Windows Surface Phone.. would you? - Windows Phone 7 General

If MSFT were to enter the WP8 game with Windows Surface Phone or MSFT Surface Phones range would you buy it?
Just a wild wild dream.. because:
a) The launch of surface range has created a buzz on even iForums and DroidForums.
b) The tech guys generally have liked it
c) It has met the hype
d) It looks sexy and we know it will perform much better than we think
e) Windows branding might be the reason for no traction, Surface branding seems to be taken positively
so.. could Windows Phone 8 be the Microsoft Surface Phones? or just Surface Phones?
PS: I love the Surfaces (will get one on the release day!) and whole heartedly hope the new new new iPad doesn't copy Surface and come up with the same and better pad.

Why do we know it will work better than we think?

Probably because WP7 worked alot better than people gave it credit for .

^^ That.

I don't care what they call it. All I'm hoping for tomorrow is the tiles with the ability to change their sizes, and the tiles with real information like the mail tile in Windows 8.

I don't necessarily know if I'd go for the Surface, but I am excited for a Win8 tablet from Nokia.

Anseio you should be excited even for Surface. Even Vetvito is swayed by Surface. If it can please Vetvito, it can please any WP user

Don't get me wrong... I'm thrilled about Surface
I would just prefer a Nokia... I like the aesthetics they design.

I'm definately tempted by the RT version of Surface especially if it gets priced correctly

There is one important difference between "Surface" Devices by Microsoft and "Nexus" Devices by Google. The Nexus devices have the benefit of being updated more regularly and earlier than competitors devices. It is highly unlikely that Microsoft will push update to their devices earlier. For Windows 8 it is a given that those will get Updates the same time everyone else does (second tuesday every month) and WinRT is likely to do it the same way.
And as Microsoft succeeded at least with Mango to push it worldwide around the same time I guess they would not stray from that path with new Windows Phones.
Given the partnership between Microsoft and Nokia I believe they will be relying on Nokia for their lead devices, given that Nokia has an All In Approach to the OS.
So I don't see it happening and if it were it would be a really good question why I would go with the Surface Phone instead of a Nokia (unless they build something that blows a PureView Nokia out of the water).

they gonna charge $600 and $800 for the thing... i think it is a way better deal than an iPad.

I am looking at Samsung Slate Series also. They had some quite "wow" device at the Windows 8 Release Preview Launch.

keynote
watch the keynote from 13:30 to 14:30.
either the hardware is underperforming or the software is still beta.
neat concept. too bad about the bootloader.

Its still Beta, even the consumer preview has some major quirks.
One big issue is gaming and swiping, swipe anywhere near the top of the screen and you'll bring up the multi tasking window, thus ruining your game.

I am looking it in a way what Steve said "Harmony of software with hardware". Can Nokia really know better hardware for MSFT software than MSFT itself? They are only partners after all. Also, am I the only one who thinks Surface devices are going to stand out in the sea of Lumias? However, Nokia do come up with plenty of classy designs from time to time.

http://www.talkandroid.com/102027-galaxy-nexus-owner-beats-windows-phone-in-windows-phone-challenge/
I use both and eash OS has it's strengths and weaknesses. I actually prefer WP to Android except for my dirty little shame: Every Nexus I get turns into a portable torrent box. And since I don't have a computer this is my all in one. And they did a fantastic job with Android Chrome, I must admit.
But this pissing contest **** has got to stop.
Why can't people except that in some areas on different OS's will always be better. Some hardware specs will always be better. That's life. Personally? I root for a three horse race. Each OS, Android, iOS, and WP all pushing and pulling to stay ahead.
The end result? The consumer wins.

I am a Windows developer and I don't like metro stuff at all. Guess we are going to get stuck with it but I absolutely hat eto be forced into any UI...
I LOVE MY GNEX!
Does anyone actually by Windows Phones?
I think Microsoft really dropped the ball. They were one of the few in the mobile smartphone game with their windows mobile platform. It was a true multitasking device that was capable of doing almost anything.
Then the iPhone came out and basically did less then WM phones just made things prettier. Know instead of Microsoft stepping up their game with their age looking UI they just hung back for a while.
Then came Android, which almost feels like it would have been the natural succession for Microsoft except they just waited. So all of us WM phone users started to jump over to Android. Now we are so happy there, why would we want to even try a Windows phone.

