Regular Sim or Micro Sim - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S II SGH-T989

Im guessing our phone uses the regular sized sim? The reason I ask is because Im thinking of switching to straight talk as tmobil just cut off my tethering.
Just trying to confirm what sim to get before spending the $15:

Thanks for confirming. This is what I figured - nothing micro about the sim card in the back of my phone.

Straight talk is cheaper

Why not keep tmobile, and tether anyway after you root and download a tethering app?

this is true, however on the website it doesn't specify whether or not you'll be getting 3g data or EDGE, or even 4G.

I am running the cm7 kang by eugene 373. Phone is already rooted.
Yesterday I couldnt access any websites. There was no anti-tethering tmobile software included on my device, and each site I tried to access would redirect to a tmobile webpage.
I've been tethering since i got the device with no issues and Im also on a prepaid contract.

Same here....are you using Google chrome by any chance? I know chrome has some fancy stuff that keeps it from accessing other sites. I simply used safari and it worked fine after that. Sucks that I can no longer use chrome but its whatevs really. I actually called T-Mobile about it since I have the 5GB data plan and tethering should be free with that, well it now turns out that tethering is 5 bucks extra on top of the 30.

I would try to play dumb with T-Mobile and ask what is going on.
Remember that services like straight talk say that you get unlimited data but shut it off if you go above 2gb a month sometimes less. If you want some sources I can dig up some from howardforums links to show you.

Well if I cant tether on tmobile, then ill never use up all 5 gigs i pay for. It would make sense for me to have a plan that costs less and gives me less data.
If im stuck with 2gigs thats fine, since the bill will go from 70 to 45 per month... and ill pry only use about 2 gigs if tethering isnt an option.

I have prepaid plan like you with unlimited edge after using 5GB 4G speed
Next month ima swith to the $50 plan with 100MB 4G and then they slow it down to edge unlimited
Im in FL

And my 4G speed is fast
I get 27MBps download

Sprint getting ready to remove unlimited?

I upgraded my line to the SGS3 yesterday and now I'm noticing that my usage says certain usage out of 4 GB. Not sure what's going on but it appears like Sprint may be removing the unlimited data feature soon? They've been changing a lot of things on their website lately.
Anyways, Overstew sent me this picture of his usage.

Anyone know what to think of it or are we just being paranoid?
Very interesting. Can you hop on their support chat and ask why you're showing a 4GB data limit? Mine is still showing unlimited, but I have not made any account changes or upgrades since 9/2011.
Unlimited Data is practically the only thing keeping me on Sprint. Hell, even T-Mobile is better...
Just noticed that's my screenshot lol.
I'll chat with them and see but I don't really see myself getting an accurate answer from Sprint reps.

That's weird looking/ First is shows there's a 4Gb limit on 3g and then it shows same 3G data being unlimited. Did you photoshop this overstew?
Look at the date. It says from 7/1 to 7/1...

Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Looks like they prorated it for some unknown reason. The dates that say 7/1 to current are still unlimited.
Lurking from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk 2
Maybe it's just a 4GB limit per day.
It might have been a bug with the 1 second Leap Second that happened at the end of last month. Just a guess since the billing cycle for the 4GB above is from 4/1 to 4/1.
For more information on it, click here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leap_second
It's a website bug, I've had customers come in before showing the same thing.
Good luck trying to get anywhere near 4gigs on 3g

They'll eventually dump unlimited, it's just a matter of time. I'll be switching to Verizon that same day.

To tell you the truth I wouldn't mind if they did something like this. 4GB a day but still have unlimited data so u can use like 120GB in one month or maybe like 3GB or something. This will stop ppl that use wireless tether for free and download torrents all day and hog up all that bandwidth. Lol

a packet is a packet, doesn't matter if it comes from a phone, a computer, or a leap frog toy that your 2 year old son wiped his boogers on. anyone with a clue would know you can torrent on your phone too. did you also forget that some people have done away with cable and simply stream netflix and hulu via HDMI from their phones to their TVs? what about some of the new games that require hundreds of MB of additional data to be downloaded to your sdcard before you can even play it? should they get charged tethering fees for not tethering even though they're using the same amount of data as someone who is?

Cellular data was never meant to be a replacement for your home internet connection.
If you're going to stream Netflix or Hulu to your TV from your PHONE connection, then yes, I think you should get charged for that.

