[Q] HD2 vs HOX battery life - HTC One X

Good day.
I am about 2 years on my HD2 running MIUI rom and am very happy with it, however always searching for a new phone. All is good except the internal storage always get full )) And the new HTC One X looks perfect for me, thats what I want.
Have read a lot of topics here regarding the battery life and this looks not as good... so just to ask has anybody switched from HTC HD2 to HTC One X and what the difference in battery life you noticed? Is it better comparing with HD2 or worse if you use it the same way?
I can get 2 days on my HD2 on MIUI rom with a few usage (30 min internet, 20 min calls, 5 sms, push/15 min). On normal usage I get 1 full day. (30 min GPS WAZE, 60 min internet, 30 min calls, push/15 min)

Never used a HD2 but the one x screen is a monster battery drain. I've never got anywhere near 2 days with any roms unless I just keep it in my pocket and don't use it lol. I see limited battery life as a trade off for the brilliant screen.
Might be worth asking on the galaxy s3 forum about their battery life?

I have made the same move, moved from extreme hyperdroid HD2 to HOX (1.29.xxx.11) two months ago, and here is what I have found so far.
As many HOX owners say here, HOX is a battery eater, mainly due to its huge screen and 40nm multi core processor.
Even with an extra 570mAH juice, it may not last for whole day on heavy use, as the companion core won't save the juice while the phone is in use. On the other hand if you are not a heavy user as you have mentioned above, probably you won't have to worry about the battery life.
On a direct comparison between the two :
1. Battery
With the same usage amount while I commute by train (about 70 min of screen on, music and web browsing), HD2 left with 65% of battery while HOX had 74%.
2. Signal Strength
Both WiFi and 3G signal strengths are somewhat better than HD2. I'm on the same Optus network and where HD2 couldn't get the signal, HOX could get at least 1 bar.
3. Screen, weight and other performance
No need to mention it, they are not in the same league. HOX is lighter, bigger, brighter, clearer, faster and more stable. No need for overclocking, under voltaging, testing different kernels etc.
Cons : As the development of HOX is still in an early stage, it may have some glitches, eg. SD card storage problem which is fixed in .11 firmware etc. However I'm sure such wrinkles will be ironed out soon.

pixiedixie, thanks for that. I well understand that HOX is a great battery eater, but as I can see from your post the battery will last a bit longer with the same tasks comparing to HD2. That's good, cause nobody wants to downgrade ))
Well mentioning the development, I think that will be solved sooner or later. You know... HD2 was running WinMo 6.5 before... ))

Hi mate, waiting for my HOX, to arrive, have a Sensation at the moment, which has the energy Rom, but son needs new phone sick of the HD2 (Energy Rom also) so a phone shuffle, I am also on Optus, what's your opinion of the HOX ?, and what's it like on Optus for Data ?

Had a HD2 for 2.5 yrs ... first, on Hyperdroid GB ... then, Tytung ICS. Bought my HOX a month back.
Overall, HOX is better in all respects.
Specifically,
1. Battery: I used to get a full day from HD2. Charge before sleeping, disconnect in morning. Same for HOX. Medium user. Get 17 hours with around 4.5 hrs screen time, 3G always on.
2. Wifi much faster in HOX.
3. Screen much better, especially in sunlight. Much faster in opening big apps. Smoother. No lags.
4. Have read about various issues in HOX. I have a perfect HOX.
5. Stock ROM in HOX is excellent. Don't find the need to flash.
HD2 was an awesome phone ... with Android. I liked it. However, HOX seems better in all respects.
cheers,

Just to move it a little up? Anybody else?

Same here 2.5years with HD2/hyperdroidcm7/fikret.... was happy with hd2.... but now my hands are scratching... HOX vs S3... so confused...
hox = good looks,good screen,less than s3 battery life..
VS
s3 = better battery, sd-slot, no heating problem,
think i would wait for 2 more week for S3 to be displayed in store.
Than I will choose.. But Still..... SO CONFUSED...
It's weird.... I start on android 1.5years back, kept became a flasholic coz it wasnt perfect. 3 months back I stopped as I found the perfect combination of hyperdroidcm7 and fikret kernel... so i stopped flashing... and now I'm bored of the phone... Sometimes I wonder if I want to purchase my phone just to keep installing custom rom... lol..

battery using internet on wifi can be compared to about 1% per minute. while downloading or playing heavy 3d games its aprox 2 ~ 4 % per minute.
battery is very poor, and the tegra 3 is power hungry... these two do not combine at all!

