I need some guidance - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Could someone give me the steps on how to install MIUIv4 on my R800x?
I know that I need to flash kernel, firmware and the conversion zip from the cm9 nightlies thread. I just don't know the order in which I need to do said things, or whether there's another step I don't know about.

You need an unlocked bootloader. After you got it unlocked, flash the kernel, then the rom and then the "conversion zip". Note that I do not have a R800x.

Do I have to make any changes to my firmware version?
I also haven't activated the phone yet so would that affect the process in any way?

Are you on the latest baseband? it's something like 1290_10-03.. that's what firmware you need to be on. Then activate your phone otherwise it will give you a huge mess of problems then follow the steps above me I'm and X user too so don't worry

So I change the firmware to the latest version and activate the phone. The phone is going to prompt me to update once its activated so I ignore the OTA right?

I always ignore it. It's just 2.3.4 not a full fledged system update

Last questions. How do I actually update the baseband? Would downloading to the stock .62 firmware work on my phone?

No, you need verizon's 2.3.3 ftf file and flashtool. go to your "about phone" option in the settings to see if you're already on it, if not then there will be a few things you'll need before flashing a rom
Edit: wait maybe the .62 is the 2.3.3 lol I hate cdma!!!

[Q] How to back up app data & settings without root and Ultimate Backup Tool?

Hi, everyone. I can't seem to find the solution for my prob, so I've to ask for ur knowledge on this.
Problem:
I'm using Xperia Arc with latest stock firmware without root. And I want to back up my app data & settings before resetting or flashing it.
Attempt:
I've tried Ultimate Backup Tool, but to no avail, just as mentioned in the Ultimate Backup Tool thread that there are known problem with Xperia Arc as one of the Sony 2011 devices.
I've looked through all the rooting methods for Xperia Arc, and I can't seem to find or perform a working root on the phone without flashing it. Naturally, Titanium Backup can't work as well.
Question:
So, what options do I have to back up the app data & settings now? And I'm looking that whether will a flash necessarily wipe the data on ur phone? Can I retain the data even after flashing the phone?
Really appreciate for ur help. Thx~ =)

You can't, it's not possible to access and backup app data while your phone is not rooted. Are you on GB or ICS?
BTW, you don't have to flash your phone to root unless you have to downgrade. In the instance for ICS .587, I only need to flash the kernel of .562, root it via adb, then flash back the .587 kernel. This should not wipe your data.

Thx a lot for ur reply. I'm on ICS .587 too. I was just afraid that flashing would wipe the data. And now this is clear.
Seems like this is the only option that I have, right? Btw, won't flashing it back to the latest firmware lose the root? Bcuz I used to have root, but I lost it when I updated my phone through official update methods. Or is that why I lost root?

You lose root from both flashing stock firmware and updating through official updating methods.... at least for locked boot loaders

Yes, flashing will lose your root, so does updating it via the official method. Flashing the entire ROM would wipe the data, but flashing the kernel does not.

Really? Then, what's the point of downgrade the firmware then upgrade again? Lol~
So, does that mean that with unlocked bootloader, I can keep root even after upgraded?

You can't root the latest firmware so you have to downgrade to root. You then upgrade by flashing the latest firmware's kernel which upgrades the firmware to the latest version and also keeps root status.
As for unlocked bootloaders, I can't comment because I have no experience with them

I think I got u wrongly before this. Lol. Bcuz you said that flashing it to the latest firmware will lose root. Or do you mean just stock firmware?
While for unlocked bootloader, can popthosegaskets or anyone else share the insight? Thx.

Nope. You flash the kernel of the latest version of stock firmware. Here's an example

Anyways, I tried flashing the .587 kernel on my .562 stock. My firmware version still read .562, so I don't think flashing kernel will update firmware on unlocked bootloader.
As for rooting the latest firmware, you can update first, downgrade the kernel and root. You can keep data this way and get root.

