Interview with Sprint on Friday - a few questions for any Sprint employees - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello. I have an interview with Sprint on Friday for a job as a Retail Consultant. I figured i would be great for the job because I have a background in sales, a big fan of Sprint and an even bigger fan of cell phones. I am very excited for the job opportunity. Was just wondering first if there was any advice any current or previous employees could give me on getting hired or do's or dont's or w/e (or any other advice regarding employment by Sprint). Second not to get ahead of my self but was also just wondering what benefits or discounts (ie free lines or early upgrades) I would receive with the job. Any replies would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

2) $29.99 Free & Clear Plan, 3000 minutes, Unlimited Text, and Data, but no subsidized devices. However, Sprint Rewards Me Plus allows you to buy a new phone every 6 months for the discounted price off-contract.
1)...Don't get mad

As much of a gadget whore as I am I should really consider a second career as a Sprint employee.

Thanks for replying
Ummm and I am applying at a corporate store. What kind of discounts on phones do you get?

I would Love to work for sprint, I guess I should focus on getting a job first somewhere else lol, I guess perhaps after I finish culinary school this summer I could work on getting a job at sprint somewhere, sometime in the next year lol

I couldn't have put it better myself lol.

Good luck. I wish I could give you a reference but everyone I know at Sprint works at the corporate office and not in retail. So, the only time you would see them is when you read the name of the person who signs you checks.
But seriously, everytime you look up something on the computer you can thank my Mom. She designed the storage systems.

I wanted to apply a year ago but I was and still am in high school so I don't have a high school deploma

I have been thinking about my skills and I that if I'm in sales then I have to love what I sell. Well I love cell phones so I think that would be cake for me since I can talk non stop about them. Question is though how viable of the career is this for someone in their mid twenties, have a three year old son, on his own... Etc... Basically is a job at the sprint store a viable option for a career for me? Or is it more of a high school thing?
Sorry for derailing te thread btw. Hope you get the job!

We get the normal 20 month upgrades since our plan is free. Can only be purchased through Sprint's employee websites. Not difficult to save up for a phone though, considering 5-6 months of not paying a phone bill = MSRP for a phone.

This is all good info! Im applying at Sprint as we speak!

You're not interviewing in Cranberry, PA are you?

you get two year pricing (no MIR) once per year on handsets, and free service for your personal line. (EDRP)
You get 25% off of accessories, and up to 20 advantage club lines.
I worked at sprint for almost 3 years, I now work at Chase, but you should be happy with the position as long as you dont mind retail hours and holidays, and dealing with the most demanding (and arrogant) customers in retail. Lol

They stopped the 6month offer when the iphone came out now everybody gets the same 20 months no matter what.

I went through 3 total interviews with sprint trying to get a job there. Each one went great, but ultimately never got the final call back.

I am a father of 3 and the does not work and I make enough to pay our bills in california of all places , so I would have to say it is a viable career, remember that if you do get hired this is corporate and they take care of us better than you average commission based 3rd party retailer benifits 401k stock investment and yes a free personal line for yourself + 30 advantage lines for freinds and fam.
Pretty Viable, but in sales it is about your own skill and dedication that makes it that way.

I'm not surewhat the true differences between corporate and preferred are as I seemingly get what all the corporate wigs get and more at my indirect store. Except for the advantage plus plan lol but truthfully I don't believe I would use it.

Edit: as for advice, if your hired as a tech, make sure to pitch ready now as hard as sales...it doesn't as matter as much for techs but still impresses the company. And csat is verrry important

No they didn't you can still upgrade every six months through Sprint rewards me plus. But they only have select phones. I just ordered a phone last week.

Sprint Career Thread

Seeing as I know many of you work at Sprint, I thought we could have a Q and A thread for people looking to apply our what not.
On another note, I was wondering what the requirements were as far as age and school goes, also what any service reps or phone salesman can expect to make when first starting out? And finally, what are everyones opinions?