I am getting better battery life in my hox . 18 hours off the charger and auto brightness on and 1.30 hours of on screen and 30 min of voice call and still 56 percent left.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2

Thanks for the info, guys! That's what I want to hear. ))
sygys, strange to hear... my old HD2 with 3 years old battery loses around... hmm, 1% of... I don't know - 5 minutes or more of internet. When gaming, Angry Birds e.g. that's around 1% per 1-2 minutes.
May be thats more reasonable for you to take your device for repairs if the warranty is not void?

I found that it's very dependent on your rom and kernel and how efficient it's at standby. Here's my usual HD2 battery life on light-medium usage. I would think the one x would last longer if its rom and kernel was just as optimized.

HD2 > HOX
Had an HD2 rooted to headyhoneybadger CM7
A marvelous beast.
Solid as a rock, loved it.
Had extended battery. Heavy user, internet web sites, email, facebook, texts
With the extended battery always had a full day's heavy use.
Got a HOX.
Can't get an extended battery, nowhere to put it!
Recharging throughout the day.
Got an Anker Astro 3 (10000 mAh battery) In case no car or wall socket around.
Phone gets hot sometimes, really hot. Once, while charging, too hot to keep charging!
Haven't felt the need to root. (don't feel the need for titanium, don't cheat apps, backup all my settings and data anyway. Use Deja Office w/ Outlook)
87 apps
Runs faster than, well Fast. Screen is a gem.
Running Nova Launcher.
Got ICS Enhanced Ringer Control to fix the ganging of ring and notification sound levels bug in ICS
I Loved my HD2, sad when I Ebay'ed it.
The guy who won it way buying it for his brother.
He had one. He also had bought one for his cousin in Guatemala.
ICS is great. HOX is a great phone, very stable.
I made the right move. Battery, heat, and all, it's a great machine.
I have owned the following HTC Phones:
Under AT&T (and Cingular):
SX56
SX66
8125
X7500
X7510
Under T-Mobile:
HD2
Back to AT&T:

What sort of battery performance are people seeing?

So I've had my Defy a week and I like it, more than I thought I would to be honest.
However, one thing that's bugging me is the battery life.
In their review, Engadget actually highlighted the battery life as one of the big plus-points of the Defy.
They state:
Engadget said:
In our experience, the Defy seems to have stellar battery life, which is relatively hard to come by among Android phones. Not only we were able to consistently make it comfortably through an entire day on a charge, but we were surprised to find that after putting the phone away with about 75 percent charge, it was still on with 21 percent remaining two days later. Granted, it spent most of that time in WiFi calling range (which disables the cellular radio), but many smartphones give up the ghost from 100 percent charge in less time...

Now, I'm not using wi-fi calling but I don't think that should excuse or explain the fact that my phone barely lasts a day when at least one other handset has such significantly better battery life.
Anyway, I was just wondering how everyone else's Defys were performing.
Im coming from a vibrant and the battery on this is the best on android so far that i've ever used(g1, mytouch, mytouch 4, vibrant, etc.

If you don't mind me asking though, how long do you go between charges?
As I said, I'm lucky if I make it much more than a day - certainly two days isn't possible.
But I'm not a particularly heavy user, a bit of internet and a few texts here and there but very little in the way of calls, so I kind of feel like I should be getting more out of the handset.
When I check the battery usage, it's quite often ~40% each for 'Mobile Standby' and 'Phone Idle'.
So the vast majority of the drain is just from the phone being on, not from anything I'm actively doing.
Is this your first smartphone? =)
I go a day and a half or so. I'm heavy on web use and playing 'slice it' all day.
for my usage, im THRILLED to have a phone that can still have 30-40% at the end of a long day.

