Does removing Sense 4.0 = Stock ICS? - HTC One X

Hi, I see options for uninstalling sense in some ROMs. If I do so, will I be left with stock ICS? If not, why not and what would I gain by trying to go with something like cyanogenmod?
I am mainly interested in losing Sense b/c I hear that it's a battery hog.
Thank you!

No, as Sense is more than just the launcher. It'll be as close as you go get without using an AOSP-based ROM

Not exactly
It will still have HTC elements in it

Thanks, can you answer what the expected battery life improvement would be in going from a senseless ROM to an AOSP based rom like cyanogenmod? Just roughly...I'm trying extremely hard to explore every avenue possible to like my One X...it's just that the battery life is very poor (maybe it's wrong of me, but I use my one x exactly like I used to use my iphone 4, and there is definitely a big difference). Currently operating under the assumption that these issues are fixable by flashing ROMs. Otherwise, considering the S4 processor USA versions; otherwise, I may have to sit this round of Android out and try again next year.

There will be a difference. Apple only has to get iOS working on 2 devices - Android has to work on hundreds.
It's unlikely an Android-based handset will do the same as your iPhone and have the same battery life - sad as that is
Having said that, my One X goes from 7am-11pm (with light usage) and will still have 50%+ left when I charge it up

iPhone?
Your iPhone had 1 processor core, with a screen lesser by > 1.5 inches. I have stock ROM lasts atleast 1.5 days with 1.2 hour call time and 2 hours of screen time.

Thanks, I will adjust downward my expectations.
Have you guys seen the anandtech review? http://www.anandtech.com/show/5779/htc-one-x-for-att-review/3
You will notice in the review's battery life section that the One X outperforms the iphone 4 and even the 4s, despite the much larger screen (it does have a larger battery than the iphone 4/s) and the 4 cpus. This is what has been solely responsible for my expectations.
I realize that we have the international version, which performs more poorly, but I'm not getting anywhere close to what I assumed that I'd be getting. Somewhere around 2.5 hours of screen time, if used at max brightness, is what I'm getting. I used the iphone 4 at max brightness and I'm certain that I got double the battery life. It seems like my biggest mistake was owning the iphone for two years first. Didn't realize how much I value battery life until I made the switch. I'll still try my best to keep the faith android.

Is your phone getting hot under the camera? If yes, try this :
1. Turn Wifi Off
2. Turn Mobile data/3G off
3. Turn either Wifi On or 3G as you wish.
See if it gets cooler under the camera. It happened with me and this trick did it for me.

Am I the only one

Am I the only one who thinks that Microsoft is doing really well with the platform? They launched last year have had one issue (with the Nodo update) and are already ahead of schedule on there Mango update.
To me honestly my Dell Venue Pro looks better then my brothers android phone it may not have as many features but it has all I look for in a phone. I just don't see why everyone is complaining so much :s?

No, you are not the only one.
I had WP7, then some friends tried to persuade me to pass to Android, i used it for a month until I trow it out of my car window (It was a Nexus One, so exactly the same hardware as LG E900 I was using and I am currently using).
Far too bored from system lockup, too much energy consumption from the OS an applications, Android is just a bunch of buggy software.
Now back to WP7 and breathing again, no need to travel with battery charger, fast and reliable os...
What kind of battery life do you get on wp7? I get around 10 hours while my android phone usually gets 26-30.
For all the strong points on wp7 battery performance is not one

I have to agree with this. My Focus is horrid for BL. I have all syncing set to manual and even deleted all apps that required syncing data except the weather app. My Focus, not being used, will drain the battery in less than 2 days...remember, I said not being used...the screen is always off, the sim is out and the wifi sleeping.
My Androids are much better. Even my HD2 with Android lasts several days with mild usage. My iPhone is unmatched, though. It just lasts and lasts. I can go a week with mild usage and still have 75% battery.
MS needs to focus on the BL.