Yep. At any given time I tend to have three or so and swap back and forth. Right now? Main EDC is a stock GN with a back up 4s. The 900 is my next and I'm considering a SGS3. If the SGS3 has TW puked onto it, that's out. I sell the 4s and move into the 5. If I find a Titan 2 cheap I may grab one to play with it. (Forgot to mention I'm still looking for a Finny.)
I love Mobiles.
I had an interesting 'battle' with a windows rep today. I beat her hands down loading a webpage. She wasn't very happy.
But she did beat me updating a Facebook status.

Want to buy a window 7 phone(tmobile)

I need help picking, I love the radar 4g and the lumia 710 but they don't support micro SD card!(8g of memory won't work for me). Im thinking about getting the dvp(dell venue pro) but I need some window phone owner input!.
Don't want to purchase an unlock phone due to me not being able to use 3G or 4G.
I will be purchasing this phone second hand due to the fact window 8 phone around the corner just want to spend sometime with a window phone to see how it goes! Thanks

There's a good thread here that is worth reading.
If you decide to get a DVP, make sure you are familiar with the process before changing the micro SD card - there are lots of threads about this topic on the DVP forum. You can expand the capacity to 32GB by replacing the micro SD card.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=799
There are different versions of the DVP for AT&T and T-Mobile. It may not matter as much if you can't use 3G but worth mentioning.
The DVP was my second wp7 device and after they fixed all of the bugs was a major love affair. Had Nokia not brought such outstanding offerings to the table, I'd still be using the DVP, that thing was a beautiful tank.
Look on Craigslist for an HD7...you can upgrade to 32GB and it has the latest software...unless T-Mo comes out with something slick, I'll be rocking this for quite a while!
Will be looking into both device. Anyone else want to put in there two cents?
Sent from my myTouch_4G_Slide using xda premium
My vote goes to the DVP. I get the privilege of using a lot of devices, and after Mango the DVP is still my favourite WP7 device. It's heavy and the camera is pretty mediocre, but it oozes quality and is the only portrait QWERTY slider available. Helps that the keyboard is awesome, too!
Also, they're very cheap these days. Especially the T-Mobile banded ones.
The DVP looks really boss. I didn't get one basically because I was unsure about the presence of the Italian locale and the 256mbs of RAM got me worried. Also, I didn't really rely on Dell's commitment to WP7, so I was unsure about the update pattern. The 710 is a good and reliable phone too, it has Nokia goods on board and the screen is actually ok. The design is a little uninspiring tho. Just personal opinion, my gf actually likes it better than my 800, she finds it too squared 0.o

IMHO they use it only because they are very accustomed to it. Last summer I tried using a 9780 for a few days and coming from a Desire I found it the most painful phone experience I ever had. The interface is unintuitive as hell, you need to hit the keys dozens of times just to do things that can be done in a couple of taps even on the worse Symbian device. The browser is pathetic, everything keeps lagging and freezing 24/7 and there are no decent apps at all. Also, if you lack BIS and BES this phone is as good as a 3310. Lame, horrid experience. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, it's a nightmare. Maybe the newer phones (like the 9900) are better, but forget about having any support: they won't be updated to BBOS10, and probably RIM will manage to fail even before the end of 2012.

The HD7 is a solid phone,I've been rocking it since November. Only problem I have with it is if I'm in my house or bedroom especially when trying to stream something, if I put my hand anywhere near the base my connection drops to 2G. Probably has something to do with the trees around my brick house or the poor antenna in the phone.

Yes, of course, assuming you don't buy one that is SIM-locked to a different carrier for some reason.
Note that if you want lots of hacks, the Venue Pro is not a good choice. As far as I know, we haven't even managed to interop-unlock it yet. The HD7 (and most other gen1 phones, but not the Venue Pro) can use custom ROMs and WP7 Root Tools.

