If you look at the support pages for specs it tells you it has CIQ. It even has instructions on how to opt out.

Here's the link to where it says it has Carrier IQ installed.
Here's the link on how to turn it off. It's in your Users Manual on Page 346.

thank you very much, just got rid of that ****

I removed Carrier IQ using Logging TestApp Pro at home last night on WiFi. When I left my house today, where I would normally get a great HSPA+ signal I'm getting about 10-50Kbps bandwidth with a full signal. I am clearly being throttled. Not sure if it's because of CIQ or not, but it is highly coincidental timing.
Has anyone else removed CIQ and still getting normal speeds? FYI I'm on Monthly4G $30 plan with 5GB data and I'm only at 1.2GB used right now.
UPDATE: Restored to a Nandroid from before I attempted to remove CIQ, and my data returned to full speed. I'm going to try additional methods of removing CIQ and retaining data speed...

I have remove 2 days ago and no problem with the 4g speed

I kind of assumed it was there when the phone gave me some message about the keystrokes would be logged to help the smart keyboard detection learn or some such but it also seemed to imply you could opt out and took me to the settings screen. Of course now that I'm looking for that particular spot in settings I can't seem to find it.

can you remove this without root?

Whoops, yah meant $699, the guy helping also thought $650, but when we looked at the fine print it was more like $699, maybe it's 650 after rebate...
Any of you currently selling your note 1? How much you getting it for and when do you think it's the best time to swap in terms of spending the least amount of money?
Sorry if this is considered hijacking

$649.95 + NJ Sales tax. Paid that yesterday. SOME STORES are handing out a load of BS saying they have to charge $50 for ACTIVATION FEE on prepaid accounts. I left that store and went to 2 others. The first confirmed $649+tax but didn't have the grey so I went to the 2nd and paid $649 + tax because they had one.
Neither of those stores even mentioned the add'l $50 but the price definitely is $649 and that is what it read on the display cards.

My $199 TMo Note 2 is arriving today.
I was hoping it had a similar setup to the S III where you simply go to settings/Backup and reset/ and make sure "Collect diagnostics" is not checked. That was taken from the TMo support site to shut off CarrierIQ.

At least you take it lightly
Honestly, 5GB is a lot and if you are using your phones tethering to run your home internet well gotta put that one on you...haha. How many movies did you stream and were they in HD? =)
Throttling always stinks though...I am fairly new to TMO but is there a way to pay more to get it turned back on? Luckily I am on a huge business plan so we don't have throttling.

he wasnt asking for that. he wants to know how much data he has used for the month. thats the my account app. you mistaken it for benchmarking the network speed
i upgraded to the 10gb cap because I burn through data like no tomorrow.
before I updated my plan I couldnt check my data use but they did throttle me.
many times before I had ran xbox live and world of warcraft through my phone and never got throttled. So I think they are watching closer!

Regular Sim or Micro Sim

Im guessing our phone uses the regular sized sim? The reason I ask is because Im thinking of switching to straight talk as tmobil just cut off my tethering.

I am running the cm7 kang by eugene 373. Phone is already rooted.
Yesterday I couldnt access any websites. There was no anti-tethering tmobile software included on my device, and each site I tried to access would redirect to a tmobile webpage.
I've been tethering since i got the device with no issues and Im also on a prepaid contract.

Same here....are you using Google chrome by any chance? I know chrome has some fancy stuff that keeps it from accessing other sites. I simply used safari and it worked fine after that. Sucks that I can no longer use chrome but its whatevs really. I actually called T-Mobile about it since I have the 5GB data plan and tethering should be free with that, well it now turns out that tethering is 5 bucks extra on top of the 30.

Remember that services like straight talk say that you get unlimited data but shut it off if you go above 2gb a month sometimes less. If you want some sources I can dig up some from howardforums links to show you.

Well if I cant tether on tmobile, then ill never use up all 5 gigs i pay for. It would make sense for me to have a plan that costs less and gives me less data.
If im stuck with 2gigs thats fine, since the bill will go from 70 to 45 per month... and ill pry only use about 2 gigs if tethering isnt an option.

Seriously T-Mobile?