Just try to reboot the phone after fully charged and detached from power. There is an issue with the "suspend" process in some cases (not only on Froyo 2.2) which disappears after rebooting. Mine lasts 2-3 days with average use.
The issue at Google (I am not allowed to post links as a new user )
code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=11126
I can use the web steady for 5 hours, this includes some streaming video, if I start at 100% its down to 10% by then. At work it lasts easily all day but it gets little web usage and maybe an hour of talking. I use battery booster and advanced task killer, my backlight is set at 70%.
With moderate use (some calls, lots of texts, some web browsing) I get 2 days. It needs to be charged at the end of day 2, but I'm happy with it. I don't have any ot the social networking crap on so it's not constantly syncing. I think that may have something to do with it. I keep my backlight way down too.
Battery life? i got defy just a week ago and first impressions are good. You know, in the first days you make yuor phone working a lot, testing all the features, trying new apps from the market (so internet connection always on) , watching some movies, playing 3d games!
So a really heavy use, but power lasts at least 1,5 days. So i think using the phone moderately makes the battery life easily up to 3 days.
Try some task-killer app, and then test the power duration. Some softwares stay in background and keep draining power.

No.
And I don't see what that's got to do with anything.
My battery life seems to be noticeably poorer than what the majority of people here are quoting.
If I were to use the web for 5 hours, there's no way I'd have anywhere near 30-40% of my battery left.

Having looked at your link, it sounds as though when that's happening, people can see the Suspend process listed in the break-down of what's using the battery.
I've never seen it listed, so I'm not sure that's the problem here.

I've got Spare Parts installed and it's set to 'aggressively' monitor and kill processes.
A friend recommended it over the likes of Advanced Task Killer because it's supposed to be better at differentiating between apps that are safe to kill and parts of the core software/system that could cause issues if closed.
I get what you're saying about using the phone more than normal because it's new but in the 8 days since I got it, I've spent 7 at work, so I haven't had that much scope to mess around with it.
I've switched the screen from automatic brightness control and I've disabled the background syncing for facebook, so hopefully that'll make a difference.
If not, since it's just over a week, I'm well inside the 28 days I can have it swapped for being faulty.
Quadrant: 1100 points, Linpack: 6,49 Mflops
Edit: ooops, should read the title more carefully next time.
My defy runs for about 40 hours on one battery charge.
i have to charge mine everyday at night after using it whole day, time to time. Not bad tbh.
A task killer is NOT necessary.
It seems like blur services are push rather than pull which uses much less battery (think blackberry). But im not 100%.
I've set up yahoo, corporate, facebook, and picasa just to test it out and it didn't make much difference in my battery life.
I consistently get a day and a half (unless i play games). Can push to 2 days if i put on airplane mode overnight.

Found this on a german forum, as you can see, he was not in flight mode. I guess my desire's battery won't last that long.
I can go about one full day with moderate/somewhat heavy usage. Won't last 2 full days though.

People keep saying that but I'm not convinced.
I mean, if I use my browser say and then finish using it and know I won't need it again for a while, why prevent me from actually closing/killing it?
It seems so ridiculously counter-intuitive.
Plus, if it's really not necessary, then why are so many of them being developed?
Even Samsung are producing task managers now for devices like the Galaxy Tab - if it really wasn't necessary, surely one of Google's top hardware partners would know that.
And samsung is so great at making stuff...? Touchwiz??
Also, samsung's task killer does not show inactive or background apps like most task killers do.
What is the harm in the browser being open? It uses no cpu+ this phone has more than enough ram that it doesn't need you to close apps to keep things running smoothly.
It also will not improve your battery if you arbitrarily close an app only to re-open it later and use more processes.
Just my 2 cents on this topic.

Something i already posted in a german forum about my battery life:
2,5h gaming (Zenonia),
3h mobile internet (ICQ, Yahoo-mail, web, market)
2h of activated WLAN and deactivated sleep to copy stuff from pc to Defy
1,5h music (radio)
and 1h (and 6 minutes lol) of phone calls
After that day, i still had 30% of battery.
The maximum i reached were 75 hours including MY normal use with some mobile internet, some texting and 1 or 2 calls...maybe an hour of gaming at most.
I did not charge it first when i got it, because the battery was at 80% already/still and i wanted to play around.
Current running time: 26 hours...i activate plane-mode at night from now on. Low 70s now.
Everything at minimum display brightness (30%?)

