I currently have a MT4G with tmobile (and I like the phone...)...but I have wanted a WP7 phone since they came out, but I cannot justify spending 300$ on one .... so I was thinking 'should I get an HD2 and put WP7 on it?' but then I felt that it would be buggy and such and I would like a smooth wp7 experience...
so my question is, what options are there for me (I cannot use an upgrade, I am stuck with tmobile so I need one compatible with them [I guess, right?])...?

You are better off staying with a real WP7 device. The HD2, as good a device as it is, can't provide the whole WP7 experience permanently. You'll have to perjure yourself to get a key from MS to use the main features of WP7. And then, after each update...if the updates actually start coming...you'll have to do it all over again and likely MS will nullify the ability to use their keys.
If you start buying apps with a fake WP7, you might lose them later on. Buy an HD7 from T-Mobile or go to AT&T and snag a Focus. You won't regret it once the updates start happening...if ever. WP7 is a super smooth, super clean experience.

You can try other stores besides the retail store to see if their flexiable with the upgrade period. Wirefly, Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart, Radio Shack, Etc.
You could ask for the factory unlock from T-Mobile. Unlock the MT4G, sell it on Craiglist and use the money to buy the HD7.
You can also go on a payment plan with them and give them $15 bucks a month until you have the money to pay for a new phone.
I'm doing that right now with my HD7, but only because I have the sneaking suspicion some new phones are going to come out to blow the current crop out of the water.

Which is exactly why I'm saving money for one of them. These current gen phones will be "Kin'd" before too long and the good hardware will move it.

Sell your MT4g on ebay and buy the HD7 there also. Even a used MT4g is only a little cheaper than a new HD7. A lot of people are willing to trade on craigslist also.
I really don't know why you guys complain that much. In Brazil I just bought a WP7 (unsupported here yet). And I paid R$ 1.400,00. That is something about U$ 850,00.
My iPhone 4 I've paid R$ 1.800,00. Or U$ 1.125,00.
And yes, If i were you, I would buy a WP7 in a blink.

Well you have to understand, there ARE differences in economy so over here we have different options on pricing....doesn't mean that just because it costs wayy more in other locations that we should be buying them like crazy over here.... we have to think about things like that (at least I do, especially since I am not rich [yet ])...
So I am thinking of possibly getting a samsung focus (but the 3g would not work with tmobile...right?)...or the HD7... but like 'likki' said, phones are continuously upgrading so saving 15-20$ extra a month sounds pretty practical because by the time it is saved up I may not even want to get another phone (haha) or there will be better options out there....
Have you ever tried out a HD7? I think it is too big. The Trophy 7 have a perfect size screen. Not too big, nor too small.
Maybe you should try. I wouldn't buy a Samsung because of the update issues (yeah, they may have fixed, still, it was the only one with problem. I wouldn't risk).
Don't worry about the next season of WP7 handsets. Probably they don't need anything beyond our 1 GHz processor. Not for now. And I think this should last for 2 years of software updates until they need to update the hardware too.
I don't know about US 3G network. But, at least here, my Trophy works with every carrier.
And I liked the "yet" hahahah. That's the spirit! Hell yeah!

I got my HTC Surround for 180.00
It looks brand new although it had no box and not original charger. Thing works like a champ. My contract actually is up for renewal in May but i decided not to wait as i could resell it if i did not like it. I'm definately not reselling it. It's awesome!
LG Quantums all over Ebay for 180-200 dollars and they're in my opinion the third best US released device

I want to like HTC's devices but their battery life is just terrible and the Surround feels like a gag phone.
Surround is pretty terrible all around. If you like big screens and you're on T-Mobile, then you have one really good choice and one decent choice.
TBQH, WP7 is so Cloud dependent that I would not want to be stuck on Edge all the time.
I can't even fathom what that experience would be like.
Edge is for Blackberries, Eseries, and Feature phones...
Ok so I have the opportunity to get the dvp or hd7 for the same price...which one should I get ? The dvp doesnt seem to have as much action in the forum ...it has less ram and no htc apps , plus its a lil bulkier....the screen size doesnt bug me becauase they are similar...

