Yellow tint when looking at it straight on - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

I just picked up this phone from a guy through local classifieds and I've noticed that it has a really noticeable yellow tint to it when I look at it straight on.
If I hold it at any angle it looks fine. What could be causing this and is there anything I can do about it?

As far as I heard it's an issue with the oled screens in general. Something about the organic compound or what not. But your not alone a good amount of people get it. Maybe do what the quote below is suggesting.

My E4GT has a bit of a blue tint. Downloaded an app called "Screen Adjuster". It's basically a RGB adjuster just like on your LCD tvs. You can even widget it to have a quick on/off feature from your home page.

Thanks, but that app doesn't help at all. :-(

Take it in to a Sprint store. At worst it will cost you 35$ to get it fixed.
It could be burn in, or a bad oled.

I thought they didn't fix screens anymore. I'll call them in a bit and ask... will report back.

They can't fix a shattered screen. But if its just a problem with the oled screen they might be able to do it, or at least set you up with a replacement. They don't do shattered screens because it can cut the techs.

I'll call them in a few minutes and let you know what I find out.

I just got back from the sprint corporate store and they told me that there was nothing they would do for me.
they told me that every phone does it. That is a complete lie. Even their f****** displays did not do this.
they told me that it does not affect the functionality of the phone so they would not replace it or even work on it.
I can't even really describe how pissed off I am right now

Put out the word to anyone with a working E4GT who only uses it to dev and see if they'll swap it out. Can't hurt to ask.

I just got off the phone with Sprint (*2) and told them what the little prick was saying to me at the store and they put in a work order so I can take it to a different store and most likely get a replacement. I won't be able to go up there until tomorrow so we shall see what happens.

I wound up selling it and going back to the GNex... where I'm suffering with battery life problems.
I have honestly not been satisfied with any Android phone except the EVO and the Nexus One :-(

Manufacturing defect? Weird mark under the screen

I just found a weird stain under the glass, and it's driving me crazy. Anyone else have this issue? See pic.
It can only be seen at a certain angle, but it's there for sure. It looks like an iridescent stain left by a roller or something. I didn't get water in it or anything like that.
I purchased the phone from Virgin corporate store while I was on vacation in Vancouver, but I live in Toronto. My first attempt at calling Virgin was 'take it back to the store you bought it from' even though I told them that's not an option for me. *sigh* Perhaps I should deal with Samsung directly on this one.
Otherwise, a kick ass phone.

Yeah, i also saw some other ones besides mine that have some weird things happening below the screen, like dark spots looking like a fingerprint.
It's weird... and annoying too.
i noticed what i though was a hairline scratch on my screen just above the phone's speaker. visible only under certain light angles. upon closer inspection, it is obviously under the screen. the other day, while i was at the Verizon store, i checked out their display Galaxy Nexus, and sure enough, it had the same defect on exactly the same spot as my phone.
I have this too. Just like the op, below the screen. I have to tilt the phone in a certain way, and light must come from a certain angle to see it. Looks like fingerprints or something. Im just gonna try and ignore it.
Maybe someone at the factory had greasy hands.

Stuck pixel... Opinions?

Alright so I found a stuck white pixel. It's only visible against a black background. And it's like the size of a flake of dust. Super, super tiny but now that I've noticed it I see it eveytime it's over a black background or image.
However, I was lucky enough to get a phone that has zero gap issues, and I've also already put a nice quality screen protector on it.
So my question is... Should I deal with it or exchange for a new One. It really is very tiny. I don't even have anything size wise to compare it to. I think even saying it's the size of a dust flake is too big... Also it's near the upper left corner sort of so it's not like it's in the middle of the screen.
Ps: I tried the stuck pixel fixer in the app store and it didn't do anything.
Opinions?
I'd take it back. I bought an LCD tv that had one pixel stuck as soon as I opened it up and turned it on it was off and boxed back up and exchanged. Imo it probably will be more likely to have more go out, not sure if it's true but I say exchange it.
I'm still debating. I think I'll give the store a call.
good luck finding a perfect electronic device. I know it used to be up to 3 "dead" pixels was considered ok by manufacturers. I think they've eased up though. I'd be worried about the replacement being worse.

since phone is so new u should get lucky and get one someone returned.
but this phone is the first i wouldnt want a refurb considering all the problems with taking it apart
Honestly imperfections happen. And something this minor just deal with it. When it comes down to it though its your call.