In my opinion, a task killer is absolutely necessary.
All the apps launched keep consuming RAM even if they're not in use. I brought back 106 mb last time i performed a task killing! In most of the cases less ram means worst performances / more work for cpu.

My biggest gripe with this phone: Battery Life

I LOVE the Galaxy Nexus, but the rate at which the battery discharges is just ridiculous. I'll use the phone for 15 minutes doing things like Twitter or Web Browsing, and it'll discharge 5% in that time. To me, that is horrible. I'm being really conservative too. Throughout a day I try not to play videos, games, or anything else intensive because I know it'll ruin my battery life. Even on standby it discharges 5% in an hour. Typically I lose about 10% an hour and my max has been 12 hours so far.
I have auto sync turned on and keep the screen low when possible. I NEED auto sync on because of the nature of my work. Compared to my iPhone 4S battery is downright pathetic.
Today my usage consisted of one phone call, a few text messages, lots of Twitter, and light web browsing. Nothing too crazy. Again I'm being really conservative with my usage whereas on my iPhone I can do whatever I want and not worry. I'm just not seeing how people are getting 15+ hours and claim heavy usage. I'd love to believe that! The battery drains so fast during normal usage it may be a deal breaker for me.

It sounds like your definition of light usage is wrong.
I wouldn't consider heaps of twitter and some web browsing light usage. I would consider it moderate usage, in which case you seem to be in line with everyone else.
I agree with you in that the battery life isn't quite what I would have liked. Ideally I wouldn't have to worry about battery at all, and I'd be able to play games and browse the web as much as I like, but for normal usage it's fine.
The next Nexus though, man, that will only have to be charged once a month. I can't wait.

Twitter hardly taxes the processors at all. Refreshing it every so often should hardly take any battery life at all. Web Browsing I can understand, but my total time browsing today probably amounts to 10 minutes total.
I wonder how much of the drain is attributed to the 4.65" screen. It's a monster.

I expect the battery life go improve within the first few cycles. I had a similar experience with the Nexus S last year.

Most of it. 720p Super AMOLED HD is killing the battery. The only way to last a long time is to not turn the screen on.

almost 3hours of screen from 10h standby!! mate give us a break and get back 4s. !!
heavy usage not low!
i can see low signal (coverage) what can also produce higher battery drain.
twiter running 24/7 in backround sync on + wifi + games...
i dont know what you want... you will never get anything similar from for example HTC sensation or even your favourite 4s.
dont take it on bad way..but if you dont know what to do - try to save your battery..
-lower your screen britness
-remove/disable apps that are producing the heavy drain (use betterbatterystats app)
-stop playing games - if you wanna long life for your battery.
-etc...
Best regards
People using a G2x claim to get a day and a half... I'm lucky to get out of work. Push email for work is to blame I think. I get tons of emails (100 a day) and I think its taxing. From your pics, the screen used over 50% of it. That's a lot.
Sucks.
Also make sure your aren't turning on the screen every 5 minutes to check the status. Since your coming from an iOS, are you closing apps properly (back = close, home = minimize).
I'm not saying your crazy but just saying.

I had the same thing happen with the Nexus One. The battery wasn't that great but, got better after a few charge cycles.
I've never had a Android phone that could match the battery life of the Iphone. I can sit the iphone down at night without putting it on the charger and, if it's at 100% it will be at about 90-95% when I wake up. I did the same thing with my Mytouch 4G and, it was at 15%
To the OP, I would recommend keeping a charging cable with you when you out and about especially in your car. I've had car docks with a few of my android phones and, always keep the phone docked when I'm driving somewhere. It really helps.
What you also need to remember is this is the first release of ICS and is still in development so battery life my be improved in the next update. Like you mention iPhone4S there was massive battery leakage in the first release of IOS 5 which Apple apparently fixed in the newest update.. So maybe in the next update we can expect some bugs ironed out.
Used to only have ONLY 2-3 hours screen ON on my Vibrant so I know how SAmoled looks like.
I know iphone battery is good, but you need to consider the screen size too..
Get a spare battery with your "light usage", but I am thinking how much would it cost becoz of the NPC antenna.
Too good thing is, unlike iPhone, you can buy a spare battery and carry it with you.
3 hours of screen use is what the problem is. That is a long time. I wouldn't complain about that at all.