The DVP's screen is much better. The Speakers are better. The Camera is worse. It has a Physical keybaord (quite a nice one). It sitll has 512 RAM which is more than good enough. It comes in a 16 GB variant and if you're feeling Giddy you can upgrade the storage becasue it has an accessible SD Card Slot.
It tends to have better performance than the HTC phones, as well. The build quality is noticeably better.
There is no such thing as a BB Bold 9800, BTW (that's the Torch). Which Blackberry are you actually selling, asd is it a T-Mobile Branded BB?
Personally, if I was faced with that choice, I'd get the Dell.

DVP over HD7 any day... When you hold both of them you can just tell which one is better at a glance or with use... better performance, better screen, they actually have the same amount of ram, it's just generally one hell of a step up from the HD7 to the DVP.

(damn, why do all the TMobile WP7 devices have to be the ones at $300 and up...??? it is not that worth it to spend even 200 on a phone to just use edge..-i think)
its a tough decision, considering the prices and then considering the functionality / quality as well.... (although it sucks that the current wp7 devices are not very much up to par with these newer phones....namely the 'no FFC' thing bugs me)
I currently have the HTC Surround, and I have had no complaints with it. I do not understand why everyone is hating it. It has amazing speakers, feels very sturdy, 16 glorious gb's of memory, and has the same exact os as all the others. And some may say that the LCD screen is not as brilliant as the focus's AMOLED screen. But I personally like the screen.
In the end, it is up to your personal preferences.

Went through the article where they compared the new windows phone flagship to our phone's twin brother.
What's everyone's thoughts on WP?
I've always gotten Nokia phones, solid and reliable (Still have my E63, my reliable backup! Smartphone with 5 days battery ). But once symbian died and iOS+Android began dominating I switched to android. I wish Nokia had joined the Android train but they didn't...but I've played with and seen all the stuff about WP, and I think it could be a promising competitor if Nokia and Microsoft play their cards right.
But for now...the t989 and Skyrocket win in my book in terms of performance, utility, and apps. But having used FB and Twitter integration, and seeing how snappy it is with even a single core, and most importantly MS Office...I would have to say in those aspects WP definitely has a leg up on Android and iOS...
It will be interesting to see if in 2 years when my contract expires and it's time for an upgrade weather WP will have matured enough for me to defect...and if Nokia still builds rock-solid phones like it used to...it may not be an argument of if, but if I can even wait for my contract to expire .
Thoughts please, no flames!
Windows phones suck...period.

I've put some major thought into this, so I hope you truly consider my response. I've actually had the opportunity to hold and play with the Lumia 900 unlike mr. Windows phone sucks comment above me.
If you're going to go AT&T no matter what, you can ignore my first con.
Cons for the Lumia 900
1. AT&T!!!
2. As far as I know - Nokia drive is not included. (Not really sure - just from seeing review unit videos on other sites)
3. Zero google support on WP7. This is a huge downer for me - especially since I rely on Google voice for everything, but this also includes maps, google+, docs, etc. Although gmail and google calendar sync fine and there are third party alternatives to some.
4. I own a mac and wp7 phones tend to not play very nice sometimes - even with wp7 connector.
5. It's pretty heavy compared to my t989.
6. WP7 notifications bug me. So does the status bar.
7. Lack of apps (you already know this it seems)
8. Windows phone gets boring after about a month. The smooth animations and transitions only hold your attention for so long. I started with Android, switched to windows, went back to android, back to windows, back to Android to stay unless windows does something amazing.
9. Locked down. Including not being able to send files to a friend (besides pictures)
Pros
1. Sick looking phone. Sleek and gorgeous. Beautiful design.
2. $99
3. WP7.5 is a darn nice phone OS - sleek and smooth. Beautiful animations. Quick links to common tasks. They did a lot of good in this release - but it still has it's quirks.
4. Carl Zeiss 8MP cam. Should make for some beautiful shots.
5. Screen is gorgeous. Bright, vivid, clearblack. Best screen I've ever seen on a WP7 phone and a great size too.
6. Odd, but convenient power button placement
7. The Lumia 900 is what Windows phone should have started with. At the price point and the great hardware, this is a contender phone.
Take it for what it's worth. Had my hands on one about a week ago.

Lol I have said Lumina forever...guess its just my car-centric mind wanting it to be Lumina....whoops.
I'm not saying I would get a WP right now...maybe if the platform gets popular and matures, gets some better features and apps and gets all the kings worked out...I'm hoping it happens.