I use to be a lead cell site technician and loved it, started at $18/h at age 20. I miss that job
I wouldn't work for sprint, go work for T-Mobile the commission (plus hourly) is better.....im not even being a smartass that's a serious statement. I got hired at tmo at 19, worked there 4 years while doing undergrad. Your phone bill is 15 bucks a month per line unlimited everything. Won over 300 phones and made about 37k a year; thats alot for a college student. Stopped when I graduated and got hired for the state. I have friends that work for tmo and sprint both managers and reps and they're all in transition to switch to tmo and leave sprint. Im sure location plays a huge role but I'd recommend tmo and this is based on experience and facts from my sprint friends.

I really am considering applying for a job, I'm more then qualified and usually know more then the employees that are on the job when I'm there. (sold a nexus and evo in 20 minutes today when I was browsing the store) but I'm not sure what the policy is as far as older high school students. I've been pushing off a job for a while because I really don't want too work in some fast food joint. Blehh.

Ohh nevermind then. I don't know if they would employ a high school student simply because they probably don't get out early enough. Usually those stores operate from about 9am(or 10)-9pm on weekdays and 12-6pm on Sunday. I used to get out of class Monday though Friday at about 1pm and they had me work 2 to 9 or 10pm. Wireless isn't very flexible with high school. I hope you get hired with one because you'll love that job I know I miss wireless.

Thanks for the advice, I think the best option would be to just go down and see what can be done, im friends with several of the people who work in that particular store. Im more then capable of getting myself there and a 3 to 10 pm shift would be no problem whatsoever considering im out by 2.
I work for a Sprint Preferred Retailer. Pay is a bit lower, but we also don't do as much as a corporate location.
I actually like being a tech more than a rep. Sure, I piss off more people, but I generally don't have to interact with as many, since I'm not constantly on the floor.

Do it man, if you're a natural salesman its promised you will have great potential in retail (wireless). Some people have it some don't; I've watched coworkers in the past simply fail because they couldn't leave their "fingerprint" with customers and build a loyal base. Networking goes a long way in wireless also. If you sold two android phones in the sprint store and you don't even work there then you might be the "chosen" one lol.

Hahaha gracias man. I tend to interact well with informing individuals well in those stores because nothing frustrates me more then seeing someone buy a POS based on an uninformed decision and then a month later be upset with their pick and be talking bad about a service/manufacturer or even Android as whole. Besides my love is Android and its devices and the good thing about sprint is I see it as being the carrier that will continue to stock itself with bleeding edge, top of the line devices. They really are Android pioneers and the fact that they have such good relations with both HTC and Google is a major plus when considering their future.
would a 17 year old high school going to be a senior qualify I was thinking working at radioshack or maybe best buy but sprint wouldn't be bad

I've seriously considered working for Sprint or T-Mo as well, but wouldn't it be a fair assumption to think that if (or when) the AT&T acquisition happens, most of the T-Mo employees would be in for some negative changes?
Suffice it to say, AT&T runs their business in a seemingly very different...and not in a good way to neither its customers or employers.
I feel like T-Mo might already be gearing towards shady practices what with them releasing certain phones recently and then raising their prices, and also the new whole 2GB of 3G a month data plan is ludicrous in my opinion.
Would employees also be subject to the same sort of plan as customers, or do they make exceptions?
i think i should chime in here since i worked for T-mobile for 5 years and i am currently working for a sprint certified dealer.
i LOVED T-Mobile when i started there. as someone poster previously it was ideal for a college student. i was clearing $38,000/yr with great benefits, flexible hours, a cheap phone bill for myself and both parents, plus i won tons of free phones. keep in mind that a lot of my pay was commission based and some reps who worked more than i did made a bit less. that sort of thing will always vary i guess. the revenue i brought in every year increased exponentially but my take home pay got less and less. i quit about 4 months ago after realizing that i made $23,00 in the previous 12 months. All while bringing in more and more money for the company! the commission structure seems to change every few months and access to commission information got more and more scarce.
Two days later AT&T announced their purchase of T-Mobile.
Im sure people at different stores and different areas could offer you a totally different story than what i just told you. pay scales range throughout the country based on average cost of living. I would always see a lot of newer employees who totally loved the job. So maybe you would too. I guess my point is T-Mobile was an amazing place to work. Now most of the longer tenured employees in my market have split or are trying to split.
The Sprint position is strictly business sales so its a much different position with a much broader pay scale. It's also a preferred dealer so my wages/responsibilities are dictated by the family that owns the dealership and not some corporate big wig sitting in an office that i will never meet.
just my two cents. youre on the right track though. see if you can talk to any sprint/tmobile employees in your area. im sure they would give you an honest response about their feelings on the job. good luck!
Thanks for the insight. The one thing I don't like is that whenever I've asked about a job for Sprint, for instance, they always just tell me to apply at the website, where you're subjected to a 30+ minute survey, and then you have to submit a resume and whatnot.
While I understand having to do that, it just seems so formal, you know, I wish I could get more personal experience talking to a supervisor/manager or whatnot, so I could be remembered, and then submit a resume, because otherwise, I feel like I'm a name in a big bucket with little chance of being picked.
I've had over 7 years of steady retail experience, I frequently browse and post on the xda and the androidforums.com, and read tech blogs like engadget, arstechnica and others. I know a lot about phones, though specially Android.
It's hard to get something like that across by simply taking a survey and submitting a resume.