I already said I didn't play any games today and my screen brightness is low. For some reason Shadowgun stays in the battery info screen. I played the game two days ago and manually closed it out. Even after rebooting the phone its still there.
I'm being 100% real, stop trying to make excuses or act like I'm an iPhone fanboy. The Galaxy Nexus combined with ICS is the best phone I've ever used! I'm just terribly disappointed with the battery life.
Twittering all day is sucking up battery because of all the data use. Dude, youre not a light user with 3 hours screen time moderate, possibly heavy depending on background stuff sycing automatically. You have some tweaking to do, not whining.

3 hours is not that much. Seriously. It shouldn't be damn near dead after 10 hours. Imagine if I decided to play a game for 15 minutes or watch 2 YouTube videos.
I bet if people were getting an hour and half with this phone, all the fanboys here would say the same thing. "Man, an hour and a half is a long time! You should be happy with that!".

what is the Best extended battery so far , that gives me more hours ?

Hello all ,
sorry if it's duplicated question , but it's very urgent for me
I've made this topic before :
[Q] When it comes to heavy Continuous using .. which rom / Ker gives me more hours ?!
and as you can see , i tried almost everything to get more " screen on time "
someone told me to get extended battery
so , could anyone tell me please that is the best one so far ?
and how many extra hours i will get with this one ?
i mean in heavy using
thanx a lot ,
and sorry again
Either get the 2000mah samsung extended battery if you want to keep the slim profile, or get one of the brick sized extended batteries from ebay
any reports about this original Samsung one ?
is it better or the other ones ?
i don't care about size
cuz i have a Case-Mate tough and SPG neo hybrid and i guess they could handle it , right ?
so , any help about exact tested ones ?
Search. The. Fracking. Forum.
^ tried ..
but found many topics with tens of pages
so far i think the original extended battery feed me well
The best kernel is void.echo, excellent performance and battery.
I've got the Samsung 2000mAh battery and you get another cover with it as its slightly bigger. Got me 5 days with void.echo. WiFi on almost all the time. Hes a picture:

They're also bigger ones on eBay but theyre fat and ugly. They are 3500mAh. Never tried them, never will. Ruins the look of the phone. Heres a pic from eBay:
I would go for Samsung's 2000mAh. My ROM is WajkIUI with void.echo. I hate siyah, it drained my battery in 5 hours, i didnt even do anything!
thanx a lot
could you please post some screens about usage ?
specially screen on time
i got max 3 ~ 4 hours with my current stock one
what about yours ?
u could also get an external 1350 mah battery from samsung
there is a link of it somewhere here
and also one more think u can do
disable one core
lock it at 500 mhz full load
undervolt it
and do the same to the gpu

I've got the Samsung 2000mAh battery and you get another cover with it as its slightly bigger. Got me 5 days with void.echo. WiFi on almost all the time.

Really? 5 days? I would love to see some proof of that.
there's no rom\kernel combo wich give you that long juice time unless you turn your phone on, put it in "flight mode" and use it as a paper weight.
Anyways i manage to get about 30-40 hours of medium + usage with Anker 1900mAH battery.

It's actually very easy reaching 5 days with wifi always on and GSM... If in all the five days you turn the screen on like 1 hour total.
Those statements of "my phone lasted x hours" without any aditional info are completely useless.

true, gsm only saves looooooooots of battery but dont get mad if you wont receive some of the calls. im happy with phone lasting about 30-40 hours with avarage use, wifi always on brightness set to 0 unless going outside- auto , and pretty much it. better than my desire anyway

