Arc S gets really hot! - Xperia Arc Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Why is it that when ever I play a game or anything like that my phone gets really really hot? I have it over clocked to, min at 1ghz and maximum at like 1.8ghz? Any ideas?
Thanks on advance

minimum at 1Ghz??dude u r killing your phone...i wonder how much battery life you get...well heating is normal when u play games or use 2G/3G data

yeah dude put min to THE VERY MINIMUM.. putting it to 1ghz minimum is like forcing yourself to constant speed jog around the field

Oh, does it still work with that oc?
Typed down from the sky with sexy LT15i

What will I put it too?

Put the minimum to the minimum, 184. And do you need it at 1.8? The arc s runs pretty warm at its standard 1.4

[Q] oxygen rom

hi guys i have oxygen 2.3.1 and get quadrant about 1400 and i saw a person on youtube with oxygen 1.0 that got 3000 almost what kernel does he have?what to do to get scores like that or maybe you huys know some other roms and kernels that i can overclock and get nice linpack, quadrant scores thx
Quadrant is not real world so dont worry about it. It was probably with data2sd which fakes the scores anyway. Dont worry about it.

+1
Those videos on youtube are made using data2sd, and a high class sd-card. The scores look cool, but are not real.

This is mine using MIUI, no data2SD. As people have mentioned though, doesn't really matter, the scores can easily be faked.
Happy with how mine runs.

I agree. What is important is how fast it is for you when you when you actually use it.

[Q] Anyone experiencing this when launching some apps?

This happening to anyone else when opening certain apps? It only happens for a second or two, then returns to the normal graphics. I did a quick search but couldn't find anything.

It only seems to happen when launching some games. Examples include:
Paper Glider Vs Gnomes
Castle Warriors
Burn The City
Do you have force gpu rendering on? If so turn it off.

Tried that, but it happens regardless.
Thanks anyway.
Probably a kernel problem. I would sometimes have weird graphics glitches with Franco's old kernels.
I have this same glitch on franco's latest 13.1 kernel and any kernel I've tried in Captain America. It does this for a few seconds, then loads the game and plays fine. Doesn't bother me anymore, as long as the games still plays properly.
I am stock and it happens on some of my games, I just figured they are not quite up to ics par. There are a lot of developers who say there games are compatible just to get it downloaded when they just don't work all that great. Jenga off the top of my head does that. When it happens I just uninstall them.

[Q] Whats Your A100 & A500 Benchmark Score?

After rooting, unlocking bootloader, flashing Flex http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1589034 my score is 2729. Runs real nice now.
Uploaded with ImageShack.us
Here is mine with flexreapers with his a100 tweaked kernal (so i can control the cpu max feq for power saving)
Only setting out of the ordinary i have enabled is Force GPU rendering (just experimenting with things to see how well it all works0

very nice, what app are u using to tweak the cpu? if you wouldnt mind posting what runs smoothest with no crash. basically a limit threshold. with crossix sd mod i only got up to 2744
I got up to 2830 using set cpu and performance governor with flex rf1. On my usual interactive it got a hair lower, 2790-2800 over 4 runs. Overall I seem to pull about 2750 averaged out. Rf1 isn't any faster then my 3.1 but I was already using the kernel in rf1 ( i think anyways, it was the second kernel he released for 3.1) on it, which did boost the score up about 300 points.
Edit: my bad I used antutu cpu master not set CPU

How do you turn on force GPU? No option like that in the menus. And does it cause any problems?
Its under developer towards the bottom of user interface. None that I've noticed so far, but I've only had it enabled for about 3 hours of use.

anyone thinks jellybean is possible on desire?

What do you think will we see 4.1 on our devices ?
Probably yes, as we saw ics, will come 4.1
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA
Well, altough it should be possible I think we could have a bit of a problem with Jelly. If I'm not mistaken in Jelly CPU works in conjunction with GPU to draw interface and that is how it was possible to lock it at constant 60 fps.
Our phones have noticably slower GPU and CPU than for example Galaxy nexus and I doubt it would be possible to lock it at 60fps. And even if it is possible to achieve that kind of performance it would hog a CPU immensly and drain battery like crazy when in use.
This is only a theory , don't take it for granted.

I think yes,of course it possible we lost some of new possibility of ICS 4.1,but with 1 Ghz of desire CPU , we don't have problem for developing .
I m in doubt just coz for graphics chipset speed in desire
there's already a port out for sgs. i don't see why not on the desire

I believe in Project Butter so... Yes, I believe it can be even faster then ICS lol.
Android code should be optimized :|
It would be great if we get a good jb Version. Looking forward to it

NFS-MW fps drop and a noticeable drop in performance

I recently installed "Need for Speed : Most Wanted" on my Xperia Ion . The first 1-2 mins are fine then the game becomes laggy and so unplayable.
After I close the game the cpu doesn't go higher clock than 810mhz (even while benchmarking) which causes a huge drop in performance and the device becomes a little bit slow.
My phone is not rooted so I can't change governer any idea ?

The board has an auto downlocking feature that turns the clock down to 810 Mhz when it heats too much. Safety vault, so the chip doesn't burn.

Because the system might be less loaded, or less RAM used. Dunno. In JB on S it runs almost without any problem