NO option to buy full price on a no commit plan for a new customer?

Is this a Sprint thing?
I just called two corporate stores and they said that a new customer can't buy the phone for full retail price without a 2 year contract.
In other words, you must sign a two years contract if you are a new customer.
Can anyone here confirm this?
Go here

Then goto the Samsung Epic 4G Touch order page and you can get it at full price.

Not sure if that is the correct answer, there is an Sprint employee in the Evo 3d forum that said yes.

Thanks all for the replies. What is the ETF on this phone ? It might end up costing the same as full retail price.

I AM a Sprint employee. I deal with it every single day. Even if someone buys a phone off Ebay, some guy off the street, or buys it in the store, there is going to be a two year agreement. The ETF is going to be 350 for the first six months and starts to decrease from there. If you are going to get one, you may as well get the discounted price.

Im not saying that you are wrong, but this a an example of what customers have to deal with. One rep state one way, then the other rep.....

Funny thing is, when the OG EVO came out, i bought from craigslist and was able to activate it on a month to month plan as a new customer while i was not able to get the same if would buy it at the Sprint store. but i think i got lucky that time and that Sprint policy is really to have a 2 year agreement regardless of the amount you buy the phone at.
The questions is what is the ETF. it might come out the same if i buy it for $199 and pay an ETF when i want out. i never keep a phone more than a few months and i have zero carrier loyalty. Sprint is the only carrier that does not allow month to month contracts it seems.
hold on hold on ... lol
you are wanting to buy a phone at full price then activate as a new customer without a contract??? on month to month? dont know about that one... i totally misread your post and thought you were already a customer and thought this guy was really giving you bad advice to be a sprint employee but now that i reread your post his answer sounds about right... sorry dude
Actually...they are both right. There is a new thing called business freedom. Which is where if you open a new business account with a federal tax ID, you can get this new plan that is a no contract commitment deal. If you interested in more information PM me so we can further discuss this.
Just come tome from now on with all your Sprint needs
Yeah, but you have to have a business and it is more expensive every month since there is no contract. Unless you actually have a business with seasonal employees I really wouldn't recommend it. If you get a new Tax ID just for this, you are GOING to have a deposit. You could run a blended credit but that might only knock it down fifty bucks. Sprint may also want proof that it is a real business so they may need bank statements with the business name, so you have to have a few months worth of that. Would you really want to go through all that just to pay more every month anyway? The average consumer would do best just to sign the contract.

You might be able to find a friend who wants out of their contract and are near the end of it. Well, right now they can get out for free...
In all seriousness. I wouldn't mind helping someone out if I ever lost one of my members in my family plan. Charge them something like 30 dollars +10 dollar for smart phones and I wouldn't hold you to a 2 year contract if you brought your own phone to use.
That's actually a very good idea. If you pay full price you don't have to sign a contract if you put the phone on an existing line. Maybe you could find someone who wants to switch to your current provider from Sprint and you could just take over each other's lines.

Sprint launches early upgrade promo

In an industry where customer churn can be likened to the fearsome troll under the bridge, Sprint has launched a program designed to keep its favored subscribers around for another two years. While not everyone is eligible -- those who've upgraded less than eight months ago, corporate outfits and those in collections need not inquire -- the program lets customers buy their way out of their current commitment and become eligible for a new, subsidized handset. The promotion begins February 12th and is set to run through the 14th of April, where the amount you pay correlates to the time since your last upgrade. So if you're currently pining for the Epic 4G Touch or the iPhone 4S, just give your local Sprint store a call this Sunday. They just may be able to hook you up.

