Which Bluetooth headset for music (and calls)? - Galaxy S III Accessories

A couple of days ago I didn't know what Apt-X was, but now I know, and... finally understand why bluetooth streaming was so horrible with my HTC Desire!
So since the S3 has this codec, and since I am going to get the S3, I would like to know which is the best bluetooth stereo headset out there that supports this?
HS3000 looks good, and might be the thing for me but it's more than a year old AFAIK. Any other suggestions? Can be any brand.
EDIT: Sound quality is priority.

What's the issue with the HS3000 being a year old? I have one and use it with my One X (also Apt-X capable), great piece of kit and cheap too. Besides that Apt-X headsets are fairly scarce at present, I know Sennheiser have several, but the prices are rather prohibitive...

If you want a real capable headphone, Sennheiser MM-550x/450x seems like a true winner in that regard

I'm looking for a new Bluetooth headset for music too... i'm currently using a Sony Ericsson MW600 which is pretty good but I'm keen to get something with apt-x support.
The HS3000 looks ok but ideally i'd like a display so i can see the number of people who call and also track information... does anyone know of a bluetooth headset with apt-x support which also has a display?

Well i'm gonna throw my MW-600 on it. It has superb sound and served me well in both my HTC Wildfire and Huawei U8800... Although if the in-ear buds that samsung provides, sound good i wont bother replacing them

Are any of the headsets mentioned "lossless" when walking fast?

Don't really think they're worth it. For that price you could have the HS3000 and buy a set of $200 IEMs and a set of $200 cans which you can use with anything with a 3.5mm output, or even use the HS3000 as an input for anything with a 3.5mm input. For most people that'll be a much higher value proposition.

Thanks, I'll check out this model. Looks to be cheaper than the HS3000 too. If the sound quality is good I might buy it..
EDIT: It doesn't seem to support apt-x!

I wear mine hanging from my neck when out cycling and it's fine.

Another vote for HS3000, it supports Apt-X. Using it with my HOX with some £170 iems and sounds fine for wireless playback. Small and compact.

got the HS3000 two days ago, and i must say its atleas as good as the mw600 it sounds good feels good well its all good BUT thers a damn BUT in there, its the answer button everytime you press it but mistake or otherwise it want's to redial the last number dialed. i havnt found a workaround other than installing a "call confirm" app. so now i only need a tasker profile to activate this between the hours i need it to.

Been using the Nokia Essence, it also has NFC (unfortunatly it doesnt work as planned with Android Devices). However, it does its job pretty well and did i mention it has NFC?

Yes real easy, I'm hoping that someone will develop an call confirm app that turns on at bt connect, the only apps I have found turns call confirm off on bt connection.

Sony is supposed to be releasing the Smart Wireless Headset Pro which appears to have all features of the MW600 with the addition of a micro-SD card slot (2GB card included) and Bluetooth 3.0. It looks like a nice upgrade from the MW600, but it appears that it does not support apt-X as this feature is not listed under the specs tab. It's also a bit expensive, but the street price might be somewhere south of the MSRP of $149.
EDIT: Some features are shown in this video

I have to ask... why wouldn't they? It's a standard, after all.
Or do you have some other definition of "work"?
there's a ton of stuff out there that's better and cheaper than the iPhone buds. But I guess if you have nothing else to use...
i dont like htc issued headsets. theyre too long and too big for my ears. i never liked em.
I'm pretty sure they would, maybe not the volume buttons but the single press for pause double for skip and triple for previous has worked on a few blackberries I've had. So I don't see why not

If the OP was asking about the ones with the integrated volume controls... those are proprietary to Apple. There's no reason they would work on an Android phone.
I dont see why they wouldnt work, They do in my other android device. I personally like mine because I sleep streaming music and they are comfortable in my ear when I roll my head. (the mic works too)

