we can't increase internal memory by cwm (lol)
its a matter of personal reference. basicly they work in similar method which is using 2nd sdcard ext partition as an expansion for internal memory. the differences are:
link 2sd-->use symlink to the app and dex file. (doesn't increase internal memory. its only make a shortcut for all app for save more space)
a2sd darktremor-->mount 2nd partition as /dalvik-cache or /data
my kernel (data-2sd)--> mount 2nd partition as /data.
dualboot kernel-->load different OS and /data increase internal memory.
positive side
link2sd-->easy to use
a2sd darktremor-->so many customization, not only increase internal memory
data-2sd-->completely change /data partition. more stable
dualboot-->completely change /system and /data partition. we can have two rom in one device.
negative side
link2sd-->not really stable. app may lose if link2sd gone.
a2sd darktremor-->not friendly use. not really stable
data-2sd-->need custom kernel and fast sdcard
dualboot-->need custom kernel, fast sdcard, and a modified rom for 2nd rom.
it's a matter of personal reference. link2sd is easiest to use while dualboot is the most difficult one.

make sdcard partition. then?
btw, @ahsher, you can put these script into build.prop file to increase speed.

Need Help
I've been using Creeds Rom v2.0 with the bootanimation.zip_FIX and 14 toggles and used ChobitsDigital Monochrome Skin.
Also A2SDGUI with Tema_Kernal since the kernal was released.
my phone got almost 200+ application and mostly are games including HD and experience no force close after deciding not to use DSPManager since it always ForceClose for whatever reason so i used volume+.
when i go to A2SDGUI and selected on ' Apps are on internal Storage! ' and selected YES, the small bar at the button never turns to green like the Zipaligned on boot.
i successfully flash my backup stock kernel with odin as PDA and the kernel verison was updated for DXLB after checking on Setting > about phone.
i re-flash again terma kernel with odin successfully and still A2SDGUI wont work.
(i switch kernels for DDLA, DXLB and Terma) all flash was done in ODIN and Kernel version always get updated after successful flash.
as you can see on titanium back-up screenshot, it doesn't indicate the 4 line for my sd-ext2 which is 1GB.
i need help please. . .

can u see this @hitme987 ... ??? Hope u can read it .. or use google translator .. it will be much better ...

[ROM] Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 (CM7 for noobs Mod based on CM-7.1 RC-3.0)

What Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 really is? It is Cyanogen for Noobs Mod based on CM7.1 RC3.0 for gio. Yes like its name, it designed for easy and very user friendly purpose. The basic idea I build the latest CM7.1 RC.3.0 ported by phiexz (as I think it's already final or likely will be no more update) and compiled it with the all good things here covered almost all the potentially frustrating common issues to make it as stable as it can be for daily uses basis. I do some few mods but may slightly unnoticeable. It is not a custom-rom. I didn’t change the interface and such. I just want to keep it as original as the origin. The most noticeable thing I did may just enabled bootsound. The rest are minor (but of course important!). OK, let put it simply now all you have to do Just Flash and Play*.
*still there is a pre-condition and some optional follow up action below
Here some features Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 offers:
• Latest port CM7.1 RC.3.0 with the all working features (credit to phiexz & squadzone)
• preinstalled gapps (credit to Msiiek)
• avoid false reformatting sd-ext by cwm-recovery issue when flashing (credit to waqasshahzad1986)
• enabled bootsound (customizable ready)
• fix split screen issue
• S2E ready (no need to mod or reformatting sd-ext partition again)
• avoid potentially market causes reboot issue
• avoid potentially installing application causes reboot issue
• use market 2.3.6 as a default (but still updateable and offer you more optional action)
• fix some other minor common issues
• just flash & play
• noobs, start your 'en-gio-ne'! and say "eat my dust" to your old migraine!!

HOW TO INSTALL
WARNING: Dragons Ahead!
But don’t worry the dragon has been tamed. Even dragon is still a dragon, so still don’t be careless & follow the instruction carefully.
First, make sure the pre-conditions fulfilled:
• have any GB 2.3.3 or upper on your device (or any CM7 rom).
• Already made sd-ext partition on your sd-card (and make sure don’t ever let cwm-recovery touch it reformatting again!), recommended use ext4, more over if want to activated S2E (optional). Don't know how to create partition? Go to mr.waqasshahzad1986 section first, believe me he is your best guide here.
• Have cwm-recovery 5.x (recommended px-cwm or px-cwm-v2). You don't have any yet? Please visit mr.phiexz for CM-7.1 RC-3.0 & cwm 5.x section where this rom originally ported.
• Downloaded Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 zip file copied onto your sd card.

