After market extended battery comparisons. - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I'm currently about to place an order on an allotment of galaxy nexus (LTE) extended battery's for testing, I see quite a lot of threads on the seidio battery so I won't be including it but however I am including a multitude of slim higher capacity battery's and larger 3800 behemoths. If you would like to suggest any particular ones I would love to add them to the list for review. Currently in the 3800 category I have qcell, Hyperion, and trexcell.
In the original OEM size category I have some generic eBay batteries ranging from 1950-2680mah.
If your dying for a review on something not listed here post it in the comments, I've got $84 left to spend on testing units, and I'll do my best to work them in.
An MHL adapter and USB host cable are also going to be reviewed

are you going to be testing the capacity or just doing rundown tests through the phone?

I will be testing their actual capacity, quality and life.

im personally most interested in the "stock" size ones like the oem 2000mah version. would love to find a cheaper version then the $36 you have to spend on an oem for a batt that costs 4 dollars to produce.

I too am interested I have 3 battery's in the slim category one claims to be 2000mah another says it is 2400mah and one is supposedly 2680mah I have very low hopes for these because they are cheaper and have higher capacities than the stock but still remain as thin. It is possible to such a thing but I doubt these will for the price.
Im placing the order tomorrow.
3 slim batteries and 3 larger sized ones

I had some Evo batteries like this from ebay. They claimed higher MAh than stock & lasted nearly as long. Considering that for the price, it was a decent purchase.

okay the order is placed, should I be worried about the batteries damaging my Gnex? I have a few ways I could test the voltages and outputs what should I be looking for?

So I have run into some complications with poor customer support and shipping problems so i had to cancel the order. But luckily I will be reviewing one extended battery.
the seidio 3800mah ill report back with stats and some tests, its charging right now. I'll be skipping the generic size and feel stuff and cut straight to the statistics and build quality once I break it in with a couple cycles

Replacement Battery

Just curious what others have found quality wise with replacement batteries. I've been looking on eBay and have come across a few extremely cheap ones and some mid priced ones as well. Any insight would be appreciated!

I ordered one of these batteries a few days ago and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I read in another thread that the guy liked it and it worked good so we will see...
Edit: got battery now and so far so good. Way better compared to stock. For the price u can't go wrong. Worst case scenario I'm out 15 bucks if it malfunctions. Fyi using SBC kernel with it.

I've bought several 1800mAh and 1500 mAh aftermarket batteries from eBay and they have out-performed my stock batteries (they're all made in China, anyway). Why pay $40 for one battery at Sprint when you can buy 6-8 from eBay for the same price. Just my 2 cents worth.......
I bought three aftermarket 1500s and an external charger (it was a single purchase) for about $11 with free shipping.
They're definitely cheap and they shipped from Hong Kong. They don't output their temperature or other information that is read by battery monitoring apps, but what I gained was definitely worth the price.
I haven't seen a difference in battery life between my stock battery and my aftermarket batteries. I've used sbc kernels with them without issues, though I rarely charge through the phone.
I couldn't justify spending 4 times the price or more for a replacement or extended battery. Just keep your batteries charged via an external charger & you'll never have to worry about plugging your phone in or cutting back to save battery life.

I would highly recomend seidio they are rated the best as far as listed mah verses actual mah . They sell them online and at bestbuy. Somewhere on this site is a link to a guy who tests a lot of China Japan batteries for actual mah and price per mah. I use seidio 3500 from bestbuy platinum but it cost 69.99. It has 30days warr but it takes almost that much time just to get the phone used to it. Also, its true that that mostly come from the same part of the world but the factory rates them on cell quality and price points them based on this factor. So i would argue that you get what you pay for.

I agree with gentyle completely. I bought a seidio 3500mA battery and a replacement 1500mA from another company and I'll never go with anything else. The 3500 outperformed the others by 3 times even though it should technically have only a bit over doubled them.

Bought a 3500 mA battery off ebay, for $15, it lasts the entire weekend with moderate use.

3500 mah battery coming soon?

I'm hoping to get a bigger battery for this phone as I have to charge it twice a day w regular use. And this phone falls out of my hand too easily so it could use more weight and thickness.... anyone know of any batteries other than the 2100 mah? Its not worth adding only 400 mah so I'd rather get the 3500 if it comes out.

Check the Samsung website, I saw a higher capacity battery with accompanying back plate there. eBay may have one too.

There are only two batteries, the stock 1850mAh, and the extended 2100mAh (which is what OP is talking about). I agree, i would like to see something better than just a 250mAh increase (and i got big hands, so i would enjoy the thicker profile)
EDIT: there are only two batteries from samsung; i guess you can find a 3rd party 3500 online if you are willing to trust it in your $700 device (i wonder if 3rd party batteries are covered under warranty)

can you do a more detailed analysis of the battery pls? screen on time playing a full 720p movie on a loop? white background screen on time?
How much was it?
I just "love" these so called reviews ... no photos, no real tests, no real comparisons ...
Thanks! I order myself two of the single batteries here. The original alone is just not enough to run the phone. Seems like they did have the two batteries plus a charger before but that sold out.