I doubt the volume control on any of the headphones meant for an iPhone is gonna work on an Android device... But if you just want a good quality pair of headphones with great SQ and a mic, there's plenty of choices out there. I just bought the MEElectronics M9P straight from their site for $23 w/S&H (coupon code "SHIPPING_COUPON" knocked a few bucks off shipping). They should be a nice upgrade from my Sennheiser CX300 which are 4 years old and still kicking, but I wanted something w/a mic.
I've got a pair of JVC HA-FX34 which I use to exercise (less cord noise than the CX300) and by most accounts the MEElec's should be an upgrade over that as well... Just throwing it out there since I know they're fairly common headphones at retail, might be a point of reference. Head-Fi.org is a great resource for this kinda stuff. Other popular choices are the NuForce NE-7M, Maximo iP-HS5, Apple's own dual driver IEMs, etc. Most of those are $40-50 tho and the M9P seemed like a great value judging by the many comparisons between them and some of the pricier competition.
Newegg's selling the M9P as well btw, FWIW (as is Amazon).
Meelectronics makes some great stuff. I have their M6's, which are straight earbuds, fantastic SQ for the money spent. The M9s are supposed to be an amazing bang for the buck if you need a mic.
i saw these bad boys on sale earlier:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B001DERZK0/
i think it's what i'm going to go with
I'm really hoping the mic works with the iPhone earbuds cause I know that they didnt work on the HTC Hero which was disappointing... it recognized it as a headset but no audio in worked.

im hoping it works. ordered a pair already.
I have a pair of V-Moda (Faze) earphones / mic and use them on my Hero (and Pre) all the time... I'd say u should be good to go with those. SN: They sound great, BTW (but one of my earphones stopped working :-( .. but I'm sending them in for a warranty replacement )
http://www.v-moda.com/headphones/faze.aspx
**The Play/Stop button works too BTW
From what I've experienced (on the Hero at least), is that the iPhone headphones work for your music and its recognized as a headset but the microphone is not functional. I guess the jack isnt touching the right connectors or something. From the display model of the EVO, it looks a little more promising... I hope they work. I have Shure headphones meant for the iPhone but I wanna use them on my EVO!
The apple earphones don't work on Nokias too. The mic ring is positioned differently compared to standrad earphones with mic.
Has anyone tried using the mic?

been using it for over a year now and still performs well, battery lasts about 10-12 hours continuous playing, good sound quality, great build (friend sat on it once and it didn't break).
the mic is pretty much useless outdoors specially when there's a lot of noise around you, but good enough indoors.

In my ears it is. It took me a while to decide on what ones to get. These can last around 14hrs or so on a charge and charge by micro usb.
I sometimes use the samsung headphones that came with the gs2 if i don't want the bt module on my shirt. I put it to my pocket. Kinda pointless to some but I keep my phone cordless like this.
I an charge it on a table or something while still using the bt function. And the stock ear buds for the gs2 have a mic and I think the mic is used during a call. Cause people say they can hear me fine when the module is in my pocket or far away from my mouth.
I am using a Plantronics Backbeat. The one I bought came with a dongle that plugs into a non-bluetooth device. So I use the headset with my phone, via bluetooth. And also can hook up to my TV using the dongle. Under $100.
Picked it up last year at Fry's.

I use a Motorola S305 set. They are cheap in price (under $40 at Amazon) but sound pretty decent. Owned them for almost a year with no problems.
i got a huge list
however of the ones that performed the best
Motorola HT820 the best sound and beat, full feature, easy to use, extra long battery life
as of today i've not found anything that can compare, i've pretty much purchased every sony, jabra, motorola, platonic, all other names i forgot, etc, etc
all the rest were like meh.. 3rd place or worse rating
platonics are the worse
in 2nd place best i'll name Jabra BT8010 super convenient, it kinda sucks in the sound quality for audiophile but gets the job done if you want elegance
What about the LG HBS700: http://www.amazon.com/LG-HBS-700-Wi..._1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1319749852&sr=1-1 inexpensive, comfortable. great sounding.

[Q]"Best" Headset for Note?

Hi all,
I'm wondering what headset (Bluetooth/Wired) you use for your Note? I'm using Marshall Minor, but I still find the volume not loud enough.
Would any of you recommend something else? I live in Hong Kong which is fairly noisy, so something that has good volume would be great.
Thanks in advance!
I haven't got a Note yet, but I use the Sony MW600 bluetooth headset with my HD2. And I'd be lost without it - best thing I've bought!
No problems syncing to the device, it has remote control (pause, next/previous), hands free talk as it has built in mic, and comes with in ear buds, which are very good indeed. They block out quite a bit of external noise too, but you can plug in any headset you want to it if you want to go to higher spec headphones. Battery lasts about 10 hours continuous use, and it will re-charge of your Note's charger.
I'm not an audiophile, but I do like music. And it does me fine.
http://www.handtec.co.uk/product.ph...w600---black?gclid=CLftmIS1n6wCFYEZ4QodOzpc_Q
Edit - Just had a look at the Marshalls, and these would offer a tighter fit in the ear then the Marshalls, so would block out more external noise. I wear mine in work, even if i'm not listening to music. I work in the print industry with loud machinery, and they are better than the ear plugs we get given, which reduce external noise by 27 dB. If I'm listening to music in work while my machines are running, and you want to chat - then you ain't gonna get through unless you're in my face!

