[Q] Where to buy in Australia? - HTC One X

Hi,
Thinking of buying the HOX. I'm still on the good old HTC Desire running ICS
Not sure if I should just walk into AllPhones and get an Optus branded for $649 or get it online from
- expansys.com.au $576.29
- uniquemobiles.com.au ($648)
- mobicity.com.au ($649)
- mobilecity.com.au ($648)
** I'm avoiding techrific...bad experience...
Expansys seems to be the cheapest at the moment but I've never bought from them before. All the above prices don't include delivery.
Anyone got a HOX from those online retailers? Should I stay away from any of them? Never bought anything from expansys. Got some accessories once from mobicity.
Any feedback is much appreciated.

I don't live in Australia but I know expansys USA customer service sucks .. its like they only have one rep working there.

Zakdeals.com
I spent hours this week scouring the web for a HOX at < $600 including postage. I finally found one that seemed free of dodginess, and have bought mine from them: zakdeals.com
Dumb name / domain if you ask me, but they have the HOX at $599 including delivery. They're based in Sydney and when I emailed to enquire about how they handle warranty requests they responded to me within 20 minutes:
"We give you local standard 1 year warranty. For warranty issues you need to send mobile to us and we will take it to HTC service centre in Sydney. In this situation we will pay both sides postage."
They even contacted me by SMS at 8pm to double check my colour choice (black of course).
That all said, I haven't received my phone yet, but it's only been 48 hours. If it all ends happily, I'll let you know.

Wow that's pretty good. Thanks for the info amrosis I'll check them out now
Let us know when you get the phone, what's in the box and if you have any issues with it.

I went through 9 handsets with Allphones before ordering from Mobicity.
FYI mobicity currently stock handsets from Singapore with CID HTC_044 which is Asian WWE

AllPhones here. No problems to report...

I know this isn't indicative of all Allphones stores, but the store I returned my faulty screen handsets to simply cleaned them, factory reset them and put them back in to stock.
When I questioned it, they said "most customers aren't as fussy as you and wont bring them back".
Be careful.

That would be a good idea!

Firstly I wouldn't buy online because it's a major pain in the ass if you have a faulty unit you have to send it away to where you bought it from and that could take days or weeks. I originally bought my first One X from Expansys Australia but the unit was imported from HK. I had a yellow spot on the top right corner of the screen. I was gonna return it but I had to jump through all these hoops and just totally discouraged me to send it back.
I bought my 2nd One X through Telechoice around where I live for $669 and I asked the guy about their return policy and it's 28 days. So if I have any problems with the phone I can drive down the road he will give me a new replacement within 28 days. And the 2nd One X is faultless. Now I just have to sell the other handset.

Well I received my phone yesterday around Noon. it was shipped direct from HK through Fedex. In the box was everything you'd expect; the charger is not Australian, but they included an international converter along with the HTC box itself. I'm not going to use than, I havean Aussie charger that the USB cable can connect to, so it's not a big deal.
Can't detect any screen issues or otherwise but this is my first Android phones after a decade using Blackberry, so I don't know what to look for.
Only curio I have is how can I install Australian English? It seems I only have the option to select Singaporean, Malaysian, or Taiwanese English! I suppose that's a slight downside to getting an import...

I would personally spend the extra $50 and get a local phone.
I've had bad experiences ordering grey imports (international units), even when ordering through local sellers (while I only have to send the phone back locally, they have had to send it back internationally, making it a lengthy process).
^This wasn't the HOX though.
I personally got my HOX on a 24m plan with Virgin mobile; $29/m plan + $15/m for the handset with three months free. Got it the day after I ordered it without a problem . To me, you get the phone for $650 plus you get credit for 2yrs for ~$300, and you don't have to pay a big lump sum.

Yes I think I am heading in that direction. $50 extra is not that bad plus being able return it locally is a big bonus. Thanks to all who posted.

Picked mine up at an Allphones store since I wanted it same day and wanted to be able to check for any DOA defects/dead pixels before I purchased.
They seemed to have the best prices of anyone doing it instore and upfront. The Optus branding is slightly annoying but mostly unobtrusive and eventually removable.