I just bought a Dell Venue Pro since I been dying to try WP7 and my experiences is that the OS is REALLY GOOD! I haven't gotten a Single crash or Lag or the need to hack for overclocking or getting rid of a crappy skin everything is freaking smooth. I still miss alot of things of my GSII thats taking a break until official ICS update. Windows Phone overall is 80% there but those 20% leave you on a empty stomach wanting for more.

Though Windows Phone OS is very nice and smooth, the utter lack of apps and even greater lack of customization will wear on you quickly. If you're on XDA that tells me that having options matters to you, and with Windows Phone, there are very little options.

Well thats the point, of course right now the skyrocket/989 and many other phones are obviously better...but I'm thinking in a couple of years WP might be a viable player if they play their cards right and the OS matures to support cutting edge hardware and has app development.

Specs can be better but we all know higher specs don't mean anything in the android world. Lets not even mention lack of support! I can bet money that Nokia will keep updating the Nokia 900 for year or Two while AT&T,Samsung and Google might not even support the skyrocket for more than a year. Don't get me wrong I love having high ends specs, but is like a prostitute that tells you she loves you and in two months she stole your money and left you out in the streets that how I feel about android and all this carriers.

This phone might be the exception, rather than the rule, since this is the THE PHONE that Nokia plans on cracking the U.S. market with, so it's probably higher on their priority list. But in my experience, do not expect magical support from Nokia. I just recently (as of February) defected from a Nokia N8 to Android and for the year I owned it, this was their software release schedule:
1) Announce software update
2) Wait 3 months
3) Announce release date
4) Push release date back 3 months
5) Start shipping YOUR EXACT PHONE MODEL with the software update out of the box
6) Wait 1 month
7) Start rolling out software update to customers who already bought the phone in Turkey(insert other relatively small European country here)
8) Wait 3 months
9) Push software update to U.S.
Now I've learned that Samsung isn't much better, I'm just saying that the grass is always greener on the other side. The other OS always seems to get their updates faster
**Side note: all Lumias definitely come with Nokia Maps. Which I miss, since Navigation has routed me through some weird routes before and I've rarely had a bad experience with Nokia Maps.

My 7 year old sister could formulate a more thought out comment.
How can an OS suck? I know so many people that have them and really like the simplicity and easy use of windows phones. Don't be a fanboy.

I get what your saying, Nokia doesn't have the best update reputation with Symbian as a owner of tons of symbian Nokia devices. But lately I can say that nokia has clean up their act especially with windows phone. The skyrocket might be the better spec phone but going down the memory lane Google and Samsung have failed to please their consumers that own a Nexus S/4g,Behold 2,The Original Galaxy S owners the list goes on. The choice goes down to you want a 2011/2012 high end phone or do you want 2 years of updates and support?

Its a discussion...on weather the platform can mature into something competitive. Nobody doubts that our phones are better in many many ways.
Long ago (well...more like 4 or 5 years ago) Symbian and Blackberry were the big dogs, people said the iPhone was just a rich person's phone that would die out because it was so expensive. And Android was a nerd's phone...
Look at where we are now...times change.

LOL Rival? I think you taking this a little too serious. Both devices are Smartphones they both are being sold in stores so I think is safe to compare the two devices. Consumers always compare cars,clothes,computers thats just the way it is.
Windows is great OS for me. For both PC and Phone. I used to own hd2 and quiet impressed with windows 6.5. Being honest i have never use 7+ of windows . I really want to try this phone.

WP7 looks nice. And might appeal to windows users. But from my experience the development for it is horrible. I attend many Microsoft conferences and they're always begging for developers and giving away phones. And when asked if future updates will contain USB support or modem and wifi. Information. They ask "why would anyone.need that?" The average user doesn't care if he's using Linux based software or windows. But what the average user does know is "my friend bought a windows phone,it sucks. It was always freezing and a lack of apps " I actually heard this in a discussion o was having with a girlfriend who was considering a windows phone. I thought the Nokia was an awesome phone and don't believe the freezing part. But if you're looking toward the future... move away from Microsoft. Windows is the OS of the past and they know it

I am very interested in this phone and the $20 Amazon price tag makes it even more exciting but Apollo is (reportedly) just around the corner.
My question is should I wait and get Apollo or go ahead and grab this? I can't think of a good enough reason to wait ATM but I must admit that is mostly due to the fact that I can't think of any must have features Apollo would have that Mango doesn't or that the 900's Hardware wouldn't be able to handle other than screen resolution and I am certainly not waiting 6 months or better for that.

