that the sound file does not have a long silence at the end of it?
you could also try editing the file to so that the sound you want repeats a few times all in the same file. I would recommend Audacity for editing it.
I think there are apps on the market that will edit audio files too, but I am not familiar with any of them.
I have never experienced this problem, but all my custom ringtones are longer then the amount of rings I have.

When I was on 4.0.2 stock, it wasn't rooted. Fully stock. No custom sound file problems like you have.
B32 AOKP was rooted though but it also didn't have that issue. I've been on Liquid since 1.3 came out and that's also been rock solid and doesn't have the sound issue you're having.
Have you tried factory reset?

[SOUNDS] JB - Louder System Sounds

Jelly Bean - Louder System Sounds
Requirement Notes: You must have a JellyBean ROM installed, AOSP or other!
Ever notice some of the sounds are a bit lower than what you would like? This is a package of some of those system sounds, but the DB levels have been increased anywhere from 2-6 DB.
Some of the sounds include things like:
Camera Click
Low Battery
Effect Tick (the one that ticks as your clicking on things)
Low Battery
Lock
and a few more!
Code:
1.) Unzip the file to a directory on your SDCARD
2.) Use Root Explorer or similiar to copy all files
3.) Paste them in [B]System --> Media --> Audio --> UI[/B]
4.) Overwrite files & [B]REBOOT[/B]
Note 1: that if you are running Team EOS's JB build, gingerbread sounds are stock in that ROM. These sounds are for JellyBean and will replace those sounds. Most prefer that as they are better sounds anyways, over gingerbread.
I've thought about applying the same techniques to the notification sounds as well. Not sure yet, really depends on the demand.
Note 2: If you notice anything that's still stock or not that loud, I may have missed some. I can adjust as necessary.
This is my first contribution here for the Nexus, so please be gentle. If anyone knows how to easily make this a flashable process, I'm all ears...as my knowledge only goes so far.
Enjoy.

Working great here! I really like the sounds are significantly louder. If I'm gonna have have my phone off vibrate I really wanna hear it haha. Good mod man

Everything seems cool except for camera click. Why is the world would anyone want to make that louder. The first I try to do is see how the heck I can shut that sound off! lol
How is the speaker sound guys? Is it louder than stock?

Does anyone have the original tick sound when you tap on stuff. I don't like the new louder one, it's kind of irritating when you are in a quiet room.

Speaker volume is very low in Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean

Hello Guys,
Can you guys please go to the following link and star that problem, to see if Google can do something about correcting this issue.
this low volume is the biggest complaint about staying stock.
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=35084
Why not just use Franco kernel and use volume boost... I just hate filing complaints.
-tapped from my paradigm Franco kernel Galaxy nexus
I have the same problem with a nexus galaxy with jellybean 4.1.1
I found a soluction in web that talk of change a string in system\build.prop
"ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps=" and change its value to 10.
But my problem is that in my build.prop the string there isn't.
How i can solve the low volume on my nexus?
Volume+ (volume boost) don't work, it crash at start
Bump!
If any of you guys have time, please Star that topic.
I know it can easily be fixed via rooting the device or what not.
But i'm kind of over the whole rooting scene in a way and just want to stay stock.
but it bugs me that if my nexus is in my pocket or if im not in a quiet room i can barely hear anything.
i also emailed the google play support team, hopefully they will reply.
i've owned way too many google devices for them to just ignore us like that.
best believe if this issue is not resolved via software update, sad to say but i will be switching over to ios.
reply back from Google Play.
I guess they cant do anything about it.. This sucks.
Hi JC,
Thanks for your response back. I can understand how annoying it can be to
experience low volume on your phone device and having to wait for the
development team to come out with an OTA to fix the issue. Unfortunately,
this information isn't available to us since it's being handled by the
Android development team. I recommend you report the issue directly to the
development team. Here's how you can report platform bugs:
http://developer.android.com/support.html
There is also a chance that the issue might be something Samsung might be
able to either repair or perform a replacement for; depending on how long
you've had your device. If you'd like, you're welcome to give us a call
and we can see if this will help. I'm providing a link to our click to
call below:
http://support.google.com/googleplay/bin/request.py?contact_type=contact_policy&policy=hardware
If you have any other questions or concerns, please reply back to this
email and I'll be happy to help further.

Jay

If you are just referring to Music / Video audio volume you might want to check out this app.. I haven't tried it.. I'm running CM10 which sounds great...
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.omegacentauri.SpeakerBoost&hl=en
I can understand the stock mentality but with a couple adjustments you will get a better than stock - stock experience...
Personally If I wanted to stock-ish, I would flash the stock rom, root, install trinitystable35 kernel, install trickster mod, adjust headphone volume only and then set superuser to deny any root attempt by default without a prompt...

If you wanted to add that to your build.prop, you could download Build Prop Editor from the Playstore, create a key named ro.config.vc_call_vol_steps, and give it the value 10. At your own risk, of course.
Do they even test this stuff? It's beyond unacceptable to have a speaker this inaudible. Makes me want to throw my phone every time I try to watch a video.
I added my two cents to the link.

Download to computer. Extract with 7zip. Move entire media folder to sd and replace/merge current media folder. Might get warning staying device cannot play some files. Ignore. They work.