Hey man!
You could try the Mobile Share Plan, which nets you Unlimited Talk, Text, and a shared 1GB of data for ~$95 a month.
That is by far the cheapest plan.

Give AT&T a quick call, theyre really helpful.
Ok, I work at a AT&T COR store. I would suggest the Mobile Share, 6 gigs shared unlimited talk and text and 35 per smartphone. Comes out to 160 +tax. Also we have a pretty good work discount program that comes off the base of your plan. For example if you're job offers gets you 15% off it comes off the 90. PM me if you want more details.

Hey I work at at&t I can tell you exactly but I need to know a few things...
How many minutes between both lines would be towards landlines?
How much data would each user need/use? And how would you be using it?
Do you need unlimited text?
Where do you work or if it is in the other persons name where do they work? just because odds are there is a discount...
I can give you an exact number with that infor before taxes...let me know

Also the mobile share as it stands doesnt honestly save money unless you do have a discount... not only that but they are supposedly going to change them and personally I like the comfort of knowing I have exactly three gigs of internet...
Also if you have a tablet or laptop connect or need either the shared plan is cheaper but unless you have either of those things I dont find it to be super awesome

I have a question for the att guys :
How does att class what they used to call feature phones in the new plan?
We have a gs3, x10 and a old Samsung flip phone. The x10 was never recognized as a smart phone and while the filp phone has Internet it's very dated and my wife doesn't want a smartphone but does do texting. I have unlimited family messages, more banked minutes than I ever could use, and pay $50 for two data plans totaling 500mb. I also have a 10%discount.

I know this doesn't really help, but I got a pretty sweet deal on a brand new gs3 a couple months ago, took Sim out of my straight talk gs2, cut it down, put it in my s3, changed the APN and good to go! It uses at&t towers, unlimited everything for $45/month... Can't beat it, no LTE, but I have h+ and that's good enough for me when I'm not on WiFi. You might pay a little more for a phone up front, but you will basically get that money back, from the cash you save over most plans!!

@OP: I agree with these questions. Without knowing the answers to these questions, there is no true way anyone can give you specifics. Mobile share works for some but not for others such as myself. It is cheaper for me to utilize other plans and I have two lines with data and messaging along with a discount.
Is there any difference on how discounts, example Military discounts, are applied when switching from data for each individual smart phones to a mobile share plan. Right now I have 4 smart phones, with 2 of them having 200 mb of data and two newer ones having 300 mb of data. It looks as though I could switch to mobile share, have 6 gigs of data, and only pay about $4 more than I am paying now. If the discount is applied so that I save more on the mobile share plan, I will definately come out ahead. Is this correct thinking? Also, I've heard that the tax is calculated different which also can increase the savings. Is that correct as well?

I removed Carrier IQ using Logging TestApp Pro at home last night on WiFi. When I left my house today, where I would normally get a great HSPA+ signal I'm getting about 10-50Kbps bandwidth with a full signal. I am clearly being throttled. Not sure if it's because of CIQ or not, but it is highly coincidental timing.
Has anyone else removed CIQ and still getting normal speeds? FYI I'm on Monthly4G $30 plan with 5GB data and I'm only at 1.2GB used right now.
UPDATE: Restored to a Nandroid from before I attempted to remove CIQ, and my data returned to full speed. I'm going to try additional methods of removing CIQ and retaining data speed...

$649.95 + NJ Sales tax. Paid that yesterday. SOME STORES are handing out a load of BS saying they have to charge $50 for ACTIVATION FEE on prepaid accounts. I left that store and went to 2 others. The first confirmed $649+tax but didn't have the grey so I went to the 2nd and paid $649 + tax because they had one.
Neither of those stores even mentioned the add'l $50 but the price definitely is $649 and that is what it read on the display cards.

I was hoping it had a similar setup to the S III where you simply go to settings/Backup and reset/ and make sure "Collect diagnostics" is not checked. That was taken from the TMo support site to shut off CarrierIQ.

I've only had my Note3 for 2 weeks, and haven't actually got to use it as much as I'd like yet, but, in the last 2 weeks I've used:
1.58G of 4G: Top 5 usage apps: Google Play, Google Music, Dropsync, Chrome, Speedtest
18.26GB of WiFi (loving my new WiFi AC): Top 5 apps: ES File Explorer, Google Music, "CloudAgent", Google Play, Plex
Pretty sure the "CloudAgent" is Samsung's thing that syncs dropbox photos to the gallery. That was a waste of 2GB, IMO.
So, by my next billing cycle I should've used about 3GB out 5GB 4G, and maybe 40GB of WiFi.
Not too bad, but not too hoggy either.