Regarding those chinese batterys off ebay.. I dont have any first hand experience with them.. I ordered a 3000mAh battery for my Samsung Galaxy S (the first one). It took maybe 2-3 weeks to arrive, and by that time I had already upgraded to a Samsung Galaxy S II. I sold the Galaxy S to a friend, gave her the huge battery when it arrived.. she later said that the bigger battery didnt last any longer than the official original Samsung battery! She also had a couple of other chinese batterys that fit the standard casing, and she said those ones didnt last as long. I personally didnt really notice a difference, but I was always tending to swap out batteries around 5pm when I finished work.
I've just ordered an official Samsung 2000mAh extended battery for my Samsung Galaxy S 2. And I'm starting to play with custom ROMs and kernels. I'll report back my findings when the battery gets here in 2-4 weeks. I'm currently struggling to get through an entire day.. auto brightness, 3g enabled, checking emails every now and then, facebook pushing data down at will, and often with music or FM radio playing through the earbuds.
I"ve got the Samsung Extended Battery with SensatioN Rom with Siyah Kernel.
With bare minimum usage, few phone calls, texting, no 3G connectivity, no Wifi, no music, no gaming, I can get over 5 days.
With normal usage, few phone calls every day, send few texts, internet via 3G or Wifi every now and then, email and weather sync set to every hour, few hours of music here and there gets me little over 2 days.
My heaviest usage was 5 hour continuous gaming without Wifi or 3G connectivity and the battery went from 100% to 12% in that 5 hours.
If you use the display a lot, then forget about getting days of usages on one charge. You might, at the lowest brightness settings, but I never bothered with it. I"ve had my display brightness set at one step above middle ever since I got this extended battery.
could you post screenshot of the " screen on time " please ?
because this is the real challenge for the battery
Better go for original samsung kit 2000 mah....
Please everyone i need numbers
my current stock one gives me max 3~4 screen on time
what about those ??
how many exactly it will gives me screen on time ?
help me on this way please
there is no point other users giving you their max screen time as usage will be very different.
I could say 2 hours of screen time, but I could have GPS connected, Wifi or 3G downloading massive file, music playing and other background tasks doing stuff all at once...
Or I could say 6 hours of screen time at lowest brightness setting while I typed out an essay with no Wifi or 3G, no music minimum background tasks. Almost using the phone as a typewriter.
What you are asking is like "how much farther will 40 litres of fuel get you in a particular car, compared to 30litres of fuel".
It depends on how you accelerate, whether aircon is on or off, are you going uphill or downhill, is it in city driving or highway driving??? People will give you different figures and unless their driving condition is exactly same as yours, the figures really mean nothing.
All you need to know is the extended battery is about 25% larger than stock, there for should give you 25% more usage time.

[Q] How's the stock battery life after all the updates?

So I understand from reviews from when the One X and XL were first released that the XL had better battery life than the X. But since then the X has seen a bunch of updates, so how's the battery life now? Are the two comparable or does the XL still have the advantage?
I'm looking at getting one of the two, but still can't decide between them...
battery life would go to the XL, until nvidia updates the Tegra 3 kernel, it doesn't help that we're using an ancient kernel. Once they do that whenever that may be, we should have better battery life.
Sent from my HTC One X using XDA
The XL has better battery life for general use... Until you start using LTE data, at which point it drains much quicker than the X (although the XL definitely has the best battery life of any LTE phone right now)
The X's battery life has gotten considerably better since release. I wouldn't say it's excellent now (a term reserved for phones such as the RAZR Maxx and Galaxy Note), but I get a day or so with brightness on auto, sync on, wifi connected now and then, a few calls, a decent amount of gaming and surfing, a fair bit of Spotify streaming, some tethering to my tablet and some stored and Youtube videos.
I mean, in a day where ALL of this happens, I'd probably get home with 5%, but never in danger of not being contactable. It uses next to no power while on standby (in case you're worried you'll run out before you get home) and once it finally shuts down, it'll give you another 10 minutes or so if you start it back up (not sure if that's a feature or a bug, but it's useful in an emergency).
I guess it's all based on what you need.
Has Nvidia said anything about the update on tegra drivers?