Totally disagree, I have the 1.3 focus and have no problem getting through a 12 hour work day with moderate to heavy use.
I think comparing Android battery performance to WP isn't a direct comparison since Android runs on a plethora of different hardware with different battery sizes, cpus, gpus, etc, etc... WP has what, less than 10 models currently on the market?
Although that's soon to change.
I do know this for a fact: My colleague had a Samsung Infuse and her battery wouldn't last 8 hours. Returned it for an iphone cause the Mango wasn't even close to RTM at the time.
That's probably because her battery is 1400 mah and mine is 1500 mah. Also her CPU is 1.5 ghz and mine is 1.0 ghz.. After that, then the OS would come in to play.

No, and millions of others including myself think it's doing well too.
But remember, there's a lot of money at stake and people will do/say anything to try to stop their camp from potentially losing any market share.
Be patient. MS has some very big things coming. It's a long term plan, and time will reveal it. And only then will the doubters finally see what's going on.
But the haters, there's nothing that can be said for them except please leave this forum and keep your nonsense to yourselves.
If you are basing your assumption that you are the "only one" off of the forum posts on XDA (or on any forum really), don't.
Its a well known fact that complaints are much louder than praise. But the number of people complaining is minute compared to the many others who are too busy using and enjoying their phones to bother with any forums.
Especially here on XDA, where one of the reasons we're all here is because we see something that could be improved or better, and we gather here as enthusiasts and developers to make those improvements. Its only natural that these improvements are based off of complaints that people make here.
Its not a perfect platform, but then again, no platform is. And for being only 1 year into the platform, its doing quite well both in terms of the app Marketplace, and the general development of the platform.

How do you get that much battery life out of you iPhone? Everyone I know with an iPhone, especially the iPhone 4, can't get through a whole day without looking for a charger at the end of the day. With a battery pack case, they can make it through two days. I'm just wondering.

I'm a mild user. I rarely make phone calls and do minimal things with it. It's my main phone and I keep it with me all the time, but it basically just sits in my belt case and once in a while I'll pull it out and check emails, market apps and do some other things with it.
But if I do make or receive calls, it will drain much more than it does. But there is no exaggeration about the BL I see with it. I can go several days forgetting about it and when I do think about it I figure it might need charging. But I pull it out and look and it's barely moved away from a full charge.
And this is the same type usage I do with my others phones, except my Focus. My Focus just sits at home in its pouch never used. But the battery will drain in less than 2 days.
I wouldn't really consider an idle phone a good benchmark for battery life, though it is the easiest. It is non-standard usage and probably not something they are optimizing around.

The only idle phone I have is my Focus. And all of my Androids and my iPhone are used, but used minimally. For music on my iPhone, I get around 50 hours. The standby time on the iPhone is literal and true. The standby time on the Androids isn't. The standby time on my WP7 phone is the most horrendous I've seen since my Blackberry Pearl Flip.
My surround battery life is great. I don't use it much for talking but i do use it to check my fantasy football scores, constant emails withour exchange server (push mail), comcast home email, yahoo (for fantasy football) and text messaging. I also use the internet frequently off 3G throughout the day and usually have an app update or 2 and in the morning i use the fm radio for my 40 min walk with the dog and mp3's for another 30 min walk after work.. After all this i'm at 30% - 40% battery life. Also my charge time is up to 90% with only about a 45 min charge. Surrounds have 1500m batteries.
Android obvious has superior hardware...they needed it to run their laggy OS.
Samsung infuse with custom rom eaquals 10 -12 hours of battery life moderate usage and no lag. Its overclocked to 1.6 ghz also. I left wp7 2 months ago and feel free all of a sudden. I really was pulling for wp7 for a while but unfortunately its not gonna make it.

Well, I was comparing two similar hardware phones (LG E900 with Nexus One); the have same CPU, RAM, DISPLAY and more or less, battery (50ma minus for the Nexus One).
I make exactly the same use of both phones, since my habits didn't changed in 3 months.
So yes, I will never come back to Android, for battery life, for reliability, for buggy OS, for smoothliness......
I find the two day battery for the completely idle (all radios off) Focus to be a bit surprising. I had mine in a similar situation for a few days and all indications pointed to it lasting around a week. It's definitely short of my old Touch Pro 2's month of full idle, but it's an unrealistic test either way. And we'll see what the new firmware with the official Mango update brings to the table.
I'm a reasonably light phone user in general, and I have no real qualms with the battery life I get on the Focus... at least after setting the screen brightness to low. It's pretty obvious that the screen is going to be a huge power draw when having it on high with a light-coloured display for a few minutes makes the entire device hot. Another strong point is the consistency of the battery meter - my Blackberry could end a day with anywhere from 90% to 40% battery remaining on very similar cross-day usage profiles, while my Focus idles at a very predictable 1.5-2%/hr with 3G, one EAS push account, and The Weather Network's live tile.
For a full wake-to-sleep 18-20h day to rarely consume more than 50% battery is totally reasonable, especially when the device doesn't freeze, crash, lag, or generally spaz out without regular reboots unlike every other mobile I've owned.