Not too bad, but not too hoggy either.

Stock, rooted, until CyanogenMod is released, and yeah, on the T-Mobile $30/mo prepaid plan for unlimited data. Still haven't hit the 5GB 4G cap yet to see I'll be throttled...

Yeah, the only way I could eat up that much data is if I streamed way more video (plex, netflix, or directly from my NAS via VPN). I'm usually near WiFi when I want to stream though.

Yeah if you have WiFi you are set. They do charge a lot for the unlimited data. I have unlimited but I also have a strong wifi connection at home, where I spend a good amount of my day other than being at work. It works out nicely. I just like the unlimited data just in case. Plus the give you the tethering which I also use quite a bit at work. :good:
You are stock rooted? Have you tried any other ROMs?
What is VPN?

Yeah that's true. It's just that money is kind of tight right now so it's a big expense for me. I don't make a whole lot of money anymore and I can barely pay for my food stamps. My disability check is what's keepin' my wife and I surviving right now. Just hard times :/

What ROM do you suggest? I just rooted my phone a couple weeks ago. Looking for some good suggestions.
I was thinking about darthstalker or jedi... they seem to be pretty good.

wicked?? where is that? what kind of things are changed in it? a buddy of mine flashed my galaxy epic for me a while back and mentioned something about a build file or something like that and changed a bunch of stuff in it. does this one have that? I really liked the device more after that it seemed faster. and thanks for the suggestion!!!!! i would thank your comment but it said i had a limit so im sorry there. ill get it tomorrow :good:
i am on the unlimited talk/text/data which is running me like 80 a month
to do the prepaid you have to pay off the whole phone right? i have jump and all that too
Most was last month = 10 gigs
I need to find a good ftp program and it will most likely increase
My highest was over 80gigs, Most due to tethering, Netflix & Torrents
60gigs ... Torrents and netflix ...

Kind of hard for me to use 1mb of data when my whole neighborhood is blanketed with GSM (EDGE).
I'm at 13GB for the month. Billing cycle ends tomorrow. I'll probably use less from now on because I was having trouble staying connected to my Dlink 655 WiFi router at home. Changed a couple of settings on the router and all is good now

Tmobile throttle unlimited data hogs starting August 17th

http://www.engadget.com/2014/08/13/t-mobile-cracks-down-on-data-abusers/
Seems like it won't affect people using a vpn, since it's all routed through 1 ip and it doesn't seem like they are determining this by how much, but if they detect you using torrent apps and things like that. Still alot of the changes T-Mobile are making lately seem to be anti consumer, ie Jump not being every 6 months anymore, trying to do away with corporate plans before the backlash, raising prices on plans, and now this. It's making me want to jump to prepaid honestly.
Tmobiles throttle is ridiculous too. Im talking slower then 1x. Ive been throttled 3 times now in the past year and the max download speed for all 3 times was .15mbps and yes you read that correctly and I typed it correctly. POINT ONE FIVE Mbps for download and thats on LTE and HSPA

Seriously if they start doing this, I'll just go on straight talk for $45 a month with 3gb of data or Cricket.

My bad guise.
T-Mobile will waste tons of money and resources trying to do this. They're already a distant number 3 carrier...just when demonoid comes back torrents are once again on the radar.

Only "illegal" tethering and torrenting everyone else is fine

Well I'm not in that bunch hopefully it won't affect me too much

it says "they could have their data speeds reduced for the remainder of their billing cycle" not that they WILL
I get throttled pretty much every month. And it sucks especially at super slow speeds.

I've only gotten 4G around town the past few days where before I had full LTE. Seems legit.

well I called last month and they bumped me up for free as a courtesy. But 3gbs is not enuff especially when youre on the road and alot of free time :-/
And throttled again til September 3rd.
Went to xda.com took 3 minutes to load. But yet I run a speed test says 30s. So tmo obviously doesn't throttle some connections like speedtest. Which is shady as hell in my book.

Damn if they are gonna throttle you, you might as well go prepaid on Cricket or Straight Talk. $45 for unlimited talk, text, and 3gb of data each month.

I only pay 10 bucks a month for unlimited talk and text and 3gb of data
Plus ATT throttled Cricket to 8mb download on LTE at all times.