I wouldn't get a refurb, I'd get new. I'm friends with the manager of the corporate store, however... I think I'm just going to deal with it. I don't even notice it now unless I'm specifically looking for it against a black background, which is never lol

I think were still within 14 days so could get new
I am just noticing on the back of my phone that when facing down, on the right side it looks like a line running all the way down, kind of hard to explain, it's not a dent otherwise I'd be able to feed it.
hmm, I may go back to the store and check out the ones on the floor and maybe get a new one, but I also don't want to lose root. I am sure we will get it eventually and will be kicking myself in the rear, but.
I guess I may end up with a refurb! lol.
I send them back though until they are up to standards, I've send 3 back and they will keep sending you refurbs until you get one you consider up to par.
One time I got a refurb and the power button was so pushed it I literally couldn't use it, another time the vibration on the phone was so crazy high, like when pressing the soft keys it was cracked up on stock ROM somehow it was insane. the third time I got the phone and there was an issue with a speaker.
I have gone through many refurbs thought my smart phone days and I have to say they actually are *usually* good. The way that the HTC One is put together though scares me for a refurb, though.
Mine has that line too. It's like 1/3 inch thick looking, right? And very faint? And I've seen the same line in LOTS of pictures. I think it's just a manufacturing thing.

Purple tint/noise on camera

Has anyone else noticed the infamous purple noise problem on their Verizon Ones in low light? There's a giant thread about it here in the international variant's section. It gets especially bad when you take a picture in total darkness or cover the lens entirely. If your phone has one of the defective sensors, the whole screen will turn bright purple.
Also curious to see if there's a certain batch of camera sensors behind this. If you have this problem, could you browse to /sys/android_camera/sensor and post the text inside? Mine says "st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-05-03".
Before anyone suggests that this is a software problem, there are a quite a few units that don't exhibit this issue and show perfectly black images in the dark, so I'm more inclined to believe this is a hardware defect.

Wow, that sucks.
I'm considering the same thing, though I'm not facing such an issue. I want to know if this camera problem is widespread to see if it's worth exchanging; it would be awful to go through the whole exchange process and wind up with the exact same problem on the replacement. And it would especially suck to lose your bootloader unlock for nothing...

My dad also has the HTC One from Verizon (got it a week later). His camera exhibited no such issues. I am going to try messing with his again tomorrow.
Its definitely a widespread issue though as you can see on that XDA post. I've also been following that since I got the phone. There is someone who thinks it might be a software issue and can be fixed by flashing libs. He is working on it.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45158495
I am just afraid of returning it and getting another headache such as dead pixel(s), chassis gaps/scratches, or anything else like that. I am trying to determine if I could live with it. I don't take many low light shots, but it will suck when I do.
When did you get your phone? It sucks that I have to decide by tomorrow!
EDIT: My camera pretty much does the same thing as shown in this pic (For others who may not be aware what we are talking about)

I got the phone about a week after release. Not sure that means much though, they seem to be randomly using old leftover parts to build the phones (according to the serial number, mine was built in July).
Can you post a picture of the purple stuff? I've seen other threads on this - in one case it did look like classic low-light issues that plagued certain Dincs, but another guy's pictures seriously did not look like digital noise to me - looked like an oily smear, maybe a manufacturing defect.
st vd6869(1.0) cinesensor 2013-06-20
Mine doesn't have the issue and it was purchased in the release day.
I had this same problem. I went in to verizon and showed the guy and we went through 3 replacements before he swore it was a software issue. Then I showed him that covering up the camera lens on their display model showed a plain black screen, while the replacements were showing that purple/pink tint. Here's an album with a couple of pictures of what it looks like.
https://www.dropbox.com/sh/m93o47ugxapos4v/hB6YN6kw-n/HTC One
My camera does the same.
I took it to the VZW store today but didn't have my ID nor did I bring the box with me.
Planning on going back tomorrow.
They told me they'd replace the phone for me so we'll see what the new one does.
Will report back!
BTW, nice car Frankie1588 if that's yours
Mazda RX-8?
For reference - here's a pair of low light shots, one with night mode on and one without. Definitely worth replacing because this phone sees better in the dark than I do, and that's pretty cool - this scene is nowhere near as bright as the pictures make it look, and night mode gets rid of speckling artifacts entirely.
So just going into the Verizon store, you guys were successful in getting replacements? How hard was it to sell that the phone had an issue?
guess I'll test the camera as soon as fedex drops off the phone tomorrow. I'll just call if its bad and make them overnight me a new one.
so if you take a shot in low light without the flash on, and it comes out fine, your camera is ok?
sorry just trying to see if mine if effed.
I help the lens cover and got purple, but when i shot in dark (under my bed) with and without flash, they came out normal?

I just went into the store today and they took my word for it when I described the problem.
Said they have been having a lot of people come in for the same reason.
Since I used another line's upgrade they said I couldn't swap out in the store.
But because of the device still being under warranty, they're shipping me a new one
And I just have to ship my current one back. I seriously hope this new one doesn't have
the same problem.