I also has got version 4.2.1 and I stock ROM is just fine for me, I never liked CM, but I have got root. A have got problem with volume too, do not hear SMS in my pocket at all.
I did not find the solution, Volume+ boost app still do not work with JB (hopefully will work soon) and Speaker Boost still "stop working", even the old versions.
So, do you know any other solution?
JB 4.1.1 Low volume issue resolved - at lease for me
i had the same issue when i upgraded my stock S3 to 4.1 -- the speaker volume was very low in Nav and music players.
Increasing the "Media" volume fixed it for me.
click on the volume button (up or down) and then click on the settings icon at the end of the slider. Now slide the "Media" volume to the highest.
Everything is back to normal -- in nav audio and speaker phone etc.
If you have not already tried this, you can give it a try ... it might fix it!

Help my nexus become a phone

Hello guys,
I have bought my galaxy nexus yesterday and it is working really great. But to my dismay,it has almost non-existant speaker volume.I don't know about my incoming messages and I miss all my calls because I cannot hear the phone ringing. This phone is running stock jelly bean 4.1.2
Now my question is probably already answered in this forum, but I get confused with so many solutions.I am willing to root, unlock and what not if someone can give me the correct instructions.I just want my phone to have audible speaker volume for sms, calls, movies and songs.
I would prefer that my phone remains as stock as possible so I can recieve the OTA updates too,so please avoid telling me solutions that involve custom roms.If custom rom is the only solution tell me how to have ota updates too.
Thanks in advance
without knowing how loud it is, it is possible there is something wrong with the speaker. you should verify that it is functioning properly before rooting it and playing with custom roms. Mine is currently stock and volume is great imo

Well I can't think of a way to accurately describe how loud it is,lets say I have the loudest ringtone that I play both on my neo v and nexus. It makes me jump when it rings on neo v.But on nexus its like a whisper,
About playing with custom roms,I specifically said in my original post, that I don't actually want custom rom solution.I wanna stay stock for ota updates

[MOD]Touch Sounds - Updated with AOKP Touch/Lock/Unlock and Blackberry Storm click

I'm not sure if I'm the only one, but after owning the GS3 and the Note 2, I've gotten awfully tired of the water drop sound when touching anything on the phone.
I changed my screen click sound to the CM10 touch sound and the soft buttons to a different sound pulled from the samsung rom (kind of a softer click). Both are much more suitable for me.
Just thought I'd make it a little easier for anyone else like me.
This is not flashable. Must be rooted. Download zip and extract 2 files. You need to use a file manager and paste these in the /system/media/audio/ui folder, then fix the permissions and reboot. Good habit to back up original sounds.
Should work on any GS3 and Note 2 stock based roms.
3-5-13 Fixed. New zip has AOKP touch sound, and lock/unlock sounds.

I'm trying to get an outgoing mail sound(swoosh), on my unrooted SGSIII. Would your method work for me, if i downloaded a file manager? I have the sound that i want in my notifications folder, but there's no place to put it, in order for it to work. It's the sound that you would hear, when you send out a text or email, from an iPhone. Thanks for any help that you can give me.
Sorry, you need to be rooted. I used to use ChompSMS instead of the stock app. I believe it uses the same sound when you send. It used to at least.

Fix for poor A2DP quality on 4.2.2

Just wanted to share this here. There is clear audible decrease in audio quality on 4.2.2 when listening over bluetooth (A2DP). All the higher tones were somehow garbled, like cymbals, or high vocals, etc. I could clearly notice the poor quality on 4.2.2 on my car stereo and also the improvement after installing the fix on my stock rooted GN 4.2.2 (GSM). I haven't tested this on custom ROMs.
Steps:
Root your phone, if not rooted
Make Nandroid backup (in worst case, you might not be able to boot)
Download bluetooth.default.so http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632#c158 Also attached to this message.
Download audio.a2dp.default.so http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=39632#c163 Also attached to this message.
In /system/lib/hw, rename bluetooth.default.so to bluetooth.default.so.bak (or whatever)
In /system/lib/hw, rename audio.a2dp.default.so to audio.a2dp.default.so.bak (or whatever)
Copy files to /system/lib/hw
Set permission on both files to be same as with the original files (644)

CM's Bluetooth quality (I mean A2DP streaming quality) is much better than on stock ROM.
I noticed the difference when I tested CM10.1 first Nightly of JB 4.2.2..
Does this help with call quality over standard Bluetooth

Interested in this answer as well. Can anyone clarify please?
Is it possible/likely that in addition to fixing issues with quality, this will also resolve the high-speed playback problem? A few other people and myself have experienced BT audio streaming where it plays back way too fast in the car. So far there doesn't seem to be a qualified fix for it. I'm interested to try this and see what happens - just wanting to see if anyone knew for certain ahead of time.

Thanks so much for posting this OP!!! I have been lamenting my purchase of the N4 until this fix. The phone is now perfect! Well aside from no voice search for music like Siri (Google Voice search never pulls up my music).
I finally fixed my Bluetooth in call audio.I switched back to 4.1. This really sucks as I got used to 4.2.2 pull down toggles. I really hope Google gets this straightened out. This fix does help the Bluetooth audio streaming but my work truck and headset are not A2DP and when in call the volume seems to fade in and out. My Subaru has A2DP and made music easy to listen too but in call still seemed bad.

Any chance this fix works on non-Nexus hardware? Since moving to a JB phone from one running ICS I have lost two very useful facilities - Llama being able to pick up cell changes without the screen being on and good quality BT audio.
Not sure if this will help anyone else but found doing factory reset fixed most of my 4.2.2 Bluetooth issues. Ota gave me issues. When 4.2.2 Google factory image was released I fastboot flashed it did a factory reset immediately and all seems to work fine but id tags for songs.