I appreciate your opinion. Doing some basic estimations if the price holds steady on Amazon for the next month or so I can get it for $20 as compared to a standard high end phone at $200 which is a $180 discount.
Whereas if I were to buy it unsubsidized it runs $450 and a lot of of phones run $550+ unsubsidized. Therefore the $20 does seem to be a better deal.
I don't usually play the waiting game but I was just wondering if anyone knew a groundbreaking reason I should hold off.

I think the Lumia 900 is late to the game hardware that's more of a holdover until Microsoft readies Apollo (which hopefully supports larger than 800x480 displays and dual core processors) and Nokia is able to utilize any enhancements Microsoft mandates for newer Apollo devices.
I'm not saying it's a bad product, just not something I'd put down for a two year contract.

Why do I need/want a dual core processor? All videos I have seen showthe Lumia performing compareably with a single core. I agree on the resolution but I'm not holding on to my focus for another 6 months(or more) for a better resolution.
I somewhat agree on the hardware specwise but the software is performing in a manner that doesn't show it as much. I just think my excitement for the 900 is higher than my excitement would be for an Apollo device. If not than I probably would be willing to drop my unsubsidized money on it.

Good point. Its really easy to say, look at all the things I could do. Why not say, look at all the thing I do. The difference between the 2 is huge.
Windows Phone has only 80k apps in the marketplace. The others, hundreds of thousands. With the exception of a few notable ones, why is a weather app found in WP Marketplace not as good as one found in Android Marketplace. I guarentee you I will not scroll through 32k weather apps, to find the perfect one for me. I have my starbucks card, my facebook/twitter, my Cloud Music player, a few games I like, minus Angry Birds space. What else would I use all those apps for?
Dual/Quad core. I've not seen an Android phone, in my hands, have the battery life its expected to. Every Android I've had, plus the Razr, has failed at batterr life, for me. I never tried the MAXX. Is it the cores eating the battery? Or is it something else? Gaurentee you, Microsoft won't release the dual/quad core spec until it solves the battery life issue. Until the phone can be used, normally, for normal purposes, by normal people, non modded, a Dual or Quad core windows phone won't release. Terry Myerson is one of the more realistic GM's at Microsoft. If the phone won't last all day on a charge, then its no good. He doesn't ask if it can be fixed. He says show me it working.
Can you imagine, Angry Birds Space, in Quad Core!!!! Level 1, recharge. Level 2, Recharge.
I'm sure I do not understand the science of the Dual/Quad core. I'm sure there is a logic between all of these 'improvements', and why we need them. Someone on this forum talked about his phone in comparisons to his previous one, as a normal person should(?) think about it....

I plan on buying the white 900 when it comes out later this month. I'm going to buy it outright even though I'm due for an upgrade and save my upgrade for WP8. I'm betting the full price on a WP8 Nokia device will be higher than what the 900 is going for.

I plan on doing something similar. I can get it for 20 on amazon with subsidized pricing so that means it is roughly 180 cheaper than a standard subsidized high end phone.
Comparing that to 450 unsubsidized to 550+ unsubsidized shows you save more money that way. Which also makes more sense because I am by convinced I'll be unequivocally upgrading
to Apollo therefore I don't want to commit my financial plns to it.

Save the money now, get the subsidized price, then decide if new WP8 hardware is worth buying off contract/unlocked. It's pretty simple, pay now or pay later and pay later is always better, especially given lack of info regarding WP8.
$450 is a pretty good price for the phone.
With the ~$400 difference between subsidized and unsubsidized, I guess your question should be "Do I think the difference between subsidized and unsubsidized on the WP8 phone I'll want will be > or < $400?"

The one major downside to that plan, and the reason I won't most likely do it, is because I am preemtively locking myself into upgrading into Windows 8. Which I am nowhere near convinced that I will want to.
The focus is the first handset I have held on to long enough to reach the upgrade point. I usued to upgrade once a year or more. Stating that I could reasonably see the 900 being in that category as well and if it turns out it's not I'll pay then for unsubsidized.
Most of my research says that there is a better chance that the difference will be less than 180 which is what I am looking at here ( price of 900(20) vs the price of most high end devices (200)) Whereas most devices run roughly no more than 600 or so compared to 450 or better unsubsidized.
And furthermore the likelihood of a killer feature coming out in the next year or less is highly unlikely as far as I am concerned.
Can anyone think of a rumored feature that would be that earth shattering?

