[Q] android.process.media - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I've searched all over, and I cannot find any solution to this problem.
When I have google music app installed, android.process.media is constantly running in the background and it keeps the phone in a wake state.
HOWEVER, this is only when I am connected to wifi.
While on 3g/4g, it no longer runs.
Killing it does nothing as it restarts immediately. Freezing the music app doesn't stop it either. Only uninstalling the app works. In the app settings, I have anything wifi related unchecked (stream only on wifi, download only on wifi). Besides, all thumbnails are loaded, so I don't know what it's doing.
Also, the process kills itself and restarts approximately every 20 seconds, like it's in a loop.
I though there might be a corrupt file on the sd partition so I wiped that completely along with the rest of the system. Problem still persists.
I don't know what to do. I use wifi at home, and google music is my primary player. I'd hate to switch.
Any advice is appreciated.

you probably have "download via wifi only" enabled in the bsetting. anyways, turn on "offline music only" when you press menu in the google music app. see if that helps.

possible that it's just caching your music and you have it set to only download on WiFi.

"mediaserver" eats up my CPU

Hi there. I'm running the OTA FroYo, I've never rooted my phone and never probably will I didn't have any problems with it so far. I've made numerous 720p recordings without problems but this morning when I pressed record the app froze - all labels and icons disappeared and only the camera feed remained. Then when I closed the app my battery started draining fast. With OS Monitor I pinpointed the culprit - mediaserver. It's a system process and I can't kill. I tried killing all apps with a task killer with no luck. When I restart the phone the mediaserver doesn't do any problem until I turn on the camcorder app even if I don't press record. And even if I press record it just freezes again... I tied changing codecs and different settings and making numerous reboots but apparently those things didn't work at all...
So does anybody have an idea how to fix that? Have anybody experienced a similar problem?
I have this same issue. My phone went from 100% at 7am to 15% just before 11am because I made a video last night and didn't reboot the phone afterward. This has only happened since the 2.2 update.
It's good to hear it's not just me... Hope there's a way to resolve the issue. Can we somehow send an inquiry to HTC?
I have the media service running on my orange UK 2.1 phone... I stop it.. nothing happens.. all my pics work fine.. music etc...
just out of interest i had this problem when i had NimBuzz installed and it was on auto login, when i turned auto login on start-up off mediaserver goes.
just an idea
have not got numbuzz or any " extra " music" apps....
I had the same problem after upgrading to 2.2. Wiping my data and settings fixed it.
I don't have Nimbuzz as well...
Well, I hope there's another way to do it. I don't want to erase my data and settings :/
Wow! I just tried recording a video and it worked like a charm! The problem has magically dissapeared! I tried so many things so I can't really point out which one actually worked. Basically I think changing the video codec, unmounting/mounting the SD card (I did it by connecting the phone to the pc as a data device) and restarting the phone helped. I did those things several times in different orders.

Issue with losing data connection as soon as screen turns off

Hi all,
I have the strangest issue with my phone:
Whenever i'm streaming any music or podcasts on my phone (3g connection), the playback works perfectly for a couple of minutes and then it quits and does not resume until i turn the screen on again. As background, I was using the Android Revolution for a couple of months and was thinking that this might be caused by some sort of power saving feature, that cuts the data once the screen is turned off. I'm back to stock now and I'm still having the same issue. This is not application-related, since the same thing is happening with pocketcasts, spotify and google play music.
Can't find any other threads with the same kind of description of the issue, so I'm thinking I'm alone with the issue. The only thing I can think of would be my mobile service provider, but it makes no sense that the data connection would drop immediately when the screen is turned off. Also, the sleep mode has no effect on the issue.
Does anyone have any ideas!?
Try turning off SLEEP MODE from the power tab under settings.

Power Saver Mode (done by HTC) has an option that Disables data every time the screen goes off.
Although while I am streaming music on soundcloud , It still works with screen Off .

Just to let you guys know, that this was in fact caused by Android Revolution. I switched back to stock rom and was having issues with the play store not downloading apps that you have selected from the browser-based store. Had the same kind of issues with AR, so was thinking that the problem is still continuing. Used the stock rom over the weekend and noticed that even though i'm getting the random pause in music every now and then, the overall experience is way better.

Apps restarting randomly

Hey guys, over the past 5 days of using this phone I have noticed a few odd things. One that is really annoying is some apps just close and open again. Not an Android force close, there is no notification, the app just stops and instantly restarts. Apps this happens the most with is The Chive and Gmail. I've used a lot of other apps but these two are the worst. And Gmail is an important app, I use it a lot.
Has anyone else had this issue? Any ideas what could be causing this? Along with the poor battery, this is making a great piece of hardware unusable. Any info on this would be appreciated.
Cheer's!!!
I haven't noticed your issues, but I have had very inconsistent results with video streaming apps from TV and cable networks and my cable provider (xfinity from comcast in the US) that range from force closing to just not being to load videos.

Has never happened to me in Gmail. I use it a lot with 3 different accounts. But force closes are closely related to memory leaks that are very abundant in 5.0. But since others dont seem to be experiencing this issue, I'd recommend a flash of the latest firmware and a complete wipe (if possible). Do you have any memory manager apps? If so that could be an issue too.

Yeah I've had odd reactions with videos too including lags which shouldn't happen - given the hardware specs.

Having the same issue. looks like it happens like once every 30 minutes to me, no matter the app. going to wipe data and do a firmware update, let's see how it goes.
I have this issue (crashing apps randomly /w no error) in particular music apps like DI.FM, Google Music, and Audible while driving. The phone is not (directly) in use by me as I use a 3.5mm or Bluetooth an initially pressing the pay button before starting my trip. This is frustrating because it randomly crashes (no notification) while I am busy driving and I have to pull to the side of the road and start it again (safety). Sometimes the crashing will not happen for hours at a time (and I enjoy the audio), other times it happens every few minutes (and I get fed up and give up on the phone wanting to put it under the tire).
I was trying to find a good way to log the error but I am too inexperienced and just go frustrated after a while as I could not find a way to log it while it was in use (playing audio) during my transit.

TA-1043 Occasional freeze

So, i have a TA 1043 in Romania and from time to time, apps freeze. The phone is on 8.1. After the update to 8.1 i did a factory reset, but the freezing continued. And also it randomly restarts. Anyone experienced this?
I have no issue with restarts, but sometimes my phone is really slow, when I update apps from the Play Store, maybe when I enable Wi-Fi, or something, I don't know...
But, my Google app crash often, I also tried to delete data for it and set it up again, but the results are same.
Mostly the stock camera and facebook get stuck. Sometimes chrome. It's a strange behavior

Apps Randomly Closing. How to stop this?

I am using, for example Notification toggles and Volume Booster App. After several hours or so they automatically close and I have to keep launching them again. I've tried everything and gone through batter and power management and allowed these apps to run automatically but they keep closing.
Never had this issue with Sony in the past. Any solution??
I have the same issue
And when not using my device for several hours I don't receive any WhatsApp messages or emails. Once unlocking the phone all messages from through.
Sometimes I have to even turn it off and on again as the mobile data stops working. I've not had this issue before. Any solution?
Since last two updates same here for me some apps auto closes and even dont receive notification on time for few apps
I've followed these tips to prevent Tasker and Blokada from being killed. Working fine ever since.

Is it not because of Phone Manager closing some apps automatically? Oddly enough when using Chrome and Brave, only Brave gets closed while Chrome stays opened.