IMO opinion this is more of a contract buyout to get new user pricing than it is an early upgrade promo like the Sprint Premier Gold program was.
It makes 0 sense to pay $55 to buy out for early upgrade if you're like 1-4 months out.

Keep in mind though, that we live in a world where people will happily spend well in excess of $55 to "upgrade" from something like a IPhone 4 to a 4s. Sometimes, "sense" takes a back seat to a desire to be instantaneously satisfied... lol

I have to agree, people at my store will pay a lot to get their upgrade now to get the phone they want now. I think a lot of it comes from people who buy cheap phones and just can't take having them anymore and will do anything to get out of that phone.

This actually isn't a promotion. It's just a last resort offering by Retention as of right now. You pay on average $10/month remaining on your contract with an average maximum of 6 months to move your upgrade up. We've been doing it for months for customers in my stores, but it's never really been publicly advertised.

My wife is only 2 months away from an upgrade; if she waits, she still pays 36 dollars "activation fee", or, if she does it tomorrow, its the same 36 dollars, so, if you are a month or 2 away, it doesn't cost you a dime more to do it now..
yes, i am sure its to clean out the existing inventory before the "new" network is in full swing..
WOOT, 3000 POSTS!!
I work at a preferred dealer as well, just tell your customers to call customer care and see if they can do an early upgrade. If that doesn't work have them be transferred to retentions and say someone they know was able to buy out their remaining contract and get an early upgrade. That easy. I have my upgrade still, saving it for the GSIII because I'm not stupid like some people.

i have an airave for that
Ok I called Sprint customer care today inquiring about the upgrade. My girl's line is due for upgrade in October and I am tired of her complaining about her Evo3d restarting all the time. So I called to see if I can get that upgrade for an Iphone for her. I was told that the new promo is only for people who's upgrade is in April or earlier and are also having phone issues. I think I'm going to call a corporate store tomorrow. Any advice or am I wasting my time? The Engadget article said if you upgraded within the last 8 months your or not eligible. I didn't upgrade this line within the last 8 months.
To upgrade or not to upgrade....
I saw this on Friday and wandered into a Sprint store on Sunday. The fella at the desk told me this was all legit and that I would need to call customer service because he could not do anything from the store (he said to ask for the "retentions" department).
I've been suffering with a Hero for the last 18 months. Loved the phone when I first got it, but it didn't take long to realize that it was not powerful enough to keep me happy. My wife is on her third Moment because everything about that phone just doesn't seem to work. I was hoping to hold out for an LTE phone but it appears those won't be dropping until late summer, and I'm not sure if we can hold out that long.
On the Sprint website, I get a message that I am eligible for $150 off a new phone on April 1 (remnants of the Premiere Program). From what I read, I'll have to pay $36 to upgrade in April or I can pay $55 now.
So my question(s) to all you Sprint people out there, am I reading all this correctly? Will I still qualify for the $150 off the new phone? Am I absolutely crazy for not waiting for LTE? Should I take the SGS2E4GT (Galaxy S 2) or hold out for the Nexus?
Thanks for the input.

I would buy a used phone off Craig's list or something now and hold onto you upgrade for an LTE device. You can get an E4GT for around $300 and EVO 3D for much less or an Nexus 4G for even less then that.
That is what I would do because once the GN drops you know you will want it or whatever cool LTE phone comes out soon after that...
The way I read this is that they are just pro-rating your ETF (the way they all should do anyway).
In theory, it works like this:
A high end handset costs ~$600 but in exchange for signing a 2-year contract, the cell phone carrier will subsidize $400 of the cost and roll the cost of that "loan" into the cost of your monthly service. You get a new phone without as large an initial outlay of cash and they gain a steady source of income for at least the next 2 years.
In theory you should be able to bring your own phone and get service at a lower cost off-contract because you aren't paying off a subsidy but since the top 3 providers don't offer this, there is not really any benefit to not taking the subsidy. You are already paying the same monthly rate so other than not being locked into a service contract, you gain nothing financially from not taking the $400 subsidy.
Along with this, in theory, your ETF should drop by 1/24th every month as you are basically paying off the subsidy one month at a time over two years. Once again, it doesn't quite work that way. At least this is an attempt to let people pay off the remaining subsidy before signing a new contract and taking a new one.
I would prefer to just pay $600 for my phone and then pay $17 less per month (approx 1/24 of $400) with no contract but since the US market seems accustomed to cheaper subsidized handsets on contract I don't know it would ever take off much. The contracts, handset exclusives, and lack of porting options have made it so the carriers have little incentive to compete on price or plan options..but that's another topic for another day.
Well I got mine it was 40 bucks but.my Gf needs a new phone had so, iPhone 4s and she can have my day 2week old epic touch 4g
Update: I got my upgrade and the fee was added to my bill and my upgrade is now waiting. Pretty cool. I have another upgrade in August so I will se what they have then.