What hardware revision do you have, v1.3 or v1.4?
I'm actually surprised at your battery life, MartyLK. My Samsung Omnia 7 (which I assume is the same as the Focus in terms of hardware) easily lasts a day and a half with all radios on, push email/notifications, and light usage (usually web browsing or videos). It seems strange that your Focus would only last 2 days when sitting completely idle.
Yeah my HTC surround has a really small battery (1230mAh) and it lasts almost a full day with moderate usage.
wp7 might not have the best idle-time batterylife. but on moderate use, they last about as long.
and with mango, batterylife while using improved massively. can't wait for mango with actual updated device drivers. can't be long anymore.
omnia 7 here.
but in the end, nothing beats my dumpphone from nokia that i use at work. idle time of two to three weeks.
hope to see wp7 go more into that direction. instead of upping the performance (which is not needed), use the more efficient newer hardware for longer batterylife.
and yes, so far all friends who have a wp7 are very happy with it. except they still don't have mango, and have seen it on mine
I think battery life is a useless topic, especially in Android. People used to flashing custom roms and kernels can never have same battery life on all roms or all the kernels and themes they are flashing.
Besides their are a lot of settings and culprit apps in Android which can eat away your battery if not recognized and managed.
So, battery life largely depends on user habits as well.
Just got my focus today. Have yet to see things in here.

Thinking about purchasing a Gnex

Hey so I am currently using a desire HD rooted running aosp and I love the phone.... the only problem is the battery life ...
I have been thinking about a gnex for a long time .... is struggle to get 12 hours out of this phone without charging through out the day and its killer..
How is the gnex battery life.. are the 5mp pictures still pretty good? And would it be worth getting or should I wait to see the sgs 3 and htc one xl?
Thanks for any input

Gnex is a killer for sure and the 5mp camera is really amazing for 5mp. As for your conserns about battery life you get a full day with about 3-6 hours screen on time depending how you use it with standard battery!
The quality of photos has nothing to do with megapixel.
MP only determines how pixelated your photo will look if you enlarge it and how much it can be enlarged before you start noticing pixels. Of course there's a threshold when smaller mp greatly reduced the quality of photos, but 5 is far away from it.
In short, photos look great.
Battery life is meh, like most smartphones out there.
The newer phones will always have newer technology and better specs, so the wait is never-ending. If you just ask me whether this phone is worth getting now, then the answer is yes, absolutely.

Battery is "meh" on the Verizon LTE Galaxy Nexus. Battery on GSM Galaxy Nexus is fine.
And agreed with technology and specs. Don't beat the hardware race, beat the software race