How much was it and were they negotiable? I am 50 meters from an Allphones at the moment

I got mine from personaldigital.com.au
I've used them in the past and had good experiences with them. They have the unbranded UK model for $660 or so INCLUDING GST which is something many other don't include.

+1 on buying local.

Finally I've given in. Got the HOX from Vodafone on a 12month contract. Should arrive in a couple of days. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.

Where to buy Rhodium without contract in UK

Where can i buy Rhodium without Contract in UK. I buy HTC touch HD without contract at Carphone before but just wonder if i can buy Rhodium there too ^^. My house is quite far from it so i dont have time to go there to ask -_-
Not sure where the best buy is at the moment
Check places like Devicewire, Expansys, Clove, and Handtec I suspect they will be cheaper than Carphone Warehouse. There was a thread here about prices, but not sure if it's still active.
Good Luck!
Gordon
Hit google with the UK only radio button. There's 1000+1 places to buy from. I got mine from launch at Amazon.co.uk
The good things from carphone is u can go there to check if there is something like dead pixel on the fone before make decisions.
Last time when i bought my HD there it took me only 450 GBP for the fone while i checked at clove it was around 500 GBP -_-.
#3: I know how to search man -_-
Try eBay.
oh man ebay is not different from the other online site. If u buy it and u get smt like dead pixel on the screen u have to send it back -_-
I got mine from http://www.mobilephonesdirect.co.uk/ £434 on voda pay2go. For some reason it was cheaper than simfree. Phone is not branded or locked as using with my 3 sim.
That's a pretty good deal from mpd ... only problem I'd have with buying from them is that I've heard nightmare stories about people having probs with the phone, and mpd won't have anything to do with them...
For Sale Touch Pro 2 - Vodafone Branded
I currently got a touch pro 2 on vodafone as an upgrade but the wife had already bought me one offline.
So it is up for grabs for £375 plus £5.00 to cover royal mail registered post.
cash to be paid ia bank transfer or paypal. If paypal used then buyer to pay paypal charges.
How about handtech which advertise on xda forum. I found it quite cheap only 438 with simfree
the problem with a lot of uk sites these days is their quality control. i always buy sim free and hate it when the "new" phone arrives in an opened box, factory screen protector half off etc.. they do a **** job of putting it all back in the box after "checking contents".
i used to buy from Play but their prices aren't competitve any more and no confirmed despatch date.
try King of Gadgets. all their stuff is factory sealed and there's a really good bloke over the phone who wont muck you about.
good luck.

Thank u very much ^^ . And about handtec ? Do u have any info about them ?
no experience sorry. but I'm always weary of low prices. I think with them you still have to pay a fair amount for next day delivery. over the last few years I've learnt the hard way there's no such thing as a bargain
i've just chatted with them online and they told me that i don't have to pay any fee for nextday delivery but the problem for the dead pixel is. HTC only accepts to replace fone with more than 3 deadpixels -_- .
Handtec sell brand new and sealed phones but they are gray imports meaning no automatic network settings and detection and probably some warranty issues. This was the experience I had when I bought a Kaiser from them and when I returned it and asked for a UK spec, they simply sent the same phone back to me in a UK spec box (lol). I returned it and did a charge back when they started trying to act funny. Devicewire sell UK spec phones at the most competitive prices in my opinion.
Seriously boss. You can buy from anyone of these sellers and if you're not happy, dead pixel or otherwise then you can send it back with no obligation citing distance selling act. The common vendors like expansys, amazon etc are all good for it. Pick someone whom you trust and pull the trigger!
thank you very much. Maybe i will try with clove.co.uk kkkk

[Q] Where did you buy your HTC Desire

Well i would like to post this to have several references, on where people have bought their Desire.
I bought directly from an extremely expensive page: expansys-usa
and since i am from mexico i have to pay more to import =(
this is exactly why i wanted to open this thread
I bought mine from Clove.co.uk. They have terrible customer service, gave me the runaround for 2 weeks while they kept telling me "the phone is coming, the phone is coming" every day. It did eventually come, but I would never shop there again, nor would I recommend it to others.
clove. had no problems
Handtec.co.uk
Clove.co.uk - Very happy with the price as it was $250-$350 cheaper than buying outright in my own country! Customer service is good too.
EBay, it was £330 at the time it was £ 50 cheaper than anywhere else .the guy said it was as new buy its got scratches on the screen ,they can't be seen with a screen guard so I kept it. EBay is full of liars.