My previous headset was the Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800
Compared to the Sonys:
- They seem to fit better in my ear (they come with 3 different bud sizes)
- The earbuds are slightly larger and so I guess they do stick out a little more, though I haven't noticed any issue with it
- An extra 2 hours of call/music time
- Have FF/RW controls as well as volume adjust (The Sony's only have Play/Pause/Answer)
- I haven't had any issues with people hearing me or me hearing other people when using them, but I've yet to test them somewhere really noisy
- They come in Red (if that's your thing)

I was thinking about this but didnt bother getting one once i saw the Note, not as big as the press would have u believe!
I was considering the NOKIA J - i has a small clipable dock so i wouldnt have to have it in the ear all the time...
3 months standby time
Auto answer when taken out of dock
Few more feature i cant remember now, worth having a look at.

Besides being a gadget phone nut I am also a sick buyer of headsets. I have been in search of the perfect headset forever ..
There is one by Sony that I love the way it fits. They don't make it any more and every now and then I find one on eBay ..
I have the Sennheiser bluetooth headset. If you look hard you can find one new on eBay most of the time for about $60 .. I like that one a lot because I have small ear holes and those go on the outside of your ear ..
I also have 2 Bang & Olafsen bluetooth headsets .. One left ear which I am keeping and the other right ear which I am gonna sell when I find it .. I also have the wired Bang & Olafsen head set. I read that it has a teeny tiny microphone somewhere .. I don't know if that is my model .. use it for listening to music ..
I actually have a box of discarded bluetooth headsets. I should put them all together in one lot and sell them. Maybe I will do that today. Don't know if I can find all the chargers though .. They are all discarded because I find them uncomfortable to wear.
For music or movies I use the Sennheiser M400s which have a nice balanced sound and good battery life. For calls, it's hard to go past the Plantronics Discovery 975 - small and sleek, super comfortable to wear, and really good battery life (especially with the included charging case).......
I can't wear anything that doesn't go around the ear. And if it goes in the ear, ugh. After a half hour I have to take it out because it gets painful. Maybe if I had bigger ears .. or Man Ears .. it wouldn't be so bad. They are doing hearing aid implants now, maybe they could do a little bluetooth implant ??

Roughly about the same, although I haven't listened to much through my Novero's.

Any chance you can take a picture with the headset on? I want to see how it looks on and have an idea on how much it sticks out. I cannot find a pic or review anywhere for this headset.
I got these 2 days ago from Amazon:
amazon.de/Philips-SHB9001-00-Bluetooth-Headset/dp/B00424O4RU/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1320610417&sr=8-1[/url]
the quality while talking is not the best but its enough for me.
Despite the positive comments about the quality of just listening to music, i can hear some "scratches" when a song gets "heavier". This is my first BT Headset so maybe its normal for BT headsets, or i just overlooked a setting i have to change in the Software.. Hint, anyone?

Hi all,
I'm wondering what headset (Bluetooth/Wired) you use for your Note? I'm using Marshall Minor, but I still find the volume not loud enough.
Would any of you recommend something else? I live in Hong Kong which is fairly noisy, so something that has good volume would be great.
Thanks in advance!

Do you have a budget in mind? I think we can offer better suggestions if you give us a budget range.
I use Sennheiser IE8 connected to a Sony/Ericsson Bluetooth receiver on the go, and a small digital analog converter/amplifier by NuFore together with the headphones when working.

Hi, thanks for replying. I do not have a budget in mind, my usual principle is to pay what's worth its salt.
So far, everyone's recommended bluetooth wireless headsets, I'm not a big fan of charging stuff, having need to recharge my phone nightly already. But if there are no better wired devices out there, I might as well get Bluetooth because call quality is more important to me than music quality which my Marshall Minor does just fine.
I'm looking for a $100 max wired in-hear headset with mike and very complete remote too. It seems Android is not very friendly with those at all, so I'm thinking I'll have to go Bluetooth. What I found:
- http://www.etymotic.com/ephp/mc2.html, if their software works on Note (untested)
- a-JAYS One+, coming in Dec.: http://www.jays.se/products/earphones/a-jays-one-plus.html (uses software too)
- Sennheiser just confirmed they have nothing wired.
- Klipsch: Image S4A http://www.klipsch.com/image-S4A-headphones being adapted for S2, Note = S2 ?
- Samsung: told me to go f... (...ind a solution by) myself
Soft: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.kober.headset , and others, look for "headset control". This one has a trial version, yeahhhh ^^
EDIT: I'm putting everything worthwhile I find in this post, so as not to spread it all over the place.