All the replies have been great and with the GSM version of the Galaxy Nexus, I do agree that photo quality (instant pictures) is good and battery life has been great for me (coming from Sprint EVO 3D-CDMA).
The only other factor not mentioned has been the price. Not sure if you're purchasing the device subsidized from a carrier with a 2 yr contract or purchasing off contract, but there are certain pricing points with the life cycle of phones in addition to personal budget contraints which could factor into the decision.
The Galaxy Nexus seems to be at a decent price now having been released back in December, the *premium* price for a brand new device, at least for the GSM version, has fallen a bit.
Also, the time frame around the new device release dates could factor into the pricing and timing of waiting or purchasing a new device.
There is an old saying, a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, meaning having it now can be better than waiting on the prospects of something in the future.
All factors to take into consideration! As a side note, would be great to see a device with the off contract and on conract/subsidized prices over time to see where the "sweet" spots are.
Hope that helps more to the great feedback!
The thing about battery life on these newer smartphones is that your usage choices will dramatically affect battery life, and the gnex is no exception. With the screen brightness turned down and 4G turned off, I can get 4 hours of screen-on time. Turn the brightness up on this huge screen or use the 4G or get in an area of bad reception or any number of other things, and that number can drop to 2 hours pretty quickly. But since its a Nexus, there are lots of kernels out there that can increase these numbers, again depending on your usage.
As an aside, this thing sleeps very well. It would probably last two days on stand-by if I didn't charge it up every night.
The gsm nexus gets superb idle time on battery, but the screen drains quick. So for me it averages out great. The time my phone sits on my desk between usage basically stays dead flat. So usage of like 20 min hear and there gives me great battery life. 8 hour work day i have 50% left, with about 1.5 hour actual screen time.
Thanks for all the feedback guys ... I really appreciate it!
When I have data on and brightness well below 50% I usually see the battery drop 10-15% or more in 15 minutes.... so I'm sure the gnex would be better..
The only thing that I'm worried about is the camera but I have 14 days to see if I like it...

Well what do you guys think? Are you satisfied by the battery considering the HOX's demanding setup? Mine lasts around ten hours with moderate to heavy use. Which is similar to my last phone, the SGS i9000. I found this quite acceptable.
HTC are a very reputable company, and often listen to their consumers (hence HTCdev). Is this latest move a shy away from that?

Happy here with battery life of One X, battery is even better than it was in SGS2. For me at least. Around ~36h battery time while SGS2 ~30 hours when I was using it.
Gawwd why do people expect something with the resolution of a tv, and the same amount of cores of a high end pc, to not take much battery? I think its a bloody miracle these smartphones last longer than 5 minutes! As I've said before, you wouldn't expect a supercar to be economical?
Plus, the battery is an improvement to my dhd , so that is another miracle, considering the extra horsepower behind the one x

Where's the like button? I really do wonder what people expect. Get a Motorola if you want the battery to last you for a week.
More than happy with the battery life of the handset. Lasts me from when I leave home in the morning till when I get home at night and then some. Beats having to charge my phone during the day like on my DHD.
People need to get used to charging their phone every night, really don't understand people's issues with that. What's the big deal?

Why would they? It's fine.
To all the "glass half empty" whining types. You guys do know these things charge from USBs right. I got a great solution; plug it in when its running low.
Besides, the battery life is staggeringly good if you think about it. Mine lasts 2 days for simple calling and texting here and there and a whole day for quite heavy usage, browsing, YouTube, calls and so on. 18hours total, 4-4.5 hours screen on, 40/50mb data and 1.5 hours of calls yesterday, put it away at 1%, still not dead 2 hours of standby later.
Mine's OK, not great. I really didn't expect it to be. It'll be interesting to see how the S4 One XL does now that it's shipping. If it's about the same (with LTE off) than it's not a Teg3 issue. If it's dramatically better than we know it's not the display alone causing battery challenges.
I think that no update coming anytime soon is acceptable but no update AT ALL?
Im sorry but f*** that! Why can't they focus abit on the battery, some simple things would be to have less CRAP and bloatware, maybe if they could release 2 versions 1. simplified with the sense camera ONLY and rest ICS and the other with the full sense package that is really no necessary.
The most important thing to remember is that this a a PHONE to make calls and for that it works nicely and the battery lasts if you keep the screen off most of the time, but for a phone like this that was made to do more things I think you need to at the very least have a battery or a software symbiosis that can last for 8,9 hours of screen time.
Its Tegra 3 for f*** sake! With the super-dupe-triple-super-important-kill core2dou like nothing-quad-core-and a dedicated 5 companion core THAT IS SUPPOSE TO DELIVER KILLER BATTERY LIFE.
What is the problem?
I think there is simply too much Sense on the phone, too many uneceassy widgets and other crap that run in the background (oh you can flash cusom rom bla bla, you can freeze services with Titanium backup bla bla, but what if I want to use a stock rom?) bull**** I say, wih such and advanced CPU and memory and so on I do not see why you cannot have better battery life.
My Samsung Galaxy S2 can work for up to 3 days (ok it has a AMOLED ok ok but still, touchwhiz seems to not over run ICS) On stock ICS. Why? Because they have less 'painted over ICS functions that almost makes it run 2 OS's at the same time so maybe its no wonder the battery gets chewed up by all the sense applications.
This just my opinion from observing the phone and all the fanzy sense stuff after a week.
I believe this phone could be better in terms of software (without a doubt).
One thing they have to adress is the camera, why cant the image files be bigger than 2.9 megapixels? This is so stupid considering it has an 8 mpx camera... Also the full HD and 720p records in the latest firmware 1.28xx at approximately 24 fps and it should be 29 or 30. My Asus Prime records at a steady 30 fps at 1080p and 720p and its running Tegra 3 too.
They MUST at some point focus on battery life because if you dont have the juice to run all those fanzy apps and UI then why are they there in the first place?
I LOVE the weather graphics but I could live without it too (If I absolutely HAVE to....) the only thing necessary is the camera sense app because its the only thing that makes the phone unique and very fun and nice (but again whats the point without proper battery life?)
I hope HTC continues to work on making this one of the best first quad-core phone.
Another thing I noticed with SetCpu is that the phone is very high frequencies very frequently, if you install it and use the phone for a day you will see the graph scale, it uses 1.4 abut 40% of the time, but why? I never played games during this period or anything.
Im gonna keep my 1X because I love it and I believe in it and in the HTCdevs if they cant just be more positive perhaps
Cheers!

