As suggested from the title, this app allows you to use your phone as a hotspot access point free of charge; you don't even have to be rooted!
You can get the app down below
Play Store Link:

If link doesn't work, then go here
Foxfi.com/bin
Status
Verizon - Works fine
AT&T - Works fine
T-Mobile - Not working (from what I've seen)

didn't work on my lg p500
because it turns off the 3g connection when I enable tethering.
but I think it's a ROM issue.
I have 2.2.1 installed on my lg p500, and I'd like to share my internet connection with a samsung galaxy tab (honeycomb 3.2).
With an other application (Wifi Theter) I can act as an hotspot, as I want, but my galaxy tab can't see the wifi network available. other devices can, I can connect from my notebook, as an example.
So, I assume the problem is on the galaxy tab.
galaxy tab can connect to other wireless networks, but can "see" the one provided by wifi theter.
Anyone knows I to solve this?
thanks in advance for any help
Joao

anyone get this to work? it worked fine on my epic 4g touch. i've tried rebooting afterwards, all machines, upgraded to the latest version and still no luck.

The reason FoxFi shuts off your 3g connection is because it turns on the wifi radio to use for hotspot access around the security in your phone.
As far as Wifi Tether goes, are you broadcasting in adhoc mode?

I just gave this app a go. It looks like everything setup just fine on the phone but when I try to connect with my windows 7 laptop I get a "cannot connect" error. I think it's trying to use an ad hoc connection type. I don't think ICS supports ad hoc tethering. Could someone with a gingerbread phone could give this a try? If it works on a gingerbread phone then it's probably an ad hoc issue.

Thanks for pointer.
It is foxfi.com/bin
I just made it work with GS3 via bluetooth, hotspot mode did not work for some reason.
Will do for VPN for now, since stock GC3 wont work with IPSEC alone...

Yes I deleted su from system using rom toolbox. Reboot. Cleared data from twc app, also tried uninstalling but still get the not supported by root users message.
Not sure what else to try. I don't know if a kernel would help..?

not working for me either. cm9 beta 2. i restored a nandroid of it just to try this out.
i installed twc live tv app, used es file explorer to navigate to /system/app, deleted superuser, rebooted, cleared twc data, logged in, i get the "not supported on rooted devices" message again.

so is it just me or is it worthless that you have to be connected to a time warner ip addy to use this. meaning i can watch it at home, or at my family with cables house, but at work (we have dish there) i cant use it because time warner doesnt provide the internet there? or in the car on 3g or 4g where the kids might want to watch it?
i already have cable, a tv, and a dvr at home i am just blown away that they will basically only let you use it at home.
The real fix is getting super su from chainfire on the Market, installing its su then deleting the normal superuser.
--------------------------------------
Awesome thanks austin... and yeah I see your reasoning... but it sucks only having two tv's in the house, so I'm the odd man out so its nice to watch some hd tv on my phone if I don't wanna watch what's playing on the other two.

Got mine working. Had to delete the test-keys (can't remember line exactly) from the build.prop. Also, have it on non-home wifi with the SSH Tunnel app to my home router.
Under normal operations, this cannot be used on any wifi but your own. Your MyServices has to contain the modem providing the IP, in order to get it to work.
Could you please post a site that shows how to do this? I looked it up, but am not sure exactly what to do....
Thanks in advance!

look at your router's documentation to setup a VPN; that will make it possible to have a TWC ip (because your router is connected to them) anywhere you are.
you would then need a vpn client for your phone, CM9/ICS has it, if I recall. There are some on the market as well.

Wifi Tether Fully Working COnfirmed!

NOTE: IF YOU STILL GETTING THE MSG ABOUT THE TMOBILE OFFER OF 14.99 THE SOLUTION IS:

SOLUTION # 2 :GO TO WWW.APPLE.COM AND DOWNLOAD SAFARI BROWSER SIMPLE AND USE IT! THATS IT!!
ALSO IF YOU DONT LIKE SAFARI BROWSER YOU CAN ALWAYS DOWNLOAD FIREFOX BROWSER!!
1ST - ROOT YOUR PHONE!!!!!!!
2ND-DOWNLOAD THIS APK FROM THE MARKET OR FROM HERE http://code.google.com/p/android-wifi-tether/ VERSION 3.1 BETA14
3RD-INSTALL IT ON YOUR PHONE
4TH- OPEN THE APP HIT MENU-SETTINGS- CHANGE DEVICE PROFILE AND SET YOUR PHONE TO SAMSUNG GALAXY NEXUS (CDMA/LTE). NOW GO BACK AND START TETHERING!!!! THATS IT SIMPLE WORKS GREAT AND FAST!! CONECTS ANY DEVICE FAST!!

Uhh not sure what you mean
Wifi tether is when your on a mobile data connection (4g/Edge) and you don't have Wifi...you turn it on and it acts as a router or hotspot and lets your laptop connect to it.
If your in an area with Wifi that you can connect to you don't need to use the app. The apps pretty much only for when your in a location w/o wifi.
Thanks man it works great, I was getting errors at first but after switching to the galaxy nexus gsm profile everything was all good

Tether on Jelly Bean

Ok So i'm running the New Jelly Bean Update and I am Rooted. I have noticed this is very buggy but it works. I don't know if other methods work this is the one i used. There seems to be no rhyme or reason to this but if you download WiFi Hotspot / WiFi Tether from the market, i believe its INNODROAPPS, then open it and click Tether, then Click USB Tether. It will say invaild user name if you keep turning this one and off randomly eventually it will still be checked and you will have your 3g still. Sometimes i can do it in the first try something it takes like 50 but at least its a tether option for now. Unless someone knows a better way, would love to hear it.