I went to the site and there was only a promo code to get a free battery with the purchase of a Galaxy Nexus. (The code was BATTERY1.) So I called telesales and was told that you had to buy or upgrade to the GNex between Aug 3rd and Aug 13th, so I wasn't eligible. Does anyone have a different code or different info?
Edit: Just called back and the lady placed the order no questions asked.

Had exactly the same experience, bought mine in May as well. Called telesales and told them that I was trying to take advantage of the free promotion on the website, but that it was making me reenter my zip code from the shopping cart and then it would make me start all over. They forwarded me onto another sales department and they processed the order for me. Just had to pay the shipping/tax. Didn't ask about 2, they weren't overly friendly. But one for ~$12 is not too shabby.

ust ordered mine as well. I didn't purchase the Nexus new, I had traded my Evo lte for it. Online when I tried to purchase the battery it kept sending me to purchase the device. Called tele sales and the said it was like $12 shipping + $1 something for tax. I explained that online it was only $6.50 shipped. So he gave me a discount...$9.66 total so I'm happy!

Got one as well through telesales. Also told them the online shipping price was $6.50. They matched it, but said it would be by ground shipping, 2-7 business days. Fine by me!
i had to call 888 876 8381 to get help and be able to get the deal. I'm not sure if everyone can use this number, but try it. I'm a EVP member and i think that's a # for EVP help.
I tired 888 882 4030 and the telesales number. Both of those those numbers wouldn't let me do the deal. 2 reps said I was not illegible because I did not buy a phone from sprint directly which was what the first guy said, and I did not but it within august 3-13 which the first and second guy said. Which are both true.
So i kept calling trying to get a representative that would let me do it because the deal says current user of the phone, which i am. This is my daily phone.
So 3rd time the a rep told me to call the 888 876 8381 so they could help me buy it online. That number could not help me buy it online, but was going to let a telesale person know i wanted to buy the battery with the promotion and i was able to receive the promotion and i needed help because online shopping was not working.
So telesale person took my information and i bought 1 for 12.95 with no issues after using the 888 876 8381.
I asked if the deal was for multiple battery's and he said no just one per deal. So cant hurt to ask because i see some people got 2 for the price of only S&H but YMMV with phone sales reps.
Hope this helps people with issues.

[Q] Best Store to Import H815 ? Need assistance from European Users!

So it seems most of the H815's on Amazon and eBay are the Asian variants and NOT the European version. The issue with this is that only the European version seems to be unlockable through LG. Codefire needs to pick up an unlockable version (although my goal is to unlock it without going through LG). I need assistance finding different stores in Europe that sell the EU H815 and also ship to USA.
So far.. possible candidates are:
www.clove.co.uk/lg-g4
http://www.glistockisti.it/lg-g4-h815-ceramic-white.html?___SID=U
Would want to spend around $650.. or €600 (or less!!)
I'm still looking of course but any suggestions would be welcomed. And again.. I do not want the Asian variant.. it must be a generic unbranded European variant... seems they coul come from UK, France, Italy, Germany... maybe more.
I'm pretty sure I have the European version as it has the unlock bootloader options. I could sell it to you for perhaps $450. Pm for details if interested

Unlock bootloader options and the steps from LG's website to unlock the bootloader are two different things.
ya we learned that the USA H815 variant is not able to be officially unlocked through the LG page.
EU carrier-variants are also not allowed. so far, UK, DEU, FRA, ITA seem to be the main countries offering the EU OPEN model.
I ordered mine from Handtec and it arrived here in NY via FedEx next day.
Ordered it on Tuesday, arrived yesterday.
It's the SIM-Free EU model.
I can confirm I've bought from clove before, not sure what their shipping to the US is like though

how much did you pay for shipping? any extra taxes since it came from UK? I've read that mobile phones shouldnt get taxed but havent gotten a solid answer anywhere.
ooh also... does it say which country yours came from? should say on the box somewhere. I emailed Handtec earlier and they said its EU model but wouldnt specify which country. for example the model from italy would say something like: "AITALD".. ITA being italy obviously. Other countries with EU OPEN I've seen are FRA UK and DEU