4-4.5 hrs screen on isn't typical usage that the majority are getting though. Closer to 3 hrs.
It's easier to be quick to judge others when your own device defies the norm for the better.
If you were struggling to get 2.5 hrs , I doubt you'd be as chirpy about it all.
Two words that will help battery life without HTC - "custom kernels"
If you need to see the difference they make just ask in one of faux's threads, e.g. in the Sensation dev forum.
did the update improve the batterie life and if so , does the HOX still run as fast or did things low down ?
Pretty much echo the below , i have had an sgs2 and have an xperia s and this phone with its companion core is at least 33% worse on battery than both of these, and the processor is supposed to be more efficient . The display excuse won't wash much as the xperia s display is at least as bright/power hungry if not more .
I would love to see the exchange / return rates on this handset due to it not living up to its hype , let alone the fault rates.
And i am not whining, i upgraded to one, i like it , i will keep it and maybe one day learn to root it and replace the rom, but lets not kid ourselves its just not a finished polished product in terms of software !
thats my 2p, thanks for reading

Im sorry but f*** that! Why can't they focus abit on the battery, some simple things would be to have less CRAP and bloatware, maybe if they could release 2 versions 1. simplified with the sense camera ONLY and rest ICS and the other with the full sense package that is really no necessary.
The most important thing to remember is that this a a PHONE to make calls and for that it works nicely and the battery lasts if you keep the screen off most of the time, but for a phone like this that was made to do more things I think you need to at the very least have a battery or a software symbiosis that can last for 8,9 hours of screen time.
Its Tegrra 3 for f*** sake!
They MUST at some point focus on battery life because if you dont have the juice to run all those fanzy apps and UI then why are they there in the first place?
I hope HTC continues to work on making this one of the best and first quad-core phones.

What's the battery life like?

Spec-wise, this phone seems great, with the glaring exception of the battery's size.
I'm hoping someone with the phone could let me know, ideally as detailed as possible, what the battery life is like. Thanks!

Initial tests mentioned a screen on time of 4h+, which is nothing to write home about.
On another hand, even though we have a "mere" 3k mAh battery & 5.7" screen, the latter is amoled, which should offer considerable savings as compared to LCD.
I'm waiting for my unit to be shipped, will do some tests & share.

This is why it is somewhat tempting to go with the $399 5.5" model and the Snapdragon 625. You lose a bit from the 5.7" SD 820: no AMOLED, smaller sensor in the camera, only 4 GB of RAM, but based on battery tests with other phones with the 625, the life could be better than the 820 model.
Review units in the U.S. are starting to appear, TechnoBuffalo recently received their 5.7" and did a quick preview on it.
FYI. PCMagazine has a review up of the 5.7", SD 820 version. They managed about 7 1/4 hours on their video run-down test. The Axon 7 with the same test ran about 6 hours, Samsung S7 Edge, around 10(!).