shill much?
If anyone has any idea where I can buy one of these from outside the US, please let me know ^^. I live in France so anywhere that can deliver to Europe really. Thanks
Hmm, I wish I would have known about this before, I would have tried it out. I just received the official Samsung 2000mAh battery and cover from SK. Cost me like $45 on ebay.
edit: although I note the qcell battery does not appear to support NFC...
These batteries are quite good. The charger is very handy in charging up the spares. Highly recommend this

anyone can tell me the input voltages for the batteries and charger? will it work on 220v outlet? tia
I've bought a bunch of 3rd party batteries for my previous phones (Nexus One, Sensation), and have found that they're pretty much all crap and any perceived gains are simply psychological. Actual batteries mAh ratings are often significantly exaggerated on the product labeling, this can easily be determined by peeling off the label and looking for serial and model numbers printed on the metal battery casing. Googleing these numbers brings up product data sheets from manufacturers in China with the actual mAh rating.
I now only buy OEM batteries as I think it's the only way of ensuring your getting what you think you are. Think of it this way, if Samsung could pack more mAh into a specific size, they probably would. The size of a battery is limited by the battery technology, so if you calculate the mAh/gram density of the OEM battery I would use that as a guideline. 3rd party batteries advertising densities higher than that are probably exaggerating the actual capacity.
Jim, completely agree, and have usually found non-OEM batteries to be total crap, however it's possible to find some that aren't. I bought some PowerGen batteries for my Nexus One about a year ago and they've given me performance on par with the OEM battery. I made that purchase based on positive reviews and since they only cost about $10 (IIRC), way cheaper than OEM, it was a good risk and deal. Worked for me. I'm hoping the QCell batteries will be the same, but haven't seen enough positive reviews to know yet...

I don't want to come off as a completely cynic (which I will), but the two people talking about these QCell batteries are named "ckang008" and "awong12." The latter of the two has 3 total posts on XDA, and "ckang" has a handful of posts since registering this past January (55 total) talking up these QCell batteries for all different devices. Again, they could both be very real people, but this thread to me seems like a bit of a hoax.
But if this thread in fact legit, I do agree with Jim and GPSRider as I have similar experiences with OEM vs non-OEM batteries in the past.
Any updates? I've bought 3rd party batteries before, for my HTC Sensation. Something similar, 2x1900mAh + charger, but theose were Anker, and they were pretty good. Lasted longer than the stock one.
I'm considering trying these as I find it very comfortable to have spare batteries and a battery charger.

I can understand your skepticism. I am one hell of skeptical person too. But I do owe these Qcell batteries (I bought a pair with a charger) and have had them for 4/5 months now. No problems absolutely.
Take the 2050mah for granted. They are not any higher than stock. But the build quality is very good at least for me.
I've had great experience with my 2100 vzw extended battery but that's made by Samsung.

Better Regular Sized Batteries

I have VZW GN and wondered if there were any batteries out there that are the same physical size as the standard OR extended batteries, but perform better?

Anker has a 2200mAh one, i have their 2000mAh which is barely different, but I just needed a slim battery for an external charger to switch out when I'm low on juice

I dont see why other battery companies dont jump on this and make larger capacity thin batteries...
If you do some research you'll find that *most* aftermarket batteries do not put out the full mah ratings that they claim to have.
Stock batteries are the most reliable in meeting their actual mah ratings. I had a good experience with Anker in the past in my Sensation but other than that, every other aftermarket battery I have bought has not lived up to the qualify of stock.

They can label it as a 3000mah battery but that doesn't mean you'll actually get that, these cheap battery manufacturers can't cram more capacity into the same size as samsung does, why can't people understand this?

Slim Extended Battery Question

Hey guys noob here
So I was looking at some slim extended batteries online and I came across this one on ebay:
Brand : AceSoft
Voltage: 3.8V.
Battery Capacity: 2680 mAh
I would post a link but I can’t because I am a new user
Did anyone ever heard about this brand? If not could you guys recommend me one?
Thanks
The biggest factor when looking at stock size extended battery is cost, atleast for me. The stock battery that came with my i747 is 2100mah, i would assume they all are but i try not to assume when i don't have to. You didn't mention how much the battery in question was going to run you, but for a measly 580mah gain i wouldn't pay more than 10 bucks for it. I got my anker 4400mah for 14.99 shipped, although it is twice the thickness of the stock battery, i quickly got used to the added size in favor of days worth of charge. On top of that Anker is a well know, reputable battery manufacturer and after a quick google search i couldn't find much more than item listings for AceSoft. If you were going to pay for a minimal, stock sized upgrade Samsung is apparently releasing one soon as per a twitter post shown here.

I assume my otterbox won't fit on it after I put on an anker battery? what cases do they have made for larger phones liek this?
I wouldn't know, i dont use cases on my phones.
The thing about discounted extended batteries is they are old/new batteries. As they have a shelf live, as soon as the newer one ion what ever they're called come off the press they start to depreciate the longer they sit on a peg in the store or in the stock room the lesser they will last in your phone. Use them or lose them is the way they are. This is why they give you a discount as to not rip you off too much and for them to still try and make some money back on there investment of making or selling them.
A not so good rule of thumb would be the more you pay the younger the battery should be.
I am sure no one selling you the battery will tell you this it is bad for there businesses.
I got the shelf life info on Google.