Click to collapse
Download Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 here:
Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1.zip
Installation:
• Just Flash & Play!* via cwm-recovery 5.x (press & hold Home+Power button to enter recovery mode)
*no need to wipe or mount anything, install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sd card > CyanoobsMod-7.1.3.1.zip > Yes-Install
• And you just officially 'noobed'! (I mean you already have Cy4noobsMod-7.1.3.1 on your device).
*always recalibrate your battery after flashing any rom!!

easy right?
Optional follow up action:
1. Market
If you want to keep market 2.3.6 as your market and don’t want to get any updated, open terminal emulator (pre-installed with your CM7) and type this:
su
pm disable com.android.vending.updater
Click to collapse
that will disabled your market updater, but you still can enable it anytime if you decided want to get updated. just change the “disable” type to “enable” with the rest script are still the same.
recommended!! do this as soon as possible after flashed before you got updated automatically. if you already updated just uninstall the new market at "setting>applications>manage applications" and hurry type the script or you can activate flight mode so you will not get updated.
You can ignore all the things from the beginning if you want your market soon get updated (you will get your market updated automatically as long as your internet keep active)
2. Activated S2E (sd-ext ext4 needed!)
• Download S2E from market
• Open it and open its menu, setting, checklist all.
• Buffer size value better leave it as default (there is a chance S2E would repel the partition if set more than 256KB)
• Back, open menu again, choose reboot (usually it won’t reboot at your first time, so you may reboot it manually).
• after reboot open S2E again and checklist all (recommended leave the "application data" still uncheck, but you may check it if you want ap2sd extreme activated).
• open menu, choose reboot again (at this time it should be worked).
• and yes now you have your CM7 with S2E activated.
Click to collapse
You can ignore all the things if you want try any other app2sd like link2sd (even I think it ported optimized with S2E).

Issues:
• There’s a known bug on gio that it can’t be helped. Cwm-recovery have a habit to reformatting your sd-ext, but it does not format the card correctly on gio. It may not harm if you not using any app to sd-ext things (S2E/link2sd/ app2sd/… or etc), but it does if you do. That’s why I warn you to avoid cwm-recovery ever touching your sd-ext (ex:wipe/format/restore/...etc). Just format your sd-ext partition into ext4 only using your computer. If you want to do any recovery backup-restore things better use any other apps, like Titanium Backup maybe (sorry it may just my limitation, hope the other dev here can help us there).

Notes:
• As it actually designed for noobs, please be wise to use it as it be. Please, don’t try to do silly things to your rom. Don’t try improvised things that some thing to do with your rom like modding or added tweaks. It may ruined your rom (conflict tweaks caution) and please don’t blame me for that. Customize it will be very welcome as long as not touch that area.
• Sure advance users will always have privileges to do sort things (with notes they knew well the risks. sorry noobs, i'm not being double standard here. i'm a noob too anyway). Feel free to have a try my rom for test its stability sir… your reviews would be really very very appreciated.

guys i learned & did some little test about gps setting n tweaks... my self conclusion about it gps is very so depend on location (ex:like the country where we live)... it's hard to generalized the issue... some specific setting/tweak can be optimized on some specific location, but can ruined on the other specific location...
so far i have no problem with the current gps, so i just leave it as it is (with the thoughts it's the best default setting)... i won't counted it as an issue as long there is no report so far...

yeah guys... actually there is "an issue"... not with the rom but the s2e itself... (sorry, actually i'm new too to this s2e things)
sometimes there is a chance s2e repel the partition if the buffer size value set default changed... so better just leave it as default... i''ll edited the s2e activation step...
oh yeah u can try some custom kernel from Delanoister, use the kernel for CM-7.1...

[Q] Merruk tech. kernel 2.0

in merruk 2.0 kernel , what do you mean ext4. is i hv to format my sdcard with this ext4 or its only for sdcard 2 partion....is its faster than fat32. what is ....
It doesnt format sd card..it makes the data and cache partition to ext4 ..you dont need to format your sd card to ext4 either...but it wipes the data and cache partition so that any installed apps, data etc..will be lost..