They panned the phone though. TechnoBuffalo loved it, but PC Mag said the camera was shoddy and the UI is absurdly intrusive.

CNet liked the regular Zenfone 3 in a recent review. Though they too, thought the Zen UI was way too heavy. Seems to be a problem with some of the imported Android phones lately.
At this point I won't get a Deluxe unless it can be rooted, which I think is likely to happen based on Zenfone 3 progress.
It's the best thing you can atheistically look at. Battery life will get you one day of strong usage. Which combined with USB type-c that's nothing to be bothered by. I'd give the overall phone a solid 8.5 out of 10.
Battery life is terrible.
The same apps I use with no issues on other devices (including other sd820) cause a severe battery drain on the z3d.
My guess is the power management policy in the HAL, framework, or issues with the scheduler on the kernel level.
Initial investigation points to communication apps (Riot, Conversations), which cause a lot of wakelocks (then again, no such issues on other devices).
Once (& if) we have a bootloader unlock, this will be one of the first topics to address in custom kernel builds or custom rom builds.
I go ten hours at work with 2 plus screen time, 30-45 minutes on phone, 3 emails syncing, Facebook, instagram, Snapchat, two phone numbers, and I leave with 50% battery.

I'm in the same boat as mostly everyone else here. I'm heavily on my phone while at work as well (roughly 6 hours of constant use on most days with heavy internet usage as well). I stay at work 2 days in a row every 3 days, and in that time frame, I still go home with 30-40% battery still left on my phone.
If I were still using my note 4, I would have had to put the phone e on the charger twice a day for both of those days.
Plus, with the dual SIM feature, I don't have to carry around a work phone. My boss was more than happy to get me a nano SIM for my pho e when he found out both my work phone and personal phone would be one in the same and easier to contact.
So yeah, with the above stated, for me, the battery life is way better than what I have put up with on the note 4 for the past 2 years.
Battery is great for me. I don't have a SIM yet but use Google hangouts/Voice# and am constantly on my phone browsing and using different apps. I charged it 7 hours ago, it has 3 hours of screen on time so far, and battery is at 57%. It says it has 9 hours left (based on my current rate, I will probably hut around 7 hours of screen on time. That is on High Performance, though also without a mobile network connected. I am constantly connected to and using wifi though and location is on too.)
Plus with QC3, my phone charges from dead to full in an hour. It is crazy fast.
Edit: Correction, I am in Power Saving mode as I guess I clicked into it when prompted last time my battery drained and forgot to switch back. Didn't notice a performance difference though so maybe I'll stick with this mode until I play a game. Next time I recharge, I will put it in High Performance and record my Screen on time then.

Question Pixel 6 Pro 5005 mAh vs. iPhone 13 Pro Max 4352 mAh

I'm trying to decide between these two and and battery life (SOT) will be the deciding factor for me. I've never owned an iPhone or a Pixel before so I'm not sure what to expect with the Pro's battery life while the Max has been getting universal accolades for its SOT. I've always been an android guy (galaxy notes mostly) and don't like apple (variety of reasons) but the new 13 pro max has set the standard when it comes to hardware with the best camera & video capabilities and now battery life so I'm reluctantly considering it.
I understand in some ways it's not fair to compare these two flagships considering their price difference so I don't expect the 6 pro to match the Max toe to toe with and that's ok. Since they both utilize an LTPO display though I guess it all comes down to software utilization when it comes to their SOT. On paper and looking at the battery specs- the 6 pro should wipe the floor with the Pro Max but since I've never owned a google phone I'm not sure how that'll translate in real life.
Past Pixel and future 6 Pro owners- what are your expectations when it comes to battery life/ SOT once you get your 6 Pros? Do you expect to come close to a full 2 days battery life before having to charge it? If anyone has owned/ will own both please feel free to share your your SOT experience and which one you feel is better.
In short will the Pixel 6 Pro match or even exceed the 13 Pro Max's battery life?
Thanks!
Android over IOS for me any day, daughter has iPhone 13 pro ,be carefully some features only available if you buy the larger storage options
Wait till the reviews on monday