This is the way I'm leaning. Although I will admit I wish the White I was so looking forward to wasn't gloss. Makes it seem cheaper and more prone to scratches and smudges. But no device has ever been perfect so I suppose this is no different.

Earth shattering? No. But WP8 will bring a number of things up to speed like higher resolution displays, multi-core procs, etc.
The most important things will likely be in the software running on the phone. Various accounts suggest that the tight integration of services into WP7 will be on steroids in WP8. Think along the lines of Skype integrated into the dialer, perhaps even APIs that support direct integration of third party VOIP solutions, like Tango or Google Voice.
If you assume that MSFT will get it together and roll out APIs for integrating third party services into core OS functions on the scale of the Mango API release, watch out. You can really let your imagination go crazy.

And those sound enticing but not world beaters. I feel like the core argument is similar to the current generation video game consoles; meaning that they have more power than developers know what to do with and as such will take a while to come into their own.

All I know is that I went to an att store and played with a 900 today, and I want one bad! I have used android for years now, but wow I love that phone. And the price is great! And there will be 4G in my area next month. Need to dump my sprint contact.

Yeah resolution of course and an ecosystem (not their fault) with apps that can access core OS API. App integration into the OS has come a long way, but will mature further. More customization options couldn't hurt them either.
It'd be nice to have some real multitasking.
Other than that, it's all I can think of at the moment. Not a whole lot of stuff but just lime everything else, not only does it have to be done, it needs to be done right.

And with things like upped resolution will be everything behind it hardware-wise.
One thing I can't get with WP7 is proper integration of outlook when your company is running exchange server 2003, almost a deal breaker for me, but I blame my company as much as I blame M$ for that.
My most important work emails arrive with no preview line or contents. Sucks sometimes.

I pretty much agree with all of that but not being a Machead, none of those middling features are enough to make me foam at the mouth and wait in line to get a Win8 phone. Want but don't need and not want more than my 600 dollars

TBH, the upped resolution (assuming it doesn't sacrifice the smoothness) and proper compatibility with my Exchange server would be enough for me to justify it.
I'm not a Machead either.
But the quality and functionality of apps should improve with WP8.... Curious how well integrated it'll get with Win8.
I can't say right now whether I'll be in line for the first flagship WP8 device. Who knows, there might be another offering at that time that I'd prefer. I'm not affixed to any certain OS family, so my opinion is subject to change as they change and the offerings evolve. I can say, though, I'm glad WP finally got a flagship quality device. I'm addicted to AMOLED but have been F'd in the A enough by Samsung that I wasn't about to buy another one of those.... Then the Lumia 900 came along. Perfect.
I've been with you from the start Microsoft. I owned an early Windows Mobile 2003se device, and I loved it. The software was finicky, it crashed often but it was consistent and it was eons ahead of Palm. I was happy. I held on for as long as I could. But after the introduction of the iPhone, I couldn't hold on any longer. The software was going nowhere, and hardware was inferior and I had to move on. I always my fondness for the platform. Then Windows Phone 7 was introduced. It was new, it was clean, it was beautiful. But I had to hold off. Poor battery life, poor specs, high prices. This all changed with the Lumia 900. It was sleek, beautiful, had an amazing display, and it was right for me. So when my 5 year old iPhone died, I went out and bought one. I was happy. I did everything I asked it to and more. Then I heard the Apollo rumors. I was ecstatic! All WP7.5 devices would get WP8. All kinds of new features and worthwhile apps! I couldn't wait. Then this. Just when I was feeling comfortable with Windows Phone again, this new land that was different that iOS and Android that went against the grain, I found out it was much, much worse. I'm selling my Lumia 900 and buying an iPhone 4S. I'm not the first and I wont be the last. You let us believe everything. The little leaks and hints had our hopes up. I feel cheated, wronged, and above all, i'm leaving the platform for the last time. You've made it so i cant even look at my phone anymore without anger. I have to agree with Johnson on this one. I have been with windows mobile OS's since before they were phones and to tell me my two month old device is unsupported is a slap in the face.
I too plan to look elsewhere. They waited just long enough for the rush to be over on the lumia/HTC and samsungs and no early adopters can't return their device ?!

