Galaxy Nexus - AT&T - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

https://play.google.com/store/devices/details?id=galaxy_nexus_hspa
I know there's GSM support for it. I'm unfamiliar with AOSP devices. Will there be, or is there good developer support for the device when used with AT&T? I'm coming from a SGS 2 SkyRocket.
If you're not using the GSM version on AT&T there's probably no reason for you to be a troll.

Have you seriously not read a thread or news article in the last 24 hours?
That's not an AT&T Galaxy Nexus. Its an unlocked i9250 GSM model. Works on AT&T, T-Mobile, or any GSM carrier in the US/World. Its the same (save for pre-installed Google Wallet) as the European model that's been sold for the last 5+ months.

Seriously?

Google Officially Selling Galaxy Nexus GSM in USA via Play Store ($399)
On the first page of this forum.

I understand that... The phone will work on AT&T. Never said AT&T is selling it. FFS I linked to the Google page for it.
I just seen this today. The question is: is it worth it? If there's not going to be any developers working on it. It's probably not worth it to me. I'd probably just get the SGS 3.

Please just leave this thread and go join the other ones. You clearly have not read about the device, because it is the EXACT SAME as the other ones. It won't be a special phone that requires different ROMs or development. The phone has been on sale for over 5 months.

No, we're not trolls, we're just tired of people that are uninformed creating irrelevant, duplicate threads before searching or even reading the titles of the threads on the first page of the forum.
Obviously this phone has developer support, it's a Nexus. It doesn't matter what freaking SIM card you put in the back of it, its still the same device. GSM device support is GSM device support. Read. Please!

FFS ppl the OP was just asking a question. Yes the GN sold by Google is supported by AOSP and will have [email protected]!# ton of ROM and development going for a long time

Per your suggestion I've looked through the last 5 pages and there's a couple that's semi similar to mine. The official announcement: which I could try to start a conversation there and it get lost in the general chatter about it, and another question like mine but about the battery. I could hijack his thread. That would be cool? Instead of trolling, which most of the replies have been, you could have said something like "I seen a post earlier that might help out". The replies have been absolute crap. If you're tired of seeing it ignore it.
I'm Never used an AOSP device, or an international device. Before I bought it I thought I would come over kick up a conversation with some people that have a GN and ask some questions. General stuff about development on it. Is there a difference between this one and the international version.
The way you people responded to someone that has never been in this specific device's forum, or messed with any variant of the device before is not right.

Thank you!! I'll talk to you.
Thinking about buying it. Never used or paid much attention to AOSP devices because AT&T doesn't sell them. Are there any catches coming from Non-AOSP devices? I wasn't sure if there's any catches to using the international GSM roms with AT&T. Completely clueless here. I don't necessarily have time to read every post for 10 pages. Looking for a general overview of my questions.

You asked a really obvious question which is why people are responding to you the way they are. The question also doesn't make much sense since it is hard to believe that you this little about this phone. I think you are asking if the Galaxy Nexus works well with AT&T. The answer is yes. It also works well with any GSM network provider. There is good development for this phone, and nothing has to be or will be unique to AT&T.
There's no catches to using this phone with AT&T. Everything works great. Well actually, there are a few catches, I wouldn't get this phone if you were hoping to have:
1. Delayed software updates, or no updates at all
2. Terrible superimposed user interface that is more buggy
3. Lots of bloatware like AT&T Navigator just in case you wanted to pay AT&T for something Google gives for free and does a better job at.
If you are looking for any of those, then yeah, that's the only catch.

Why would I every look into a phone that I can't use? It has nice specs. I can't use it. Close. What's obvious to you isn't so obvious to someone else. Maybe it's all exactly the same as what I'm used to, or maybe there's some stuff you you "just know from experience" that I wouldn't know.

I read your post twice and I have no idea what you were trying to say.

Maybe a better question is: "Do the GSM ROMS work correctly on AT&T without any catches? If there is a catch are the developer pretty quick to help fix, or do the developers ignore AT&T"
I know this is not a primary AT&T device so I know the support is going to be back burner. I just want to know how back burner it is.

This is what I'm saying. You have a very very weak understanding of how this works. Do you really think that there are specific ROMs and tweaks for all of the dozens of carriers people are using this device on? Its an unlocked GSM device. There's no special software needed. You put in your SIM card.
Developers suppor the device. Not the network.