I am very happy with my Bang and Olefsen wired headset ..
hi all... just like to pop a quick question:
does the Gnote able to accept the standard wired headphones w/mic from other brands for example: UE? i am on galaxy S and i have been searching for headphone w/mic to replace the original ones from samsung but as usual when i connect other brands of headphone w/mic to my S; all i can hear is the music.. whenever i am making calls the headphone fails me...

sony erricson mw600 with note

Hey guys, i've a question i'm planning to buy sony erricson mw600 bluetooth for galaxy note but there are few questions that i want to ask is:
1) whether all the keys like volume etc work fine with it?
2) how is the sound quality in terms of music and calls.
3) is there an option of fast forwarding and skipping of songs.
4) what about the range of Bluetooth?
Please guys help me out and if there is any other better option available than mw600 (similar to it) than do suggest me.
Thanks in advance.

Hi, i have one.
1) whether all the keys like volume etc work fine with it?
Yes, no problem
2) how is the sound quality in terms of music and calls.
Very good quality
3) is there an option of fast forwarding and skipping of songs.
Hold forward or backward
4) what about the range of Bluetooth?
Like others, 12 meters and no problem.
Everything is ok ! Buy it
You have radio function too with the mw600.
IMHO, a very good bluetooth kit, good song for daily use.
(Sorry for my poor English).
I had the the MW600...but returned.
I don't like the fact the clip is so sensitive, always clicked when clip on .
I got this ...Sony Ericsson HBH-IS800 instead.

All the functions work, play/pause, skip/last, volume, call send and end, etc.
Sound quality is great, I love the fact you can use any earbuds thanks to the 3.5mm jack. I use some pretty high-end in ear modules and they sound really good. The buds that come with the module sound decent as well.
Yes you can fast forward (long press) or just skip, with a single click of the forward button.
Bluetooth range, covers my small apartment with no issue. So 30 feet or so?
I'm loving this with my note, having to take out the note to control my music was getting really bothersome, now I can leave it in my pocket
Wanted to like it but the touch sensitive volume adjust was a big no no
I have one and love it volume sensitivity isn't an issue for me.

Don't agree at all. Actually I thought it would be a problem but fortunately the volume changes only when you mean to change it. I use it every single day on my Note.

First, it don't have the clip attachment so it very comfortable.
Battery life is not bad,I didn't really tested how long it last but it good for me.
when using as the Mic for the phone, no compliant from the other end.
Sound it good for music using with Poweramp which have the equalizer.

I have a set of MW600, which I think are excellent.
I did look at the IS800's, but they had one massive flaw in comparison IMO, and that is that unlike the MW600's, they don't use MicroUSB for charging.
As a frequent traveller, I don't want to carry more chargers than is strictly necessary, and having to carry a dedicated charger for a tiny set of headphones just doesn't work for me.

Dave

That's a valid point. For me I'm fine with that.

range of bluetooth seems pretty excellent. Interestingly the quality isn't much worse than the output from the headphone jack on the note itself (which is appalling, but just to make the point).
Something I would love to experiment with is using different headphones with it, as well as using an AOSP bluetooth stack with higher bitpool. Higher bitpool by itself would make the headphones well.. perfect. The DAC on them is no worse than the GNote dac.
I definitely love the fact that they use MicroUSB for charging, as I only need to keep one charger around. I could probably get away with just using one wall adapter for a micro USB cable, and having a portable USB device as well as a single cable to charge two devices on the go.
Battery life is really good, and I've had it last two days before on a single charge. Sometimes (with heavy use) it dies with the note, which is not a problem either
i have the mw600 and use a pair of etymotic hf5 with it and love it

That Sony looks nice. For me the point of wireless headphones would be no Clip on unit and less cables which i like about the is800's .

The only issue I have with the mw600 is that - as I am a frequent traveller too and I use a second phone with a local SIM card - it can not connect simultaneously with two phones, although it can be paired with two phones.
It can only connect to one phone and one other device, like a computer or particularly in my case with a Motorola Xoom.

I have a ViewSonic V350 backup phone which I use when travelling as it has dual SIMs!
It's not a stellar handset in and of itself (poor screen), but it is ideal when travelling.