Damn, I was looking at getting a Lumia 900...guess not :/ But I wouldn't suggest getting a 4S, the new iPhone will be coming out in a few months and you would be kicking yourself for getting a 4S now and then the new one coming out.
Well Microsoft will support device up to 2 years, as I know. So if you don't looking for dual-core CPU, NFC and other some features, than there isn't problem to stay with Nokia Lumia 900 or other first gen devices. So what is point to buy iPhone 4s if new iPhone come out in fall (WP8 devices as well).

True! Worst part is that they had to know when releasing the 900 that there would be no upgrade. That, to me is deliberate lies. I would have still bought a WP device I would have simply waited a little longer or maybe I would have bought the 900 anyways ...knowing in advance would've been the right thing to do. I now expect Nokia to make this up to us 900 owners.
Honestly, how can one expect Nokia to do anything. They were poorly managed for too many years, then latched on to WP. At launch of their flagship 900 on a flagship carrier (ATT), the device was defective. The $100 rebate was welcomed by early adopters, but they burned through even more cash. In the background, MS is drumming up the app count. Nokia is hanging on for their lives -- firing another 10,000 last week. Stock is down to $2.50 a share. Nokia's major announcement on 6/18? A symbian device.
As for the token of appreciation -- a windows 8 start screen??? You gotta be kidding me. No mention of integrating Skype into the OS? No background operation of skype?
The lumia 900 is a beautiful device. Like others, have been with wm since the pocket loox 600... just windows mobile. MS is putting together a competitive and compelling package, but threw early supporters of WP7 under the bus of MS progress and Nokia survival.
Short of a fully functioning skype client, IE10, camera fix, and restoration of the network settings app, i too will be shopping for new hardware at the end of this year and for the first time, it may not be running on windows.

I'm with you bud... I've been using Microsoft's phone's since the first "Red E" development phone that ran Windows Smartphone 2002 and everything in between till now...
This is un-acceptable. I'm pissed...
I know developers who are pissed too, they've spent forever on some really cool "BIG" projects, 50% on the way to having finished products... And now they have no idea where they sit as far as development goes, etc...

well, I'll just look at the bright side,,, there are some good apps coming for the Lumia on Friday, is a beautiful device, so I will keep it until WP8 devices come into market,,, there's always craigslist, so I will probably get around $180.00 for it by that time, minus let say $500.00 on a craigslist WP8 device I will end up paying $320.00 which is not bad for being out of contract... But selling the Lumia now to get an iPhone is ridiculousness.
Im pretty sure WP7 apps running on WP8 will be more of a compatibility sort of thing... And with the changes who knows when they might dump that ability and require an entire re write...

Providers may offer that in the US. But it's not like that around the world...
No WP8, I too find it irratating, it makes me mad... considered even crying about it.. still thinking about it, I might have some time after 2:30 today. Would it make me switch to another platform?????? Why? Do you really think Apple is any different? Which phones does Siri work on? Across the board on all iPhones... um no.. is it some hardware issue?? Mic on a iPhone 3G not strong enough? Whatever the reason is. I am Quiet happy with mine
The Sales Guy who sold me the phone just cut my normal sim into a micosim and I am using that with no problem
Things I like :
1) Battery life in par with my SGS2 ( 13-19 hours depending on usage)
2) Nokia apps the best
3) I keep downloading more apps on my lumia 900 than I did on my HTC HD7
4) The screen is awesome in daylight ( even beating my SGS2 screen)
5) Camera setting tweaks can really give you awesome photos.
6) I really can't be bothered with us not getting WP8 as the phone does all that I need and I will buy the second generation wp8 as I am sure the first generation will have its on bug problems.
Do enjoy your Lumia its the best Wp7 out there...