REQ: Nexus S 4G section

the phones will start shipping next weekend, id hope the mods will make a cdma section for it by then? id love for some type of development for roms, rooting and kernels to start.
i requested it a while back ago. all i got was we will think about adding it.. its a shame too, look at the nexus s forums there have been a fair amount of bricks due to people flashing the wrong model number odin tars... imagine if we add cdma to that.. sure wouldnt want a repeat of what happened with the HTC Hero (cdma and gsm)
there would be no reason for xda to NOT add this section. i agree we need to keep the roms & mods separate.
Is the phone really even that much different? Has anyone tried a normal Nexus S ROM on a Nexus S 4g?

How about the hardware to work with Sprint's WiMAX?
That's why they want the section to avoid this misconception of the two being the exact same device.
rom wise you might be able to boot, but i dunno about the kernel.. but the radios definitely will ruin someones day.. the i9020 firmwares already brick i9023's and many of teh other variants

agreed the cdma/wimax nexus will require different radios, roms & kernels.
I agree GSM/CDMA should not share the same thread. Noobs will be bricking their devices left and right. Besides, it sucks sifting through GSM/CDMA threads trying to find a compatible ROM/kernel.
This is a necessity - I'm considering a switch, probably won't, but if I did, I would be afraid to use xda without this seperate forum.
I have been reading up, considering the switch, have decided not to. While reading and not knowing which phone is which, 9020, 9023, nor what the new one is, I see the confusion and problems this is causing among current users. Throw a whole bunch of new users from Sprint in, and this will be a mess, it will cause more problems than solutions.
I have mine preodered for this weekend, and I agree - YES, there does need to be a CDMA section. Even back in the days of the HTC Vogue, Touch Pro, and Hero devices, there was always the risk of flashing the wrong ROM - keeping the development forums separate is a MUST!
This is a must indeed!
Just preordered my Nexus S at Best Buy... we need a Nexus S 4G section!
i plan on taking this epic i bought saturday back to get the nexus s 4g when its released
NS4G FORUM A MUST!!!!!!!!!
This has been debated in the NS forum many times. Their bigest worry is about the devs sticking together. I feel this is a mute point. the SNS and the NS4G are going to be two diffrent beasts with a common branding. MOst of the reason my have been stated already
Or the other option is to let the bricks start flying and lose the NS4G community all together.

Some sort of forum admin, I'm not sure who the main people are that take care of this thing. With it releasing tomorrow at stores, and packages already in the mail.. there is no reason for it not to be up now though.
T-Mobile GSII forum will be up tomorrow!
The issue of separate forums for all GSII variants came up. We decided to split them all, like we did with original GS, because the devices are different, and it'd get confusing having, for example, a massive ROM thread with ROMs for four different devices. So, yes, tomorrow we'll add the forum.

Google abandons CDMA (for developer devices)

From techeye:
http://news.techeye.net/mobile/google-abandons-cdma?
CDMA is marked "archived, for reference only"
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html
I guess that finally nails the Verizon Galaxy Nexus as a carrier-phone. Next time buy a truly free & open device (i.e. GSM)
Seriously though. This Galaxy Nexus launch and follow-up has to be the messiest thing I've ever since Google set its foot into. From launch, to providing international release-dates, to US promotion, to handling updates, to releasing buggy updates, to pulling them, to general PR.
It's all been a big ****ing mess.
Is this the sign of the start of the end of the Nexus program or what? Or is leaving closed CDMA networks and carriers behind actually a sign of a new, better start?
Discuss.
Welcome to last week.

Edit: Rootzwiki seems to have something more to offer than the techeye article.

Still not crystal clear, and definitely falls under my definition of messy PR.
The rootzwiki even has an update, because Google has messed up its correcting response and needs to correct itself, again.

Funny thing is how the 'abandoned' device is getting more frequent updates than e officially supported device. We still don't have 4.0.3 officially yet (the last relapse is officially the Nexus S one), and 4.0.4 is CDMA only.

Hm. Should have searched the forum better it seems. I didn't find it before posting. Anyway. The conclusion from that thread still seems to be incredibly messy.
Can anyone tell WTH it now does mean to be a "Nexus" device? Ever since the release of the Galaxy Nexus and its "evil" CDMA counter-pair, that definition seems to have been in a flux.

How does it feel? At least we have source access which we can use to build a working phone image, running 4.0.3. Which is more than you can say about the 4.0.4 release.

If my understanding is correct, you need to build 4.0.3 with the proprietary files (binaries) contained in a working cdma build of the device (what Google has called "apks"). Since those files are closed source, they cannot be included in AOSP.
Why those cdma files are closed source is a mystery. It could be for legal reasons or it could be because of the way cdma networks communicate with devices (requiring them to have a signature from the carrier embedded in them).
Sent via Galaxy Nexus
The proprietaries are all closed source. GSM included. Looks like Google couldn't obtain a license to distribute is the whole problem. Hence they also axed the factory images, because it was a form of redistribution of them as well.