I have a upgrade in October, but I'm debating to hold off for the s3 which could be a long way off or get the epic touch. I have a 3d right now but the white epic touch looks sexy.

ET4G Amazon :O

I really doubt this is thread worthy :O but I had to tell someone. Lol frustrated that both my girlfriend and I paid $200 for our Epics...
then today I convinced my aunt and uncle (with 2 daughters) to join sprint....
they got FOUR of our phones for $.04 :O
Why would Amazon be doing this? Is it just because the Nexus is coming out?
Well anyone who has friends thinking about Sprint looks like now is the time
Damn, I got my white e4gt for $99 a month ago. Well, eventual savings pale in comparison to the monthly rate. I do admit, it is a steal.
I wouldnt mind getting a nexus s for a penny, but I'm all out of upgrades. My guess is Amazon is dumping their Wimax inventory phones because sprint is moving to LTE.
I got mine for a penny back in November. Amazon randomly has sales where they sale Sprints 4G phones for a penny.
Not for upgrades, sadly. Just checked. New customers only. Makes me sad that people who haven't given Sprint a penny have all the best offers, while the loyal customers (been with Sprint since '99) are left in the dust.
I been with sprint like 10 years too. I got this phone for a penny. I closed my originl line and opened a new 1 and got it ^^ #WIN!

Not only that, but they make you pay them extra to upgrade. Apparently swapping out an esn on their server is a lot of work!

Yeah that pisses me off. I don't understand that. They should take care of current customers to.
If anyone needs any help with the epic touch hit me up on Gtalk @musclehead84

agreed 100%...
Upgrade fee is the same as an activation fee.
As for pricing on new lines, it usually is only third parties that offer better deals for new line vs upgrades, which makes sense because they get paid more from Sprint on a new line. Corporate does it sometimes, usually only on eol devices as a way to clearance them out. Like it or not, every carrier spends more money to attract subs than they do to keep the ones they already have.

I sincerely need to thank the OP here. I bought mine this past Thursday for $49.99, which considering that Sprint charges $199 with the 2 yr contract, thought it was a fantastic deal. I got my phone on the mail yesterday night and still have to activate it, but when I saw this thread today, I called Amazon and told them that I wanted to have a price match as I had purchased this thing less than 3 business days ago. Long story short, they agreed and I am getting $49.98 back...
I am one happy camper right now
Thanks OP!
Amazon has all of the Sprint WiMax devices for sale at 1-cent a piece, new customers or new lines only. If you ask me, it's because of A) They have an abundance of WiMax devices in stock and they know WiMax is going to be fazed out and don't want a surplus or B) Their Sprint sales have taken a slump. Plus, remember that a deal on a phone for a consumer may lead to increased accessories with with the purchase.

WTF...Sprint??? No Deals??