Yeah, when you unlock bootloader, you also remove DRM keys that connect to Sony servers. So Track ID, Playnow and other Sony services won't work anymore. You also cannot use OTA updates as it will brick your phone.

Hmm~ I'm aware of that. But from first impression, it seems like they're not that important, since apps like Playnow are not useful. The only one that I use is TrackID, which I saw Sony published it on Play Store for public download. Sounds like it's fine to lose the DRM key too. Lol.
Arc S kernel and Arc kernel is different. Don't flash or it may cause problems.

[Q] N7100 Help Service State: Out Of Service. And More.

Dear all,
Well I dont know where to start. But here is what happened with my N7100 Note 2.
I was on the latest 4.4.2, the phone restarted suddenly one day and it just dont boot stuck at samsung logo,
flashed the 4.4.2 stock from sammobile. and it worked fine everything was perfect for a week, till it happened again
flashed the same rom. and here is where the trouble begins.
The IMEI changed to generic 00499XXX.., Serial No: 000000
i managed to downgrade to 4.1.2 with mobile odin, flashed a lot of stocks and customs as well. And after a very hard work for a week i manage to get back my IMEI and serial number back, now I backed up my EFS learned my lesson
Now i flashed the stock rom 4.1.1, phone is unlocked. cant make calls, or sms or data internet.
Now I have service: out of service, Bluetooth address: unavailable (while its in the efs folder the mac is in the file), Device status modified, And when I connect it to USB it wont recognize the phone until I have to dial *#7284# and change USB from modem to PDA, then save and reset. (EVERYTIME) I need a permanent fix as well for that.
Please I need help with those as i cant make my phone work.
Thanks and regards,
Mohamed Selim.
First and most important:
If you ever were on stock 4.4.x you can't downgrade to 4.1.x because of knoxed bootloader.
What you did with mobile odin was no real downgrade cause your bootloader wasn't touched.
Don't try to flash firmware beyond your current bootloader version.
Install Samsung Phone Info app from play store and look for actual bootloader version.

As I said before: YOU DID NOT DOWNGRADE firmware to 4.1.2 with Mobile Odin, check with Info app from Samsung:
You will find bootloader between *ND3 and *NI1 and all are 4.4.2 KitKat
So, whatever firmware you try to flash under 4.4.2 is supposed to fail.

Mobile Odin does everything but doesn't flash bootloader so it is like flashing a custom rom which also doesn't contain bootloader.
PC Odin flashes complete firmware, so this is the only way to really up- or downgrade. Hope you understand the difference.
The only solution I see for you is to concentrate on 4.4.2 equal or up your actual bootloader version.

There is indeed no solution on 4.1.1 and the screenshot doesn't show bootloader version. To believe what I say try to find out what BL version you are on. If it shows XXUFND3 up to XXUFNI1 you have the proof.

XXUFND3 was the first KitKat firmware for N7100 and yours was the second.
Three options:
1) Flash firmware using PC Odin at least ND4, maybe better NE1 or up
2) Flash through recovery any stock KitKat custom rom provided by wesamothman, cosmyndemeter or me
3) Flash through recovery any KitKat custom rom you like from development section here
4.3 custom roms may work also, but not 100% sure.
Beyond 4.3 I wouldn't recommend.

will I need to reroot and unlock bootloader after?
Is there a risk of bricking.

The easiest way is to get s off, then go superCID
You download the firmware zip, rename it to 0P6BIMG.zip. Put that on your extCSD and boot into hboot.
That's it. Your phone does the rest.
You can read more about it here.

I understand you not wanting to mess your phone. It is always best not to proceed if you are unsure.
I'm not sure what carrier you are on, but for the normal international model, you will want to download this firmware to use in the method I explained.
Some American carriers have different firmware, so if you on an American carrier, let me know which one and I will provide you with the proper download to update to 4.4.4
The best thing about this method over an RUU is that you won't lose any data.