There is no source release of 4.0.4 yet but I have been on 4.0.3 since the day I got my phone.
How does it feel? It feels great to have 32GB of space on my phone and get an average 20Mbps downstream. (At times reaching 40Mbps+)
This isn't old news at all and it is a big deal. A lot of people got screwed here by both Google and Verizon. Not having official AOSP support for developer nexus phone is unacceptable. If there were code distribution issues, then Google should have worked that out way before the official launch. I'm still holding out hope that this will be resolved, but at this point i'd settle for just getting out of my contract and moving over to the GSM variant.
On a related note, I wish CDMA would just fade away into a bad memory.

Wait 12 days for what? What devices haven't been released yet? If you're talking about Nexus 4, that's not what I'm talking about, and the Nexus 4, is Jelly Bean 4.2, not 4.1.1, which is what I was talking about. If Sprint can release it, and Verizon can leak it, why can't AT&T at least leak something, even if it goes through another 2 or 3 leaks before official release.

Thought you were talking about 4.2. But either way. You're comparing carriers. Different carriers release faster than others. So to say verizon or sprint can do it doesn't really hold any significance. AT&T does there own thing. So if you're waiting on them I wouldn't hold your breath dude.
I realize that carriers release things differently, and VERIZON, didn't release there's it's a LEAK. So all I am asking is, where is the AT&T LEAK?

I use my GPS a lot, so don't have time and can't afford it not to be guaranteed to work. Hence wanting an AT&T leak.

By definition, a leak is, something an owner doesn't want to be made available and somehow becomes available before it's suppose to.
I wouldn't expect AT&T to volontarily "release" a leak...
They're only doing a better job than the other carriers keeping their stuff to themselves.
Of course, that's unless Sprint and Verizon intentionnaly leaked theirs...

Hahah u sound frustrated. Even when the ATT leak comes don't expect it to be 100%.
As for the Sprint leaks I understand your reluctancy to flash it. Worse case is if it didn't work flash back to what did. That's the great part about Android.
I had issue with a certain JB rom until I found Graxxixnyc port and it works flawlessly. GPS et al.
Other then that just wait for ATT to give us JB, but as task said don't hold your breath as if we get official from them by the end of this year we would be lucky.

Yes, I know it's something that the owner doesn't want out, but yet somehow all carriers seem to have them. Which was the point of this post. Never said they would "voluntarily" release it, otherwise I would have stated that implicitly. All I said was that since the OFFICIAL SPRINT release is out, and a leaked version of Verizon's SG3 software as of 10/8/2012 where is the AT&T version?

lol. keep on trolling dude. thats not what XDA is for. remind yourself of that. things you did wrong here.
1.) You didn't even try and help. I did.
2.) You brought your personal opinion of me into a development site. Leave your emotions at the door. Your personal opinions do not belong here.
3.) Contribute or add something here or it's a waste of a post. Learn that.

I'm not sure how long you've been with AT&T, but they seem to take the longest out of all of the carriers in terms of their release times. Leaks come and go and sometimes never come. Basically it's just a waiting game dude. Patience is key when with AT&T.

Its not about trolling "dude" its about talking to people in a respectful manner. I think its silly that when a some users are a developer they feel like they can come on and talk down to people. I'll just as soon run stock cupcake 1.5 on my phone than have some one treat me like **** for asking a question. But hey you're a grown man do what you want. people sniffing your corn hole for the latest ROM has went to your head apparently.

Lol. Please grow up dude. I mentioned something along the lines that source hasn't been released yet and this is what you get from it? It was a simple error in reading it correctly. Happens every day dude. Get used to it. That's not only weird but its also taking something waaaay out of context. This is you holding a grudge for some reason or another and releasing it in a development site. So either you should keep to yourself or contribute to this community. That's what XDA is all about dude.
Thank you Task650, I realize that AT&T takes FOREVER, been with them seems like FOREVER. I know that leaks come and go, all I'm asking, is if anyone has any information about any AT&T leaks, not leaks from other carriers, that if you stand on your head, and spin, then it will work, and that if it doesn't you can always go back. I know all this, and if that is what I wanted to do I'd do it. But what I'm looking for is an AT&T leak, that way it's has the most chance of having most if not all things working properly. I am patient when waiting for things to happen, but just asking a friendly does anyone know if one is out yet, or heard anything is all.

They take longer than forever from what I've seen. Which really sucks for the user that wants to run stock official roms. There is no leak yet. You will definitely know when there is because it will be posted in the development forum and users that use touchwhiz will be all over it.

you should really be concentrating on #2 & #3. please remind yourself that this site is about development. please go to the more appropriate places like Facebook, Twitter, or start a blog if you feel the need to voice your personal opinions about me. Your observations are just that. yours. but either way they belong elsewhere. please stop polluting XDA with them. thanks.
P.S- See how every one of your posts do not include any help for the original author of this thread? That says something about you. You might want to take a look at that.