Hiya,
I paid £434.99 for the phone and £11.90 for the FedEx priority shipping. The total was £446.89.
A FedEx import coordinator contacted me the same day I placed the order and requested that I fill out an FCC form (740, IIRC), and with a bit of Googled advice, I did so.
After a couple of revisions, the FedEx coordinator accepted the form and the result was that I paid no additional import or customs duties or fees, and the package was not delayed or held up. As I said, ordered on Tuesday from the U.K., in my hands Wednesday morning here in New York.
I left the phone's box at home, so I can't verify the phone's origin that way right now. I think I read on the box that it was manufactured in Taiwan, but I imagine almost all models are, regardless of intended market. The SKU on my Handtec invoice lists it as a LGH815.ADEULD. I'm not sure what that means or if that helps you at all. The included documentation (quick-start guide, etc.) was in English (and perhaps other languages further in, I didn't actually read it beyond a quick glance).
I can confirm that activating the phone with AT&T was as easy as taking my SIM card out of the AT&T-branded Samsung Galaxy S4 I was using until yesterday, and slotting it into the new LG G4. Easy-as-pie.
Hope this helps!

ahh nice. thank you... yes this is very helpful. so shipping wasnt much at all. and judging by your SKU it looks like you have a German (DEU) Black leather variant. So this would confirm it is indeed the EU OPEN model.. perfect. If I do go the H815 route it looks like these guys might be the cheapest... and I was looking for the DEU version... so that's perfect.
Also thanks for the heads up on the FCC form etc. I just wanted to be sure I wasn't going to be hit with some extra taxes after they deliver it. :good:
one last question... but unimportant if you dont have time to respond... but I'm curious if your G4 box came with the extra plastic battery cover? Seems every country is different but I know in Italy inside the main box (not a promo) there was an extra gold plastic battery cover.. but it seems some resellers are taking it out. I may just get the plastic back version anyway... but if i were to get the leather variant I'd want the option to swap to plastic.

Brilliant! I'm happy I could help out!
Yes, the FCC form concerned me, but it wound up being no big deal at all. Probably because this device is certified for use in the U.S. after all. I can provide you with the FCC ID and manufacturer's contact information I wound up filling into the form, if it comes to that. I initially touched base with Handtec about helping me fill out the form, but they claimed that they had never seen it before, so I wound up handling it myself with a bit of help from Google and the FedEx coordinator.
Handtec accidentally sent me the genuine leather BROWN model, and that's something that I'm currently reaching out to them about. But the box did include a second (plastic) back cover. I want to say it was the gold one, but since it came in a manilla sleeve, of sorts, and I didn't actually pull it out all the way, it might be the white one reflecting the color of the sleeve. Again, I left that in the box, which is currently at home. But I can double-check it tonight and circle back.
Included in the small box was the handset (with brown leather back installed), a separate plastic cover, a detached battery, a quick-start guide, an EU charger and separate micro USB cable, and a boxed up set of earbuds. Quadbeat 3s, or something like that? I left them in the box as well.
I can snap pics tonight, if you'd like.
I just chatted with one of the CSRs and she told me that the leather back ones do not come with extra back covers. Maybe she just read it from the site, as they are not listed there. I'll definitely be interested in seeing the picture of everything that comes with it. I currently have the T-moile brown leather version that I'm going to return thank the T-mobile B$ about unlocking it (I want to use it on AT&T).
Thanks

Yep, I hear you.
This is the first time I procure my own phone (non-subsidized, out of contract), and I did so primarily because I see how much of a mess the Samsung Galaxy S4 development scene turned into after a couple of hardware revisions. I was lucky enough to get a relatively early AT&T model that retained an exploitable bootloader; and so was actually able to enjoy all the benefits of custom recoveries, custom ROMs, etc. without having to deal with crippled workarounds like Safestrap. I really wanted to avoid any kinds of issues with my new device, so I lurked around XDA for the past week, researched, and wound up going with the EU H815 import from Handtec. I haven't actually tried to use LG's official bootloader unlock method, since I hear it may compromise some DRM modules or some such. Kind of waiting to see what the development scene manages to produce in the coming weeks/months. But not having root is quickly wearing away at my patience, so I might just bite the bullet regardless.
I'll be sure to snap some pics of the phone, packaging, included contents, etc. tonight and try to post them here. I'm not sure what the limitations are for junior members like me. Worst case scenario, I'll upload them to my Photobucket account or something. I've got a long workday ahead of me before I return home tonight, however.