Hi thanks for the help its appreciated. I have the UK and carrier is O2. Just so I'm clear after fw update all I need to do is update to a 4.4.4 rom? I do have HTC backup and a full tarp backup is that sufficient to restore my phone after thanks again.

Yep, that's right. The HTC backup I wouldn't worry about. They aren't as good as TWPR's. Flash the firmware from the link I provided, then install a 4.4.4 ROM.

Indian Variant
Flash fire ain't working phone just reboots with no changes
can i install on retbr?
I think the location version does not matter as long as you have the right build number. I had retla .15 and tried to flash .35 in order to update to .67 (fail), the ota ask for .14/.15. So I had to install stock .15 again and redo the process.
Something I'd like to add is the stock recovery did not recognize internal or sd storage, so I had to push ota via ADB.
*Also my warning bootscreen changed from N/A to Bad Key multiple times for apparently no reason. But everything is working fine.
Pls tell me how u went back to 15 plsss

Exactly what I have been trying to tell. There is a fingerprint mismatch that happens. On a side note how did you manage to take yourself back from .35 to .15 and then update to .67. I get the last part, but downgrading with a higher bootloader; and where did you get the .15 build
You can simply install one of the stock versions already posted here in the forum, I just downloaded the .15 and installed it again via fastboot with the command lines (also explained in that post, in comments) like any other stock rom. Then, after starting the phone you must activate USB debbuging mode to be able to use ADB commands, so you can restart the phone in stock recovery and activate the push ota update via ADB.
Anyway, if this sounds complicated I think there is already a flashable .zip to apply ota, you can give it a try.

But mine version is on NPPS26.102-63-1
Will this version be released?
And if I try to flash .49 version will I get error?
Thanks a lot
I think I found one place where it's suposed to host the "MONTANA_NPP26.102-63_cid50_subsidy-DEFAULT_regulatory-DEFAULT_CFC.xml.zip" file, but it's a paid download site.
i'm not going to pay to download because money in Brazil is something very scarce especially for something charged in dollar :silly:
if you wanna try, here is: https://www.top-firmware.com/index.php?a=browse&b=file-info&id=26032
and if in any case you get this file, please share with us

So my guess is, we can still flash .49 version rom even we're on higher version. (just simply not to flash gpt.bin, this cause error when your version is newer than .49)
And after installed .49 version, we will receive OTA update then we update it?
Not sure if this is the correct way to get back to stock rom and relock the bootloader...

To relock the bootloader you'll need a firmware more recent than the previous one you installed. If you had the .49-1 installed, you'll may need to wait for one more recent firmware popout as this .49 will give errors while installing (the "oem lock begin" command only locks the bootloader if you install every single file from the firmware, which will fail because an lower version of the firmware was installed).
In short: you can get back to stock but can't relock bootloader unless you didn't installed the OTA .49-1 or have an more recent firmware available

Yes, you can update without worries. Just remember to maintain your system untouched before any update. If you root or install custom recovery, the update will fail and may get into a boot loop

So I'm currently running NPPS26.102-63-1 , and my bootloader is unlocked. Am I still capable for OTA update? And if I decided to install custom recovery and rom, can I flash .49 version stock rom?

You can upgrade through OTA with unlocked bootloader, you only can't if you modify your system. But if you are running .63-1 I'm not certain about reinstalling the .49 ROM as they may be different, like different modem or other resources like NFC resulting in bricking. Test at your own risk. I'd like to test .63 ROM, but I can't find any free places to download it.
(Or if you want you can also try the ZUI ROM, it's a stock rom from a chinese moto g5s with ZUI interface)

So the reason is the latest firmware for locking bootloader
Untill now I have thought that the problem is with only my device can we ask for Motorola for the latest firmware releases so that we can relock our bootloader

They used to have a site for you to download firmware, but it hasn't been updated like 3years... Even Moto support doesn't know where to get it..