So, I'm not sure that I should be blaming Sprint or not on this one, but as far as I can see, someone has to be blamed. I am currently running with my good ol' GS1...Yes, the OG Galaxy S1 (Epic) on Sprint. I am all set to upgrade and have been waiting patiently for Black Friday.
SOOO... I have been checking the leaked ads as well as checking with stores, connections, forums, whatever....and everyone (AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon) is giving away their GSIII phones on black friday through a bunch of different retailers (Sams, T-Mobile site, Wal-Mart, Radio Shack).....all except for Sprint!
Yes...I have seen it as low as $49 in Best Buy (Allegedly, after waiting in line for 5 hours), but why not Free??? I'm not trying to make a big deal out of it, but sh!t, Sprint....not for nothing, but I don't even have a good argument for you anymore.
I used to brag to my friends about the unlimited data that I had...at less of a cost than their 'Throttled' T-Mobile data, but my 'Full Speed' downloads are slower than their throttled speeds. I think should be doing everything they can to increase their customer load...since in the past 4 years, their service has gone to crap. I have been a loyal customer for over 10 years and right now I wish I didn't have other family members on the plan that were tied to contracts. They are the only thing keeping me with Sprint right now.
Ok...Off my Rant box..............
Anyone else have anything to say? Did I miss the invitation to the 'FREE' party? Should I not be *****ing about this? As far as I know, you all probably didn't get a free phone either, so I am sorry if I sound a little...*****y. I guess my question would be....Why stay with Sprint? (Maybe just looking for a little reassurance)
Sprints customer service ratings are pretty good. We have better cheaper plans. You could go get the free phone and pay more for less but you probably won't or you wouldn't still be on the og epic. Pay the 50 bucks and lose the entitlement so we can keep our data unlimited. Seems like a small price to pay.

Ya but $0.96 is a bigger steal. And only thing they really have to keep their customer base is a promise of awesome 4g ln the coming months. Question is, is that enuf for u to Stay? All while you pay for a premium data add on for 1x type speed. If tmo had the uncapped unltd data in june u better believe I'd be with them instead right now. I get where the op is comin from. Granted sprint may still come out with something nice for black Friday considering the value of this phone seems to be plummeting thanks to the note ii
My .2 cents
Update....Sams did put the GS3 on sale last night for $.96 with free activation. Good job.

we are looking to get 2 more S3's on black friday. because of our plans we must use a sprint corporate store.
has anyone got any details on their black friday deal? will it be whats in stock only? can we order it? (we don't mind waiting we just want the $50 price tag) ie how is it going to work on black friday? is there going to be like 10 and we have to be the first 10 in line?

U can get it for $50 on sprint.com on black Friday so I'd assume u could order it at the store. I guess if they wouldn't let u order it there u could do it online or by phone if your account allows it.

Hell for $49 why *****. You could have paid my price of $455 instead. I bought mine new on ebay. I still can upgrade next yr for a better phone. Because this one replace my evo design an did not have to sign a new contract.
Why would you think that a phone that's been out for 3 months should be free?

Entitlement, lol. $50 is a hell of a deal on the sgs3, even if some places are selling it for .96, I got mine free but would have gladly paid full price for it.

People.... always thinking they're entitled to something. Did we forget Sprint is decommissioning iden, creating a whole new network through network vision and adding lte all at the same time? Pay your $50 and quit crying. Trade in your phone and boom its $0. /thread

this is a capitalist environment so we literally are entitled to anything we can get our lawful fingers on
I tend to like to add some morals to that but morality and capitalism don't mix to well IE they take advantage of it and rape you.
I paid NOTHING for my 2 S3's - I made 2 Iphone 5 droolers pay for it for me hehe
EVERY CARRIER that your local Sam's Club carries will have the sg3 for .96 cents on black friday.. yes EVERY CARRIER! so if you local Sam's Club carries the sg3 for sprint then it will be .96 cents on black friday..

I sent an update reply. I did see that they had it for $.96. I'm not greedy or feel entitled. I was simply wondering why every other carrier had it for $.96. Why is that so out of line? Would anyone willingly pay $50 more for the EXACT same device just so they wouldn't have a feeling of entitlement or so that they could say that they weren't complaining?
well part of the problem is that we live in a very selfish society if we can't have something we get upset if anybody else can get it so for example if you paid 100 dollars you might be annoyed at anyone else getting it for 50 dollars so you would complain about their position or claim there entitled because they are potentially getting a better deal than or desiring a better dealg or if you would want to get that better deal you wouldn't be complaining that your part of the nature of human beings
you also see a little bit of if I can't have it neither should you mentality
our society is based around on getting the most you can at least you can and we massively overpay for cellular service in this country so we tend to look for the best deal we can get
this further create animosity when someone else manages to get a better deal than you did so we complain about it
Is normal and natural don't let it bother you