I have tried the following roms: android revolution, chameleon (that pokemon one), slim ics, cyanogenmod9, miui.
None of them improved my battery life appreciably in the sense that at no point did I go, wow, my battery is better. The battery lasts ME 8 hours, maximum. I didn't do any scientific tests with the different ROMs. It seems to me that by FAR the dominant determinant of battery life is the screen. When I see the battery logs/graphs of people on this forum, they report that the X (the international version) can last 24 hours, etc. Really, all that is needed is the screen on time. Why? Because we already know that you can leave this phone on standby for days and days. This is something that nvidia really go right. But wow, that screen, it sucks the juice dry like nobody's business.
When I see logs/graphs that show that the screen is 33% of the battery's usage, I take that to mean that either the phone was not being used much, or was just being used to talk/listen to music, but it definitely could not have been on for very long, or it was on at the lowest possible setting. With my usage patterns, when I'm actually looking at the screen (surfing, writing emails, reading a book) my screen takes up 70% of the battery's juice. On autobrightness, my screen can be on for 3 hrs, 15 minutes. I do not believe I have a faulty battery, nor do I believe that I have a faulty phone. I believe that this is just the way that the One X truly performs. I'm going to pay attention to the iphone 4's screen on time, but before I go and run the test, my impression is that it is around the 5 hour range.
I have no issues with the one x's standby time. It basically doesnt use any power on standby.
The key for me is not that I wish for some magical advances in technology right now. My benchmark is how does this phone perform with regard to the latest and greatest out there? And my impression is that it is a step behind. I'm currently testing my iphone4, and will pay attention to the usage. But all I can tell you is that my usage patterns haven't changed over the last 2 years, while my phone has. My iphone 4 can last me throughout the day, but this one x, most definitely does not. I was completely blown away by the anandtech review that stated that the one x from AT&T, was absolutely the most battery efficient phone currently in production. I have the one x int'l version, and it is still no slouch and compares favorably to the 2 yr old iphone 4 acc to anandtech's batt benhmarks. So when I got my one x int'l version, I was astonishingly disappointed.
That said, I would not take anandtech's benchmarks literally. They're good for relative comparisons. They're also famous for showing how battery efficient the macs are, and in no way do I ever approach the battery runtimes they report.
To me the only remaining question is if getting the S4 processor inside my phone would improve battery life to iphone 4 levels. I believe that it may, even though I just said that screen time is the dominant factor. I do recall noticing that when I'm just reading an ebook, and the processor is idling, the battery drain isn't actually nearly as fast. So maybe the cpu will improve. My biggest dilemma is whether having updated, rewritten drivers for the tegra 3 really can do wonders. I am skeptical that a) this will ever be done in a timely fashion b) if drivers will have a big enough effect on a fundamentally older architecture and manufacturing process. As we know the tegra 3 uses a 40 nm process, while the S4 uses a 28 nm process.
Truth be told, in all honesty--my biggest mistake was ever buying the iphone 4. For all that that phone can not do, and my philosophical differences with their approach to products, I did not realize until now that the things that that phone does, it does incomparably well...and that phone has checked off all the right boxes for me: battery life, perceived speed, gorgeous screen, design, etc.
Are there two kernels? The ICS kernel and the tegra 3 kernel? When I put cyanogenmod9, I have the ICS kernel, right? We have no control over the tegra 3 kernel? Just not sure if ICS source code can affect the tegra3 kernel.
My one x easily out performs my gnex and gs2 in battery and I don't tippy toe with my phone either emails, widgets, browsing, downloading, auto brightness its a powerful phone don't see why I should run it conservative especially when it can handle the pressure easily if I want conservative ill buy a Nokia
I agree with lamenramen I hate people posting screen shots of their phone on standby times its effing pointless because they've left their phone on standby for three days and haven't touched it what's the point of showing those stats if your not using the damn phone its as useless as posting up a picture of tree

Imo with future updates from HTC and the tegra3 update from Nvidia optimised for ICS we'll see battery life improvements.