[Q] Two Quick questions

Hello ,
My last ROM problem was solved and I know have CM9 ROM .
But I noticed that the files on my sd card are still there ,and I want a Clean start .
I am used that they are deleted whenever I made a ( Reset to factory settings ) as I was making always before thinking to Root and make Custom ROM ,
I just wanted to know what would happen if I Made a ( Reset to factory settings ) from the settings menu ,
ofcourse I know my backup that I have on the internal card will be deleted but :
Will I lose the Root ?
Will I lose the Custom ROM and go back to the original ROM ?
The second question is , I heard before that I can share some space from my external sdcard to my internal sd card , is that really possible by any method ?
Sorry for long topic .
Any one ?
Search on the W forum for a thread by @pepoluan about 'pristine' wiping your phone....it will help you achieve the 'fresh start' that you want....and yes, unless you move your nandroid to alternative storage, you will probably lose it.
And as far as I remember, CM9 has the option to swap storage mounts which will allow you to use your external micro SD card as phone storage......
Find it by......
Menu>>settings>>storage>>menu>>advanced....
and then 'tick' the box against (something like) 'use SD card as phone storage' (it's been a while so I can't remember the exact wording)......

when u install custom rom basically ur stock rom (original rom) is already erased, right? so i don't think it will restore ur stock rom, u can try it though

Thank you very much keithross39 and dec0der ,
I have resetted my phone without any problems at all ,
I just have another newbie question please
I see people talking about ROMs saying for example : CM9 EOL Honeyx Kernel
I don't inderstand anything in this except CM9 , But what is EOL , and what is Honeyx Kernel ?
I downloaded my CM9 version from the official thread here
I know it is written EOL in the Title of the official thread but I don't know what it mean ? and what is the Kernel ? and what name of the kernel I use ?
EOL as far as I know simply means end of line....which means the final release or no further development.... and the kernel is just something you flash on top of the ROM which allows greater control of things like processor speed, voltage etc. Flashing a kernel *can* have it's advantages, but it is not something you *have* to do......

Yes thanks I get it .
But from your experience is flashing kernel is as risky as flashing ROMs ,and do I have to also swap my files when installing it , and if I have a CM 9 . Can I flash any kernel with the name CM9 on it and not CM10 right ?( I am sorry but indeed I was very scared to flash ROM because of the too much talk about bricking the phone ) .
When you modify your phone there's *always* going to be an element of risk.....whether that risk is higher when flashing a kernel or not, I don't know......I've always stayed with the kernel that comes with my chosen ROM. To answer another question, yes you have to use a kernel that is compatible with your ROMs OS version. As for the storage mount swap, I'm fairly certain that this is ROM controlled as opposed to kernel controlled, so you should be OK....

Thanks keithross ,
So I think I am fine with just the CM9 and no need for other kernel ( at least for now ) .
Yeah.....you can always try a kernel another time....but do yourself a favor..... read as much as you can about every kernel you are considering before you flash it.....in the same way that every ROM is different, every kernel will be different and bring different tweaks to your phone.......

First of all it´s nice to see there are still such smart noobs like you who are posting their questions in the correct section. For this you deserve a 1+
About the rest it´s like keithross already said. First become familiar with your fevorite ROM. There is still time to test all the kernels out.
All the custom kernels are supposed to incrase battery life but also have some other tweaks included. Most of them are very similar because they are using a lot of the exact same tweaks like for example the ones for battery. However there are always some differences like the amount of added tweaks.
This is because all the Developers do have slightly different priorities to what is important to tweak. Some devs are more conservative and just adding the tweaks that are really important in his opinion and are also known to work properly with all devices whereas other devs are more openminded to add some new tweaks.
However this doesn´t mean some of them are better and some of them are worse. It´s just like that. One and the same kernel can work very good on one SGW whereas it may cause some problems on a secound SGW due to the included tweaks. Therefore it´s also good to have such a wide-spread variety of custom kernels, so everyone can find out which of them works best on his device.
People should start using Google.
Go to this URL and press 'Ctrl+F' or menu button then find on phones.
Type Kernel and discover things you never knew. As keithross said, research on these kind of stuff before you flash em.
I honestly learnt mine from here but you are free to use Google.
If you use the second link, ignore any talk about sbf. Its Motorola related.
Special thanks for all of you keithross , honeyx , and idelta ...
I think I have been very familial with the CM9 and I will be reading about your kernel honeyx very soon , I want to try it first one
Thanks again

Link2SD and SD Card Partition query
I dont know if queries have to be posted here, or a new thread has to be created, Anyways, please move this post if necessary.
I want to install huge games on my Xperia M C1904 on JB 4.1 Rooted
I purchased a Sandisk UHS 16 GB Class 10 card
So far, i was managing well with GL2SD as it is really hassle free. But i want to install some games which are nearly 2 GB and for this case GL2SD cant cut it cuz of the meager internal memory of Xperia M (the moving hassle). SO i have decided to another alternative=> Link2SD with a partitioned SD card
So can anyone give me a step by step guide on how to -----
1) Partition my SD card, and can i un-partition it later? Please recomend simple methods...
2) How to use the partitioned SD card for Link 2 SD? As in what to do after partitioning the SD card into two parts...
3) What are the risks involved?
4) I want to allocate 8/14.8 GB to Games and the remaining 6.2/14.8 GB for videos and songs. As in more preference for apps and games.
I am a noob, so kindly use simple terms and assume that i am like 10 year old or something