My data signal turned grey, I had no idea why, I restarted, switched ROMS, and still, the data is gone.
Than I checked the T-Mobile site and my data plan is gone, yet I'm being charged the same amount.
I'm guessing they detected that this is not a T-Mobile phone and disabled it, but seriously, why?
And I can't even call until Tuesday as its memorial day.
Has anyone had trouble with T-Mobile in regards to the Nexus and data?
No but I've had MAJOR data issues on my Verizon Nexus, the reception is garbage I don't care if its the phone, OS, or Verizon , its GARBAGE. My bet is that its the phone.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using xda premium
If it's anything like what I'm experiencing, your problem has nothing to do with T-Mobile; you're simply experiencing the same "data drop" issues that a lot of us are.
I've been trying different ROM/Kernel combinations left and right to see if I can get something that A) I like and B) doesn't have the drops.
So far, from what I can tell, it seems like a lot of people on AOKP are reporting this. Someone in their thread posted to flash the 4.0.3 RIL, but I don't know how eager I am to do that when other people are reporting no drops with ROMs like Slim ICS & LiquidSmooth.
EDIT: Hmm, looks like my data connection is perpetually grayed out as well. I wonder if something is going on?

I have my GNex stock, only root and I have not experienced data drops in mine. And my carrier is Claro...
Methinks T-Mobile has officially effed up. Here's what I got when I tried to open my browser:
You currently do not have data service.
If you want to access the Internet and your current plan does not include data, you must change to a plan with data.
If your current plan includes limited data, your data bucket has been depleted. [It sure as hell hasn't!]
To obtain data service, you can:
-Renew early if your plan allows
-Upgrade to a plan with data or a plan with more data

By any chance are you on a monthly 4G or other prepaid plan?
Because if so, I've experienced something similar TWICE already...it happens whenever my service is due for renewal..I'm on the $30 100 min unlimited text and 5GB web plan and even though I always make sure to add sufficient funds before my next renewal date, when my renewal date came, I got a similar message...it took a call to customer service to get it resolved...
the second time around I got a $10 credit for my troubles but it is still annoying as hell. The reps also said it was a glitch in their system.
Not happened to me and been running my Galaxy Nexus on T-Mobile for over 4 months now (and had T-Mobile for 1.5years total).
I haven't heard of this being a regular issue, and I feel like I follow T-Mobile pretty closely. I highly doubt it has anything to do with you using a GNex on their network, probably just a glitch. Call in and they'll make it right.
Happened to me once over the last month, rebooted phone and it was blue again. On AOKP M5 + Franco M4.
Grey bars means you are not connected to Google's servers.
No signal is NOT a result of grey bars.
As in, if your bars are grey you can still have voice signal and data signal.

I used to get 8-16mbps on one s and I get from 5-10mbps on my gnex couldn't be any happier

No. T-Mobile advertises bringing your own phone to use as a feature. I've never had problems - and I started my T-Mobile account with an AT&T phone, actually.
It's a glitch, it's rare and ridiculous that it happened to you, but it's not the end of the world. Chill out

Sprint getting ready to remove unlimited?

I upgraded my line to the SGS3 yesterday and now I'm noticing that my usage says certain usage out of 4 GB. Not sure what's going on but it appears like Sprint may be removing the unlimited data feature soon? They've been changing a lot of things on their website lately.
Anyways, Overstew sent me this picture of his usage.

Anyone know what to think of it or are we just being paranoid?
Very interesting. Can you hop on their support chat and ask why you're showing a 4GB data limit? Mine is still showing unlimited, but I have not made any account changes or upgrades since 9/2011.
Unlimited Data is practically the only thing keeping me on Sprint. Hell, even T-Mobile is better...
Just noticed that's my screenshot lol.
I'll chat with them and see but I don't really see myself getting an accurate answer from Sprint reps.

Lol, I think the more likely scenario is it's a website bug.

might it me an LTE thing since they are bring out their new connections out, its only happening on the SG III?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
Looks like they prorated it for some unknown reason. The dates that say 7/1 to current are still unlimited.

Maybe it's just a 4GB limit per day.
It might have been a bug with the 1 second Leap Second that happened at the end of last month. Just a guess since the billing cycle for the 4GB above is from 4/1 to 4/1.
For more information on it, click here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leap_second
It's a website bug, I've had customers come in before showing the same thing.
Good luck trying to get anywhere near 4gigs on 3g

They'll eventually dump unlimited, it's just a matter of time. I'll be switching to Verizon that same day.
mine still says unlimited on 3g/4g. Must be a mistake on ur acct.
Your inlet allowed so much on roaming networks.Sprints still unlimited.