[Q] HTC One X battery Life

Hello everyone. I was planning to buy the HTC One X, but heard few complaints about various functions and also battery life.
My thread is mainly regarding the battery life, but please also inform me if there are other issues i should be concerned about.
My main usage of the phone EACH Day will be:
1. Playback of 720p (or less) resolution video playback, about 1.5-2 hours.
I will try to set the brightness at a reasonable level, not too high not too low. Listen through Headphones (not the speaker)
2. Music playback, about 30 mins (through headphones)
3. 30-60 mins of games (using speakers)
4. 10 mins talk time over 2G
Note: I will only use 2G network. Wifi sometimes for browsing. Almost no network data usage. No account synchronization will be used at all. So basically in standby all network Data related connectivity will be off.
My question is how long will the phone last in total after a full 100% charge?
Hope to get an answer soon.
This is very hard to answer, because it depends on everyone usage scenarios.
But I can tell you that I have never come to the end of the day so far without at least 10% left. (6:30am - 11pm)

Could you please specify your usages in these hours? Like how many hours of video, music, games, internet etc. Please also mention the data usage and the screen brightness level you use.

Well that's hard as it varies every day... Data usage quite a lot and brightness Auto. All I can say is it will last you a day.

Hey maybe I got the answer for you ! I'm an intensive phone user and my life time is about 2 days with juice defender ultimate but without just a 3 quart day so I have calculated and tested the results. You can if you wan't if you are an average phone user a max of 27 hours and a min of 10 hours .So I hope this will answer your question
aha
Since my last charge I've done a days work. Used Twitter/Facebook/G+ for about an hour in total. Flashed a custom rom. 1hr of music, 2hr of gaming and downloaded just Over 2gb via wireless.
Battery now @ 42%. The screen usually accounts for 60-70% of a days consumption depending on brightness.
Hope this helps

I did not quite understand you.
1.5-2hrs of video playback = 30-40% of battery (almost)
30-60 mins of high end games = 20-40 % of battery.
so it should survive a day with ease with this kind of usage.
I have installed android revolution HD (ics) on my rooted one x. The battery life has increased by like 3 or 4 hours over my stock Rom .
I use WiFi and 3g all the time and play some normal games like temple run, the battery works for 24hours.
:beer::beer:

Hello, for your daily usage, i would just say that you will have to charge it for sure.
Just #1 will take 80% or even more of the battery for sure ...
For intensive use like THD games you won't be able to charge during playing for sure too.
For your use, think about buying a galaxy note, the only one which can handle this "heavy" use, imo.
Hox is in my opinion the best compromise between screen size and confort / lifetime. Note is way too big ... Hox screen is better than S3 for me.
Hox+ is surely better ...
thanks guys.. i guess One X wont be too bad.. if i get like from 8am till 10pm usage i will be quite satisfied.
Well i will keep HOX in my choices. Basically my choice is Motorola Razr M and Xperia V. If i dont get them i will buy this one.
For the early adopters, have you seen any improvement with software updates with respect to the battery life ?
Does anyone know how it compares with a desire S ?
I'm currently using my phone for mail, facebook, call, SMS, taking pictures, internet browsing and spotify (a lot)
No movies or heavy games.
Do you think it would last one day (16-18 hours) with such an usage ?
I charged my phone last night at around 10pm i took it off charge.
I have sent tonns of texts, made very long phone calls probably about 4 hours of calls today, played about and hour of music about 30mins on internet, took a few pics, recorded one video, played 10mins of games and the battery died around 7 30pm. also from 10pm to 1am the phone went from 100 to 86% then went to sleep woke at 8am it was still on 86%.
Battery life is totally user dependent, based on many factors including signal strength, type of data used, what's syncing, brightness and such. Generally I can get a full working day out of my phone and at times I can get it to last the whole night if I've not really used my phone through out the day.
If I think I need the extra life I'll just charge it at my desk whilst at work.

A bit old, but nontheless:
When I navigate with this device the battery slowly looses power. This means that even with the HTC official cables the device uses more than what the cable can give: 0,5 amp!
The device gets warm and, without cooling it via the car fan, it even stops filling the battery because it just gets too hot.
While navigating, I use: Flitsmeister (in background), iGO Primo, network 3g. Brightness is not full, since that heats the device extremely fast.
I sure would like a device that uses less power beneath 0,5 amp and has a larger battery and less consuming screen. (But I don't know any device that has with enough good features like HOX)
Oh and main feature: NO glass that sits on top of the device, meaning it will break as soon as it falls on its face!
htc one x+ was released...with Standard battery, Li-Ion 2100 mAh...any dealer sell this replacement battery????
is may battery GOOD enough ?