Is anybody able to connect with Clockworkmod tether
I used clockwork tether before but it's been a while.
After the JB update I updated the Tether app (had to DL clock clockworkmod because gogle play says our carrier does not support).
I can connect and use clockworkmod tether as long as my phone has WiFi enabled. However, when I disable the WiFi and try to connect using sprints network, it does not connect and I see the PC driver (Linux) opening and closing the connection continuously.
It seems like Sprint has figure out how to stop this?
I'm in the Orange County Ca, area.
Anybody here able to use cwm tether on the sprint network?
BTW: EasyTether Still works and can still get it from google play but I guess that's because Sprint can detect this one...
Update: Nevermind, it's now seems to have started working. Don't know what was going on but I've never had any trouble with this app before.
Now, If I just figure out how to get my premium license back...

If you do a google search for clockworkmod tether on the web (computer) you will get the google play page amoung the items.
Go to the Google Play page then scroll down a little to the description and click MORE.
In the full description there are links to download the app from clockwork and the drivers for Windoz, Linux and Mac.
I don't know about OSX but for linux, you will need a compiler on the system.

It is not just modding an app. There are dozens of network and registration checks scattered throughout framework.jar and framework2.jar and they are very well hidden. This is the same reason the guy on the Droid forums never got the Verizon NFL app broken the second year...too many reg checks throughout the ROMs. Either keep an ICS nandroid backup or a CM10 backup for when you need to tether.

Hotspot hack or tethering.?

well why would it work on mine though? i'm running your firmware on my device. with all the system sprint apps removed. i don't see why it wouldn't work? so if it were checking on sprint servers shouldn't it stop me as well? has anyone tried removing all the sprint apps?

there is a lot of things that Sprint servers check that only work if you are using sprints data connection. sprint tv for example doesn't work in Wifi even if you are with Sprint because it checks with Sprint thought it's network and not through the internet

So what happens when you remove all Sprint apps and try tethering?
Just trying to help you all out. I'll test it out on the Sprint network today.
Sprint tv does not work with boost mobile as well..

Are they all 4.2 roms? I've read that 4.2 android has problems with wifi just like you describe. Do some googling for that.
Edit: I mean 4.1.2 roms are where I've seen the issue discussed. Check out the note 7105 forums.

I've been using the 4.1.2 ROMs that's been posted like jelly beer and notorious ROM and the international ROMs for the note 2 but every time I flash those using twrp I always have a hard time catching WiFi.....it justs sits at obtaining IP address and then goes to poor network error......any help?

My wifi issue is that every time that i restart the phone the wifi doesn't reconnect automatically. Very irritating.
Yeah mine would rarely connect ...idk what it is or whats going on......

First get rid of that smart AT&T wi-fi crap that is loaded...then load up Jelly Thunder Blackout...
No wi-fi issue with mine at all..

there's no wifi issue on my Rom. I use it everyday just fine, both 2.4 & 5 bands

I had some issues like that. I configured my home router to assign a static ip address to my note 2. Then I went to the network settings on the phone and changed it from dhcp to static and put in the other info required. Now it connects instantly.

sorry, no. I gather you want to know either way.
I used NOTEorious for 3-4 days, absolutely 0 issues connecting to WiFi at home. I'm using a Ubiquiti Power AP N
It also worked with my MikroTik RB751G-2HnD
DHCP, no static...
Albeit it's only been a week since I've had this phone. My current ROM is also working fine. I've been using Perseus kernel since I got it. I have not used any other kernels, including stock. I used Perseus or Siyah on my S3, so I continue to use the kernel I preferred on my last phone...
Well its just that when I turn off and on my WiFi then it gets stuck at obtaining IP address and then doesn't automatically connect like it typically should

Does it happen on other routers/access points too? Or just at home? Sorry for the delayed response.

At least it's consistent.. Hmm, what kernel(s) have you been using?
if you're doing full wipes and what not it'd be odd if just the dhcp daemon of the system was corrupt across multiple roms.....but i could be wrong, i'm no expert lol
im using the PK29 kernel

Apparently there are issues with 29, as he updated the WiFi driver. He reverted the driver update on 29.1. If you are still on 29 I'd recommend updating. Hmm...

Static ip won't help, yes you can connect to wifi, but cannot get connection to internet. This is a bug of android, and ITs in Princeton univ. had some investigation. 4.2 should have fixed it

Mine must have been a different issue. When I went to static ip I was able to get to the internet very quickly.

Looks like a good place to ask....where the hell is wifi scan interval set at on Note 2?? I looked in my build.prop where it normally is but didn't see it. Its usually set low (around 20) by stock and I always up that to 150-180 so I am not constantly scanning for other Wi-Fi when I am at home or locked on a good network.