I'm happy with it as long as Nokia continue to sort out the niggles and bring out more new apps.
It works well at making and holding calls, the screen is excellent in sunlight, the camera seems good at taking pics outdoors, the battery is lasting me a good two days, and the satnav seems to work fine.
I don't care that much that it won't get WP8 as I see that as a different operating system. It would be the same as Microsoft saying that my current PC wouldn't be able to run Windows 8. It wouldn't worry me, I'd just continue with Windows 7 until I decide to upgrade my PC.

much heavier (5.7oz) than my samsung galaxy s2 with screen protector film (4.8oz)
windows OS is a real pain compared to my previous iPhone 3GS and Android, and the desktop / home screen is crazy ... black? Come on ... no photo / wallpaper? And that broad black strip on the right .. really? Wasted desktop space ... they have this massive screen and they choose to a) waste it on what look like melamine floor tiles and b) take even more space with a big fat black strip? Ugly. Plus, I get to choose exactly the colours that Microsoft want me to choose on my own desktop menu?
I have to PAY for Angry Birds?? Really?? Not on the iPhone or Android
and my biggest gripe ... Almost every useful app says this: "If you want to use me, you have to OK Microsoft and its partners getting yur WPS and GPS and other private information ... OK?" which makes me click "not OK, no" and which causes me to not be able to use maps etc .. even Sound Hound.
This phone is terrible. I LOVE (still) my other older Nikias ... tiny, powerful, reliable, robust, my 6301(b) even has hrdware wifi clling (UMA) ... AMAZING phones. Stereo FM radio etc etc. What the hec were Nokia thinking with this phone and what is up with Microsoft's OS??? It is generations behind.
I really wanted to love this phone. And as an ex-MSFTie, I really wanted to love MS OS. I have, after all, owned and loved other WinMo phones in the past. Eww... no thanks.

A phone is designed to be used, not looked at. Take it outside into strong sunlight and you will see the advantage of the large tiles on a black background.

and my biggest gripe ... Almost every useful app says this: "If you want to use me, you have to OK Micrisift and its partners getting yur WPS and GPS and other private information ... OK?" which makes me click "not OK, no" and which causes me to not be able to use maps etc .. even Sound Hound.

How is this different to Google getting the same info about you? These days I actually trust Microsoft more than I trust Google, who seem to be becoming one of the most evil corporations around.
MS were able to keep a few folks happy but pissed crapload others. Handset makers were "left off the bus" with Nokia got the heaviest blow due to so much hype before L900 launch. Feel free to defend WP7 and Lumia 900. The phone supposedly started @ $100, went free due to a software bug, then back to $100 for like 2-3 weeks, then $50 (amazon) pre 6/20, and after TWO months from launch, FREE!
Feel free to defend MS. People have already left, however. Well I expect to be asked "why are you still here?" Allow me to explain that I once a long-time MS follower because I said no to apple fanboism and android pre-duo core era was crap. Now I can't even find a clue to back WP. I'm pissed, bitter, and frustrated those are my lingering feelings toward MS mobile division. I can't move on until I finally unload the last of these crappy feelings (wish they were as easy as unloading 3x L900 ).
L900 is a feature phone. Software wise: checked, hardware wise: checked.
My dad is thinking of getting me this for my bday, does this phone take micro SD cards? I'm not sure if I wanna switch + the windows market is nowhere near as good as the android/apple app market.

No SD card, and battery is not removable.

Sorry, not meaning to be offensive, just posting my opinion (we all have them and I have used a number of different phones. My point was that I really was trying to like the phone because of my MS and Nokia history
I am starting to agree with you about Google. But I don't relish giving YET ANOTHER giant, unfettered access to my sensitive information. Google does not have access to information I give SoundHound and other apps, and those apps do not have or ask access to my location and sensitive data. In fact I have made it a point (apart from Google who have access to my mail and everything else; and my Bank etc) to refuse to instal apps that need my personal or sensitive info.
Simply-put, given the choices of Google and Microsoft, I choose Google, because their invasion of my privacy, at least, gives me inreturn, a VERY SIGNIFICANT benefit. But the MS / Nokia thing ... not even close.
I just switched from a Samsung Focus to a Lumia 900 the other day. It does load apps noticeably faster than my previous phone. Touchscreen response seems a bit slower though.