I had a lumia 900 (well, technically still have it) and really liked the speed and fluidity of Windows Mobile. I think it is an excellent OS. I also think that the OP will enjoy having both OS's on hand to tinker with. I have iOS, WM and Android here and they are all fun to play with in their own right. Of course, most everyone here is looking to hack or modify their phone in some way, and for that, Windows phones kinda suck.

the question is should i get Iphone 4s? im also interested in Windows Phone 8 because Microsoft is amazing.
and one more last thing, i will not buy android phone since i had it already but not satisfied
Trust me windows phone is bull****. And Apple is dependable. What you want from phone? I mean if I have a iPhone I can't modify as much as I need because it is close source so I won't go for iPhone. It depend on what you want.

i love to modify but i dont have the courage to take the risk, for example
HARD BRICK
the simplest way to think of mobile devices any more is:
Android is Windows
IOS is normal Apple
Windows Phone is Microsoft trying to copy Apple
Blackberry is...in trouble
While there are more 'open' offerings than Android, they haven't really received enough support yet to be a considered platform for anyone but developers.
Android gives by far the most options in terms of the hardware that runs it...think of it like the PC market
Apple keeps a closed approach on EVERYTHING, but for millions of people...that isn't a problem. The double edged sword is that you get only a handful of proprietary devices that run the software...That nature makes the hardware expensive for what you get...the phones are decently powerful, but you pay a lot more than you would for a similarly spec'd android device...
on the other hand though, you get working software...when you're supposed to...Apple pushes it out annually at a given date, and you get it without waiting...no Apple announces it, then your phone maker wants to f with it...then your carrier wants to f with it...and you wait 8 months for a software update...its scheduled, it happens, it works, and its over...
I don't have a whole lot of experience with windows phone yet, but its building momentum and doesn't seem all that bad...weirdly though, its a very very different business model than their Windows stance.
For me. I'll go with HTC One or if you want a feature packed phone buy the S4. Or simplicity, iPhone 5. Never go with a Windows phone or a BB device.
If you want a phone that won't drop down in the marker after a couple years get an s4 or an hug one
I would never resort to iPhone cause it's closed sourced
And windows phone does not have enough apps
Blackbery 10 is an interesting os but it doesn't have enough apps

Also, yeah, as far as I know, the customization is non existent on WP. I'll stay with a jailbroken iPhone and my soon to be s-off'd One.

You won't get good comparisons about wp8 on here. They hate it as much as the iPhone. I ran the hd7 for about a year and really enjoyed it. It was nice to just use a phone without trying to change every design element just because I could. And zone with zone pass was a much nicer program to deal with than iTunes. You could drag media to your phone via your computer and it would transfer automatically when the phone was idle. I gave it up because it was late to the lte game. At this point I'm so far in with the Android ecosystem it would be tough to switch though the Nokia 1020 is sweet.

I started on WinMo 6.5 with the Dash, Dash 3G and Touch Pro 2 and was a fan. At the time, it was the only choice that included wireless sync (contacts, calendars without plugging in! whoa!) and tethering iirc.
I tried iOS briefly on iPod touches and hated it so got on the Android bandwagon early on. I like Android but it really only works for me if I am rooted and I can heavily customize the device and running something like CM or AOKP. Or at least heavily deSensed/deTouchWiz-ed. A year ago, I tried an HTC 8x and I was surprised that I preferred it to Android. Now, I am heading back to Android because the hardware is so much nicer on something like the HTC One. Heck, even the Samsung Galaxy S4 made me jealous (after I rooted it, lowered the DPI setting and had Xposed clean up the mess of a UI it ships with).
I would love it if my HTC One allowed me to run either Android or WP8 in a dual boot fashion. Knowing me, I'd switch back and forth, probably using WP8 while travelling because it seems to have better power management and Android when I need seemingly basic stuff that WP8 still doesn't support (high speed audio playback for example!!!). I doubt that it'll happen.
If HTC does make more WP devices it'll be because MS is making it a no-lose proposition (they can use the same basic devices and MS pays them a bunch to create variants and pays for the marketing of those variants) and without dual boot support which would just be too much of a nightmare to support officially.
Technically, I am sure it's feasible to do this, even with dual boot (just look at what the HD2 has been made to do -- a WinMo 6.5 device that runs Android, even 4.3, WP7/7.5 and with dual boot support) but it'd be bonkers to support unless they end up with a virtualized setup (probably with WP playing host to Android given MS's expertise with running hypervisors, see e.g. XBox One's virtualization features. Then again, why would MS build that?!).
I'd pay good money to get the flexibility to run either OS on something like the One. WP is a more refined, fluid experience than Android. But it just isn't as feature rich. I'd like the option of running either.