Hello there. This is the right place to post questions. At least, keeps the forum clean.
Xperia M sure is a disappointment with internal storage, but then, that's why it runs Android.
Well, to be quite frank, Link2SD is useless in your case. What happens in Jelly Bean is very different from what happened in Gingerbread. In Gingerbread, Google made it so that the apk file and the dex file remain on your internal storage, while you could move the data of the application to an external sdcard.
What Link2SD basically does is that it links the data of the app to an external partition. On Jelly Bean, there is no option at all to move app data to sdcard. So the best bet would be for you to try the trick I mention below.
With the advent of Jelly Bean, manufacturers were already making phones with huge internal storage, so Google felt it safe to remove the option to move apps to the sdcard.
What you can do though, is to switch your internal with your external memory. You don't have to partition it that way and can install as many games or music as you want.
Your sdcard is mounted as your internal storage while your internal is mounted as the external. So now, you will have an Xperia M with 16 GB internal storage. I will put up a guide shortly on how to do that.
Be sure to use a class 10 micro sdcard though, as continuous read and write will degrade the sdcard.

I'm sorry to inform you, but the Xperia M hasn't got any support for CM as of yet. It might get in the near future, but not presently.
Also, almost all the Xperias don't have a stock recovery installed by default. That is the reason you can't get into recovery mode. You have to flash ClockworkMod Recovery before you can boot into recovery mode.

Since you are a new member of this forum, may I first welcome you here.
As gadgetroid already pointed out, we don't yet have any custom ROMs. Some work is being done, but it will take time, so please be patient. I hope you can understand that porting CyanogenMod or any other ROMs to a device is not a simple job.
Lastly, I suggest you read all the existing information on the Xperia M forum sections. They really contain a lot of useful information.
Wish you a good time here!

I've already answered a similar question, but I'll answer again.
Jelly Bean is very different from Gingerbread. App2SD was a very integral feature in Gingerbread because Google had integrated it themselves in their AOSP source code. So this meant that users didn't have to root their phones to move app data to SD and could simply use the built in feature. For users coming from Eclair or FroYo, this was a very great feature.
But by the time Google had released Honeycomb, manufacturers had already started manufacturing devices with huge internal storages (at least flagship and high end phones). This meant that Android no longer needed the App2SD feature.
Google have removed it from the source code in Jelly Bean. The data of the app can't be symlinked to another place. The only way to increase the internal storage would be to swap it with the SD card, which I am working on at the moment. Unfortunately, the usual vold.fstab edit doesn't seem to work, so I have to edit the code in services.jar.
Rest assured, I am working on this issue and will release the guide shortly.
display and camera quality
HI, this is my first post here, I need to decide to by this phone or not, could you please let me know your feedback about display and camera quality since I read lot of reviews pointing to bad camera quality (blue tint)? I that something really bad or you can live with it (my major target is to have good picture to upload on Facebook). Another option for me is to go on Desire X which is better looking but has older hardware,
Thanks in advance for your feedback!

You are using the Xperia Z swap tutorial if I'm not mistaken. If you can point me to the tutorial, I can help you a lot better.
The problem you seem to be facing is due to the naming of the partitions. On the M, the sdcard is actually mounted as a USB device instead of as an external storage. This is the reason I said that the normal vold.fstab method of swapping the memories won't work.
We have to change a few lines in the services.jar, so I'm just taking a look into that.

No. That is not so. OEMs usually never release a pure AOSP build for their phones. Most of TouchWiz is close sourced, just like HTC's Sense and Xperia's own skin is.
But, an AOSP build is in the works, so stay tuned to the forums.
Thanks in Advance OP

Xperia M is a good device. The Krait core is just an added bonus.
The Xperia M is pretty good with battery life. I get around a day on 3G (The Simpson's: Tapped Out for an hour or so, Google+ a few times during the day, Hangouts for at least 3 hours and Twitter on and off), on 2G, a day and a half. Almost all Xperia's have power management tools provided OOTB by Sony, and that's a huge plus.
The Xperia M has good potential ahead, and devs have already shown interest in compiling CM for it. Sony itself will be updating the M to 4.3 in the Q1 of 2014, so that's taken care of too.
I would choose the single SIM variant any day just for developments sake. Dual SIM has no support in AOSP. But it's ultimately up to you which variant you want to buy. Best of luck.