I have a lot of problems with the Lumia 900, but your complaints are very superficial and, in my opinion, totally invalid. You even say that you were given the device by an employer, and it's obvious you would not have bought the Lumia 900 or any WP7.x device if you had the choice.
You complain about the styling: this is a subjective area and the "sharp corners" and "heaviness" are definitely some of the Lumia 900's strengths. I've used an Epic 4G Touch (Sprint's GSII) and it is very light - in a way that feels very cheap. The Lumia 900 is "much heavier" according to you, yet it's less than an ounce difference. The relative heaviness also adds a feeling of durability definitely not found in the featherweight GSII. Still, this is a subjective area.
Next, you complain about Windows Phone in general. Your biggest gripe is the intro screen to downloaded apps? You make a point to mention that you have to pay for Angry Birds? Makes me think you've spent very little time with this device. You obviously are not a fan of Metro, and singling this out as a flaw with the Lumia 900 are not appropriate.
You say you "really wanted to love this phone." And yet you dislike the styling, the weight, and the OS. What made you think you'd ever love this phone if you hate everything about it? Everything you complain about could be plainly deduced by just looking at a picture of this device. Did you not see this device at all before it was given to you? I'm not sure how you could've "wanted to love this phone."
After nearly three months, still enjoying my (original) beautifully different Lumia 900.

I really like my Lumia 900, I wanted one because of the bigger screen than the Lumia 800 and Front Camera, I preferred it to the HTC Titan and Titan 2 both of which I have owned & used, I was already very familiar with WP7 as owned a HD7 from day one so I knew exactly what to expect but got a few nice surprises with the Nokia software freebies, Design wise it is in a league of its own although not quite as cute as the Lumia 800, Nothing compares to it, I don't find it heavy at all, Battery life is good and performance wise it is very quick, It does everything I want and more, I am not fussed about it not getting a WP8 update and will be happy with the new home screen in WP7.8 along with whatever else they decide to throw in as long as it doesn't impair performance.
I like mine.
The first one I had was returned at about the 30 day mark when the capacitive buttons stopped working completely, but aside from that, it's been great.
I was expecting people to be complaining in here about the camera, lack of WP8 in the future, and the now-defunct data connection problem. Not sharp corners and unbearable heft @5.7oz. Geez.
Lack of home screen customization doesn't have to do with the Lumia 900 specifically; that's a well known, well publicized limitation of the OS itself and has been for eons. One would really assume that by now people would be talking about what they like and dislike about the phone as opposed to what they like and dislike about WP in threads specific to the phone like this. If people want to complain about WP7.X, there is a subforum for that.
My battery life has been great once I realized the MicroCell data connection was a huge drainer, calls are never dropped, I haven't had any forced restarts, and the hardware runs WP7.5 really quickly and smoothly.
Would you recommend this to someone coming from Android?
I'm on a budget and want something that's quick, expandable, and entertaining to use. The only thing that bothers me is the non HD screen, is it very noticeable?

Yeah, I never watched/loaded videos on my phone, I don't understand it. As long as I have YouTube, Pandora, and space for a few hundred songs I'm set lol. Btw, how's the DAC (audio) quality when listening through headphones? Are there equalizers available on the app store, market or whatever it is?
I prefer Lumia 900 over my iPhone 4S and Galaxy S2. Call quality and signal reception on this phone can't be beat. Believe or not Tango update actually has better management of LTE for me. I always have signal now, everywhere I go. Before Tango update, it was switching to 4G everytime I had one bar on LTE in places with bad reception even though LTE is much faster than 4G and has stronger signal; and 4G would crap out with no signal. Tango fixed that problem for me. My next phone is definitely a Nokia WP8. I don't see myself going back to Android. I would only switch to iPhone. Android isn't reliable enough for me and there are apps compatibility problems, especially in games. The thing I don't like about this phone is high background noise through headphone. I still have a Cowon J3 for music.
I absolutely love my Nokia Lumina 900. Everything is so perfect. Runs smooth my cyan 900 looks so cute and different. People at my work are always asking about my phone and want to play with my phone. Its the best WP7 I've had. I had an LG Incite and I loved that phone. Had a HTC HD7S and I loved that phone to death too! iOS and Android look so ugly. (and cheap because crappy tablets that sell at 50 dollars have android) was going to get the phone with beats audio but the biggest turn off was it had android. aside from not getting Windows Phone 8, I'm fine with that. Just waiting on a custom ROM with all languages like how I had for my HD7S using DeepShining.
I'm happpy with my Lumia 900. It's a great phone.

Overall I'd give the phone a 8.0/10. The minuses are unfortunate but don't occur in every phone, I was just unlucky I suppose.