I got mine with the Edge program (don't judge me), and they were very easy to deal with in store. I just told them that it's an awesome phone, and the camera wasn't working. I showed them that it wasn't working by just covering the lens with my wallet. It showed that pink/purple tint on the screen. We went through three phones before we found one that didn't have that when covering the lens. I would definitely take yours back because the lens, when not taking in any light, should be completely black.

I got mine via edge to, 5 months after getting the note 2 on my upgrade. I'll either pay it off or trade it in at half paid off.
I think some of y'all might be mistaken on the camera.
You need to take a picture in pitch black room, not just cover the camera with your finger. Mine was able to draw light in through my finger, but when I went into the bathroom with the lights off, I got a solid black picture.
Just like a flashlight shines red through your finger, so to some extent can natural light.

I completely agree about not covering it with your finger, light still gets in. You can definitely find an object to cover up the lens, though. The display model at the Verizon store was black when covered with my wallet, but my phone was showing that tint when covered.

then I would definitely get a replacement. Mine was solid black. Also don't have any gaps along the top, or scrapes, imperfections that I can find.
Only thing I noticed was the white band at the top was not quite flush. Have to really look to notice. I'm considering myself lucky.

[Q] I dropped my One X

Hi, so I dropped my One X on the road and before I noticed it, I stepped on it.. It's the first time my phone is damaged after more than a year of using it. Aside from having scars all over it's white body, nothing much happened to the camera, audio, etc.
The bit that I cannot live with is a small burn line that appears yellow and red/pinkish on the center right edge on the screen, it appears more on white backgrounds i.e. browsers, etc.. It's really annoying, I have no warranty nor insurance, and I have no clue on what it actually is.
Can anyone give me a clue on what exactly is it, how to fix it, and how much would it cost? Thanks.

here you are man there is even the back cover if u want
One X replacement
I think the colouration is due to permanent pressure applied on that part of the screen. Perhaps when you stepped on it you caused some internal component to shift and apply pressure on the screen from inside. I suggest getting a replacement back cover (pretty cheap), open the device, unscrew the motherboard and rescrew see if the pressure point is relieved. Then go ahead and replace the cover and theres a good chance all will be back to normal.
There's a ton of disassembly videos on YouTube. It's pretty easy - I just did it for the first time this week to swap a damaged battery.

[Q] Yellow screen burn at bottom of screen

Guys, over the past few days I have noticed at the foot of the screen in the centre there is a yellow line (approx 1 to 2mm thickness) appearing which looks very much like screen burn.
It can only be seen when a lighter colour is present but it is there no matter what you are looking at.
When watching movies it is horrendous as your eyes are constantly drawn to the yellow thick line.
Question being has anyone else noticed this?

Impossible to see if you do a screen grab. The grab would not show the screen burn.
The only way to do it is to take a photo of the G3's screen and I don't have another camera at hand with me this weekend.

No, it's nothing like a dead pixel.
It's more like a yellow stain that progressively gets darker the longer the screen is left on.
I contacted Clove who would send it back to LG for them to look at.
In the meantime if I change the Home a Touch Buttons to Black it covers up the Yellow stain whenever a screen uses the touch buttons.
It's when you are either looking at photos, watching movies or playing games where you don't have touch buttons displayed that you see it.

I have had this on devices in the past, its certainly a faulty screen.
Yes, I definitely agree on that.
Okay I should return it for repair but I would find it murder to be without the phone.
So far it is limited to the area of the touch buttons and like I mention if I change to black you then don't see it a lot of the time.
I'm seeing if I can live with it..........

Just as a warning, when I have had this on devices in the past it is something that gets worse over time, the yellow area will spread, its probably worthwhile getting it fixed now to avoid having it become a bigger problem in the future.
Have you spoke to clove yet? Surely they might just swap it out rather than force you to get a repair?

Yes I spoke with Clove and was quite surprised they would send it back for repair.
At the time I had had the G3 for 18 days.
As such seeing as being without the phone is going to be a nightmare and it's not spreading or getting worse for the time being, I'm mulling over my options.
Fortunately money is not a problem. If it gets that bad I would rather buy another and set up the new G3 in the presence of the faulty G3 then either give the faulty one away to a member of the family which I do with all of my phones and let them decide what to do....
I have the exact same problem. Found this thread googling for it. It's almost right in the bottom center. Looks yellowish and it's driving me nuts. I'll probably hold off exchanging for a while since I cannot afford to go without a phone and have no way to backup everything until someone unlocks the boot loader.

Well, if it's any help to you all I can tell you is it doesn't appear to get any worse.
Yes it's there and more prominant when it gets hotter but it doesn't appear to be spreading or going darker.
At the moment I am still living with it.