Gapps, by far, are the worst offender when it comes to battery life. With a little bit of effort and root, you can tame them to a significant degree. With some determination, you can replace them entirely with something that is more supportive of your freedom (I've *completely* replaced all goog with a self-hosted instance of Nextcloud and I don't install gapps -- not even microG).
But here is the thing about battery life. Its not even reasonable to measure it in ways its usually presented, because what it really comes down to is (a) usage, and (b) network connection. Screen on, but doing nothing, will use a lot less battery than screen on, and running video gamez.
As far as camera and video capabilities go... apple people will praise apple. Look for INDEPENDENT and CRITICAL reviews to get something more honest. I really doubt that they have anything on the P6's. Google's been ahead in photography for years now, and its really burning the fruit company since in the before-time, its the ONLY thing they actually had. Now they don't even have that.

Yes if you get the standard storage the cinematic mode doesn't record in 4k ,there's a couple of other little things like that

Without really giving a crap, I'm going to guess that they are going to claim that its because the flash chips are in RAID-0 so won't be fast enough without the bigger (more chips) option.

I agree with most of what you said. Pixels have undoubtedly been the camera champs maybe equaled by more recent Huawei flagships. However there's no question that iPhones have had the best video quality of any one out there for a while now. This is all here and there and I don't really care that much anymore because the gap isn't that big unless you're an enthusiast or someone zooming or pixel peeping (which I'm not... for the most part }
I also agree with you about apps in general but you can nowadays put them in deep sleep so they barely use any in the background for the most part. I don't use a lot of apps but it's interesting since you bring up a good point as to whether ios does a better job than android when it comes to battery optimization. I'll have to do more research on that.
I think different companies like Motorolla, Realme and others have great battery optimization while the mainstream ones less so. Now Apple seems to have made a leap in this regard too. Gsmarena has a great tool to measure overall battery life and just look at this list where android phones (mostly not found stateside) dominate.
Previous Iphones weren't any good when it came to battery life. Apples forum is flooded with people complaining about battery life which is why they spent a lot of time talking about the improved battery life on the iPhone 13. My last iPhone was the iPhone X and it would only last me 6 hours of medium usage.

You're right but talking strictly flagship they've been incrementally improving since the 11 Pro Max. The 13 Pro Max has taken a drastic step forward even more so where I feel mainstream android in general (like Samsung) have to respond or they're going to lose potentially more people like me.
Anyways I see so far no one is predicting how the 6 pro's battery life will compare to the 13 max Pro.
I'll take a leap and say I think the tensor chip coupled with the LTPO display with google's clean android overlay will match the iphone 13 max's battery life

In this COVID day and age where everyone is staying home mostly- not so much. But once you start going outside more you'll need it. Especially if you're an outdoors person like me.
I'm still nostalgic for the days where i use to carry 1 or 2 extra batteries in my wallet and pop off the back to switch them out which literally took 5 seconds. There was a time during a camping trip back in the day when out in the middle of nowhere, everyone's phone died after the first day. Everyone used mine for the next few days. I got lucky when a certain gorgeous gal walked in my tent in the middle of the night to use it and decided to stay after.... aah those were the days
Sorry... friday afternoon and I just popped open my 4th beer
The iPhone 12 lineup has problems with its quick battery drain as compared to other models. The 13 has improved quite a bit, but still not on pair with the s21u

Wait, you can't be serious? The S21 ultra can't hold a candle to the 13 Pro Max and it's not even close. It might compared to the lesser iPhone 13 models but that's not a fair comparison by any sense of the imagination.
I almost went Iphone 13 pro max this gen. Almost. You know why I didn't? No fingerprint sensor. I'm not about to go back to entering my pin every time I want to open my device and masks make face recognition worthless.
Well, the pixel has a lot to live up to. I think it'll beat the iphone in pics. But battery life? I'm getting 2 hours screen on time every 10 percent battery used. Ridiculously good. I hope the pixel can get near that. Doubt it though

We all missd these days
For me, there will be no difference in battery life if there is an hour or hour and a half increase
I won't be outside for 24 hours and when I go out I don't use the phone for more than 6 hours