Actually the international H815 model is available on eBay, and in a very good price.
For example here: http://www.ebay.com/itm//281696933232
or here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/191577825455
Prices drop a few dollars a day, so I would wait (and actually am waiting) for the price to be stable, and then buy it.
Neither of them are European version. These are Asian models that are not eligable for unlocked bootloaded (atleast not right now).

It says H815, how can you tell its not?
I'm also planning on buying from one of these sellers.

Not 100% sure about the "Never MSRP" seller but it's been confirmed that the other seller is selling Asian version (check the other thread). Also, most of his phones are shipped from Singapore.
Edit: Just got the confirmation from "never MSRP" that it's the Asian version H815T.

Wow never thought LG would be so annoying with unlocking the bootloader. It is the same exact model!!
I hope they will allow unlocking quickly for other variants, because these prices are much better.
Well, and what is this model supposed to be ?

I've attached three photos demonstrating what I received from Handtec. Two of them were taken from my old phone, and they came out hopelessly blurry. I apologize for this, as I didn't really think to check them last night. The best picture was taken with the new LG G4 and came out much clearer. This, I think, is the more pertinent photo anyway; so hopefully, no harm, no foul.

ahh nice. thank you... yes this is very helpful. so shipping wasnt much at all. and judging by your SKU it looks like you have a German (DEU) Black leather variant.

Hiya,
A FedEx import coordinator contacted me the same day I placed the order and requested that I fill out an FCC form (740, IIRC), and with a bit of Googled advice, I did so.
After a couple of revisions, the FedEx coordinator accepted the form and the result was that I paid no additional import or customs duties or fees, and the package was not delayed or held up. As I said, ordered on Tuesday from the U.K., in my hands Wednesday morning here in New York.
Hope this helps!

First of all, Thanks for the info~! This looks like a really good deal. My only follow up questions is that would you happen to know that is this "FedEx Import Coordinator" who contacted you was from the UK or the US?
I'm from Canada myself so if it's originating from the UK (Handtec), then I think I can safely presume the procedure would be more or less the same. If he's from the US though then I'll have to do some more research.
Thanks in advance for the help~!

Question OnePlus Trade in program scam

Hello,
I just want to hear your experience with trade in program, as I had terrible experience.
I have OnePlus 2 in perfect condition, with original charger, box, and all packaging like from factory. Phone was always in the wallet case and had screen protectors. I sent it in for trade in they offer $10 for it + $240 bonus, if I purchase new OnePlus 11.
OP2 was sent in in original packaging and I took photos before I put it in the box. Few weeks later I got email saying that they offer $0, because there is damage on frame. So, they must drop it there, or on purpose damaged my phone, so they don't need to pay $250.
Once I complained about it and sent pictures (evidence) before it shipped, suddenly report despaired from the Phobio website (no picture); and only thing I could do is accept or reject $0 offer.
I called couple times and send multiple emails. Customer service didn't do anything about it. It seems trade in is such a scam by OnePlus and their partner Phobio.
I am long standing customer from OnePlus 1, had multiple phones, bought lots of accessories. Recommended OP to many friends and co-workers. Bought phones for my wife and my parents from OP. I was planning on buying two new tablets in April, but this situation gives me bad taste with OP and I don’t think I will ever buy their product again.