Do we need a dedicated Nexus 7 LTE subforum?

As the the title suggests, I think that it would help make things less cluttered. Just a Nexus 7 LTE (2013) Android Development subforum, not a complete new device forum. Btw, I still don't understand the difference between Development and Original Development, so please comment if you do understand and do think that we need them both for LTE version.
I already suggested this to forum mod MikeChannon, he said they would consider it.
Thinking that the earlier we get it the less effort, problems and trouble it creates I am now putting up this poll.

Nexus 7 LTE different
The Nexus 7 LTE is different from Nexus Wi-Fi similarly how the predecessor Nexus 7 Mobile is different from the Wi-Fi model.
However, in the US, the LTE will run on the top-3: AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile, and in multiple modes, so expect lots of questions about APNs, plans and such.
Another area of confusion will be the various VoIP clients people will use, like Talkatone, Sipdroid, CSipSimple.
I am not sure how it affects the forum disposition, but if you thought you didn't have enough impossible problems before, get yourself a shiny Nexus 7 LTE... There's a reason for it being late.

not sure what you are implying here, but i have one for almost a week now, it is awesome, and it is flawless. even stock 4.3 rooted is not that bad, i would like to have some options though.
It's been announced that all operator versions will be identical (ATT, Sprint, Verizon, etc.). That is something different from the previous N7. So maybe, just maybe someone should try ROM compatibility with Flo (Wifi). If that works out (minus LTE hardware drivers) we won't need a separate forum. And the development would be much better in total as a result of having way more devices....it'd be cool to pick a WiFi rom and flash it on an LTE, and then just flash the LTE module...oh the possibilities....
i tried different flo images on my deb n7 and it doesn't work. it's not booting, it gets stuck at the x. only way to make it work again was flashing an deb image again. so i think a sub forum for deb would be nice
Yeah, good idea. The old Nexus 7 has a dedicated sub-forum for the 3G version too. It makes finding stuff much easier.

I am referring to the Nexus 7 LTE having a seven-band LTE radio. It's the first device anytime, anywhere I know of to have such a complex radio.
I am also referring to the enormous possibilities this offers Nexus 7 LTE owners, which will compel them to try things never tried before. Take the tinkering with a Galaxy Nexus. Now triple it.
---------- Post added at 12:12 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:37 AM ----------
Apparently the Nexus 7 LTE went on sale over-the-counter in Germany and Australia on 8/29:
Asutralia: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/114844
Germany: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZ0iXzQNckI
Note that there are two versions with different LTE bands.
The EU model is for everywhere outside the US, which would be 95% of the world's telecom. "EverUwhere"
So Google/ASUS launches the US model after the EU model.
Apparenly ASUS has a 16 GiB LTE model that Google isn't selling yet https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nexus_7_(2013_version)#Model_variants
well, i guess this means searching for us LTE owners then...

I got an LTE model in Europe on 2 Sept, and I really would like to have a sub-forum, since browsing the normal one and trying to find stuff for the LTE one is just driving me crazy.
Actually, you can find this device in Europe (Germany and Italy, maybe Poland or Romania but I'm not sure).
And we wait soon this version in UK and France nearly.
And it's my next device
And as you know you can request to open this subforum as N7 3G here: *** New Device Forum Requests ***
This would be a great idea. Keep the wifi only and LTE ROMs in different sections.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using xda app-developers app
Good idea. Otherwise, I'll need to constantly remind myself to be mindful if the ROM or update is for the wifi only, or LTE.
Otherwise, another possible option would be to append the beginning of each post with a [WIFI] , [LTE] or [GENERIC] depending on which flavour it belongs to.

Forum for the device is already created, we just need a subforum for LTE version, pretty basic considering the old model got one as well! Why they didn't create it at the start is a mystery to me.

Sorry, but you have not understood what I meant or I misspoke.
I meant that it would be better to use the normal way to request the opening of a sub-forum in the thread provided for it => *** New Device Forum Requests ***
I know that the forum, for this device, has been created and we have use the normal way to open a sub-forum for the N7 3G.
I know that the admins will open a sub-forum 2013 N7 for LTE very soon. Don't be afraid

thanks for the hint. so basically the (not-original) development forums are the useless ones, that could as well be deleted all together. or stuff that is OK and useful, but on an arbitrary scale not "original" enough.
so basically i have to look in both subforums all the time to find something interesting. way to go, xda. and i thought they were back on a better path...