There is no other reason to stick around, especially if you're on a family plan.

To tell you the truth I wouldn't mind if they did something like this. 4GB a day but still have unlimited data so u can use like 120GB in one month or maybe like 3GB or something. This will stop ppl that use wireless tether for free and download torrents all day and hog up all that bandwidth. Lol

a packet is a packet, doesn't matter if it comes from a phone, a computer, or a leap frog toy that your 2 year old son wiped his boogers on. anyone with a clue would know you can torrent on your phone too. did you also forget that some people have done away with cable and simply stream netflix and hulu via HDMI from their phones to their TVs? what about some of the new games that require hundreds of MB of additional data to be downloaded to your sdcard before you can even play it? should they get charged tethering fees for not tethering even though they're using the same amount of data as someone who is?

Cellular data was never meant to be a replacement for your home internet connection.
If you're going to stream Netflix or Hulu to your TV from your PHONE connection, then yes, I think you should get charged for that.

Post your NOTE 3 data usage

How much unlimited data are we using with our N900T's? Lets post our usage for fun and see who uses the most. Describe what you do. Screen shots are nice.
I think my last billing cycle was about 20 gb?
What ROM do you suggest? I just rooted my phone a couple weeks ago. Looking for some good suggestions.
I was thinking about darthstalker or jedi... they seem to be pretty good.

I've only had my Note3 for 2 weeks, and haven't actually got to use it as much as I'd like yet, but, in the last 2 weeks I've used:
1.58G of 4G: Top 5 usage apps: Google Play, Google Music, Dropsync, Chrome, Speedtest
18.26GB of WiFi (loving my new WiFi AC): Top 5 apps: ES File Explorer, Google Music, "CloudAgent", Google Play, Plex
Pretty sure the "CloudAgent" is Samsung's thing that syncs dropbox photos to the gallery. That was a waste of 2GB, IMO.
So, by my next billing cycle I should've used about 3GB out 5GB 4G, and maybe 40GB of WiFi.
Not too bad, but not too hoggy either.

Stock, rooted, until CyanogenMod is released, and yeah, on the T-Mobile $30/mo prepaid plan for unlimited data. Still haven't hit the 5GB 4G cap yet to see I'll be throttled...

Yeah, the only way I could eat up that much data is if I streamed way more video (plex, netflix, or directly from my NAS via VPN). I'm usually near WiFi when I want to stream though.

Yeah if you have WiFi you are set. They do charge a lot for the unlimited data. I have unlimited but I also have a strong wifi connection at home, where I spend a good amount of my day other than being at work. It works out nicely. I just like the unlimited data just in case. Plus the give you the tethering which I also use quite a bit at work. :good:
You are stock rooted? Have you tried any other ROMs?
What is VPN?

Yeah that's true. It's just that money is kind of tight right now so it's a big expense for me. I don't make a whole lot of money anymore and I can barely pay for my food stamps. My disability check is what's keepin' my wife and I surviving right now. Just hard times :/

wicked?? where is that? what kind of things are changed in it? a buddy of mine flashed my galaxy epic for me a while back and mentioned something about a build file or something like that and changed a bunch of stuff in it. does this one have that? I really liked the device more after that it seemed faster. and thanks for the suggestion!!!!! i would thank your comment but it said i had a limit so im sorry there. ill get it tomorrow :good:
i am on the unlimited talk/text/data which is running me like 80 a month
to do the prepaid you have to pay off the whole phone right? i have jump and all that too
Most was last month = 10 gigs
I need to find a good ftp program and it will most likely increase
My highest was over 80gigs, Most due to tethering, Netflix & Torrents
60gigs ... Torrents and netflix ...

Kind of hard for me to use 1mb of data when my whole neighborhood is blanketed with GSM (EDGE).
I'm at 13GB for the month. Billing cycle ends tomorrow. I'll probably use less from now on because I was having trouble staying connected to my Dlink 655 WiFi router at home. Changed a couple of settings on the router and all is good now