They said my screen had damage and I only got $260 vs $500.
I traded in my OnePlus 10t, and got full credit for it. $480. I sent it back in original packaging without the charger or cable, I kept those. I also had just flashed the US firmware, because I was rooted on Indian firmware. The phone wouldn't update lmao, but I said nothing and neither did OnePlus when they inspected it. I got an email a few days later saying everything was good.
I got $0. so I returned this stupid phone.
I sent the phone in perfect condition with the original box and accessories and they stole the box and accessories and only sent back my phone in a generic cardboard box. I'm just going to toss he phone in the garbage, but I made them waste money shipping it back.
I got full value refund for my OP7Pro which was in perfect condition besides a small nick in the frame near the alert slider.
Other than that I was worried because I only received one e-mail ith DHL shipping label and no info from the trade-in partner or any status update on Oneplus website. I have sent my phone 28 days ago, one week ago I contacted OP support chat, it was escalated and I was supposed to receive a response in 3-5 days but of course nothing so I just had a chat again 5 mins ago and the OP support confirmed my trade in was completed, full value.
So in the end the entire trade in process was strange for me and lacked any updates regarding its status since receiving the shipping label.
I was worried a bit because often those type of third party service provides do everything in their power to lower the value of sent device but seems I was lucky or the support corrected this behind the curtain.

You clearly did not read the rules and T&C of trade-in service.
I just got a notice that they're not giving me anything because they received it late.
The only date I had was that it had to be shipping before March 15th. I shipped it on the 8th.
I did email them with my displeasure and we shall see, because the payment method I used they can't charge any more money to it.

I had the exact same experience.
Sent the device only. The OP Trade-In is a complete scam and a dishonest business practice.
It is designed to fail from the beginning... it leaves you not appropriate time from ordering the new device, receiving it and testing it within your 15 days return policy in case you need to do this. You must ship the Trade-In device as soon as you get the box, which I receive 2 days after my order, the new devices got delayed in shipping...
I wrote back to OP stipulating the device was in perfect condition as are all my device from Mobile phones, to laptops , pads etc... the said revised quote : $0
OnePlus is a disgrace and since they are now OPPO controlled...the "Never Settle" slogan should be changed to “Never Again!” & “New Customer Don't Buy"
One more thing: they have made almost impossible now to “root” to which they became THE famous brand as a “Flagship Killer & Rooting Favorite”
I am looking forward to seeing how the Nothing Phone develops in a few years....this should be interesting to see if Nothing captures the huge following of the rooting community and a company that actually listens to its customers/fans!!
Shame on you OP!!!

Yep, sent a galaxy S8 and the estimate was 10£ plus 100£ bonus. After they checked it, they said it has screws missing which was not true. They charged me the initial discount but they said I will get a 100£ refund after the return period is over, in 30 days . So yeah, if I don't get the 100£ I'll get scammed too
I sent in my S21 FE and it got stolen! They never received it, instead they got clothes in the box. I sent them the receipt of my postage. All I had and they are investigating with the trade in partner about what happened, heard nothing new yet, still investigating
I wanted to do a trade in with Oneplus but they offered me 100 Euro...
I sold the phone for 400 Euro.
It seems people in Europe had good experience vs North America.
You got me worried right now
I just received my op11, my old op8 pro is in the box, waiting for DHL to pick it up and ship back.
It's in his original box, nose scratches. Hope everything goes well.
I'm sending it from Croatia to Oneplus France.
I'll update when I get news, good or bad.

Take pictures of device and packaging for safety.
It is totally a scam. I traded in a nearly new 10T (just outside of the return window otherwise I would have returned everything - flawless conditition) but it was refused and shipped back. They said I didn't ship my trade-in in the time allotted, even though tracking put it at least a week ahead of the date. They also shipped and received my original phone back before that same date even occurred.
I've since sold the 10T and the 11 for a Pixel 7 Pro.
Whatever, F 1+. It was my last. Even T-Mobile has dropped them. Good riddance.
Mod translation: I sent the 8 pro 12_256 with scratches on the screen but the frame is in perfect condition. and they charged me 210 euros. they asked me 40 euros to pay.. of course i accepted the offer.. so all good for me
I had the same issue trading in a Google Phone to Google, they credited me $180 less for some BS reason. I called Amex, disputed the original charge paid for the new phone, and a week later Amex found in my favor. That's why Amex is the best CC to use for purchases like this.
It's now been a week and I haven't received any replies from OnePlus. Not sure what is next, as they're not getting any more money from me.
